There are two common defense mechanisms that many people commit towards their friends: exaggerating and
downplaying. These are signs of a hypocritical friendship. Exaggerating When a person exaggerates habitually, this may be seen as her attempt to assert her believability because she knows deep inside that her credibility is low, so she feels the need to exaggerate things. She tends to exaggerate some qualities of her friends because she thinks that, by doing so, she gets also portions of the praises and the credits. Therefore, exaggerating your friend's qualities or achievements is actually self-centered—it's all about you and not about your friend. You exaggerate something about your friend not for her to gain praises but for the illusion that you yourself are the one who's earning the praises. It's like reaping or partaking of the fruits of the labors of others.
This is similar also to exaggerating the qualities of one's own country to achieve a false sense of national pride. People who habitually exaggerate know deep inside that what they are claiming is untrue, so they are deluding not only others to impress them but also themselves. Downplaying Now, this is the reverse. It is the tendency to minimize the significance of someone or to make someone appear less important than he really is. The primary reasons a person would downplay qualities or achievements of her friends are feelings of insecurity and envy, either because she feels threatened by a friend's positive qualities; or, because of her insecurity, she feels that the higher the praises her friends gets, the lesser her own accomplishments are being noticed—so, she develops the tendency to withhold due praises for the friend because she feels that this is hurting her own ego. People who find difficulty in praising their friends or who rarely acknowledge the accomplishments of their own friends are obviously downplaying, most likely because they feel envious of them or praising them lessens their own sense of achievement. Examples Give due, proper, and exact credit and praises. If a friend of yours won 1 million in a lottery, don't tell people that he won 5 million. If a friend is good at boxing, don't tell everyone that he

is good also in being a politician when he is obviously not. Be honest. Be exact. Don't be delusional. Don't exaggerate. On the other hand, if your friend is good at something, acknowledge this. As a friend, reaffirm his qualities. Acknowledge his accomplishments. Don't feel threatened by this. Don't let this diminish your own sense of achievement. Don't feel a lesser

person every time you praise other people. Be fair. Be honest. Be a real friend...whether in front of them or behind their backs. Sa Madaling Salita Kung di mo rin lang kayang maging isang tapat na kaibigan sa isang tao e huwag mo nang pilitin o wag ka nang magpanggap, dahil ginagawa mo lang ipokrito ang iyong sarili.

Today’s Preparation, Tomorrow’s Success By Manitoba Start Staff
I
t pays to work hard at setting your direction for the future. Manitoba’s economy continues to grow, making it an ideal Province in which to start a new life. Each month, thousands of new jobs are added to various industry sectors. One of these jobs may be the perfect fit for you! After arriving in Winnipeg, Rory was surprised to learn that it takes new Canadians an average of up to 16 weeks to gain employment that aligns with their career goals or work experience. Although he initially felt concerned about this length of time, he decided to embrace a realistic viewpoint: Finding a good job that matches your career path takes time, research, and preparation. Rory was able to find much of the information he needed about the Manitoba labour market and specific occupations online. If you have recently arrived in Canada, a visit to Manitoba Start (271 Portage Avenue) is another way to connect with the training and information you need to conduct a successful job search. What type of research and preparation is involved in finding the right job? 1. Research Manitoba Labour Market Information (LMI). Rory’s first steps were to: • Learn about occupations that are in demand or decline. • Find out which industry sectors are growing. • Read about job openings, expectations, skills, and salaries within his occupational field. • Understand supply and demand. • Research information about Canadian workplace culture. Links to get you started: • Manitoba LMI: http://www. gov.mb.ca/tce/lmi/trends/index. html. • Manitoba workforce trends: http://www.gov.mb.ca/tce/lmi/ trends/trends.html.
• Manitoba labour market monthly report: http://www. hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/lmi/ publications/index.shtml. • Canadian workplace culture: http://discovertourism.ca/ en/come_work_in_canada/ canadian_workplace_culture; http://www.skillsconnect.ca/ seeking-employment/workplaceculture. 2. Research your profession or career interests. Rory’s background was in construction management. He gathered information about work opportunities in his field to answer these questions: • What are the skill expectations for this job? • What are the educational or work experience requirements? • What are the language requirements? • Are there licensing requirements? If so, what is the assessment process? • What are the training opportunities for bridging skills gaps? • Is this job in demand? (Is there a lot of competition in this profession?) • What are the salary expectations? Ways to find this information include:
• Online research. • Networking. • Meeting employers. • Participating in Manitoba Start programs. 3. Research job opportunities. Once Rory determined his long-term career goal, he researched that profession and related alternatives as short-term goals. Then he started looking for specific job opportunities. His goal was to find a match between his qualifications and interests and an employer who needed his skills. Rory determined to take these steps: • Look at job websites. • Read the job advertisements section of the newspaper. • Attend job fairs. • Network. • Find specific companies to apply at, and contact them directly. • Register with Manitoba Start to receive employment services. Through this process, Rory experienced firsthand that investing time in planning and research gave him confidence about his career plan. His preparation resulted in a successful job search and got him on track with his first job in Canada. Today’s preparation is tomorrow’s success.

