HOLLYWOOD-Sam Smith has put his Twitter account on hold, after a flurry of responses regarding his acceptance speech for his Oscar™ win for Best Song (“Writing’s on the Wall” from the James Bond movie Spectre). Smith tweeted on Wednesday: “I’m logging off for a while. Some Martinis shaken not stirred are definitely in order.” Accepting the award, Smith said: “I read an article a few months ago by Ian McKellen, and he said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar.™ And if this is the case, even if it isn’t the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world.” Gay Oscar™ winner Dustin Lance Black (2009 Best Original Screenplay winner for the movie Milk) was quick to respond online. “Hey @SamSmithWorld, if you have no idea who I am, it may be time to stop texting my fiance,” referring to British diver Tom Daley. The tweet also included video of Black accepting his Oscar.™ Blindsided, Smith responded: “Second openly gay man to win an Oscar™ or third or fourth or 100th, it wasn’t my point,” Smith

Florida widow in same-sex marriage suit finally gets benefits from Social Security
FORT MYERS--Arlene Goldberg, the lesbian widow denied her late wife’s Social Security when the state of Florida refused to recognize their New York marriage, will finally begin to receive survivor’s benefits, according to the ACLU. “I’m very happy. I feel like I’m fulfilled, thanks to the ACLU, of course — their hard work and perseverance,” said Goldberg. “This is the beginning for other folks like me. I have friends whose partners died, just like Carol did, and they’re waiting now. Florida doesn’t have its act together in passing the information [to Social Security]. This will pressure them into giving other folks what they deserve.”
SCHOOL REVERSES RULING ON ANTI-GAY STICKERS
INDIO, CA (AP) - Students who placed anti-gay stickers on their identification badges at a Southern California high school have been asked to leave them at home. This is a complete about-face from the school’s earlier ruling that gave students the right to wear the symbols, just as others can sport insignia supporting gay rights, administrators said. Both symbols were allowed as a matter of free speech, as long as they didn’t cause a disruption at Shadow Hills High School.
UN AMBASSADOR FROM US TAKES 17 OTHER AMBASSADORS TO GAY PLAY NEW YORK-- Over 70 countries have anti-gay laws which is one reason why Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, decided to take 17 U.N. ambassadors to the theater Tuesday night to see the Tony Award-winning play “Fun Home” whose main character is a lesbian with a closeted gay dad. Power, a strong advocate for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals, got a standing ovation at the end of the play, led by Tony nominee Beth Malone who thanked her and President Barack Obama for doing “so much for LGBT rights.”
South Dakota’s Governor Veto’s Anti Transgender Bill

PIERRE, SD (AP) - South Dakota’s governor vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have made it the first state in the U.S. to approve a law requiring transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that match their sex at birth. The American Civil Liberties Union, the Human Rights Campaign and transgender students and adults called the legislation discriminatory.

TALLAHASSEE--With overwhelming bipartisan support, today the Florida House passed SB 242, also known as IDEA (“Miami-Dade Infectious Disease Elimination Act”). SB 242 had passed the Senate in a 37-2 vote last week, and Rep. Katie Edwards, House sponsor of companion bill, HB 81, brought the Senate version to the floor for its successful vote today.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah’s GOPcontrolled Senate rejected a proposal to beef up the state’s hate crimes law and add protections for gay and transgender people on Wednesday. The measure from Republican Sen. Steve Urquhart called for heavier punishments in crimes motivated by factors such as a victim’s race, gender and religion. It failed by six votes in the 29-member Senate.

