I. Introduction First of all, we are proud to know that you are coming to Tanzania! Congratulations for being selected and we are sure that you are going to have a wonderful experience! This reception guide has been designed to hopefully answer all of your questions and queries about coming to Tanzania and about what you will need while you are here. However, if you have any more questions that we haven’t answered, feel free to contact us and we will do our best to answer your questions. We, LC UDOM are looking forward to see you soon in Tanzania!

II. Communicating with Us To help you make the most of your time here in Tanzania, we want to make you feel comfortable as possible. For this to happen we need you to tell us how we can help you. Throughout your stay, there will be events organized and meetings planned and organized by our LC, it is important for all interns to participate in these events and meeting and apply to be in OC team as a way to double your experience here in Tanzania. There will be also social events and parties that we hope you will enjoy. To find out about these events it is important that we stay in touch! Also, if you have any problems, we can only help you if we know about them. Your main point of contact within the LC will be your trainee buddy but you can contact any of us at any time! The basic tools of communication will be the trainee mailing lists and our Facebook group and Mobile Phones (visit our blog www.afrikidstz.blogspot.com to see LC EB’s Contacts).

Your trainee buddy in our LC Any time before your arrival in Tanzania and any time during your internship feel free to contact your trainee buddy and if your trainee buddy is not available for some reasons, please approach the Exchange Quality Manager or LCVP GCDPi. We are all here to help you and make your stay in Tanzania as successful as possible. 2. Trainees’ List All our EPs should subscribe in our trainee Guest Book after they arrive in LC and also in our mail list to receive news about the events of the current Tanzanian Trainees. This mailing list is the best tool to be part of the trainee community. Please remind your trainee buddy to ask the Reception Coordinator to subscribe you to both the national trainee list and the trainee list of our LC! III. The most important things... 1. Visa cases For one to come to Tanzania he/she is required to have a VISA. The visa can be obtained in our embassy in the countries where our interns come from, and in case there is no embassy in the trainee’s country, he/she will be granted a visa as soon as he/she arrives in airport here in Tanzania. 4 © AIESEC UDOM 2013

2. Your internship. The minimum duration for trainee to take in his/her internship is 6 weeks and the maximum period is 78 weeks 3. Food and Accommodation All of Our trainees are supposed to pay 100$ for the accommodation cost during his minimum living time (6 weeks) and trainee has also to prepare his/her own internal transport cost and food costs during the time of internship

4. In case your internship is extended… In case Intern wants to extend his/her internship, he/she have to communicate with exchange manager and make sure that all the required permit are kept up to date, i.e. VISA and return fair ticket

5 Things to do just after your arrival After your arrival in Tanzania you have to expect the following things to do (your trainee buddy will help you to do them… •

Buy a Tanzanian SIM card (required)

1. Transportation After our intern arrive in Mwalimu Nyerere international Airport they will border a tax to the nearest LC which is AIESEC UDSM where they will be hosted for a day, and the next day they will be supposed to border a Bus to Dodoma Region where our LC is located Also when in Tanzania one can use different kind of transport which includes the following: Public Transport This is transport used by public. In public transport one can pay only 400 Tanzania Shilling from 0 to 10 Km By taxi: They take you anywhere, you only have to know the place. The taxi is quite expensive, but the public transport is really good, so you can go everywhere by the public transport. Boda Boda. This is kind of transport which use motorcycle from one point to another, it is kind of cheaper when compared to tax.

2. Telephone In Tanzania we have four mobile network companies, Vodacom Tanzania, Airtel, Zantel and Tigo Tanzania. For the one to dial a long-distance number within Tanzania first you have to make sure that you have entered the area code and then the local number of the place that you want to make a call... The country code for Tanzania is +255, so to reach a number from abroad you have to dial +255, and then the number of the person you want to call. You will be provided a SIM card, but we suggest you to use the phone of your own. Of course, if you cannot solve it, you can buy a cheap phone here as well.

3. Money The Tanzanian currency is Tanzania Shilling.

One can exchange dollar to Tsh

easily. However, currency exchange can be obtained easily at the airport on arrival. One also can change money in one of the change places (Bureau De Change) in the town and Banks. Visa and MasterCard are the main credit cards, but you can withdraw cash from ATMs with some other cards as well i.e Maestro or Western Union. They can also be used in some hotels, shops and restaurants. Tanzanian Shillings.

4. Accommodation In Tanzania interns are accommodated in LCs House. Usually 2 to 4 interns live in one room during their internships. Accommodation fees are collected as soon as intern arrive to the LC.

5. Company (TN Takers) We will show you where you are working and how to get there before the first day of starting your internship. Someone will also go with you on your first day to make sure you get there and meet the right people! Throughout the duration of your traineeship, we will be in contact with you and the company to make sure that everything is going smoothly on both sides.

6. Geography Dodoma Located at 6°10′23″S 35°44′31″E Coordinates: 6°10′23″S 35°44′31″E, in the centre of the country, the town is 486 kilometres (302 mi) west of the former capital at Dar es Salaam and 441 kilometres (274 mi) south of Arusha, the headquarters of the East African Community. It covers an area of 2,669 square kilometres (1,031 sq mi) of which 625 square kilometres (241 sq mi) is urbanized.

6. Climate Dodoma features a semi-arid climate with relatively warm temperatures throughout the year. While average highs are somewhat consistent throughout the year, average lows dip to 13 °C (55.4 °F) in July. Dodoma averages 570 mm of precipitation per year, the bulk of which occurs during its wet season between November and April. The remainder of the year comprises the city’s dry season. 9. Uniqueness Dodoma is only place in Tanzania where there is cultivation of grapes and production of wine, and the best product of wine produced in Dodoma is DOMPO and others

V. About LC UDOM... AIESEC in UDOM HISTORY AIESEC UDOM was established on June 2010 in National Planning Conference as an extension of AIESEC MZUMBE. The founder was JOVITHA DAVIS as the first President of AIESEC UDOM and also with the collaboration with Local Chapter vice Presidents under different portfolios that is SIMON JOHN, FRANK JAPHET, RAPHAEL NONDI, HASNA ALLY, JOHN KUDEMA, and MOSES MUTENTE. Whereby were having 21 members at the beginning and at the end of june 2012 member’s number rose up to 60 members. In September 2013 AIESEC UDOM become a Full LC under the presidency of Husna Wakil and her Team.