Community, Collaboration & Charity Ron Cantiveros
I
mmediately after I was asked by Jon Reyes to be the keynote speaker at the 2013 MFBC Awards Gala, I already knew what I was going to talk about. We all have stories to share, and the MFBC keynote was an opportunity for me to share my stories and maybe, just maybe inspire someone in the audience to be better tomorrow than they were today. My focus was going to be about our family newspaper business and how it has evolved over the last three decades. Our growing Filipino community is the root of that evolution and as our community grows so too will the Filipino Journal. It took nearly 42 years for the Filipino community in Manitoba to reach 35,000. Since 2006, our community has nearly doubled to almost 70,000! That’s 7 years! Take a moment for that idea to sink in. The exponential growth of our community represents interesting opportunities and challenges. Not just for our newspaper but for many of the businesses that were at the MFBC Awards Gala. There’s value in being part of an organization that brings together like minded individuals. The network of
ron@filipinojournal.com
talented, aggressive, smart and engaging entrepreneurs and business professionals will only make our community stronger and more vibrant. While there are many members in the MFBC that are in the same line of work, I believe that competition will bring out the best in all of us. As an entrepreneur, I believe we all need to be competitive in order to push ourselves and our peers to break new boundaries. But without collaboration, our ideas will never become reality. In my keynote, I referred to an African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Collaborating with the right partners can help achieve mutual goals more efficiently. Approached properly, they can help create and achieve goals beyond our wildest dreams. What’s amazing about our community relationships is that it can go beyond our professional boundaries and have a huge impact on our behaviors, wellbeing, income, happiness, and even longevity. It was a year ago, at the inaugural MFBC Awards Gala where I mentioned that we don’t go into business to win awards.
Rather, if you’re going to start a business, one should start a business to make a difference in people’s lives. Sure making money is one goal, but the opportunity to provide a better product or service is the underlying motivation for any entrepreneur. Now let’s talk charity and making a greater impact in our community. As business owners and community leaders, giving back to the community is one of many kind and generous ways to say thank you. At the MFBC Awards Gala, $2000 was donated to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Manitoba Chapter) and we except to see more collaboration between both organizations in educating our community on kidney disease. Under the newly formed Rosalinda Natividad-Cantiveros Foundation, we’re growing a youth scholarship fund and
looking at projects to collaborate with Filipino artists. The projects would focus on teaching, preserving and promoting Philippine heritage and culture
in Canada. I’m excited and I’m going to need your help. And as Sir Richard Branson once said, “Don’t just play the game – change it for good.”
Giving back to the community can be fun. Showing off my hand painted minion inspired bowl which I painted for Winnipeg Harvest Empty Bowls campaign for the annual Souper Lunch at MTS Centre.

Cruising the Baltic
F
or a number of reasons we booked the 12-day Baltic cruise (Russia and Scandinavia) aboard Carnival Cruise Line (Legend), the world's largest cruise line founded in 1972 and headquartered in Miami, Florida. The Baltic Sea is located in Northern Europe and bordered by Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, northeastern Germany, and eastern Denmark and its numerous islands. Not only memories of millenia of history will come alive by visiting and exploring a range of Scandinavian and Baltic countries in a most relaxing manner one could ever imagine regardless of the famously unpredictable weather conditions in the region but also for the simple reason that we are well overdue for some kind of culture that are alluring as they are different. Embarking at the Port of Dover, England, on a beautiful August afternoon, we had a one day fun at sea before docking at the first port of call, Copenhagen (Denmark), the world's happiest city of 2007 and the world's best city for quality of life for 2013. In Copenhagen you can't miss the New Zealand countryside and its fairytale castles, the Tivoli Gardens, Freetown Christiania, the 12-km. Oresund Bridge and Tunnel to Sweden, Nyhavn waterfront (New Harbour), and the most famous landmark of the city - the bronze Statue of the Little Mermaid watching over the harbour at Langelinie.
At 6:30 am the following day we're at Warnemunde, Germany, and hop on a private train to Berlin to experience its main highlights Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie and Gendarmenmarkt, the famous Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, as well as one of the most somber and chilling destinations, the former Nazi Concentration Camp at Sachsenhausen. Another day at sea and we're at Helsinki, the capital of Finland, one of the coldest cities on the globe with only 51 days of sunshine in winter. Our tour of Helsinki starts from the Senate Square with its neoclassicial Helsinki Cathedral and government buildings from the mid19th century and continue on foot to Market Place for souvenir shopping. We've some free time to visit the unique Temppeliaukion Church that was built inside of the rock and also the Jean Sibelius monumental park and to the Suomenlinna fortification islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With too much anxiety and anticipation to experience Russia we're quite overwhelmed to visit St. Petersburg, a Western-style city that was once the capital of USSR. Among the city's key sights are SS Peter and Paul Fortress, The Church on Spilled Blood (Church of Resurrection), the world-famous Hermitage, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Nevsky Prospekt, and the awesome Catherine Palace.
Looming majestically above the ocean is the well-preserved medieval city of Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia, the country where the skype and the hotmail were born. Our trip began at the Palace Square - the site of the Parliament House, the 19th century Russian Orthodox St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the 15th century Dome Church. From the viewing platforms on the Toompea Hill of Tallinn's Upper Town we have an excellent view of the sea and the Lower Town with its church spires, medieval houses and red rooftops. The Estonia Open Air museum located in a village called Rocca Al Mare will let you travel back in time to the rural Estonia of old where a 19th century village life is recreated with its old farmhouses, a wooden chapel and school, and windmills. We wind up the day watching folk dance and music performances of six local dancers followed by coffee/tea and barley bread. The last full day of the cruise awaits us to experience two of the many things that the city of Amsterdam, in The Netherlands, is famous for - the windmills and cheese, i.e., in addition to Vincent Van Gogh.