Super Tuesday Message: LGBT equality “at stake” BY RICHARD HACK
March 03, 2016
12
With the final results from Super Tuesday primary voting now edged in the history books, it is fast becoming clear that this year’s Presidential election will be a battle to the finish line between Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and Republican front-runner Donald Trump. Should that prove to be true, it is likely going to be a reality check for LGBT equality with many of our hard-won gains on the line. While initially appearing to be an all-inclusive candidate, Donald Trump, in recent weeks, has recanted much of his support for LGBT equality. In what was something of a shocking U-turn in regard to same-sex marriage, Trump is said to be now reconsidering the subject.
Last summer, Trump issued a blanket statement on the subject of same-sex marriage saying, “Some people have hopes of passing amendments, but it’s not going to happen… Anybody that’s making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it.” A few weeks ago on Fox News, however, Trump seemed to be picking up on a plan extolled by Marco Rubio, who had earlier pledged to appoint ultra conservative judges to the Supreme Court and demand a relook at the issue. On Fox News, Trump said the following regarding samesex marriage: “It has been ruled upon, it has been there. [But] if I’m elected I would be very strong in putting certain judges on the bench that maybe could
change things. “At some point they have to get back down to business, but there’s no question about it, I wish it was done by the state.” Speaking to David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network in mid-February, Trump said that he could be “trusted” to overturn the ruling. It was an interesting side-step by the ever-elastic contender who had been pegged by Log Cabin Republicans as “one of the best, if not the best, pro-gay Republican candidates to ever run for the presidency.” The endorsement was a surprise for Trump who responded, “I have not heard that at all… I think [evangelicals] can trust me on traditional marriage. “Frankly it should have been
state – I was very much in favor of having the court rule that it goes to states, and let the states decide. “It was a shocking decision for you and for me and for a lot of people. I was in favor of letting the states decide and that’s the way it looked like it was going, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere came this very massive decision and they took it away. “I was always in favor of states rights, states deciding – on many issues, not just this.” Following Super Tuesday’s results, the Human Rights Campaign has warned that LGBT rights will be in play for an eventual showdown between the two. HRC President Chad Griffin said: “In the biggest show-

THE AGENDA INTERVIEW
/floridaagenda
BAPTISTE:Who was your inspiration for becoming a gay activist? DRUCKER: My first partner, Jerry. Jerry died of full-blown AIDS in 1991, at the age of 31. And I, like many people who were directly impacted by the epidemic in its early stages, had always felt that gays were treated as second-class citizens by the government. Had AIDS been an epidemic that mainly targeted middle-aged white men who played golf, I believe the government’s reaction would have been very different!
IRWIN DRUCKER:
A NEVER ENDING LOVE FOR EQUALITY

Irwin Drucker has an overwhelming passion for the LGBT community that just won’t quit. Since the late 1980s, Drucker has been advocating for equality and gay rights, after first compelled to fight for inclusive at his former employer, IBM. Drucker’s journey to advocacy and the work that he does for the betterment of our community is an inspiration to future advocates.

BAPTISTE: When did you first start advocating for gay rights? DRUCKER: In 1989, when I was employed at IBM. IBM had recently acquired Lotus, which offered same-sex domestic partner benefits to its employees. So the question became did IBM extend that benefit to all its employees, or take it away from the Lotus employees. I had already come out to my co-workers and managers, and was asked to become a member of a small working group that eventually convinced the company leadership to implement worldwide domestic partner benefits at the start of 1997. And I’ve been consistently involved ever since. BAPTISTE: Who are your LGBT heroes? DRUCKER: Well, the easy answer would be Harvey Milk. And he is one of my LGBT heroes. But the heroes I really admire are the ones who stand up and fight in times or places where being out and gay isn’t that easy. And I don’t even know their names. But they are the ones who inspire me to keep doing what I do. The transgender teen in Harlem. The gay boy growing up in rural South Carolina. The lesbian in rural Texas. They are still the victims of social ostracism. Some are disowned by their families and thrown out into the street. Others are bullied every day at school, while principals turn a blind eye. And yet they go on. And they fight. And sometimes they die. They are my heroes! BAPTISTE: What do you think is the next battle for our community after our win for Marriage Equality? DRUCKER: I think the next critical battle will be for Economic Equality. I serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and so I see first hand
how many amazing small and medium sized LGBT-owned businesses there are in America. And yet, most of them are under-represented in terms of participation in the global supply chains of major corporations. In addition, at the micro level, in more than 30 states, it is still completely legal for an employer to fire an employee simply because that employee is LGBT. Or for a landlord to refuse to rent someone an apartment for the same reason. The list goes on and on. Until Title VII of the US Civil Rights Act of 1964 is amended to include LGBT, or until some other comprehensive antidiscrimination law is passed, we will still be fighting for full equality. BAPTISTE: How do you feel about Marriage Equality being wiped from the law if a Republican becomes President? DRUCKER: If such a thing were to happen, I would be outraged. And although we are certainly hearing a lot of rhetoric to that effect by the lunatic fringe (read: the current Republican Presidential contenders), I don’t think it’s likely to happen. All of the recent polls show that greater than 55% of Americans are in support of Marriage Equality at this time. BAPTISTE: Do you believe that a Republican controlled White House and Congress can overturn Marriage Equality? DRUCKER: Unless I’m mistaken, now that the Supreme Court has ruled that marriage equality is a civil right and any law depriving citizens of that right in unconstitutional, I believe that only the Supreme Court can strike it down. And that would require another case being brought before the court, and the Justices deciding that they were wrong in Obergefell v Hodges. I doubt this will happen. Look at Roe v Wade. In 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that a woman has a constitutional right to chose with regard to termination of an unwanted pregnancy. There have been many attempts by the right to bring a case forward to the court in an attempt to get a reversal, and none have met with success. And with the recent death of Valdemort (read: Justice Antonin Scalia) I think an effort to overturn Obergefell v Hodges would be extremely difficult. BAPTISTE: How do you respond to the current Florida HIV/AIDS statistics? DRUCKER: I think it’s tragic that the rate

