scape the winter blues and discover a spectacular new display inside the Glasshouse at RHS Garden Wisley, as you experience The Giant Houseplant Takeover, until 1 March 2020. Step inside to find a Victorian house reclaimed by hundreds of houseplants, with every room growing wildly out of control. Eye-catching sights include a parlour palm lounging in an armchair and a giant fern taking a bath. This is a world where the plants set the rules. “Breath-taking, moving, harrowing – David Attenborough and the BBC play us like pianos – and at this point in the evolution of natural history TV, they are maestros. Prepare to weep.” The Guardian After a long season of beautiful autumn colour, winter arrives at Winkworth Arboretum and the trees are bare once again. This beautiful landscape is a secret frosty haven, tucked away in hills just outside of Surrey. V&A’s long-term collaboration with Sir Elton John and David Furnish revolutionises public access to photography. Comprising a significant donation towards the museum’s recently opened Photography Centre with a focus on the contemporary, the collaboration offers opportunities to bring together highlights from the V&A’s world-leading photography collection of over 800,000 photographs, alongside The Sir Elton John Photography Collection. Even in the deepest winter days, you will see a team of vineyard workers in the heart of the Denbies Estate. The Vineyard team are now in full swing with the pruning, commencing in January with another couple of months to go. Spring is a welcome visitor within our sights. The vineyard trails with 7 miles of public footpath are accessible to visitors to the estate throughout the year.

YOUR GUIDE TO CREATING THE PERFECT CONTEMPORARY HOME

T

ransform your home into a modern marvel, with stunning doors, windows and roofing systems from Express BiFolding Doors Feel like your home is in need of a drastic makeover, but don’t want to move location? While this may seem like a difficult conundrum, filled with cost concerns, Express Bi-folding Doors have proven time and time again that giving your home some extra love can be an invaluable investment. Express Bi-Folding Doors have been breathing life back into properties for 13 years, with topof-the-range sliding and bi-fold systems that make the perfect addition for a contemporary home. The quality of the technology and mechanics of these products, coupled with their sleek and stylish aesthetic ensure that your home can get the makeover it needs. This three-bedroom house had seen better days. Its outdated décor,1970s architectural features, and two extensions were not accentuating the property’s large garden and stunning countryside views.

18 FEBRUARY 2020

After purchasing the property, the new owners saw great potential in this large corner plot & planned a huge front to back renovation that included connecting the two existing extensions to create one large open plan space. Their plans also included modernising the home throughout, adding an additional storey to the side extension to accommodate a master bedroom and en suite, as well as building a huge external raised patio area to seamlessly connect to the new open plan kitchen and dining area to the large garden outside, bringing the home into the 21st century.

Thanks to Express’ extensive product range, they were able to introduce glazing solutions throughout the entire property, providing seamless luxury, from the slim aluminium windows to the solar panelled integral blinds. The feature entrance provided a perfect centre piece, with Express’ modern, solid front entrance door with adjacent sidelights leading through to a contemporary hallway. The five-month transformation of this house is nothing short of remarkable, with the full renovation costing £200,000, while increasing the value to more than £700,000, which is more than double the purchase price of the house. THE WAVERLEY INN

Weybridge’s elegant new fish based restaurant by Rarebreed Dining

R

arebreed Dining is the much loved, British steak focused restaurant group in the Home Counties, known for bringing London quality dining to the suburbs and they’ve just announced plans to open their fourth site in Weybridge, Surrey on the 3rd of February. The newly constructed restaurant is located on Waverley Road, a short walk from the Weybridge train station and town centre, in the recently and lovingly restored building, formally known as ‘The British Volunteer’. The restaurant follows a new formula focusing predominantly on a seafoodbased menu, displayed in the fresh fish counter and cooked over an open flame, alongside larger sharing steaks cut from their in-house butchery. The beautifully refurbished space features an open plan dining room, gin bar and garden room offering chefs table dining options. The design concept, led by ‘Harrison’, a specialist architecture and interior design consultancy based in London, who’ve worked with some of the biggest name brands in Hospitality took inspiration from modern environments, British themes and surrounding landscapes. We spoke to the lead interior designer Mathilde to find out more… How would you describe your working style? My working style is artistic, I start with an abstract concept, looking at all areas, often outside of interior design, for inspiration to create a narrative that directs the design development. It’s an entirely

organic process and not fixed on any specific drawing. What attracted you to working with Rarebreed Dining? Having spoken to the team at Rarebreed Dining, I knew there would be a certain level of autonomy. Working with large restaurant chains often means working to a specific fixed brief, so it’s always nice when there is an opportunity to introduce my own ideas. It’s been a pleasure working with a team who are so clearly passionate about their brand. Their energy is transparent and infectious — it was natural for me to buy into a vision that sits so well with my own beliefs regarding quality food and its provenance. What was your inspiration for The Waverley Inn? The concept’s inspiration came from the colours of the local countryside, and the native flora found alongside the River Wey, as well as creating an authentic, homely feel — a comfortable, warm and welcoming design. Along with Rarebreed Dining’s pride in and use of local quality produce. The design is full of subtle connections to the land. What are you most proud of in this project? Everything! Some of my favourite features in the design are the white marble bar top — a ‘‘wow’’ feature as you enter the front door. The meadow hand-painted mural, created by a young British artist, and the Garden Room’s overall character, with its open kitchen and floral hanging baskets under the glass-ceiling. The Waverley inn opens Monday 3rd February 2020.

Love, Romance & Marriage F

Let Specialist Jeweller, Michael Platt, guide you at this magical time

ebruary 2020 offers two great unmissable opportunities for a Marriage Proposal: Valentines Day and Leap Year Day. Is this the right time to make it happen for you and your partner? Only you can know the true answer, but…if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance yes is the right answer! Proposing marriage to the person you love should be an unforgettable, romantic and significant moment; intimate and private, just the two of you, or perhaps very public - all singing and dancing. Each proposal, memorable for its chosen time and place, is symbolised by that one important question and, of course, the box, containing a beautiful enduring Engagement Ring. Feeling rather nervous about which ring? Let Goldsmith & Jeweller, Michael Platt be of assistance. Where to start when it comes to the ring: so many decisions; gemstone or diamond? what shape? modern or traditional? single or multi stones? simple or intricate? gold or platinum? So many choices to make. Michael Platt, specialist jeweller in Wimbledon Village, realise selecting the perfect engagement ring is an exciting but, possibly, daunting experience. With years of knowledge, they readily guide customers through the maze of information. Firstly set yourself a realistic budget, be comfortable about what is affordable. Take note of a partner’s style and current jewellery. The team at Michael Platt will present a range of Engagement Rings, outlining all facts that affect price. Michael Platt relish being involved in a surprise proposal, listening carefully to customers’ suggestions ensuring that the very best choices are made with excellent value being achieved in finding the ideal ring.

24 FEBRUARY 2020

Setting the wedding date may not be a priority at this stage but some thought should be given to the wedding band to ensure it will fit well against the engagement ring and both look good together on the hand. Wedding rings, whether plain, fancy or diamond set, should complement the engagement ring and not overwhelm. If a truly special ring is desired, Michael Platt specialise in Bespoke Jewellery, made onsite in their Workshop. A designer and working Master Goldsmith will be hands on in designing and making the ring, sourcing diamonds and gemstones to suit budgets. Sentimental or inherited gemstones or diamonds, passed from one generation to another, can be transformed into a wonderful new engagement ring. The team take customers through the steps of the Bespoke Jewellery Process. Commissioning an exclusive unique Engagement Ring is an exciting and romantic journey that does not need to be complex or necessarily expensive. However, if selecting a ring feels too risky or complicated, consider proposing with a loose gemstone or diamond. In a beautiful presentation box, it’s a very touching, thoughtful and romantic gesture followed by all the excitement of choosing exactly the right setting together, as a couple. Make getting engaged this February a truly magical occasion at Michael Platt, 1 Church Road, Wimbledon Village SW19 www.michaelplatt.co.uk

oday, just fourteen vast corporations control the majority of car brands on our roads. But turn back the pages to cars of yesteryear and a very different picture emerges, one that is on show in all its glory at Historics classic car auction at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday, 7th March. The classic car auction specialist is offering for sale some 180 widely varying models spanning nearly a century, and accounting for well over 40 different marques from the UK, Europe, the USA and beyond. They reflect a wide spectrum of values, from extremely affordable to high-value exceptional collector cars, and everything in-between. This auction is a true reflection of the incredibly diverse, fascinating and vibrant classic car market and being there is highly recommended. The number of classic cars on our roads continues to grow. Three years ago, The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs estimated there were some 500,000 UK-registered classic cars (i.e. pre 1985), and that number has increased, bolstered too by climbing interest in so-called ‘modern classics’, catering for cars from the 80’s, 90’s up to 2010. This Historics’ auction embraces them all. Alongside a fine selection of British classics from the likes of Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Bentley, Jaguar, MG and Rolls-Royce – and not forgetting the ubiquitous Mini - is a similarly evocative array of international marques from makers including Alfa Romeo, BMW, Fiat, Lancia and Mercedes-Benz, all the way to European exotica from the ‘pillars of performance’ including Facel Vega, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. Firm favourites at Historics regular classic car auctions are so called ‘barn finds’ - including cars that for one reason or another have remained

