Coming up this fall
To recognize the 100th anniversary of WWI and the 75th anniversary of WWII, the Museum, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29 and the Women’s Auxiliary, will commemorate those who went to war. In an exhibit, we will relate the stories of those who were most affected by the war years. Whether a soldier, a medic, a member of a flight crew or one of countless support staff, each one has a story that should be heard. Also important are the stories of those left behind… sweet-hearts, wives and children, ageing parents and younger siblings. It was left to them to plant and harvest crops, enter the workforce and maintain necessary services. We have been busy collecting stories, adding photos and tying them into events happening overseas. If your family has a story that should be included, it’s not too late to bring it into the museum. Call Sherry at 2747891 for more information. Opening reception will be held Thurs Sept 18th, a wine & cheese event that will be open to the public.
In conjunction with the Museum’s fall exhibit, We Remember Them, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29 and the Women’s Auxiliary are holding
a writing contest for children, ages 9-17. There are prizes in three age categories. Posters and flyers been distributed through the schools and the community. For additional information or contest rules, contact Sherry at the museum. All entries will be posted at the museum as part of the fall exhibit. Winners will have the opportunity of reading their piece at Remembrance Day events. Contest deadline is October 1st.

Coming in September
Soldiers of Song –
Canada’s “Dumbells”
Are coming to the Townshend Theatre on Wednesday September 10th. The original Dumbells were born amidst the muck and mire of WWI trenches, and were designed to boost the morale of the Canadian troops. Following the war, the Dumbells continued to play to sold-out audiences across Canada. Today there is a renewed interest in this iconic group of entertainers and their distinctly Canadian approach:
Irreverent, Socially Aware, Sacrilegious, Sentimental and intensely Canadian! Sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 29, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Fort Frances Museum in conjunction with this fall’s exhibit, this event is not to be missed. Adult tickets are $20. Students, veterans and their spouses pay $15. There are a limited number, so buy yours today by calling the Legion 274-0129 or the museum 274-7891.
The Museum and Heritage Sites remain open daily through September from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission fees apply. Off-season hours begin Oct 1st; Heritage Sites close for the winter and museum returns to a five-day week schedule: Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is by donation.

Pool Policy Children should be accompanied by a participating individual 16 years of age or older to a maximum of 2 children. Unaccompanied children must be 7 years of age or older, and meet and height requirement (4ft) or be able to swim 2 widths of the pool. Why do children under 7 need to be accompanied by an adult? This policy is for the safety of the children and was a recommendation from the Park and Recreation of Ontario. How will the facility check ages? The ages will be checked at the desk and identification will be asked for. Photocopies will be accepted. How will the facility check height? There will be a mark at the front of the desk that will indicate the height restriction. If the children are 7 years of age and do not meet the height requirement, what will happen? They will be tested in the pool but if unable to swim the two widths, they will be asked to leave. Will an exception be made? There will be no exception made for any reason or level of swimming. Does participating individual need to be in the water? The participating individual 16 years of age or older must be in the water with the children. How many children can each participating supervisor bring? Each supervisor may bring only 2 children into the water.
