FIM EUROPE CLUB PROSECCO HILLS 2023

The FIM Europe Club Experience 2023 was held from 26th to 29th September in the famous area of the Prosecco Hills, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The base of the event was the Hotel Contà in Pieve di Soligo which, with its owner Francesco Ferracin, offered a warm and hospitable welcome to the motorcyclists gathered.

Almost forty participants, coming from four countries aboard twenty-four motorbikes, enjoyed routes that meandered through the surprising vineyards of the green hills that rise from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene. Through exciting passes it was possible to discover fantastic plateaus and splendid forests that have donated wood for the Repu-

blic of Venice since the 15th century. The participants were welcomed by the Mayor of Pieve di Soligo Stefano Soldan, by the Councilor of the Veneto Region Tommaso Razzolini and by the FIM Europe Vice President Francesco Mezzasalma. The Experience was organized in collaboration with the Moto Club Omobono Tenni of Treviso. The Member of the FIM Europe Touring Commission Luigi Favarato, supported by Renato and Antonello, created the tours with a care and dedication reserved only for friends. Thanks to all of them! Among the participants as organizers also the General Secretary Alessandro Sambuco and the Chairman of the Touring Commission Panagiotis Kalaitzis.

“This occasion also made clear what the true added value of these events is: in addition to sharing moments of passion with colleagues in a convivial atmosphere, it offers an important opportunity for the host Federation to showcase the historical, architectural, landscape and food and wine excellences of the territory. The impact on tourism promotion is easily understood. Many will return as tourists to these places, just as many of us will certainly return to savor again the extraordinary local gastronomic specialties and the spectacular wines that (only in the evening on foot or on board the bus) we were lucky enough to taste".

EMX85

In the opening EMX85 race, Liam Bruneau made the fastest start and led the race. Bruneau kept going with the lead until the checkered flag to dominate the first race. Behind him Nicolò Alvisi had to fight his way during the whole race as the Italian found himself in 6th on lap 1 but charged forward to make great passes along the way. Alvisi even touched wheel with Riccardo Pini as they were fighting for 3rd in mid-race. Alvisi got the best of Pini to finish 2nd in the end and even put pressure on Bruneau in the last lap while setting the fastest lap. Pini finished 3rd. Dex Kooiker was second behind Bruneau for a while until lap 8 of 12 when Alvisi and Pini powered through to overtake him. He had to settle for 4th and finish there in the end. On the podium in the last round in Romania, Dean Gregoire could not do better than 7th in the end.

In the second race, it was Juan Izaguirre who got the best start but Alvisi followed closely to make his move within the first lap to take the lead. Alvisi kept going at the lead until the end although Bruneau who quickly got to 2nd place set some fastest laps and reduced the gap with Alvisi. Alvisi responded shortly after with a fastest lap of his own. In the last lap Bruneau gave everything he had to get closer. The crowd was on its feet but Alvisi held on to win race 2 and go 2-1 to win the gold medal in EMX85. Thanks to his great speed and skills, Bruneau went 1-2 to clinch the silver medal. Kooiker had to battle to get on the podium. He found himself 5th on lap 1 but he had to move up the rank to get the bronze medal. He quickly capitalised on Pini’s fall to get to 4th in lap 2 of 12. Kooiker kept a great pace and determination as he moved pass Izaguirre for 3rd on lap 5 which placed him on the 3rd step of the podium. Izaguirre unfortunately went down and struggled to get back up and finished 19th. Pini lost his chance of a podium with a fall on lap 2 as he picked himself up in 10th. He still managed to get back up to 7th to go 3-7 but fell short of the podium in 4th position.

In race 1, the holeshot went to Francesco Assini as he took the best start and took the lead in front of Tim Lopes. The front two riders engaged in a big battle as Lopes was closing in on Assini. Lopes even set the fastest lap as he was chasing the lead but then made a mistake which left Assini off the hook for a while. Lopes came back for more but the young Italian held his ground superbly under pressure until the very last corners to win race 1 in front of Lopes.

The 3rd place was pretty open with Enri Lustus, Loan Torro and Kenzo Jaspers. Lustus started well and got 3rd for the first two laps until he made a mistake to see Torro moving up to 3rd. Lustus in the end finished 8th.Torro showed good speed but a mistake on the very last lap saw the young French rider moving down to 5th. This mistake benefitted to Jaspers who came back from 5th on lap 1 to finish 3rd in the end.

The winner of the last round in Romania Patrick Cirulis finished 6th while Harry Dale made an extraordinary comeback after a fall in the first lap. He went from the 37th place on lap 1 to 13th in the end over the space of 7 laps. In the second race, Dale made a stunning start to take the lead. The young British showed a huge talent as he led the race from start to finish extending his gap to 13 seconds. This incredible performance put him on the 3rd step of the podium to get the bronze medal. Behind him was Lopes who showed a lot of composure as he got 2nd from the start and chased after Dale although he could not keep with Dale’s pace. Lopes got his 2nd place under threat by Torre Van Mechgelen on the last lap. Lopes knew he had to hang on to win the EMX65 Championship when all of a sudden, he went down. Lopes was out of 2nd and picked himself up quickly to finish 3rd in the end. Van Mechgelen finished 2nd. In the meantime, Assini displayed some willpower to overcome an average start. Assini went heroically from 9th on lap 1 to 4th and force his way onto the top step of the podium with an excellent 1-4.

