SILVERSTONE FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE CIRCUIT’S 75th ANNIVERSARY IN STUNNING STYLE

25-27 August 2023, Bank Holiday Weekend

This summer’s spectacular ‘Silverstone Festival’ will celebrate the world-famous circuit’s 75th anniversary in high octane style with special birthday races, parades and displays to mark this major milestone in British motorsport history. Silverstone Festival (previously known as The Classic) is an epic awardwinning event staged at the famous Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire: birthplace of the FIA Formula One World Championship and home to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The event regularly attracts close to 1,000 race entries and draws crowds of more than 100,000.

It was back in October 1948 that Silverstone hosted its very first race meeting, staged on the runways and perimeter roads of a former RAF bomber station (see original 1948 track map below). With the country’s other race circuits such as Brooklands and Donington inoperable post-WWII, Silverstone swiftly established itself as the home of British Motor Racing – a status it has been proud to hold ever since. That first race meeting back in 1948 was an International Grand Prix featuring all the sport’s top stars and fastest cars and, two years later, Silverstone had the further honour of hosting the very first round of the FIA World Championship for the newly inaugurated Formula One.

Celebrating the glorious past and the circuit’s present as the home of the annual British Grand

Prix, Silverstone Festival will put a special spotlight on 75 remarkable years right at the pinnacle of global motorsport. To mark this major milestone, a glittering parade of Grand Prix cars that have raced at Silverstone over the ages will be taking to the track on all three days of the Festival. This incredible ‘moving museum’ will stir memories, honouring past champions and lauding British Grand Prix winners from yesteryear.

The Historic Grand Prix Cars Association will be inviting a selection of 30 front-engined and 30 rear-engined F1 cars to race and, following one qualifying session on Friday for all 60 entrants, the weekend will witness three not-to-be-missed 20-minute races. One of these will be exclusively for front-engined cars with an evocative field of iconic Aston Martins, Ferraris, Maseratis and Scarabs all doing battle in The 75th Anniversary Grand Prix Trophy for Front Engine GP Cars. Back in the day, Formula Libre races were

always popular at Silverstone – not least as they were often the fastest on the bill – and their re-introduction at the Festival is certain to be another major attraction with a mesmerising mix of great pre-’78 and ground-effect F1, F5000, F2, F Atlantic, F3 and FF2000 cars expected. As well as masterminding the welcome return of Formula Libra, the Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) will also be bringing its Roads Sports and Thundersports grids to the Festival, ensuring further variety to a standout 20-race programme, which also includes all the well-established crowdpleasers.

Ever since the fifties, competition-prepared Jaguars have been huge crowd-pleasers at Silverstone and saluting this long association, the unrivalled roster of retro races at this summer’s Festival also features the Motor Racing Legends Big Cat Challenge Trophy – a showdown for pre’66 racing Jaguars including early E-types, D-types and C-types plus all XK models as well as Mk1 and Mk2 saloons.

At the other end of the timeline – and celebrating all eras of Silverstone’s distinguished history – the Masters GT Trophy will star a mouth-watering grid of exciting GT supercars that raced between 2007-2018 with Aston Martins, Audis, Ferraris, McLarens, Mercedes, Lamborghinis and Porsches all to the fore. Another exciting and evocative innovation being unveiled for the 75th birthday party is the addition of an Historic Formula Libre grid, open to a wide range of powerful single-seaters from the sixties and seventies. And that’s not all for car lovers – there will be a classic car auction plus huge showcases of classic cars from over one hundred car clubs, often celebrating important milestones in automotive history.

For those who prefer other activities to enjoy, there will be a Foodie Fest, Funfair, Shopping Village and interactive experiences or you can party all weekend with 3 nights of live music from chart-topping artists McFly, The Christians, ABC & Sugababes.

A wide range of tickets for the 2023 Silverstone Festival are now on sale, including camping and VIP hospitality options.

Highlights and trends from RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023: SUSTAINABILITY,

WILDLIFE AND WEEDS

This year’s show gardens let nature do the talking, as gardening editor Hannah Stephenson discovers.

Gardens featuring more weeds and less formality have taken centre stage at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, placing more emphasis on letting nature take control.

Native plants and trees, nettles, dandelions and a predominantly green palette of planting feature in many of the 36 show gardens, along with salvaged and upcycled materials. Elsewhere, huge bursts of colour remain in the Great Pavilion, while firsttime exhibitors include mushroom growers the Caley Bros.

This year’s show is likely to spark controversy, reckons garden designer Andrew Duff, co-chair of the Society of Garden Designers and managing director of the Inchbald School of Design.

“There’s a clear message about sustainability and environmental factors in an aesthetic way. There’s

a loss about actually, what is a garden supposed to do?” he says. “Right across the show, the inference is that nature’s taking control… maybe that it’s OK to let weeds grow and let things get a little bit ruinous.

“But at the end of the day, people like a lawn, they like to look after a space – that’s part of being in a garden – and it’s time that we need (to address) that controversy,” Duff adds.

Reflecting on the topic, Matthew Pottage, curator of RHS Garden Wisley, says: “We are having a climate crisis. We do need to garden environmentally sensitively. Is this the place to be showing that? It’s arguably the world’s best flower show, so this is the place.”

5 HIGHLIGHT GARDENS FROM THIS YEAR’S RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

Centrepoint Garden

Love it or hate it, this garden is likely to cause a stir with its partly demolished house, so-called ‘weeds’ and a fallen tree. Designer Cleve West has admitted it’s a ‘Marmite garden’ – people will love it or hate it.

