The City of Knox is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Knox had a population of approximately 136,230 as at the 2019 Report which includes 13,072 business and close to 59,000 households. The City of Knox was created through the amalgation the former Cities of Ringwood and Croydon in December 1994.

The Find Knox is a community paper that aims to support all things Knox. We want to provide a place where all NotFor-Profits (NFP), schools, sporting groups and other like organisations can share their news in one place. For instance, submitting up-and-coming events in the Find Knox for Free. We do not proclaim to be another newspaper and we will not be aiming to compete with other news outlets. You can obtain your news from other sources. We feel you get enough of this already. We will keep our news topics to a minimum and only provide what we feel is most relevant topics to you each month. We invite local council and the current council members to participate by submitting information each month so as to keep us informed of any changes that may be of relevance to us, their local constituents.
We will also try and showcase different organisations throughout the year so you, the reader, can learn more about what is on offer in your local area. To help support the paper, we invite local businesses owners to sponsor the paper and in return we will provide exclusive advertising and opportunities to submit articles about their businesses. As a community we encourage you to support these businesses/columnists. Without their support, we would not be able to provide this community paper to you. Doctor sentenced for failing to lodge tax returns and BAS The ATO has reported that a Western Australia doctor has been sentenced to 7 months' jail and placed on a good behaviour bond for failing to comply with court orders to lodge 18 outstanding income tax returns and BAS. In February 2020, the doctor was convicted at the Perth Magistrates Court and fined $50,000 for failing to provide the ATO with the outstanding income tax returns and BAS. The doctor was also ordered to make the outstanding lodgments within 2 months. However, he failed to lodge, and was prosecuted once more. The ATO said the doctor will be released from jail after 2 months, upon entering into a $10,000 recognisance to be of good behaviour for the remainder of his sentence. As part of the good behaviour bond, he will need to lodge each of the outstanding tax returns and BAS.

Austra lia is going to the Polls Warren Strybosch
On the 21st of May Australians will go to the polls to decide which party will form the next federal election. It will be Albanese first time leading the Labor party in an election since becoming Opposition Leader in 2019. Albanese took office at age 56 and is the oldest first-time Opposition Leader in 59 years, since Arthur Calwell (age 63) took office in 1960. If Albanese wins office, he will be the 31st Australian Prime minister and he will follow the likes of Kevin Rudd who was replaced by Julia Gillard, the first female prime minister of Australia, only to be replaced by Rudd a few years later after she backflipped on the carbon tax scheme. Unfortunately, for Albanese, he has not one of those leaders who has stood out over the years. In fact, a lot of people, until recently would have not known who the Opposition Leader of Australia was. It does not bear well for Albanese as he is an unknow quantity and has not warmed himself to the Australian people thus far.
Unfortunately, Labor has an uphill battle, and it will be interesting to see if Labor has to joins ranks with the Greens and possibly Clive Palmer to try and secure government. Labor is hoping they will get the numbers but given Albanese is not really leadership material, it will be interesting to see if Labor can pull something out of the bag come this election. Whereas Mr Morrison is seeking the Coalition's fourth term in office and whilst he might not be liked by everyone in Australia, is a well-known figure who has demonstrated he can make decisions in a crisis. The Coalition re-election theme is one of economic trust and pointing out that if Labor gets in, they are likely to ruin Australia’s economy after it has struggled through tough times of late. Then if you add the Greens and Palmer into the mix, the question will be, will Labor actually be running the country, or will the Greens and Palmer be pulling the strings? The other issue Labor faces is that Australian’s don’t easily forget what has happened over the last few years,
especially in Victoria. With ‘Dictator Dan’ as he was coined during pandemic, Victorians were forced out of work, could not be with their families when they were sick, nor attend the funerals of their loved ones, and it did not stop there. Labor created a society of the vaxxed versus the unvaxxed with the unvaxxed being treated like they were the undead. Ironically, just before the election, the rules surrounding the unvaxxed have nearly disappeared, yet COVID still abounds – maybe Labor is hoping to win the unvaxxed vote? And we have not even dicussed the increased mental health toll we are now facing nor the sexual grooming agenda that seems to be invading our primary schools, where children as young as nine are encouraged to go home and discuss their father’s ejaculation and masturbating habits. The Labor Premiers have a lot to answer for in a lot of areas. How will Australians vote? Many people we have spoken too are unsure how they will vote. In less than two weeks one thing will be for sure, someone will be in government. God help us all.

