The original Routemaster, which is owned by Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, was kindly driven down to the School by volunteers from the Museum. Dressed in conductor hats that they had made, the boys and girls had a chance to explore the iconic British bus, and even tried their hand at giving out tickets. uildford Fringe Festival is Surrey’s premier openaccess, multi-arts festival which incorporates all genres of art including theatre, music, comedy, dance, exhibitions, talks, burlesque, film, cabaret and more! The festival, supported by Guildford Borough Council and Experience Guildford, runs throughout the month of July, and it promises to be the best yet. ‘This will be our third year and we have a great line-up of acts and events, I really think there is something for everyone.’ says Nick Wyschna, the director of Guildford Fringe Festival. One of the highlights of the 2015 Festival promises to be the ever-popular Lucky Dog Theatre Productions,

Guildford Fringe Festival has 10 venues this year which includes The Back Room of The Star, Firefly @ The Keystone, The Legion, Bar Des Arts, The Keep, The Bellerby Studio, The Mill at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, The Electric Theatre, Clandon Wood Natural Burial Reserve and G Live. The headline show of the Fringe 2015 has to be the Hundred Watt Club Burlesque and Cabaret which is being performed on the main stage of G Live on 25 July to close the festival. “This is such a great night out, a proper evening of variety!” Nick continues: ‘But well before the closing show we’ve got over 90 events happening across 10 great venues so do check them all out”.

ith the arrival of another new royal baby, many people might expect getting pregnant will be easy but one in six couples may struggle to conceive when they want to. Since 2009 Spire Clare Park Hospital has been offering IVF (in vitro fertilisation) treatment in conjunction with a specialist

consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Frimley Park Hospital and Clare Park Hospital in 2006. Mr Elkington helped to set up the satellite service for couples requiring IVF treatment in the Surrey, Hampshire and surrounding areas and has helped couples realise their dream of having a baby.

Modern day life is just so busy and seems to be getting busier…Don’t forget to have a baby! Fertility Centre and offers a full range of fertility treatments. Patients may have subfertility or require IVF for a number of reasons: unexplained fertility, tubal disease, endometriosis, ovulation problems or male factor infertility. It’s not usual that the first baby arrives all too easily but when couples want another one it doesn’t happen…. At Spire Clare Park Hospital, our fertility specialist, Mr Nick Elkington offers pre-conceptual advice, fertility investigation and treatments. Simple measures, such as weight loss, taking folic acid, stopping smoking and advice about timing of intercourse, is sometimes all that is necessary. Sometimes medication or fertility surgery are indicated. IVF is emotionally and physically draining. Usually it requires about six trips to the fertility clinic. By choosing to go to Clare Park, patients benefit from having consultations and the majority of their IVF care locally, and also from the expertise of the Guys Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) for the egg collection, embryology and embryo transfer. Lead by Mr Nick Elkington, (consultant gynaecologist and fertility specialist) the fertility service at Clare Park provides a dedicated and personalised environment for couples. Assisted by fertility nurses, Mr Elkington, sees patients for the initial IVF consultation, organises their medication, monitors their response to treatment and orchestrates the date for their egg collection in London at Guys Assisted Conception Unit (ACU). A

t dentalessence we pride ourselves in creating healthier, straighter smiles. Teeth straightening has become the most popular treatment that patients seek from their dentist over recent years. Dr Anand and the team at dentalessence use a system called Quick Straight teeth to achieve desirable results for patients which can take as little as 16 weeks for some cases.

Principal partner Dr Anand says ‘Due to its remarkable affordability, the treatments are becoming very popular with patients who are delighted with such great results in such a short period of time. We offer free, no obligation consultations to our patients to establish if they are suitable, and provide a written treatment plan so patients can take their time and make an informed decision.’ Quick straight teeth involves the use of either fixed white braces or clear, removable braces to move teeth gradually and painlessly thus avoiding the need for traditional unattractive, metal ‘train tracks’ and several months to years of treatment.