KARL ROBIN RILLO IS THE NEW LEADER AFTER ROUND THREE IN NORTHERN IRELAND

Third round of the EMX Quad European Championship in Northern Ireland in Redbrae Park, an international event run together with the Sidecarcross GP, which has returned here after 43 years.

Rain was a major factor that influenced Saturday’s races, as the track became very muddy forcing the cancellation of the warm-up. It was again local rider McLernon who managed to win Race 1 by a comfortable margin, leaving his chasers Kacper Mieszkowski from Poland in second place and Patrick Turrini from Italy in third place behind by a 6 seconds gap and an impressive 31 second gap. In the fight for survival in the mud, Estonian rider Karl Robin Rillo finished only in sixth position, opening the door for Turrini’s escape in the front of the Championship.

Second race saw an immediate withdrawal of McLernon due to a mechanical problem in the first lap while Patrick Turrini was in the lead by a comfortable margin for half of the race. Unfortunately for Turrini, instead of grabbing maximum points, he had to settle for 12th place as his quad broke down halfway. After a bad start, Karl Robin Rillo of Estonia picked up riders in front of him one by one until reaching third position, thus securing his third place on the overall podium. Race 2 was won

by Lithuanian Laurynas Mikalauskas, who won the overall by 1 point in front of Polish rider Kacper Mierzkowski.

Teenager Jan Brehl from Czech Republic had a very promising evolution despite his young age, finishing second in the Race 2 but missing out on the podium also by 1 point.

After this round the new Championship leader is Estonian Karl Robin Rillo who is in front by 6 points to Italian Patrick Turrini while heading to next’s week’s round in Gusses Corse (United Kingdom).

WALKER AND TURRINI SHARE VICTORIES IN MIXED CONDITIONS AT CUSSES GORSE

Next to last round of the EMX Quad European Championship has been hosted at Cusses Gorse Circuit in Aylesbury, Great Britain.

Race 1

The gates slammed down and 21 riders stormed uphill toward the tight left-hand turn, with #5 Dafydd Davies claiming the holeshot with a marginal advantage over McLernon. Turrini slotted into third ahead of Walker, and #96 Murray Graham, having a better day than yesterday, finding himself in seventh as the riders completed the first lap. With the Italian and Norwegian having clear track in front of them, they increased their pace in the pursuit of McLernon, who was unable to match the pace of the race leader. Heading into the mid-point of the race, all eyes were firmly set on the battle for second place.

Turrini soon found his groove, and commenced his mission of chasing down Walker, but with only five laps remaining, it seemed as though it was too much of a challenge. What was not taken into consideration, was Turrini’s sheer speed and determination, which saw him close the gap with every passing lap. Much to the delight of the local crowd, Walker reappeared, soaring through the air to take victory over the determined Turrini, to claim the victory by 0.794 seconds, with Tveraen rounding off the podium to take 20 valuable points. Tucek crossed the line in a respectable sixth position, however, failing to pass the post-race sound test meant the Czech was penalised 5 positions, and was eventually credited with 11th position.

Race 2

Pre-race favourites Walker and Turrini both made impressive starts, with the experienced Italian taking the holeshot ahead of Walker,

and fast-starting Dafydd Davies keeping a watching brief in third. As ever, there was drama throughout the opening lap, with the luckless Murray Graham having to retire from the race due to his rear-left wheel coming off of the machine, and #41 Jan Brhel also retiring through, what appeared to be, a mechanical issue. In the latter half of the opening lap, it was local man and race one victor Harry Walker who skilfully took the lead from Turrini, and immediately looked to increase the advantage.

The two-laps remaining board was shown to the 13 circulating riders, and Tveraen was the man on the charge in his attempts to close the gap between himself and Walker, in second position. Backmarkers were now coming into play and, despite a slight loss of time for Turrini, his gap was large enough that he was not challenged in his pursuit of race victory.

Turrini knew he had enough of an advantage over Walker to take the victory as he punched the air in jubilation, with Walker crossing the line to complete the race in second place, and Tveraen once more rounding off the podium with another third position. Dafydd Davies was once again inside the top-five with his fourth place, and Rillo completed the race comfortably in fifth position.

PATRICK TURRINI TAKES THE TITLE

The fifth and final round of the EMX Quad European Championship was raced in the Czech Republic. Here the dream became true for Patrick Turrini (Yamaha).

The young Italian talented rider arrived to this last challenge in Loket with an advantage of 17 points on his direct opponent Karl Robin Rillo, but the challenge for the title already finished even before starting as the Estonian rider did not take part to the race.

Without the direct challenge between these two top riders, Turrini took his first European title.

In hot Loket the new Champion easily faced the two races, after finishing third in qualifying. In the first heat he was third behind Czech Jan Brhel (Yamaha) and Norwegian Joakim Granli (Honda) for a long time, but in the course of the race he overtook Granli and secured second place. Instead, in Race2 Turrini won with no pressure ahead of Granli and the Czech David Susa with Brhel only fifth. In the fight for standings Brhel became Vice European Champion and Rillo had to settle

with the third position.

SCORCHING HEAT IN PLEVEN

#03

After a long break the S3 and SM Junior European Championship were back in action at the track of Pleven in Bulgaria – an iconic track for the discipline, as it was the first circuit to include the asphalted off-road section also called sky section.