“There’s a sense of abandonment, which is so

clever. Cleve West has done a partly demolished ruined house with the idea of nature taking over,” Duff observes. “He’s saying it’s a metaphor for what it is to be young and homeless. There are nettles and dandelion seedheads. It’s really going to question what beauty is in a plant – and I think we need to have that discussion.”

Nurture Landscapes Garden

If you’re looking to take home some plants with you, be inspired by the beautiful Benton irises in rich shades of pastels and deep yellows which you’ll see in designer Sarah Price’s Nurture Landscapes show garden, inspired by the artist and plantsman Cedric Morris.

Memoria and GreenAcres Transcendence Garden

Designers Gavin McWilliam and Andrew Wilson’s garden aims to deliver an uplifting spiritual space, reflecting the emotional experience at the end of life (it’s going to a bereavement site after the show).

“Controversially, they’ve used concrete, but with the idea that this concrete is going to be around for hundreds of years,” says Duff. “It’s not a single use concrete.

“It has a simple palette of planting, is cool and calm and you immediately feel rested. The minimal use of materials and colour palette was really special and a moment of calm in the entire show. It was a relief to get to it,” Duff adds.

Myeloma UK – A Life Worth Living Garden

Top designer Chris Beardshaw’s garden has a much more traditional garden feel, with a structured order in the colourful planting against a backdrop of clipped yew, including peonies and salvias, plus inspired woodland planting.

Horatio’s Garden

Putting wheelchair access at the forefront of their design, Charlotte Harris and Hugo Bugg (Harris Bugg Studio), have created the eighth garden for the eponymous charity, which builds gardens to improve the lives of people with spinal cord injury.

The wheelchair-accessible space, influenced by the ways of seeing from a bed or a wheelchair, features tactile stone cairn and a table water feature to encourage wildlife, while a garden pod provides a cocooning place for physical and emotional shelter. After the show it will be relocated to Sheffield’s Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre.

“There’s an incredible depth of planting, which is mind-blowingly beautiful, and beehives of warm cut stone which kind of replace topiary – they’ve made topiary out of stone,” says Duff.

TOP TRENDS

These are some of the key gardening trends to emerge from this year’s event.

Wildlife

“Unsurprisingly, there’s going to be the awareness of wildlife-friendly planting,” says Pottage.

JUNE 2023 31
“There’s an incredible depth of planting, which is mindblowingly beautiful”

“There’s lots of habitat in gardens, but hopefully showing that can be beautiful as well. There are lots of logpiles, lots of water, lots of native plants, but also lots of gardenesque planting.”

Reclaimed and reused

Crushed concrete, piles of rubble, bare sand, reused bricks and other recycled material dominate many of the show gardens’ pathways and form decorative features in several gardens. There’s a message to get gardeners thinking about how they might reuse materials, which formerly headed for the skip.

“All the gardens have a destination, which is really important,” says Pottage – the show gardens are all being relocated after the show.

Award-winning designer Tom Massey, who has this year designed The Royal Entomological Society Garden, predicts: “Reuse of waste materials is going to be a big thing.”

He uses crushed construction waste in his show garden, including crushed bricks and concrete to create a textured, aesthetic backdrop for the planting along with deadwood. “These waste materials are really good habitat for insects,” he points out.

Plants

People will be encouraged to grow native plants, from hazel to cow parsley, while those seeking colour may go for irises, which are prevalent at this year’s show. There’s also a resurgence of common yew (Taxus baccata) and other familiar plants including a cloud pine, Eleagnus ‘Quicksilver’

Drought-tolerant plants are also being pushed –some 55% of perennials in the show gardens are drought-tolerant, almost double that of last year, including fennel, salvia and cistus.

Weeds

Dandelions and other weeds feature in some of the gardens. Chelsea gold medallist Cleve West notes: “People get their knickers in a twist about weeds but they are the pioneer plants that stitch everything together.

“It’s just getting people to understand that all the things we kill with herbicides and pesticides can look quite beautiful,” West adds. “Just be more tolerant, and if you have a space where you can let nature take its course, it’s got to be good for wildlife and insects.”

Massey adds: “Dandelions are an early source of pollen and nectar for bees – and insects are in mass decline, so we need to be more considerate in the way we manage and maintain our gardens.”

Sculpture

“We are seeing nature becoming the sculpture,” says Duff, citing designer Sarah Price’s Nurture Landscapes Garden Mediterranean cloud pine. There are pillows of yew in the Memoria and GreenAcres Transcendence Garden.

Nods to the Royal Family abound, from bronze bust of the King in A Garden of Royal Reflection and Celebration, which features some of the Windsor family’s favourite plants including roses and camassia, plus several crowns featuring flora and fauna.

Standing at just under 7m is the biggest driftwood sculpture ever displayed at Chelsea, a Wyvern dragon perched on a tree, the centrepiece of sculptor James Doran-Webb’s exhibit.

And paying homage to the unsung heroines of horticulture at The Monument is the ‘Women in Horticulture’ exhibit honouring the likes of Janaki Ammal, Beth Chatto and Gertrude Jekyll.

Bigging up small spaces

Guy Barter, chief horticulturist for the RHS, says people are likely to be planting bigger trees on their balconies and also using drought-tolerant species. “This year there’s a pollinator section, a wildlife bath, and drought-resistant plants.”

VIP PROTECTION

Westminster Security is a private security company headquartered in its namesake - Westminster, central London. They were established at the turn of the millennium after recognising a niche and under-catered sector within the private security industry. That was high-end security services for UHNW individuals, private households, company owners, and executives alike.

