Engines will roar at the 25th annual Palm Beach Cavallino Classic hosted at The Breakers resort hotel in Palm Beach from Jan. 20-24, 2016. This five-day event for Ferrari enthusiasts begins with the Florida Trophy, a two-day track meet at the Palm Beach International Raceway, when Ferrari owners revive memories of days gone by as they let loose again in a race course setting. Next is the Tour of Palm Beach. Vintage and classic Ferraris leave from The Breakers traveling through Palm Beach on the Atlantic coastal roads with a final pit stop at Jet Aviation for a private jet reception. The high point of the week is the Concorso d’Eleganza on the front lawn of The Breakers resort hotel on Saturday, when immaculate Ferrari automobiles are judged by leading international experts for Class Awards and Major Cups, along with The Cavallino Cup for Best in Show. Crowning the event is the exclusive Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-a-Lago, the legendary Marjorie Merriweather Post mansion in Palm Beach. Here, vintage and classic sporting automobiles are displayed on the lawn as guests vote for their favorites, with awards presented at the charity brunch. REAL ESTATE
THE LUXURY MARKET IS THRIVING The Hamptons is a rare and special place. With miles of pristine white sand beaches, forever views of protected farmland and the sweet aroma of sea air, you can’t help but feel fortunate spending a lazy afternoon in one of the area’s towns, villages or hamlets. Groundbreaking architecture and cutting-edge technology define many of the homes that are built here. Many of these homes feature the latest environmentally sensitive materials and systems. Other homes are historic, built long ago and reminders of life from another era. As the leading second home market in the country, the Hamptons consistently attracts an affluent clientele interested in acquiring significant residential properties. Some of these properties are held for investment, others are used by families, and most experience appreciation over time and represent a compelling store of value. Saunders & Associates transacts business with more investors, developers and builders than any other Hamptons brokerage firm because of our prowess in identifying value that may not be intuitive to others. The offerings include noteworthy settings from the ocean bluffs in Montauk to the wide beaches in Southampton, from the pastoral farm fields of Sagaponack to the tranquil bays along Sag Harbor and from the equestrian areas of Bridgehampton to the peaceful forest trails throughout East Hampton. The Hamptons luxury real estate sales market is robust. In 2014 there were 243 transactions over $5M and the pace of activity in 2015 suggests that it, too, will be another important year in this market. We invite you to contact one of our market savvy agents to assist you in achieving your real estate objectives.

The magic just doesn’t fade. More than five decades since Palm Beach was the site of the Kennedy administration’s “Winter White House” and two decades since America’s royal family sold the compound on North Ocean Avenue, the strains of Camelot come drifting back. Originally purchased in 1933 by Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy and famously known for its role as the winter vacation home of his son John F. Kennedy during his presidency, the 15,347-square-foot Mediterranean Revival style estate designed by Addison Mizner remained in the family for more than 60 years until merchant banker John K. Castle bought it furnished in 1995. The Castles, who sold the house this year for $31 million, held on to the furniture to be sold at auction in Leslie Hindman’s showroom on Jan. 23, 2016. continued on 42

Meticulously restored and preserved, the original furnishings used by the Kennedy clan include decorative objects, cabinets, stools, a few pairs of beds, and several Venetian-themed pieces. “Many historical items will be up for auction,” says Leslie Hindman, CEO of the auction house. “There are Venetian-style twin beds in which the future President actually slept, as well as an amazing mahogany banquet table and chairs.” The catalog will be available a month before the January auction. Built with an all aluminum hull to ensure superior function and stability, noise and vibration are completely eliminated for enhanced comfort at higher speeds. The ship maintains a maximum speed of 24 knots and cruises comfortably at 22 knots at a range of 3,400 miles. PALM BEACH YACHTING THE M/Y PANTHERA REFLECTS THE SOPHISTICATED PERSONALITY OF THE YACHT OWNER IN A STYLE THAT IS COMFORTABLE AND CONTEMPORARY, WITH TIMELESS ELEGANCE.
Sumptuous interiors that are elegantly styled lend an air of glamour and casual sophistication to the Panthera’s four decks which include a lower, main, upper, and a sun deck, where a Jacuzzi, large sun pad and bar area form an intimate place to relax. Guests enter the contemporary main saloon that is outfitted with custom-designed pieces from leading Italian designers layered with bold accent pillows and lamps by Armani Casa. Walls dressed with oversized fashion photography of international models throughout the living areas lend even more panache to this visually inviting space. Located on the forward main deck is the full-beam private master bedroom suite that boasts spectacular views and is outfitted with a king-sized bed, a personal office, walk-in wardrobe and a secluded exterior lounge. A unique covered sky lounge captures nature’s design and is the perfect outdoor place to relax on Tommy M sofas and view a film on a 46-inch-wide TV. This expansive space, also created for entertaining, transforms into a disco when the stars come out with strobe lighting and a state-of-the-art sound system. Palm Beach lifestyle bloggers Beth Aschenbach and Danielle Norcross are sisters who just happen to “love working together.” The best friends and business partners decided to create Palm Beach Lately, the Island’s first lifestyle blog, out of affection for their hometown, and after following the success of lifestyle blogs in New York and other cosmopolitan cities. With vibrant photography and engaging dialogue, the blog speaks to the sisters’ love of fashion, home design, travel and social trends. In addition, their own online shop offers exclusive designs that create modern spins on traditional Palm Beach fashions and housewares. “Timeless classic beauties like Jackie Onassis and Lilly Pulitzer inspired us to lead the way and stand out from the crowd,” Aschenbach says. The native Palm Beachers are also happy to be raising their families here. “The ocean, sunshine and lifestyle are so refreshing and peaceful,” Norcross says. ”We love the small town community of friends and family here.” www.palmbeachlately.com i Photography by Shea Christine Photography

