Between Switzerland, France and Italy, L’arve, a valley from Mont-Blanc

SEIZE THE SUMMITS TO EMERGE, THE DIFFUSED ARVE RIVER

Location / Chamonix - Sallanches - Passy / 500 ha Supervisor / B.Tanant Jury / P.Moqay - F.Guilloux - A. Sinaï - T. Aufret-P. Duration / 6 months / 2020

MASTER’S FINAL PROJECT Expertise: Agriculturaldesign/CatchmentPlanning and design / Resilience / Wetland and Lake Design During the Anthropocene era, the glaciers of Mont-Blanc experienced climatic uncertainties making them more and more unstable. Through the prism of landscape and its risks, this project oscillates between the origin of these risks and the site itself. As a result, it is clear that the climatic uncertainties that the Arve Valley is confronted to today raise issues to water and regional warming. In the near future, it will be necessary to accommodate the larger quantity of water to keep the territory habitable and limit the damage while maintaining a freshness characteristic of a mountain valley. By positioning ourselves on a long-term vision going through several past and present parameters; redistributing the Arve River, seizing the surrounding slopes and emphasizing the fluctuations caused by external forces having consequently a large impact on the landscape. 8

BARROS PARK - REACTIVATE A CAR PARK IN CITY CENTER

Description / Public space competition (2nd Prize) Location / Villeurbanne Client / Ville de Villeurbanne Year / 2022 Association / reGénération - CAP Vert VRD

Expertise : Brownfields / Landuse / Park / Regeneration/ Playground / Water management The Barros Park is a revitalisation project based on the transformation of vast carpark to a park able to receive livable spaces. Our proposition is declined in following actions of reactivation life in theses spaces by ground renaturation, water management design, plants strategy, public activities organisation in order to be connected to established urban forms and dynamics.

The park is organized around several complementary sectors : food, sports, playful and cultural. Main flows are revolved around a large North-South planted avenue surrounded by boules pitches. This area is design to support cars parking during events. Buildings outskirts are in relation to the different activities : a reading garden, more quiet, next to the library and shared vegetable gardens in contact with the market building. Several ambiances are created from the shady wood to sunny lawn, and all existing trees preserved.

The north entry is improved by a street homogenisation and several plantations to manage water, parking are created with a permeable material. We proposed 2 design scenarios on this area. In the center, the lawn is planted with an orchard and a tree to shade the nursery the ground floor. Finally, a pergola is designed to create an attractive signal and a belevedere in the terrace underused.

Today, the square is fragmented by its central farm and disconnected from the hamlet. The aim of the project is to give back its full dimension inside the district by a street treatment in north and several connections inside and in borders. Diagram - Design strategy

Description / Public space Location / Valence Client / Valence Agglomération Year / 2022 Association / reGénération - Be.Urban VRD

Expertise : Furniture design / Heritage / Park / Plant design / Playground / Water management The Polygone Park is an old military field camp transformed in park fifty years ago. Today, it needs an important renovation of its entries, plantations and playgrounds to manage the high attendance. Our concept is based on the military historic to reinvent 3 majors entries and reorganized sports and

playground in function of the park topography. After an analysis of the park organisation, we proposed to use a military vocabulary like stones walls to give an identity to the entries. In the low terrace, the playground is organized as an adventure course in a high density vegetation, in link with a new water management. On the contrary, the intermediary terrace, further away from habitation concentrates sports activities for older generations (soccer, crossfit...)

Overall plan - A continuity of open spaces pacified from car park to shops

The requalification of these spaces is possible thanks to a flow and economic activities comprehension. We proposed to slow the traffic by a road bed in the center unified open spaces around shops and restaurants to create terraces. The carpark is redesigned with permeable surfaces and well planted to re manage water in the surface. Existing trees are preserved and more are planted to increase the «village place» effect.

