The Missing Penguin By Maureen Els

• It was last year in the year 2013 that a recycled penguin up on the wall went missing! He had been made by some children who were recycling plastic water bottles. Here is a picture of them up on the wall.

A little boy asked if he could have the penguin on the right. He took home his new penguin. At home the penguin was placed on a shelf next to a few other toys. At first the penguin was lonely without the other penguins but he soon made friends. One day the penguin saw his new owner reading a book about other countries. In a country far away from where he lived was a land of ice and snow. There were many birds that looked like he did, except that they were real.

• These penguins were called Emperor Penguins. The recycled penguin, who still had no name, told the other toys about these real live penguins in the book. They were interested to hear about them and gave him the name Emperor. He liked that!