White fixed braces

All cases are carried out without extractions and with minimal discomfort. We provide complementary teeth whitening for all patients at the end of their orthodontic treatment so they can enjoy the benefits of a brighter whiter smile as well as straighter teeth - both treatments which have proved to increase patients’ confidence and overall well-being . Our dental practice boasts a warm and friendly environment where even the most nervous of patients are quickly put at ease. We have a team of experienced and highly skilled staff who will make your dental journey as pleasant and comfortable as possible. If you would like to arrange your complementary consultation with one of our quick straight teeth accredited dentists please call us today and you too could be well on your way to a straighter, whiter smile.

Be a glow-getter Let’s face it, sunbathing in the UK is generally only possible on about 1.5 days of the year - so if you want to get golden, you’re going to have to enlist some help. But you won’t have to go far. This season, there’s a whole host of new bronzing and sunless tanning solutions that will have you glowing in no time. From one-minute wonders to week-long prepping products, here’s our tan-tilising guide to faking it... By Katie Wright, Press Association

IF YOU’VE GOT... ONE HOUR

Given 60 minutes to play with, you’ve got time to go for an all-over application - but need a product that gets to work quickly. Cocoa Following Cara Delevingne’s floral painted piece Brown 1 Hour Instant Tan at the Met Gala (which reportedly took 11 hours to Mousse, £7.99 (www.superdrug. daub) and countless celebs’ Instagram snaps showing com) develops in one hour (but off their metallic fake tattoos, body art of the faux you can leave it for up to four) variety is clearly having a moment. Get in on the tat’ then washes off, and has a lovely action with Bohemian Jewellery Tattoos, £16.95 Tahitian Gardenia scent - plus, it per set, perfect for accessorising an off-therecently got the Instagram seal of shoulder gypsy blouse or low-back dress approval from bronzed model Kylie (www.bohemianjewellerytats.com). Jenner, causing a Stateside sell-out.

For a super-speedy tan boost, bronzer is your best friend. Clarins Aquatic Treasures Summer Bronzing Compact, £30 (www.debenhams.com), is a super-sized powder palette composed of three complementary earthy hues plus a shimmery golden highlighter, so you can add definition with the browns, or sweep a big kabuki brush over all four. Benefit’s Hoola is the UK’s best selling bronzing powder, but now they’ve invented a liquid version called Dew The Hoola, only available as part of the Benefit 5 Piece Do The Hoola Kit, £23.16 (www.qvcuk.com). Use it alone or on top of your foundation for a subtle sheen.

Tanning before a big party or wedding? You’ll need to do some skin prep, starting with a non-oil exfoliating scrub. “Next, ensure your hands, feet, elbows and knees are moisturised, as self-tan will cling to dry areas, whether it’s wash off or not,” says self-tanning expert James Read. “Make sure you’ve removed all body lotions, make-up and deodorant immediately prior to applying your tan, as this can affect the end result.” James Read Bronzing Mousse, £25 (www.jamesreadtan.com) dries quickly, develops over three to five hours and doesn’t need to be washed off.

IF YOU’VE GOT... 10 MINUTES

IF YOU’VE GOT... 24 HOURS

An all-over spray tan is best left to the professionals, but the latest at-home innovations are easy-peasy to use. Givenchy Croisiere Brume Bonne Mine Powder Spray, £33 (Escentual.com), dries to a silky matte finish, the density of colour can be controlled depending on how far away you hold the nozzle. Use it as a base by blending in with a foundation brush, or add a light spritz over your face and decollete if wearing a shoulder-baring top. Diego Dalla Palma Spray On Tights, £16 (www.marksandspencer. com), is a great quick-fix solution for pasty pre-summer complexions, and not just for legs. Spray on evenly for a hint of colour that easily washes off.