BAPTISTE: How do you feel about our up and coming LGBT youth? DRUCKER: That’s actually an interesting question. I have mixed feelings, to be honest. On the plus side, I think it’s great that their generation, in general, doesn’t put labels on people’s sexuality. We all know that human sexuality is a spectrum, and each of us falls somewhere on that spectrum, from exclusively gay or lesbian, to bisexual/pansexual, to exclusively heterosexual. Today’s youth feel much more comfortable about exploring where they fit in, openly and honestly, without the need for labeling themselves. And therefore, they also tend to not be judgmental of their peers and the decisions they make. And I think that’s great. However, on the down side, I think that because they didn’t have to fight for their place in society, the way my peers and I (members of the “Stonewall Generation”) did, they lose sight of the fact things weren’t always as open and easy for us as they are for them. They take their rights for granted, and don’t realize how much we still need to fight for.

BAPTISTE: What are your feelings on Truvada? DRUCKER: I assume you mean using Truvada as PREP when you ask this question, and I think it’s awesome. I know there are some in the HIV prevention community who think that condoms are the only appropriate choice in prevention, and even call attention to the fact that Truvada doesn’t prevent the spread of other STDs. While that is undeniably true, I don’t think using condoms does either. And here’s why. When was the last time you gave or received oral sex with a condom? All of those other STDs are spread via oral sex and well as anal sex. Therefore, they are still being spread throughout the community. Given that fact, I think people should be free to choose between condoms and PREP without being stigmatized (there’s that word again) by being called a Truvada Whore!!
/floridaagenda
BAPTISTE: What do you think we can do as a community to lower our rate of HIV/AIDS infection? DRUCKER: I think the thing we most need to do is to de-stigmatize HIV. I think the reason most people either don’t want to know their status, or chose to not disclose their status, is that there is still a great deal of stigma associated with being HIV positive. Just go on Grindr and the first thing you notice are all of the references to people being “clean”. Are HIV positive people dirty? OF COURSE NOT! But that’s the message we are sending when we don’t stand up and be inclusive of our HIV positive brothers and sisters, and not continue to treat them as pariahs.
prevent us from achieving our maximum potential. The first is egotism. We have to remember that we are a community and as a community we have to work together as a team. That means that sometimes you have to do something someone else’s way. Unfortunately, there are some who think their way is the only way, and in so doing, either intentionally or unintentionally erect roadblocks to our collective success. They lose sight of the bigger picture in their egotistical desire to do things their way. The second is insularity. Collectively, we are known as the LGBT community … but how many of us, myself included, really actively participate fully with all aspects of our community? And add to that the other racial and cultural differences in a community as rich as ours, and you begin to see that there are lots of threads, but they don’t always weave together. I have to give a big shout out to The Pride Center for doing a great job of creating programs and events that target all of the various elements …. now we have to figure out how to bring the threads together as one.

of new infections in Broward and Miami-Dade counties are the two highest in the country. There are a great deal of root causes behind these sad numbers. But the bottom line is that people have to get tested, know their status, share their status with their sex partners openly and honestly, and engage in safer sex practices. Period.

OSCARS™ ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE
Host Chris Rock had the most obvious gripe, as a black man and an actor. “Well, I am here at the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the White People Choice Awards,” he said to the surprise of no one. Pointing to the lack of nominations for black actors, Rock said, “If they nominated hosts, I wouldn’t even get this job…..Is Hollywood racist? You are damn right HollyBy wood’s racRichard ist. Hollywood Hack is sorority racist. But things are changing.” Of course, not fast enough. Best Actor winner Leonardo diCaprio brought attention to environmental discrimination as he accepted his award for Revenant. “Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It 16

n many ways, the Oscar™ Awards, that much maligned entanglement of a Hollywood long out of step with the times, proved itself to be more current than ever last Sunday night as the 88th annual Academy Awards show unspooled live on ABC. Nearly every winner had a complaint, and a hoped-for solution to the discrimination they felt touched them personally through their work or art.

