Glamour Gone Screen Legend Elizabeth Taylor Dies By ALEX VAUGHN Oscar winning actress Elizabeth Taylor died on Wednesday at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital at the age of 79. "She was surrounded by her children: Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd and Maria Burton," Taylor's publicist, Sally Morrison, said in a statement. "My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love," Michael Wilding said in a statement. "Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world. Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS, makes us all incredibly proud of what she accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts." In addition to her children, Taylor is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Morrison said that a private family funeral will be held later this week. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and said that those wanting to send personal messages can log on to Taylor's official Facebook page. Taylor reported in October 2009 that she was having a heart procedure done. Via Twitter, she said it was "very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery so that my heart will function better."

Celebrating 25 Years GLAAD Makes Annual Award Announcements The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced 25 of this year’s 32 media categories at the 22nd annual GLAAD Media Awards last week. The announcement was made on Saturday, March 19, in New York City. For twenty-five years, GLAAD has been a media watchdog, holding the media responsible for how it portrays the LGBT community. Formed in New York in 1985 to protest the New York Post’s defamatory and sensationalized AIDS coverage, GLAAD put pressure on media organizations to end the trend of homophobic reporting. In 1987, after a meeting with GLAAD, The New York Times changed its editorial policy to use the word “gay” instead of including anti-gay rhetoric. GLAAD soon advocated that the Associated Press and other television and print news sources follow. Today, G L A A D ' s Announcing Equality project has resulted in more than 1,000 newspapers including gay and lesbian announcements alongside other wedding listings.H
Same-Sex Marriage Ban Upheld In California A federal appeals court refused to let same-sex marriages resume in California while it considers the constitutionality of a 2008 ballot measure that defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman. The Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals had been asked last month to lift its suspension of an August, 2010, federal court ruling by Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker declaring the ballot measure unconstitutional, saying it discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation and gender. Plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging Proposition 8 cited the Appeals Court’s decision to put the case on hold while the California Supreme Court decides matters regarding whether the sponsors of the initiative, a conservative religious coalition called Protect Marriage, have standing under state law to appeal the ruling. While the state court is not scheduled to hear arguments on that issue until September, it might take months more to rule before the case can return to the federal court. "It is decidedly unjust and unreasonable to expect California's gay and lesbian couples to put their lives on hold and suffer daily discrimination as second-class citizens while their U.S. District Court victory comes to its final conclusion," said Chad Griffin in a statement. Griffin is the chairman of The American Foundation for Equal Rights, which represents the plaintiffs.H

Majority Support Gay Marriage NEW YORK – A slim majority of Americans now support gay marriage, according to a new Washington PostABC News poll. The results emphasize further that the nation’s tolerant views about homosexuality are increasing and is reflected in a string of legal and legislative victories for gay rights. Five years ago, at 36%, support for gay marriage barely topped a third of all Americans. Now, 53% say gay marriage should be legal, marking the first time in Post-ABC polling that a majority has said so.H

Overall, voters say they oppose the Defense of Marriage Act: 51% oppose the law and 34% favor it. Independent voters, who were instrumental in the Republican House takeover, oppose this

Student Suicide Over Gay Sex Film Parents Want Roommate Prosecuted But Not “Harshly Punished” Parents call for justice, not punishment
“Gay Cure” App Causes Further Controversy for Apple Prior to Removal Professor and Exodus International both claim misrepresentation

