Punjab opts for 7.30 am-2 pm timings for govt offices from May
Chandigarh (PTI): Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said his government has decided to change office timings from 7.30 am to 2 pm from next month.
At present, the timings of the government offices is 9 am to 5 pm.
“The Punjab government has decided that from May 2, all the government offices will open at 7.30 am and close at 2 pm,” Mann said in a video message.
The new office timing will remain in force till July 15, he said.

Smuggled wildlife products, including forest trees, worth Rs 37 crore were seized by different agencies from the Siliguri corridor of West Bengal during the last one-year, the state forest department said.
In terms of the value of products seized during the one year, the maximum was from smuggled forest trees, which accounted for Rs 13 crore.
Besides trees, other smuggled wildlife goods seized include, pangolins, pangolin-skin, tiger and leopard cubs, tiger and bear skins, porcupine, rare species of geckos, snake venom, elephant tusks and rhinoceroses’ horns etc. Majority of the seizures have been in areas coming under Belakoba

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu health department will conduct a mock drill to assess the preparedness in curbing the possibilities of a Covid-19 surge. The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in many districts of state have touched above 5.
Health Minister Ma Subramanian expressed confidence in bringing things under control and told people not to worry about the slight increase in Covid cases. He has called upon people to strictly abide by the Covid protocol put forward by the government including wearing masks, safe distancing and washing hands regularly.
The Health Minister further said that the variant of Omicron that is present in the country was not lethal and hence called upon the people not to worry much but to be cautious.

Srinagar: Kiren Rijiju has escaped unhurt after his car was hit by a truck in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the police said. A truck hit his car near Ramban along JammuSrinagar highway. Video of the incident showed security men rushing to open doors of the Minister’s black Scorpio and getting people out.
Mann said the decision was taken following discussions with many people, including state government employees. He further said the change in office timings during summer will ease the load on electricity demand.
“Power utility Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has stated that peak load (of electricity) starts after 1.30 pm and if government offices are shut at 2 pm, then it will help in reducing peak load by 300 to 350 MW,” he said.
During the visit, she will hold talks with Sanjay Verma, secretary (West) in the External Affairs ministry, where both sides are expected to discuss bilateral relations, exchange views on the current situation in Ukraine and global issues of mutual interest.

Ram Navami violence: 7 surrender in Nalanda
Patna (Agencies): Fearing attachment of their property, seven people, accused of communal violence during Ram Navmi in Nalanda district, on Saturday surrendered before police.
As soon as district administration initiated process of attachment of property of the nine accused in the morning, seven of them, in- cluding Bajrang dal District convener Kundan Kumar, surrendered before police. The other accused who surrendered are identified as Krishna Kumar, Mohd Sheru, Mohd Chand, Mohd Rashid, Manish Verma and Sonu Verma.