The private security sector was awash with ‘security companies’ providing basic and lowstandard security guarding services, many being rogue and unlicensed companies run by criminals and protection rackets. Thankfully, those days are long behind us now due in part to the regulation of the Industry by the Home Office and the creation of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

These days, you will likely find more security companies trying to crack the lucrative ‘highend’ market with their service offerings, yet one name remains consistent at the pinnacle of their

trade and the chosen provider to many securityconscious individuals, families, and businesses. Having built an excellent reputation and enviable brand image through their high standards, exceptional attention to detail, and excellence. Westminster Security has established itself as the industry leader and the ‘go-to’ company for ‘luxury’ high-end security services.

Their services are based around their core service of close protection, what is that? We hear you say. Well, essentially, its bodyguards, but not as you might envisage them. When we think of bodyguards, we all naturally think of Hulk-like burly men or gun-toting Hollywood hearth-throbs. But the reality is very different.

John Moore, Managing Director of Westminster Security Ltd said “Close protection operatives (bodyguards) come in all shapes and sizes, non are armed in the UK, and female bodyguards are ever more popular with our clients”. John is a veteran of the British Army where he served in the Royal Military Police and specialised in close protection within the Close Protection Unit. So, we believe him.

Other services they provide in support of their close protection operations include highly trained security chauffeurs, residential security guards, surveillance, and VIP event security.

swimwear trends This summer’s hottest

These bikini and swimsuit styles will be everywhere, says Katie Wright.

Holiday season is here – and when it comes to packing for summer getaways, swimwear is of the utmost importance.

Whether you’re jetting across the globe or staycationing in the sunshine, a stylish swimsuit or two-piece is a must-have – and there are plenty of incredible pieces to choose from this season. From vintage-inspired prints to bold colours and figure-flattering shapes, these are the five key swimwear trends to know about now…

RETRO FLORALS

The groovy Sixties and Seventies fashion trend spills over into beachwear with flower-powered swimsuits and bikinis. Amp up the vintage vibes by teaming yours with cork wedges, a floppy sun hat and a crochet cover-up.

BARBIE PINK

After what feels like years of anticipation, Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie film lands in cinemas right in the middle of vacation season – on July 21 –and the all-pink-everything trend is still going strong. With a plethora of pink swimwear on the high street – everything from string bikinis to sporty suits, in every shade from pastels to fuchsia

– everyone can live their best Malibu Barbie life this summer.

BANDEAU

After several seasons of lingerie-inspired multistrap swimwear that leaves you, more often than not, with very weird tanlines (we’re blaming Love Island), minimalist styles are back. Strapless swimsuits and bikinis are sleek and chic. Mix and match block colour separates for a sporty look or make a style statement with a printed two-piece.

RING DETAILS

Bring vintage glam to your poolside look with a ring-detail bikini or bathing suit. Tap into the Seventies trend with paisley or marble print, or go au naturel in caramel and coffee tones.

ONE SHOULDER

Asymmetrical designs combined with cut-out detailing make for one of the sexiest swimwear trends of the year – and it’s a look celebs and fashion influencers are loving. Go for Grecian glam with a white one-shoulder bikini or jazz it up with a colourful print.

Top tips from Dermatologists for Summer Skin

As the sun starts to come out, it’s important to get into good habits when it comes to skin care. We spoke to Dr Catherine Borysiewicz, Consultant Dermatologist at King Edward VII’s Hospital, for top tips on staying safe in the sun.

1) Aim for at least SPF 30 sunscreen whatever your skin type

Everyone – regardless of skin type – should be opting for a broad-spectrum UV protection sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and at least 4-star UVA protection, which should be applied at least 30 minutes before going outside. It is recommended you re-apply sunscreen at least every two hours to ensure you are getting maximum protection.

2) Cover your whole body

When applying sun cream, people tend to apply to their face, arms, and chest, but can often forget to protect other parts of their body like their eyelids, scalps, and feet, but these can still burn like any other part of the body. Use sun cream all over your body, and cover up with light clothing, hats, and sunglasses to boost your protection when out and about

3) Don’t spend too long in direct sunlight

During the summer, the sun tends to be hottest and at its most dangerous between the hours of 11am and 3pm. Aim to seek cover in the shade at these points of the day, and drink plenty of fluids, to keep yourself hydrated and avoid the risk of getting heat stroke.

4)

Use cool water if you do get sunburnt

If you do happen to unfortunately get sunburnt, sponge sore skin with cool water, and then apply after sun to help reduce irritation. Painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, will also help ease the pain by helping to reduce inflammation caused by sunburn.

5) Be vigilant if you have moles

Those with lot of moles, need to be extra vigilant in the sun, as the UV rays from the sunlight can cause moles to become cancerous. Regularly check your moles and if their appearance has changed in terms of size or texture, book an appointment with your GP to assess them. King Edward VII’s Hospital offer a comprehensive Mole Mapping Health Check for just £595.

The Rise of Male Aesthetics

For years, the aesthetic industry has been very female-oriented with women being in the majority of those opting for non surgical aesthetics. However, recently practitioners and clinicians have noticed a steady increase in the number of men choosing to undergo treatments. Medical Director and Founder of estetica clinics for Surrey and Berkshire

Dr Sina Salimi explains his thoughts behind the upturn in this trend. “ Prior to today, Anti-wrinkle injections and fillers were always the go-to, youth enhancing solutions for image-conscious women, but now we are seeing the rapid increase in the percentage of men choosing these treatments and not only these treatments. Of course social media creating more awareness is a big reason, but it goes much further than this.

Whilst the stigma surrounding male vanity and their desire for tweaks has faded over the years, a new self awareness has been triggered in men, leading to them desiring the same benefits as women from cosmetic treatments.