untouched, frequently for many decades and are ripe for restoration. A number of such cars come to sale at Ascot, some enticingly offered without reserve - which means they will sell to the highest bidder, however low that may be. One, an utterly unique 1947 Rolls-Royce, was owned by the eccentric Nubar Gulbenkian, reported to be one of the richest men in the world. Designed to his brief and built by the noble coachbuiders Hoopers, the car has since been extensively restored and now needs completion after a reputed £200,000 has been spent on it…Truly a piece of important British motoring history. So too is the popular MGB and its coupe variant the MGB GT…A beautifully-presented 1967 example of the latter comes to sale at the Ascot auction, again at No Reserve, delivering a very practical and affordable entry to the classic market At the other end of the spectrum, a supremely elegant and simply immaculate 1969 Lamborghini Islero – just one of five righthand drive models ever built - sets the tone of classic Italian sports cars, and more besides. An immensely valuable car in its own right, this example was driven by Sir Roger Moore and featured extensively in the 1969 film ‘ The Man who Haunted Himself ’. The actor signed the sun visor after the film, which can clearly be seen to this day on the car. Significantly – and specially valuable to firsttimers to the classic car world - there are three preview days to the auction, on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before, when everyone is encouraged to have a thoroughly good and close look at all 180 consignments, with Historics’ highly qualified staff on hand to talk in detail about each car on sale. The Billmyer Equestrian Collection: An Incredible Collection of Hippological History worth £100,000, available exclusively from rare bookseller Quaritch

L

eading London bookseller Quaritch has released a unique collection of antiquarian books relating to horses, riding, and veterinary science. And with prices ranging from under £100 to over £5,000, horse experts, hobbyists and collectors of notable, rare print are set to clamour to own a piece of hippological history. An illustrated catalogue of eighty selected items will also be published this month. The first books in the Billmyer–Conant library were bought in Europe during the Second World War, where John Billmyer, a conscientious objector, was serving with the American Red Cross. Along with his wife, Mina Conant, he built the collection over the next half century. On inheriting the library in 2000, his eldest daughter added her substantial hippological collection, which has continued to grow since. With books on riding, racing, hunting, and horse-training, the Billmyer library has a rich selection of over 150 works of equestrian interest, from horsewhispering and veterinary homeopathy to early satires of riding manuals, guides to riding ‘for ladies’, and a rare horse-skin binding. Highlights include: • Nicolas Beaugrand, Le mareschal expert (1640) - A very rare edition of a popular work proposing horse remedies based on the zodiac. • Gervase Markham, Markham’s MaisterPiece (1643) – Title engraved by Renold Elstracke. Markham was prolific on equestrian books and is known to have lived as a farmer and also published poetry, prose, and plays with some success (there are rumours of rivalry with Shakespeare). Renowned for his ostentation, he

entertained Elizabeth I with his feats of horsemanship. • Jacques de Solleysel, The compleat Horseman (1696) – The first English edition of one of the most influential works on horsemanship. • Delabere Pritchett Blaine, The Outlines of the veterinary Art (1802) - The first history of veterinary science, and the first book to use the word ‘veterinary’ in the title. The most extensive area of the collection covers the development of farriery into veterinary science over the past 500 years, from the first riding manual printed in 1550 to works on racing published in the mid-twentieth century. The books show advances in the field from the sixteenth century, when Carlo Ruini’s observations of the circulation of blood in horses predated Harvey’s discoveries in humans by thirty years, through the controversial establishment of the Royal Veterinary College at the end of the eighteenth century, to scientific treatises in the nineteenth, including an essay by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Alongside the veterinary works of modernising practitioners are popular farriery manuals spanning three centuries, derided by many as the work of ‘quacks’ but fascinating as a record of farriery as practiced by horse-owners before the establishment of the veterinary profession. The full collection is available exclusively at Quaritch. Visit Quartich in person at 36 Bedford Row, London WC1R 4JH, or their website at www.quaritch.com and find them on Twitter (@Quaritch) and Instagram (@quaritch1847).

50 YEARS OF TRAMP

London’s most iconic private members club, TRAMP is celebrating 50 years at the pinnacle of the nightlife industry

38 FEBRUARY 2020

O

pened in December 1969, the Jermyn Street club has welcomed a who’s who of A-list celebrities through its unassuming doors and into the 300-capacity basement of bacchanalia, below. Original members included Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Roger Moore, Sir Michael Caine and sisters Joan and Jackie Collins, but the club quickly became a magnet for movie stars, musicians and even royalty, and before long, Tramp became a byword for sophisticated debauchery. During the 1970s it wasn’t uncommon to see George Best on the dance floor while Sir Matt Busby frantically called the club’s front desk, trying to locate his absent star player; Marlon Brando holding court in the restaurant over a glass of scotch and Amaretto; and Frank Sinatra relaxing on his favourite seat in the lounge area, where guests would fall over themselves at the sight of Ol’ Blue Eyes as they emerged from the adjacent women’s toilets. Sir Rod Stewart once said of the club: “I remember coming out of Tramp when I used to play Sunday morning football and I’d get home at about four or five in the morning and I’d get up about three hours later for an 11 o’clock kick off smelling of booze!” The club’s original decor has been lovingly preserved, with beautiful, 17th Century oak panelling throughout and chandeliers from the Rothschild Palace hanging from the ceilings - save for one, memorable absence, where legendary The Who drummer, Keith Moon leapt from his table and brought the chandelier crashing to the floor before being escorted from the club screaming: “You can’t ban me from Tramp! Where else will I go?”

“During the 1970s it wasn’t uncommon to see George Best on the dance floor while Sir Matt Busby frantically called the club’s front desk, trying to locate his absent star player”

He was welcomed back 24 hours later, after apologising profusely and paying for the damage. But while celebrity anecdotes undoubtedly helped to build interest in this mysteriously secretive club on the border of St. James’s and Mayfair, it has flourished through five decades thanks to its core principles: To offer luxurious service and fine dining in a relaxed and sociable environment; and to treat every member as a VIP. General Manager, David Fleming, says: “Tramp is more than just a members club. It is an intimate space with a limited membership and we pride ourselves on being able to welcome each and every guest by name, remember their favourite drink and where they like to sit in the restaurant or bar. “The club was built on quiet word-of-mouth, with our details being passed on by members on film sets, in business meetings and between bands, and over the years it has almost become a ‘password’ around the world; members frequently tell me how they’ve been to a far flung place and been given the best table in a restaurant because the owner is also a member of Tramp. “We talk about our membership as a family and in many cases, they really are - we have original members whose children and even grandchildren have grown up and joined the club and three generations can use it together. “If these walls could talk, they’d have a lot of stories to tell; but of course, they wouldn’t say a thing - because that’s the Tramp way.” The club launched its 50th anniversary celebrations with a star-studded party in May, attended by Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Michael Caine, Dame Joan Collins, Bill Wyman, Nathalie Dormer, Mark Ronson and many more, and members will enjoy further special events throughout the rest of the year. Prospective members may apply via the club’s website at www.tramp.co.uk/memberships. But remember: What happens in Tramp, stays in Tramp. FEBRUARY 2020 39

Winter at Winkworth

A

fter a long season of beautiful autumn colour, winter arrives at Winkworth Arboretum and the trees are bare once again. This beautiful landscape is a secret frosty haven, tucked away in hills just outside of Surrey. Although autumn may be long gone, you don’t have to look far for colour. The Winter Garden, just a short walk away from the kiosk, is home to camellias and mahonias, both of which bloom during the colder months. Delicate witch hazel flowers appear during the later winter months too, providing bright yellow colour whilst evergreen trees provide a constant source of interest. Visit during winter and you may spot snowdrops tucked here and there amongst the trees, a sure sign that spring is on its way soon. The best displays can be found outside the tea-room and along the Upper Arboretum and Spring Walk. Many of them have been seeded by our wonderful team of volunteers, who provide invaluable support to the gardening team at Winkworth. You can choose from a number of different routes around the Arboretum, some which are level and some which provide more of a challenge. A disabled car park at the bottom of the Arboretum provides access to the meadow and lakeside walk. Wherever you’re headed, sturdy shoes and your warmest clothes are a must, especially on frosty days. Walk all the way down to the lake to the Boathouse and you’ll be awarded with a view of trees shimmering in the clear water, which takes on a particularly calm quality during the winter months. If you’re a keen photographer, early morning mist and frost laden grass make for particularly good photography opportunities. It’s a wonderful chance for the whole family to get outside for some fresh air to blow away the 44 FEBRUARY 2020

The reasons why your son or daughter might need a

Graduate Coach “Graduate coaching will help your son or daughter to discover their career path and provide them with lifelong skills”