is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work together and stop procrastinating. Do not take the planet for granted.” No mention of the Republican congress who isn’t convinced that the earth is dying. The LGBT community got its moment to shine when Best Song winner Sam Smith took his time in the spotlight to incorrectly label himself the first openly gay person to win an Oscar™. He was preceded by at least 13 others, but who’s counting? Their wins have not slowed the discrimination gays face around the world on a daily basis, particularly in some areas of the United States. “I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world. I stand here tonight as a proud gay man. I hope we can stand all together as equals one day.” The applause that greeted his wish suggests that the concept is an easier sell in Hollywood than in other places in this country. Discrimination against women was on stage in the form of Paki-
stani activist Sharmeen ObaidChinoy who won the Oscar™ for the Best Documentary Short. Her film A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness told of the horror of honor killings. She lauded the “brave men” and others who encourage women to study and progress in life. She pledged to continue to speak up even when it placed her life in danger in her homeland. Mark Rylance, who won for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Bridges of Spies, harkened back to the diversity issue that had marred the Academy since nominations were announced last month. “I think African-American actors are in a stronger position now thanks a lot to what Chris Rock has done tonight and what the activists who have been raising the issue around this awards ceremony have said.” Amen. Even the Best Picture winner, Spotlight, was shrouded in the stain of discrimination and controversy. The film followed the true story of the Boston Globe’s investigative reporting of the Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal and its coverup. “This film gave a voice to the survi-
vors,” producer Michael Sugar said, “and the Oscar™ amplifies that voice which we hope will become a choir that will resonate all the way to the Vatican.” Each point well taken; each form of bigotry real; each advocate for change a cog in the movement toward equality for all. The Oscar™ Awards never felt so current, illustrated the need for change more poignantly, or spoke louder to the fact that we are all responsible for the solution.

DR. DURRELL’S SPIRITUAL PRESCRIPTIONS
your religious right to do so, and then say those who resent being condemned are intolerant of your religion! Religion is about how YOU relate to the God of YOUR understanding; it is not about YOU deciding who is unworthy of dignity and respect. Yes, gays will no longer tolerate being bullied. Yes, gays will insist they are fully human and deserve equal rights. Yes, gays will call out homophobia and bigotry no matter how much one insists that such hatefulness is faith-based. No one wants to deny anyone their religious experience; we simply deny that any religious experience is a good enough excuse to oppress the LBGT community. Finally, those who swing religion like a club will say, “We hate the sin but we love the sinner.” I don’t consider being called a sinner terribly loving, but also, that phrase is ridiculously misused. “Hate the sin, not the sinner” or “hate the sin, love the sinner” are derivatives of something Gandhi said. He was referring to the “sin” of colonization. Gandhi, in his non-violent way, was telling people to hate oppression without hating the oppressor. The Religious Right has stolen that phrase to justify their prejudices, cheapening their own religion and dishonoring Gandhi’s intent at the same time. The truth is, fundamentalists don’t wage war on every “sin” but have a couple of hot topics they focus on and when called out on it, then refer to that old, tired, trite, misunderstood sound bite to justify their prejudices. I suppose in response to their hateful, myopic attacks on the LBGT community, we should hate their sin of homophobia without hating the self-righteous perpetrators of that sin, but even without hating them, we must resist their attempts to marginalize us.

Religious people do not have to welcome LBGT folk into their congregations (decency would demand that they do so, but no law requires it). Religious people are free to even teach their children to hate LBGT people (again, decency is trampled upon in such a case, but not the constitution). Both freedom of religion and freedom of expression entitle one to be a jerk, but those freedoms do not extend to denying LBGT people full citizenship and full equality. Now, in response to the Queer community demanding full and equal citizenship, the far Right will accuse us of being “intolerant.” What a bizarre argument! If we do not thank them for their intolerance, then we are intolerant of their intolerance, which, they insist, makes us intolerant. That would be, by the way, a prime example of nonsense. You can’t condemn people and say that is

He just gives it to you, flowing, straight-forward, with that gesticulated energy and raspy-voiced passion. He coined his own slogan: “Together.” All Human had to do was splice in a few cogent images and a bit of a soundtrack. Brilliant. Job extremely well done. Off to the BY bar. LINDA Here’s what PENTZ Sanders says in the ad: “Our job is not to divide. Our job is to bring people together. If we do not allow them to divide us up by race, by sexual orientation, by gender — by not allowing them to divide us up by whether or not we were born in America, or whether we’re immigrants — when we stand together, as white and black and hispanic and gay and straight and woman and man — when we stand together, and demand that this country works for all of us,
rather than the few, we will transform America and that is what this campaign is about; it’s bringing people together.” Now breathe. Manny Pacquiao BY D’ANNE WITOWSKI