The parents of, Tyler Clementi, a student who committed suicide after a film of him having sex was streamed live on the internet have said they don't want the alleged culprit to receive 'harsh punishment'. But they said they still want the invasion of privacy case to go ahead to prove their son's death was not the result of a mere 'college prank.' Exactly six months after his suicide, Mr. Clementi's grieving parents issued a statement saying they still want justice for their son - but they don't want his fellow student Dharun Ravi to be harshly punished. Jane and Joseph Clementi's lawyer told the Newark Star Ledger: 'We feel it is important to establish accountability and to further establish that Tyler was subject to criminal acts, not merely a college prank as some may argue.' Clementi, 18, jumped to his death from a bridge just a few weeks into his first term at Rutgers University, New Jersey after his roommate allegedly taped the gay encounter. Ravi faces two charges of invasion of
privacy after allegedly hiding a camera in Mr. Clementi's room to film his intimate encounter with another man. He is also accused of trying to set up a second tape. His classmate, Molly Wei, also faces invasion of privacy charges after she allegedly watched the video with Ravi. Both students have since left Rutgers University and are on bail while prosecutors pursue the case. They have been neither arraigned nor indicted and the investigation is still ongoing. Mr. and Mrs. Clementi said they want their son's roommate, Dharun Ravi, prosecuted. They made no comment about Molly Wei, who was also charged. Mr. and Mrs. Clementi's lawyer, Paul Mainardi, said they would like the case to be resolved soon. He said: 'Now that the criminal investigation has been substantially completed, it is hoped that the prosecutor will announce additional charges against Tyler’s former roommate and proceed to submit those charges to the grand jury promptly.' Apple's inclusion in its App Store of Christian group Exodus International's "gay cure" app has caused controversy across the board. A petition on Change.org urging Apple to yank the app has nearly 130,000 signatures, and now a scientist whose work is cited in the app has written a letter to the company demanding the app's removal. Dr. Gary Remafedi, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota and director of the Youth and AIDS Project, says his research is misinterpreted in the app. Remafedi said in a letter that the Exodus International app “erroneously cites my research in support of claims that homosexuality can be changed”. He continued, ‘Associating my work with that of the ex-gay ministry and other unfounded treatments is professionally injurious and grievous." Remafedi also said that the app twists his research to say that young people who are homosexual are just "confused" about their sexual orientation. Exodus International responded to the controversy claiming that they, too, have been misrepresented.
“In no way, shape, or form is our message about trying to cure or do we try to promote that type of methodology or message,” said Jeff Buchanan, the organization's senior director of church equipping and student ministries. “Really, the point of the application is to provide the material that is also on our Web site in smartphone format”, he went on to say. “We are helping those who have unwanted same-sex attractions. Those who are gay or identify themselves that way, in no way, shape, or form are we trying to speak to their position or trying to impose anything upon them." Exodus International describes itself as "the world's largest ministry to individuals and families impacted by homosexuality." The group says the app "is designed to be a useful resource for men, women, parents, students, and ministry leaders." Its app, which carries the same name, has been given a 4+ rating from Apple, which means it has been found to contain "no objectionable content." There's been a flood of disagreement Continues on NEWS on Page 12

They did not comment on whether they wanted Wei to be prosecuted too. Mr. Clementi is believed to have thrown himself off the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River on September 22 last year after discovering messages on Ravi's Twitter page about the film. He left a message on his Facebook page which said simply: “jumping off the gw bridge sorry”. Since his death his parents, who are deeply private, have made plans for a foundation in his name, which they plan to launch in the next few weeks. They told the Star-Ledger the Tyler Clementi Foundation will aim to help raise awareness about cyber-bullying and how the internet affects the privacy of young people. Mr. and Mrs. Clementi said: “We have received overwhelming kindness and support from friends, neighbors, our church family and many good people who do not even know us — through cards, letters, calls, flowers, food and prayers.” Earlier this month the Point Foundation announced it was launching a scholarship in Mr. Clementi's memory, which will be awarded to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. Tyler Clementi was a gifted violinist. His death has served as a rallying point for anti-bullying and gay rights campaigners, became a focus for gay rights and anti-bullying campaigners, and
with Apple's assessment of the app. LGBT advocacy group Truth Wins Out (TWO), the organization behind the Change.org petition, said Exodus uses "scare tactics, misinformation, stereotypes, and distortions of LGBT life to recruit clients." It calls Exodus' message "hateful and bigoted." "If Apple does not respond, we will take steps to ensure that Apple meets with the victims of ex-gay ministries and learns how their lives were destroyed," TWO executive director Wayne Besen said. "It is astounding that Apple would allow an app from an organization that promotes gay exorcisms, demonizes LGBT people, and is rejected by every respected mentalhealth association in America." Apple has been a strong ally to the LGBT community for years, even donating $100,000 to defeat California’s Proposition 8, the state’s ban on marriage equality. However, this isn't the first time Apple has been caught in a skirmish over an app of this nature. Last year Apple removed an app based on the Manhattan Declaration, an antigay manifesto signed in 2009 by Christian and Catholic leaders that condemns same-sex unions as the "erosion of marriage." Before its removal, this app also carried a 4+ rating. It was given the boot after a petition on change.org was signed by about 7,000 people. So far, Apple has been silent on the matter and has not responded to several
Tyler Clementi brought about sweeping changes at Rutgers University. In January, officials announced they will allow men and women to share rooms from September to make the campus more inclusive for gay students. Parents will not be allowed to veto their children's choices, and undergraduates will not be asked to reveal if they are gay. The university is also offering more training to help its staff deal with suicidal students, and has added a module on diversity and bullying to this summer's freshman orientation program.H