The Spring 2016 collections hit the runways at the fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris. This year, designers at New York Fashion Week set the trends with crisp white and sharp black, shimmering long gowns and brilliant prints. Loads of lace, satin and chiffon reappear in everything from playful and fun pieces that caught the eye in London to the boudoir-influenced and peek-a-boo styles on Milan’s runways. Once again, fashion took its final bow for the spring season in Paris, where collections known for their vibrant femininity highlight delicate fashions in soft pastels and sun-kissed neutrals. i

SPOTLIGHT ON
SHOPPING ISLAND STYLE
Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue and specialty retailers are voted among USA Today’s “10 Best” world-class shopping destinations in the country. TEXT BY KIM MOSLEY PHOTOGRAPHY BY SANDRA THOMPSON
C
Carefree and enchanted, spend extravagantly as the allure of Palm Beach with its European sophistication, inimitable style and unrivaled grace wafts amidst a tropical backdrop ... that’s shopping island style. And don’t think the fabulously wealthy haven’t taken notice. USA Today’s “10 Best” places Palm Beach at the
top of the shopping destinations in the country, second only to Santa Fe, N.M., garnering the spotlight from famed venues in California, New York and more. There may by other exotic locations to do your high-end shopping, but for over a century, nowhere has been more beautiful than the sun-kissed jewel box of boutiques known as Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. With bougainvillea blooming and a slight breeze off the ocean ruffling your shopping bags, stroll along the Avenue’s romantic vias that curve like tendrils from Worth’s proud stem — each one a fantastic amalgam of Venice, Naples and Spain. While along the Avenue itself, shoppers look blithely for expensive and rare items, pamper luxuriously, dine decadently, and gaze excitedly at the latest styles ... Giorgio Armani, Gucci and the new lines from Neiman Marcus and Saks. i

TRADITION ON THE WATER Stunning views, beautiful antiques, and soft creams, blues and champagnes are key to fine Palm Beach living in this Regency style home.
This Regency style Palm Beach home owned by Ambassador Mary Ourisman and her husband Mandell is being placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The couple spends a great deal of time on the columned loggia overlooking the pool. Here, Tuuci umbrellas unfold to provide shade for guests to recline in Michael Taylor chaises.

When U.S. Ambassador Mary M. Ourisman and her husband, Mandell Ourisman, asked interior designers William R. Eubanks and Mitchell Brown, and architect David Gengler to redesign their home in Palm Beach, Fla., they were thrilled to be working with their longtime friends. The team had created the interiors of the couple’s Worth Avenue apartment nearly a decade back, and they are redesigning areas of their house in Washington, DC. “Mary has excellent taste and is so much fun to work with,” Eubanks says. “When we found the Palm Beach home it was in need of renovation, but had terrific bones, great ceiling heights and spaciously commodious rooms. Our task was to update the lovely Clarence Mack-designed Regency style home that has been recently landmarked to 21st-century perfection.” This beautiful 8,000-square-foot house, with another 2,500-square-feet of exterior covered loggia they added, is located on the Intracoastal Waterway overlooking a wonderful, protected bird sanctuary. In homage to the Regency style, the designers and architect chose the classic portico and pediment over Renaissance-style iconic capitals for the center of a three-bay covered loggia. Here, three distinct seating and dining areas create an ideal outdoor living space. “We created a favorite place for everyone,” says Brown, noting how much the Ourismans love to entertain and spend time on the loggia during the winter months.