Let’s pretend that it’s your job to get punched in the head over and over and over again by muscular men who train for hours every day with the specific goal of hitting you harder. Granted, you also hit these men in the head, but that doesn’t change the fact that getting punched is your job. And you do this for years. It might not surprise the people around you if, after awhile, you started saying really stupid shit. Which leads us to professional boxer and Philippine Senate candidate Manny Pacquiao. Earlier this month during a debate televised by Filipino station TV5, Pacquiao, who is running for Senate, and the other candidates were asked about their views on same-sex marriage, which is illegal in the Philippines. Pacquiao’s answer was clearly the result of being punched in the head too many times. “It’s just common sense,” he said. “Do you see animals mating with the same sex? If you have male-to-male or female-to-female (relationships), then people are worse than animals.” Later he posted a Bible verse about putting gays to death on his Instagram account. Well, not the first time
LGBT people have been compared to animals. And not the first time someone has pointed to non-human species for evidence that being a homo is unnatural. It is not, as Pacquiao claims, “common sense.” What is common, however, is the well-documented instances of animals other than humans getting, as scientists put it, “gay up in this bitch.” Pacquiao might want to add Bruce Bagemihl’s 1999 book “Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity” to his reading list (that is, if he can still read after being used as a human punching bag for years). Bagemihl includes a multitude of examples of same-sex pairings across many species. Pacquiao faced some pretty steep consequences for his “worse than animals” comment. Nike dropped him. He also lost his nuts. Or, more specifically, Wonderful Pistachios quickly distanced themselves from Pacquiao even though he was in a TV ad for them in 2012. He was also punched in the head (figuratively) by actor, pro wrestler and human brick wall Dave Bautista, who called Pacquiao a “fucking idiot.” “My mom happens to be a lesbian so I don’t fucking take that shit,” Bautista told TMZ Sports. “I don’t think it’s
funny ... If anyone called my mother an animal I’d stick my foot in his ass.” Asked if an apology from Pacquiao would help, Bautista said no. “You can’t come back from that, man. There’s no coming back from that.” “I still look up to him as a fighter,” Bautista said. “But as far as his opinions, he can stick that shit up his ass.” Pacquiao did apologize, for what it’s worth. And it’s not worth much. He posted an apology on social media. “Please forgive me for those who I’ve hurt,” he said. “But this does not change my position against same-sex marriage. That’s what I believe. My only mistake is comparing gay people to animals.” Does Pacquiao have a right to his own opinion? Of course he does. But he doesn’t have a right to his own facts. The comparison of gay and lesbian people to animals isn’t just offensive because it’s crude, it’s offensive because the “homosexuality isn’t found in nature, so being gay is just a sick choice” argument is 100 percent bullshit. This idea that people could just as easily choose to be heterosexual if they weren’t so hot for pervert sex has led to so much unnecessary harm for LGBT people. So I’m with Bautista about where Pacquiao can go stick his apology. nn

OPINION
In February 2016, Pacquiao, in a video statement posted by TV5, made a comment on the issue of same-sex marriage. He described people in same-sex civil marriages as behaving worse than animals because animals generally do not have same-sex mating. Pacquiao later apologized and stated that while, as a Christian, he is still against same-sex marriage, which is against Biblical teachings, he did not condemn Gay people themselves, saying that he loves them all and is praying for them. Nike ended their longtime partnership with Pacquiao stating his comments against gay people were abhorrent. After being dropped by Nike, Pacquiao uploaded a photograph of himself and his wife onto Instagram, alongside Biblical verses relating to homosexuality, including Leviticus 20:13 which prescribes death as a punishment for male homosexual acts. He deleted the post two hours later.