I

n the words of Bill Gates: “Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a singer, a tennis player, a dancer or a graduate”. You are familiar with the concept of hiring an academic tutor or a sports instructor to help your son or daughter to excel in a specific area, but have you ever considered getting them a graduate coach to get them on the right career ladder? Throughout your career, you have probably received some career coaching or mentoring that helped you to make informed decisions and map out your career trajectory. Likewise, graduate coaching will help your son or daughter to discover their career path and provide them with lifelong skills to thrive throughout their career. Here are 5 reasons why your son or daughter might need a graduate coach: • There are too many graduates chasing too few jobs. The current supply of graduates looking for jobs is comprised of 800,000 graduates from 2019, 1,200,000 graduates from 2016-18 (who are still searching) and 300,000 international students. • Academic success is no longer a differentiator to employers who are looking for the most experienced and workplace-ready graduates. • Universities see it as their principal task to ensure that students get a degree, and place more emphasis on academics rather than each student’s career. • 90% of graduates studied non-vocational degrees, and thus find it difficult to work out what type of career would suit them best. • The content and delivery of university degree

56 FEBRUARY 2020

courses have remained largely unchanged over the last 100 years, despite the radical changes in the graduate job market, such as 70% of employers seeking graduates with digital skills. Graduate Coach is the UK’s leading graduate career coaching company. Over the past 10 years, the founder of Graduate Coach, Chris Davies has helped 500+ students and graduates to land their dream job. Graduate Coach’s flagship service is their sixstage, one-to-one coaching programme. Candidates gain: • The right graduate job, not just any job. Guaranteed. • Life-long career skills and a network of contacts. • Continued career mentoring after they land a job. The programme’s alumni earn on average £45,000 just 3 years after receiving help from Chris Davies. Other services include interview coaching and a range of online courses. OUT & ABOUT TRAVEL

WILDLIFE

WEEKENDS With so much wildlife on our doorstep, you don’t have to travel far to discover nature, says Sarah Marshall.

S

o often, nature lovers travel long distances to observe wildlife in exotic locations. Seduced by the epic cinematography of documentaries such as Seven Worlds: One Planet, it’s easy to believe all the best animal encounters happen far away. But look a little harder closer to home and you’ll find a surprising number of species. The National Biodiversity Network collects data from different regions around the UK, working alongside 200 members and drawing from 223 million wildlife records, to create the NBN Atlas. But despite the great wealth of wildlife living on our doorstep, there’s a real risk it could disappear. According the the NBN’s 2019 State of Nature report, the UK’s biodiversity is declining, and 15% of species are threatened from extinction. Along with taking greater care of the environment by sticking to designated footpaths and avoiding littering, one of the best ways to protect our precious resources is to get out there and appreciate them. Based on data collected by NBN, Holidaycottages.co.uk have created an interactive map of the most biodiverse places in the UK, counting distinct species ranging from mammals and birds, to insects, plants and mushrooms. Here are three of the top places you might consider visiting...

Scottish Highlands Total number of species: 16,273 A trip to the Highlands is recommended for those wanting to see the most varied plants (2,956) and mammal (67) species in Great Britain. According to 64 FEBRUARY 2020

statistics gathered, this area is the most biodiverse spot in the UK.

Gwynedd, North Wales Total number of species: 14,221 There are multiple nature reserves to choose from in this area of Wales. Abercorris is an area of broadleaf woodland, the Blaen-y-Weirglodd is a secluded peat bog with specialist plants, and Bryn Pydew is wonderful for butterflies.

North Norfolk Total number of species: 10,754 Although it only ranks 11th in the chart for overall number of species, this area boasts the highest number of different bird species (434), making it a hot spot for twitchers. Sport for all Director of Sport, Rob Kift, tells us why sport at Hurst College really is for all

H

urst College has a growing reputation for the quality and breadth of its sporting provision and over the past year has met with unprecedented

success. With a superb 140-acre campus, the college has made huge strides in developing a sports programme which has at its heart sporting achievement for all which pays equal attention to those students who simply want to participate as well as for the elite performers. There is a ‘nobody on the bench’ policy, which means anyone who wants to compete in a team can, regardless of their level. The college has built upon its strong traditions to arrive at a position where both boys and girls compete on an even footing and at all levels of ability and interest. Central to this programme is the ambition to supply every student with a sporting diet to engage them in an enjoyable, challenging and meaningful way - and encourage them to actively pursue activities which they can continue to develop when they leave. A sustained programme of development which included three AstroTurfs, an expanded netball/ tennis court area and a new gym – with a new swimming pool/sports complex in the planning stage - all serve to demonstrate Hurst’s genuine commitment to sport. These facilities play an important role in improving the effectiveness of the sports programme, providing a broad range of activities and the capacity to host major sporting events. The college has assembled a talented coaching team whose passion for their sport has driven a culture which supports the students to be the best they can be. Many come from the classroom, but are supported by professional coaches, who are all experts in their field. Hurst’s unique Player Welfare medical provision,

72 FEBRUARY 2020

which not only provides pitch-side cover on match days but also clinic time and rehabilitation during the week, helps support athletes when managing injury. It is also a part of the college’s wellbeing programme which includes strength and conditioning, sports analysis and individual mentoring. Students have competed in more tournaments and competitions than ever before and the results have been striking not just because of the number of national successes but also in terms of the range of sports on offer and the numbers of teams in each sport. Many students also represent county and regional sides at national level – and some go onto to become professional athletes in their chosen field. Major sports include rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, tennis and athletics; other team sports include football, swimming, skiing, triathlon, equestrian, climbing and golf. In the Senior School, there are more than 45 boys’ and 45 girls’ teams, which means, in the college’s principal sports, there are often four or even five teams at every age group, emphasising the inclusive nature of sport at the college. www.hppc.co.uk

Studying

The Arts I

n the 21st-century classroom, schools are redefining what it means to be “smart” through unconventional means: the arts. Research shows that studying the arts may not only help students get good grades, but is linked to social and emotional development, problem solving, cognitive ability, critical thinking, creativity, empathy, innovation, collaboration, leadership and a wide range of higher-order thinking skills. Reinforcing the benefits of creativity in his ground breaking book A Whole New Mind, Daniel Pink argues that creative individuals are actually the ones poised to become successful and rule the world. Exposure to the arts, namely music, has been found to help children in academic areas including math and languages, while also boosting their intelligence, attention and memory. “All of these skills are linked to the brain’s executive function, which includes cognitive processes such as planning, problem solving, memory and attention,” explains Dr. Sylvain Moreno, lead scientist at Baycrest’s Centre for Brain Fitness in Toronto. The easiest way to train the brain’s executive function? The Arts. Many private schools are embracing innovative arts programs that open up such opportunities as producing and performing in Broadway-style musicals, dancing under the instruction of seasoned professionals, and studying renowned visual artists through subjects like history, social sciences, literature, and science. With state-of-the-art music, drama, dance, fine arts, and digital arts programs, private schools recognize the value of arts education in shaping Well rounded students equipped with the skills

74 FEBRUARY 2020

and abilities needed to be successful academically and in the workplace. They give students, both artistically and non-artistically inclined, the chance to discover hidden talents and passions through specialized arts schools that provide leading-edge year-round programs and generalized schools that include the arts as a key part of the curriculum. What’s more, while some youth may struggle with learning or language acquisition, the arts can help break down these barriers and allow students to shine in ways beyond traditional academics.

hen I speak to parents about what they want for their children, often one of the most important answers is simply to be happy and develop a love of learning. They also want to know that their children will leave school ready for the future with the skills they need to thrive. But what are those skills? Recent research from the World Economic Forum asked executives from the world’s leading companies what they thought would be the most important job skills in 2020. They cited complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and emotional intelligence as the top five aptitudes. Education must give young people the foundations of literacy, numeracy and scientific knowledge plus a broad range of skills readying them for university and beyond. To my mind, there is only one programme that fulfils this – the International Baccalaureate (IB). The IB allows students to select a wide range of topics to study across the sciences, arts and languages, ensuring they graduate with a mix of skills rather than the comparatively narrow subject areas of A Level study for instance. The qualification encourages students to develop an inquiring mind and critical thinking, then apply their knowledge to the world around them. Importantly, in our globally interconnected world, the IB approaches all subjects with a crosscultural perspective. Subjects are studied in the classroom from multiple viewpoints and, coupled with a class comprising of over twenty different nationalities, students develop a broad appreciation of different ways of thinking. For us though, it is not enough that students are simply ready for the world beyond the school gates, we want all our ACS graduates to have confidence

76 FEBRUARY 2020

to pursue opportunities wherever it may take them, make waves and change things for the better. This means encouraging students to embrace creativity, take action on meaningful issues such as climate change, and dedicating time in service to the wider community. Just two recent examples include the five students who took part in internships with multi-national eye care charity Orbis UK over the summer or our student group who fundraise for and then visit ACS Egham’s long-term partner school in Nepal. In an effort to develop students who are intellectually, creatively and physically balanced, our students, the global citizens of the future, work hard on gaining a deeper understanding of social and environmental responsibility and their ability to action positive change within these areas. It’s certainly a very exciting new world that awaits our graduates each year, and they depart our school equipped not only with the necessary skills they need for higher education but also to break boundaries, no matter what their future holds. www.acs-schools.com Candace Rubenstein, ACS Alumna, “Having spent a few years at ACS has been a huge factor in my ability to work with all kinds of different people from different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. Being exposed to people from all over the world taught me that everyone is different and that is not only ok but beneficial especially in group settings in a work environment.”