Having first mandated what type of bolts should be used on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Australian standards are now confronting new challenges in the digital economy and energy spaces. Up to 4000 new standards will be required over the next decade as Australia encounters energy challenges, digital threats and natural disasters, a new report says.

National Standards Adapt To New Challenges
About 10,000 Australian benchmarks have been developed over the past century, helping design and protect places and infrastructure including Parliament House and Melbourne’s tram network. “The pace and scope of change is accelerating, brought about by the digitisation of the global economy, innovation, scientific breakthroughs and evolving societal tastes,” Standards Australia chief executive Adrian O’Connell said. Thousands of new national standards will help with the transition to a digital economy, strengthen cyber attack systems, mitigate the impact of natural disasters and move toward alternative energy such as hydrogen, he says. “Without the right national standards in these areas, we risk falling behind the rest of the world in terms of best-safety practice. “This will require the collaboration of experts and the support of governments, industry and civic leaders.”
A cyber attack is encountered every eight minutes, costing the economy about $33 billion a year, Standards Australia says. The cost of natural disasters is expected to almost double by 2050, from about $20 billion currently to $39 billion. In the face of an increasing threat of natural disasters, National Housing Resilience Guides are being examined to show home owners how well equipped their homes are to withstand bushfires, cyclones and floods. The Iconic Nation Report, released on Monday, details how standards have helped safeguard the operation of Australia’s $1.8 trillion economy.
“Many Australians may not realise how many of our most treasured national icons are underpinned by Australian standards,” Mr O’Connell said. “These include the Port Lincoln tuna pens in South Australia, Port Arthur in Tasmania, Central Park Tower in Perth, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Sydney Opera House, Australian War Memorial and Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.” Cyber security, natural disasters, the environment, hydrogen energy and critical and emerging technologies are the five key areas identified in the new report. Standards Australia is the nation’s peak standards development organisation.

Director ID – A criminal offence if you do not apply in time Warren Strybosch
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is responsible for enforcing director ID offences set out in the Corporations Act 2001. It is a criminal offence if directors do not apply on time. The ATO will start contacting new directors to encourage them to apply for their director identification number (director ID). Directors who were appointed under the Corporations Act: • • •
before 1 November 2021, must apply by 30 November 2022. between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022, must apply within 28 days of being appointed. from 5 April 2022, must apply before being appointed.
Tax agents and accountants cannot apply for a client’s director ID on their behalf. A director must apply for a director ID themselves. The tax agent, bookkeeper or accountant can help their clients to apply for a director ID online by:

Cruise Ships Return After Two-Year Ban By (Australian Associated Press)
Australian authorities are lifting a ban on cruise liners that’s been in place since March 2020. NSW, Victoria and Queensland have outlined testing and vaccination requirements for passengers and crew in preparation for the ships to return. However, Tasmania is still reviewing whether such a move is safe for the island state. Peak body Cruise Lines International Association Australia says the lifting of the ban will be marked by
“a carefully managed resumption of operations” in a sector that previously supported more than 18,000 jobs. The first international ship scheduled to arrive, P&O Australia’s Pacific Explorer, will sail into Sydney Harbour on Monday morning in readiness for its return to service on May 31. It will be followed at the end of the month by Ponant’s Le Laperouse, which will begin operations between Darwin and Broome on April 28, joining local operators in time for the important Kimberley season.
“More than a million Australians took an ocean cruise every year before the pandemic and we now have an opportunity to return to sailing and revive an industry that was worth more than $5 billion annually to the Australian economy,” Cruise Lines Australasian managing director Joel Katz said. “While no setting is immune from COVID-19, the cruise industry’s new protocols provide among the highest possible levels of prevention, detection and mitigation.” The move comes despite COVID-19 infections remaining stubbornly high.
ATO Debts – They will get their money eventually The ATO will not always try to recoup debts owed by taxpayers immediately but place it on hold. This type of debt is called a non-pursued debt. A non-pursued debt is a debt that is not visible on the balance of a taxpayer’s account on the ATO portal. When a debt is placed on hold, the ATO do not undertake any collection action, usually because it is not economical for them to do so. A debt deemed uneconomical for collection action will be re-raised at a later date if the taxpayer becomes entitled to credits, which will be applied to reduce the balance, or if their circumstances change. So, if you see a debt removed from your tax portal account, don’t just assume the ATO has forgiven that debt. They just have placed it on hold and will most likely recoup it a later date.

ATO update on trust reimbursement agreements ACCOUNTANT By Warren Strybosch
In a media release on 5 May 2022, the ATO has “acknowledged there has been significant interest in its draft public advice and guidance relating to trust reimbursement agreements and unpaid present entitlements. In response to the level of community interest, the ATO said it will extend the public consultation period for the guidance, which ended on 29 April 2022. ATO Deputy Commissioner Louise Clarke said "the ATO is aware that the guidance – which has been long requested by the tax adviser community – has unsettled some in that community because it calls into question some practices which have been relatively longstanding". "The vast majority of small businesses operating through a trust are not operating in a way that will attract section 100A. A distribution to an adult child who has a low marginal tax rate will not attract section 100A where they simply receive or enjoy the benefit of their distribution". Ms Clarke clarified that the section can only apply where a distribution is made under an agreement where there will be a payment or other benefit provided to some other entity, that will typically have a higher tax rate than the beneficiary, where a purpose of that agreement is that someone will pay less income tax. "For example, where a full-time student receives an entitlement from a trust under an arrangement where they agree to immediately gift the entitlement back to the trustee". "The ATO does not make law. We have not changed section 100A; 100A remains as it always has been. What we have done is publish what is at this stage draft
guidance for consultation as to how we think the law applies,” Ms Clarke said. "The ATO's position is that if the beneficiary of the trust gets the benefit, 100A has no role to play. The ATO is not concerned about ordinary family trusts where the relevant family members benefit from the distributions". Similarly, Ms Clarke also noted that the ATO is not concerned when profits from the family business are distributed to members of the family who work in the management of the business and then that family member chooses to reinvest the profits in the business. The ATO will not be pursuing taxpayers that entered into arrangements between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2022 where, in good faith, they concluded that section 100A did not apply to them based on the previous 2014 guidance. "I want to reassure the community - we won't have a retrospective element. We stand by our 2014 guidance for this interim period,” Ms Clarke said. The ATO will carefully consider all submissions received during the consultation period as it finalises the package of public advice and guidance. A compendium of our responses to the feedback will also be published. The question is whether this will mean the end of discretionary trusts as a taxeffective vehicle? Lawyers are reminding accountants and family groups that the ATO does not make law and whilst they have released further guidance on the subject, it is yet to be made law and tested. They argue that there are many ‘common’ family arrangements involving discretionary trusts that will continue to be low risk. Some lawyers are going so far as to say that as long as the funds being distributed to the adult children are indeed being