Men are now just as concerned about the ageing process and their appearance as women. This has also come about from the rise in people working from home. With virtual meetings on the incline, people have moved on from just nonchalantly looking at themselves in the mirror

a few times a day as part of their routine and are now scrutinising their appearance whilst on digital platforms and paying close attention to fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin etc and these demographics include men too. The new work routines are making us all much more self conscious about our appearance, regardless of gender.

Men are also becoming more aware of the benefits of having a more youthful looking appearance and classically handsome features and it’s not just to feel more attractive, they know a competitive edge can be gained in the career market by presenting themselves in a well groomed, well maintained manner - think of it

AFTER
“Men are becoming more aware of the benefits of having a more youthful looking appearance and classically handsome features “

as taking the healthy eating lifestyle and regular gym routine one step further and as an essential component. By looking their best, they can effectively boost their confidence and their drive to succeed - men are now realising the power behind these treatments in assisting them in the workplace. And, it is no secret that those perceived to be more good looking are also paid more and have greater success.

As the effects of ageing become apparent, the desire to maintain a more youthful, and in fact more masculine look, makes sense in a mediadriven world where men are inundated with images of ideal male body shape, they want and need to live up to what they consider to be expected of them (in more cases than not). The increased emphasis is also exacerbated due to every moment being photographed for social media - people are seeing themselves photographed more than ever these days and the result is them being more acutely aware than ever of their appearance. Men are also seeking to maximise their masculinity as a way of excelling”.

What are the most popular procedures amongst male patients at estetica?

Apart from anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, which have come a long way since they took the industry by storm, are proving most popular. They are designed to produce a very natural look and provide bio-stimulating agents to help restore a youthful yet masculine appearance when injected in the correct volume, angle and position.

Can fillers improve my jawline?

In the hands of an experienced clinician, dermal fillers for men can give the jaw structure and augment the chin which will enhance the jawline for a more masculine look. An angular jawline with just the right amount of definition is what men are looking for and we have the tools to fulfill this wish at estetica

Any other treatments men are interested in?

Men are also starting to understand more about the benefits of Sulptra which is a perfect treatment for those who do lots of sport and fitness and suffer with lipoatrophy (loss of facial fat pads). Sculptra is an injection made of poly-L-lactic acid that stimulates collagen production for a subtle yet fuller and smoother appearance.

Anything else to help with maintenance?

Men are definitely beginning to understand the benefits of Profhilo, an aesthetic treatment which significantly improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, texture of skin, pores and plumpness. We currently have 40% off our Profhilo at estetica. Teeth whitening is also a great maintenance tool and we currently also have 40% off Enlighten teeth whitening home kit at estetica. The introduction and use of cosmeceuticals to your skincare routine is also a great way to overhaul your skin by really turning it around and also helps to maintain a great appearance.

Face the Sun

‘Use sunscreen every day’ is the ultimate skincare commandment. Dermatologists and beauty buffs alike agree that protecting your face from harmful UV rays – while simultaneously preventing wrinkles – should be a priority for everyone.

“Skin is the body’s first line of defence from everyday external aggressors which damage your skin such as UV rays,” says Prof Christian Aldridge, consultant dermatologist for LifeJacket Skin Protection.

“The damage from these can have cosmetic, physical and long-term health consequences. At best, it can age your skin and cause you discomfort but at worst, can give you a skin disease you really don’t want.”

That’s why daily protection of your skin is critical, particularly on those areas that are exposed to the sun regularly, such as your face. But in spite of all the warnings we receive, the message isn’t getting through to everyone.

A new survey from LifeJacket and Melanoma UK found that 10% of respondents rarely use SPF, while one in 20 says they never use it.

To make it more likely you’ll stick to a daily habit, finding a product you love can be a huge help – attempting to rub a thick, chalky cream into your skin is not the answer.

The good news is, facial sunblocks have come a long way, and there’s a whole new batch of lightweight but effective lotions, serums and gels that are a delight to use – and many of them are under the £20 mark.

“To adequately protect your face, I recommend 5ml (about a teaspoon) of SPF of at least 30 every day,” says Aldridge.

“Especially during the months of April to September, to ensure long-term skin protection. Application should be repeated if outside for long periods or undertaking exercising in the light.”

Add one of these innovative face creams to your routine for everyday protection. By Katie

This summer’s

sunglasses trends

Update your look with these fashionable frames, says Katie Wright.

The quintessential summer accessory, sunglasses are the perfect finishing touch for any outfit – whether you’re hanging out at home or jetting off on holiday.

When it comes to eyewear, trends move fast, so what frames are in fashion this season?

As we head towards hotter days, these are the five key sunglasses trends to know about…

OVERSIZED FRAMES

The coolest way to rock oversized sunnies this season is with sleek square frames, as seen at designer brands such as Celine and Prada. Opt for black or white opaque frames for an understatedluxe look or choose jewel tones to bring a Seventies glam feel.

SPORTY

Trendsetter Kim Kardashian now favours sporty sunglasses to top off her looks. Throw it back to the Nineties and Noughties with narrow, wraparound sunnies with retro denim or tailored outfits.

NARROW FRAMES

As seen recently on the likes of Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, narrow rectangular sunglasses are a big hit with celebs and models at the moment. These eyebrow-revealing frames are a subtle way to nod to the Nineties and a stylish option if you don’t suit oversized square styles.

WHITE FRAMES

In contrast to classic black, this season’s white sunglasses are all about making a strong style statement. From narrow Nineties-inspired styles to big oval frames, go bold with your monochrome sunnies.

TORTOISESHELL

Loving the spring/summer Seventies trend?

Then you need a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses to complete your look. Channel disco-glam with super-sized frames in natural tones, or add a pop of pink.