MFBC Honours its Best at the 2013 Awards Gala Dinner Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Bien & Max Marasigan - Inkster Heating & Cooling
Contribution to the Community Award
Dante Soloman Alambra - Sikaran School of Martial Arts
Bien and Max started their business only three and a half years ago with a modest personal investment and a great deal of dedication, passion and effort by all involved. One key initial business strategy was the equation that “Low Overhead = Low prices for customers”. This strategy earned them the attention of new customers but it was their exceptional customer service standards that earned their customers’ trust.
Dante began training in Filipino Martial Arts at the age of 5 and opened up a school upon immigrating to Winnipeg in November 1977. Dante has taught thousands of students, including many MFBC members. He was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2003, and inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2013.
Bien and Max also received the Overall Excellence Award, an honour that was decided by the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Filipino Business Council.
Business Executive of the Year -Female Tia Provici Polvorosa - PROVICI Cosmectics
Business Executive of the Year - Male
Dr. Tom Colina - Pearl Family Dental Care Clinic / Ellice Dental Group
Tia was nominated earlier this year at the 2013 YMCA/YWCA Women of Distinction Awards in the Leadership and Management. She was also selected in July 2013 as one of 30 Canadians by the Canadian Foundation of Economic Education to be featured in “Entrepreneurship for Canadians”. Today she has a successful business, her own line of vibrant makeup products, and a very loyal following.
Employer of the Year Emmie Leung Emterra Environmental
Emmie Leung’s first venture into recycling took place as a test collection system in 197. Today, Emterra Environmental has over 1000 corporate employees, 180 local employees of which 70 are of Filipino heritage. Paulina Leung - Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development accepted the award on behalf of Emmie Leung.
Excellence in Service Marianne De Jesus Ferrer Agape Insurance and Financial Services
Marianne was described by the judges as being successful in their ability to build a high level of trust, integrity, and yet sincere and driven. Gala Co-Chairs Message
2013 has been an incredible year for Filipinos in Manitoba. We’ve established many new businesses, built exciting international partnerships, and made quite the impression at 65,000 Filipinos strong in our province. Needless to say, Manitoba is home to some of the most formidable and talented entrepreneurs anywhere in the country – and we are proud to call this province home. As this year’s Co-Chairs, we feel absolutely blessed to have worked with some talented people, networked with key members in the Filipino business community, and hopefully inspired the next generation of entrepreneurial Filipinos to be actively involved with the MFBC. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the strength and support from many key individuals. We want to thank our committee, membership, hosts, sponsors, nominees, judges, and honoured guests in helping make the 2nd Annual MFBC Awards Gala a night to remember. This year has been an unforgettable experience for the both of us. We look forward to seeing what the MFBC has in store for next year’s premier event, and hope to see you there! The Pulse of the Filipino Community since 1987
President’s Message
It gives me great honor and privilege to serve as the President of the MFBC and for you to be here to celebrate our 2nd Annual MFBC Awards Gala! We have had many great events and crowning achievements this year; being recognized by our province for our volunteer contribution to the community at this year’s Volunteer Service Awards; having the Chief Statistician Wilf Faulk announce of the growing numbers of the Filipino population in Manitoba at our May event; and most recently our business mission to the Philippines where we were able to establish key contacts for our members to conduct business with the companies in the Philippines. In addition, the MFBC was able to sign a Joint Memorandum of Cooperation with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. I am proud to represent the MFBC locally and internationally. Who would have thought that a day would come to have a true business organization in our Filipino community supporting each other’s accomplishments as business owners and giving back to our community. The MFBC membership continues to grow and with the growth like in our community, brings greater responsibility. Along with the board, current membership and myself, we welcome the challenge to continue to become the voice of business through leadership. And I will not allow just for us to be reactive and for things to happen but we, the MFBC, will make things happen! Congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients at this year’s MFBC Awards Gala. All of you are deserving of your efforts. I am glad to see all of you recognized for your dedication and passion for your respective businesses. Thank you to our sponsors and supporters to help make our night another success and a memorable one. And I want to mention a special thanks to the Gala Co-Chairs for tonight, Jackie Doming and Katrina Daaca. Your dedication and time you put into this event has made this another successful night! I want to thank Mike Pagtakhan & Golda Ferrer for their time and efforts also putting this year’s gala together. Also I want to acknowledge our membership committee, who work behind the scenes to ensure our members are kept up to date with our current events. Thank you Tes Aiello, Cynthia Reyes, Jihan Aquino, Ray Mutuc, Olia Skala, Tia Polvorosa and Valen Scott Vergara. Last but not least, I want to thank my wife Cynthia Reyes, my staff at The UPS Store Kenaston Common, for giving me the time to commit to the MFBC as President. On behalf of the MFBC Board of Directors and the committees, I hope you enjoy and witness another historic night within the MFBC! Thank you everyone! Maraming salamat po sa inyo lahat! Jon Reyes

Winnipeg Jets Report by Derick Ramos @DerickRamos
Own Worst Enemy
I
f the second half of October showed us anything about the Winnipeg Jets, it’s that they’re battling more than tough Central division opponents - they are also battling themselves. The Jets won two of nine games and now find themselves at the bottom of their division. Coming off a 3-0 win against the New Jersey Devils, the Jets would try to build momentum on another Eastern Conference opponent as they hosted the Montreal Canadiens. Goaltender Carey Price had other ideas stopping all 36 shots that he faced blanking the Jets 3-0. After a flat performance against Montreal, Winnipeg would rally from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to beat the Blues in a

shootout. Olli Jokinen scored the shootout winner thrilling the MTS Centre crowd. The win came at a steep price as rookie defenseman Jacob Trouba sustained a neck injury going face first into the boards and had to be stretchered off the ice. The Nashville Predators came into town without the services of netminder Pekka Rinne. Carter Hutton was up to the task turning away 38 shots to give the Predators a 3-1 win. An old Southeast Division nemesis was next up for Winnipeg. The Jets showed a lot of character against Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals but fell short losing 5-4 in a shootout.
Bryan Little had two goals to counter Ovechkin’s pair. The Jets kicked off a four game road trip against the Predators. Craig Smith would be the overtime hero and benefactor of a Dustin Byfuglien turnover giving the Preds a 3-2 win. After two heartbreaking losses, the Jets found the win column again edging the Dallas Stars 2-1 in a shootout. Captain Andrew Ladd had the lone shootout goal. The NHL’s best team, Colorado Avalanche, hosted the Jets and rallied in the third period for a 3-2 win. Avs forward Paul Stastny capitalized on some sloppy defensive play by the Jets for the winner. Two nights later, Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom would take a late penalty against the St. Louis Blues which led to Alexander Steen scoring the winner with only 59 seconds left to play. The Jets would fly back home only to have the defending Stanley Cup champions waiting for them. Hometown hero Jonathan Toews led the Hawks to a 5-1 win. The Winnipeg Jets have little time to right the ship as their next five opponents are from the Western Conference. The Jets sit 13th in the West with a 5-8-2 record.

