South Florida Same Sex Couple Attend Famed White House Easter Egg Roll Washington, DC – One of the six same sex couples in Equality Florida Institute’s lawsuit that’s challenging Florida’s ban on same sex marriages attended the 136th White House Easter Egg Roll in Washington, DC. The event, themed “Hop Into Healthy, Swing Into Shape,” was hosted by the First Family on the South Lawn of the White House and featured live entertainment, sports, food and the famed Easter egg rolling event. Melanie and Vanessa Alenier, from Hollywood, came to the event with their five year old son Ethan. Alenier told CBS that simply being at the event was an amazing milestone for the family. “I think it’s amazing for us to just

Florida Included in 12 States with Anti-Sodomy Laws Baton Rouge, LA – In a new report by the Associated Press, a dozen states are revealed to still have anti-sodomy laws in place, 10 years after the bans were ruled unconstitutional. One state in particular is Louisiana, where gay rights groups state that police have used anti-sodomy laws to target gay men. State lawmakers were religious in their arguments, refusing to repeal the law law week when it discussed.

Of the 14 states that had anti-sodomy laws in place, only Montana and Virginia have repealed theirs since the Supreme Court’s ruling 10 years ago, said Sarah Warbelow, legal director for the Human Rights Campaign, in a report from the Associated Press. Warbelow says that in addition to Louisiana, the laws remain on the books in Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. The suit from 2003, called Lawrence v. Texas, ruled that it is unconstitutional to

stop consensual sex between adults, citing it as a violation of the 14th Amendment. Warbelow claims that lawmakers are overwhelmed by the thought of having to rewrite statutes to address concerns about aggravated sodomy. Some of the anti-sodomy laws use one statute to ban both consensual and aggravated sodomy, with opponents of the repeal arguing that it would remove protections from oral and anal sexual assault. Warbelow argued that lawmakers can address the issue by rewriting their sexualassault statutes.

The event itself was a benefit for the Brian Neal Fitness and Health Foundation, and in a special tribute, fitness guru Peter Jackson was presented with the “Making A Difference” Leadership Award for his work in the local fitness industry and work with HIV+ individuals. “The award this year goes to someone who, since landing in Fort Lauderdale 5 years ago, has helped hundreds of LBGT individuals get on the pathway to healthier lives through exercise,” said Bobby Blair, co-founder of the Brian Neal Fitness and Health Foundation, as he introduced Jackson. “For more than a decade, he has studied the impact of exercise on HIV-related conditions, and the Poz Fitness program he developed and runs is a first-of-its-kind in the nation. He writes a bi-weekly fitness column for the Florida Agenda and

speaks regularly on health issues, including HIV. An ardent supporter of the work of the Brian Neal Fitness & Health Foundation, he is also a founding member of the soon-to-be-opened World AIDS Museum & Educational Center. He is a corporate sponsor of the Positive Young People (PYP) Foundation which supports HIV-positive youth and is an active member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.” Jackson, who is the founder and president of Push Fitness, Club One CrossFit and Inner G Yoga, all located in Oakland Park, received the award from Brian Neal. In a brief acceptance speech, Jackson pointed out that despite all the tremendous advances in the treatment of HIV, almost 5,000 individuals still die every day from AIDS-related complications. “We know exercise and nutrition have a huge impact on the health of those with HIV,” Jackson said. “That’s why I believe in the work of the Brian Neal Fitness & Health Foundation and why I am devoted to the development of our Poz Fitness program.”

Los Angeles, CA – The recent episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, in which contestants had to guess a person’s gender based on close-ups of photos, created a huge backlash and caused a lot of problems for the show. The show issued an apology last week, telling viewers it would be removed from video archives, never to be seen again. “We did not intend to cause any offense, but in retrospect, we realize that it was insensitive,” wrote Logo executives in a statement. “We sincerely apologize.” While Carmen Carrera and Milk (both previous contestants) both said that they

didn’t believe the show meant any harm, Carrera believes that using the word “tranny” is far from okay. “‘Tranny,’” Carrera told The Advocate in an interview alongside fellow Drag Race alumni Monica Beverly Hillz, “is like saying ‘faggot,’ ‘spic,’ or the ‘n word.’ It’s just these words you don’t speak.” Similarly, Carrera said she does not appreciate drag performers trying to “reclaim” the word “tranny,” akin to how some have “reclaimed” the words