REDUCE THE SIGNS OF AGING

Dr Peter Forrester offers the option of combining Profhilo with INTRAcel, our proven and long-established radio-frequency micro-needling treatment. Together they are an unbeatable combination. This month we start by introducing INTRAcel.

established techniques of micro-needling and radio-frequency (RF) skin tightening. INTRAcel delivers short bursts of RF energy into the deeper layers of the skin.

Recovery from an INTRAcel treatment is usually quick; at the end of the treatment the skin will be red like a sunburn sensation for a few hours, this will diminish after 1-2 days. A toned and tightened effect will be immediately noticeable after a treatment but the full effect will develop over the subsequent weeks. There will be improvement after the first treatment, however a course of 3 at 4-6 week intervals is recommended. Following this improvements will continue for up to 6 months as healthy collagen develops.

Dr. Peter Forrester and Ms. Helen McEvoy offer:

• Wrinkle reducing and skin smoothing injections: A highly effective way to reduce forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet.

• HA Dermal Fillers: smooth deeper lines and furrows as well as returning lost volume to the face.

• Profhilo: Increasingly popular skin rejuvenating injections designed to improve skin hydration, stimulate the production if collagen and elastin thus improving skin tone and reducing theappearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

• IntraCel: Cleverly combining the proven techniques of microneedling and radio frequency (RF). INTRAcel may improve skin tone, tighten sagging skin, smooth fine lines and wrinkles and reduce acne scarring.

• Facial Peels: Returning a healthy glow to a dull looking complexion; revitalising sun damaged skin, improving fine lines, wrinkles and uneven tone are all part of the chemical peel’s appeal.

• Dermaroller: May improve the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, and acne scarring.

INTRAcel

At the Cosmetic Doctor’s Company, Dr Peter Forrester has been using INTRAcel skin rejuvenation for over 10 years.

During this time he has witnessed the introduction of many other non-surgical skintightening treatments. Usually well publicised, celebrity endorsed and very expensive.

Dr Forrester continues to be impressed with the results of INTRAcel and believes that it offers a better and more cost effective result than most of the new ‘trendy’ techniques.

INTRAcel cleverly combines the two

INTRAcel can:

• Improve and tone the texture of the skin

• Reduce wrinkles and fine lines

• Tighten the jowls and neck

• Improve acne scars

• Improve acne

• Hand rejuvenation: Mesotherapy (a non-invasive non-surgical technique) in combination with hyaluronic acid reverses the appearance of ageing.

• Hyperhydrosis: Significantly reduces excessive underarm sweating.

Advanced skincare: Scientifically proven strategies for skin; including anti-ageing and long term skin health.

LUXURY KITCHEN & BATHROOM GUIDE

– Everything you need to create the perfect kitchen or bathroom –

IMAGE: BENCHMARX KITCHENS

BENCHMARX INTRODUCES TWO NEW VERSATILE COLOURS TO ITS KITCHEN COLLECTION

Benchmarx Kitchens has launched two new trenddriven colours – sage green and storm grey –across a number of its most popular kitchen ranges.

Sage green joins Benchmarx’s existing forest and olive tones to create a spectrum of options for those lusting after a kitchen that makes visitors green with envy. New to the Sherwood and Marlow ranges, which each feature a unique take on shaker design, the new hue is the perfect base for a biophilic aesthetic – as well as being compatible with other finishes to create a harmonious two-tone design.

With demand for grey kitchens continuing to rise, Benchmarx has built on its existing family of 9 grey finishes by welcoming storm grey to its Marlow collection, providing homeowners with a hue that adds depth and interest.

Ruth Lavender, design expert at Benchmarx Kitchens, explains how these new colours can be used to create a kitchen with the wow-factor:

SAGE GREEN

“Sage green – as hinted in its name – draws its inspiration from nature, bringing a sense of calm into the home. Nourishing and balancing, the shade is incredibly versatile, possessing a transseasonal quality that is just so easy to live with.

“This timeless shade complements a whole host of colours, from delicate white to statementmaking black. It also pairs perfectly with neutrals and other greens and greys, making it a great option for those looking to introduce colour in a subtle way.

“Thanks to its versatility, it can be styled to embody everything from a traditional farmhouse kitchen, to a stunningly contemporary, luxe space. To achieve a countryside aesthetic, pair sage green with wooden furniture, flooring, and accessories, accented with shades of warm neutrals and offwhites. Pared-back walls with white shelving will brighten up a small space, and white tiling above worktops will create a rustic look. Sage green panelling can also create a beautiful focal point, whilst complementing cabinetry and adding texture and interest.

“For a more contemporary take, mix sage green with muted shades of grey, off-white, and black. It also pairs gorgeously with earthy tones, such as terracotta, which can be introduced as a statement wall. Handleless cabinets in sage green offer a seamless, modern design and ooze opulence with under-cabinet lighting.

“Sage green flourishes when introduced to a design that is flooded with natural light, whether that’s through large windows, skylights or bifold doors. Due to its organic feel, the colour complements greenery from the garden, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.”

STORM GREY

“Greys are here to stay! But, more of us are looking for something a little different to the light greys that have reigned over kitchen design over the past few years. Storm grey adds drama and creates a moody design that’s not only sophisticated but cool and calming.

“The perfect base colour for an on-trend kitchen, storm grey can be mixed and matched with light greys, blues and greens to create a beautifully curated design. Alternatively, you can let the colour do all the talking, and pair it with elegant black or white.

“Whether you’re creating a minimalist, modern look or a cosy traditional feel, storm grey works in any kitchen. For a luxe finish, incorporate gold handles and lighting fixtures with white marble surfaces and upstands to create contrast and separation.