requests for comment. Tuesday night, Apple complied with the request to remove the “gay cure” app. It is likely Apple felt the heat from the more than 150,000 people who signed the petition on change.org. An Apple spokesperson told PC Magazine “We removed the exodus international app from the App Store, because it violates our developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people. Gawkers, Nick Denton pointed out “Every time Apple removes an app, it implies a moral endorsement of the content of that app. Rejections, likewise, carry a moral condemnation. The right answer here is for Apple to support gay rights, but an even better answer would be if Apple could say it supports free speech and argument in the app store within the boundaries of the law and is not going to intervene in disputes over morality.”H

Highway to the Comfort Zone I am as guilty as anyone for hiding in my comfort zone; I still haven’t really left it. You would think coming to America would have done it, hardly, I have been coming to Florida a minimum of three times a year for nearly my entire 28 years on this earth! I drive in areas I know, I wear designers I like, eat food I trust, am not as adventurous in my travels as I used to be. I have no desire to fight much of the status quo. I like what I like that’s the end of it. Sure I could be open to new experiences as long as they are local, styled and fit within my boundaries of adventurous. This weekend I took a cruise to the Bahamas. To many residents of Florida, a cruise is the norm; to me, this was definitely leaving my comfort zone. I don’t especially love boats, nor do I enjoy buffets. On finding out their wifi was only available in one spot on the entire ship, inside, under the A/C and in a nonsmoking area, you can but imagine the culture shock. I was undoubtedly out to sea, and out of my comfort zone. It got me thinking, what is the comfort zone for the community? Well, the fact that in Florida there are groups and activities, restaurants, spas, shops and, of course the bars and clubs, would go a way to explain why so many gay people move here to be comfortable. Have we gotten so used to staying within the community that leaving it causes anxiety? Or worse, do we now see absolutely no need to leave it at all? I asked some of my new found friends within the community their thoughts, and pretty much the consensus was, ‘we have everything we need here. Why go elsewhere?’ I was shocked. Gay people are supposed to be all accepting and yet, leaving Wilton Manors or South Beach or Key West or any of the other so called ‘gay’ parts of town seems far too daunting an experience to endure! I have a friend who had a birthday party for one of his straight clients at the Hard Rock, he was beyond anxious. I thought he would have a fit. He couldn’t fathom not being in Wilton Manors on a
Saturday night. The idea he would have to be himself without the safety net of the community was nearly too much for him. He questioned what he would wear, say, do – it was almost laughable. He is an accomplished and successful business-
Alex Vaughn man, and the prospect of not being in gay town on a Saturday night turned him into a wreck! Florida is one of the most quiet states in terms of political activity for gay rights. We have amazing groups but minimal activity in comparison to NYC, DC and San Fransisco. I couldn’t understand how this could be, given the fact that Wilton Manors has one of the biggest gay populations per capita in the entire world! It has since dawned on me: It’s almost as if all the gays have been hoarded into areas like Key West and Wilton Manors. They have no desire to filter out of their bed of roses, and the straights are happy to let them stay there and pop in occasionally. They have become complacent. Perhaps now it’s time to venture out, leave the comfort zone. It is not a horrid
world out there, there are many bars and restaurants and an entire lifestyle out of the gay community. One of the best ways to enlighten opposition is not to tell them ‘we are the same and deserve the same’ but show them. There are places like the new Saia in the B Ocean, The W, multiple outlets for Trulucks, Blue Martini, and a smorgasbord of other venues in Florida that are not only gay friendly but, that are fun. They all have happy hours and a mixed crowd. Don’t you ever feel it would be good to be yourself out of the territory? To show what you have to offer? We are all so different and yet the stereotypes still reign over people’s perceptions. Why not go out there and show people, and at the same time see something different, someone different. It really was no different to my first night on the cruise, without my wifi, and a questionable signal on my blackberry. As per my editorial last week I was lost. I went against all of my recent articles and hauled up in my cabin with some Gin and started typing out this opinion, all the while praying for the maritime connection so I could message my friends all over the world about the oddities I had witnessed. By 9pm, I was bored of my own company and slightly tiddly, I had really no choice but to speak to people. Being in a bar that you can leave as soon as you get bored is considerably different to being on a boat on the way to Freeport. So, I decided to go and make some friends. I ended up having a blast that night, with a great couple from Tennessee, who felt exactly how I did. It made the whole trip more pleasant. Take a trip you wouldn’t this week. Go to a bar you have never been, or a restaurant that isn’t within a mecca. Venture out of the sector and make a friend, enlighten someone about the community, whilst enlightening yourself.H