The Filipino Journal has been working with our kababayans who have encountered problems in housing, job hunting, in writing a will and in dealing with some agencies where they want to bring a petition and complain about rental housing and other problems with the landlords. Currently, we are doing a follow-up with the Provincial Attorney General and the City of Winnipeg on the compliance of the landlord, part of the recommendations by the Residential Tenancy Commission on case brought up by the tenants at the Simcoe apartments. The tenants won their appeal and the 17 tenants received a refund of $1,705 each. We are also working with some tenants in a Sherbrook apartment who present an appeal against the landlord's application for the apartment ecxcessive rental increase starting this coming month. We learned that some tenants have been paying the new rent without the approval of the Residential Tenancies Branch. We do accompany some of our kababayans to help communicate with the personnel in the tenancy office. (My advise to our kababayan, you have the right to appeal if the rental increase is not justified. Give yourself a time to appeal and to attend the hearing. This is your right. Huwag kayong matakot.(

Dito, pantay-pantay tayo.) Of late, we got a call from a company's owner to help his contract worker who has no relatives or "kakillala" in Winnipeg to find a rooming house or a room for rent. The contract worker had been living in a hotel since his arrival and the owner could not afford the nightly rate. At first we guided the person how to use the transit system. And we brought him to some Filipino events to meet other kababayans. He met some Filipinos who came from the same town where he lived before. And we were able to find a house with a room for rent n the Westend. His monthly payment is almost half of the hotel rate. And many kababayans who want the service of the lawyer are increasing and we are able to recommend our kababayan to help and advise their legal needs. And many bagong datings have been asking some information about job opportunities, credentials and other professional requirements. The Filipino Journal is always willing and ready to help.. Megan Young meets scary accident in Haiti
Miss World 2013 Megan Young miraculously escaped injury when she figured in an accident while visiting an orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti on Thursday, October 31. Young and Miss World chairman Julia Morley visited 78 children who were having their class on the second floor of the orphanage. The floor of the temporary building collapsed when around 20 children rushed toward Young when they saw her in her crown. Morley and Young fell through the floor, which was eight to ten feet above the ground.
According to the Miss World website, Young managed to walk out unharmed but Morley suffered fractures and had to be taken by ambulance to Miami for more than 5 hours of operation. The website added that one of the children, Jonathan, suffered fractures after falling through the floor and being hit by the debris from above. The other children escaped either unhurt or with just cuts and bruises. Morley and Jonathan are safe now safe and just needed some rest and therapy. Meanwhile, Young has returned to the US to be with her family.
Tom Rodriguez says ‘MHL’ taught him many things
As one of the lead roles in the GMA Network’s “My Husband’s Lover,” actor Tom Rodriguez considers the hit television drama series a big lesson in life and acting. The Fil-Am actor and reality TV contestant said. MHL taught him acceptance of oneself, acceptance of others, and acceptance of things that cannot be controlled or changed. Tom admitted that he was initially intimidated by the role of a married man who keeps a secret gay romance. Later he realized that MHL would help change people’s perspectives about the cause being advanced by gays and lesbians in Philippine society.
All photos & articles available online!
Tom also hinted that after MHL which aired its last episode on Oc. 18, he wants to do something different so as to avoid typecasting. Currently the US-trained graphic artist-turnedserye star has reunited with boxoffice director Wenn Deramas in the upcoming “Bekikang.” There are films as well lined up for the 26-year-old Tom, including a romance comedy in 2014 with costar Carla Abellana, who played her wife in MHL. In the comedy-drama “Bekikang,” Tom doesn’t play gay but a guy named Fortunato who gets a Japan-bound OFW pregnant. The baby ends up with Vittorio (played by Joey Paras) who falls in love with him.

Tom was born in Olongapo City and grew up in Catbalogan, Samar, with his FilipinoAmerican parents, before the family migrated to the US. He returned to the Philippines and took part in the reality show, “Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up.” Later he was signed up by ABS-CBN where he made his television debut in “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: My Cheating Heart.”

Horoscope Be careful about talking a work flirtation to the next level Aries – you know it’s shady territory to combine business with pleasure. Friction from other coworkers and also living your personal life out on display isn’t exactly easy. Money flow would be smooth enabling you to handle family expenses. Stable energies would prevail through the day.
Pay attention to family relationship as some disturbances are likely. You are more perceptive than usual. You see other people’s true colors with clarity, and you may discover a secret or the hidden aspect of some situation. This is a good time to look at where your money is going so that you can better allocate your resources.
You will manage to make your mark on the professional front, since you have the communication skills and all you need is thorough knowledge about your field. Don’t be hasty in taking important decisions in your personal life. Chances of meeting a celebrity are on the cards today. A chance encounter with someone you love will prove most exciting.
PAHALANG
Both gains and expenses would occur in monetary affairs. Family may put pressure on you to take a break from work for a vacation. Your career, reputation, and most important personal goals receive a boost now, primarily through your own initiative and willingness to assert you. You feel a surge of positive energy. Exercise caution as discord is likely to surface in affairs of personal relationship.
Be open to constructive criticism today Leos – both giving it and receiving it. While it’s never fun to have to listen to someone point out your faults, it can be very helpful if it is done the right way. And vice versa. Career related travel marks the day. Maintain restraint in spending as finances are not very smooth. Ups and downs are likely to be seen at personal relationship.
Neglecting professional or academic front may prove most unfavorable. You may get ticked for your extravagant ways. Auspicious occasions in family would soar spirits. Money flow would be encouraging. Someone you are attracted to is likely to surprise you by making the first move!
Creative thinking and innovative ideas are key issues now. You are mentally alert and keen, able to absorb new ideas very quickly, and less resistant to new information than usual. This is a time to explore scientific and technological ideas and inventive, progressive, innovative perspectives in any area.
A family member may be at persuasive best to motivate you to buy a luxury item for him or her. A misunderstanding threatens to cost you a cozy evening out with lover. Condition of someone close will show signs of improvement. Don’t take chances with health. Money flow would be abundant. As stress in indicated in career, due attention is required to prevent negative effects.
This is the time to establish good relationships between yourself and a parent. Don’t continue to handle difficult tasks alone. For a day or so you may be under pressure to start new projects or finance situations that require spending a bit of money. It may seem quite urgent, but it’s a time when everything seems a bit more intense, so you may do well to stand back and take a second look before jumping in with both feet.
It’s important to question authority figures in order to be valuable to them, but today is not the day for major doubt. The people around you know more than you do, which is probably why they are asking you to take on more responsibilities. The only way to truly comprehend your abilities is to use them. Health would be affected owing to hypertension and anxiety. Overall, it is a balanced day.
Explaining things in detail to a superior will help in clearing a misunderstanding at work. Your involvement in organizing a function or an event will be much appreciated. Both expenses and gains mark the finances for the day. Beneficial results will be enjoyed at personal relationship. Fine health is visible. It would be a day filled with busy schedules.
A surprise awaits you today. It will catch you totally off guard. There are no more details about this one or it won’t be a surprise. The essence of exercise is that it should not exhaust you, but should reinvigorate and leave your stronger for the effort. So it is with life. Children`s lack of progress would be matter of concern. The day would ensure stable energies.

