The Little Seed
Written and Illustrated by Shannon Lee Archary
One day a little bird, named Emily, went looking for some worms to eat, when she saw a sad little seed.
“What is wrong little seed?”, asked Emily.
“When will I be as big and beautiful as the other seeds that grow in the ground?”, cried the little seed. “Soon!” said Emily.
Emily picked the little seed and carried him to a special place in the garden. She carefully put him in the soil.
The little seed started to soak the water from the soil. He began to swell and burst through his skin.
Then he started to grow roots that spread into the soil. He was stuck in the ground!
A little stem started to grow from the seed. It pushed through the soil until it was sticking out of the ground.
The big yellow sun was shining in the sky and warmed the little plant.
The next day, the sun suddenly became too hot. The little plant was thirsty and began to wilt.
Soon a gentle rain fell from the sky. The little seed enjoyed the cool water. Its roots sucked the water into the stem and leaves.
When Emily went to visit the little seed, she could not find him. “Emily, I’m over here!”, shouted the little seed.
“The soil, sun and water helped me to grow from a seed into a plant!, exclaimed the little seed.
It soon grew into a big and beautiful flower with bright red petals.
