Our pristine wilderness lakes and rivers make you feel that you have stepped ashore as the first explorer. Our waters, filtered by hundreds of square miles of bullrushes, provide a safe and fun place to swim, fish, and boat. Our majestic coniferous forests are wilderness parks filled with amazing wildlife. Our winters offer snowmobiling along miles of groomed trails, ice fishing, hockey tournaments, and curling bonspiels. Cross-country ski trails provide a challenge for both novice and competent skiers. Our summers offer many exciting outdoor activities. Golf at one of our award-winning courses or feel the “heat” of our weekly stock car races. Walk our fabulous waterfront, or enjoy social games of slo-pitch and soccer. the pow-wow A pow-wow (also powwow or pow wow or pau wau) is a gathering of North America’s Native people. The word derives from the Narragansett word powwaw, meaning “spiritual leader”.

A modern pow-wow is a specific type of event where both Native American and non-Native American people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honour Aboriginal culture. Pow-wows vary in length from one day sessions of five to six hours to three days; however, major pow-wows called for a special occasion can be up to one week long.

There is no shortness of First Nations culture to experience in the Rainy River District. Take a trip out to the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre, where you will learn more about First Nation culture and tradition. If you have the chance, check out a local pow-wow.