Why Heathfield is the right choice for ambitious girls with verve &

appy confident girls succeed – that’s the simple but powerful philosophy at Heathfield School. Founded in 1899, Heathfield was in the vanguard of educational establishments advocating the theory that happiness equated with academic success and has always placed high importance on pastoral care accordingly. In the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) Inspection in 2018, the school achieved ‘Excellent in all categories’. The inspectors found that: ‘the overall achievement of the pupils is excellent and represents the successful fulfilment of the School’s ambitious aims’. They also stated that ‘pupils are happy, articulate and confident’ and that ‘pupils grow into young people who make a difference to the world and live their lives boldly’. At A level this year, students achieved well in both academic and vocational subjects, going on to study a diverse range of subjects from Biochemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Nursing and International Business to Fine Art, Photography and Film Television and Radio. Students gained places at top Russell Group Universities including Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Kings College London, Queen Mary University London and Warwick. Other prestigious destinations have included RADA, Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, École hôtelière de Lausanne, Le Cordon Bleu Paris and Parsons in New York. In the past three years, over 94% of Heathfield old girls who graduated, attained either a First Class

or 2:1 degree. “Heathfield celebrates talent and spirit so that everyone learns to be the best possible version of themselves - self-confident, resilient, articulate young women with ambition”, says Headmistress Marina Gardiner Legge. “Our founder, Eleanor Wyatt, wanted Heathfield girls to ‘see the sky’. Whilst she meant it literally, I take it to be a metaphor to allow the girls to reach their greatest potential wherever their strengths lie – whether academic, artistic, sporting, musical or dramatic.” A fulfilling and enriching programme of cocurricular activities and sport, music, drama and the arts ensure Heathfield girls enjoy a holistic and inspiring education. Also strong in the arts, Heathfield students are fortunate to benefit from their relationship with the world-famous London College of Fashion. The school has a wide curriculum for a small school but is about far more than this. Its strength lies in its size - meaning every girl receives dedicated individual attention and is imbued with persistence, grit, confidence and the desire to achieve. Standing in beautiful surroundings just outside Ascot, in a classic Italianate country house set in 36 acres, the school is conveniently located being just 30 miles from central London, 9 miles from the M4 and 5 miles from the M3 motorways. Heathfield operate daily and weekly buses to London and the local area. Entry is at 11, 13 or 16. Scholarships are awarded for Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport at all three entry points. The School holds termly open mornings and private tours are also available. Please visit the website for details: heathfieldschool.net. READY FOR THE FUTURE Barnaby Sandow, Head

School Cobham

at ACS International

M

y goal for every student leaving ACS Cobham is that they should be ready to flourish on the world stage, engage purposefully with their local and global communities and be well equipped to meet whatever their futures may bring. And while even the very best teachers cannot predict every challenge their students may face in life, what they can do is ensure that each young person graduates with the skills and self-confidence they’ll need to tackle them head on. But just what are those skills? Recent research from the World Economic Forum asked executives from the world’s leading companies what they thought would be the most important job attributes in 2020 and their responses made interesting reading. They cited complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and emotional intelligence as their top five, highlighting that while education must give young people a solid foundation of literacy, numeracy and scientific knowledge, it must also impart a broad range of other skills in readiness for university and beyond. So how do schools deliver this? Well, I’m evangelical in my belief that an international education provides the very best foundation for life. The International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Advanced Placement (AP) are two study programmes that successfully marry academic vigour whilst developing a global mindset and other valuable life skills; and both are studied here at ACS International School Cobham. The IB allows students to select a wide range of topics across the sciences, arts and languages, enabling them to graduate with a mix of skills rather than the comparatively narrow subject areas of A Level study, for example. The AP, widely respected

80 FEBRUARY 2020

by universities across North America, allows students to select subjects across the curriculum and complete them in one year. Both qualifications encourage students to develop an inquiring mind and critical thinking, then apply their knowledge to the world around them. It is also hugely beneficial for children to experience a diverse range of nationalities and develop an understanding of different cultures. At ACS Cobham, over 90 nationalities are represented across the school community and this, along with the cross-cultural perspective of the IB and AP, really helps them develop and appreciate different ways of thinking. By offering both academic programmes, the IB and AP, ACS Cobham is able to provide a tailored education for each student, relevant to their passions and learning style. For us, though, it is not enough that students are simply ready for the world beyond the school gates, we want all our graduates to have the confidence to pursue opportunities wherever they may take them, to make waves and change things for the better. In practice, this means encouraging students to develop an aptitude for global citizenship and take action on meaningful issues, such as climate change for example, and dedicate time in support of the wider community. Examples of this by ACS Cobham students are many and varied, but over the years a large number have secured internships with multi-national eyecare charity Orbis UK, while others have worked to raise funds for ACS Cobham’s long-term partner school in Namibia. It’s certainly a very exciting new world that awaits our graduates each year, and they leave us equipped not only with the necessary skills they need for higher education but also to break boundaries, no matter what their future holds. www.acs-schools.com

“As someone who’s looking to be a doctor in London, being able to sympathise with people from completely different cultures than my own is crucial. But even more than that, the support from so many of my teachers really helps me keep inspired” – Gabriel Pucinelli – ACS Cobham student

Benefits of the independent school

W

ith options ranging from boarding schools to modern alternative curricula, there is almost certainly a school to suit each and every child. Here are some of the reasons why parents are choosing to give their children the unique experience of private school and why it’s worth the financial investment.

Enriched academic opportunities One of the accepted benefits of private schools is that they provide exceptional and challenging educational experiences through extracurricular activities, Advanced Placement courses, and the International Baccalaureate programme, just to name a few. The IB programme focuses on school work and on developing you as a whole person. Private school students constantly score top marks on standardized tests and college entrance exams, and many schools have a 100 per cent rate of students attending their university of choice.

Controlled class sizes A comprehensive study on class size made by educational researchers Bruce Biddler and David Berliner in 2002 showed that the smaller the class size, the better the average student performs on academic achievement tests. The gains from smaller class sizes 82 FEBRUARY 2020

are stronger the longer a child is exposed to them. Private schools vary greatly in size, but depending on their teaching style, almost all focus on the importance of small class sizes to individually help students’ weak areas and advance their strengths.

Dedicated teachers In a study completed by the Fraser Institute in 2007, 91 per cent of parents surveyed said the dedication of the teachers was their main reason for choosing private school. Instructors are both qualified and passionate about their subjects, often holding advanced degrees in their field. Within the tight-knit school community, students have close relationships with their teachers who commonly act as role models. In addition, small class sizes make staff members more readily available for extra help or to further challenge individual students.

Parental involvement Private schools are built around open communication between parents and administration, and they make it a priority to involve parents in the community. From frequent parent-teacher meetings, social events such as parent breakfasts and family camping weekends, and the participation of parent committees in fundraising initiatives, families become an integral part of the child’s education. This common ground also helps strengthen parent-child relationships.

“91 per cent of parents surveyed said the dedication of the teachers was their main reason for choosing private school”

A safe environment

Development for today’s and tomorrow’s world

Private schools have reputations for maintaining high standards for discipline and respect. Lower staff-to-student ratios allow for more effective observation and control of school grounds. The strong sense of community found in private schools also discourages dangerous behaviour. In the Fraser Institute study, around 72 per cent of parents surveyed with children in the private school system strongly agreed that their school was safe, which greatly improves the quality of the child’s educational experience and achievement. The discipline they learn also improves their rates for success in post-secondary education when they are in control of their class attendance and achievement.

Private schools go beyond offering the mandatory subjects required by provincial curriculum; they can offer students a wide range of specializations including arts programs, athletics, maths and science. Private schools are responsible for producing many leaders in politics, business and society, with a history of adapting quickly to changes in technology and culture. And today, they are also sought by parents of children with special needs such as behaviour problems or learning disabilities.

Ample resources At private schools, you’ll find incredible resources to support student learning in the classroom, sports field, art studio, and beyond. Quality resources provide students with the opportunity to fully explore their interests and talents.

Extracurricular activities While academics remain the priority for most private schools, many also place a strong focus on a wellrounded education and encourage participation in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, arts or clubs. This involvement helps stimulate students in their studies, as noted in a study at Stanford University that found that students involved in the arts are more motivated to learn and are three times more likely to win a school attendance award. Extracurricular activities can provide a much-needed break from the stresses of academics while developing skills and engaging in valuable social situations.

Privately Educated People Dominate Top British jobs

The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives. In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives. The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated. Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist. “Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.

heir grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated. Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated – as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent. PRE-PREPARATORY SCHOOLS (AGES 2 YEARS - 7 YEARS)

Pre-preparatory schools - also called nursery schools or kindergartens - correspond to nursery and infants stages in local authority schools. In pre-preparatory schools children are taught to read, write, develop numeracy and learn to play. Pre-prep schools are often attached to specific junior schools.Pre-prep school is the first time most children will experience education, as opposed to the daycare provided by kindergartons. Children will have to learn the basics of mathematics, science and English, and a host of other subjects. Outside the classroom, many of the children will be having their first proper experience with team sports, music and/or choral tuition, and the arts.

