A PILOT ’S WATCH SHOU LD EN DU R E EVERY THING TH E PILOT DOE S . The Bremont MB range is built in collaboration with British firm Martin-Baker, the pioneers of the ejection seat. At their test centre, the watches are strapped to the wrist of a crashtest dummy and shot out of the cockpit. Enduring forces of between 12G and 30G in the process. But this doesn’t mean the MB is built for endurance at the expense of performance. It’s a beautifully-engineered mechanical chronometer certified 99.998% accurate by COSC.

and is the first to be a naturalized citizen of the United States. When asked what her role would be as First Lady, Trump revealed that she sees herself in more of a traditional role, like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy. She has chosen a platform where she will fight for children at risk from any form of bullying, and has expressed intolerance for any child to be mocked or bullied on the playground or by a nameless person hiding behind the Internet. In an empowering campaign speech, Melania also conveyed a deep concern for America’s youth to be taught kindness, respect and compassion. Melania, who divides her time between Trump Tower in New York, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach and Washington, D.C., is building her staff and enthusiastically embracing the role of First Lady. i

THERE IS TRULY NOTHING AS SPECTACULAR AS A COUTURE GOWN. ON THE RUNWAYS OF PARIS FASHION Week Haute Couture, the Spring/Summer 2017 collections met the onset of the season with glamour. Subdued in some ways, rich and lush in others, this season’s look is all about hyper-femininity as designer collections came to the fore in a masterful mix of minimalism and sensuality. Glamorous silhouettes were swathed in silk, satin, organza and taffetas with deep and square-cut necklines that plunge to the waist. Eye-catching fashions took turns being enveloped in floor-skimming mirrored embroidery and sequin-embellished strips that capture a festive mood. i

As a successful interior designer of her own luxury home decor brand, Stephanie Kantis had enjoyed a successul career for nearly two decades. But 2010 brought a pivotal point in her career. Seeking to recharge her creative energies, she and her husband set out for the tiny mountain village of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she lived for two years learning to sculpt and craft with bronze. Kantis later turned that skill into a lucrative jewelry design business, and in 2011, the Stephanie Kantis jewelry brand debuted in Neiman Marcus stores. Today, from her design studio based in Palm Beach, Kantis oversees her expanding line that is handcrafted by artisans in Mexico. Her designs, featuring semi-precious gems in bronze, plated in gold or silver, are available in nearly one hundred locations nationwide. i

eave it to Palm Beach. And leave it to its successful, knowledgeable and adventurous

residents who, since the early 1900s, have blended Mediterranean elegance with the new and cutting-edge, both in the last century and now in this. That is just the combination seamlessly forged for her clients by interior designer Angela Giguere-Kumble. The trust between the couple and the designer had been established earlier when Giguere-Kumble styled a few rooms in their residence in one of New York’s most soughtafter buildings. The couple sold their chateau in France while still retaining a stateside country estate, and now they wanted their new 6,600-square-foot Palm Beach residence to be a showplace for an extensive collection of art and to reflect their continued appreciation of architectural authenticity. Situated on Lake Worth and designed in 1930 by Maurice Fatio, who famously designed homes for several Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, Huttons, as well as the Brazilian Court Hotel, this home retains most of the

sofas and lounge chairs from Elle W Collection secure the bay window in the living room. In another seating area, walnut-trimmed club chairs from John Salibello sit sentinel beneath artist Anselm Kiefer’s megalithic work. Across the room, a 1940s French, mirrored fireplace, a Robert Longo work above and Martin Kline’s golden creation to its side dazzle the eye.

exterior elaborations including fluted columnar carvings and iron stars surrounding window and loggia apertures. Yet it is inside, where Art Deco meets art of the most contemporary design. Greeting guests in the front foyer is large-scale nude by sculptor Artistide Maillol, whose life spans the early periods of Impressionism until after the Second World War. The sculpture is flanked by a large figurative work by British artist Jenny Saville above a glass console that was purchased from Christie’s. Across the marble inlaid

space, a piece by visual artist Shirazeh Houshiary decorates the wall, while Sean Scully’s gold and black artwork draws the eye beyond the shimmering stairway. In the living room, where concerts are frequent when the owners entertain guests throughout the Palm Beach season, art, decor and design play off one another. Even as the lake scatters striae of blue along the walls, ebony circles dart from below in a carpet from Stark. Art wraps the walls, while the organic white floor sculptures by Tony Cragg found an easy home by the living room bay window. Central to activities, the inner loggia is indeed a place for relaxation. Here, an unusual acrylic game table and lacquered chairs by artist Jean-Claude Farhi provide the perfect spot for tabletop fun. With views across the sculpture garden and lake, the social space is intimate and bright, elegant and relaxed. In the dining room, blue is given free rein. Artist Sean Scully provides squares to balance Martin Kline’s circular blue sculpture reflected in the sliding mirrored door that leads to the indoor loggia. In a

starburst of circular ribs, Stark’s sapphire carpet resonates with the royal blues of Romo’s tropically covered chairs that line dual beveled-glass and acrylic tables that offer seating for 12. “Given my clients’ penchant for entertaining, I designed enlarged ‘toppers’ that can be placed on each table, expanding the serving surfaces to accommodate a dinner party for 24,” the designer says. Just beyond, the outdoor loggia is a place for viewing the sculpture garden tucked between wings of the house, or simply a place to watch the sun and stars play with ripples on the lake. Giguere-Kumble styled draperies from Sunbrella fabric to shield from the sun, but it took a cached, automated screen across the waterfront side of the loggia to protect from overly aggressive breezes. After an early morning swim and stepping onto a warm pool surround of Jerusalem stone, Knoll’s chaises allow for dramatic surveys of the rising sun. Above the outdoor loggia, one of two large master suites has its own expansive balcony for the ultimate in rest and relaxation. This is Palm Beach where lake and ocean breezes are welcome … and where elegant Palladian arches are reminiscent of yesteryear. One can imagine a dance band that mingles well-heeled guests who hold fragrant cocktails on soft summer nights. Even now as breezes sway, the waft of by-gone times smells as sweet as frangipani.
