CANADA VOTES ON OCTOBER 21 Jaina Antazo is one of the over 4 million who voted in advance polls for the 2019 Canadian federal election. Together with her husband Nico and sons Arkien and Apollo, they hit the advance poll last October 12.

Jaina shared that this is her first time to vote in advance hoping that it would be faster and less of a hassle. Contrary to what she thought, there was a long line up that she had to endure before she could cast her ballot. But she did not mind knowing that the voting schedule got affected by the winter storm. More importantly, she knew that it would be worth the wait to exercise her right to vote and support the party whom she believes can give her family a better future. On October 21st, Canada will once again vote. Like the Antazo’s,your hope for a better Canada and a better future lies in your hands. So go out and let your vote count.

The Power of Dance

Dances of Filipino Heart and Soul is scheduled to tour in Montreal and other parts of an unsurpassed level with Canada and the US. three decades of awards and recognitions while its founder, Douglas Nierras, continue to work his life-long mission which is to educate the people and the future dance artists in the Philippines through Choreography Clinics and Scholarship Program.

Philippine’s Premiere Dance Company in modern, jazz and show dance, Douglas Nierras Powerdance, performed before the Winnipeg audience last October 5 at the Maples Collegiate.

The show titled Dances of Filipino Heart and Soul (Mga Sayaw ng Puso at Kaluluwa) is created, choreographed and directed by the multi-awarded Powerdance founder himself, Douglas Nierras.

It is not your ordinary showcase of traditional folk dances as Nierras aims to give the audience a different experience and show what it is like to live now in the Philippines.

Through intense choreography interflowing powerful music, compelling emotions, and modern visual technology, Powerdance

was undoubtedly successful in communicating each act to the audience, leaving everybody in awe.

The show had 2 Acts which included performances inspired by social issues and Nierras’ personal stories and endeavours.

The show started with a backgrounder of him through a feature with the show “Pipol.”

Nierras also shared through a video interactive a flashback on how Powerdance, then Hotlegs, started when founded in 1988.

In the act “Yolanda,” Nierras shared his own experience on how the super typhoon left his hometown, Tacloban, devastated when it hit the Philippines 6 years ago.

“Contemplaciones Sobre Una Flor Filipina,” on the otherhand, depicted the challenges of the overseas Filipino workers.

Other acts talked about different kinds of love which were soul-stirring, leaving the audience sentimental.

Winnipeg Jets opens 2019-20 Season

T

he Winnipeg Jets opened the 2019-20 season at Bell MTS Place with a big 5-2 against the rival Minnesota Wild and a rock & roll light show as the Jets were introduced in the pre-game ceremonies to the sell out crowd. The Jets opened the season with 4-game road trip that saw the club with 2-2 record. The two wins against the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-1) and a shootout win against the New Jersey Devils (5-

4). The win against the Penguins is the first game the Jets have won on the road was the first franchise victory since 2006.

In the home opener against the Wild, Patrik Laine scored two goals and helped with two assists. Currently, Laine is tied for second in the NHL with 11 points - 3 goals, 8 assists in seven games and recently announced as the league's Second Star of the Week.

McDavid and Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby were named the other Stars of the Week.

The Jets flew into Chicago for a quick road trip overtime win against the Blackhawks and came back to Winnipeg to host a 5-game home stand. The opened the homestand with two consecutive losses to the Pittsburgh Penguins (7-1) and Arizona Coyotes (4-2).

The Jets homestand continues with the New York Islanders,

Edmonton Oilers and LA Kings before they take to the ice in the Heritage Classic in Regina against the Calgary Flames on Saturday, October 26.

Five local singers including resident anthem singer, Stacey Natrass Brown capped the

opening ceremonies with the singing of the US and Canadian national anthems. The following anthem singers will be taking the stage throughout the upcoming season - Ashley Klimpke, Beverley Wynne, Evan Rogalsky and Sarah Baxter.

Are you ready to vote on October 21, Tuesday?

O

ne of the privileges of being a Canadian is to participate in electing those candidates who are seeking to serve the country in general and to their constituency in particular,is to balance and weigh the impact of the various political issues affecting our lives in Canada.

To vote is a legal right, and your chance to elect or re-elect a candidate whom you know will serve and work for the interest of public, as a member of the Parliament in Ottawa.

Voting, in the strict sense of civic responsibility is your gesture to be a part of this unique democratic process.

I’ve been a volunteer for the door-to-door campaign and a phone caller during the civic, provincial and federal elections.