distributed e.g., funds going into their bank account, and regardless of how those funds are being used, this should not incur s 100A and trustees should have nothing to worry about. Some lawyers are keen for the ATO to take this matter to court as they believe the ATO will lose. However, the ATO is off the opinion that just because something happens frequently, or is accepted as a common practice, doesn’t mean it is an ordinary commercial or family dealing for the purposes of s 100A, and may challenge distributions going to adult children. Now, we wait and see, and trustees will have to decide whether to distribute funds to adult children is worth the risk this financial year. Examples in the draft ruling include (but are not limited to) arrangements where: •
• • •
Distributions have been made to an adult child beneficiary and the entitlement to the funds representing those distributions have been applied for the benefit of another person (usually the parents), Where an entitlement to income has been ‘gifted’ back to the trustee (or a parent) or otherwise forgiven, Where there is a circular flow of funds (e.g., where the trust is a shareholder in a corporate beneficiary); and, Where a trust acquires an equity interest in a corporate beneficiary under a share buy-back arrangement involving members of the family group (often the parents).
The ruling, whilst still in draft form and has raised some concerns amongst taxation professionals given the ATO have been working on draft s 100A guidance for more than 6 years. The lack of certainty for trustees and beneficiaries around the ATO’s tax administration approach will no doubt cause concern and may leave trustees at risk of assessments arising from distributions that are made going forward. Trustees should consider speaking to their accountant or lawyer with regard to s 100A if they have any concerns or doubts about their current trust distribution arrangements.

How Valuable Is Your Breastmilk? LACTATION CONSULTANT By Dr. Joanna Strybosch
An exciting new Tool has just been launched called the Mothers’ Milk Tool. It has been created by Australian National University (ANU) researchers in partnership with Alive and Thrive and FHI Solutions, and it allows individual mothers to calculate the value of the milk they have produced for their child. The Mothers’ Milk Tool quantifies the volume of breastmilk and value of breastfeeding at individual, national and global levels, as well as how much is lost if country environments and policies, or healthcare, work and community settings do not enable women’s and children’s rights to breastfeeding. “The value of breastfeeding is poorly recognised,” said the ANU’s Dr Julie Smith. “Breastfeeding and mothers’ milk is presently not counted in food systems or the economy, but it should be. The Mothers’ Milk Tool will help.” Breastfeeding contributes importantly to a countries food supply and food security. Countries can rely on the human milk produced by breastfeeding women – from mother to baby is the worlds shortest and most reliable baby food supply chain. In countries which do not provide enabling environments for breastfeeding there is a high percentage of lost milk. In countries where breastfeeding is common such as Ireland or the United Kingdom, around 80% of this crucial potential food supply is lost. In the United States, Brazil, Norway and Australia around two thirds of the capacity to provide human milk is lost due to in adequate protection, promotion and support for breastfeeding. Global Human Milk Production Facts: •

Globally approximately 35.6 billion litres of breastmilk are provided each year by the world’s mothers for their babies 0-36 months. Around 38% of the potential global breastmilk is currently forfeited due to inadequate breastfeeding practices.