SM Junior

In Race 1 Andrea Benvenuti (MTR Ktm Racing) took the lead at the start of the first moto, after the first corner and despite Matej Kokes (Husqvarna) tried to overtake his rival, he did not succeed. The top three was rounded off by Nathan Terraneo (Ktm). Benvenuti’s race pace was unsustainable for his rivals, so he was the protagonist of a solitary race. The young Italian rider followed the recommendations his team gave him from the pit lane and managed the race without exagge-

rating and without making mistakes. The rider came home with the first victory of the day, while Kokes crossed the finish line in second and Terraneo was third.

In Race 2 Benvenuti took the lead of the race thanks to a perfect start but slipped after the third corner, so he had to start from the last position. In the meantime, Matej Kokes had taken the lead of the race followed by Terraneo. Benvenuti did not give up and was the author of a storming recovery; with record time he worked his way up and climbed the standings and reached Kokes in the last lap eventually overtaking him so that he won the race. The Ktm rider was joined on the podium by second qualified Matej Kokes while Natahan Terraneo was third. Thanks to this result Benvenuti is the new red plate holder.

S3

The French Gianni Catorc hit a double win ahead of Czech rider Jan Ulman. Thanks to the third position in Race 2 Brando Compocasso was third overall.

FIRST VICTORY FOR GOURDEON IN THE S4 AND SERRA IN THE SM JUNIOR

#04

ROUND 17TH SEPTEMBER ALCARRAS, SPAIN

The Circuito de Alcarrás in Spain welcomed the fourth round of the S4 and SM Junior European Championship. Riders offered thrilling shows in their respective races: Gourdon Rafael took the victory in the S4 and home hero Alex Serra Ginestra triumphed in the SM Junior.

S4

In Race1, as the red lights blinked off, pole man Francisco Gomez Requena (Husqvarna) took the lead of the race after pulling away at the first corner, chased by Alex Gourdon Rafael (Husqvarna) and Kevin Vandi (L30 Racing Tm Factory). Gomez Requena was affected by a technical problem in the first lap so was forced to leave the race and Gourdon Rafael and Kevin Vandi moved to the front. The Italian rider tried to keep the race pace of the leader, but preferred not to take any risks since his closest rival was offside. Theo Gourdon Rafael kept third spot for most of the session, but with two laps to go and a flat tyre had to leave his place to Loris Ford Dunn.

A few minutes after the start of Race2 heavy rain forced riders to mount rain tyres and a hard-fought battle for the victory took place among three rivals who opened a huge gap over the other challengers. Francisco Gomez Requena immediately took the lead tailgated by Alex Gourdon Rafael and Kevin Vandi. The race pace of the three riders was very impressive as they moved very far from the other riders within just a few laps. Gomez

Requena kept the lead and made no mistake, furthermore he never gave the chance to his chasers to attack him. Kevin Vandi, third, tried to overtake once and for all Gourdon Rafael but could not complete his attempt.

French Alex Gourdon Rafael reached the first step of the podium, joined by second qualified Kevin Vandi and Francisco Gomez Requena was third. In the Championship standings Kevin Vandi remains the current red plate holder and strengthened his advantage.

SM Junior

The SM Junior Race1 had just one protagonist, Spanish Max Serra Ginesta, who took the lead of the race right after the start and opened a huge gap over rivals; this allowed him to ride all nine laps without rivals getting any closer. Behind him, Matej Kokes could not do anything to keep up with the leader’s pace. Third place was hard fought but went to red plate holder Andrea

Benvenuti

In Race2 Max Serra Ginesta stretched away at the start to take the lead of the race and no rider could get any closer to him in this circuit where he opened a huge gap over rivals after just a few laps and was the first to cross the finish line after a solo race.

Behind him riders battled it out for the top positions. Kokes was second after the first corner and Andrea Benvenuti tried to overtake two rivals at the first corner but failed. However, the Italian rider worked his way up till the second place in the first laps also taking advantage of Koke’s mistake in the off-road. Unfortunately, Benvenuti was affected by mechanical problems which slowed him down, so he qualified in the final positions. Riccardo Andreotti finished in second and Nathan Terraneo was third.

DOUBLE VICTORY AND LEADERSHIP FOR CAMPOCASSO IN ROMANIA

Prejmer Raceway Circuit near Brașov, about 200 km north of capital Bucharest, offered a perfect setting for Supermoto some with wide turns, fast corners and a nicely built offroad.

First race of Saturday was a real thriller with incredible highs and lows and an unexpected unfolding of events.

Bulgarian Jivko Ivanov (KTM) was on pole and managed to take the holeshot only to throw everything away in the second corner as he lost grip at the offroad entrance and crashed while going from first position to dead last in just a few seconds.

It was then French rider Brando Campocasso (KTM) who was gifted the lead and started to open up a gap to second place rider Bulgarian Atanas Lekov (KAWASAKI).

But it was a revival race for Jivko Ivanov after picking himself up after his early race crash as he made up great lengths of time and arrived second with only few laps to go.

Only a misfortune or a mistake could take the win away from Campocasso and before the finish a lapped rider crashed in front of the leader to take him out and give the victory to Jivko Ivanon from Bulgaria, who arrived from first at the start to immediately last after two corners and back to first again at the finish.

Campocasso managed to pick himself up and finish in second position while Atanas was third.

Second race was a mission of Campocasso, who managed to win in style and win round tied in points with Ivanov, while Atanas was third.

Third round on Sunday had the same history in both races, with Campocasso leading, Ivanov and Atanas running close by in second and third respectively, giving Campobasso of France the lead in the standings.

BRANDO CAMPOCASSO IS THE NEW CHAMPION!