Honolulu, HI – A former model and actor, named Michael Egan III, has claimed that “X-Men” director Bryan Singer sexually abused him as a teen in the late 1990s. The lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday, says the director forced Egan into sex during parties in California and Hawaii when he was 17 years old. Singer’s attorney, Marty Singer, released a statement claiming that the accusations were anything but true. “It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan’s new movie is about to open in a few weeks,” said Marty Singer, who claims no relation to the director. Though the Associated Press does not usually name victims of sexual abuse,

“queer” or “fag.” “I feel like right now we’re barely breaking through as far as people respecting us – even just as humans,” Carrera told the publication. “We’re still trying to be seen as equal. These words are ignorant words, and I feel like [trans awareness is] not at a point where [anyone can say] ‘Yeah, let’s take back the power and use them anyway!’ No. First let’s get respected. Let’s make sure everyone sees eye-to-eye and understands who we are as people, and then we’ll talk about the word that we’re comfortable with.” Carrera says that being politically correct in any scenario is as easy as using the appropriate gender pronoun, such as “he” or “she.” “All you have to use is he and she,” Carrera said. “If you don’t want to be worried about using the right word, then how about just use the right pronoun? Let’s bring it back to elementary-school grammar.”

Universal fingerprinting was drafted in August of last year, which orders every Russian resident to register at their place of residence and undergo fingerprinting. The current bill (which would include those living with HIV) states that those who refuse can be punished with fines of up to $1400, while non-citizens could be deported and even banned from entering Russia for 15 years.

The administration would also create a nationwide database for all of those living with the virus. State Duma deputy Roman Khudyakov of the Liberal Democratic told the daily Russian paper, Izvestia, that he prepared an amendment to a federal bill that would require all persons living with a dangerous contagious disease to undergo a fingerprinting procedure. The Case for War

n 1978, Senator George McGovern, a man whose opposition to the war in Vietnam was second to none, stunned the nation by proposing that the United States invade Cambodia as part of an international military coalition to put an end to the genocide taking place in that country. Senator McGovern’s critics saw his proposal as a reversal of his opposition to our involvement in Southeast Asia. But what they could not understand was that what the Khmer Rouge was doing in Cambodia, under the ruthless leadership of dictator Pol Pot, was quite different from the legitimate civil war that had taken place in Vietnam a few years earlier. While war is never an ideal option — and, in fact, should be the last resort in any situation — it does occasionally serve a noble purpose. The proof is that, while McGovern was being ridiculed in this country for his apparent change of mind, it was an independent Vietnam, after having thrown Americans out of its territory, that put an end to the mass killings in Cambodia, one of the worst cases of genocide in history. (It is estimated that as many as three million people — roughly one-third of the population of Cambodia — were killed during Pol Pot’s reign of terror.) Yes, sometimes war serves a noble purpose. I can think of no greater example than the invasion of the European continent by the United States that put an end to the great Holocaust of Jews, homosexuals and other minorities. Without the American Civil War, it might have taken centuries to bring an end to slavery in the Southern States. In those historical cases, both Roosevelt and Lincoln recognized the horrible necessity of military action to bring about the ideal result to save human beings. Their greatness was to understand that they had no choice but to stand firm and guide a reluctant people to do the right thing. Reserving the option of war for only cases where it is morally compelling is compulsory in understanding and applying this “noble purpose” concept. A government that goes to war all too frequently for dubious purposes will have difficulty getting its people to support the next war, no matter how noble the purpose may be. So it was for Roosevelt, who had to wait for the attack on Pearl Harbor to seize the opportunity to enter the struggle for freedom in 1942. Today, we face a similar situation. Having exhausted the resources of our military — most importantly, the lives of the finest of this nation’s servicemen — in ill-conceived recent wars, the American People are weary of any new military involvement. Yet, all the signs of a crisis that would call for intervention are beginning to be apparent. Most symbolically, the

