editor’s note Today is Valentine’s Day, a day set aside to celebrate love —and most importantly to celebrate the love that Fiesta DC Magazine has for you, the readers, clients, photographers, models, web designers, editors, writes, restaurants and pubs that we visit. We celebrate Valentines with all of you as we continue to bring you stories that inspire and interest you. In this special Valentine’s issue we feature a few of the many couples that we run into on a daily basis. We also interview some couples who share with us what love or the perfect love means to them. Most importantly, we want to tell you that we love you. Sometimes we are at a loss for words when we try to express something as complex, and confounding, as love. We travel through life loving people but sometime we don’t have the time and/or courage to share that emotion. That is what this day is for, to share the emotion of love with everyone. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! Tell the ones you love how much you love and appreciate them and give them a big kiss, hug, snuggle, or pat! Remember loved ones come in all shapes and sizes, whether it’s your partner, little one, or your fur baby! It’s Valentine’s Day and we desperately need a distraction from this abominable winter - and the emotional doldrums that have accompanied it. This year - more than any other in recent memory - we all need a little love. So why not elevate the mood of the people you love? A box of chocolates, a heart-shaped pendant, a bouquet of red roses, go out for dinner and dance - even a funny valentine will do. Please check out nice places at Fiesta DC Magazine and have fun with your valentine and friends. This is one day when such poetry will be appreciated.

> THIS IS OUR STORY <

IN 2006, A GROUP of leading classical Chinese artists came together in New York with one wish: to revive the true, divinely inspired culture of China and share it with the world.

5,000 YEARS

OF CIVILIZATION, ALMOST LOST

Local Event

CHINA WAS ONCE KNOWN as Shen Zhou-The Divine Land. This profound name describes a land where deities and mortals coexisted, and a belief that the divine transmitted a rich culture to the people of the earth. For thousands of years, Buddhist, Taoist, and other disciplines were at the heart of society. Calligraphy, music, medicine, attire, and much more were said to have been passed down from the heavens. Unfortunately... Over its past 60 years of rule, the communist regime has treated traditional Chinese values-centered on the idea of harmony between heaven and earthas a threat to its existence. And in its systematic campaigns like the Cultural Revolution, it has uprooted traditional beliefs and destroyed ancient treasuresbringing traditional 5,000 years of civilization to the brink of extinction.

SHEN YUN TODAY ENTIRELY NON-PROFIT, AND INDEPENDENT of the Chinese regime, Shen Yun enjoys the artistic freedom of New York, enabling it to now bring these ancient traditions to the stage. Shen Yun and its mission have drawn top talent from around the world; many artists are winners of international competitions in dance, choreography, and music. Shen Yun 2014 Trailer

Celebrating the Month of Love with

LOVE

STRAIGHT TO THE HEART The heart (concrete-object) the force of life, constant, pulsating, vital inevitably imbued symbolism, traditions, myths loses its physical attributes, transforms into another Heart (abstract-concept). This project is a visual unication of these two Hearts. Grabbing the symbolism of popular Spanish traditions, songs, clichés, I confront them in an attempt to redeem the essence, the matter that extracts us from the “virtual” world of our daily life to submerge us in the “real” world. The real from the abstract, the surreal from the tangible, to balance both in order not to lose the center, the pulse, the Heart. Valentine’s a day to say, “I love you,” A ritual that stages something real, Letting out the truth of what I feel Even as I think it often of you. Nor could I with such grace without this day Tell you that I’m grateful that I have you, Impress upon you just how much I need you, Needing such a frame for what I say Even as I would my heart reveal.

Describe what your culture considers to be a perfect man or woman?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates Tammy Habib, 53, Zumba Dance Instructor The perfect man is one that can do everything, a multitasker. One who guards his modesty and understands that he is responsible for guiding them, teaching them manners, and instilling in them morals.

Brooklyn, New York, United States Megan Youngblood, 23, Copy Writer The ideal of a man in New York culture is probably sophisticated, successful, and independent. And yet there is still‌the have-it-all to manage being successful as well as having a home life, and being in charge of that, and still maintaining masculine muscular, and all the sorts of standards.

Buenos Aires, Argentina Mariana Tomaselli, 33, Journalist My perfect partner is someone who‘s chemistry is compatible with my chemistry. We feel an incredible energy when we are together that we find hard to explain. We are both passionate, honest, cheerful, social, educated, and well travelled or with the desire to travel and learn from different cultures. He is opened to new ideas and is a forward thinking man. Most importantly, my partner will have eyes only for me and will make sure to treat me as special as I treat him. Caracas, Venezuela Carmen, Oribio 43, Web Designer The perfect man is full of life and is a family man. He loves to come home after work and loves playing with the kids. He is a hard worker but understands that family is the center of the universe. He is my soul mate and loves to spend as much time with my immediate family as well as our extended family. He is an honest man and a good father and a good husband. 22 - www.fiestadcmagazine.com / February 2014

Looking for true love

Santo Antonio de Jesus, bahia, Brazil Daniel Barbosa dos Santos, 27, Nursing Technician As for Brazilian culture, it is very diverse covering many kinds of people and customs, whose goal is expressing the best of what we have to offer. The woman herself, I believe for me, it includes: loyalty, and companionship.