IF YOU’VE GOT... EIGHT HOURS

Applying self-tan the night before an event gives you one less thing to worry about on the day. But how to ensure even application? “Always use an applicator mitt. This ensures an even, streak-free finish, without leaving the palms of your hands deeply golden,” says St Tropez’s tanning expert Jules Heptonstall. “Swipe the mitt up the body, starting at the feet and moving upwards to cover the whole body, gently buffing the product into the skin. When tanning hands and feet, don’t add any additional product to the mitt, just use the residue from the body application, this will be enough for these areas.” For an overnight sensation, try Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Weekly Self-

he says: “My husband and I don’t often share beauty products, but we were lured by this brush’s promise of clearer, glowing skin in just one minute. It comes with three attachments (one for normal skin, one for sensitive skin and a massager), which vibrate and rotate to deep-clean and buff. You simply hold it against skin, moving it around gently, in the T-zone and then both sides of your face - there’s a timer to let you know when you’ve spent 20 seconds on each area. “I found the normal brush too harsh and had better results with the sensitive one. I tried using different

cleansers with it, and although my face did feel clean, I didn’t notice a vast improvement.” He says: “ I liked the fact the brush got into hard to reach areas, like around my nose, but

ood cladding, despite its many drawbacks, still remains a very popular choice when it comes to cladding, fascias and soffits, but like with all choices relating to protecting your home, there are pros and cons. Selecting wood as a building material can lead to a variety of problems not associated with today’s modern virtually maintenance free alternatives. For example wood cladding can attract insects like termites, which can damage it significantly, plus it is vulnerable to fire. 5 8 J U LY 2 0 1 5

In addition, fascias, more often than not, tend to get the most exposure from the elements than soffits for example. Whilst traditionally in the past fascias were made out of wood, but now more modern durable alternatives are available. When wood is exposed to prolonged sunshine or rainfall, it can swell and/or crack, with the consequence of the paint starting to peel away, making the entire property look uncared for and in need of repair. It is when gaps

ends, as more often than not, when the old fascia boards are removed it breaks up sections of the mortar, loosening the end tiles. An experienced roofline contractor is more likely to be able to cause less disruption to existing roof tiles and if they are disturbed have the expertise and materials on hand to be able to re-bed the tiles safely and securely. Whilst there is obviously an initial financial outlay of getting a professional home improvement company with a

By choosing wood, you are “signing up” to the additional expense of having to stain or paint it many times over the years appear that insects can find a new “home” and the beauty of wood starts to lose it’s appeal, especially as it requires regular costly upkeep. Because the primary role of exterior cladding, fascias and soffits is to protect a property from water ingress and damp (along with extremes of cold and heat), if the outer structure is damaged or becomes frail, your property by definition is less protected and at risk. By choosing wood, you are “signing up” to the additional expense of having to stain or paint it many times over the years. Also wood can develop colonies of moss, algae, or mould which in turn may lead to rot. A substantial number of UK property owners still choose wood because of its natural beauty, and also as it allows them to elect from a wide range of stain or paint colours. It is easy to work with and fit, plus biodegradable if not protected with preservatives. The main benefit of fitting UPVC roofline is the very low maintenance requirement, only needing a wipe down with warm soapy water every couple of years or so. There are several ways to go about the fitting cladding, fascias and soffits to your property. Traditionally one either clads over the existing cladding, fascias and soffits, or preferably ensures a full strip off of the existing wooden materials. It is important to make certain that ventilation is fitted in the soffit boards, so that your property does not suffer from condensation in the loft space, which can remain undetected until significant damage is done. Professional companies will rightly advise complete removal of any existing wood material, unless it is in remarkably pristine condition, and you/they can be confident that it will never cause any issues in the future. Before deciding to try and do a DIY job, consider whether or not you will be 100% safe and confident working at the top of a ladder or on a tower, as replacing cladding, fascias and soffits or guttering and downpipes is not a job for the inexperienced or fainthearted, so you might want to think carefully if you have the knowledge and experience to carry out a safe, aesthetically pleasing and watertight installation. There is also the issue of re-bedding the tiles on gable

proven track record to replace your roofline, the long term benefits to your property, guaranteed workmanship and peace of mind outweigh the risks and dangers of going it alone.