Nearly 29.1 billion litres of breastmilk is “lost” or forfeited each year from inadequate breastfeeding, which has a monetary value of US$2.2 trillion.
Dr Smith said that if the value of breastfeeding is not visible it is harder to make a case for funding the policies and programs to protect, promote and support breastfeeding. Money is the language of policymakers. Counting human milk production in food and economic statistics will assist in better policy decision-making and investments in women’s unpaid care work. “Counting human milk is a way to value and recognise how much women add to the food system, economy and society through the care of infants and young children. When countries do not count breastfeeding or human milk in production statistics, the extent of
women’s productivity and contributions to society goes unnoticed.” The Mothers’ Milk Tool is free and can be downloaded. It has been launched to coincide with Mother’s Day to acknowledge the role, health and economic contribution of mothers to society through women’s unpaid care work, including breastfeeding. Farmers are being urged to be on the look out for mice in their paddocks amid reports of increased numbers of the rodents across Australia’s cropping regions. CSIRO says farmers have reported increased mice activity in northern NSW, central Queensland, north western Victoria, the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia and the wheat belt in Western Australia. CSIRO research scientist Steve Henry told AAP it can be difficult to notice growing numbers of mice before it becomes too late to combat them. “Farmers need to get out of their vehicles and walk through their paddocks to see signs of mouse activity,” Mr Henry said. “We haven’t reached plague proportions but we are getting reports of higher numbers across the cropping zone and
farmers need to be prepared to take action to reduce numbers as they sow the winter crop.” Millions of dollars worth of crops were destroyed during last year’s mouse plague in NSW and southern Queensland, which also caused extensive damage to farm machinery, vehicles and buildings.
“Let’s make sure we all get out of the ute and into the paddock to make sure we avoid another plague,” he said on Monday. Some farmers have increased baiting in a bid to suppress mice numbers. The NSW government introduced a rebate for zinc phosphide bait last year.
Mr Henry said mice are most likely to be in the unharvested summer crops, and in the winter crop stubble where grain has been left behind.
CSIRO data indicated patchy numbers of mice across NSW but Mr Martin said farmers were reporting more rodents running around their properties.
“As it gets colder mice are also seeking shelter and are coming into houses and other buildings,” he said.
“What we don’t want to see is a repeat of last year’s mouse plague, so please if you see something, say something,” he said.
NSW Farmers Vice President Xavier Martin has urged farmers to survey their properties for signs of rodent activity in a bid to avoid a repeat of last year.
One third of farmers surveyed by NSW Farmers estimated their losses at between $50,000 and $150,000 during last year’s inundation.

Superannuation - Some rule changes from July 2022 you need to be aware of FINANCIAL PLANNING By Warren Strybosch
The superannuation system is always changing and this makes Australian’s nervous to place their trust in it. However, not all changes are bad news. The new reforms will benefit quite a few Australians and hopefully help them have more in retirement. Many of the changes were originally announced in the May 2021 Federal Budget but took quite a while to make their way through both houses of Parliament. Some only passed in the dying days prior to Parliament rising for the 2022 Federal Election. A. Increase in Super Guarantee percentage For everyone who is entering the work force, the increase in the Super Guarantee (SG) will likely mean they will never have to worry about their retirement in the future. This ‘forced saving’ plan, over a 40-year period for those young adults, will provide a good nest egg for them, and it will also reduce a lot of pressure of the social security system. From 1 July 2022, the percentage rate for the Super Guarantee (SG) increases from 10% to 10.5%. Employers need to be aware of the increase and will be required to contribute additional money into their employees’ super accounts. Under current laws, the percentage rate will rise again to 11% on 1 July 2023. It will continue rising 0.5% each year until it reaches its final rate of 12% on 1 July 2025. B. Removal of the $450 monthly SG threshold This is a win for those earning low incomes who are over 18 years of age. Commencing 1 July 2022, the $450 monthly minimum wage threshold to qualify for employer Super Guarantee contributions will be abolished. This scrapping of the monthly threshold amount means employers are now required to make super contributions for all their employees (including casual
and part-time employees) regardless of how much they earn. For those under 18 and working less than 30 hours a week, this measure will not apply to them. C. Reduction in eligibility age for downsizer contributions For those selling their principal home after age 60, should consider the downsizer contribution. The eligibility age for making downsizer contributions into super was reduced from 65 years to 60. This type of contribution does not impact the concessional or nonconcessional caps. From 1 July 2022, more people in their sixties can make contributions (up to $300,000 per person or $600,000 per couple) into their super account using the downsizer measure, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. D. Increase in age limit for voluntary super contributions Have you already retired and received an inheritance? Would you like to place those funds into super? Well, for those under age 75, now you can. From 1 July 2022, anyone aged 67 to 74 who wishes to make a non-concessional, voluntary super contribution is no longer required to meet the work test (or work test exemption) to be eligible to make the contribution. The other normal eligibility criteria such as a Total Super Balance (TSB) of less than $1.7 million and sufficient unused annual nonconcessional contributions cap still apply. The only exception is for people wishing to make a personal contribution into their super account and then claiming a tax deduction for the contribution. This type of personal concessional contribution still requires the contributor to meet the work test (or work test exemption). E.Increase in age limit for salarysacrifice contributions The age limit for making salary-sacrifice contributions into super without needing to meet the work test has also been increased from age 68 to 74. This means from 1 July 2022 eligible salary-sacrifice