Letters to the editor DEAR EDITOR, KUDOS for Jessica Osman's "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" In her March 17 op-ed, she was so right when she said that for EQUAL RIGHTS we should take the word "marriage" out of the equation and go for words that would grant equality, such as "civil unions." In the aura of separation of church and state, our fight has been from the religious zealots protecting the sanctity of their hallowed "marriage." Why should we care what we call it as long as we get the legal rights we constitutionally deserve? I would like for my partner of 17 years to be able to inherit my social security benefits, along with the other thousand or so benefits a legal union provides,
and I don't think there would be so much objection to this if a different term other than "marriage" were used. Let's get the EQUAL RIGHTS first, which I am sure most people do not object to, then if semantics need be involved that issue could be addressed down the line. My "husband" and myself were legally "married" in Canada, but if the words were "domestic partner" or "civil partner" it certainly wouldn't matter to us. C'mon, gay America, let's get over this hurdle and, as Jessica stated, "find the middle ground." I'm sure our battle for equality would be greatly streamlined. Sincerely, MIKE GAUPIN (AND JON GORCYCA)
DEAR EDITOR Your article on Sexual Racism or Just a Preference really made me think about my own life. Years ago, I had a serious weight problem and still struggle with it on a daily basis. I thought about all the times I would see someone on the street and they would look at me with disgust. I remember the times I would see someone that I was interested in meeting, smile at them and they would not return the smile or look the other way or online in a chat room when the "what's your stats" question would come up and would answer honestly and there would be no reply after ... it hurt. Sexual Racism or Just a Preference, could it be both? Then I started to think about have
I excluded someone based on this? Were they too short or tall, did they have a couple of extra pounds or were they too thin, not muscular enough? I realize as I get older ... why would I exclude anyone? If you exclude someone you are really excluding yourself from possibly meeting someone really special or possibly missing out experiencing something new because of this person. I now say hello to the person walking down the street. If they extend their hand for a handshake I will extend my hand as well. If I don't I may never know if I missed out on meeting someone truly spectacular. Sincerely, JOE LIQUORI

