The show traces how menswear has been fashioned and refashioned over the centuries, and how designers, tailors and artists – and their clients and sitters – have constructed and performed masculinity, and unpicked it at the seams. Fashioning Masculinities presents around 100 looks and 100 artworks, displayed thematically across three galleries - Undressed, Overdressed, andContemporaryRedressed. looks by legendary designers and rising stars are displayed alongside historical treasures from the V&A’s collections and landmark loans: classical sculptures, Renaissance paintings, iconic photographs, and powerful film and performance.Outfitsworn by familiar faces are interspersed throughout, from Harry Styles, Billy Porter and Sam Smith to David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich.

onty Python legend and intrepid globetrotter Michael Palin brings tales of two of the most extraordinary journeys he’s ever made to the stage this autumn in a new solo tour, ‘From North Korea Into Iraq’. Kicking off in Colchester on 1 October and ending in Edinburgh on 21 October, tickets go on sale at 10am on 22 July from ticketmaster.co.uk ‘From North Korea Into Iraq’ will see Michael deliver first-hand accounts of journeys through two countries on the dark side of history. Both named by President George Bush as being part of the Axis of Evil. Using photos and film shot at the time, he will tell the story of his challenging adventures in the tightly controlled time bomb that is the People’s Republic of North Korea, and the bruised land of Iraq, once the home of civilisation, torn apart over the last thirty years by brutal war and bloodshed.
This tour follows his new Channel 5 series, Michael Palin: Into Iraq, produced by ITN Productions which launches in the autumn. It will also be accompanied by Michael’s new book, ‘Into Iraq’, published by Hutchinson Heinemann on 15 September. Tickets: ticketmaster.co.uk
These two countries are often portrayed as international pariahs, and two of the last places you’d want to visit, but for Michael, the best part of travelling is looking behind the headlines and getting to know what life is really like for the people who live there. Michael Palin said: “We shouldn’t forget that we share a common humanity with the people of North Korea and Iraq and in both these tough and difficult countries we found, as you will see, humour and hope, ambition, expectation, warmth, hospitality and extraordinary resilience. These journeys were for me a total eye-opener. ‘From North Korea Into Iraq’ may take you out of your comfort zone but I hope, like me, that once we’ve travelled together, your feelings about these two countries, and the wider world we share, will never be quite the same again.”

The Women and Equalities Committee has recently published a new report highlighting the lack of protection and risks faced by cohabiting couples and have asked parliament to table a bill on this matter in 2023/2024 and the law commission may well need to conduct a further review.Ifthe recommendations come into place when you are in a cohabiting relationship, then the protection is likely to be automatic unless you opt-out. Whilst many people, when they purchase a property, enter into a Declaration of Trust to define their financial contributions to the property, a Cohabitation/Living Together Agreement can also set out what is to happen with regard to such other issues as household bills, vehicle and holiday costs, etc. and, indeed, what happens on the death of one party can be incorporated into the Inagreement.termsof the recommendations to the opt-out scheme, these include the following: -

THE DETAILS If you are considering cohabitation or your relationship has broken down, we are able to advise you on the options open to you.
Some family lawyers have been canvassing for many years and recommendations have been made by the Law Commission for change.
• To provide remedies where one party has made qualifying contributions to the relationship which gave rise to an economic disadvantage unless they have “opted-out”.
• To provide protection under the Inheritance Act where a couple have a child and one partner dies, without the requirement of a cohabitation of two years.
• To set out eligibility requirements for remedies on separation with a two-year minimum or the presence of a child.
• To create a clear definition of cohabitation; where a couple are living as a couple in a joint household, and they are not married or civil partners.
Time and time again, we see clients who are cohabiting and, upon the breakdown of their relationship, think they are going to be afforded the same rights and financial provisions as if they were married, but the reality is far different.