PREPARATORY SCHOOLS (AGES 7 YEARS -11+ OR 13 YEARS) Preparatory or prep schools, have a full range of subjects leading to admission to senior schools at 11+ or through the 13+ Common Entrance Examination. As their name implies, the preparatory schools are focused primarily on preparing boys and girls for their senior education, and the important public exams that come with it. Free of the National Curriculum, prep schools can differentiate their curricula according to what they think best prepares children for their later education. Most prep school children will be learning a foreign language from the very first year, and don’t be surprised to see subjects like Latin, Philosophy and Physics in the classroom, with

cricket, rugby and tennis all on offer during games. As children reach the end of their time at prep school, most will look to the Common Entrance Exam as their gateway into the senior schools. It is during this transition process that senior schools are also looking for talented pupils for scholarships and other awards, so the very able students may be asked to attend further examinations/recitals/ matches &c, depending on where their particular strengths lie. In the state system, children are tested by the Government SATs, however many schools in the independent sector will have their own internal methods of measuring the performance of the children. GET THE GLOSS

This Nineties favourite is back in fashion and it’s all about attaining a glamorous shine, says Prudence Wade.

Maybelline Baby Lip Gloss Number 25 in Life’s a Peach, £3.99, available from Amazon

ip gloss is one of those items that can take you straight back to the Nineties - a time when all the make-up know-how you needed was the ability to apply a slick of sticky, glittery, berry-flavoured gloss to your mouth. And now it’s back - and luckily, it’s had an adult update. One of the best things about lip gloss is just how easy it is to use. Unlike some of the more complicated beauty trends of the moment - looking at you contouring - all you have to do is swish it on your lips in a vaguely neat way. So here are some of the lip gloss trends ruling the high street and the catwalks at the moment. And don’t worry, formulas have moved on since the 1990s you shouldn’t have your hair sticking to your lips quite so often...

Pale and interesting Two decades ago, the idea of lip gloss giving you a ‘no make-up make-up’ look would have been practically inconceivable. Now, it’s very much on trend. Instead of going for a crazy colour or sticky finish, opt for a shade that suits your lip colour and gives it a softer, natural look. Depending on your skintone, gentle rosy pinks and peach colours work well, making your lips look polished and dewy - like you’ve just rolled out of bed, in a good way. The key to this look - and when applying any lip gloss - is preparation. “Ensure your lips are well prepped by using an exfoliator first to get rid of any dryness,” explains Sascha Jackson, lead make-up artist at Stila

96 FEBRUARY 2020

UK. “If you are using a nude or semi-transparent gloss, I recommend using a lip liner close to your natural lip colour just to create shape.”

Glass lips Once you’ve mastered paler shades, you’ll be ready to graduate to a glass finish; a lip gloss with an extra-shiny, almost mirror-like look to it. “This is a slightly wet look all over, which gives a healthy and youthful appearance,” explains make-up artist Stacey Whittaker. “This particular look is

popular on catwalks and creates an editorial feel. My top tip for applying gloss is that a little goes a long way,” she adds. “Apply a small amount to the centre of your lips and use your finger to carefully blend this towards the outer corners.” With an ultra-glossy lip, it can be hard to know what to do with the rest of your make-up. “I like to team this with a glossy or creamy finish on the cheeks, but then a matte or suede eye,” notes Jackson. “The difference in textures really complement each other.”

Dior Addict Lip Plumping Lacquered Ink Lipstick in Lovely-D, £30, available from John Lewis

Plump it up If you’re not keen on injectables or other enhancements, there are plenty of products on the market that offer a non-surgical plump-up - all you have to do is swipe on some lippy. In fact, the phrase ‘plumping lip gloss’ has seen a 45% increase in searches on Pinterest from October 2018 to October 2019. These kinds of lip glosses tend to include tingle-inducing hyaluronic acid, a beloved skincare ingredient often used to help with hydration - and better hydrated lips can mean a bouncier, fuller pout. Jackson is a particular fan of Stila Beauty Boss Lip Gloss, saying: “It’s enriched with hyaluronic filling spheres which naturally smooth and give a more plump appearance. The pigments are incredible, which means you don’t have to layer lipstick underneath to get a good colour.”

Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam, £6, available from Nyx

Lady in red A bold red lip is a classic look, and one most of us apply with lipstick. But what about trying that red lip with gloss? You might find it’s easier to apply and lasts longer. Either opt for an already shiny red lip gloss, or use any red you have and layer a clear product on top. “For the festive season, adding a soft sheen gloss over a pop of coloured lipstick is bang on trend for Christmas 2019,” says Whittaker. “Opting for a soft sheen will add dimension to your lips and create a plump and full effect.”

THERE’S NO NEED TO LIVE IN THE SHADOWS OF CATARACTS Cataracts are the world’s leading cause of blindness and surgery to remove them is the most regularly performed operation in the UK with figures showing that around 300,000 procedures are carried out every year.Yet there are still thousands of people living in the shadows of cataracts

E

ye experts are urging people to know the signs and to seek advice if they think they are developing cataracts. Mr Sundeep Kheterpal, Senior Ophthalmic Consultant at Spire Thames Valley Hospital, explains that although cataracts are prevalent, they can be treated successfully to restore vision. “A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. Basically the lens focuses light into a sharp image on the retina, which relays messages through the optic nerve to the brain. If the lens is cloudy from a cataract, the image you see will be blurry.” Cataracts develop slowly and hence the symptoms are gradual in onset. The tell-tale signs include blurred or misty vision, glare or haloes around lights, poor vision in low light and faded colours. You may experience difficulty with reading and driving especially in low light. If you wear glasses, you may feel your lenses are constantly dirty and need cleaning. In addition to causing problems with your vision, advanced cataracts may mask eye conditions that affect the retina and optic nerve such as diabetes and glaucoma. Whilst most cataracts develop as a result of ageing, other causes included trauma, medications such as steroids, general health conditions such as diabetes and cataracts can also be inherited.

98 FEBRUARY 2020

“Surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear artificial one. In the past only monofocal replacement lenses were available meaning these could fix your near or distant vision but not both. However, we now have multifocal lenses that can achieve both near and distance vision as well as ‘toric lenses’ that can correct astigmatism,” explains Mr Kheterpal. Prior to the surgery, scans for evaluating the dimensions of the eye are carried out which help the surgeon to precisely calculate the power of the replacement lens required. The surgery takes about 25 minutes and is performed, in the vast majority of cases, under local anaesthetic. Patients are usually home within a few hours and an improvement in vision may be noticed within the first few hours and days after the surgery. It is advisable to take a week off work and most people can resume their normal day to day activities within two to four weeks. “The latest innovations in cataract surgery allow a rapid restoration of sight, and allow patients to enjoy their hobbies and day-to-day life without the constant dependence on glasses and contact lenses,” adds Mr Kheterpal. Mr Sundeep Kheterpal MA, FRCS, MRCOphth Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon Mr Kheterpal consults at the Spire Thames Valley Hospital on Monday’s and appointments can be made by calling 01753 852299.

isa Harris, who has over 25 years in the world of beauty & medical aesthetic industry, is renowned for her expertise in delivering outstanding results, using advanced bespoke technologies to deliver outstanding skin health for the face and body without the use of Botox, Fillers or Surgery. Lisa has recently launched her new Slim Drone treatment she is now offering at their Weybridge clinic and is one out of only 3 clinics in the UK to offer Slim Drone LED-THES. She explains the Slim Drone is far superior to Lipofirm PRO and 3D Lipo, treatments which Lisa has previously used in her clinic. This outstanding body treatment that has sold out in Europe, delivers instant and long lasting results within just 3 weeks. It has become the first body treatment to win “The Winner of Innovative Technology Award” as it uses Pharmaceutical Drone Encapsulation with a navigation system to target fat cells, and allows product to directly enter the fat cells which no other company has yet been able to do. Having tried the Lipofirm PRO, I’m keen to try this new ‘Wonder’ treatment to see if it lives up to the hype! Arriving at the clinic with my post- Christmas bloated belly I change into more suitable attire and the Therapist applies the Slim Drone Solution to my stomach and upper arms. Straps are placed over the product and the treatment begins. It begins with a

As the treatment goes on micro currents (also known as Electrical Muscle Stimulation) are introduced, beginning low and increasing to a level you are comfortable with. The machine uses 8 different currents to target the fat cells, tone my muscles and improve my circulation. It is recommended you have a course of treatments for best results and the best thing about it is; you can have 2-3 sessions per week – meaning Lisa Harris Skin Science can transform your body in just 3 weeks! I’m really impressed with the Slim Drone; it lives up to the hype and more! After my treatment I instantly felt lighter, my skin felt firm and definitely smoother. It was as if the elasticity had been put back in my skin! I’m looking forward to continuing the course for some amazing results.

What’s hot in aesthetic medicine for 2020? Prejuvenation before Rejuvenation

T

he field of aesthetic medicine is a rapidly evolving one, with a growing awareness of available treatments as influencers and celebrities promote the latest trends via social media. Millennials are now approaching their 40s and have no reservations about discussing their skin regimens and procedures online, so the stigma that might have been associated with aesthetic treatments in the past is rapidly disappearing. There is also an ever-increasing desire by the majority of people for treatments that are backed by scientific research – something we definitely see in our clinics - and a subsequent increase in the amount of clinical research being conducted by companies competing in what is a highly competitive environment.