The Skinny On Testosterone and Sex Drive For years our biggest concern when it came to testosterone was related to tales of roid rage. After school specials warned us on the dangers of beefed-up gym bunnies going into uncontrollable fits, throwing people through walls, and of course, there was the additional fear of acne and a diminishing penis. But these days there seems to be more talk about the dangers of low testosterone, or “Low-T.” Testosterone is a steroid hormone. It’s the principal male sex hormone and it’s also responsible for healthy mental and physical development. Testosterone, along with a few other vital components, can make the difference between how lucky you feel, look and get. As so many of us do, we try so hard to turn back the clock, but as we all come to learn “time is the one thing that does not forgive.” And it seems our bodies, at least internally, keep pretty good track of time. As we age, our production of testosterone decreases and our metabolism begins to slow down. That slowed
metabolism encourages the production of fat cells in our body, producing aromatase, “which is responsible for converting testosterone into estrogen,” according to the Science Daily. Estrogen in small amounts actually has some benefits. However, with our already decreasing testosterone levels and continuing increasing estrogen levels, the results can be less than flattering. Elevated estrogen levels are also correlated with heart attack, stroke, blood clot, diabetes, thyroid problems and even types of cancers, such as prostate and male breast cancer. But, as I’ve stated many times, it really is all about the sex. The combination of Low-T, increased estrogen levels and an increase in body fat can have a detrimental effect on one’s sex drive. It’s known as “hypogonadism,” a decreased libido. Fortunately, the condition is treatable, and there are a variety of options. Changes in your diet and exercise may do just the trick. By decreasing the chances of fat cells transforming your
already dimensioning testosterone hormones into estrogen you can derail the cycle. “This is especially true of fat around the abdomen, because belly fat absorbs testosterone more efficiently than any other fat cells in the body. To raise libido, the challenge is not so much to reduce weight as to reduce waist size” according to one MSN report. For those of us who are a little less disciplined, there are some medical options. Testosterone replacement therapies and anti-estrogen therapy are common medical treatments. Low testosterone treatments can be prescribed. One option is as an intramuscular injection, taken as needed (usually biweekly). There is also a patch or gel, which is placed on the skin. Each form of treatment has its risks and benefits. And with benefits like a healthier heart, gut and sex life, you’ll feel better. Really … you’ll actually feel better. Testosterone levels may also influence
the level of serotonin (a chemical that influences a variety of brain cells). Increased serotonin levels could stimulate feelings of motivation or self-confidence - and what’s sexier than that?H

news LOSS OF A LEGEND Continued from Cover Taylor, a two-time Academy Awardwinning actress, who in later life became notorious for her seven marriages and sometimes eccentric behavior, had reported health problems in recent years and appeared frail in public appearances. Six weeks ago, she was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. The actress' past health setbacks included a fall from a horse during one of her early film shoots, bouts with pneumonia and skin cancer, a tracheotomy, treatment for alcohol and painkiller addictions, and lung, hip, brain and heart surgeries. She has had anywhere from 30 to 40 surgeries, according to biographers. In addition, she has seen her dramatic life frequently covered by gossip magazines, which have documented evident fluctuations in her weight over the years. But she's iconic for being one of the most popular actresses of Hollywood's golden age. Born in London in 1932 to American parents who returned to the U.S. with WWII looming, Taylor bounded into the spotlight at age 12 after starring in the 1944 box office sensation "National Velvet." She won acclaim as an adult with 1951's "A Place In The Sun" and went on to score best actress Oscar nominations for "Raintree County," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," and "Suddenly, Last Summer." In 1963, she memorably starred in "Cleopatra". She later won Oscars for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf ?" and "Butterfield 8".
The Icon, Elizabeth Taylor, July 2010

Beyond acting, Taylor is credited with bringing the world's attention to AIDS with her fund-raising and activism. In 1985, when Taylor's lifelong friend Rock Hudson died of AIDS, she brought national attention to the growing disease. It was satisfying to her to use her celebrity for good - she raised and donated millions to the cause, founding the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) and The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. "I don't think President Bush is doing anything at all about AIDS. In fact, I'm not sure he even knows how to spell AIDS," Taylor said once, frustrated with President Bush's slow-moving efforts to address the crisis. She was also an entrepreneur, spearheading a successful line of perfume and multiple jewellery lines. In 1999, Taylor was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Taylor's last major interview appeared in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar. In it, she told super fan, reality TV star Kim Kardashian about her love life, her iconic roles and her jewels. "I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands," Taylor said. "I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course, I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things." Taylor also mused about one of her former husbands, actor Richard Burton. "It was inevitable that we would be married again, but it's not up for discussion," she said.H