Two weeks after the second and third rounds of the FIM Europe S3 Junior Supermoto European Championship in Romania, the fourth and the fifth rounds of the series was raced Pleven, Bulgaria. Expectations were high and not dashed too as perfect conditions were reunited to offer an amazing and special show in this last date with the crown of the new champion.

Ruler in the last two races, Brando Campocasso from France grabbed the S3 Junior European title, taking the gold medal with just two points ahead of his biggest rival from Bulgaria, Jivko Ivanov.

Both riders finalized an interesting season and event in Pleven. Despite Ivanov was on home soil, a mistake in the first race on Saturday costed him these two points gap to the French rider. Even if the Bulgarian rider took three wins, that was not enough, giving the title in the hands of Campocasso who calculated his chances and did perfect tactical races which at the end led him to the gold place.

Third position for Nikola Dosev from Bulgaria, tied on points with Atanas Lekov: missing the event because of an injury the bronze medal went to Dosev.

He won the second round of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship and secured his first points in this year's series. Mikkel Michelsen claimed the second place and the lead position in the overall classification. Andzejs Lebedevs finished third.

After the absence caused by an injury during the first round in Częstochowa, it could be expected that the silver medalist from last year's SEC would do everything to make up for the points against his opponents. However, Janusz Kołodziej's performance on the German track was close to perfection. He won 4 out of 5 heats and confidently advanced to the final.

A similar form was shown by Mikkel Michelsen in Guestrow. A failed eleventh heat, in which he finished behind Kołodziej, Lindbaeck, and Madsen, allowed him to advance to the final from the second place.

Andzejs Lebedevs and Antonio Lindbaeck provided a positive surprise. Both riders met in the 17th heat, which turned out to be crucial in determining the order of places in the Last Chance Heat. The Latvian won it, while unfortunately, the Swede suffered motocycle failure.

The disappointment of the tournament was Leon Madsen, who scored only 4 points in 5 heats. The representatives of Germany - Kai Huckenbeck and Norick

Bloedorn - could also finish the competition with a sense of dissatisfaction. They brought in 7 and 3 points respectively.

The outside starting positions proved to be very beneficial for the riders. From them, in the Last Chance Heat, Andzejs Lebedevs and Dominik Kubera launched, maintaining the first two places by crossing the finish line ahead of Patryk Dudek and Antonio Lindbaeck.

In the final, the standout performer during the second round, Janusz Kołodziej, held off Mikkel Michelsen's attacks and won Final 2 in Guestrow.

In the overall classification, Mikkel Michelsen took the lead, having a 9-point advantage over Leon Madsen. Kacper Woryna, Andzejs Lebedevs, Patryk Dudek, and Janusz Kołodziej moved into the top positions.

The next event will be held on the 9th of September in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

MADESEN RULES IN POLAND

09TH SEPTEMBER BYDGOSZCZ, POLAND

Leon Madsen won in the third round of the Individual Speedway Euro Championship in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Madsen's third victory during SEC competitions in Bydgoszcz became a reality. The Dane showed that he really knows the oval secret of the track. This win extends his hopes for the title.

The podium was completed by Mikkel Michelsen and Dominik Kubera.

Janusz Kołodziej might feel the disappointment. After the regular phase the leader finished the most crucial race of the evening in fourth place. Nevertheless, the points he gathered still keep him in the race for medals in TAURON SEC 2023.

Michelsen is continuing his course towards the championship title. The Dane scored fifteen points and gain the second place. Unless something unexpected happens in Pardubice, he will secure his third Individual European Champion title in his career.

Surprisingly, Kai Huckenbeck and Antonio Lindbäck performed admirably on the Bydgoszcz track. The German collected ten points on his tally and came close to reaching the final race. Meanwhile, the Swede had to settle for a respectable sixth place.

MICHELSEN CLAIMS HIS THIRD EUROPEAN TITLE!

22ND SEPTEMBER PARDUBICE, CEZCH REPUBLIC

The Final 4 in Pardubice, in the Czech Republic, finished after the fourth series. Kołodziej, who only dropped a single point, took the first place. Dominik Kubera came second with ten points. Leon Madsen took the final podium spot. Right behind the podium finishers was Mikkel Michelsen. The Dane clinched the title after his third race. Despite a fall in his first heat, he stayed on course. Michelsen is now the only rider in the history of Speedway Euro Championship to win the European championship three times.

To the delight of local fans, Vaclav Milik performed well at the Pardubice track, finishing fifth with seven points. It was his best performance in TAURON SEC in a long time. Kai Huckenbeck also demonstrated his form once again, maintaining the level he showed in Bydgoszcz. The German secured sixth place on Czech soil.

It was a tough night for Kacper Woryna. The Polish rider managed to score only two points in four races. Unfortunately, this was not enough to secure a place in the top five of the series.

In TAURON SEC 2023, Michelsen claimed his third Individual European Championship title with 52 points. Madsen took second place with eight points less than his compatriot over the four rounds. The bronze medal of the European Championship went to Janusz Kołodziej. 'Koldi' managed to reach the podium despite missing the inaugural round. In next year's series, they will be joined by Patryk Dudek and Andzejs Lebedevs, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

ROMANO HUMMEL RETAINS EUROPEAN GRASS TRACK TITLE ON WET WERTLE WEEKEND

GERMANY

ding under an Austrian licence- finished third with 16 points, after winning heat 16. Appleton won this race 10 seconds slower than the quickest time on the night, which fully demonstrated just how badly conditions had deteriorated before the decision taken by the FIME Jury President.

