The Brilliant Book 2012 Received a copy of the Brilliant Book 2012 the other week, and to be honest, this is probably the best thing to have come along in recent years. Editor Clayton Hickman knows his Who (well he should do, he edited the official Doctor Who Magazine for many years) and the book collects together facts and figures, pictures and interviews from the most recent series. In a way, it strangely reminds me of my own book Timeframe - which people keep asking if there will be another volume of: at the moment unfortunately not as the BBC don’t wish to commission ‘outsiders’ to do the books for them, preferring to rely on staff and ‘known’ writers to do the work.

One On One Interview With Bubba: Fiesta: Bubbas East Coast Rods & Customs is characterized as a family business. How many generations are involved with building cars in your family? Bubba: We are two generations into it, my Dad and I. I started learning young when I was working with my Dad in the garage at our house. It has been a very long road to get where we are today and we will continue to keep rising. Fiesta: In terms of style what are the differences between Bubbas East Coast Rods & Customs and the west coast style? Bubba: The west coast really has a flair for building things that are visually striking like wheels and paint which make a big splash on the car. What I do is bring all the technology into everything I build to give my customer the most reliable, turn key car on the

road. My cars are meant to be driven and cover the years from 1900 to today. It’s like stepping into a brand new car right off the assembly line. In addition to making the cars extremely reliable we also make them look amazing as well. If you own a 1960 Cadillac I typically retain the beauty of the cars original lines but underneath that beautiful body lies the heart of an engine, suspension and brakes of today’s modern cars making it not only very good looking but extremely reliable to drive. The same holds true for the hot rods I build. They will look totally old school with the most special paint jobs found anywhere in the world but they have all the modern technology built into them. No more embarrassing nights at a car show and your car not starting or it overheats when you pull in. Just solid reliability! I build my cars so that if you need a part while you are driving it or it’s time to replace the brake pads or serpentine belt you can go right to the local auto parts store and get what you need. There is no having to order parts from the internet and your car not being able to be enjoyed. It’s what I call Doin’ It Bubba Style!
Fiesta: Can you tell us about future projects Bubbas has in store for 2012? Bubba: Well, we were just voted by the United States Commerce Association as the number one classic car and hot rod shop in the Unites States. We are very proud of this award! The quality of our work continues to reward us with awards and more customers. So, we are looking to expand into a larger facility here in Fairfax City, Virginia. We will be working a lot on our new TV show and we are also looking at opening a new facility in Jupiter, Florida at the end of 2012 so we have some very aggressive and ambitious goals to meet along with all the other things going on at Bubbas East Coast Rods & Customs. Fiesta: I understand you have just finished shooting the pilot to your new network TV show. Bubba:Yes, we just finished wrapping it up. You can see pictures of it on our website www.bubbascustomcars.com and also our face book page which you can access from our website or visit www.facebook.com/ BubbasEastCoastRodsCustoms Our previous TV show was the 2009 Silver TELLY award winner and had 15 million viewers a week. While I can not yet divulge what network the new show will be on I can say it is a major network and we will now have 80 million viewers a week. It’s going to be a huge jump in viewers! It will be based on classic cars and hot rods and unlike another father and son motorcycle building family that yells at each other my Dad and I wont be doing that. We will focus on the family morals and values and how we had to rely on and support each other to reach the top. Fiesta: Are you taking any acting classes? Bubba: No, none at all. This is all reality based TV so we want you get to see us as we really are. We just roll through it and really enjoy it. Fiesta: What would it mean for you to be on the cover of an American magazine?
Bubba: Many of the cars I have built have been featured on several of the largest industry magazines. I am always looking to take it to another level so it would be awesome if I personally were on the cover and not just one of the cars I had built. I am not trying to be arrogant but I build the best cars on the road today so I would love to be on a cover. Fiesta: Do you have anything you would like to share with the readers of Fiesta magazine? Bubba: Always try to reach out and touch someones life in a positive way everyday. Just do it like I do it, Bubba Style! Live honest and have fun. It’s not complicated, that’s all there is to it. Fiesta: Now, we would like to introduce our readers to the very beautiful Layla Von Athey. Layla is the spectacular pin up model and pin stripe artist of Bubbas East Coast Rods & Customs. Layla has studied under the best pin strippers in the industry ato include East Coast Artie and Tramp and it shows in her work. Layla is where the beauty of pin up and pin stripe come together as one. You can visit her face book page at www.facebook.com/LaylaVonAthey Fiesta: Layla can you tell us about your art work? Layla: I do a lot of different work depending on what the customer requests and that work ranges from doing pin stripe work on helmets, motorcycles and cars. I also design t shirts for companies. But, while I do a lot of different things I specialize in the pin stripe side of things. Fiesta: What do you think of the idea of creating a calendar for 2013 for Fiesta DC Magazine which show off some of you as a pin up model and some of your great artwork? Layla: I would love to do the calendar. I think it’s an excellent idea! Bubba and I could do some of the months together. Let’s make this happen!
