GMA Network waives exclusive TV airing rights for Pacquiao-Mayweather fight
In true Kapuso fashion, GMA Network has waived its exclusive TV airing rights for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happening on May 2 in Las Vegas. "GMA Network recognizes the magnitude of this fight and we want every Filipino to be part of this momentous event and unifying experience," announced GMA Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon in a message delivered by the Company's EVP and CFO Felipe S. Yalong during a press conference.
Meanwhile, DZBB, Barangay LS and all RGMA stations nationwide, will carry the exclusive rights on radio. As in previous years, GMA offers its sincerest support for its Kapuso, Manny Pacquiao, who is about to embark on what is touted to be the biggest highlight of his illustrious boxing career. "Sa pagsampa mo Manny, sa ring laban kay Mayweather sa darating na Mayo, kaisa mo ang GMA Network at ang sambayanang Pilipino sa isip, sa damdamin, at sa pangarap na makamit natin ang tagumpay," expressed Gozon. The Kapuso head honcho added that GMA will be "one with the entire nation in praying for the victory of Manny," praising his unprecedented achievements in the boxing arena that "attest to the capability of the Filipino to excel in the global stage."
The Pambansang Kamao has an ongoing show with GMA, MP Featuring Sport Science, and has starred in numerous programs on the Kapuso Network. His earlier fights were also broadcasted on free TV exclusively by GMA. For his part, Mike Enriquez, GMA consultant for Radio Operations, said, "We are proud to once again be a partner of Solar [Sports] in bringing the latest Pacquiao adventure, this time against Floyd Mayweather Jr., live and real time from Las Vegas." The fight dubbed "Battle for Greatness" will air on May 3 via delayed telecast on GMA7, while DZBB will bring the blow-by-blow action on the same day.
Winnipeg to be Host of 2015 Yamaha Junior Original concert
T
he Junior Original Concert (JOC) is a program created by Yamaha Music in 1972 to provide opportunities for young musicians to share their original music compositions with an audience. Since that first concert so many years ago, JOC have been held in many locations throughout the world from small local halls to major stages of the world including Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto and the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York City. This spring, Winnipeg will be at the centre of attention as it hosts
the 2015 Junior Original Concert at the Berney Theatre on April 26th. The concert will feature amazing student compositions from Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. As well, there will be an ensemble performance and a spontaneous improvisation by one of the young composers based on a theme provided by an audience member. The concert will feature 5 young composers from Winnipeg performing their own piano compositions. They range in age from 6 years old to 11 years old.

Ano Nga Ba ang mga Bagay o Gawain na Dapat Ikahiya? On the Hypocrisy behind Guilty Pleasures and on What Activities One Should Be Really Guilty Of May mga tao na merong mga kinagigiliwang bagay o gawain subalit ayaw nila itong ipaalam sa iba.

April 20-May 5, 2015 kaya nila iyan nagagawa.

Time Management: A Key to Success By Thuy Lam | Manitoba Start
D
o you ever feel like you’re running out of time? We all get the same 24 hours in a day. Why does it seem like some people are able to achieve so much more with those 24 hours than others? The answer is found in effective time management. Time management is about how you organize and plan the time you spend on specific activities. On the surface of things, it seems that time management should be easy and straightforward—something that just happens. In practice, time management is a skill that takes effort to develop. The ability to manage your time effectively can benefit you in many ways: •Increased productivity and efficiency •Decreased stress •Greater opportunities to achieve important life and career goals •More time where it matters •A dependable and professional reputation Conversely, being unable to manage your time effectively can have negative consequences: •Inefficient workflow
9 7
The Pulse of the Filipino Community since 1987
•Missed deadlines •Higher stress levels •Lower quality of work •A poor professional reputation Time management is about spending your time in the right places, on the right thing. In order to manage your time effectively, it’s important to know your priorities, obligations, and schedule. You have to find the strategy that works for you. The following tips can help you to improve your time management skills: 1.Prioritize work. At the start of each day, make a list of tasks, beginning with the ones that require your immediate attention. Some tasks may need to be completed that same day while others can be carried forward to the next day. Prioritize your tasks to focus on the ones that are more important. 2.Avoid procrastination. Procrastination wastes essential time and energy and has a negative effect on productivity. 3.Avoid multitasking. Many of us feel that multitasking is a more efficient way of getting things done. In reality, we do better when we focus and concentrate on one task at a time. It’s better to finish one task before moving to another.
4.Set up deadlines. Set a realistic deadline for your task and stick to it. It may help to set the deadline a few days before the task is due so you can complete any other tasks that might get in the way. Challenge yourself to meet the deadline, and reward yourself for meeting a difficult challenge. 5 Schedule tasks. Carry a notebook or a planner with you to write down all the tasks that come to mind—or enter them on your phone. Make a to-do list at the start of each day, and prioritize your tasks. Make sure your to-do list for the day is attainable. Practicing these time management skills will allow you to be in control of your time and your life. It will allow you to maintain balance between your work, personal, and family responsibilities. Time management is a key to success! I remember making my way to the MGM Grand Arena back on December 6, 2008. A nice escape from the Winnipeg winter. Instead of manoeuvering around ice and snow, I was zig-zagging around a traffic jam of tourists making the same journey. It was fight night in Las Vegas and not just any fight. It was billed the Dream Match. The "Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya had just defeated Steve Forbes and was looking for another fight on his quest to avenge a split decision loss to Floyd Mayweather. Unfortunately, Mayweather had retired which left De La Hoya scrambling to find an opponent. Enter Manny Pacquiao. After eight straight wins, HBO and ESPN suggested