tax dollars are being appropriated for special projects behind closed doors. Every Legislative Session, Florida TaxWatch holds lawmakers accountable by bringing attention to these member projects through the release of our annual Budget Turkey Report. Florida TaxWatch’s “Budget Turkey” label is not a judgment of a project’s worthiness nor does it target specific members, but rather follows a strictly defined set of criteria, as follows: A project that circumvents established review and selection processes, such as a low-priority project funded ahead of high-priority projects; An appropriation that is inserted in the budget during the conference committee process and did not appear in either the Senate or House final budget; or An appropriation from an inappropriate trust fund; a duplicative appropriation; or an appropriation contingent on legislation that did not pass. In the interest of transparency, Florida TaxWatch delivered each lawmaker a letter at the beginning of session explaining these criteria so that they understand what exactly we will be looking for when we craft our list for this Legislative Session. Our goal with this report is to encourage legislators to give every appropriation the scrutiny and deliberation that our hard-working taxpayers deserve. Please visit our website – www.floridataxwatch.org – to sign up for our updates and learn more about what we are doing to make sure lawmakers remember every day to put you and your fellow taxpayers first in their minds and in their decisions. While most Floridians are working and going to school this week, elected officials in Tallahassee are considering how to spend an eye-popping $80 billion of your hard-earned tax money. That’s nearly $4,000 for every adult and child in the Sunshine State. Too few Floridians have the time to keep an eye on Tallahassee to make sure lawmakers are making prudent decisions with your money. That’s why Florida TaxWatch – the state’s premier independent government watchdog group – is on the job. It is part of our mission to ensure that your money is invested wisely in schools, transportation and many other areas while protecting the public’s right to know. Lawmakers are finalizing their spending plans for the 2016-17 fiscal year. It seems likely that spending on education will be higher than ever and that other critical investments will be made as well. Lawmakers often add funding for projects in their home district into the budget. Such funding for local projects does have a place in the state budget; however spending with statewide impact should be the priority. When the Legislature decides state money should be used locally, Floridians deserve to have these decisions scrutinized and prioritized. Unfortunately, in the last days of the budget process, the budget is often stuffed with member projects, some that were never discussed or debated in public. Once the stuffed budget reaches the floor to be voted on, lawmakers cannot vote on individual projects or offer amendments, but only vote up or down on the whole budget. These “budget turkeys” skirt the budgeting process, diminishing transparency and accountability. Florida’s hard-working taxpayers have the right to know when their

Improving Your Sex Life with the P-Shot
n
March 03, 2016
30
I hope that everyone is starting the new year in good health and that you’re all setting positive goals for the year to come! This is the time of year when we are all thinking of ways to improve our health, our body, and our sex life. Enhanced sexual function is something that many people try to achieve through medication; By but, there is Dr. Ferdinard another way Cabrera to improve your sex life that doesn’t involve taking pills every day. The procedure I’m talking about is called the P-Shot. Like every PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment, we use your own blood to enhance blood flow to the penis and create a significant improve-
ment in your sexual function. The process involves using a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your blood, treating it with calcium, and injecting it into the penis in 5 different locations. I know what you’re thinking, “that sounds painful!”; but, in fact, the process itself is painless and you will start seeing the results in just a few weeks. Even better than that, the results last between 12 and 18 months. You also don’t have to be concerned about side effects from PRP injections because it is just a refined form of your own blood. There are other procedures that inject silicone. Unfortunately, the cost of those procedures is high and they don’t improve erectile function. Now, you’re probably asking yourself whether or not this is the procedure for you. No matter your age, the proce-
dure can significantly improve your sexual function. Especially, if you’re struggling with erectile dysfunction or impotence caused by diabetes or certain medications; like anti-depressants and other psychotropic drugs, and blood pressure medications. It is also an effective treatment for Peyronie’s disease, which is a curvature of the penis caused by scar tissue that affects 3-4% of men. If you’re wondering how safe this treatment is, consider that PRP has been used in several different medical fields, such as cosmetic surgery, dentistry, sports medicine and pain management for almost 30 years. The medical applications for PRP treatments continue to grow year after year. In the next article, we’ll discuss how PRP can be used for aesthetic purposes, such as minimizing acne scarring and increasing facial collagen formation. nn
Dr. Ferdinand Cabrera has 33 year of experience as a General Internist. He is the founder and president of Genesis Health Institute which specializes in Functional and Anti-Aging Medicine. He can be reached at 954-561-3175, or ia the Internet at www.ghinstitute.com.

What do you like about Miami Beach Gay Pride (MBGP) and what would you like to see implemented in this years MBGP? Miami Beach Gay Pride is gearing up for its 8th annual event and before the largest free weeklong LGBT street festival kicks off we would like to hear from you, the locals, on what you all would like to see new this year.
MARCO PEREZ
ALEXIS LORDS