"Ysabel: Comfort Woman" helps break the silence on sexual slavery last WW II "The play, "Ysabel: Comfort Woman" even an excerpt, has given us understanding on the sexual abuse in Asia during the 2nd world war; how young women were abducted and forcibly abused, and suffered afterwards without the formal apology and compensation from the Japan government,"said by one of the women who attended the forum where Cristina Rosello, a clinicl psychologist; and Lola Fedencia David, an 86-year old survivor last October 17 at PCCM. "And these actors especially Dutchess Cayetano who played as young Yzabel gave us such power to continue learning, to continue to work hard to eliminate sexual abuses against women and children." "The play made me cry," another guest commented."I think, the message is strong! It breaks the silence of sexual abuse for many decades." Written by Winnipeg playwright Rod Escobar Cantiveros and directed by Nena Joy Laud Lazo, "Ysabel: Comfort Woman" is presented an excerpt from a 90-min play which will be staged to coincide with the opening of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Nena Joy Laud Lazo, the director, collaborated with the playwright for this special presentation. In 2005, Joy also directed this play which was
premiered in the 2005 Winnipeg International Fringe Theatre Festival. When the directoral job was offered again to Nena Joy Laud Lazo, she never hesitated to be involved with the play. The excerpt of the play has been well-accepted by the audience and it touched the very hearts and souls of those who attended the forum sponsored by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, led by Clint Curle, head, stakeholders relations; and Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre headed by Dr. Joseph Du. The five actors had worked hard to internalize the roles as guided and directed by a director who is considered as one of the best directors in the Filipino community, Nena Joy Laud Lazo. The husband and wife team, Florencio and Letty Antonio, together with Gloria Magpali, have been involved in the Philippine Theatre Winnipeg (Teatro Filipino). Tony and Letty Antonio and Gloria Magpali led the cast of "Sunset in Canada", a play on senior abuse. This play was presented by ICAPEA; Gloria's debut was another major lead in "Quest For A Money Tree", a play on senior addiction in slot machine, a play commissioned by Addiction Foundation of Manitoba. Letty took the role of a survivor comfort woman who had been carried away by
her outstanding performance. Gloria's energy has accepted the truth hiding behind the suffering of her daughter. The senior Ruben, played by Tony, added the poignant acceptance in spite of Yzabel's horrendous experience as comfort woman. The last two plays were also written by Rod E. Cantiveros and directed by Nena Joy Laud Lazo. Dutchess Cayetano, another talented young Filipino Canadian who wants to be an architect, has shown her great talent as her debut performance on a legit theatre. Her performance has succeeded to let people engage and cry, attesting her total creative energy has given justice to the role of Young Ysabel. A promising actor, indeed! Mike Arquero is a big surprise to take the role of young Ruben. When he was offered
the role, he did not hesitate and accepted the challenge. Being his debut on the legit stage, his dedication to perfect his role has been rewarded. He plans to visit the Philippines and try his luck in the field of entertainment. As a chemical engineering grad, Mike

finds a new way how to make a good chemistry with other actors. The play indeed brings the evils of slavery and war at the front and centre, for us to learn and understand the issues, especially, the current surge of abuses against women and children.

Lola Fidencia David breaks the silence of the wartime rape and promotes human rights against wartime rape, human trafficking... This is the story that everyone wants to hear. “It was a very painful experience and every time I think of what the Japanese soldiers did to me, I cry,” Lola Fidencia David said with tears in her eyes. As she recalled, her grandmother and herself were raped: “My grandmother was led to another room. Inside the room where I was taken, a Japanese soldier came and tied my mouth with a cloth and raped me. I resisted but he bumped by head against the wall and I lost consciousness. After that, there were other Japanese who raped me, My grandmother was killed and when I tried to hide, a soldier followed and raped me in the grass.” Lola Fidencia added, through a translator. In a three-day whirlwind visit to Winnipeg, Lola Fidencia David, the 86-year old Filipina survivor, has spoken to break the silence of the human rights violation during the 2nd world war in the Philippines. And the Winnipeggers listened and responded. “Breaking the silence about human rights violations is essential for healing and growing: for the global community as well as for the victims,” Canadian Museum for Human Rights president and CEO Stuart Muray said. “And this is a story of inspiration. By facing the past and learning its lessons, we help shine a light on human rights abuses that continue today, including wartime rape and human trafficking of women for sexual exploitation. The CMHR is committed to encouraging reflection and dialogue about these important subjects,” Stuart added. “It is important to keep talking about the “comfort women” because military sexual violence is still happening today. The better we can understand the persistent patterns of sexual violence, the better we can promote human rights now,” Dr. Clint Curle, head, Stakeholders Relation, CMHR.
Accompanied by Cristina Lope Rosello, a UP graduate, a clinical psychologist and author of the book “Disconnect: The Filipino Comfort Women, Lola Fedencia David , by sharing her personal story has given a deeper dimension on the hardship and struggles of young Filipino women during the outbreak of war in the Philippines. In a forum held at the PCCM, Rosello said: “What I am fighting for is the postwar damage during the more than fifty years of silence. This is not covered by the San Francisco Treaty but during the 50 plus years after the war, the Filipino comfort women would suffer from psychological trauma, economic problems and social stigma. And we must also underscore the fact that unlike other comfort women in Asia, the Filipina abduction and sexual captivity was part of the war strategy to annihilate the enemies. We were a US colony at that time. To flush the fierce guerillas from hiding, they destroyed the womenfolk. It is horrible and this makes it a crime.” The Canadian Museum for Human Rights has organized the visit to Canada by one of the living survivors of military sexual slavery during the 2nd World War in Asia. And Dr. Clint Curle organized the lectures and events with the assistance of the Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre and its president Dr. Joseph Du, Rod and Ron Cantiveros of the Filipino Journal; Dr. Tina Chen of the University of Manitoba and Malinda Lee. At the PCCM forum, the excerpt of the play “Ysabel: Comfort Women” written by Rod E. Cantiveros, directed by Nena Joy Laud Lazo, was staged and acted by Letty and Florencio Antonio, Dutchess Cayetano, Gloria Magpali and Mike Arquero. When asked by a member of the audience in regards to the compensation, Cristina Rosello answered: “The case of
compensation is a lost cause. The only recourse is to compel the Philippine gov’t to deal with the Japanese government but they will not do that.” She had said that the current Pres. Noynoy Aquino has no intention to open the case; and some non-government organizations are not united to fight for the cause. Then some activist groups have become fragmented at some point losng their credibility. At the panel discussion, Sexual Violence Against Women in War and Conflict, Cristina Rosello and other speakers highlighted sexual violence against women during the war time and the present. “My passion and support for this cause is through my creative activism as impacted in the live stage performance of the excerpt from Ysabel Comfort Women. It is my hope to help raise more awareness and support for the women victims (sex slaves) during the 2nd world war and to join in the cumulative efforts of other organizations that are against these atrocities of any form being committed against women and children then and more so, now”, Nena Joy Laud Lazo, a UST graduate and a member of the Canadian Actor’s Equity, said during the forum on women issues held at Canton Food Gallery sponsored by the Filipino Journal. Tina Chen, U of M history professor, Angela Cassie of CMHR and Lazo are the panelists. Cristina, a clinical psychologist who helps empower former “comfort women” deal with their trauma, regain their dignity, and become effective spokesperson for women’s right and Lola Fidencia, have both shared their experiences. During the tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Lola Fidencia David said: “This is the most beautiful place I’d ever seen....I had visited many foreign cities, but here in Winnipeg, this museum is the best. Dito ba sa museum na ito madidinig ang aking kasaysayan bilang comfort woman?
(Is this the place where my story as a comfort woman will be heard?) At the panel discussion on sexual violence against women in war and conflict at the University of Manitoba Law School buidling, Cristina Rosello and Lola Fidencia David shared with other speakers who expounded human rights violations against women in Africa and Asia. Tina Chen, U of M history professor led the panel discussion. And at the very end of the forum and interviews, Lola Fidencia would say:. “Sa Philippines, hindi kami nakakatanggap ng support bilang mga biktima, pero dito sa Winnipeg at Toronto, sa Canada, asikasung-asikaso kami. Maraming
salamat sa lahat ng inyoong tulong at kagandahang loob. Salamat Canada”. (In the Philippines, the plight of the comfort women have not given this kind of attention. We are very grateful for the kind and generous reception and support given to us during our visit to Winnipeg, Toronto. Thank you very much Canada.) The CMHR recorded the interviews with Cristina and Lola Fidencia and will become a part of its collection of human rights oral histories. As Dr. Curle said: The interview will be available at the museum archives when it opens next year.”