that fighting Pacquiao would be the best option and De La Hoya agreed. De La Hoya moved down a weight class where the rising Filipino star would move up two. Hardly a fair fight. As I continued my way to the arena, nightclub promoters were trying to get me to attend their "De La Hoya victory party" once the fight was over. I smiled and kept walking. It was the last time Manny Pacquiao walked to ring as an underdog as Vegas sports books had De La Hoya as a big favorite considering it as a mismatch. Pacquiao cruised to a technical knockout victory after the 8th round and made the legendary De La Hoya quit on his stool refusing to take any more punishment. The Filipino fighter rose to superstar status

April 20-May 5, 2015 that night and shortly after, Floyd Mayweather came out of retirement. Fast forward six and a half years and Mayweather and Pacquiao's paths will finally cross. Mayweather's undefeated record remains intact and will face his stiffest challenge to date. Pacquiao has become one of the most decorated fighters in boxing history winning titles in eight divisions. When he walks to the ring in less than two weeks, the fighting Congressman will once again be labelled as an underdog. It's a role that he remembers when he fought De La Hoya. "I can easily beat Floyd Mayweather, I believe that," Pacquiao tweeted. "Everyone had me as an underdog to Oscar De La Hoya, too. If Floyd Mayweather fights me, boxing will get an even bigger upset victory." After a controversial loss to Timothy Bradley and a knockout by rival Juan Manuel Marquez. Many questioned if Pacquiao would get his shot at Floyd Mayweather. Pacman dominated in his next three fights and Mayweather continued outclassing anyone that stood in his way. There was no other fight left to be made except pitting the two against each other. It was the only fight the world wanted to see. On May 2nd, Pacquiao will finally get his shot at Mayweather and history might repeat itself. The underdog might come out the victor and shock the world once more. After the De La Hoya fight, I walked back to my hotel room and passed the same club promoting the fight after party. The promoter recognized me and I leaned in and asked if it was the "De La Hoya victory party or the De La Hoya retirement party". He had a good laugh. Prediction: Manny Pacquiao stops Floyd Mayweather in the eighth round.