owners’ leopard-print stool add a touch of romanticism.
Greatly inspired by this serene and stunning setting, the Eubanks team decided to use a color palette of champagne with shades of rock crystal and ocean blues throughout the interior scheme as well. “We wanted a beautiful flowing residence both inside and out,” Eubanks says. “The inspiration for the living room came from the Ambassador herself. Since she is an excellent hostess and loves to entertain, we chose to have three different seating areas here for friends to have intimate conversations ... or all be able to chat together.” In the main social areas, the fabrics are subtle in the chosen hues giving emphasis to the outdoor garden. Modern art and earlier paintings juxtapose with an exquisite 18th-century Chinese Coromandel screen, period antiques and comfortable furnishings to create a casual yet crisp flow, while plantation wood flooring grounds the dining room’s custom table and chairs in tradition. Antique blue and white porcelain adds balance and light to the space.

An oasis of quiet elegance prevails in the master bedroom, where a warm tone-on-tone textile formally covers the king-sized bed, and sophisticated fabrics drape the windows and walls. KINON SURFACE DESIGN INC. ®
Richard Satz, President and Founder

Surface material selection is an essential facet of great interior spaces today. Choosing appropriate and complimentary surface materials is crucial to establishing the comfort and purpose of any space, commercial or residential. No matter the location, the right decorative surface materials have the ability to convert a merely functional surface into the centerpiece of a room. Decorative Surface Materials As natural materials become more rare and expensive, alternatives arise. Machines and printers can duplicate natural surfaces like wood and granite, but the end result is still a concession in quality. However, designers no longer need to sacrifice the richness of natural surfaces for the flexibility and durability of synthetic material. Higher end decorative surface materials are created with deep consideration of color, pattern and texture. These materials can perfectly suit the design and function the space requires. Nowhere are these advantages as abundant as they are with Kinon® Surface Design Inc.

While advances in art and design during the first half of the 20th century reflected a new interest in pop culture and exposed some insightful trends toward consumerism, nothing symbolized New America more than the mid-century acceleration of transportation.
T
The American dream is difficult to describe given the many varying concepts. For most however, it is closely associated with planes, trains, and of course, automobiles. And in a society where what you drive can say a lot about the person behind the wheel, don’t you want to know how car design just may dictate how you experience your life? “Going Places” on view at the Norton Museum through Jan. 3, 2016, traces the development of vehicles, the roadways, railways and airways, and the pull of advertising through eye-catching illustrations. Norton Museum’s exhibition represents the inescapable fact that the transportation culture defines America itself. More than 200 items, including skillfully rendered design drawings, concept sketches, advertising art and posters, along with model trains, planes and automobiles from the Jean S. and Frederic A. Sharf Collection, demonstrate the evolution in the vehicular blueprint and its impact on American culture. For information, call 561/832-5196 or visit www.norton.org. i

JUDY SWERLICK CUSTOM PORTRAITS PLUS! JUDY SWERLICK’S PASSION IS PAINTING PEOPLE, and she would love to capture, in acrylic or watercolor paint, the important people in your life and special events, such as WEDDINGS, BIRTHS and VACATIONS, as well as your favorite pets or landscapes. Judy will paint from your beloved photographs or, if you are located in South Florida, she will be happy to come to you to photograph the subject you would like painted. Judy is a professional, exhibiting artist with a BS and MS degree in art. Please take time to enjoy her artwork and the testimonials written by her excited clients on the links below. - Advertorial

I still say that a year later. The essence of Sophia

was captured, frozen in time and will always have a place on the wall in our home. Thank you, Judy.
Manuel J Motin for “Tribute to Sharon”
Sharon’s portrait captures her so well, so naturally, and realistically, I feel an immediate connection to her. It is amazing how Judy was able to create the resemblance to her face, transmitting her special personality and spirit, creating this very fine piece of art.
David Anderson for “Remembering a Special Young Man”
Judy Swerlick is an amazing and wonderful person who expresses herself beautifully through her art. I have admired her work for many years and am proud to say that I now own three of her works. Each one is displayed in a place of honor in my home. The one that is most treasured is the portrait of my son, Michael. Judy was able to do so much more than recreate a photograph – she gave it life.
Jody Johnstone for “London in the 50’s”
Judy turned a small family snapshot into a beautiful sepia portrait that captures a special, joyful childhood moment. Her “London in the Fifties” shows my husband at age 4, feeding pigeons at Trafalgar Square. I particularly like the portrait’s composition and the way Judy captured the scene from the child’s perspective— from the ground up, with the birds taking center stage. During her work on this piece, Judy kept in touch with us to share ideas and confirm details. We found Judy to be professional, responsive, and lovely to work with at every stage in the process, and we recommend her highly.