arrangements into super are available to anyone aged under 75 without the need to meet a work test. The other normal eligibility criteria such as a TSB of less than $1.7 million and sufficient unused annual non-concessional contributions cap still apply. F. Increase in age limit for bringforward rule Older super fund members who want to make a large non-concessional contribution into their super account can now do so from 1 July 2022. The reform lifts the cut-off age for using the bringforward rule to under 75 from under 67 previously. This means people up to age 74 can use up to three years’ worth of their nonconcessional (after-tax) contribution caps over a shorter period. Eligibility to use the bring-forward rule will still depend on the contributor’s TSB at 30 June of the previous year and the total of personal contributions over the past two financial years. G. Increase in First Home Super Saver Scheme (FHSSS) limit From 1 July 2022, the maximum amount of eligible contributions that can be released through the First Home Super Scheme (FHSS) increases from $30,000 to $50,000. However, the annual limit for voluntary contributions eligible for the scheme remains at $15,000 per financial year. H. Temporary reduction in super pension minimum drawdowns The government has extended the temporary reduction in the minimum drawdown rates by 50% for accountbased pensions and similar products in the 2022–23 income year. I. Changes to the Home Equity Access Scheme (HEAS) Following passage of the Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment (Pension Loans Scheme Enhancements) Act 2022, older Australians who have applied to use the government’s HEAS can access lump sum advance payments from 1 July 2022. The maximum advance is capped at 50% of the maximum annual rate of their pension (including pension and energy supplements and rent assistance). The legislation also introduced a no negative equity guarantee for HEAS participants to ensure participants with an outstanding loan balance on or after 1 July 2022 will not have to repay more than the equity they have in the property used to secure their loan. ATO scrutiny of family trust arrangements On 23 February 2022, the ATO released TR 2022/D1 and PCG 2022/D1 in relation to distributions made by trustees of discretionary trusts. This was complemented by TA 2022/1, which discusses parents benefitting from the trust entitlements of the adult children. All 3 documents focus on schemes where income is diverted from an intended beneficiary in order to reduce tax liabilities. The rulings discuss these at detail and include significant attention to an important carve out for dealings that are “ordinary family or commercial” dealings. These dealings are excluded from the anti-avoidance provisions. Trustees need to make sure that their

distributions are in accordance with the expectations of the ATO, otherwise they may be subject to an audit. Helping them understand their obligations is paramount coming up to the end of the current income year.
Low and middle income tax offset The low and middle income tax offset (LMITO) was introduced in the 2018 Federal Budget to commence from 1 July 2018. The offset runs in conjunction with the low income tax offset as a targeted reduction of income tax for Australian residents. Originally due to run over 4 years, in the 2020 Federal Budget phase 2

SA COVID-19 stimulus and relief package Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Australian Government has implemented a range of stimulus payments for residents and businesses. From December 2021, density restrictions in place may have meant that your client may have experienced a decline in turnover. These support measures included: •

automatic payments for gym who qualified for the Additional COVID-19 Business Support Grant