Getting Ready for the Season
Alvin Manio and Tommy Nguyen capped their first season of ice fishing by entering the Falcon Lake Winter Fish-Off.
T
he countdown is on for all of us anxious anglers in the Southern Manitoba region. The 2015/16 season opener, which is traditionally the second Saturday in May, lands on the 9th this year. In stark contrast to last year’s opening day where we had to deal with flood waters and lingering ice cover, this year appears set to kick-off with prime conditions for open water fishing. If you are like me, to survive the next few agonizing weeks, I will pull out all of my gear and tackle and get them ready to go for the first trip on the water. Fishing equipment such as rods and reels require periodic maintenance to ensure proper performance. They are often put away immediately after the last trip in the fall and forgotten about until this time of the year. It is always good practice to ensure that your equipment is working properly before you hit the water to avoid any surprises that may have occurred over the winter. Reels should be taken apart, cleaned, and lubricated with reel lube. If you have spools lined with monofilament, these should be replaced with a fresh spool as this type of line gets weaker over time. If it is a larger reel, say like the ones paired with the longer ‘greenback’ surf rods, you
All photos & articles available online!
can get away with stripping off a good length of the used line and start the season with the less exposed remaining spool. Reels with braided superline or nanofil are usually more resistant to degradation but should be checked for fraying or nicks and replaced as needed. Wipe down all of your rods and check that all components are intact. Check the line eyes for chips or missing inserts and examine the rod blank for fractures or cracks. Setting the hook on that long-awaited first bite of the year and then having the line get cut or your rod breaking can quickly ruin your day. Another important thing to go over thoroughly is your tackle. Tackle boxes, bags, and trays can get very disorganized and jumbled up over the course
April 20-May 5, 2015
of a fishing season. This is a great time to tidy everything up and discard any items that are no longer useful or things that you do not plan on ever using. Rusty hooks, jigs, spoons, etc . are not the most effective tools for catching fish and should be cleaned up or replaced altogether. Even equipment such as camping chairs, life jackets, landing nets, coolers, and anything else that you would normally take with you on a trip should be given the once over. Should an item need replacing or repair, it is always much better to know in advance instead of being disappointed when you get out there. I always get my angling licence ahead of time and encourage anyone that I will be heading out with to do the same to avoid any delays in getting a line in the water come opening day. These can be purchased at any tackle store, sporting sections of the big box retailers, or some gas stations that advertise selling bait and tackle. As always, if you have any questions about anything fishing related or want to share your fishing pictures with our readers, don’t hesitate to email me.

Winnipeg Jets Report by Derick Ramos @DerickRamos
Paint the Town White!
T
here's a storm coming, Winnipeg. The midApril forecast calls for a 'Whiteout' Winnipeg hasn't seen since the mid 90s and Winnipeg Jets fans are smiling from ear to ear. The Jets secured a Wild Card spot with a little help and will be returning NHL playoff hockey back to the city for the first time since 1996. It may be the season of spring but fans want to turn it into duck season as the Jets first round opponent will be the Anaheim Ducks. The Jets didn't take the easy route in their final six games to get to the postseason. After a deflating loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, the Jets experienced a defensive breakdown late in a game against the New York Rangers. Chris Kreider scorched past Dustin Byfuglien and scored on a breakaway late in a tied game. The 3-2 loss temporatily knocked the Jets out of a playoff spot. Winnipeg regained their composure against the Vancouver Canucks in their final game of a four game homestand. In a back and forth affair that saw a total of five first period goals, the Jets outlasted the Canucks in a 5-4 win. Lee Stempniak scored twice and Mathieu Perreault assisted on three goals in the victory. Closing off a season with three of four games on the road is an uphill battle for any team trying to keep pace in the playoff hunt but goalie Ondrej Pavelec was up to the challenge. Pavelec continued his hot streak allowing zero goals in regulation in the three road games. The Czech goaltender backstopped the Jets to a 2-0 win against the Minnesota Wild making 32 saves and shut
13
The Pulse of the Filipino Community since 1987
down the St. Louis Blues 1-0 turning away 30 shots. Pavelec stood on his head once more against the Colorado Avalanche with 21 saves and after 65 minutes, the game remained
scoreless. The Avalanche managed to solve the Pavelec puzzle scoring twice in the shootout for a 1-0 shootout win. Despite the loss, Winnipeg gained a point and awaited the result between Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings. The Flames beat the Kings 3-1 to oust the defending Stanley Cup champions out of playoff contention and punch the Jets playoff ticket. Once word hit the Jets and the city of Winnipeg, the celebration ensued from the locker rooms at the Pepsi Centre to Portage and Main back in Winnipeg.
"Finally, finally we did it," a relieved Pavelec said. "We can finally say we did it. It's a good feeling, a really good feeling." The Jets closed off the regular season in style with a 5-1 win against the team that helped them into the postseason, the Calgary Flames. With both teams securing a playoff spot, mainstays were rested on both sides. Despite the game being meaningless, fans at the MTS Centre gave a
sneak peak for the league to see with fans bringing the noise and sporting white shirts and jerseys. The Winnipeg Jets and Anaheim Ducks kick off their series on April 16 in Anaheim followed by Game 2 on April 18. The 'Whiteout' hits the MTS Centre April 20 and Apr 22 for Games 3 and 4, respectively. The Ducks swept the season series against Winnipeg 3-0.