Russian Duma is likely to pass a law that will require all HIV patients to be fingerprinted. The parallel to the pink triangles that homosexuals were forced to wear under Nazi occupation is obvious. We may as well extend that comparison to the numbers that were tattooed on the arms of concentration camp prisoners. What does the Russian government intend to do with a database of fingerprints of HIV positive individuals who live and visit their country? It can’t be anything good. Just as disconcerting is the report of flyers being distributed in Eastern Europe demanding that all Jews identify themselves. Nothing good can come from that either. As if the recent laws essentially making homosexuality illegal in Russia (if not in fact, then in implication) weren’t enough, we hear reports of the persecution and execution of such individuals by organized thugs with the blessing of the Russian government. This trend is rapidly spreading to other countries surrounding Russia. The message is, “It’s OK to bash gays.” In most of the former Soviet satellite states, there are reports of persecution of LGBT individuals and official laws being passed to discriminate against homosexuals. These things, we are told, are being influenced by the Russian example and by Vladimir Putin himself. Some of the groups that are active in the persecution proudly admit to being neo-Nazis. And so it seems that history has a way of repeating itself. While it is premature to advocate — or even predict — war, it’s wise to learn the lessons of history and to be open to the possibility that it may again come to that. I certainly don’t wish for any kind of military action. But it’s the duty of our government to be prepared for such a possibility. In the meantime, we can put pressure on the Obama Administration to adopt a polity of asylum for all homosexuals who live in areas such as Russia, Crimea, Georgia and the Ukraine — in fact, wherever LGBT individuals may be in danger throughout the world. That, at least, would be a start and may be the thing that allows us to avoid war altogether.

As gay life in the United States rushes toward equality, the gay rights movement may refocus on the global landscape. Other countries treat their LGBTQ population much worse than ours, including Staceyann Chin’s home country, Jamaica. Chin is a spoken-word poet, performing artist, and LGBT rights political activist. She often writes about the struggle of growing up gay in Jamaica (once, even on The Oprah Winfrey Show). Her work is witty, self-mocking, and (most of all) politically charged. She has won numerous awards for her writing and poetry slam performances and will perform tonight at Broward College. 8 p.m. Broward College South Campus Fine Arts

As part of the Reading Queer initiative, Neil de la Flor and Jose VillarPortela will lead a free-form(less) generative workshop on erasure and collage writing techniques. All participants are encouraged to dress as his/her favorite erotica icon, drag king or queen, or simply as his/herself. Participants will be creating visual poems using found erotic texts and arts & crafts supplied by the initiative. In the finale, an orchestral group reading will be lead by a conductor. Jones said in a statement to the publication. “Our brothers have gay relatives and gay friends, and we have long prided ourselves on being an inclusive fraternity that values diversity in all forms.” Dumont said that he did not file a complaint with UCF until the beginning of February because he fell into a depression last year after being dropped from the fraternity. “I had just been removed from a group of people I was very close with,” Dumont told the Sentinel. “Coming forward – I was nervous and even doubtful people would even hear me out.” UCF spokesman Chad Binette announced on Monday that the issue is still under review by the school’s Office of Student Conduct, which looks into complaints brought against student organizations. Binette said the Just Knights Response Team, a group created to aid students who claim to be victims of bias, is “involved in working with the student and the fraternity chapter.” On Tuesday, Dumont said he was set to meet with representatives from the fraternity in an effort to come to a conclusion, though he stated that at this point, he wouldn’t be interested in joining the fraternity. Dumont recently told the publication, “I just don’t feel like it’s a good place for me anymore.”

rlando, FL – A University of Central Florida student has taken to social media to tell readers that a fraternity blocked him from joining due to his sexual orientation. George Dumont, 19, posted a video to YouTube where he and a friend discuss how Dumont was kicked from Beta Theta Pi during the pledging process late last year. He also created a Tumblr titled “Worth Fighting For,” to tell his personal story. The university is currently investigating the complaint, which was filed in February. Leaders of the fraternity said the rejection of Dumont had nothing to do with his sexual orientation. Beta Theta Pi chapters aren’t allowed to discriminate against sexual orientation, and according to a statement from Martin Cobb, a North American spokesman for Beta Theta Pi, the group has investigated Dumont’s claims and found no evidence of dropping Dumont due to his sexual orientation. According to an article in the Orlando Sentinel, at least 7 percent of the fraternity identifies as homosexual or bisexual. Nat Jones, president of the UCF chapter, told the paper that a gay student who pledged at the same time as Dumont made it into the fraternity last fall. “The men of Beta Theta Pi are certainly disappointed by the recent video statement indicating our chapter is intolerant based upon one’s sexual orientation,”