Simply ways to improve performance where it counts! By TOM BONANTI Did you realize that your lifestyle and what you eat affects your sexual performance? A balanced diet of whole, unprocessed foods and avoiding too much animal fat and refined sugar is a good place to start if you want to improve your sex life. Alcohol should be used moderately, especially before sex. Too much, in fact, can hinder your performance and actually lower testosterone levels. Smoking is just plain gross and should be avoided entirely. Of course, workouts that are consistent and challenging will make you look and feel sexy, and regular cardio will keep you lean and mean and increase your stamina. Grrrr! All this being said, even the boldest of stallions occasionally feels like the “old gray mare who ain’t what he used to be.” There are a number of common, inexpensive dietary supplements available that have a role in keeping your sex organs healthy and your libido raring to go. So here is my list of the top five, and remember: before taking any supplement, consult your doctor first! Vitamins C and E are powerful antioxidants that can help prevent the onset of serious illnesses and premature aging. They also keep cholesterol from clogging
your blood vessels including those in your penis. When these are stopped up, it becomes difficult to get and maintain a healthy erection. An additional 500 to 1,000 mg of Vitamin C and 200 to 400 IU Vitamin E are recommended each day. Recent reports cite Zinc as one of the most important minerals in the fight against colds and flu. Zinc is also essential for the production of testosterone by the testes. Many enzymes that are necessary for the conversion of steroids to testosterone require Zinc to be active. Without sufficient Zinc, the testes can’t produce sufficient testosterone and they can often atrophy and shrink in size! Seafood and green leafy vegetables are rich in Zinc. A typical male between 30 and 55 should get at least 15 mg of Zinc per day. Avena Sativa (or green oats) are known to increase libido and sex drive. This natural substance is found in any healthy food store. Green oats contain a compound that converts protein-boundtestosterone in the blood to the active form of testosterone that is vital for promoting arousal and sexual desire. Yohimbe is a sort of natural Cialis or Viagra extracted from the yohimbe bark. Simply taking 250-400 mg of yohimbe bark extract at least one hour prior to hitting the sack may lead to some mighty
satisfying results for everyone concerned. As with any sexual stimulant, do not drink alcohol or take “poppers” with this herb, and beware of using this supplement if you have high blood pressure! D i hyd ro e p i a d ro s t e ro n e (DHEA) has been around for a little while now. Although it has numerous health benefits, it is perhaps best known as a hormonal precursor of t e s t o s t e ro n e. With age, testosterone levels wain. Taking DHEA as a dietary supplement will help produce more testosterone and more of this will make you horny. 25-50 mg per day, preferably spread over three daily doses, should help get back your mojo! There are tons of herbs and supplements that can help with sexual performance. Do your research, experiment a little but always check with your physician first to see what is safe for you!H

Staying Young, The Easy Way By ALEX VAUGHN Dr. Ferdinand Cabrera is the founder and president of Genesis Health Institute which specializes in Functional and Anti-Aging Medicine. When did you open Genesis and why did you choose to do so here in Wilton Manors? We opened the Genesis Health Institute in October, 2007, and have developed a community base of over 350 patients. For us, there really wasn't a choice, we wanted to help those in the community in which we reside. It is very gratifying to see patients whose lives have been transformed by utilizing our services. Many of our patients have become good friends and we are grateful for the relationships we have built over the years. How does the Health institute work? Our Anti-Aging therapies are performed by a medical doctor, board certified in anti-aging medicine with a fellowship in integrative and functional medicines (true preventative medicine). As we age, starting in our late thirties, our hormone levels start to decrease and lack the balance they once had. We strive to have our patients feel the way they did in their late twenties/early thirties again, all medically supervised. Please tell Agenda readers some more about Testosterone Therapy. Testosterone Therapy for men ... this therapy promotes the building of lean muscle mass, decrease; body fat, improves energy levels and strength, improves thought process, improves memory, improves your overall feeling of well-being and increase sex drive/libido. This therapy is remarkable in turning back the hands of time and gets the greatest impact in the way you feel in the shortest amount of time. What would you recommend for improving over all body health? HGH (Human Growth Hormone) Therapy promotes the building of lean muscle mass, decreases body fat, improves energy and stamina, improves quality of sleep, enhanced dreams, improves positive attitude, improves digestion, improves skin tone, improves hair and nail growth, improves healing and overall zest for life. This therapy is available as a precursor or as an all-out replacement. We usually advise our patients to start with testosterone therapy and then add this therapy in three to six months. Intravenous Nutrition Therapy has been attracting a lot of positive