SCHOOLSINDEPENDENTGUIDE – The finest independent schools in the UK –IMAGE: THE CAMBRIDGES MOVE TO WINDSOR: HOW TO HELP CHILDREN SETTLE AT A NEW SCHOOL
Developing global citizens to stand up for what is right
irls have boarded at Cranleigh School in Sixth Form since the 1980s and we’ve been fully co-ed for 23 years. We’re proud of our long heritage, but we also pride ourselves on being a school that is not afraid to move forward and grow. We have four boys and four girls boarding houses, paired in twos so that all elements of school life can be lived co-educationally, and we recently shifted our tutoring system to run vertically, so that each year group has the chance to develop meaningful relationships with children both older and younger than themselves. On top of the excellent academics and co-curricular offering, we believe that what’s special about boarding schools is the chance for young people to develop, to discover their talents and passions and to come through their years of education as the very best people they can be, ready to contribute to the world and lead respectful lives of service. One of our key priorities has been to address global issues, at the same time as providing an environment that is as pastorally nurturing as it can possibly be. Rather than shying away from the difficult conversations arising from social activism around anti-racism and sexual violence we have included all of our community on the journey we are taking - pupils, parents and alumni as well as staff. Like many others, we have appointed an EDI lead and pledged money to improve our social diversity. We have additionally appointed a change-maker, held a conference on diversity, set targets for diversity and for curriculum change.
56 SEPTEMBER 2022 EDUCATION G
Our Alliance pupil-led group (for diversity in all its manifestations) has worked hard to think about who we are and who we want to be and has developed a pledge, which promotes tolerance within an active non-bystander culture. In addition we have increased our pastoral team, adding a dedicated Head of Safeguarding to our team of DSLs, Deputy Head Pastoral, counsellors, matrons and boarding house staff. Our environment allows boys and girls to understand one another’s perspectives, which has led to a collaborative attempt to address the issue of consent raised by Everyone’s Invited. We had already been working with an external collaborator and our pupil-led Cranleigh Being group (for pupil wellbeing, which has an anti-sexual violence subcommittee) has presented talks on consent to all year groups. Our Sixth Formers spoke of their experiences directly to a Staff Meeting. We ran a full programme of in-person and webinar PSHE talks with male and female leads talking together and that PSHE was also delivered to parents and accessible by alumni. The peer-led conversations have prioritised healthier relationships which in turn has increased boys talking about their mental health. Peer education is fundamental to changing attitudes and has improved our student leadership. We listen to and work with our pupils and include them in our plans and our staff could not be more proud of what we’re achieving.

Encourage curiosity from a young age Lord says you don’t need to purchase expensive STEM tools or resources to spark curiosity in your child’s mind. “If families are looking to support their daughters, I’d encourage them to be more curious about their world when out and about,” she says. “Take time to notice the world around you, wonder at what you see and discuss what else you’d like to discover.”

Advocate for STEM opportunities at school Schools can play a major role in a student’s development. “I remember when I was doing my GCSEs, the teacher actually showed us a video about supermassive black holes and I remember being so fascinated by that – and that’s what I ended up doing my PHD in,” says Jones. She now gives educational talks in schools, highlighting the contributions made by female scientists.
Danielle Desouza discovers how to inspire girls within the realms of science, technology, engineering and maths. When you think of women in science, some key names might come to mind, such as Marie Curie, Mae Jemison or Sarah Gilbert. But this is just scratching the surface: there are countless other women working to find cures for illnesses, teaching future generations about gravity or making coding seem as easy as Womenbreathing.across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) share their advice on how parents can positively encourage daughters into these fields…
HOW TO ENCOURAGE YOUR DAUGHTERS INTO STEM
Boost your daughter’s confidence Tell your daughters to “go for it”, says Dr Ems Lord, director of NRICH (nrich.maths.org), the University of Cambridge’s maths outreach programme. “You’ll never be bored if you love a challenge, and the thrill you get from solving a problem never wains.” Stress the importance of not giving up, advises Rachel Youngman, deputy chief executive at the Institute of Physics (iop. org). It can be intimidating entering a male-dominated field, but it is important for young people to realise “you are just as worthy of a place on a STEM course as a male student, and just as able to achieve success”, she says.
experience at a university,” she says, recommending “emailing people and just seeing if you can shadow someone, even if it’s only for a few days, just so you can get a feel of what the job is like”.
Vanessa Oakes is doing her PhD in biomedicine, and is a clinical instructor in anatomic pathology at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (vetmed.vt.edu). Her advice is: “Take her to the zoo, take her to museums, spend time outdoors looking at grass and leaves and twigs, let her ask what they’re made of and how they grow. Every STEM field is about asking questions first, and finding answers only second.”
Pioneer (joely-to.wixsite.com/pioneer) is a support network for girls wanting to pursue maths, set up by Joely To, who’s a student herself. It provides work experience with top companies, and gives girls the opportunity to connect with female mentors in the industry. You could also reach out to Women In Tech (women-in-tech.org) – an organisation founded by Ayumi Moore Aoki to empower women to enter STEM, or The Blackett Lab Family Group (theblackettlabfamily.com) – a collective of black physicists.Jonessays parents should encourage their daughters to get involved in the area they’re interested in. “I managed to get a week of work
It’s also worth challenging your own stereotypes, with Youngman saying: “Leave your preconceptions at the door, and acknowledge that your idea of what it means to study physics may not be an accurate one.”