Expertise : Art Installation / Cycleways / Landscape Master Plan / Reuse design / Riverbank design The ViaRhona is a territorial facility linking Switzerland to the Mediterranean Sea along the Rhone River. This section of 20km is defined by significant contrasts within the Metropolis of Lyon. We worked in 2 scales to manage the territorial issues, first on the entire route, then on specific types of public spaces in link with the atmospheres crossed

The cycle path reveals many atmospheres during its course along the river, and its materiality is, therefore, the result of a fine analysis of the places and the zones of intensities encountered. It is also a question of setting up and characterizing reception areas in the more urban sectors who are caracterise with more public equipments, while the natural and protected sectors are treated with more sober and frugal stops, with views and artistic installations linked to the river.

Through this topic, the site choosen articulated a large scale problematic about the creation of a metropolitan park (2000 ha) and the integration of two important equipments such as an Farm and a Reused area. Our proposition is name « The First Loop ». It’s a process developed on the scale of the urban metabolism of the Grenoble bioregion.

30

It makes the Parc des Boucles de l’Isère exist by allowing the initiation of a global approach aimed at the construction of a bioregional figure emerging on the fringes of cities in the form of a convention. Its main objective is to involve the actors concerned around a common vision in order to reinforce the territorial value of resourceful areas, such as the Parc des Boucles de l’Isère, in their geographical diversity, their contemporary heritage and in their capacity to development in fonction of climate change.

Expertise : Community involvement / Heritage / Landscape Master Plan / Reuse design / Plant strategy The medieval castle site of Saint-Quentin is an emblematic symbol of the valley. Perched on a rocky spur at the bottom of the Vercors Mountain, it over look the Isere river plain. Overhanging by a hamlet who known an important urbanization these last years, the tower’s clearing is an important space for residents and inhabitants, but also a refugee for the biodiversity to preserve and valorise. However, the clearing and the hill endure a dynamic of an enclosure because of the forest surface increasing. According to this context, a mediation work was

done following goals to imagine the future of this heritage place. This study is inscribed in these goals after defining the command with the council to do: - A study of the reopening of an ancient path between the village center and the tower clearing, - A vegetation study to highlight the architectural monuments and planned the plantation of a public orchard graffed by local old varieties with the implication of local primary school students. - Elaborate an illustrated signaletic. This work had been done in relation with an departmental archeologist and realised by a local association of the legacy safe-guarding.

Sullivan Doublet landscape architect (part 2) Expertise : Environmental Analysis / Landscape Master Plan / Urban Design Framework This work began as part of a 9-months work-study program and lead to a mission that I realised as a freelance from July to December 2021. The past documents that represent the territory of Grenoble Alpes Métropole do not allow the specificities to be taken into account. This is why this « Territory Study » offers territorialized and spatialized outlooks that revealing the diversities found in the area, in order to recognize and generate new forms of collaboration and exchange . This approach proposes to produce new perceptions towards the territory, to reinvent the way of seeing and considering what constitutes a landscape, by

focusing on non-human living environments - and not simply on built spaces - which are very present in our modes of occupation. It is through this new approach that a change in outlook can begin to take place. They are at the same time educational, prospective and operational tools in order to give meaning to the many factors that animate these territories, from the formalization of unified landscape figures to the projects themselves. All this production is compiled in a collection known as « Territory Study » in the form of 7 notebooks editated by the metropolis. Workshops with the municipalities were organised around these notebooks in order to help the process and connect with the multi-municipal reflections already in progress.

In this note, the diagnosis is a productive fabric in crisis and a plain which lost its agrarian identity. To maintain a productive vocation, we propose the design of a landscape structure in which the announced projects will be established to integrate them into it. First actions are located along the Gresse River.

F. Guilloux, J. Sauvage, ABC Landscape architect The development of a study focusing on the municipalities of Sallanches and Passy follows the interest aroused by my Masters final project in this same territory. Presentation panels were supposed to make it possible to outline what could be a major restoration project for the Arve River over the next twenty years. These panels are the result of a working session conducted with multidisciplinary group

of professionals following their initial reflections. I participated in this final session in order to give form to the issues confronted and the different visions for the restoration of the valley, the river and the uses at the heart of a territorial project. This work in collaboration with an illustrator gives rise to different representations making it possible to project oneself into the richness found within this river ecosystem of the Arve.