Mirrored, open-shelving makes a statement in a storm grey kitchen scheme, and is perfect for making a room feel larger.

“For those craving a moody but modern feel, dark worksurfaces, a slate-effect splashback and under-cabinet lighting help set the mood and create drama. To tie the look together, finish with black and grey accessories and furniture.” benchmarxkitchens.co.uk

THE PERFECT KITCHEN BACKDROP

Leading manufacturer of innovative surfaces for kitchens and bathrooms, Bushboard, has overhauled its Alloy range of trend-driven aluminium kitchen splashbacks. The range, which has been divided into Alloy Décor and Alloy Colour, features 27 new striking designs that are available in four versatile sizes, bringing the total offer to 30 splashback choices.

Alloy Décor offers 14 luxurious, patterned finishes that have been developed to capture the beauty of natural materials, such as wood and stone, as well as a design that mimic the look of

tiles. The collection features 11 new designs, as well as three of Bushboard’s bestsellers. Alloy Décor comes with 3 beautiful textures: Shell – a soft matt finish, Timber – with realistic wood finishing and Pietra – a stone inspired finish, all of which enhance the designs beautifully.

Alloy Colour is a brand-new offering from Bushboard and showcases 16 gorgeous solid

colour options, all of which taking inspiration from the natural world. With a colour palette that ranges from light to dark, featuring both gloss and matt finishes, there’s an option to suit all tastes. The collection also features four brushed finishes that add texture to any design, whilst imitating popular metallic options.

Alloy has been developed with flexibility, functionality and visual impact in mind. A great alternative to tiles, Alloy allows the homeowner to make a real statement whilst experiencing all the benefits an aluminium splashback can offer.

Fire-safe and waterproof, there is no need to protect the splashback with an expensive glass cover. The product can be applied directly to the pre-existing surface, without the need for any preparation. It can also be placed on top of tiles, offering a quick, affordable option for those wanting to refresh their kitchen.

Each slimline splashback is installed using Complete adhesive, meaning there’s no grouting involved. Unlike tiles, no complex care routine is required to maintain Alloy splashbacks once in place. Simply wipe marks away with a damp cloth and mild detergent to keep the surface clean and looking its best for years to come.

Elliott Fairlie Product Leader at Bushboard, said: “Our new range of Alloy kitchen splashbacks was created with the latest trends in mind. We set out to create a range of splashbacks that can not only be used to create a luxury, standout feature, but also act as the perfect backdrop to any kitchen design.

“The new range has something to suit everyone, from gorgeous marbles, nature-inspired solid colours, to daring dark woods and standout tile effect finishes. Our goal was to create a range that offered design flexibility to all, without the need to compromise.

“The new designs showcase our commitment to providing homeowners with products that offer an alternative to classic kitchen materials through innovative concepts and designs.

“By opting for an Alloy aluminium composite panel, you can choose for the material to be carried across any wall space, including behind hobs and sinks, to continue the scheme across the room. Not only do they look bold and beautiful, but panel splashbacks are also simple to install, easy to maintain, and there is no grout to clean!”

Perfect for those looking for a cost-effective solution to inject personality into their kitchen in

a stylish but innovative way, the range works for both newly renovated spaces as well as pre-existing kitchens.

As well as offering 30, on-trend designs, there are four sizes to choose from, meaning it is easy to mix and match for a completely bespoke solution – regardless of the shape or size of the area. Decors range from marble, stone, wood and industrial concrete, as well as solid colours in gloss and matt finishes, and brushed metal options.

Alloy kitchen splashbacks are straightforward to install by a kitchen fitter, or homeowners who are confident making DIY updates. Thanks to its 4mm aluminium composition, products in this range can be easily cut, drilled and shaped to fit required measurements using standard tools.

Family-run, independent online tiles specialist Hyperion Tiles are experts when it comes to designing bathrooms with the right tiles. So, follow our expert advice for ways in which to make a small bathroom look more spacious with tiles:

1/ Choose light-coloured tiles to make your bathroom feel brighter and more open

2/ Use large format tiles to give the illusion of more space by reducing the grout lines

3/ Use the same tiles on the floors and walls to create a more cohesive look, which will make the space feel larger

4/ Consider a glossy finish, which will reflect the

light and make the space feel larger and lighter

5/ Pick diagonal patterns because these will create the illusion of more depth in your bathroom

PERFECTLY BRITISH NAUTICAL HOMEWARE FROM DESIGNER VICTORIA EGGS

Ideal for beachy picnics, alfresco summer dining, and bringing a slice of seaside charm into homes up and down the country, Victoria Eggs’ nautical collection is inspired by time spent along Britain’s coastlines.

The collection highlights a nostalgic and whimsical view of the seaside serving as a reminder of everything you love about holidays in the UK. The motif includes deck chairs, sticks of rock, beach huts, ice creams and even a resident sea gull! What could be more British?

As with all of Victoria’s other collections, each item is hand-crafted in the UK. The Fine Bone China ceramics are made from the finest Cornish clay, and the textiles are printed onto unbleached cotton using plant dyes to ensure that they’re

planet-friendly.

The collection includes a mug, tea towel, coasters, magnets, oven glove, pot grab, apron, egg cup, ½ pint jug, cosmetic bag, and two canvas bags.

Hand-drawn homeware by award-winning British designer Victoria Eggs, made in the UK.

Victoria Eggs homeware is born from Great-British moments; the nostalgic whiff of salt and vinegar-y chips at the seaside, quirky colloquialisms, our Royal family, London. We’re as British as the cuppa. In fact we’ve a day dedicated to celebrating our favourite brew. #teatuesday

All our products are hand-illustrated by Victoria, and lovingly made in the UK. Our mugs (tea tastes better in a Victoria Eggs Mug BTW), are hand-crafted and decorated in Staffordshire, using traditionally mined Cornish Clay. And our textiles come from Lincolnshire, printed with waterbased ink (which has virtually no impact on the environment).