‘Kid Kulafu,’ a knockout of a movie Kid Kulafu is a touching movie that offers a look into the humble beginnings of Manny Pacquiao to his first step into the boxing ring. The film got its title after a brand of wine whose bottles Manny (Buboy Villar) collected as a child, for his uncle Sardo (Cesar Montano) in exchange for the help he extends to his family. Uncle Sardo was also his first boxing mentor, The film relates Manny’s early life mired in extreme poverty in the mountains of Bukidnon in southern Philippines. The experience must have galvanized
the young Pacman’s strong-willed character and unbending desire to make things better for his family, while shaping his own destiny. Eventually the family moved to General Santos City after getting caught in middle of a firefight between rebels and government forces, Alessandra de Rossi effectively played her role as Manny’s mother, Dionisia. Cesar Montano and Alex Medina (Manny’s father Rosalio) likewise both did their part well. But, most of the memorable scenes were brought by Buboy Villar’s

Ancheta said his parents called him Lucky because he survived a premature birth. The Aces on the other hand, refers to AC’s nickname. The kids told Ellen that they'd love to dance for singer Ariana Grande, who happens to be performing in Vancouver in April. In response, Ellen surprised the duo with VIP tickets to the concert.

Reaction to the ring A pinay’s guide to getting hitched We invest a lot of thought into marriage proposals. Some of us dream up grand gestures inspired by chick flicks and fairy tales, involving hot air balloons, string quartets and clearcut diamonds soaked in wine. On the other hand, there are those who opt for the understated. A simple dinner, modest ring and heartfelt speech may be the only

ingredients needed to make your loved one swoon. My husband proposed to me two years ago on a warm winter day. We were standing in front of our new home, a charming starter space picked out after living in a downtown apartment for two years. This was my first time seeing it since the open house.
I was overflowing with joy and pride. I kept thinking, “We made it!” We’ve finally hit another milestone. To my surprise, it wasn’t the only major life event planned for that day. It was on our front doorstep where my husband went down on one knee and asked if I wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. It was simple, but monumental. I’ll always remember that kind and uncomplicated moment. A proposal can do many things, but most importantly, it should show the person you love how well you know them. For most of us, we don’t need our names spelled out in the clouds. We won’t judge if you had to spend a little less on the engagement ring to help budget for our future. We can make do without having our entire proposals packaged into a viral video on YouTube. To quote one of my favourite songs, love is all you need.

April 20-May 5, 2015
Horoscope If it seems like you’ve done nothing but go around with urgency, this week brings the chance to catch your breath. After all the excitement, pause and assess your progress. You’ll also need to think about money and other resources, such as talents, information, and anything else necessary to get ahead and how you might make use them.
It’s time to turn inspiration into practice – take that bright idea and run with it. But there’s no rush. Allow whatever you have in mind to grow organically and you won’t go far wrong. Don’t force anything, but do take advantage of a wave of enthusiasm. Meanwhile, a romantic dream can come true over the weekend.
Have you been finding it hard to get through to someone? If so, this issue could come when the person in question may seem at their most stubborn. Don’t ask for any favors at this time, whoever it is, as you might receive contrition. The weekend is great for movies, fun, and chilling out in general.
PAHALANG
Delays in receiving cash and other forms of abundance should soon come to an end. Those seeds you planted a while ago will begin to grow, bringing the potential for greater income for you. You can also increase your chances of attracting golden opportunities by networking regularly, whether you’re looking for new friends or something more romantic.
If you’re eager to get your money working harder for you, the current alignment suggests that putting in the effort now can bring good returns further down the line. You can do even better if you’re willing to ask for advice from someone with experience. Bring an opportunity to take a relationship to a new level. Whether you’re in a budding romance or considering a business partnership, this is the time to go for it.
There’s plenty of potential for fun and drama in your life, particularly if you’re willing to move outside your comfort zone. There’s also a push to succeed in your career, which you can benefit from by slowing down and considering what you really want. It’s worth spending time doing this, as the climate is right for you to succeed so long as you’re heading in the right direction.
You’ll find your interactions have a soothing, beneficial effect on you. Even if you can’t agree on something, the earthy qualities of energies can act as a potion to your soul. If your intense feelings have complicated matters, you’ll find the common sense solutions that show up to be a revelation.
The urgency around money matters may die down this week, leaving you feeling less anxious yet even more motivated to increase your earning potential. Upgrade your skill set by taking a course or class. If you’re driven to increase your knowledge, this is the time to go for it. Be confident enough to move in the direction of your dreams, as an optimistic influence pushes you to move outside your comfort zone.
You could be feeling out in the cold early this week. But because the aspect is temporary, things between you and other matters can quickly improve. It pays to nourish your mind and body by getting enough sleep, eating the right foods, and exercising regularly. If you’ve been busy, think about indulging a day in the spa. You are your own best resource, so it certainly pays to invest in your well-being.
If you’re in the dating loop, you’ll have the most luck when you seek out others who share your love of the good things in life - people who enjoy gourmet food, excel at business, and love the same cultural activities. It can be a catalyst for change on the home front. If you have a plan, that’s the day to put it into action.
There’s a good chance your sweetheart has issues that have nothing to do with you. As it’s only temporary, you’ll soon be back on good terms. You may be eager to sort out homebased projects. Saturday could be your best bet, as a potent transit delivers the energy and enthusiasm to get things off to a great start.
It’s technically a great time to entertain at home and make family and friends feel welcome. The only exception to this could be on a Tuesday, when an unsettled connection could throw a monkey wrench in the works. It’s also an excellent time for a date with a romantic theme. If you want to impress or give your sweetheart special treat, this is the time to go for it.