IVETTE SIERRA
HUMBERTO CALERO
“When they started MBGP seven years ago, it brought everybody together and we needed that kind of party,” said Entertainment Coordinator Marco Perez. “I want to see even more of us get together, not only the LGBT community but also kids and the straight community. Most importantly, I want to see people happy. That’s it.”
“Want I like about pride is the fact that the whole community gets together for one giant party and everyone smiles for one entire day. There are no fights, no real problems and we just have the best time,” smiled Alexis Lords, the founder of the House of Lords. “I would like to see more people joining us. A lot of the people from Broward/Fort Lauderdale, I don’t know why they don’t come down. We need to reach out to them more.”
“The fact that we are free, it’s a great opportunity to show yourself and find friends and come together. That is the best part of pride. Everyone is marching with the same feeling,” expressed the dynamic singer, actor and dancer Yukioh. “For 2016, I would like to see new people. New People, New Faces and New Concepts!”
“My favorite part is that it’s free and it’s offered to everyone in the state of Florida and internationally. The diversity of the parade is overwhelming and it just keeps on growing,” remarked Ivette Sierra, a service coordinator. “I would like to see a wider variety of entertainment, clean entertainment that families can enjoy. And bring in a youth play for the children so we can make them a part of this great community.”
“Pride is very enjoyable and I feel really happy that we all get to experience many different things that pride has to offer. I really like it all,” said college student Humberto Calero. “What I would really like to see is a lot of new entertainers and dancers. Also something out there that can show the meaning of gay pride.”

ENTERTAINMENT
AZZOPARDI: Regarding American Horror Story: Can we expect you in future seasons? JACKSON: I hope so. We don’t know yet. I think we’ll all be finding out in the next few months. AZZOPARDI: How aware are you that you’ve made just about every gay man jealous by having your butt touched by Mother Monster? JACKSON: (Laughs) Oh, I knew! I knew as we were shooting it. We got to that scene, and it wasn’t in the script exactly like that. But Gaga is so playful and comfortable with scenes like that and with her body. She was really fun and she put me at ease because I had never done a scene like that. So, we were just kind of playing around and she and I have such a comfort with each other, so between set-ups I laid down for a minute and she just started, you know, rubbing my butt and I’m like, “Ooh!” The director was like, “Oh, great; let’s just do that,” and that became a thing and I thought, ‘Oh, sh*t. I can see the screen caps now.’” Continued on page 42 41
AZZOPARDI: While shooting Love Is Strange with Alfred Molina and John Lithgow, it was said that you informed them on gay vernacular, such as what it means to be a “bear.” As the gay guy on set – maybe sometimes the only one – do you find yourself schooling your straight co-stars on everything gay? JACKSON: Oh, well, I’ve never been the gay actor on set – maybe I’m the only openly gay actor. But yeah, listen, I’m happy to be the go-to
AZZOPARDI: You suggest that you’ve worked with many closeted gay actors, and we talk a lot about the Hollywood closet. Where do you stand on that? JACKSON: It’s a personal thing. I mean, everybody should do their own thing, what is right for them. I hate it when people try to pull people out of the closet – who wants that? It’s not good for them, it’s not good for us; for whatever their own reasons are, they’re not ready. Just leave people to do their own thing on their own time. I fully believe that. I mean, I came out when I wanted to because it was my time, and I hate the whole witch-hunt aspect. Just mind your own business.

Has Lady Gaga touched your butt lately? It’s a box Cheyenne Jackson can happily check off after his recent run on American Horror Story: Hotel, playing a bisexual fashion designer who, by the grace of Gaga, got felt up by Mother Monster herself. Of course the screen and stage singer-actor’s resume is far more extensive: Jackson has starred in a wide range of projects including 30 Rock, HBO’s Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, Glee and the 9/11-inspired Flight 93, portraying late gay hero Mike Bingham. Jackson’s latest is Day Out of Days, directed by Zoe Cassavetes, the daughter of filmmaker John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands. In the film, now streaming via Digital HD and VOD, he plays a gay derm lending his expertise to friend Mia (Alexia Landeau) as she tries to survive ageobsessed Hollywood. As an out gay man, Jackson knows the struggle, but he’s stopped caring. In a new interview with Jackson, the actor discusses his “fuck it” attitude at 40 (no more Botox for him), the buttgrab GIF Lady Gaga sent him and his passionate feelings on the Hollywood closet.

AZZOPARDI: When it comes to roles in general, how many scripts do you end up passing on? JACKSON: I make no bones about it: I’m not in a world where I just get offered all of these movies by any means. I’ve never put a number on it. I would say maybe five to seven offers a year and I’ll do a few. It just depends. Doing a movie, especially an indie movie, you really have to love the subject and you really have to love the writer/director. It’s such a labor of love – and I know it’s an overused phrase – but it is if you’re gonna be putting your blood, sweat and tears into it. And also, I don’t wanna take time away from my husband and my home and my family just to do a little thing.