ayTravel.com just listed its top ten picks for Spring break vacations and Ft. Lauderdale is only number ten! I don’t know about you, but it sure feels like Ft. Lauderdale and WilMa area is the most popular, at least judging by the traffic, and the number of out-of-towners at the clubs. And, let’s not forget that the original Spring break movie, “Where the Boys Are” was filmed here, and used the Marlin Beach Hotel as a film site! In its reasons for choosing this area, the web site lists the fact that you “can kick back and chill in flip flops and relax on the blue wave beaches or slip on dancing shoes and bust a move at one of the dozens of gay clubs!” Bust a move?!?!? What is this 1985? They also suggest staying at the W Hotel and B Ocean. What about some of the areas fab gay-owned guest houses and resorts? Oh right, they don’t take out huge ads on the web site. We all know that Fort Lauderdale (and WilMa) is still “where the boys are.” According to GayTravel.com the following (in ascending order) are the places that are better than our hometown for GLBT Spring Break destinations.

Once more the write-up sounds like it was lifted from the tourism department’s brochure, “Picture perfect cliffs of Ko’olau Mountains in the backdrop, pristine ocean waters, excellent food and a lively nightlife. For the best of Honolulu’s accommodations, look no further; Hyatt Regency Waikiki, Sheraton Waikiki, and The Royal Hawaiian!” One of the things I enjoy about traveling is getting to know the locals. One of the best ways to do that is to stay in, shop in and dine at independently operated GLBT owned businesses. We all appreciate that fact that the big corporations are finally recognizing the importance of the GLBT market, but let’s not forget about supporting our own community.

5 TIPS TO GET RID OF BELLY FAT BY TOM BONANTI

f you’re embarrassed by that muffin top or extra jiggle in your trunk, then here are some surefire fat loss tips that you can use right now! No pills, mechanical devices, or starvation diets needed, just a little common sense and old fashioned discipline can work wonders. First of all, know your enemy. Fast food equals junk food, and eating it will make you fat, period! Even if you pass on the super-size burgers, fries and shakes and go for seemingly healthier selections, you are only fooling yourself. A more than occasional trip to the vending machine at work can add up to beaucoup calories and an extra pound or two per week! Cross these enemies off your list and pack your arsenal of freshly home prepared snacks and lunches everyday! Secondly, read the labels when you food shop and check fat content. There are a whopping 9 calories in every gram of fat as opposed to 4 calories in each gram of carbs or protein. Total fat should never exceed 25 percent of total calories. And saturated fat should never make up more than one third of total fat or one tenth of total calories. Here’s another hint: never grocery shop when you’re hungry, your defenses will be more easily worn down by temptation. Thirdly, be a homebody. Clean out your cupboards, make your list of healthy foods and prepare those meals at home. You can never be sure how much fat, grease or other unhealthy stuff you’ll be eating even in the best restaurants. It’s

also easier to control portion size at home and not be tempted by a sinful desert tray. Fourthly, schedule your meals. Never skip or scrimp on breakfast. Whole grains, fresh fruit, light dairy are all good sources to start your engine and keep it running efficiently all day long. Eating smaller meals more frequently – 5 or 6 per day – better fuels the body and reduces fat storage. This approach also bumps up your metabolism and gives your muscles a more steady supply of protein if you are working out. Sure, this takes effort and planning, but so does every worthwhile project in life. Finally, HALT before you act. From now on say, “HALT” before you eat. “H” stands for genuine hunger or habit. If you’re physically hungry, then eat. But often you eat out of habit – stop it now! The remaining letters refer to other wrong reasons for eating: “A” because you are anxious; “L” because you’re lonely or sad; and “T” because you’re tired. Think before you eat and you’ll be surprised by the changes in your shape! • 6 eggs • 1/4 cup mayonnaise • 2 slices bacon • 1 tablespoon finely shredded Cheddar cheese • 1-1/2 teaspoons

Place eggs in a saucepan, and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, and cool. To cool more quickly, rinse eggs under cold running water. Meanwhile, place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Alternatively, wrap bacon in paper towels and cook in the microwave for about 1 minute per slice. Crumble and set aside. Peel the hard-boiled eggs, and cut in half lengthwise. Remove yolks to a small bowl. Mash egg yolks with mayonnaise, crumbled bacon and cheese. Stir in mustard. Fill egg white halves with the yolk mixture and refrigerate until serving. Garnish with fresh chives, a slice of tomato, an olive, or parsley, after all, you are the chef.