St. Petersburg, Russia, a "Living Museum"
O
n the Gulf of Finland in northern Russia is Saint Petersburg, the former capital and cultural centre of the Russian Empire founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703. Originally named after St. Peter, Saint Petersburg had also two other names in the past: Petrograd (literally the "city of Peter") and Leningrad (named after the death of Lenin). We experience the best of St. Petersburg, a city dedicated to art and culture, on a guided two-day land and canal cruise tour taking in many of the famous historical sites including the city's birthplace at Peter and Paul Fortress, the Church of the Resurrection on the Spilled Blood, the Winter Palace and the Hermitage, St. Isaac's Cathedral, and the Nevskiy Prospekt.
St. Petersburg is dominated by the baroque Winter Palace built as the winter residence of Tsarina Elizabeth and for use by the imperial family during the winter. Its main highlights are the Small Throne Room, the Malachite Room and the Jordan Staircase. In 1764 the Hermitage was added by Tsarina Catherine the Great to house her vast art collection and since 1852 the Hermitage has been declared as a public museum. Today the Hermitage collection consists of about three million exhibits second in size to the Louvre's of Paris making it one of the world's largest. SS Peter and Paul Fortress, originally built in wood and then replaced in stone, is considered as the nucleus of St. Petersburg. We are told that during the construction of this fortification

situated at the Neva River delta hundreds of forced labourers died on the job. The fortress was later used to guard and torture political prisoners. The city is also famous for its beautiful churches notably Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral, St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Church on the Spilled Blood (Church of Resurrection). We admired most the "Church on the Spilled Blood", both a historical monument and an outstanding work of art. The church was built on the spot where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881 by a revolutionary group. Inside the church is a special chapel that marks the site of the murder. You won't see any single painting in the church interior. Instead the walls are entirely covered with colourful mosaics. On the exterior the multi-coloured domes are largely decorated with mosaic coat of arms that represent the towns, regions and provinces of the Russian Empire. The copulas are covered with bright enamels and hipped roofs with coloured tiles. It's an amazing sight especially from a distance! St. Isaac's Cathedral with its dome covered with 100 kg. of gold is the fourth largest doomed cathedral on the globe after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Originally intended to be the greatest church in the Russian realm it's now officially a museum filled with 19th century art. The commercial and financial centre of St. Petersburg

is the Nevskiy Prospekt , the main street of the metropolis as straight as an arrow. It is also considered as the most famous street in all of Russia. There's still so much to tell about St. Petersburg. Stay tuned!!!!
Trivia: Saint Petersburg has one of the deepest metros in the world - on average the stations are situated 60-70 meters beneath the ground.

T
he all new redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost is an absolutely stunning vehicle to drive in the winter. Too bad winter is over! Thank you Ford! Finally, a sports car with studded winter tires! In the past, manufacturers would just bring cars to Winnipeg in the winter and most of the time, keep the factory all-season tires on the vehicle. When you are used to driving a vehicle with winter tires, having a set of performance studded winter tires on a Mustang was a blessing. This would be the perfect winter car for our harsh prairie winters. The 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost came equipped with Nokian Hakkapelliita 8 studded winter tires. This was my first time driving a sports car with studded tires. I've been a huge proponent of winter tires but with the rear wheel drive and 310hp under the hood, the studded tires were such a joy to drive with in the winter. I noticed better