Calgary, Canada Steve, 26, Medical Student studying in Australia. Smart, funny, just sort of chilled laidback, likes travelling and adventures, a little mischievous, is able to put up with me and my nonsense, and a nice smile. I’d say that would be a perfect woman right there.

Brisbane, Australia Jason McCabe, 30, Paramedic Science Student/Stage Mechanic I think in today’s society in Australia the idea of the perfect woman is a little bit unclear with the changing times, and the dynamics going away from marriage in general and having the wife as the homemaker, as such. And they’re being more encouraged, or having more ability to make a career of their own, and at times reversing the roles, I guess, of traditional family.

Medellín, Colombia Pablo Gallego Pérez, 18, International Business Student This perfect woman has a smile that charms, eyes that smile, and a hair that reflects beautifully in the sunlight. And besides this physical beauty she must have a strong presence, like she owns herself. I think the perfect woman is a combination of natural beauty and a personality that is undeniably fun and eccentric, and being someone who thinks. Definitely a beautiful mind doesn’t look bad on any girl.

Justin Bieber

SCANDALS

Justin Bieber’s ‘rollercoaster ride’ relationship and break-up with ex Selena Gomez fueled his ‘wild ways’ Justin Bieber’s bad behaviour was fueled by his turbulent on-off relationship with ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez - his housekeeper claimed. The 19-year-old was arrested in Miami last week on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, and drag racing in a yellow Lamborghini on January 23. Housekeeper Tatiana Vozuik, 47, told Katie Hind of the Daily Mirror that

their constant break-ups and ‘rollercoaster ride’ relationship would fuel his partying, drink and drug-taking. She said: ‘Everything would be perfect and then Justin would be depressed as they broke up. He would get so down when they would split up.’ The Sunday People reported that Tatiana was worried Justin would end up dead like Michael Jackson unless he changed his ways.

26 - www.fiestadcmagazine.com / February 2014

She spoke of how she would watch Justin play the piano and then burst into tears adding: ‘It was horrible to watch, he really loved her. I could see and feel the pain he was in.’ Tatiana admitted that people who knew them heard talk of marriage, and she even heard them speak about having children. But when they eventually split, the housekeeper said it ‘broke his heart,’ adding: ‘Everything reminded him of

Friends of Justin would allegedly come round for parties at his home in Calabasas, smoke marijuana and drink a cocktail of codeine and soda known as sizzurp. Tatiana said that she also noticed his friends, Miley Cyrus, 21, Kendall, 18, and Kylie Jenner, 16, would often come round to try and lift the spirits of the Baby singer, and it often worked. Bieber was often introduced to other girls, with Tatiana adding that they were seen as a way to forget about Selena, and admitted that one girl did stay round after the pair had broken up. His recent arrest is the most recent incident in a string of run-ins with the police including lashing out at a photographer in London, and trying to take his pet monkey to Germany without the correct paperwork. Other, slightly more serious, episodes included Swedish police discovering a small amount of maijunana in a stun gun while on his tour bus last April and urinating in a bucks in a New York club kitchen while shouting ‘F*** Bill Clinton.’

Despite the recent press, Tatiana has defended the singer, calling him a loving, respectful teenager who loves his mum Pattie Malette, 37. According to Tatiana, Pattie would visit Justin often and would speak on the phone to him regularly, but he would see less of his dad Jeremy. She added that the star wanted to make his family happy and loved making romantic gestures, including scattering 50 roses on his bed when he reunited with Selena on her birthday last year.

Justin Bieber

SCANDALS

Pop star Justin Bieber still faces all three charges of DUI and drag racing and resisting arrest after being held by cops in Miami.

Conflicting reports suggested a dramatic U-turn by authorities had taken place and that 19-year-old Bieber would only answer one misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence. However, Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the county state attorney’s office has offered clarification, saying in a statement: “Contrary to erroneous media reports, no charges have been dropped because until arraignment (the actual filing of charges in a criminal court), no charges have been filed. “Poorly defined readings of the Court Clerk’s website will lead to erroneous reports, such as this one. Expect no Bieber legal activity until the arraignment.” The conflicting reports came as laywers were said to be probing claims that police “exaggerated” allegations the troubled pop star raced a sports car at twice the speed limit during a drink and drugs bender. Justin and his R&B singer friend Khalil Sharieff, both 19, were arrested in Miami Beach on Thursday for allegedly drink-driving at speeds of 60mph. Bieber was driving a yellow Lamborghini convertible and Sharieff was in a red Ferrari that were both fitted with GPS systems. And sources close to the investigation claimed the gadgets prove the pair were driving at just

48 - www.fiestadcmagazine.com / February 2014

27mph in a 30mph zone when stopped. A source close to the singer said his lawyers would be “highlighting the inconsistencies” in the police claims. Bieber was arrested on suspicion of charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs. He was also charged with having an expired driving licence and resisting arrest. Miami Beach police chief Raymond Martinez said Bieber initially refused to co-operate with officers and was “a little belligerent, using some choice words”. The arrest report said the singer “had slow, deliberate movements” and a look of “stupor” when an officer told him to step out of the Lamborghini. But website TMZ claims Bieber’s blood alcohol level was only .014 despite claims he reeked of alcohol both at the scene and at the police station. His next court date is on Monday, but he is not expected to appear in person. The claims came as three Florida police officers were suspended without pay for giving the star an unauthorised escort from a Miami airport when he flew in on Monday night.