Romano Hummel sailed through the rain-soaked conditions in Wertle, Germany, to retain the European Individual Grass Track Championship title. In one evening when the weather did all it could to cause problems to the track and riders, the Dutch stayed calm and focused, riding unbeaten his four scheduled qualifying heats and conquering a deserved title.

That is the final result at the end of heat 16 and before the planned finals could be raced. In fact, at that point the FIME Jury declared that the conditions had deteriorated due to the heavy rain, such that the meeting could not safely continue any further.

Four race wins and 20 points, two points ahead of his nearest rival Chris Harris, allowed Hummel to get the title. The two fierce rivels faced each other in heat 4 after both comfortably won their opening races. "Bomber" Harris gated but Hummel hunted him down and produced a stunning high-speed pass that the Englishman couldn't fight back from. Hummel then completed the clean sweep by gating and winning by some distance in his other two races.

As happened in the previous years, the rostrum was filled again with two British riders, as Harris took second after scoring 18 points and Andrew Appleton -ri-

The unluckiest rider of the night was Dave Meijerink. The Dutchman finished fourth, but was left kicking himself for a self-inflicted error in heat 4, when he lost control and fell while he was leading the race by a clear 100 meters. Meijerink easily won his other three qualifying heats and so would have been tied level with Hummel but for his fall.

The top five see Mika Meijer and Henry Van Der Steen respectively fifth and sixth after scoring 15 and 11 points respectively.

GERMANY HOSTS THE FINAL

12TH AUGUST BAD HERSFELD, GERMANY

The Final of the European Sidecar Championship took place in Bad Hersfeld, a nice town in central Germany in a picturesque setting in a wooded valley, on the outskirts of the town.

Great job done by the staff of the MSC Bad Hursfeld, that worked extremely hard to ensure the event was completed, despite the bad weather that threatened to jeopardise the whole event.

A good crowd of approximately 2,500 people of all ages eventually witnessed a great evening’s racing, but the meeting itself was delayed due to a heavy downpour of rain, just as the riders came out to be presented to the crowd. Due to the surface water that was now laying on the track, the Jury agreed that the commencement of the meeting would be delayed until the track was in a suitable condition to race on. With the track maintenance team working together, fine wood chippings were spread on the track to assist in drying out the surface water that was laying on both corners.

After a delay of one hour, the track was finally in a suitable condition and the first three heats were completed without any incidents. However, due to the bad weather forecast, after a short break the next three heats followed very quickly.

It was during this third session of heats that race 8 produced the first of a number of exciting races. Dutch reserve Sven Holsten and passenger Dennis Smit came into the heat to replace the German team of Markus Venus and Markus Eibl. The Austrian team of Markus Hundsrucker and Florian Niedermeier made a fast start and lead the race, but Holsten was not done and chased Hundsrucker for three laps before finally beating his opponent in the run up to the finish flag.

With signs of more rain fading, it was agreed that the Solo support races would be brought back into the race programme, giving the European Sidecar riders a chance to catch their breath.

Once the support Solos had completed their races, the action return to the last section of qualifying heats for the Sidecars.

Race 11 had the spectators on their feet once again as one of the pre meeting favourites, English team Mitch Godden and Paul Smith, dropped the clutch and the bike stood on “up on end” 5 metres from the start. All three other teams were already into the corner as Gooden now had to get his head down, if he wasn’t going to lose vital points. One by one he picked off his opponents over the three remaining laps with only French team Remi Valladon and Dylan Fourcade between him and the finish flag. With great determination, Godden gave one last brave attempt to defeat his opponent with both teams neck and neck coming out of the last bend, with Godden getting the verdict as he just got his front wheel over the finish line before Valladon.

With the qualifying heats completed, all the riders were allocated into the C, B and A Finals.

With the first and second winning riders in B Final qualifying through into the A Final, this was always going to be a tough race.

Swiss team Imanuel Scramm and Nadin Foftier and German crew Markus Brandhofer and Sandra Mollema, fought let another hard race with both riders eventually beating their rivals for this last chance opportunity to have a crack at the European crown.

With the crowd rising to their feet, the four A finalists came out onto the track like Roman centurions entering the arena in their chariot’s. Brandhofer made another lightening start. Godden tried as he could to chase after the German for four laps, but was unable to make up the ground he needed. At the end Brandhoffer took the chequered flag and the 2023 title. Godden was second, Dutch team Wilfred Detz and Bonita Van Dijk third and Imauel Scramm fourth.

TOURING ACTIVITIES WITH ALTERNATIVE FUEL MOTORCYCLES

FIM Europe, in collaboration with the Mobility and Vehicle Innovation Group (MOVING) at the University of Florence, has undergone an innovative study that explores the future of FIM touring activities and the successful organization of events in light of noise irritation concerns and the introduction of electric Powered Two-Wheelers (ePTWs). The study focuses on identifying potential future scenarios and recommendations for FIM touring activities over the next decade, with a particular emphasis on addressing the issue of noise irritation and the integration of ePTWs, which encompass motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds.

In the initial phase of the study, the team has identified key recommendations to address noise irritation concerns and ensure successful event organization, such as the introduction of pre-gathering motorcycle inspections, aimed at preventing the use of non-standard and overly loud exhaust systems by participants, or reducing the number of riders per group during riding sessions and increasing time gaps between different groups, to effectively minimize excessive noise caused by a large volume of PTWs riding closely together within a short timeframe. Moreover, the study emphasized the importance of implementing informative initiatives to educate local communities about noise emissions and the presence of substantial motorcycle groups in rural areas where FIM events and gatherings are organized. By proactively addressing these issues, FIM Europe is committed to creating a harmonious environment for participants and communities alike.

