This is where we live Manitoulin Island is the largest lake island in the world. Situated in the north channel of lake Huron it is located between Sault St. Marie and Sudbury. Little Current, population 1500, is the second largest community on the island, and is an 800 mile drive east of Fort Frances. The term “Haweater� refers to anyone born on Manitoulin Island, with the nickname deriving from the prevalence of hawberries among the island vegetation.