attention; you also offer this at Genesis. Yes, this therapy primarily rebuilds and supports a patient's immune system. There are a number of IV's available which are customized to achieve the patient's individual goal. Chelation therapy removes toxins and heavy metals from the body while improving blood circulation. Plaquex therapy removes plaque from the arteries decreasing heart issues and improves blood circulation to all areas of the body including the brain which assists in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. We also offer a Super Immune IV, which diminishes the onset of the common cold when administered early on ... it also assists beautifully in helping a patient recover from a long weekend of festivity. Another IV offered is High Dose Vitamin C, which is used alone or in con-
junction with traditional Cancer fighting treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation. So now they are fighting fit on the inside, what about the outside? Definitely, Facial Aesthetics. We provide a complete line of facial aesthetic services from SkinMedica skin care products and chemical peels, Botox and Dysport, to varied facial fillers such as Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane. I am able to enhance a patient's look to include the eyes, cheeks and lips. You are also one of very few Doctors working with a Patient Access Program for patients with HIV Yes, the makers of Radiesse work with our community and we promote the
Patient Access Program, which allows patients with HIV to receive products sometimes for as little as only 20% of the regular cost. It is my chance to truly be an artist when it comes to facial aesthetics and believe that a few subtle enhancements over a period of time achieves a more natural and favorable look than having a major enhancement completed at one sitting. Several patients from our community have benefited greatly from utilizing the affordability of the Patient Access Program from the makers of Radiesse.H

But even if you can handle the street eats, don’t drink the tap water – it’s a surefire way to kill any potential hook ups! As our nation’s capital celebrates the end of DOMA and the recent victory of gay marriage, we look at some of our other favorite capital cities in the Americas to see what’s going on south of the border!
Buenos Aires The European architecture, rich cultural offerings, and affluence that characterized Buenos Aires during its Renaissance years (circa early 1900s) rightfully branded the city, “Paris of the Southern Hemisphere”. For the first half of the 20th century, Buenos Aires shined as an epicenter of opulence in a gargantuan landmass extending from the icy periphery of Antarctica to the lush mountains of the sub-equator and the barren lands of Patagonia. Despite decades of dramatic economic cycles, political turmoil, and devastating currency devaluation in 2001, the posh neighborhood, Recoleta, prevails unscathed. Recoleta remains the hub of high society, home to the classical
French and Spanish buildings that bestow Buenos Aires with its European flair, flavored by the city’s wildly growing gay population. It is here where visitors find the world’s most visually stunning cemetery, the majority of upscale accommodations, and fashionistas aimlessly wandering the streets. It’s also here where the most opulent of gay weddings have been held since Argentina legalized gay marriage in 2010. H