oul food is one of my personal favorites pig out on. For obvious reasons, soul food is often called comfort food, and can be traced back to African American culture of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Hot & Soul, a Fort Lauderdale restaurant that serves up “international food with soul,” describes their menu as “globally-minded soul food, including Southern (Cajun/Creole), Asian, Mediterranean, Caribbean and Latin American.” The restaurant also prides itself on the fact that each dish is crafted by hand, from scratch. Hot & Soul also offers a craft beer and wine menu. To start, my companion and I ordered the Scoop & Smile ($7), as well as the Hunk A Meat ($9), per our waitress’s suggestion. For our main courses, we chose the Chicken Adobo ($7.50 half order/$15 full order) and Aunt Dewey’s Gumbo ($9 half order/$18 full order) – both of which are popular items on the menu. The Sccop & Smile was first up; A bowl of curried chickpeas, served with papadum (which is basically a thin wafer-like disc made from dough and lentils or chickpeas). The perfect choice for those looking for a tasty, proteinpacked, healthy appetizer. Though the curried chickpeas were

delicious, the Hunk A Meat took the cake. The country-style meat pate was served with pickles, grainy mustard and an orange marmalade. Pate is hard to pull off, but Hot & Soul’s version was phenomenal. It was probably my favorite plate of the night. The chicken in the Chicken Adobo was actually thighs on the bone, with a soy sauce, vinegar and brown sugar sauce. The dish was topped with bay leaves and peppercorns, and was served atop a bed of jasmine rice. While we aren’t sure who Aunt Dewey is, we’re thankful for her delicious twist: duck and andouille gumbo served with long grain rice. The duck and andouille pairing was so spot on that I didn’t even know about the pairing until after all was said and done. If you’re looking for a savory, flavorful lunch bowl this is a great option as the half portion was plenty! There was absolutely no room for dessert, so of course we ordered the Dark Chocolate, Pistachio and Sea Salt Bark Drizzled with EVOO ($5). It was amazing and worth every single bite of gluttony. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, Hot & Soul is a fantastic local soul restaurant with a number of everchanging options. Did we mention they do brunch on Sundays? Yeah, we’ll definitely be back.

Steve Grand Talks About His Massive Kickstarter Success

nce in a great while, I get the opportunity to talk to someone who is at the beginning of their career and on the path towards a meteoric rise. Gay singer/songwriter Steve Grand is one of those people. I was fortunate enough to speak with him in July 2013 as he was making national headlines for his song and music video “All-American Boy,” which quickly logged more than a million views on YouTube. The song was a sweet, catchy, country-influenced number and it didn’t hurt that Grand not only sang the heck out of it, but was also easy on the eyes. Less than a year later, with a couple more songs and music videos under his belt, Grand launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for his debut album. Grand’s goal, to raise more than $80,000 in one month was met, and exceeded, in one day, when he raised almost $120,000. Now that the fundraising period has ended, Grand’s effort has become the number 3 most-funded music project in Kickstarter history, raising $326,000. Such a feat speaks volumes about his talent and his devoted fan-base, known affectionately as the GrandFam. Grand, who was one of the Out 100 in 2013 and is still as down-to-earth as they come, took a break from his busy day to answer a few questions for us in the spring of 2014. Florida Agenda: Steve, we first spoke to each other in July 2013, around the time that your “All-American Boy” music video had reached a million views on YouTube and you were getting some national media attention. When you look back at the past eight months, what is the one thing that stands out as the most memorable for you? It’s so hard to say just one. There’ve been so many incredible things that have happened. For

one, the continued support of my fans, who I love so much. When I was on my little tour they came out in droves. It was so incredible to meet them at each and every show. I remember a specific show in San Diego that I did. It was at Urban Mo’s and we packed the place. Everyone brought such great energy to the room and there was so much love in the room and this outpouring of support. It felt like a little family. It’s been so great to meet people like that and hear the stories that they’ve shared with me and watching the fan-base grow every single day. I started my Facebook page when my video when up on July 2 (2013) and the day after my birthday (a couple of days ago), it passed over 100,000 “Likes.” The GrandFam, as I love to call them and they love to call themselves, has grown so much. It’s not the number that matters to me, it’s that they’re still the most incredible, loving fans. They’re so positive and supporting of each other. That’s something I’ve been so blessed to witness. Not only are they there to