earning a new language has traditionally been associated with study or work. However, there is a big shift in the attitude to learning new languages and students of all ages now have a desire to connect with different cultures whether for natural curiosity or family reasons. With these new needs, comes an expectation to make language learning much more fun and engaging especially for students that are starting out. At Pepe and Tete, we have found that a typical Spanish learning journey for a beginner will involve three stages. First the ‘picking up stage’ i.e., the ability to pick up the new concepts and pronunciations. Next comes the ‘retaining stage’ i.e., when a student starts to memorise the concepts more frequently than not. Finally, the ‘expressive stage’ i.e., when the student develops the confidence to express themselves in the new language. Normally, this comes from being understood despite articulating phrases at a low level of accuracy. The magic word is practice. That is why our learning approach is founded on conversation as the best way to learn a language. Whether it’s practicing with native speakers or role-plays, our tutors place strong emphasis on social skills as a way of mastering a language across all ages and levels. Specifically, for children, we have developed a learning model that combines interactive learning and real-life interactions. We use Pepito, a fun and engaging character that brings to life various aspects of Spanish culture such as family, food and
hobbies. When it comes to students, whether GCSE, /IB or A level, we have developed engaging programmes that combine tutoring, conversation with native speaking language buddies and full immersion programmes to Spain where students can connect with the culture while progressing with their study. For adults, we have developed a dedicated 1-year programme called Spanish Año. The programme is based on an English family looking to relocate to Spain and thus puts strong emphasis on conversation and practice as a way of mastering the language. Learning a language does not stop at just being able to speak and listen but also includes cultural immersion, meeting new people and of course sampling the food. So, no matter your learning needs, we would be delighted to take you on a learning journey full of fun, new friendships and adventure. If you would like to find out more about our programmes, please get in touch on team@pepeandtete.com “Learning a language does not stop at just being able to speak and listen but also includes cultural immersion, meeting new people and of course sampling the food”

he Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are relocating from London to leafy Windsor – a decision that has been “led by the kids”. George, nine, and Charlotte, aged seven, have left their London prep school, Thomas’s Battersea,
The move from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage – a Grade II-listed four-bedroom house in Windsor’s private Home Park – is both nearer to William’s grandmother the Queen, who spends most of her time at Windsor Castle, and to Kate’s parents’ home in Bucklebury, Berkshire. Kensington Palace confirmed the move and a royal source said: “This is very much a decision that two parents have made to give their children “This is very much a decision that two parents have made to give their children the ‘most normal’ start possible”

Even the toughest kids might need their mum and dad more than ever during this transition period when everything is changing. “This is a time for nurturing the child, so some extra special time, a few treats and lots of cuddles and kind words are called for.”