San Jose Costa Rica is a magnificent, gayfriendly country with an impeccable tourism infrastructure, satisfying the Gringo hunger for adventure and tropical beauty. Everyday life is defined by “pura vida,” a saying and philosophy meaning pure life, which guides ticos (Costa Ricans) in their amicable interactions with visitors. Though San Jose is a hard sell as a stand-alone city break, it’s surely fun enough for a two-day visit en route to greener Costa Rican pastures, especially considering it has six gay venues in the confines of a small city. Most clubs in San Jose charge a cover of roughly $7 to $10 US dollars, which grants entry and barra libre (open bar) until 1 or 2 am. Yes - drink all you want for one flat price and the Costa Rican guys are always ready to party! Costa Rica has yet to legalize gay marriage but the “pura vida” lifestyle has always guided this Central American gem as a liberal refuge in a homophobic isthmus. When Something Wicked This Way Comes By MICHAEL FRENCH
Speeding across Alligator Alley from Naples to Palm Beach with my mother, aunt, and three dogs crammed into the car, the Everglades was a fuzzy, green and blue blur. I was extremely concerned with the looming “beast” I saw in the rear view mirror. “She” was like a predator in hot pursuit, literally nipping at our heels, or wheels, in this case. Twenty four hours later I would find out first hand my worry was more than warranted. “She” was WILMA, not as in Flintstone, but as in Hurricane Wilma!
jean’s kitchen
Wilma was forecast to slam the Naples, Ft Myers area. It would just bring a good rain to Florida’s east coast megalopolis. I lived in Naples at the time. Trying to be proactive, the plan was to escape her wrath “roughing it” in Palm Beach at a family member’s home, all snug and secure, sipping champagne while Wilma was wreaking havoc in Naples. I had made sure I did everything possible to prevent any hurricane damage to my home in Naples. We had our plans. Life, as it often does, had plans for us. The cliche, “To change her mind, is a woman’s prerogative” might be sexist, but Wilma did exactly that! With little warning, she changed her projected course. Vacuumed and funneled in by the unusually warm, shallow waters of the Everglades, steroids for a monster storm, she barreled due east from Naples, morphing into a category three hurricane, winds approaching 120 miles per hour, zeroing in on Florida’s Gold Coast, home to seven million people. We didn’t have time in Palm Beach to do all the things I had done at home in Naples to ready their home and the family for Wilma’s thrashing. As she bore down on South Florida, her winds roared like a freight train, rattling ten foot sliding glass doors, prompting all
Laughing Cow Zucchini Soup
This soup is amazing. Light, velvety, creamy. You will love it. Zucchini is the star of this soup, and it definitely changes from the usual way we cook it. It is so simple! In France, “La Vache Qui Rit” is very popular. They even sell it in a mini cube version, to be served as an aperitif. They're called apericubes. The flavors of apericubes range from blue cheese to goat cheese and rosemary, olive, tomato or ham. I love them! 1 Onion coarsely chopped 2 Shallots sliced 4 Big zucchinis, peeled and sliced 1 or 2 tbsp of olive oil Thyme Salt and pepper to taste 2 Pints of water A cube of chicken stock (optional) 4 Portions of Laughing Cow cheese Heat the olive oil in a saucepan & brown the onions and shallots on high heat. Then add the zucchini and water; chicken stock if you are using it (you are the chef), the
thyme and, of course, the cheese… boil for about 15 minutes, on medium heat. Stir often. Transfer everything to the blender. Taste, add salt and pepper, and maybe a little more olive oil. Serve and enjoy! H

twelve of us to huddle in the master bathroom, the safest place to be during a hurricane. Just after the eye, with its eerie, ominous, deceiving calm passed, Wilma’s howling winds returned. Peering through the cracks of the shutters, I saw only a swirling soup of branches, chairs, debris and shingles. The doors were blocked by fallen trees. When I crawled out a window, the damage to the home and neighborhood resembled Hiroshima. Wilma caused billions of dollars in property damage, left thousands without power for up to three weeks and closed thousands of businesses. She clobbered South Florida with a vengeance less than 5 weeks before the end of a chaotic hurricane season. Most people, including myself and my family, were caught off guard. Hurricane season begins June 1st and ends December 1st. Be prepared! Have an escape route planned. Keep the car’s gas tank full during the entire season. Have all your plans and materials in place at the beginning of the season. DO NOT wait until the last minute. Every municipality has evacuation procedures. If told to evacuate, do it! Local governments offer tried and true lists of the “Do’s and Don’ts” for hurricane season. Among them: Have a week’s supply of
water, canned food, propane, charcoal and other non perishable staples. Freeze as much as possible, including containers of water. Keep the fridge full. Full freezers and refrigerators stay cold longer. Have plenty of batteries for flashlights, etc. Fill the tub with water. Buy tablets to sterilize water. Make sure your insurances are up to date. Once a storm is named insurance companies will not issue or augment policies. Put patio furniture, etc in the garage or in the pool. If you don’t have hurricane shutters, board up windows and doors with plywood. Hurricanes can have a fury more ferocious and vicious than a million enraged drag queens! There is almost always plenty of warning before a hurricane strikes. Why wait until it’s pounding at the door? Even when there isn’t much warning, as was the case with Wilma, when there’s sensible planning, personal responsibility, common sense and good listening skills, no one ever has be a hurricane victim. It’s never too early to be prepared.H