And for many decades, I have had exposed myself to explain why you have to vote for this candidate. And why your vote is very important.

These are what some “nonvoters” or those who do not want to vote say, “ Sorry, I’m too busy and I do not have time to vote.

Anyway, my vote does not matter.

Same people will be elected.” And from some of our kababayans, “May overtime ako, babayaran ba ng kandidato mo ang per oras ko?” Another reason: “ I’m baby sitting, I can’t leave, next time I will try.” One old man told me: “All candidates are the same, all of them get big salaries. Me, what do I get, minimum wage? I do not want to contribute to their inefficiency.” And I did laugh when a senior told me: “Iho, I do not want to miss the teleserye!”

And the worst: “Even without my vote, same people win.” One time, I went to an apartment and the man told me: “Look, I came from a corrupt country, and did vote for many elections, what happened? More corruptions.

No good to vote.” I said: “This is Canada and this country is different from yours.” Firmed and decided: “Sorry, I will not vote.”

Voting takes little time and at the same time, you share your voice in the secret ballot. And thru the ages, many inspiring quotations were written to give the voters an inspiration to exercise their legal rights to vote, and I do hope that the following inspiring voting quotations will

serve as a push or an act to enjoy few minutes of glory as a concerned citizen who will take part in his or her own choice to be counted.

Here are some inspiring quotations for you to vote: John Ensign writes: “I believe that voting is the final act of building a community as well as building a country.” And one must be challenged by what John F. Kennedy once said, “The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.” This is a mouthful wisdom by Jens Stoltenberg: “By voting, we add our voices to the chorus that forms opinions and the basis for actions.” Watch what Abraham Lincoln emphasizes: “The ballot is stronger than a bullet.”

And take this seriously, what George Carlin writes: “If you don’t vote, you lose your right to complain.”

And what does Roald Dahl mean when he wrote: “Somewhere inside of all of us is the power to change the world.” So powerful, Indeed!

How about Charles M. Blow said: “Voter apathy is a civic abdication!” Naomi Klein writes: “Democracy is not just the right to vote, it is the right to live in dignity.” Right on, Ms. Klein. And how about what Joseph J. Haeggquist wants to point out when he said: “Ten men will control ten thousand who choose to remain silent.”

So powerful for it strikes our weakness just to be standby and unwilling to be a part of the action: to vote! And by general understanding the role of a voter, Abraham Lincoln says: “Election belongs to the people!”

Added to these inspiring quotations to vote is what Loung Ung says: “Voting is not only our right, it is our power!”

And from me: “ Voting is like throwing a pebble on a quiet river, giving you the countless ripples of silent voices.”

And again, are you ready to vote on Tuesday, October 21?

Are you ready to be a part of community building as well as building a country for you and for your children’s children?

Are you ready to be a part of the majority to voice your own opinion in a ballot box?

he snowstorm that lasted for three days caused piles of wet snow, downed many trees and power lines that led to road issues and many accidents. Many families had to endure days without power to cook hot meals and to warm homes.

While many were feeling stressed and finding hard to cope with the challenge brought about by the nasty weather condition, Edison Garcia and Dante Cruz kept their cool and made themselves available for anyone who will need help. Edison and Dante are both part of the Bayanihan sa Winnipeg. Edison started the group six months ago. It is a network of Winnipeggers who are willing to provide help to anyone especially to the most vulnerable in the city.

On the first day of the snowstorm, Edison helped two people who needed to jump start their cars. “It was also the day of my third interview for a job I had been aspiring for,”said Edison. “Normally after I have helped someone, I just forget about it. I don’t expect anything in return. But that day something good happened to me, I got accepted for the job. After that, there were more requests for our help. Those were three vey busy days for Dante and me.”

Edison started the Bayanihan sa Winnipeg to continue what he was doing back in the Philippines.

“Back home, I was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree.

My role was as Health Director. We did lots of projects for impoverished areas, such as medical mission, free circumcision operation and feeding program. At the same time, my wife was a pediatrician assigned to a health center. Even in our own house, we accommodated indigent people needing treatment. Helping vulnerable people has become a usual thing for me.”

Upon learning that the place under the bridge burned down where homeless people were camping, and despite hearing about the risks of going to said site, Edison still proceeded to check on the fire victims. “The area was a pitiful sight of people trying to salvage things from what remained after the fire. There was one person who was sick and on

a wheelchair. I asked an old man what they needed. I heard him say “hot meals.” My heart was crushed.

