I had a cat,

a cat like any other.

And he did what every cat does… eating…

‌ and sleeping.

My cat liked watching TV‌

‌ especially nature documentaries.

And also playing with wool skeins ‌

He always loved being petted‌

But above all, he liked gazing at the stars.

One day, birds started catching his attention.

From then on he was climbing trees more often‌ too often even.

With foreseeable consequences.

Then for days he would seem to have gone back to normal‌

... only to resume his new activity soon after.

Climbing up higher and higher trees...

Most of the time, with similar results ...

My cat never caught a bird.

Throughout the years my cat kept climbing up trees‌

During the day he would contemplate the birds in flight...

‌ at night he would lose himself in the starry night.

When he was not there anymore I didn’t feel sadness, because I knew a glance up at the night sky was all I needed.

That is where he would be, in that vast and endless sea where the stars dwell.