The remaining activities slated for the year were also announced. The presentations highlighted the many gains achieved by the
organization this year. Notably, UPAA-MB’s membership increased by 44% this year, with a potential increase of 25% in 2014. The organization’s fund raising activities through the Flapjack Breakfast Fundraiser and the Healthy Isko Lifestyle Challenge helped generate sufficient funds for the organization, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle among members. This bolstered the organization’s scholarship program intended to support the
academic pursuits of deserving Filipino-Canadians. UPAA-MB’s community outreach to help Winnipeg’s less fortunate was commended by Siloam Mission. Information and communication activities raised the profile of the organization and the Filipino community in Manitoba. Finally, the report on the UPAA-MB survey regarding organizational activities was well received as its results would be useful in planning for future activities. The event culminated in the presentation and acceptance of new associate members and the election
of the new Board of Directors for 2014, which was facilitated by the Elections Ad hoc Committee. The new associate members of the organization are: Macy Mailom, Janine Quijano and Lisa McLaughlin-Moar. The new members of the UPAA-MB Board of Directors for 2014 are the following: Chairperson – Ramon Faustino Sales, Jr., Secretary – Sarah Anne Gonzales, Treasurer – Arlene Licardo-Lontoc, Head, Fund Raising Committee – Dominique Anne Mailom, Head, Information and Communications – Jeusa Raflores, Head, Membership Committee – Jullie May Villafania, Head, Social Responsibility – Paulo Fabian The new set of officers will formally assume office on January 1, 2014. The UPAA-MB annual newsletter, which sums up this year’s activities, was distributed during the assembly (the newsletter is available on www.upmb.net). As the UPAA-MB members celebrate memorable successes this year, they are also setting their sights on reaching new milestones for the organization in the year ahead.
Lend a hand to the Burrows Resource Centre
F
or six years, the Burrows Resource Centre, located at 1100 College Ave., has been proving programming to the people in the Burrows Central neighbourhood. These resources include after-school programs for children in the area, such as a weekly kid’s crafts. However, Jessica Isidro, chair/program coordinator of the Burrows Central Residents Council, the organization that operates the centre, said the building is in jeopardy of closing its doors because of financial constraints. “We can’t keep the doors open without help from the community.” Isidro, who grew up in the area, said one of the financial issues with the centre is they have no annual funding since they’re a non-profit. In addition, because of their location they don’t qualify for a lot of external funding. The annual operational costs alone, which includes hydro, electricity and insurance, is $18,000. This is further complicated by the fact the building is owned by the City of Winnipeg. “It has been difficult because we have to meet the city standards … we can’t just fix things on our own,” said Isidro. Michael Sugawara, area resident and board vice-chair said another issue is disinterest from the adults in the community. “The first time I visited [the centre] the kids outnumbered the adults 4:1.” However, Sugawara would like to see a change in this dynamic.