I did what I believed was the right thing to do, I brought them food and other immediate needs. I am glad there were generous people who donated. Another volunteer, Othello, joined me the second time I visited the camp.”

For decades back home, Dante did volunteer jobs and worked on many programs for helping the poor, like feeding program, providing free x-ray, ECG and circumcision operation, to cite a few. He was a fire volunteer before he got the job as a firefighter. “When my family arrived here in Winnipeg in 2010, I searched for volunteer groups to join because I would like to continue what I was doing. Volunteerism is an important part of my life. It makes me happy, motivated and energized as it gives me reason to do my best to make myself prepared for opportunities to help. It means that if there are

nspired by a post in social media about a community who came together and made a massive poppy blanket in honour of the soldiers who fought in the second world war, Sheilah Restall initiated the Poppy Blanket Project for Winnipeg. City Councillor for Old Kildonan Devi Sharma was the first to respond to Sheilah’s call for support to her project. Devi organized the poppy attaching parties where community members can meet and have fun working together to complete the huge blanket.

Among those invited for the poppy attaching parties was 204 Neighbourhood Watch. For two consecutive Tuesdays (October 8 and 15), volunteers of the group went to Garden City to help build the blanket. To Cielo Sarmento, the experience of attaching poppies to the blanket was unforgettable.

Cielo is an active volunteer of 204 Neigbourhood Watch and of Saint James Deer Lodge Neighbourhood Watch. “In the past, when I go to a store and find these flowers, I just buy one so I will have something to wear for the Remembrance Day just like everybody else. I knew what it was for, but it was a shallow appreciation of its meaning. Today when I joined the poppy attaching party, I felt that deep appreciation and gratitude to the veterans who fought in the war and whose sacrifices shaped a very important part of Canada’s history.“ Toto Sarmento is the founder of Saint James Deerlodge Neighbourhood Watch, a partner

organization of 204 Neighbourhood Watch. Toto said that in the past, whenever he sees a poppy, he remembers the sacrifices made by the veterans.

“These were soldiers who fought hard in the war, there were those who survived and those who did not make it. They are the reason why Canada is what it is now - a free, peaceful and beautiful country enjoyed by all of us including immigrants. While contributing my time and effort to building the blanket, it felt good that I was with a circle of people who were also at that time attaching poppies and appreciating the significance of what we were doing. It was a great community of people around me, a fun and meaningful way to spend time with the other members of the community.”

times my body feels weak or if I face some challenge, knowing that other people might need my help motivates me to bounce back right away to the strong version of me.

And it is the same thing that I tell other people, as sometimes I assist them through moral support and sometimes through financial support.”

“Even if I am here in Canada, I am still in touch with some volunteer organizations in the Philippines and try to be of help to them in whatever way I can. Because equally important to the volunteer works that I do are my co-volunteers. Before I can go out and say that, yes, I am helping and giving respect to the community, it should start with how I am treating my co-volunteers,” Dante said.

“The Bayanihan sa Winnipeg that Edison started is a like giving a bridge for someone to cross from the very vulnerable state to the point

when the person will be able to start again and move on. We have come across newcomers living paycheck to paycheck who can’t afford house repair, or sometimes a single parent or an old person needing some help.

Whenever I am available, I help them.

I don’t expect anything in return. It makes me happy, hearing thank you is sufficient,” Dante added.

Bayanihan sa Winnipeg is meant for helping and making the lives of the people in the community better.

“I did not form it just for the sake of having an organization, it need not turn into a registered not for profit organization. It will exist because of peoples’ good intention and willingness to help without expecting anything in return,” Edison said.

Winter Storm Aftermath

A

fter the winter storm wreaked havoc in Manitoba last October 4 thru the next day, the province is now faced with some challenges in putting everything back to normal. In Winnipeg alone, there are estimated 30,000 downed trees on public land and tens of thousands more on private properties. Though clearing is being done everyday, Mayor Brian Bowman said that the clean up process might take months, potentially extending into 2020.

While the city already offered free drop off of tree debris at 4R recycling depots and at the Brady Road Landfill, it may also open Christmas tree disposal sites to accommodate massive clean up.

Councillors were also advised on clearing efforts at priority locations such as main streets and around schools.