Home Try to make sure everything at home is consistent, stable and comforting. “The familiar framework and routines of home provide comfort and reassurance when children are being tested by a new school environment,” she says.
“Changing schools is a major challenge for all children, whatever their age, as school takes up such a large and significant part of their lives and contributes so much to their development,” stresses educational psychologist Dr Kairen Cullen (drkairencullen.com).Theyoungroyaltrio
Remember that change can be painful and destabilising as well as exciting and enhancing. “We know as adults that if we’re undergoing major change in one area of our lives, we need to keep continuity in other parts as much as possible so we enjoy the change and don’t become too unsettled,” says Cullen, who stresses that this need for continuity applies even more to children, especially the very young.
Allowances
Parents may need to cut children some slack when they’re finding their feet at a new school. “Make as many allowances as you can and modify your expectations of the usual behavioural standards as much as possible while your child settles in to their new school,” advises Cullen. Nurture

“KP [Kensington Palace] can be a bit of a fishbowl. They wanted to be able to give George, Charlotte and Louis a bit more freedom than they have living in central London. It’s very much a decision that’s been led by the kids.” But while the decision takes the Cambridges nearer to family and gives the children 52 acres of Berkshire countryside to run around in at Lambrook School, there is still some potential turmoil associated with upping sticks and leaving schoolfriends behind to start afresh in a new area.
won’t be alone in having to face challenges including joining existing social groups, breaking into established school sports teams, and becoming familiar with new teachers and teaching styles. Plenty of other kids face the same issues when they too move to a different area, for whatever reason. Here’s what Cullen advises parents to bear in mind when they try to help their children through the change from one school to another…
Growth Remember that children’s growth and development comes largely from the challenges they face, which are carefully eased by the adults in their lives, be they parents, carers, relatives or educational professionals. “The new school experience offers a lot of opportunities for everyone involved to work together in helping the child cope with the challenges,” Cullen explains. Expertise She stresses that although many professionals have great expertise in supporting children as they adapt to change and challenges, there are no better experts than their own parents. “Trust your hard-earned knowledge and the insights you’ve acquired over time in relation to your own child, but also ask for help as and when you consider it’s needed.”

opportunities to reach their potential and flourish in this rapidly evolving world.
Anew Head of Drama has brought a touch of West End glamour to St John’s Beaumont Preparatory School for boys in Old Windsor. Scott Jenkins is a trained actor who is bringing with him a wealth of experience from appearing in professional stage productions, TV series and blockbuster movies such as East Enders, The Bill and Harry Potter. He is also a fully fledged dance instructor and LAMDA coach, and has joined the school from his previous appointment at Wellington College. His first production at the school was the muchloved Lion King Jr musical which took centre stage earlier this year. After much rehearsing, and roles for every single boy in the Middle School, the performance took place in front of a full house. The audience was dazzled by an incredible stage setting and colourful costumes, created by the school’s Art Department and the boys themselves. Some of the scores were performed by the school’s own talented musicians. After the great success of the show, Mr Jenkins is excited to announce two brand-new productions for the coming school year. The Middle School boys will go on an adventure to Neverland for their Peter Pan Jr performance and the Upper School boys are looking forward to some fun in the swamp with Shrek Jr. St John’s Beaumont is an academically and pastorally successful day and boarding school based on a 70-acre country estate near Englefield Green/Old Windsor. Parkside Nursey and Reception classes are now available all year round and offer the same outstanding care and learning environment to build roots for children to grow with courage, confidence and character. parkside-school.co.uk We support the children to understand their world by creating opportunities to learn through play and structured tasks both inside and outside of the classroom”
The two elements above should be underpinned by a focus on nurturing the children and is paramount to their development and ability to learn. A proactive pastoral care provision should sit at the heart of any learning environment in order to guide children successfully through their early years and to build a firm foundation for children to progress into senior school.
un is the foundation of a well-rounded education. After all, we know that happy children want to go to school and tend to thrive. Play is the common denominator throughout EYFS and the primary form of learning in a nursery school setting. Children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills through play. It is a natural activity through which they learn about the world both indoors as well as outdoors. Children learn to take risks, explore new ideas, problem solve and develop their imaginations both independently and as part of a group. Adults play a crucial part in facilitating this type of learning by providing time, space and resource to have fun and learn through play. At Parkside School, Cobham, Surrey, FUN is also used as an acronym for Familiarity, Understanding and Nurture.
The importance of children having a familiar environment with adults they know and trust is paramount in building their confidence and, therefore, their ability to learn. The comfort of a daily routine and set expectations within certain boundaries work to create security and contentment in their early years. When children are relaxed and know what to expect, their attentions
are focused fully on learning and not on worrying about when their adult is coming to collect them. When they are busy with play amongst adults they trust and peers they enjoy being with, they will absorb the world around them and relish all that is involved in this. We support the children to understand their world by creating opportunities to learn through play and structured tasks both inside and outside of the classroom. Real life experiences such as cooking, singing, painting and exploring the outdoors really contribute to skill development. The emphasis should always be on encouraging children to take calculated risks, to take the lead independently as well as supporting and guiding them to persevere with tasks in order to ‘make it happen’.
68 SEPTEMBER 2022 EDUCATION F
The overall aim in the early years is that children have fun in a structured environment where they can grow in confidence, supported by individuals who genuinely care about their wellbeing.

