On Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, 5th, EBLO (or Education Based Latino Outreach), will be holding its 8th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration on Broadway Street between East Lombard and East Pratt Streets. Admission to the celebration is free of charge. Nearly 3,000 people attended past celebrations. And I expect this year to top previous years. The Cinco de Mayo Festival is a family-oriented weekend of Hispanic arts and culture featuring live music, dancers in authentic costumes, native handcraft vendors, Hispanic cuisine and much more.

www.latinofest.org

The tradition of Cinco de Mayo dates back to May 5, 1862 when the Mexican army led by General Ignacio Zaragosa led his smaller troop of soldiers in Puebla against the invading forces from France. This battle was part of a campaign by the French to install a European monarch led by Maximilian the archduke of Austria as emperor of Mexico. On May 5th, after an intense two hour battle the Mexican forces held their ground and the French army retreated. The Battle of Puebla proved to be a significant victory to the Mexicans who fought in the battle. The valor of those who fought the battle demonstrates the commitment, devotion, and pride of all countrymen who had to live under French rule until 1867. EBLO will mark the occasion with a celebration of the community’s diverse culture through mariachi music, Mexican folk dancing and delicious foods. This is a FREE family event that celebrates our community and offers the public an opportunity to enjoy the beauty and splendor of Cinco de Mayo.

Our History and Mission EBLO (501c3 Non-Profit) was founded in 1980 by a group of likeminded Latino residents from East Baltimore under the direction of José O. Ruiz, a community activist and at that time, new to Baltimore. José, a Puerto Rican heritage was dismayed by the tremendous lack of services available to Latinos in Baltimore. Our mission to improve the lives of Hispanic children and families through education and cultural activities remains strong today. The EBLO Board of Directors is dedicated to maintaining programs that support this underlying principle. After 33 years of educational advocacy, cultural presentations and educational program development, EBLO is now a Baltimore institution with a clear path to continued growth. Always striving to improve the services and educational opportunities for Hispanics, EBLO looks forward to another 33 years with vigor, clear vision and enthusiasm knowing that the work we do is honorable, necessary and invaluable to the children and families we serve.

Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in this sequel to the member of the X-Men’s first solo outing. Fiesta DC Magazine presents the sexy and popular DJ from New York in an exclusive interview for our readers fans of the electronic music age.

FDCM= How did you get into the worldwide music and why? •My family is in music, so I was brought up in a musical environment...and then I spent a lot of time living and traveling abroad, which further opened my mind to different types of music. FDCM= Would you like to combine modeling and being a DJ? •Not at all - I don’t enjoy taking pictures. Its part of the job. Luckily I have 2 great photographers I enjoy working with and make that part easy =) (Tim Coburn and Jon Thorpe) FDCM= Please share with us about your projects: •I’m currently full time DJing about 6 times a week in nightclubs, special events and fashion shows. My other project is a new business bringing the entertainment industry online. Finally, in my spare time, I produce commercial house music as well, for local celebrities, and my record label.

FDCM= The best song of all the time? •Not fair to ask a DJ that, I’ve got so many favorite songs.... to name a few, Tell Me Why by Supermode, Love Song Remix (The Cure) by Rex Riot and Neekola, Fool in Love by Ronni Crooks (my mother, RIP 12/31/2011) FDCM= Most requested song in your sessions? •Anything by Skrillex... FDCM= DJ that you admire? •Carl Cox - That guy loves what he does, and it shows.... not to mention uber talented in working his crowd. FDCM= Best concerts hall in USA? •I like Wolftrap, especially since I won VIP status =) Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time to go to concerts. The only time I end up going is Winter Music Conference, and then I’ve made it to Ibiza every summer to work / play. FDCM= Place of Europe that you would like to mix? I’ve mixed a lot of great places in Europe already, but I’d like to get out to Asia next...Bali in Indonesia would be great =)

Who is DJ Neekola? I was born in New York and found my love and passion for music while I was studying in Europe. It was my first time being exposed to the amazing electronic music scene there, and I was truly inspired! I moved to DC to get into production, but I was told by many mentors that I should master the art of spinning first - so that’s what I did. Now, I travel and spin all over the world, I have my own album, and I’ve made a great name for myself in the city, especially being a female artist. I hope to continue more on the production side in the near future. =)