With the enormous destruction that is needing quite a process to fix, it will cost the city tens of millions of dollars which is an “unreasonable financial burden” according to Bowman, that moved him to introduce a motion to call on the provincial government to provide disaster financial assistance under the Emergency Measures Act. Meanwhile, outside Winnipeg, repairs are continuously being done by MB Hydro especially in the hard-hit regions around Portage la Prairie, Neepawa, Dauphin, Ashern, and Arborg.

“This is damage on a scale never before seen in Manitoba,” said Jay Grewal, President and CEO of Manitoba Hydro. “So much of the damages in the hardest hit areas aren’t simple repairs. We are talking about having to rebuild miles of distribution lines, and rebuild sections of our transmission network, including enormous steel towers. The work will continue even after customers are restored, as we make temporary repairs to restore service as quick as possible before beginning work on permanent fixes.

Make no mistake, this is a very serious situation,” added Grewal.

The Province of Manitoba still remains under a state of emergency after it was declared by Premier Brian Pallister last October 13th, a move which allowed MB Hydro to invoke aid from neighbouring utilities who are now sending equipment, materials and personnel to assist in the restoration efforts.

In this process of massive clean up and time of restoration, everybody is requested to be patient and proactive, to be alert and informed and to simply… be safe.

SEMFA Basketball League Launches 2019 Season

T

he South Eastman Filipino Association (SEMFA) Basketball League kicked off its 2019 Season on September 28 in Steinbach, the province’s third largest city and home to an estimated 2,000 kababayan.

Interviewed on Steinbach’s Golden West radio, league spokesperson Abram ‘Absky’ Razon explains how this season is the largest to date: "We expanded from a maximum of six teams coming from the southeastern, to twelve teams now having almost

200 players involved in the league."

Two new divisions were also added. The regular division that is open to players ages 15 to 34 is now the Senior division, while those age 14 and under play in the new Junior Division. The other new division is for Veterans who are age 35 and onward.

The opening ceremonies was held at Clearspring Middle School, with Steinbach Mayor continuation on page 15

MVGayot: I am fully aware that the center is owned by the community. As president of PCCM, my goal is to serve the organization in fulfilling its mission/vision in connecting & serving to our community in all honesty. I have no personal interest or any other personal business agenda. I want to see our community be united and be proud of who we are as Filipinos, people that are united, peaceful and helping each other. I want to work with our community leaders in strengthening the relationship of the center and our community. I would say that I have an independent mind and cannot be dictated by anybody.

I know my responsibility and limitations but can ask the advise of other leaders for the good of the center. Majority of the board have supported my decision in connecting with our community.

But if that happens, I will stand to fight what is right. I will not resign. I will continue to lead the Centre in whatever capacity I have in the right direction in achieving its mission/vision in the service to our community. But if the majority of the board members will decide to vote me out because of this reason, then I will have to respect the majority decision of the board. But most of all, I cling to Our Almighty God for all the wisdom, knowledge and direction in fulfilling the mission.

FJ: With the meeting you had with some religious groups and current leaders of community associations and organization, will there be another community or townhall meeting to further discuss the current situation and the future of PCCM? MVGayot: As I have said, we will have another meeting once our finances is done with external audit. We want to be transparent to you all.

“Mabagal” scores grand slam at Himig Handog 2019 Father of Barretto sisters dies

he Moira dela Torre-Daniel Padilla duet “Mabagal” emerged as biggest winner in this year’s Himig Handog songwriting competition.

Miguel Alvir Barretto, the father of celebrities Claudine, Gretchen, and Marjorie died on Tuesday at 82.

Actress Claudine Barreto, the youngest of the sisters, confirmed the sad news through her Instagram story.

The actress also shared a short clip at the hospital during their final moment with Mr. Barretto. Claudine did not reveal why her dad was confined to the hospital. Marjorie shared that her father fell very ill right after blowing his candles on his birthday cake.

The SEMFA Basketball League will run until November 16, with games scheduled every Saturday afternoon. The alternative playing venue is at Stonybrook Middle School.

Kris Ontong is the past president of the South Eastman Filipino Association (SEMFA) based in Steinbach, and is an awardee at the 2019 National Filipino-Canadian Heritage Event for his active role in the Filipino community.

Early Autumn at the Roland Pumpkin Fair, 05 October 2019

loudy sky, intermittent rain, and 8 degrees Celsius - it didn't matter at all! Group A families and friends celebrated early autumn at the Roland Pumpkin Fair (held every first Saturday of October) at the Rural Municipality of Roland, Manitoba, which is about 105 kms. southwest of Winnipeg. The main highlight of the pumpkin festival is called the Great Pumpkin and Vegetable Commonwealth Weigh-Off held at the mainstage

arena where the locals and visitors had gathered before 10:30 in the morning. Every pumpkin entry coming from different towns of the province was being placed on the scale at the mainstage arena by means of a forklift.