Why non-invasive treatments are becoming more popular than injectables!
Why Injectables can speed up the Ageing Process. Most clients, who have “over done” their skin by over using skin peels, harsh products, dermaabrasion, Botox and other fillers, are now looking to repair & improve skin health with other alternatives.
With 27+ years in the Aesthetic Industry, I have used my wealth of knowledge, and clinical experience, to create Signature Skin Treatments,
Overuse of fillers, can stretch the skin over time and migrate causing facial distortion (pillow face), leading to an undesirable look.
Skin can be transformed using non-injectable skin aesthetics, cosmeceutical skin care and skin food supplements. All three ways will transform the skin positively, and the client will see for themselves the improvements that all three together elicit. This is why I am so confident –there is nothing more persuasive than seeing positive results, especially when you know they are achieved in the right way.
Corrective Treatments & Alternatives for Botox & Fillers
Lisa Harris, of Lisa Harris Skin Science, explains combining exclusive advanced technology & natural raw materials that organically rebuild the integrity of the skin, which addresses all skin concerns. Improving muscle tone, skin vitality and boosting Collagen (skin tightening), that results in a more natural, desirable look. We have global recognition for delivering facial rejuvenation & body treatments with long-lasting benefits.
Your skin is like a window into the health of your inner world, and because so many things in our lifestyles can wipe out the good bacteria we’re supposed to have, our skin often reflects imbalances in the system. Looking after your gut with; Prebiotics & Probiotics, help to repair your gut lining and feeds your microbiome (good bacteria). This will help to heal inflammation within your body (linked to Rosacea, Acne & Eczema), as well as keeping your skin looking younger & healthier. My ethos is to improve the overall skin health and speak the truth about skin ageing and how to slow this process down by increasing the volume within the skin and not by thinning out the skin. Lisa Harris Skin Science, 97 Queens Road, Weybridge KT13
Overuse of Botox can lead to muscle atrophy, causing the muscle to become lifeless, making it hard to stimulate & correct the muscle definition during skin treatments. Also thinning of the skin where you can visibly see discolouration with waves of reds & purples (where the skin transparently shows the muscle).
My Expert Advice Injectables are relatively safe but overuse is not a good thing. It’s a “No” for me & I’m glad that there is more awareness and better ways to improve your skins youthfulness.