Although the centre does provide a lot of programming towards the neighbourhood children, Sugawara said it offers a lot more services, such as assistance for newcomers and seniors. “We want the centre to live up to the name of “resource” centre for the community,” he said. The Residents Council is hoping that their upcoming concert fundraiser on Wednesday, November 13 at the Park Theatre will help with their struggling building. The concert will feature local talents R&B singer Flo, acapella group, “Those Guys” and will be hosted by Chrissy Troy from the Ace Burpee Show. Councillor Mike Pagtakhan, who is an honorary board member, is also providing support to the concert. While Isidro and Sugawara want to raise $3000 from the concert, they hope that it will also gain awareness and will get people interested in the centre. “Our main source of revenue is using the centre as a rental space. We hope to engage people into using it for things like family gatherings or cotillion practices,” said Sugawara. Advance tickets are $10 and $15 at the door, which opens at 7 p.m. If you’re not able to attend, but would like to support this cause, you can still buy ticket(s). Market Burger’s Filipino Tocino Alternative Investment Options for your RRSP, RESP and Other Locked-In Retirement Accounts Burger in support of Philippine a Certified General retirement. Until 2012, I only of the high costs associated with earthquake relief (CGA), I directed my RRSPs into mutual acquiring capital via these avenues. AsAccountant sometimes get asked by family and friends, “Where should I invest to get the best returns? My portfolio is not performing well and I am wondering if there are other options besides GICs or mutual funds?” Most people have admitted to me they have lost confidence in the stock market and lost money during the 2008-2009 global financial market meltdowns. Although we may have broad knowledge of investment or insurance products and its tax treatments, most CGAs are not Certified Financial Planners or Licenced Financial Advisors therefore it is important to develop a strong working relationship with a financial advisor. As an investor myself, I too get stumped by these questions and have traditionally only invested my RRSPs in the public markets. Having lost confidence in my own portfolio, my search to find answers has led me to discover alternative investment options which most of us are unaware even exist. Like most of you, I have learned overtime and by experience, the best investment strategy is a ‘well-balanced portfolio’. “Do not put your all eggs in one basket”, as the saying goes… you should “Diversify”. I try to save for emergencies, a special trip or big purchase, and of course, set aside for my
funds. In 2013, I joined Blueprint Global Partners (Blueprint) as their Corporate Controller and was exposed to private placements. As an average investor, I now know I have options which enable me to invest directly into successful businesses outside of GICs and mutual funds, often providing strong returns for my hard earned money. I was thrilled to discover private placements! Private placements are regulated by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), who also regulates the Mutual Fund Industry and Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). Retail investors, like us, can “invest directly” in companies with tangible assets like, shopping centres, retail office spaces, condominiums, equipment leasing, energy and gas, and many more. These companies are now turning to the private market to raise capital and staying away from the stock market because
Tandem Assets Limited Partnership, a Blueprint client, use pooled investor monies to purchase commercial properties at a discount which have the potential for market value appreciation over time. Tandem offers investors 6% fixed annual interest with year profit participation top up over 5 years. Profit participation is an additional incentive that mutual funds do not offer. The President of Tandem, Marcin Drozdz, states “Private placements are a good addition to an investor’s portfolio as they are not correlated to the volatility of the public markets.” While you might be unfamiliar with private placements, I encourage you to do your research and speak to a financial professional familiar with these types of investments. You owe it to yourself to learn about all your investment options and make an informed decision for you and your family.

Dictatorship sans martial law
O
n September 21, 1972, then President Ferdinand E. Marcos declared a craftily designed – nay, conjured -- martial law; thus began an authoritarian regime that lasted 14 years until it ended in an attempted coup d’etat that morphed into a successful “people power” revolution. Another coup d’etat that was promoted as a “people power” revolution ousted then President Joseph “Erap” Estrada in 2001, which brought his vice president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, to power. For the next nine years, Gloria ruled with a tight grip on the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The only body that she couldn’t control was the Senate. Man of destiny Then came Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, a lackluster senator, who suddenly found himself in the limelight upon the death of his mother Cory Aquino -- the wife of the martyr Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. -- who was catapulted to the presidency in the aftermath of the EDSA people power revolution in 1986. The only son of Ninoy and Cory, Noynoy was bandied about as a “man of destiny.” Regrettably, while Cory remained “iconic” until her death on August 1, 2009, democracy never took hold after the ouster of the dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos. EDSA was nothing more than a transitory event that bridged the oligarchic rule of Marcos to the oligarchic rule of Cory. But, curiously, one had to look up the “social registry” of the country’s elite to realize that while the president was replaced, the same people played the field, plundering the treasury – or whatever was left of it -- with gusto. And now, 27 years after that momentous passage from an authoritarian regime to a democratic regime, things didn’t change much. As a wise man once said, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” Indeed, the Philippine economic landscape changed and pronouncements of growth abound. The ruling elite is celebrating; the Philippines is no longer the “Sick Man of Asia,” they say. While that might be true from their lofty standpoint, it is not what the suffering people -- masang tao -- feel. And underneath all that hyperbole about an “emerging Asian tiger,” the people remain in a perpetual state of bondage. Scandals galore And it is in this context that the administration of P-Noy -- short for “President Noy” -- as Aquino wants to be called, is going through a conglomeration of scandals and anomalies involving lawmakers, Cabinet officials, members of the Judiciary, military officers, local government officials, scam operators, and non-government