Breaking the Manitoba-grown record, the heaviest pumpkin and declared as the 2019 winner weighs 1,660.5 lbs. owned and raised by Mr. Cornie Banman from Schanzenfeld, Manitoba, thereby receiving the grand prize of $1,500. When asked how Mr. Banman raised the monster pumpkin he said, "I pumped at least 250 gallons of water per day without using any fertilizer." During the competition prizes were also handed out for the largest green squash, for the heaviest tomato and

The whole-day affair started with a pancake breakfast under the fairgrounds tent. Also at the arena, alive with free continuous family entertainment, are agricultural and educational displays and face painting and choo choo train for kids.

Bongbong Marcos repeatedly Pinoy gymnast wins historic gold at World Championships claims he was cheated

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. continued to claim he was a victim of massive cheating during the 2016 vice presidential race.

Marcos said Vice President Leni Robredo had already robbed three years of what could have been his six-year term.

Robredo won the vice presidential race by a margin of 280,000 vote. She countered

Marcos’ claim by saying that between the two of them, she knows that she is not the thief. She also took a swipe at the Marcoses by saying that she doesn’t have fake diplomas, apparently referring to accusations that Sen. Imee Marcos falsely claimed to be a graduate of Harvard.

The Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), released copies of initial recount results in the provinces of Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental where the former senator claimed he was cheated. The high court also asked Robredo’s camp to submit an answer to Marcos’ bid to recount votes in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Filipino teen Carlos Yulo wows spectators at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships by qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, reaching the top 10 of the men's individual all-around final and becoming the first Filipino world champion by ruling the men's floor exercise.

The 19-year old Yulo won the gold medal in the floor exercise of the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships at the Hans Martin Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany. He scored 15.300 points, beating out Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat, who emerged as the topnotcher in the qualifiers. China's Xiao Ruteng settled for bronze with a score of 14.933.

Tunóg Kálye 2:

May Rakrákan Na, May Raprápan Pa! (Gig Review) October 5, 2019 Essence Event Centre Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Tunóg Kálye 2 was a blast primarily because it was a gathering of some of the luminaries of Philippine Alternative music scene.

After the mood-setting opening sets of local groups such as 4ThirtyOne and YzzaBand, the main show was started by the head-bobbing and hip-hopping performance of artist Vendeatha, with a number of songs from his former group Salbakúta, like "Stupid Love."

Bass player Robert Javier then delivered his rendition of his band The Youth's staples "Anák Ka ng Iná Mo" and "Multóng Baklâ (Multó sa Paningín)."

Afterwards, Grin Dept. were next. The trio of Andrew,

Chi Cha, and Alf were at their usually goofy, engaging, and lively predisposition, dishing out favorites such as "Miss U (Miss, Miss, sa Loob ng Jeepney)" and "Iskín.”

Yours truly, representing Half Life Half Death, then joined Grin Dept. for their last song— "Inbetween Days" by The Cure.

With her electric guitar, amiable Lei Bautista then engaged the crowd with her Alternative Pop set that included "Manila" by Hotdog, "Bonggáhan (Panáhon Na pára Magsayá)" by Sampaguita, and her former band Prettier than Pink's lovely hit "Cool Ka Lang."

Stephen Lu, formerly of the pioneering band Runaway Boys, then lit up the stage with his fiery rendition of classic songs of his other former band—Rizal

Underground's "'Yan Namán," "Bilanggô," and "Sábado Nights."

Former 6CycleMind frontman Ney Dimaculangan continued the sonic energy with his equally powerful set of songs such as "Aamínin," Two Mind Crack's "Upside Down," and Teeth's "Prinsésa."

A former singer of Rivermaya, Jason Fernandez then rocked the stage even harder with his soulful and heartrending delivery of the band's iconic singles "Elisí," "Kísapmatá," and "Hanap-hánap Kitá" and a playful version of Eraserheads' "Ang Hulíng El Bímbo."

Ultimately, the entire ensemble got together onstage for the closing stomper—a rendition of the dancey "Kabilúgan ng Buwán" by Tropical Depression.

Definitely Tunóg Kálye 2 was a great homage to the equally great Filipino Alternative music that emerged in the Philippines in the 1990s.

