Introduction

Dear Division 7, I can’t believe that I am publishing my last newsletter and that my term ends in about a week! Serving as your lieutenant governor this year has been life changing. I would like to thank you all for being such pleasures to work with! Enjoy this last issue as I discuss some final things and recap a year of service and fun! To the underclassmen: may you all continue serving your homes, schools, and communities. To the seniors: I wish you all the greatest of luck in your future endeavors and may you all have lots of fun in Circle K. Never lose your will to better the world. Yours in Caring and Service, Josie Suddeth Lieutenant Governor of Division 7

ICON As many of you know, Kiwanis International is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Because of this, Key Club, Circle K, and Kiwanis are having one large International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana to celebrate. International Convention is one of the coolest experiences a Key Clubber can have. Attendees get to elect the International Board, attend a plethora of workshops to help them grow as servant leaders, listen to inspirational speakers, attend a multitude of sessions and much more! This year will be extremely cool because it is the 100th anniversary. Another great aspect is the fun! ICON is in Indianapolis which is ranked the best place to hold a convention! It will be a wonderful city to spend ICON. The New Jersey District is driving by bus. While on the way, we are going to make a few stops. We will stop in Hershey, PA; Columbus Ohio; Sandusky, Ohio at Cedar Point Amusement Park; and Cleveland, Ohio at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is going to be an awesome ICON! If you are worried about the price, do not fret! Many attendees have been able to go after talking to their sponsoring Kiwanis Club and setting up online fundraising pages. Please contact me if you would like the registration. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions about ICON.

Year Highlights Regional Training Conferences this year were awesome! Attendees learned a lot through different workshops and shared ideas with fellow service oriented teens! Fall Rally was very successful! We broke our attendance goal and attendees learned a lot about Key Club. And our division won the spirit stick! This year I had the opportunity to attend Kiwanis Family Conference (KFC) in Black Mountain, NC. I got to experience fun workshops, do fun team building exercises, and meet lots of K-Family members!

Key Leader was a lot of fun! All attendees made memories that will last a lifetime while becoming servant leaders and making friends! This year the New Jersey District raised money for The Eliminate Project by holding a series of divisional volleyball tournaments that flowed into a Tournament of Champions at the District Eliminathon. Our divisional tournament was very fun and very successful! We raised $330. This year I got to serve as chair of the Midwinter Training Conference! Midwinter is for all elects and candidates where they learn more about their jobs. It was a lot of fun teaching workshops, having a board meeting, doing fun activities and mingling with the new board!

Outside Organizations

Key Club International has recently teamed up with The Thirst Project, an organization focused on creating wells for clean drinking water in impoverished nations around the globe. Over 748 million people do not have access to safe, clean drinking water, and nearly 4,100 children die every day from diseases caused by contaminated water. That is almost one child every 21 seconds. Water-born diseases resulting from contaminated water consist of eighty percent of all global diseases, causing more than 2.2 million deaths each year. Constructing a well to provide water for all of these people seems like it would cost an incredible amount of money, right? Well, it doesn’t! For only $7,800, a well can be built to indefinitely serve a community clean and accessible water. Workers need only to reach the water that already existing in aquifers one hundred to three hundred feet underground. How can my club help give people all over the world access to clean drinking water? Individuals and groups have the opportunity to pick an area for their funds to be donated; a simple monetary donation builds a well and builds a future for an entire community. Your club can help by holding a fundraiser to aid in collecting funds, or by setting aside some money from your club’s budget. For more information, visit http://www.thirstproject.org/ or contact your lieutenant governor with any questions you may have about The Thirst Project.
