Introduction

Hello Division 7! I can’t believe my time with you all is almost over! This month The Suddeth Scoop comes to you with Divisional and District Updates as we end the service year. The biggest focus right now is DCON. As I have been stressing since the beginning of my term, DCON is a truly enchanting experience and leaves an attendee with nothing but important lessons and fond memories. The theme this year is Harry Potter. Division 7 is Slytherin! As always, never hesitate to contact me with any questions! Yours in Caring and Service, Josie Suddeth

Lieutenant Governor of Division 7

DCON

What is DCON or District Convention? DCON is weekend long celebration where all the outstanding accomplishments of clubs around the state are acknowledged. We also kick off the start of the new service year! The District Executives are elected after rounds of speeches and caucus questions. The 2015-2016 District Board is also inducted. It is a learning experience for all attendees! Attendees attend various workshops ranging from respective officer positions, recruiting to dancing! DCON has various fun elements! It is right on the beach and boardwalk! There is free time on Saturday and many attendees take advantage of this! There are also dances and fun meals. DCON this year is from March 27th-29th at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch New Jersey. The DCON registration packet can be found in the December Mailing. DCON is my favorite Key Club event and I hope to see many of you there! Please contact me with any questions regarding DCON!

Announcement

The final DCM of the 2014-2015 Service Year will be March 7th at 1pm at Panera Bread in Toms River. Every club must send at least one delegate. Please notify me by March 3rd who from your club will be attending. If I don’t have enough responses, the DCM could possibly be moved to a different date or time that weekend.

Service Project Ideas

With the end of one service year comes the start of the next! Officers for the 2015-2016 service year should meet soon after their elections to discuss plans and possible projects for the next service year. Remember, many schools require time to process events so make sure paperwork for these things is sent in well in advance. Below are some ideas to tell your elects about!

Service Projects: ● Adopt a Park ● Beach Cleanup ● Read for Kids ● Send groups to the nursing home ● Children's Specialized Hospital

Fundraisers: ● Annoying Music in the halls ● Dime Wars ● No Shave November Contest ● Crush for a Crush ● Fish and Chips Dinner ● Battle of the Bands ● Country Fair

District Eliminathon Recap On February 8th, the District Eliminathon was held at Arthur L. Johnson High School. Over $700 was raised for the Eliminate Project. That's over 400 lives! The Big Digs from Division 12 won the tournament. The Jackson 6, the winners from our divisional tournament, made it to the Final 4! From all the Eliminathons, over $4000 was raised for the Eliminate Project. Great work!

Outside Organizations

Make-A-Wish grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States and its territories, on average, every 38 minutes. This foundation believes that a wish experience can be a game-changer. From granting trips to exotic destinations to arranging celebrity lunches, this organization does it all for sick children. They truly make a difference in the lives of children and their families which is what the Kiwanis family believes in. How can my club help Make-A-Wish? Regarding donations, Make- A- Wish accepts money from single donations, online fundraising pages and monthly sponsorships. Hold a fundraiser or set aside money in your club’s budget to donate. They also accept unused airline miles. A club could also attend or promote fundraisers arranged by different chapters of the foundation. If you know an adult that would like to volunteer, adults can help as a wish granter, office worker, translator, fundraiser, speaker or event staff member. Please visit http://wish.org/ or contact your lieutenant governor with any questions.