Taking the pop world by storm in the mid-1990s –alongside Spice Girls bandmates Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham – Horner was given the nickname ‘Ginger Spice’ in honour of her fiery red hair.
The 20-something pop star was all about attention-grabbing outfits, often sporting the brightest, loudest ensembles of the group. eptember is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and it’s never been more important to demystify how the disease is diagnosed.
Consultant Urologist at King Edward VII’s Hospital, Professor Caroline Moore, explains some
Diagnosing prostate cancer: what to expect at your GP
It can be confusing for men to know whether they should be checked for prostate cancer and having any symptoms that might be related to prostate cancer can be worrying. If you’re concerned about prostate cancer, there are tests that can be carried out by your medical specialist to check for any signs of the disease.
“When you visit your GP, it’s helpful to bring a description of the symptoms you’re experiencing, when you experience, how often and how long you’ve had them”
A PSA blood test is a common test for prostate cancer. Your blood will be tested for the presence of a protein that’s produced by the prostate and the results will take a few days. The prostate produces this protein whether it’s healthy or has become cancerous, so most men will have a certain amount of this protein in their blood. However, if a PSA blood test result is very high, referred to as a raised PSA level, it may be an indicator that you have prostate cancer.
Rectal Examination
Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may think it’s necessary to perform a digital rectal examination (DRE). This will involve your doctor feeling inside your rectum using a gloved finger, to feel for any abnormalities. Prostate abnormalities include an enlarged prostate or a prostate that feels hard or lumpy. You will be lying on your left side with your knees pulled up to your chest. You will be asked to remove your lower clothing and underwear, but your bottom half will be covered with a paperYoutowel.shouldn’t feel any pain, but you may feel some slight discomfort or embarrassment. Your doctor will use some lubricating gel to make the procedure less uncomfortable. They may apply some pressure to your prostate gland which shouldn’t feel uncomfortable but may give you an urge to pass urine.
“Your blood will be tested for the presence of a protein that’s produced by the prostate and the results will take a few days”
Having a raised PSA level doesn’t necessarily mean that you have prostate cancer though, and could be a sign of an infection, prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) or an enlarged prostate.Asmany as three in four men with a raised PSA level do not have prostate cancer. For this reason, a raised PSA level is not usually used on its own to diagnose prostate cancer.
GETTING A DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS OF PROSTATE CANCER
MORE INFORMATION King Edward VII’s Hospital Urology Department is one of the UK’s leading centres for urology and has some of the best prostate cancer diagnostic and treatment equipment.
If your results and factors combined suggest that you may possibly have prostate cancer, you will be referred to a specialist hospital doctor called a urologist. Your urologist will then perform some further tests such as MRI scans, ultrasounds and potentially biopsies.

The results of a urine test, digital rectal examination and the PSA blood test are often used together by doctors to assess a person’s risk of having or developing prostate cancer, along with factors such as age, family history and general health and wellbeing. When all of these factors are considered together, it gives doctors a clearer idea of the possibility of prostate cancer.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is a common condition where you are unable to correctly relax and coordinate the muscles in your pelvic floor. A weak or dysfunctional pelvic floor may cause you to have trouble with controlling wind, bowel movements, or as is most common cause urinary incontinence. If you’re a woman, pelvic floor issues may cause you to feel pain during sex, or reduced sensation, while men may have trouble gaining or keeping an erection.
HEALTHFLOORPELVIC floor, it is a good idea to seek out some professional help before undertaking any regular exercises. Just as you might hire a personal trainer at the gym to show you how to use the equipment you might see a pelvic floor physiotherapist to learn how to exercise your pelvic floor in the right way. Once you know what you are doing then pelvic floor exercises can be done anywhere and at any time. There is really no excuse for not doing your bit to keep your pelvic floor in shape.
our pelvic floor muscles support your bladder, bowel, rectum, and uterus by wrapping around your pelvic bone.

While at home exercise are easy and free, I do see patients who have ‘lost touch’ with their pelvic floors, meaning they have forgotten how to engage the muscles, or the muscles have become so weak that the muscles hardly respond. In these situations, I recommend my patients a course of Emsella.Emsella uses electromagnetic energy to induce thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions in each session. The treatment itself is very easy and is done by sitting fully clothed in a chair. The electromagnetic stimulation works in a similar way to the how the brain sends signals to your muscles thereby creating a normal but spontaneous contraction. Importantly, these contractions happen at a very faster rate. By inducing such a high number of contractions, the Emsella will help to quickly rebuild muscle strength. The treatment alleviates the symptoms of incontinence for many of my patients within just a few weeks of starting the treatment.