“It has been a fascinating journey of learning to be exposed to scientific advances that are rapidly changing our thinking”

102 FEBRUARY 2020

The trending buzzword in aesthetic medicine at the start of this new decade is prejuvenation. Attitudes are changing and younger patients are seeking out high-performance procedures to maintain their youthfulness, rather than waiting until the signs of aging become apparent. The prevention-is-better-than-cure approach is not limited to long-term skin health, but is widespread in current medical thinking. I’ve been very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel extensively over the past few years, and to work with incredible experts in various medical fields. It has been a fascinating journey of learning to be exposed to scientific advances that are rapidly changing our thinking around the concept of aging, and how we prevent onset of chronic ill-health. These advances are particularly exciting within the field of aesthetic and lifestyle medicine where new concepts are fairly rapidly integrated into medical practice. So what new innovations are set to hit the media in due course, and what practices are set to transform aesthetic medicine globally over the next few years?

“The trending buzzword in aesthetic medicine at the start of this new decade is prejuvenation”

Focus on wellness to prevent future ill-health As science catches up with the impact of nutrition and hormones on overall health and performance, wellness-driven treatments are increasingly becoming part of aesthetic medicine. Instead of simply offering a menu of isolated facial or body treatments, the integrative approach involves evaluating a patient as a whole, and your doctor may integrate nutritional advice, hormonal consultations, hair restoration treatments, medically controlled weight loss and perineal rejuvenation for both men and women as part of an optimal lifestyle management programme. The aim is to help patients not only to boost their self-esteem through looking good, but also to feel energised and healthy.

Less is more

The most popular treatments remain anti-wrinkle and sweat-reduction injections, but there is a growing interest in combination treatments like the “Masculift” and results-driven skin products. In my practice, abdominal fat reduction treatments and VoluDerm - microneedling combined with radiofrequency, used for skin improvement and management of acne scarring - remain the most popular treatments, but I am also frequently asked about the pros and cons of the non-surgical blepharoplasty. Dr Kim Prescott practices aesthetic and lifestyle medicine in Cobham, Esher and Harley Street. She co-developed PSMD Skin Science, and is the co-founder of the PSMD Clinic with Dr Tania Schroeder and Dr Ruslana Popelyuk. Please email info@drkpclinic.co.uk with your questions. www.drkpclinic.co.uk

“Micro-doses of a neuromodulator are delivered to the top layer of the skin to control oil production and redness, and to tighten the pores”

It is not only the social media “It Girls” like billionaire influencer Hula Kattan who are promoting the practice of removing their facial fillers; this is increasingly a widespread trend. I’ve noticed a distinct preference in my own practice for natural-looking, more subtle outcomes, with few requests for disproportionate lips, and increasing interest in skin boosters rather than volumising fillers.

Rise of Regenerative Medicine Across the globe, aesthetic clinics are experiencing an increase in demand for non-synthetic treatments that use the body’s own capacity to regenerate itself. Regenerative medicine encompasses a number of cell-based therapies including use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in popular skin rejuvenation and hair regrowth treatments, and fat-derived stem-cells in fat grafts used in place of dermal fillers. There is a significant growth in stem-cell research and genetic understanding (and therapies), and these are both areas to keep your eye on over the next few years.

Customised skincare A myriad choice of skincare ranges means that patients are searching for proven ingredients and innovative products that are supported by clinical studies. An exciting trend for me as a skin product enthusiast, is the rise of personalised skin care, with ingredients tailored to your particular skin requirements, and even a DNA test that is specific to skin. A beautifully packaged new arrival to the UK aesthetic arena is a take-home skin product formulated in front of you using your own PRP. There is also a huge rise in popularity of organic skin ranges, with celebrity and social media endorsement leading to some very successful brands.

Growth in the male aesthetic sector Numerous trend reports reflect the steep increase in aesthetic treatments for men, driven in part by the drive for optimal health and performance. FEBRUARY 2020 103

Fulfilling Our Fitness Dreams in 2020 T

he start of a new year is always an exciting time. We dream, we hope, and we may even set goals for the forthcoming year. Setting goals fills us with hope about the possibility of what could be. We might imagine what the healthy version of ourselves would look like, we may think about the confidence we will have if we could fit into that outfit, or we may imagine the feeling we’ll get when our doctor finally gives us a clean bill of health. One thing is for certain, our health is irreplaceable. If lost, the consequences could be catastrophic; not only for us, but also for our family and friends. It’s easy to say that we are going to prioritise our health in 2020, but unless we take consistent, intentional action, it’s only a matter of time before something else perceivably more urgent, replaces it. This is where having a professional to assist you, could make all the difference. Director of GF Fitness, Gerrard Finlayson shared the following, “If I wanted to build my dream home, I would solicit the services of an architect. If I wanted to achieve my health and fitness goals, it would be a no-brainer to solicit the services of a personal trainer. No matter how many YouTube videos I watch, I’ll never be able to design a home as well as an architect.” With over 20 years of experience and countless testimonies of life-changing results, GF Fitness personal trainers understand how to turn health and fitness goals into reality. Have a look at what our clients have to say about us:

“I lost 50lbs last year!...It has energised my life!” – Fritz from Cobham

104 FEBRUARY 2020

GF Fitness personal trainer Ryan Delahaye believes the accountability factor that a personal trainer brings, is critical if we are to achieve our goals. “Whether it’s face-to-face or online personal training, my clients know that I am there for them every step of the way. My clients and I have clear expectations of each other, and we have no hesitation to call each other out if we aren’t meeting those expectations. This enables us to not only build long-lasting, fruitful relationships, but also unwavering trust.” Our health is simply a lagging measure of our habits. If we are serious about making our health a priority, we’re going to have to begin to change our habits. Attempting to do it on our own, is risky. However, with the help of a personal trainer, the benefits are two-fold: firstly, our risk is dramatically reduced. Secondly, the likelihood of permanently changing our habits, exponentially increases. GF Fitness’ Online Personal Training operations manager, Angelo Miccoli, believes in simplicity, “My goal is to remove as many obstacles as possible for my clients. I believe in keeping everything simple and straightforward, in order to allow my clients to get on with what it is they need to do.”

erry-toned lips have become a winter beauty staple and this year, they’re more relevant than ever, thanks to the AW19 catwalks. From deep merlot at Versace and Roksanda, to juicy plum at Simone Rocha and Tommy Hilfiger, to purple so dark it was almost black at Yohji Yamamoto - this season, the bold lip rules. But if you’re used to wearing nude tones or classic red, darker shades can be rather intimidating. “Lipstick is all about confidence and how comfortable you feel wearing it,” says Zara Findlay, pro make-up artist at Bobbi Brown. Here, Findlay explains how to find the best berry shade for you, plus three ways to wear the trend, and how to tailor the rest of your make-up...

Finding your perfect berry “I like to call this the Five Finger Trick. Pick up five berry lip colours that you’re attracted to - even if you don’t think they will suit you - in different finishes such as matte, sheer or shiny. Swatch them onto your finger tips and looking into a mirror, place each finger against your lip. You will instantly see whether you like the colour against your skin. Just think ‘yes, no or maybe’. This is all about the process of elimination. Clean off the lip colours that are definitely a ‘no’ and you are left with one or two to try. From there, you will be able to decide which is your favourite colour - or you may just end up taking them both.”

on the lips. If you’re worried about how much colour the lipstick has, my favourite tip is to line and fill your lips with your go-to nude lip liner then add the lipstick on top. This will give you a slightly more muted version of the original colour. To get the fullest colour pay off, maybe for a special event, pick a lip liner that is a similar tone, line the lips, apply lipstick, then add a gloss on top for a full-coverage, glossy finish.

Nars Lipstick in Full Time Females, £22, available from Nars Nudestix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Raven, £20, available from Cult Beauty

Make-up to wear with berry-toned lipstick “If you’re wearing it sheer, you can doll up your eyes and cheeks to add a little more colour to the rest of your face. I love running a little of the lipstick between my fingertips and bouncing it on my cheeks as a soft blusher. If you’re wearing it as medium coverage, you are able to play with how bold or subtle the rest of your make-up is. If you’re wearing it with full colour pay off, it’s best to keep the eyes really subtle. Maybe just a clean liner and a soft wash of a nude shimmer shadow.” Zara Findlay, pro make-up artist at Bobbi Brown; Circle: model backstage at Simone Rocha AW19, make-up by MAC

Natural stone & fine Italian porcelain tiles

F “The company is owned and managed by the founding directors who to this day maintain total control over the selection of products with the same passion as they did when the company was originally founded”

116 FEBRUARY 2020

ounded in 2008, Stonesuperstore.co.uk has been supplying premium quality natural stone and fine Italian porcelain tiles to the public and is widely considered the market leader in natural stone tiles online. Located in Manchester and having recently moved to new larger warehouse & showroom premises, the company remains at the forefront of the natural stone tile business and is the only online stockist of stone & design-led porcelain tiles in the UK. From the inception of the idea, the founders have always stuck to their original plan - quality and price are the key components to the overall success of the company. They are confident that no other supplier online or otherwise can offer the same products, to the same quality standards, for less money. Initially focused on Travertine tiles, the stone of choice at the time, in the last 12 years they have diversified into design-led porcelain tiles sourced from the best factories in Italy, Spain and beyond. This now compliments a wonderful selection of natural stone tiles including some of the worlds most renowned marbles. The company is owned and managed by the founding directors who to this day, maintain total control over the selection of products with the same passion as they did when the company was originally founded. While Stonesuperstore does not carry a huge inventory, every tile has been handselected to provide a range of tiles in all shapes and

sizes with numerous surface finishes to cover most tastes and requirements. While blues and greens are on-trend at the minute for some of the highstreet competition, that’s not what the company is about. Focus is maintained on what it does best and that covers off the majority of its customers’ requirements. If you have a project in the pipeline or you are needing something immediately, Stonesuperstore’s experienced and friendly sales team are on hand to help you through every stage from product selection all the way through to installation. A dedicated team of project specialists including the MD are also available to deal with single or multi-unit project specifications and have a growing reputation throughout the UK for suppling award-winning projects in Manchester and beyond. www.stonesuperstore.co.uk

The Top Lighting Trends For 2020

B

anish winter gloom and give rooms a bright update with some fresh lighting. Gabrielle Fagan spotlights this year’s key trends. Winter’s long dark nights may linger, but if you start the New Year with razzle-dazzle lighting, you can banish the gloom at home and make rooms sparkle. There’s a host of new lighting effects and lights on the horizon to choose from, and experts at Habitat, Christopher Wray, Andrew Martin and Heal’s have made it easy for you to transform your home. Here, they reveal the top trends and their best buys, so you can simply plug yourself in and switch on to 2020’s brilliant lighting solutions...