Set in 22 acres of virgin woods of pine and cedar at 8,250 feet above sea level, this 85-room Oberoi resort, Wildflower Hall, Shimla in the Himalayas, combines the charm and beauty indigenous to the region. Built with the most exacting international standards on the grounds where Lord Kitchener’s summer home once stood, this tranquil retreat reflects its gracious past. Step inside, where the interiors of the resort are luxurious and inviting with Burmese teak paneling, fireplaces, artwork and polished parquet flooring that exude Old World charm. With breathtaking views of a magnificent sunrise over the snow-capped mountaintops of the Greater Himalayas or the sunset over towering cedar trees, guest rooms and suites celebrate Shimla’s rich colonial heritage. The walls are adorned with watercolors of local fruit and flowers, while hand-carved, king-sized beds, richly cushioned ottomans and plush, hand-woven area rugs furnish the rooms. continued on 132

LE BAZAAR A LUXURY SALON WITH A CHIC BOHEMIAN TWIST….
LE BAZAAR IS MORE THAN A SALON. IT IS A CULTURE. It is the art of design. Offering luxury services orchestrated by stylists in a unique, comfortable yet sophisticated environment, Dris and Bernard founders of Le Bazaar, along with their international team of 20, now enter their third year taking excellent care of their elite clientele in both Palm Beach and New York. There are no product advertisements displayed or tabloid magazines to read. Instead, what you will find at Le Bazaar is an explosion of style, art and culture. Clients enjoy an eclectic collection of music and books of all genres collected by them on their various trips around the world. Le Bazaar offers each guest a complimentary consultation for all beauty services. Including, services at their Beauty Bar, which features a premier product collection of pure, eco-friendly, sustainable brands such as Tata Harper and Daviness.

I sat down with Dris and Bernard, pioneers in the beauty industry for over 15 years, to learn more about what drives them, their vision in creating the salon, and their diverse clientele from politicians, celebrities, models, socialites, authors, etc…
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO CREATE LE BAZAAR IN PALM BEACH? We were bored with the traditional salon. We wanted to work in an environment that does not feel like work. There is no better feeling than to feel at home while you are working. For us it’s essential to work in a creative environment and we designed the salon to inspire creativity.
Vice President Joe Biden, Dris and Dr. Jill Biden
I’ll give you an example, on a very busy day there is nothing better than playing some good reggae music in the salon, clients love it and it gives a chill vibe! WHAT DRIVES YOU?
Dris - Exploring new countries and their culture, just came back from a fabulous trip in Kenya where I spent two weeks with a Massai tribe.
Bernard - Living life to its fullest. WHAT’S NEXT? We are working intensely on our new eco- friendly product line and a second salon opening in NYC, very excited. WHAT FASHION SHOULD BE?
Dris - Good taste, and never just following the crowd. SPECIAL ADVERTORIAL SECTION
Bernard - Effortless FAVORITE SPOT IN PALM BEACH?
Dris - The Brazilian Court hotel – to enjoy lunch at Café Boulud, gorgeous and quiet. Buccan for dinner, love their concept.
Bernard - Imoto and the North End beach. YOUR LAST OUT OF THE ORDINARY EXPERIENCE:

The Breakers, the Island’s legendary oceanfront luxury resort set amid an Italian-Renaissance backdrop, will host the Nov. 22, 2015 nuptials of stunning Colombian TV star Sofia Vergara and
Magic Mike XXL’s hunky Joe Manganiello. The impossibly handsome pair have been seen around town enjoying their newly engaged status, while excitedly planning their elegant Palm Beach wedding that will include about 400 guests. The actress debuted her magnificent center stone engagement ring recently at the 2015 SAG Awards, a massive bauble that nearly outshone her fire-engine red gown. Engaged in Hawaii after a whirlwind courtship of just six months, The Modern
Family actress and the True Blood alum chose to wed in the private, idyllic 140acre Palm Beach setting, far from the glitz of Hollywood. Vergara, one of Forbes top ten highest paid TV actresses, often visits family in South Florida and feels right at home in Palm Beach. www.breakers.com i