support the music, but they’re there because they care about each other. Even though you had been working hard at your craft for a number of years, you became a kind of overnight sensation. Do you think you were prepared for all the attention and scrutiny you received? It’s something you can’t prepare for. You can think about it all you want and study it from the outside to a degree, and that might help. But, no, I certainly didn’t expect this. I didn’t expect this to the degree that it’s happened. I take it day by day. I stay focused on all I have to be grateful for, which is really a lot. I get to pursue my dream. I get to wake up every day and do something that I love. For that, I feel so blessed, so humbled. For that, I also feel that honoring the relationship that I have formed with my fans is the most sacred thing to me. In the course of these past few months, did you get to

meet people and go places that you hadn’t previously? I have met some incredible people. Very early on I met Edie Windsor, not too long after the repeal of DOMA. It was amazing. She is a hero and an inspiration to me. At the Out 100 Awards, which I was also a part of last winter, I played there and she spoke. She received the big award and her speech was so moving. She spoke about how before the AIDS crisis, gay men and lesbians were kind of separate; they segregated themselves. But she remarked on the bittersweetness of them coming together, and the fact that it took a crisis to bring them together. I thought there was something beautiful about the way she talked about a community coming together to fight a bigger battle. I’ve also met Mariah Carey and Elton John. I did a show with Lance Bass. He’s an extremely sweet guy. Elton has been my musical hero since I was a little kid. As a big piano rock fan, it was so exciting – he’s my musical hero

Fan-funded albums, such as the one you are raising funds for through a Kickstarter campaign, are all the rage. Why did you decide to go that route? I wanted my fans to be my label. They’ve given me so much support and love. They’ve amazed me every single time with each song

I’ve released. I promised them, from day one when I first started doing these interviews, that I would keep my music and message as pure as possible. I don’t want anything getting in the way of that. I’m staying independent for that reason. It’s meaningful for them to be a part of seeing this album come to fruition and being a part of the reason that this album is come to be, through their support and generosity. I think that’s special for them. Last August, at an event in which you performed in Chicago in advance of your Northalsted Market Days appearance, your family, including your parents and grandmother, were present. What do they think of your meteoric rise? They’re having a great time with it. They’re so happy for me and so proud of me. It’s a beautiful thing. This life has been such a journey in so many ways. One of them is watching my parents do a 180 in many ways in life. Faith and religion

was all tied with what it meant to be a good person. It was part of their culture and where they came from. What they were taught to believe from their faith was that homosexuality was a sin. They can’t help that that was the environment in which they grew up, that that was their world. But, because of me, it’s a testament to a parents’ love that because of their own son, they were able to reexamine these beliefs that they had held for so long. They’re in midlife and I don’t think people appreciate how difficult it is for people at that point in their lives to totally reevaluate their value system. That’s a really big deal. That’s why I say it’s a testament to the power of a parent’s love. That has been one of the most special things about all of this for me.

Were you offered any work outside of music, such as on TV in Glee or in a movie musical? Yes, there have been some offers relating to film and people doing

their own small or big budget projects. People have asked me if I want to act, but right now I just want to focus on my music. My fans know that. You can only take on so much and right now with me launching this Kickstarter (campaign) and new music video. I’m in California and I stepped outside of the studio to do this interview with you, Gregg. You can only stay focused on so many things at once. I’m working hard every day. We really have to get this (album) out for the fans by late May. It’s going to be difficult to do that, but I am determined. Of course, the quality has to come first. I’m doing everything I can to make that this album comes out in a timely manner.

and I got to meet him before a show and give him a hug. He knew who I was and he said he was keeping an eye on me. That was really exciting. I’ve been so many places that I’ve never been before. I didn’t do a lot of traveling growing up with my family. I went very few places. Even after that, when I was in college I didn’t have the money, and after college I certainly didn’t have the money [laughs]. Struggling as a singer/ songwriter and playing at churches just to get through the week. It’s been incredible to be able to go to all of these places all over the country and play and have people show up. People who have been moved by my story or are interested in hearing me live. There’s always so much love and support. It’s something I don’t ever take for granted when I get before an audience.