“All my designs are snapshots of special moments in time we wish to cherish forever and gift to those we love most.”

From heart to home.

Citrus Summer...

How to bring a taste of Mediterranean style to your garden

When the weather is warm and dry, there’s nothing better than spending time in the garden, making the most of the space that’s on your doorstep. Bring the experience of dining out to your very own patio, with some simple styling touches to elevate eating al fresco.

Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Dee Fontenot shares ideas and inspiration for outdoor summer dining...

Al fresco summer tablescape

The art of laying the table is definitely in the detail. Layering smaller plates on top of dinner plates and giving each guest cutlery for each course will add a sense of occasion. An essential piece of decor for any tablescape, a linen or cotton runner will bring a focus to the centre of the table whilst also protecting outdoor furniture from spillages and stains.

Think about individual place settings and the table centrepiece as a whole, and how they can

work together to create the overall look. Fold neutral linen napkins and add to each plate, placing a sprig of greenery and fresh lemon half for an effortless yet elegant - and aromatic - place setting. Instantly adding the Instagrammable factor, run off cuts of garden greenery or freshly foraged foliage down the centre of the table. Weave in between rustic serving boards and drape gently down the edge of the ends of the dining table for a super simple homemade runner.

Blend indoors and out

Gone are the days of bland, outdated garden furniture. With a huge variety of designs to choose from, with wood, metal, rattan and more, most sets would look just as good inside as they do out, with designs inspired by interior furniture. The appeal of dining outside on trips abroad is often how relaxed and effortless it feels. Bench seating can save space and often allows you to squeeze in extra guests without the need for more chairs. A bench set up is a perfect choice to suit a number of different styles and garden sizes.

Style and comfort

Delicious food and drink is certainly one important factor for outdoor dining, but comfort is just as key. For day time dining in gardens that get plenty of sun, a parasol will provide some welcome shade and protection - particularly helpful in the event of unexpected rain showers, given how unpredictable British summers can be! Outdoor cushions and throws or soft furnishings borrowed from indoors will cosy up hard seating for garden get-togethers, providing an extra layer for guests to use as the evening cools. Ca’ Pietra Tiles for Summer

Head of Creative at Ca’ Pietra Grazzie Wilson showcases some of her favourite summer tiles as part of their new Moments of Mine Summer campaign. These are tiles that form the backdrop to summer’s best bits.

Apéritif Please

Aperol, come at me. Citrus-y spritz, you’re mine. Campari and soda, yes and yes. Mix up a trending tipple and get sipping against a backdrop of mixand-match garden tiles. There’s no better way to set the sundowner scene.

Golden Hour

THE most golden-delicious hour of the day where literally everything and everyone looks at their most radiant. Tiles included. Terracotta, you’ve never looked better than you do pre-sunrise and those last few seconds before sunset. Get snapping. Get hash tagging.

Staycation

Cobalt blue x surf white. Pomelo yellow x basketweave beige. Consider your jet set palette covered all without boarding the plane. This summer, let your tiles take you there.

Ice Cream Sundays

Get your raspberry ripple on or make guests green-eyed with pistachio and mint-choc-chip on your paving’s palette. With sorbet shades and pastel soft serve shades trending across patterned outdoor tiles, make every al fresco moment like a trip to the ice cream parlour.

Sunday Brunching

Step away from the kitchen island, because when the sun’s out, Sunday brunch heads straight outside. And why keep avocado and egg-white omelette on the breakfast menu alone when you can tile up your outdoor kitchen with tiles coloured in those very tones?

You Have Installed a Beautiful New Pool - What Next?

Service Level Agreement that sets out our mutual responsibilities. This will include details of the work to be undertaken on the pool during each visit, frequency and length of visits, cost and our security and privacy policy.

Pool safety

London Swimming Pool Company has been designing, building, refurbishing and servicing luxury swimming pools and spas for over 30 years, so we know what comes next!

No two pools are the same. They vary in building materials, size, shape, location, plant room equipment, water treatment system, frequency of use and bather load, so every pool requires specific care and attention. That means a tailored servicing plan for every pool to ensure they remain in excellent condition all year round.

Dedicated engineers

The first step to properly caring for your pool is a site visit to assess its needs. One of our qualified, experienced pool engineers will visit and inspect your pool and the plant room equipment thoroughly, assessing its individual requirements and will then advise you on what is required. This will include a proposal for regular servicing as well as easy-to-follow steps on testing the pool water to ensure it remains healthy in between visits from your dedicated servicing engineer.

Specialist servicing

Pool servicing is a specialist job carried out by skilled engineers who not only do the run-of-the-mill tasks but take steps to prevent problems from occurring with the pool water, plant and structure of the pool. Regular servicing ensures that your pool will always be ready for use. Working with our team of specialists will ensure that any minor issues are dealt with immediately and that risk signals are identified early, avoiding costly expenditures in the future. While equipment may look clean and shiny to the untrained eye, something may not be working optimally. Professional help will ensure everything is always functioning well and safely.

First class service

If you decide to work with London Swimming Pool Company, you will receive a bespoke

It is essential to know the basic principles of pool safety and hygiene. As the pool owner, you should be aware of areas such as chemical levels, water temperature, use of a pool cover and general cleaning - mistakes can be detrimental to bathers. You can learn more about your pool’s specific requirements from your dedicated service engineer.