50 SPECIAL CONTENT > ALTERNATIVE FUEL MOTORCYCLES

The second phase of the study focused on investigating future scenarios for FIM touring activities and gatherings, taking into account the integration of electric PTWs among participants. A literature review was conducted to examine the challenges associated with the future adoption of ePTWs, current technologies related to vehicles, batteries, and charging infrastructures (including their potential development over the next decade), as well as an outlook on the future distribution of ePTWs across Europe. To assess the performances of current ePTWs technologies, a field test session was carried out, simulating FIM touring activities, using currently available ePTWs on the market. In addition, a survey involving more than 1200 European respondents was conducted to gauge their attitudes towards ePTWs. These combined efforts have yielded valuable insights for the smooth integration of ePTW riders into gatherings and touring events organized by FIM Europe.

According to the market analysis performed within the study, the overall share of electric motorcycles in circulation is expected to remain below 10%. As for the adoption of ePTWs in FIM touring activities, it is anticipated to be relatively low in the next decade, allowing for tailored measures to support riders who choose for ePTWs. Interestingly, participants have displayed limited interest in innovative changes aimed at facilitating the inclusion of ePTWs in gatherings. Instead, it is expected that, as the penetration of ePTWs continues, riders' habits will naturally evolve. Participants have expressed the expectation that ePTWs deliver performance similar to conventional internal combustion engine PTWs, making them unwilling to accept compromises in touring events due to the introduction of ePTWs. Additionally, it is worth noting that knowledge and interest in ePTWs are more prominent in North-Centre Europe compared to South Europe. This suggests organizing and designing experimental touring activities specifically targeted at ePTWs in these regions to capitalize on the existing interest and potential for growth.

FIM Europe will be working closely with relevant stakeholders to address the recommendations and findings from this study, ensuring the sustainable and harmonious growth of touring events for all participants.

INDONESIA’S MAHENDRA TAKES PHENOMENAL DOUBLE VICTORY AT IMOLA

The R3 bLU cRU European Championship held its fifth round at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola and history was made in the class when Aldi Satya Mahendra achieved a huge race winning margin in Race 1, and a second impressive victory in Race 2.

Race1

Mahendra made a strong start in Race 1 and managed to dominate the pace from the early stages of the race, with a chasing pack of six eager riders trying hard to keep up.

Championship leader and 2022 SuperFinale winner Emiliano Ercolani

tried to stick to his plan of starting off calm and pushing in the latter half of the race, but the Italian suffered a crash on the kerbs after shooting into second place with four laps to go. While the pack battled for positions, Mahendra kept his head down to build a phenomenal lead, crossing the line seven seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Krittapat Keankum finished in a hard-fought second place, while Kevin Fontainha completed the podium.

Race2

In Race 2 the gaps were smaller and the result much harder to call until

the final flag, but Mahendra once again got off to a flying start. Marc Vich and Ercolani gave chase and were joined in the lead group by Keankum and Eduardo Burr. Despite the best efforts of the leading group of seven, they eventually had to surrender to Mahendra’s dominating pace as the Indonesian star extended the gap to two seconds in the closing laps. Ercolani, who worked his way through the field, finish second while Keankum was third. With this double victory, Mahendra moves to second in the title chase and closes the deficit to just 16 points ahead of the final round.

EMILIANO ERCOLANI CROWNED 2023 R3 BLU CRU CHAMPION IN DRAMATIC FINALE

Italy’s Emiliano Ercolani became the Yamaha bLU cRU European Champion in Magny Cours, France, after a shocking series of twists and turns that saw him crash in both races.

The day’s action got underway with Race 1, where six riders were still in contention for the crown. But drama is never far away in the class for upcoming talent and a crash early in the race saw three of those contenders - Aldi Mahendra, Ercolani, and Kevin Fontainha – down and out. The red flag was shown due to the debris and a rush ensued to get the bikes repaired and the riders back on track. Despite their best efforts, Mahendra and his crew ran out of time and were unable to take the restart, ultimately costing the Indonesian rider the crown. Meanwhile,

Fontainha and Ercolani were forced to start from the back of the grid. Spain’s Marc Vich came out as the eventual winner of the exciting and unpredictable race, which included several fantastic battles for the victory. French rider Dorian Joulin thrilled his friends and family as well as the assembled crowd when he claimed a brilliant second place, and Shoma Yamane became the first Japanese rider to take a podium in the R3 bLU cRU series. Ercolani made an impressive comeback to fourth, but Vich’s calm and calculated victory moved him to 23 points from the Italian title leader. In Race 2 there were yet more plot twists when Ercolani suffered his second crash of the day and was left waiting nervously for the race result with Vich riding in the lead group. The Mallor-

can needed to win the race in order to claim the crown, and he certainly gave it everything to try and achieve that, but it simply wasn’t to be when he lost ground after running wide. Vich eventually finished sixth, meaning Ercolani could finally celebrate the title despite not finishing the race. Mahendra came back from a double long lap penalty to win the season finale ahead of Brazilian pairing Fontainha and Gustavo Manso. Mahendra and Fontainha also placed second and third in the final standings.