Campaign encourages immigrant and refugee citizens to vote in 2019 federal election built off of the success of previous voter engagement campaigns initiated by the organizers during the 2018 Winnipeg Municipal Election and the 2019 Manitoba Provincial Election.

“Got Citizenship?

Go Vote!” has been organized by members of IPW’s Inclusion and

Immigration Partnership Winnipeg, in partnership with the Ethnocultural Council of Manitoba – Stronger Together, and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) this morning launches its newcomer federal election engagement campaign entitled, “Got Citizenship? Go Vote!” – this is in advance of the October 21st, 2019 Canadian federal election.

The public awareness campaign aims to encourage those of the immigrant and refugee community, who have their citizenship and are 18 years of age and older, to participate in the upcoming federal election.

“The lack of awareness regarding election processes and engagement mechanisms among newcomer voters can lead to a lack of participation,” states South Sudanese youth representative, Mathew Joseph. “However, this campaign of educating and encouraging newcomer voters to vote will help overcome a multitude of barriers and give them responsibility.”

By way of posters, factsheets, a workshop, social media publicity, and videos, the campaign encourages newcomers to inform themselves of their voting rights as naturalized Canadian citizens and ask questions of federal candidates of particular relevance to newcomer communities.

The highlight of the launch today is the release of the campaign’s voter information and mobilization videos. The videos feature members of the newcomer and ethnocultural communities and are translated into 13 languages. Languages include: Amharic, Arabic, American Sign Language, French, Hindi, Mandarin, plain English, Punjabi, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, and Tigrinya. There is also a video developed by newcomer youth. The videos were developed by Nilufer Rahman of

Snow Angel Films.

“To many newcomers, language difference and lack of information are some of the barriers to participation in voting,” states Immigration Partnership Winnipeg Public Engagement Lead, Jennifer Chen. “Multi-language videos not only reduce this barrier, but also build personal connections with people. When newcomers see someone who is familiar and from their community talking about election and voting, they can feel personally connected.”

While the focus of the campaign is targeted at immigrant and refugee voters, the campaign also seeks to raise awareness for federal candidates of issues important to the immigrant, refugee and ethnoculutral communities, and ensure these communities are considered in their campaigns.

“New Canadians are part of our community. They would like to have their voices captured in decision making but many are not sure how to and where to vote,” states Immigration Partnership Winnipeg Director, Abdikheir Ahmed. “These videos provide an opportunity for newcomers to hear the importance of voting in their own language directly from members of their community.

Encouraging new Canadians to vote in their own language makes them feel included, creates a sense of pride and values their place in our community.”

Roughly 25% of the population in Winnipeg are immigrants or refugees and almost 50% (46%) of Winnipeg’s population are first or second generation immigrants or refugees.

In Manitoba, citizens with immigrant or refugee backgrounds make up roughly 15% of the voting population, and roughly 20% across Canada.

Manitoba after being hit by a winter storm, is given special attention by Elections Canada as many electors might have been affected by the circumstance and were not able to take advantage of the advance polls. Elections Canada advised Manitobans that they will add resources at the local level and will be ready to adjust their services for October 21st.

by Elections Canada and the local government, the most crucial move now lies in the voters. More than just being aware of the big election day, does everyone know how to vote and who to vote for?

Elections.ca will guide you through with Voting 101 information and some FAQs. Here are some basic info from the website.

To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old on election day, and prove your identity and address.

The only remaining way to vote in this election is at your assigned polling station on Monday, October 21.

If you're registered, you should have received a voter information card in the mail. It tells you where and when you can vote. If the name and address on your card are correct and you

meet the eligibility criteria stated on the card, you're ready to vote.

Bring this card with you, along with accepted ID, to make the voting process easier when you go to vote.

If you didn't get your voter information card or if the information on it is wrong, you may not be registered or your voter information may not be up to date.

You can also register or update your information, including your name, at your assigned polling station on election day, Monday, October 21.

To vote in the federal election you have to prove your identity and address. There are three ways to do this which you can explore at elections.ca The 43rd Canadian general elections will elect members of the House of Commons to the 43rd Canadian Parliament.

Canada, through this election, will dictate and witness if the incumbent Liberals under Justin Trudeau will retain the majority won 4 years ago. Or will it be the Conservative Party, under Andrew Scheer, the New Democratic Party under Jagmeet Singh, the Green Party under Elizabeth May and the People's Party under Maxime Bernier?