That’ll be Carrara marble, a stone that has been locked into the contemporary design lover’s vocabulary since the elegantly veined rock fully entered our consciences in 1956 with the launch of Eero Saarinen’s iconic Tulip table for Knoll.
NATURE’S ARTWORK
This is where statement stone enters the equation in unique, can-that-really-have-formed-naturally colours that tick both the eco and the exciting boxes. Hewn from earth yet simultaneously ornamental and with undeniable wow-factor, brightly coloured stone both makes an impact in the home as well as imbuing a space with a soothing sense of the outside. Be gone gentle, subtle shades – the rocks of 2022 are bold, vibrant and ready to shake things up.

SALONE STONES
104 SEPTEMBER 2022 HOME & PROPERTY Say ‘marble’ and the likelihood is something white and grey comes to mind, something with delicate veining and a luxurious, chic appeal which hovers somewhere between the grandeur of ancient Rome and the backdrop to so many Instagram flatlay photos.
While Carrara and monochrome marbles will always have a place at the table, this year’s Salone del Mobile – Milan’s iconic furniture fair which shows us what the most modern of homes will be wearing – said one thing: we’re ready to ramp our rock up a notch.
The Salone presentations echoed these dual desires – materials were natural, sustainable and earth-friendly, channelling the organic as well as exaggerating and playing with it. Colours were based around nature but not afraid to go bright, combining pops of pigment and energy with the tactile and the organic.

Porada’s boldly asymmetric new Berry table is defined by a slab of verdant Lapponia green marble, its top like a solidified slice of plant life found in the forest, while Bonaldo’s Asia vanity is topped by a shapely slice of rich red Rosso Carpazi marble, mirroring the blush and lipstick it’s waiting to hold.
As well as fresh 2022 designs, much loved pieces are turning their backs on Carrara and the colourless and updating their recognisable silhouettes with rich new looks. Menu’s celebrated sculptural Androgyne Lounge Table by Danielle Siggerud is now available in in Calacatta Viola marble, a colourful cousin to classic Carrara, covered in alluring purple wandering lines and shapely chunks, and in honour of its 10th anniversary, the Tobi-Ishi table by Barber and Osgerby for B&B Italia was released in a special edition made from striped white Carrara and rich green Alpi marble, honouring classic Italian architecture.Contemporary rainbow-hued stone designs are conversation pieces. Such exquisite, unbelievable colours, patterns and finishes are made to be showcased, gathered around and delighted over – modern day reminders that there’s still much hidden treasure to be discovered here on Earth.
also step away from marble itself and open our minds to the allure of other stones. Contemporary designers are prioritising beauty and impact over the material’s geological classification and embracing rocks of any name, from onyx to granite, quartz, travertine and beyond. ‘Travertine has a completely different materiality and structure to marble and even in the same colours, can express many different tones and variations,’ explains Jacob Gubi Olsen, Owner and Creative Director of Gubi. ‘We are always curious about new expressions and materials.’

We are all pretty wasteful beings, and it’s becoming increasingly evident that some of our bad habits are causing irreversible damage to the planet. One of the many bad habits we’ve picked up is purchasing cheaply made, mass-produced furniture then throwing it out after getting just a few years use out of it. What a pity! The best way to combat the issue of fast furniture is by opting to re-upholster your old furniture instead. 110 SEPTEMBER 2022 HOME & PROPERTY The terracotta-style tile, simple and organic, yet with so many styling options!Ashome owners embrace a more nostalgic, soulful interior, natural and traditional style finishes are once again in demand. One such product is the wonderfully organic terracotta-style tile. Available in a number of sizes and colours, its unmistakable rustic charm can grace so many interior styles. From a humble country cottage, a grander country house, to a more modern rustic interior and in each setting it is guaranteed to anchor the room scheme with a natural rustic warmth and character.
The humble terracotta tile is very porous, as a result it can stain easily and once a stain gets into the body of the tile it is almost impossible to remove it, hence the importance of sealing the tile to give protection. Due to the body of the tile being so absorbent, this will also limit its use to the interior of our British homes, as once moisture penetrates the body of the tile, frost can split itoh to have a Mediterranean climate!
Baked Tiles have been sourcing the globe to find the very best of this style of product and whilst they no longer require laborious treatments
Fortunately there is a now a new type of terracotta-style tile, a tile that require no maintenance, as the body of the tile is non-porous.