As the R3 bLU cRU European Champion, Ercolani will now move up to the WorldSSP300 class for next season, a perfect progression for the 19-year-old who won his place in this year’s series thanks to a victory in last year’s R3 SuperFinale.

VALENTIN FOLGER BECOMES THE 2023 WINNER

22ND - 23RD SEPTEMBER ARAGON, SPAIN

The second ever R7 SuperFinale saw two thrilling races at Motorland Aragon, Spain, for the 27 riders participating from all over the globe. The first race of the day had plenty of tense battles throughout the field, but pole-sitter Eric Molina was quick to stamp his authority during his second year at the SuperFinale. The Spaniard pulled a gap early on that proved insurmountable for his rivals after he extended the lead to 6.5 seconds. However, the chasing pack squabbled amongst themselves for the remainder of the unpredictable race. Folger kept it smooth and consistent to push his way into podium contention, and this strategy paid off for the German when he took second place at the chequered flag. Italy’s Davide Conte was thrilled to take a strong third place finish.

It was all to play for in Race 2, and with the temptation of winning the title of ‘R7 SuperFinale winner’ and picking up a brand new R7, the competition was hotter than ever. Molina used his track knowledge to take the holeshot, but this time he was unable to pull away and instead he was for-

ced to battle it out with a huge lead group of riders. Italy’s Nikolas Marfurt looked very strong, but a crash in Race 1 cost him the chance to progress in the points standings. Conte also put in another very impressive display, and the effervescent youngster came close to another podium spot. Eric Molina was urged on by the Spanish fans, but despite his best efforts he could only manage third in Race 2, while Italy’s Tommaso Occhi took a great second place. But it was Folger who shone brightest, setting the fastest lap and carving through for the race victory and the overall win thanks to his haul of 45 points.

The Top 3 overall in the 2023 R7 SuperFinale were Folger (Germany), Molina (Spain), and Conte (Italy).

SPAIN’S GONZALO SANCHEZ IS THE 2023 R3 SUPERFINALE WINNER

22 riders from seven different countries gave their all over the course of two fantastic races at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portugal, as they fought it out for the chance to win the ‘crown’ and a supported ride in next year’s Yamaha R3 bLUcRU European Championship.

In Race 1 it was 15-year-old Sanchez who took command, pulling out a very impressive lead of over six seconds on the chasing pack. Behind him a large group of riders were in contention for the final two podium spots and a superb last lap from fellow Spaniard Natalia Rivera saw her take second place. Italy’s Christian Pucci completed the Race 1 podium.

With his confidence levels high following such a dominant victory,

Sanchez seemed odds on favourite to take a second win when Race 2 rolled around, and while the youngster was in fact able to make it two from two it was a much more closely contested competition. Unfortunately Race 1 podium sitter Rivera was ruled out in a crash on Lap 4, a real pity considering her excellent performance throughout the weekend. Meanwhile, new names were ready to rise up the ranks, and a hard-charging Cameron Swain was determinedly carving his way through the field. The Australian took the final spot on the podium, while an equally impressive Mario Salles (Brazil) managed to better the fourth place he achieved in Race 1 when he charged through to a great second. Italian star Pucci suffered a crash in the closing stages of the

race which brought out the red flag and halted the race prematurelyhe thankfully avoided serious injury, although he was taken to hospital.

The Top 3 in the final standings of the R3 SuperFinale were Sanchez, Salles and Swain.

Sanchez will now be given a fully supported ride in next year’s R3 bLUcRU European Championship series, which runs alongside selected rounds of the FIM Superbike World Championship. Alberto Surra (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) followed the two over the line, and those three riders were the main protagonists in Race 2. Later in the day, Orradre did manage to get the win in fine fashion in what has proved a breakthrough weekend, while it was Surra who came second, and Cardelus third after an epic three-way battle for the win. There were twists and turns at every corner in the European Talent Cup race in Barcelona. Championship leader Max Quiles (Aspar Junior Team) started at the back of the grid, while his main rival Brian Uriarte (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) launched from pole. However, Quiles found himself among the lead group after just a few laps while Uriarte ended up in the gravel, ending his victory charge. The drama continued onto the last lap, with Quiles’ teammate Dodo Boggio attempting an ambitious move at Turn 10, only for the Italian to wipe out his teammate and Rico Salmela (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0). As a result, Pini profited enormously to take the win and enter the title picture heading to Aragon.

Eric Fernandez (FAU55 Racing Team) applied the pressure from behind, and even took the lead on the last lap after a brilliant Turn 10 maneuver, but Muñoz showed his x-factor with a Valentino Rossi-like overtake at the final corner to secure a sensational win. Dino Iozzo (IUM Motorsports) ran with the top two in the title race, and claimed a superb P3. In SuperBike the qualifying saw French rider Jean Luc David and the Italian Maurizio Bottalico have the same time. In the first race Bottalico managed to pull away from David, but only with a time difference of 0,7 sec. and a speed difference of 1 km/h. The track included two chicanes to keep the speed down on the straights: if a rider went over the chicane, it was a track limit violation with a penalty of 3 seconds. In race 2 Bottalico crossed the chicane losing the first position and giving the win to David. Now they are both leader of the standings with 45 points. The final score will be settled at the final event in September.

Double win for Carmine Matarazzo in SuperMoto class.

THE BAD WEATHER AFFECTED THE EVENT IN SWEDEN

Unlucky weekend for the Dragbike European Championship, that stopped in Tierp for the second round in a row and the third round of the season.