organizations (NGOs). Never in the history of the nation had so many people been caught in a web of corruption that was spun to snare billions of pesos from pork barrel allocations. With the Supreme Court’s issuance of a temporary restraining order (TRO) stopping further disbursement of pork barrel funds, known officially as Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), the Aquino administration continues to use the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), which was created without any congressional authorization. In a speech before the Philippine Constitution Association on October 24, 2013, former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said: “Recently, a newly minted program named Disbursement Acceleration Program or DAP, which the DBM [Department of Budget and Management] claims to be in existence since 2011, surprised everyone, including myself and all the senators and congressmen, both active and retired. “Further, DBM has claimed that the P50 million to P100 million in additional pork barrel allocations to most senators after the conviction of the former chief justice in May 2012 came from DAP, funded by savings in 2011, or what is termed in the GAA as Unused Appropriations amounting to P238.8B. When we speak of Unused Appropriations, it consists of two items, namely (a) Unreleased Appropriations (P79.6B) and (b) Unobligated Allotments (P159.2B).” P700-billion piggy bank Lacson also disclosed that P-Noy had P700 billion at his disposal in 2012, which was the same year when Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was impeached and found guilty of culpable violation of the Constitution. P-Noy insisted that the DAP is not pork barrel and claimed it as his “economic stimulus package,” which he created to increase government spending; thus, stimulating growth. In all appearances, the DAP is an illegal extension of PDAF used to funnel “savings” from budget items and released to lawmakers as extra pork. But since DAP doesn’t exist in the eyes of Congress, DAP evades congressional scrutiny. Yet, the recipients of DAP funds are members of Congress themselves! It is interesting to note that the Supreme Court had refused to issue a TRO against the DAP, an action – or inaction – that “pork watchers” criticized. If PDAF were bad enough to warrant a TRO, why didn’t the high court issue a TRO against the DAP, which is far worse than the PDAF?
FilipinoJournal. com
November 5-20, 2013
One of the “pork watchers,” seasoned columnist Emil Jurado, made an observation, which he shared in his column, “Is the President virtual dictator?” He wrote: “With the House of Representatives ruled by the administration majority under Speaker Sonny Belmonte, and Senate President Frank Drilon acting like an extension of Malacañang protecting the President from allegations of abuse and misuse of public funds, with the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, and with most junior anti-graft court Justice Amparo CabotajeTang as Presiding Justice of Sandiganbayan, the President now appears to rule over the three branches of government.” Dictatorial powers With the Senate, House of Representatives, Supreme Court, and Sandiganbayan clearly under his control, P-Noy exercises dictatorial powers no President in Philippine history had attained before. Indeed, P-Noy achieved what Marcos didn’t; that is, dictatorship sans martial law. As a matter of record, P-Noy has a free hand in redirecting his discretionary funds – amounting to more than 50% of the national budget to projects and programs of his choice without authorization from Congress. In effect, P-Noy has created a humongous piggy bank that he can use any which way he wants. He is like a spoiled brat who always gets what he wants. And poor mother Filipinas, she couldn’t do anything to stop him from squandering public funds. The generals Other sources of P-Noy’s discretionary fund are the Malampaya Fund, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and other state funds. Recently, retired Brig. Gen. Rosalino Alquiza, former President of the Association of Generals and Flag Officers (AGFO) said that there is a consensus among members of the military that all government accounts should be deposited in the National Treasury and subjected to the budgetary process. Officials of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association (PMAAA) also weighed in on the pork barrel scandal. The association’s chairman, retired Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Reyes said that members of the PMAAA share the sentiment of Alquiza. However, P-Noy was unruffled by the retired generals’ call for him to give up his pork. And by the looks of it, surrender is not in his vocabulary. But with the retired military officers encroaching into his turf, P-Noy might just draw the gun on them… with the aid of his loyal Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin who many believe has the respect of active generals. At the end of the day, while P-Noy may now be enjoying dictatorship sans martial law, a martial law sans dictatorship might be in the works at the barracks. Heaven forbid!

yelashes are such a big thing in the market now that everyone is wearing them. Especially with so many different styles out now, you can even wear them for a full day. PROVICI’S lashes are made of 100% human hair and come in a range of styles from natural to dramatic. What’s even better is that they are reusable. Lashes help to make your eyes stand out more and can make them appear bigger. They are great for special occasions and show up really well for pictures. Especially if you have short or sparse lashes you can thicken them or lengthen them if you use false eye lashes. They can be applied very easily using a pair of tweezers and PROVICI’S She Gloo, which comes in black or clear. Before you apply the false eye lashes, you want to ensure that they are the right length for your eyes. That can be a common mistake on why the lashes aren’t going on properly. You want to cut from the outer corner, because the inner corners have shorter hair and you don’t want to cut that off. There should be a little space at the inner corner of the eye so that the false lash hair doesn’t stick into your eyes. Lashes are usually the last step in your makeup process. You want all your eye shadows, liner and mascara already on. Tia’s image-consulting firm, PROVICI, has attracted a loyal following in the entertainment and business communities. She has recently styled individuals for print media and live entertainment, and for awards shows such as the Junos and the Grammys. Check out Tia on Shaw TV channel 9 on Tuesday evenings, and Wednesdays before noon. Kung meron kayong questions, comments or suggestions send an e-mail to tia@provici.com. She welcomes your questions and is available for personal appointments. Just log onto www.provici.com or visit Tia at PROVICI Cosmetics, now located at 214 McDermot Ave. or call (204) 957-1544 for more info.
Step 1
Cloudine’s Side French Braid Bun
Customize the lash length First hold the lashes up to your eyes and line them up from the inner corner, towards the outer corner. Remember to leave a bit space from the inner corner and whatever is flowing over past the outer corner of the eye you will want to count the hairs to know how much to cut off. Sometimes they will fit perfectly though, and you won’t need to cut.
A braid is an easy way to change your look. This French braid pulls the long hair from one side and creates a stylish bun at the back. Take the outside portion and gently pull out braid to give it more of a fuller look.
Step 3
Apply to the eye, corners first
Then with your eye closed or head tiled backwards eyes looking down, holding the lash with your tweezers you want to line it up to your eye before placing down. Then place the lash spine as close you can against Luscious Lashes your lash line. Place it down first, then pick up your tweezers and tack down The PROVICI lashes are reusable. It’s not the inner corner and outer corners. a good to apply mascara to the false lashes
unless you’re only using them for one time only because otherwise the false lashes will hold bacteria from the mascara. To remove the lashes at the end of the night just lift from the outer corner and peel inwards. Then remove all eye makeup.
Step 2
Step 1 Step 3
Part the front portion of your hair so that one side has more hair than the other. Begin your French braid on the heavier side and continue to incorporate more hair going down towards the opposite ear.
Step 4
Begin to take the braid and form a bun on the side. Use bobby pins where necessary to secure into place and tuck the end of the brain into the bun. Spray for hold.
HAVE FUN! Remember practice makes perfect.
Apply glue to the lash
Take your tube of glue and squeeze a little bit out till it spills over the side of the tube. Then holding the lashes with your tweezers you will want to drag the spine of the lash along the glue getting a nice thin line along the lash. Make sure to get the ends with the glue as well so they won’t lift once applied.
The Finished Look
Step 3
Blend the spine with your liner
It won’t take long to dry, about 10 seconds. Then do the other eye. Once both eyes have the lashes on, you can go over the false eye lash spine with your liner again to help it blend all together.

Once you have reached the other side, finish off the braid as far to the end as possible and tie off the ends.
Clean and Elegant
That’s all there is to it. With a bit of practice, this braid is easy to master and will not only lift your hair up, but will do it with a look of elegance.