Mr. Jackson If You’re Nasty
AZZOPARDI: You’ve played just about every variation of gay. How do you know if a gay character is right for you? JACKSON: I never pick something based on if it’s gay or not. I just pick something if the character’s right for me. I play a pretty healthy mix, although these days I’ve been playing a lot of bisexuals. I was bisexual on Horror Story and then I just finished a film where I also played bisexual, so I’m in a bi phase right now. Honestly, just the part has to appeal to me. I really do love that there’s such a broad spectrum I’ve played: gay guys who were more straight down the middle, and – though I hate this phrase – “straight acting,” and all the way to Behind the Candelabra where I was just, you know, super cunt-y.

AZZOPARDI: Who was guiding who during that sex scene? JACKSON: It was definitely a give and take. I was nervous going into it because I had never really done nudity onscreen, but she’s just great. I echo what everyone else says about working with her: She’s a total pro.

Hollywood. 33314.
AZZOPARDI: I was surprised to hear that you hadn’t done a sex scene up until that point. JACKSON: I mean, I’ve done kissing scenes and I’ve done post sex scenes and pre sex scenes, but nah. I’m definitely not shy about it. I’m totally into it. And since Horror Story, I’ve already done a film where I have sex with a woman and then I have sex with a man. So, I’m hitting it. AZZOPARDI: What’s the film? JACKSON: It’s called Hello Again. Michael John LaChiusa – it’s based on his musical. Really great cast: Rumer Willis, Audra McDonald, Martha Plimpton and Tyler Blackburn. AZZOPARDI: What’s next for you? JACKSON: I have a couple of things in the works. York. I don’t know if I wanna talk about what’s on it yet, but it’s definitely some covers and new stuff – stuff I’ve kind of been touring with the last few years, but I don’t wanna say some of the names just yet. AZZOPARDI: Like Mia in Day Out of Days, you’re also 40. Have your experiences in Hollywood been similar or different from Mia’s? And in what ways? JACKSON: Yeah, definitely different, because I’m a man. It’s a different thing for women. Aging in Hollywood, as we all know, can be brutal, especially if you’re a woman. It’s a subject that people have talked about before and even made art about, but I like this particular story that Zoe’s telling just because it’s from one woman’s perspective, and I thought it was pretty great. Personally, I like getting older, and as a man, I like what’s happening to my face. Yeah, sometimes it’s hard to see more wrinkles and grey hair, which I’m totally getting, but it’s way easier for men – way easier. I’ve been thinking about this since doing this movie, when you do see the occasional actress who doesn’t do anything to her face, like Kate Winslet – I saw something recently, and we’re the exact same age – and she has some wrinkles and she looks gorgeous and I loooove it. Oh my god do I love it. It’s so beautiful.

AZZOPARDI: While we’re on the topics of ageism and sexism, I recall your nude leak. I wonder if there’s a gender disparity when this sort of thing happens like it did to you a few years ago, when a video surfaced. Do you think there’s a difference in the way the public reacts to a male celebrity’s leak – in this case yours – versus a woman’s? JACKSON: I’m not gonna speak to that at all. AZZOPARDI: Fair. Let’s move on. As a gay man, what kind of effect has sexuality had on your career?
nnightlife nexhibits
n
RUSSIAN NATIONAL ORCHESTRA
JACKSON: That’s a good question, but there’s really no way to know what would have happened. I have been out my whole career. I came out during my very first big job in All Shook Up (in 2005) on Broadway. It was in the New York Times, and I just decided to get it out of the way so it wasn’t a thing. What effect has it had? I have no idea. Do I think I have missed out on things because I am gay? Maybe. Probably. But there’s no way to prove it. And if that’s really how something would go down, I wouldn’t want that (project) anyway. But things are definitely changing, and it’s funny that you say “as a gay man” because I find pressure on gay men, especially in our society, to look young. It’s almost like it is for women now. I see all these guys at the gym and everybody’s – well, not everybody, but a lot of guys – have a lot of stuff going on with their face.

AZZOPARDI: Do you feel like you’ve been pressured to look a certain way? JACKSON: Of course I feel the pressure – and I succumbed to it. I’m not against saying I used to do Botox and fillers for about three years. I got really into it. AZZOPARDI: Why did you decide to stop? JACKSON: I looked crazy. I didn’t look like me. I think especially on men, Botox and filler doesn’t make you look younger – I think it makes you look like you have Botox and fillers. It changed the shape of my eyes. I didn’t have any wrinkles on my forehead, and it was crazy. And then I started to obsess about every little thing. Then three years ago I was like, “Fuck it. I’m just gonna let my face do what it’s gonna do,” and I’m so happy I did. Chris Azzopardi is the editor of Q Syndicate, the international LGBT wire service. He once made Jane Fonda cry.