One-off cost of living payment for social security recipients In its response to the current COVID-19 lockdowns across August 2021, the Queensland Government implemented support grants for businesses across the state. The support packages were jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland governments. Grants of up to $15,000 were available to eligible small and medium businesses across all industries. Support payments of up to $30,000 were available to large hospitality and tourism businesses impacted by the border closure. Applications for this grant closed in November 2021. Rules on election signs VicRoads is responsible for approving and enforcing signs on major roads. One political sign of up to five square metres in area can be displayed on a private property for up to three months. On both public and private land, signs can remain no longer than 14 days after an election. It is a permit holder’s responsibility to remove signs. A federal election is in the air – the signs are everywhere. Knox City Council has received a number of complaints about the placement of election signs. Council manages the placement of election signs on Council land through its Amenity Local Law. It does not manage signs on major roads, which is the responsibility of VicRoads. State planning provisions set the rules for signs on private property.
On Council land, permits are required for signs and the distribution of election material. Election signs up to 900mm x 600mm can be displayed on pre-approved sites on Council land in accordance with permit conditions detailed in the Election Signage Rules available on Council’s website here. Council’s requirements state a candidate can have one sign per site. Candidates can also apply for a permit to display signage at sites not covered by the above pre-approved locations.
While some political parties have applied for permits to display election signage on Council land, others have erected signs without a permit resulting in Council issuing directions to remove signage. Some signs have been impounded and infringements may be issued. Complaints about signs can be sent to knoxcc@knox.vic.gov.au or lodged as an online enquiry. Learn To Spend Again

Many retirees say that they do not spend on the grounds that they “could run out of money”. They prefer to leave their assets untouched. Now this is mindset is a carry-over from an earlier time, and as such should be re-examined in the light of modern circumstances. Prior to retirement, the emphasis is on accumulation, but after retirement, with accumulation or – at least – a pension having been achieved, it’s time to spend. But too many retirees simply can’t make the switch. The religion of Saving is too ingrained. But surely retirement is a time for a feeling of enjoyment, when we able to develop all those projects that we have previously deferred. This is the time when we should cultivate an enthusiasm for living, as the bleak routine of earlier years is now behind us. Spending in moderation is quite OK – you really can’t enjoy the grandchildren unless you spend something on them, and for the more energetic, there is a cost of course in just becoming a grey nomad.
So moderate spending is good, but you have to work at it. Most corporates don’t market to retirees, because of the prevailing attitude that retirees don’t spend. This is unfortunate as retirees can then be lulled into missing out on simple pleasures. Here are some personal examples from my network of friends: One lady, who has terminal cancer, doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t gamble and treats herself to one indulgence every day. She buys a coffee and sits on the cliffs watching the water, the birds, the sand and is at peace with herself. A small outlay (from her modest savings) to be at one with herself.
Saving for the children The concept of saving “something for the children” is also discredited today, as when their inheritance occurs, most will already be financially secure. And most likely they will be close to retirement themselves. So retirees shouldn’t save on their behalf – particularly as over half of the population won’t experience their “estate event” (death) until we are well into our 90s. At which time, your children will be into their sixties, and won’t be needing your money. So, let’s join the campaign to become a modern elder – and learn to spend.
Perhaps she fits the advertisers’ profile of who seniors are. But another couple - who used to travel to exotic overseas destinations pre covid – now is content to explore Australia. They’re quite distant from being members of the affluent “self-funded retirees” club, but at least they’re enjoying retirement, and spending on their own terms. They made the effort to find enjoyment locally, and are not afraid to spend.

Present Find Card You are required to present your Find Card at any participating businesses if you wish to secure the discount or goods/service being offered.
Authentication Code & Customer Signature All Find Cards must display an Authentication Code and a members signature to be deemed VALID. If your Find Cards does not display your signature and the correct code, the business can refuse to provide the discount offer advertised. You will receive your Authentication code after registering your Find Card.

Valid Find Cards have four folds and contain six different categories. Valid Find Cards will have its Regions logo sticker placed in the circle at the back and has an Authentication code display in front of the Find Cards
NOT VALID
Find Cards that DO NOT display its Regions Sticker in the circle at the back and DO NOT display an Authentication code in front of the Find Card are INVALID. They will not be accepted at any participating businesses. Also, your signature must be present. You may be asked to present ID to verify that Find Card belongs to you.