HABITAT Play with colour: “Introducing colour into the home through lighting is something which is becoming ever more popular,” says Clare Griffin, lighting buyer, Habitat. “Our Habitat colour palette for lighting, in our range of contemporary shapes and designs, lets people easily add pops of colour into interiors.” Rule with rattan: “Rattan’s lightweight, durable, pliable and sustainable qualities make it one of our favourite materials to use in the design studio. People love the unusual 3D forms and design pieces with an obvious hand-crafted, natural aesthetic,” says Griffin. “To move our rattan story on this season, we’ve moved away from just pure rattan to a new treatment of interwoven black and natural stripes, showing rattan being used in a more modern, graphic way.”

CHRISTOPHER WRAY Rock a retro vibe: “Homeowners are seeking more personalised, interesting pieces in their spaces, and there’s a real revival of evocative retro. The distinct bold vibrancy of the Seventies and the chintzy detail of the Eighties are both set to return to interior design,” predicts Chris Jordan, managing director, Christopher Wray. “For a more significant retro installation, we love the Decanter [from £495 per pendant], formed of fluted glass in a multi-light suspension. Its sculptural design is inspired by ancient monuments. Look out for also for Tiffany lamps, which are making a comeback.” Invest in new industrial: “While copper fixtures and exposed bulbs have enjoyed prolonged popularity over the last decade, other aestheticallycooler burnished metals such as nickel and silver, as well as concrete, are set to star this year,” forecasts Jordan. “Pendants zoning kitchen or dining areas, hanging in pairs or triplets, will predominate. There’s less exposure of the bulb with these lights, and more classic forms will be important in the subtle presentation of this upcoming industrial style.”

ANDREW MARTIN Turn on to neon: “Neon lighting is now in high demand and is fast becoming a must-have in styleconscious homes,” says Martin Waller, founder of Andrew Martin, one of the hottest destinations for innovative design. Feminist contemporary artist, Tracey Emin, who expressed her thoughts using 118 FEBRUARY 2020

industrial neon gas lights - including ‘The Kiss Was Beautiful’ and ‘I Promise To Love You’ - is credited with first popularising it in the early-Nineties. Andrew Martin’s artwork collection overlays iconic photography and graffiti prints with modern lightup signage. “Nowadays, no room feels complete without art. The trend for neon lighting highlights the rise of maximalism as a luxury lighting trend,” says Waller. “We have an expansive range of lightup neon poster boards, to add some high voltage wit and rebellion to your walls. The Fifties, Sixties and Seventies-focused designs add a large dollop of nostalgia too.” Let lamps shine: “Think of lamps as art pieces or sculptures, like a design-led finishing touch, and consider how your lighting choices will impact a room even when not switched on,” advises Waller. “Bold designs featuring sculptural shapes, interesting texture or coloured glass make a style statement when on or off. Our Linden table lamp, in plaster white or black, fits this brief perfectly.”

HEAL’S Embrace eco solutions: “Customers are increasingly looking for more energy-efficient lighting solutions and feel a growing responsibility to be sustainable across all aspects of life,” says Claire Anstey, lighting buyer, Heal’s. “LEDs not only reduce carbon emissions by consuming less energy and have a significantly longer life-span, but are also allowing designers to be much more creative. The Ribbon, with its elegant, looping silhouette, is just one of the more decorative sculptural lighting solutions available.” Heal’s new collection, launching in March, has an extended LED range, featuring a host of new sleek, slim, sophisticated designs, alongside the Ribbon. Look for lustre: “Following on from an emergence of coloured glass last year, expect to see a shift towards the more interesting finishes offered by electroplated lighting,” predicts Anstey. “Adding a contemporary twist to light fixtures, electroplating creates a high-shine, mirrored effect for a truly eye-catching, iridescent and distinctive look. “Our recently extended Kyoto range boasts a metallic lustre that creates a reflective surface when unlit,” she adds. “When switched on, the glazed effect enhances the glow of the bulb and creates a warm ambience in darker spaces.”

Healthy

home, healthy

life! In the great pantheon of wellness trends, the home is strangely neglected. There are diet crazes and fitness hacks aplenty - but outside the occasional tidying fad, the home is merely a vessel, a framework in which other lifestyle regimes take centre stage. Given that we often spend more time at home than anywhere else, this might be a little unfair. Wellness, like most things, begins at home, after all. Here’s how to make sure that’s a good thing... WORDS: Luke Rix-Standing

1. House plants You don’t need actual woodland for forest bathing, not when there are snake plants, peace lilies and aloe veras to turn your home into a mini-greenhouse. Study after study has shown that exposure to greenery reduces stress, helps lower blood pressure and stimulates the senses. So shrub up to calm down - from a simple cactus on the window sill, to a miniature jungle of domestic palms and pines. 2. Maximise natural light Like plants, natural light is inherently invigorating and reinforces the circadian rhythms that impact our mood and sleep cycles. Just think of the hefty price hike tagged to southfacing homes, the all-glass exteriors of modern office blocks - or the sinister, claustrophobic feel of a dimly-lit basement. Aside from the obvious (open your curtains), make sure there’s no furniture blocking your windows’ line of sight, using offwhite or cream colour schemes to cultivate a lighter feel, and putting up strategically placed mirrors to send light bouncing round the room. 3. Declutter They say cleanliness is next to godliness, and, though we’re not suggesting a full-scale Kondoesque purge, a clear environment can be an aid to a clear mind. Your home is supposed to be where you recharge, and if you’re never able to find things, pressured by a pile of unopened mail, or in fear of accidentally standing on your laptop, it may be a source of stress in itself. Time to put your ‘floordrobe’ back into the wardrobe, and we don’t mean by just shoving it all under the bed. 4. Address your sleep Poor sleep pas been linked with everything from low mood and fatigue, to shortened life expectancy in the longer term, so creating a conducive sleep environment is an essential step for a healthy home. Make sure summer nights aren’t cut short by leaky curtains (invest in blackout linings if required), use ear plugs to cut out street noise, and dust the area around your bed. If you always sleep better in hotels, there may be a problem with your bedding, and low-quality mattresses can cause stiffness and

120 FEBRUARY 2020

back pain as well as disturbed sleep. It’s easy to undervalue sleep but the more priority you give to time spent in slumber, the more productive and energised you’ll be during the day. 5. Invest in an air purifier Once derided as noisy and unsightly, thanks mostly to a particularly pointed episode of Friends, demand for purifiers is now rising steadily year on year and modern models are sleek, stylish and near-silent. Exhaust fumes, chimney smoke and particulate emissions are just another part of urban life, and purifiers are here to help. 6. Create a designated work space Some 1.54 million Brits now work from home in their primary occupation (millions more do so intermittently), and it’s wise to resist the temptation to work at the kitchen table in your pyjamas. It’s hard to maintain a work-life balance when they operate in the same space, so dedicate a work area that allows you to ‘go to work’ in the morning and leave at the end of the day. Posture is paramount, so invest in an ergonomic chair as a minimum. You might even consider the benefits of a standing desk. 7. Get a pet You don’t need an ‘emotional support animal’ to get emotional support from an animal, and this is another lifestyle choice with the weight of science behind it. Among a whole raft of benefits, pets have been shown to increase life expectancy, substantially slash stress, and even decrease physical pain. We hope it goes without saying that you should only opt for an animal if you’re fully willing and able to shoulder the responsibility and costs of care. 8. Don’t worry, be happy It’s easy to obsess over the ‘shoulds’ and ‘shouldn’ts’ of your home, and end up neglecting what you actually want. Adding value to your home, tapping into fashionable aesthetics - it’s all well and good if it aligns with your tastes, but most homes must be residences first and investments second. Home is where the heart is, and there’s no point crafting a masterpiece of modern minimalism if what you’d really like is a large, squashy sofa.

this year’s top Interior Trends

Rebecca Snowden, Interior

Style Advisor at FurnitureChoice.co.uk, shares her top 5 interior trend predictions for 2020 and how to get the look in the home. reflects the purpose of the room so it’s important to know when to heat things up or tone it down. “In the dining area, fire up the atmosphere with canyon clay on the walls,” Rebecca says. “As a toned-down version of orange, it’s a feel-good colour that invites conversation and stirs up the appetite. Colour block it with the wholesome lines of black dining set to create a laidback vibe that’s both eclectic and effortless.”