Revitalising older pools

Older pools need the same level of servicing care and attention as new pools and may even benefit from plant upgrading. If you have a much older pool that is frayed around the edges, our Refurbishment Team can transform it into a modern pool, finished in the latest materials, accessories and energy-efficient plant room equipment.

Insider tips for wow-factor interiors without the headache

We caught up with award-winning interior designer Anna Burles, to get the lowdown on the secret to show-stopping and budget savvy renovations. Anna is Creative Director of Run For The Hills and BIID Registered Interior Designer, who has designed homes for singer Ellie Goulding, A-list actors and scores of stylish homeowners across the UK and overseas.

“Our job as interior designers is to help clients create their dream home without running away with the budget. Delivering super stylish, inspirational interiors, which are brought to life in respectful, clever ways. Spending on the things that make all the difference, being super smart on the things which won’t.”

Anna says the key is to scope from the outset, hiring both an interior designer and QS simply for a number of days consultancy initially, to conduct a speedy feasibility study, working together to sketch out the wish list and concept, then diving straight into budgeting. The interior designer estimating fixtures and furnishings and QS the build-side. Doing this early allows the right decisions to be made before moving into detailed design. Rather than waiting, relying on contractor quotes and avoiding nasty budget surprises down the line: “We’re an ultra-creative design studio, but it’s essential we’re a trusted partner”.

Anna adds that their most successful projects are where they’re hired early, alongside planning specialists, PM or architect, allowing them to feed into structural plans. Checking big ticket architectural interventions are being done in a way which protects enough budget for the interior. Are door openings in the right places for beautiful furniture layouts? Will window heights and locations enhance or hinder the design? Could a laundry room be moved closer to the bedrooms? Or an adjoining room to a bedroom be fashioned into a walk-in wardrobe / guest suite rather than the 4th or 5th en-suite in the property?

All decisions best made early, which unlock budget to create a truly amazing interior. To chat to Anna and see how Run For The Hills might help with your interiors project:, email annaburles@runforthehills.com Tel: 44 (0)208 617 0203 runforthehills.com/residential

Charlotte Candillier Interiors

Charlotte Candillier Interiors have just completed the interior design of a magnificent home in South West London measuring a whopping 10,000 square foot with a unbelievable subterranean lower level with games room, cinema, gym and spa area. The main residence is connected via an underground walkway, bathed in natural light, to an above ground swimming pool complex which opens out onto the garden.

Head designer and owner Charlotte “this is the third project we have completed for the same client, so the design process was simpler in that we had a good grasp on their family dynamic and their individual style and taste. The client loves contemporary artwork and in particular street art, so this was the starting point for the design of the entertainment and family levels of the home. We

“This is the third project we have completed for the same client, so the design process was simpler in that we had a good grasp on their family dynamic and their individual style and taste. The client loves contemporary artwork and in particular street art, so this was the starting point for the design of the entertainment and family levels of the home”

used Clarendon fine art to source some exquisite pieces from Dom Pattison, Mr Brainwash and others.

Taking inspiration from these and the colours, we came up with a really cool aesthetic for the main entertainment space which followed through to the spa area. Choosing some investment pieces as well as other more, let’s shall we say, affordable pieces we really managed to create a timeless interior which our client is thrilled with”.

As for the rest of the residence “we decided on a more timeless design for the adult spaces and bedrooms using unique wallpapers, classic furniture pieces and detailed fabrics. The client really wanted the Ligne Roset pumpkin chair for the bedroom but with covid, the wait time was 2 years. We managed to find a vintage Ligne Roset chair on ebay, and had it recovered in a gorgeous Italian wool boucle. We managed to deliver the same chair in a week for a fraction of the price! For the living space, we sourced two vintage 1970’s Milo Baughman cantilevered Chairs, which were in mint condition, and had them recovered. The result was just perfect for the space and it definitely feels good to upcycle some classic pieces”

Charlotte Candillier Interiors have been designing and developing homes in the UK as well as France, Mauritius and South Africa for the past 15 years.

HOW DO YOU BRING THE OUTDOORS IN?

With summer approaching, being outside is more on our minds. But having that outdoor feeling doesn’t just have to be for the warmer months, with careful planning you can create a seamless transition from outdoors to in.

To give you some inspiration, here are Mustard House Design’s top 5 ways to achieve this.

Maximise natural light and views

If you are blessed with panoramic vistas, or views of your garden, from your home, make full use of this with large windows and glass doors. Ensure that your window treatments allows as much light in as possible and also maximises your view. Skylights will also help with an abundance of daylight while providing a connection to the outdoor environment.

Invest in indoor plants

Plants are an excellent way to infuse greenery and freshness into interior spaces. There are plenty of plants that thrive indoors, some even prefer low light levels so are ideally suited for that corner at the back of the room.

Incorporate natural materials

Natural materials emphasise our innate connection

with nature. Using materials like natural wood, bamboo, or stone, you’ll create a soothing and organic atmosphere.

Use nature-inspired colours

When decorating consider using colours naturally found in nature, such as shades of green, earthy browns, or calming blues to help evoke a sense of the outdoors. These colours can be applied to walls, furniture, accessories, or even artwork to create a harmonious environment.

Green Walls and Vertical Gardens

Take over a wall and install a vertical garden to bring a lush, living element to your interior space. They can transform a wall into a vibrant focal point, infusing the room with a sense of nature and providing a breath of fresh air. By incorporating some of these ideas you’ll be doing more than just bringing the outdoors in, you’ll be creating a welcoming indoor environment that blurs the boundaries between the inside and outside, helping to foster a connection with nature. If you would like to understand more, get in touch and we will be happy to discuss ideas and options with you. info@mustardhousedesign.co.uk