For the second time in a row the city of Tierp hosted the Dragbike European Championship. Unfortunately, it has been a tough weekend because of the severe weather in the whole Scandinavia. In fact, Storm Hans has swept over Norway and Sweden, terrorizing these countries. And we know that rain and Dragracing are not the world's best friend.

However, above all expectations, the organizer has managed to get most of the racing done. Against all odds and in an uphill battle, 3 rounds of qualifying have been laid down on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, on Sunday the weather got even worse. The scheduled start of the elimination

rounds had to be postponed time after time and the first rounds only started at 16:00 instead of the programmed 10:00.

The audience saw good racing with some remarkable performances showing the skills and determination of both the racers and the track crew until 20:00, time set by the Government to make noise. The event ended up after the Semi Finals with the following racers. In Top Fuel Bike the two finalists were Rikard Gustafsson (5.98) from Sweden and Kari Rautanen (7.86) from Finland. In Super Twin Bike the two finalists were Marcus Christiansen (6.32) from Denmark and Per Bengtsson (6.61) from Sweden. In Super Street Bike the two were Daniël Donat Lencses (6.80) from Hungary and Mathias Bohlin (6.93) from Sweden. In Pro Stock Bike the two were Bertrand Maurice (7.69) from France and Theodor Vik (7.73) from Norway.

In occasion of this second round the Championship had a new live results system with also the championship standings (trial-live.eu). The same system will be also available for the next and last event in Sweden, scheduled for next weekend. Despite the rain the Moto Club of Hobol did a great job preparing a very selective and well-prepared sections, not dangerous, but extremely muddy and slippery.

In the opening day of action 132 riders started the race: Trial European Championship (61 riders in 4 classes), Women’s Trial European Championship (31 riders in 2 classes), Youth Trial European Championship (40 riders in 2 classes). On Sunday 128 riders took part to the race.

SWEDISH ROUND AWARDS THE 2023 CHAMPIONS

ROUND 19TH - 20TH AUGUST #03 GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN

The third and last round of the Trial European Championship was raced in Ale, Sweden.

An important weekend for the series as after the race in Italy at the beginning of July and last week’s competition in Norway, the Swedish round crown the 2023 Champions.

Once more almost 130 riders took part at the event for a weekend of fight and excitement, proving the success of this European Championship.

First in the standings with a lead of 60 points, French rider Teo Colario moved from Norway to Sweden confident in the fight for the title. With two triumphs in the previous rounds, his goal should be to keep on the race for the gold medal, but he had not reckoned with home hero Jarand Matias

Vold Gunvaldsen. The Swedish rider performed well in front of his home fans and ruled the weekend taking two outstanding victories ahead of German Paul Reumschussel and Noè Petralli. With a double third position Colario took 140 points, while Vold Gunvaldsen 200 points: finishing tied on points and with the same win, second and third positions, the double win in the last round allow Paul Reumschussel to grab the title. Silver medal for Colario and bronze for Swiss rider Petralli.

In the Junior Cup category, the fight for the title was a matter between Swedish rider Sander Bjoraa and Italian Giacomo Brunisso. They both took a win, but P6 on Sunday and a good advantage in the standings were enough for Brunisso to become Champion. Bjoraa had to settle with the second final position ahead of Noel Johansson.

Dan Clark confirmed his leadership in the Over 40 Cup and was crowned European Champion. The British rider got one win and one second position, the same result of Finnish rider Jussi Haapanen, second in the standings. Third position for Staffan Floessel, double third this weekend.

In the Women Championship one win each for British Kaytlyn Adshead and Italian Alessia Bacchetta, but British rider Alice Minta managed to take the European title thanks to P3 on Saturday, P2 on Sunday and the good performances in the previous rounds.

Thrilling season finale in the Youth Class too, with an all-German fight. Fabio Sacht and Johannes Heidel finished tied on points: with two win each, Sacht took the title thanks to three second positions. Bronze medal for Echene Pablo.

REMEMBERING JøRGEN BITSCH

The FIM Europe is saddened to inform about the recent passing of Jørgen Bitsch, the President of the Danish Motor Union (DMU) since 2009. Jorgen finally succumbed to his injuries on 5th August 2023, which he had sustained as the result of a motocross accident two weeks previous.

Jørgen was passionate about all aspects of motorcycling, having been long associated with two wheels as a rider, a spectator, an event organiser and as a member of the FIM, FIM Europe and DMU in several different roles, having first joined his National Federation in 1975. Mr Bitsch has been FIM Europe Vice President from 2010 to 2012 and member of the FIM Board of Directors from 2012 to 2020.

Mr Bitsch was a former Sidecar Motocross Grand Prix winner and regular top ten finisher overall in the FIM Sidecar Motocross Championship during the mid-eighties through to the early nineties, with his best ranking being

fourth in the series in 1988. Jørgen remained an active solo motocross rider throughout his life and continued to ride both modern and classic bikes on a regular basis right up until his sad passing.

In addition to heading up two Danish motocross clubs, namely Frederiksborg Amts Motorklub and Fredensborg-Humlebæk Moto Cross Klub, Jørgen was also appointed the Chairman of the Danish Speedway League in 2022. His missions included bringing professionalism to the sport, developing young talent, and the progression of elite riders, however his key focus was always rider safety, as he looked for the DMU to lead by example on this topic and others amongst the national and international Federations.

A popular and familiar figure within the motorcycling community, Jørgen will be hugely missed by the entire FIM Europe Family, who extends its condolences to his family and many friends at this difficult time.