4. Luxurious marble finishes

1. Eco-friendly and sustainable practices Incorporating sustainable practices into the home has never been more important or on-trend for 2020. One key way to start is to use non-toxic paint on the walls. Free from volatile organic compounds (VOC), non-toxic paint reduces environmental impact by removing chemicals like formaldehyde in the air, which can cause respiratory problems. “Switching to non-toxic paint is more than just a trend,” Rebecca says. ”It’s a strong reminder for us to be mindful of our choices and the impact it has on our planet.” Going green also presents the opportunity to highlight natural and sustainable materials such as wood, jute or rattan which are a subtle nod to the great outdoors. “Good interior design is not only about aesthetics but also about improving your wellbeing,” Rebecca says. “Choose items that are long-lasting and have an enduring appeal. And don’t forget to add actual greenery too, with indoor plants to bring a burst of life to your space.”

2. Japandi minimalist style A hybrid of Scandinavian and Japanese design, Japandi is the hotly tipped minimalist trend for 2020. Both these styles share the same principles: clean, uncluttered interiors that are defined by functional yet sophisticated statement pieces. “The Japandi trend brings together all the details we love about Japanese and Scandinavian design by focusing on simplicity,” Rebecca says. “In the living room, stick to the simple silhouette of a grey fabric sofa and a neutral palette which ticks all the boxes of Japandi by staying true to its minimalist philosophy.”

3. Earthy colour schemes Warm, earthy hues are set to be a favourite in 2020 and can be incorporated into many areas of the home for a bold but relaxing twist. In this update, the colour scheme 122 FEBRUARY 2020

Known for its glamorous finish, marble heads to the dark side with black marble taking the spotlight. “Black marble is set to be a big trend for 2020,” Rebecca declares. “Chic and dramatic, a black marble table in the dining room displays all the hallmarks of luxury with its elegant high gloss finish but with a touch of modern edge. Pair it with curved black fabric dining chairs for an Art Decoinspired touch. However, if a black centrepiece is too over the top for the home, a classic white marble table will always be a timeless pick. Opt for a style with a central pedestal design to maximise space and legroom.”

5. Modern bohemian decor Bohemian-inspired decor gets an update next season by moving away from its usual explosion of colours and patterns towards a more paredback and sophisticated look. “In 2020, we will see a modern take on bohemian decor that’s all about creating a soothing atmosphere with soft, neutral fabrics and rattan,” Rebecca says. “A neutral palette sets a solid foundation to start mixing and matching textures. The fabric and rattan layers add depth to the bedroom while sticking to bohemian design’s signature style.” www.furniturechoice.co.uk

Promotion Agreements

Why they work (in the right circumstances) Stephen Donnelly

L

from SJD Projects explains more…

andowners with land capable of being put forward for residential planning applications may face the choice of developing the land’s value through an option agreement or through a promotion agreement. In a “traditional” option agreement the Developer would most usually offer a price per unit outcome and then through a series of conditions, exclusions and exemptions undermine the ultimate price paid to the Landowner at Completion. Alternatively they would offer a simple buy out figure, which would be significantly less than the eventual value of the land with planning. Under either example if they have offered too much at the outset the option holder may chose not to execute the option at all and the landowner may have lost significant time in the process. The nature of the option agreement is necessarily in opposition to the seller as the developer seeks to reduce the Land Value as much as they can. Their Profit is there but buried in the fine print. On strategic land, they would typically be working on planning gain margins in excess of 35% of an open market valuation. The Promoters margin is explicit and the

124 FEBRUARY 2020

Promoter is incentivised to produce the best possible planning outcome for mutual advantage. They also risk their own capital in the promotion process. This is on a strictly reward for outcome basis. In a Promotion agreement the price paid is the best price available in the marketplace subject to a competitive bidding process and with no imperative to complete immediately on planning consent so any market fluctuations can be mitigated or exploited. A Promotion Agreement requires a partnership arrangement between the Landowner and the Promoter to work best. The Landowner’s whole interests are protected and they may choose as little or as much involvement as they wish. A criticism of the Promotion process is that as the consent is not tailored to a specific end user it may produce a consent that local developers may not wish to buy. We use our expertise, capital and market knowledge to deliver the best possible project for the site in full knowledge of local market characteristics. Architectural character and quality can be preserved in the project through good design without incurring excessive build costs. As a Promoter we are committed to place making, to ensure the quality and the long term sustainability of the community. We also believe that this drives the best value outcomes. Our promotion would be buildable, value engineered and packaged for sale to ensure that the sale price is maximised.

The Boris Bounce

Is it real and what will the effect be on the Elmbridge market? Jamie Wheatley explains more…

I

f you have any interest in the news and particularly property then you can’t have helped but hear about the Boris Bounce, the supposed positive effect that the preChristmas election result has had on the housing market. If we step back and look at the preceding 12 months leading up the election then the market was in a very gloomy place for buyers, sellers, renters and landlords. There was huge uncertainty causing caution amongst all involved. Nobody wanted to commit and so property was going unsold and unrented as people sat on their hands while they waited to see what would happen. Unlike previous market downturns though, this wasn’t being caused by a recession, or high interest rates, or unemployment, it was just people being cautious because we are going through unchartered waters. We have seen numerous market peaks and crashes in the last 30 years but none of us have ever been through Brexit! So when the election came along, it was almost inevitable that whichever way it went, we would see a huge exhalation as everyone

126 FEBRUARY 2020

relaxed and felt they could move forward. The fact is, we still don’t really know what Brexit will bring but we are all fed up with waiting and have decided to move again anyway. The phones are ringing, houses are going onto the market for sale, tenants are looking to rent, buyers are out again. This doesn’t mean prices are going up in the immediate future, it just means transactions will happen and fluidity returns, hooray! In sales I believe supply will keep up with demand and this will keep prices from overheating too quickly. However, there is a very different landscape in lettings. Continued tinkering with the private sector by the government is making it less attractive to the traditional landlords who miss the old days of 5-10% yields. The private rented sector will be facing a crisis in the immediate future with a severe lack of stock and a growing number of tenants in the market. This can only mean one thing, a rise in rents. Sorry tenants, you can blame the government for this one but if you are an investor, or thinking of investing in rental property then this is a very good time. Capital values are relatively low and new stock will be coming available this spring and summer. If you can stomach a bit more legislation and less tax benefits then the long term investment in property is still one of the safest places to keep your money. If you are considering it then knowledge and research is key. We have been dealing in the investment and rental market in Elmbridge for 30 years and have exceptional experience of all aspects of the industry. We love to talk property so why not call or pop in for a chat. Jamie Wheatley is Director at Martin & Wheatley, property experts in Elmbridge 01932 855801

‘Health & Wellbeing’ at its royal finest at King Edward VII Estate

A

t the start of this new decade, Metis Homes has been helping buyers achieve their new years’ fitness resolutions by combining physical health, mental wellbeing and the environment at its boutique collection of homes at the King Edward VII Estate. Nestled within 165 acres of woodland and green spaces just outside of Midhurst, the development is dedicated to walkers, cyclists, dog walkers, children and wildlife, providing an opportunity to exercise in a calm and relaxing space which is known for relieving high blood pressure, obesity, stress and depression. Residents can also relish mornings with the papers in the Arts & Crafts main building’s sumptuous reading room or dining hall or retire for a blissful afternoon with a good book to the iconic formal gardens, originally laid out by influential 19th century garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll. The original gardens were crucial in the rehabilitation 128 FEBRUARY 2020

of patients recovering in the hospital due to Jekyll’s beliefs in the healing power of plants. Having been beautifully reinstated by City & Country, along with three miles of ‘measured walks’ which were originally designed for patients to help boost immune systems, reduce anxiety and improve sleep, residents can also benefit amongst the fresh air and natural surroundings. For those feeling active, the Estate also boasts a gym offering workout and resistance equipment, and a spa style swimming pool complete with sauna and steam room. A tennis court will also be built in the near future. Residents can also continue their ‘health and wellbeing’ journey when not at home. The Estate is located on the doorstep of the South Downs National Park which offers miles of beautiful, undulating West Sussex countryside. The relaxed, rural character and vibrant community spirit of Midhurst itself earnt its recognition as one of the best places to live in the UK, whilst local wellbeing facilities include Cowdray Park (which hosted the largest yoga gathering last year), Petworth Park, tennis, badminton, pilates, yoga and health food shops. Previously the site of a tuberculosis sanatorium founded by King Edward VII in 1906, Metis Homes has built nineteen three and five bedroomed homes which combine contemporary luxury with period charm, all named after classic Royal British names. Each home benefits from unusually large bedrooms, French windows which open into a private landscaped garden, whilst most also boast a studio above the double garage -an ideal space for a fitness room perhaps. To arrange a viewing visit www.metishomes.co.uk or call 01962 383038. Prices start from £545,000 with help to buy available.
