Equality Florida and the Trevor Project set to benefit By ALEX VAUGHN As we all have love and giving on our minds at this time of year, it is inspiring to see that in the last week two supporters of the community are giving back in a big way. It was announced that Corbin Fisher had donated $60,000 to Equality Florida and over the weekend it was confirmed that American Idol Runner up, Adam Lambert would be donating the proceeds from a remixed version of his song Aftermath to the Trevor Project. Liberty Media Holdings (LMH), parent company of leading online gay adult content provider, Corbin Fisher (CF), followed up their 2010's record donation to Equality Florida (EQFL) with a second $60,000 donation to the non-profit organization. EQFL, a St. Petersburg-based non-profit, made headlines in 2010, when they

MIAMI – Former WPLG anchorman, Charles Perez has had his discrimination case against the local ABC television affiliate dismissed. Perez claimed that his differences with the Post-Newsweek-owned television station and himself have been settled satisfactorily but did not mention if there was a financial settlement. WPLG fired Perez after he filed a complaint against the station with the Miami-Dade Equal Opportunity Board. At that time, news director Bill Pohovey, who himself is gay, angrily denied Perez’s accusations. Perez recently released his own selfpublished memoir titled, “Confessions of a Gay Anchorman.” Perez contends that after his ordeal with WPLG he needed to tell his story. Shortly after his departure from channel 10, Perez married Miamian Keith Rinehard in Connecticut and together adopted a baby girl, Madeline.H

Barbara Bush Comes Out for Gay Marriage
Rhode Island – Federal probation officers have recommended that reality television star, Richard Hatch be returned to prison for violations of his probation. Hatch, who won season one of the television show, “Survivor” was convicted in 2006 of failing to pay taxes on his $1,000,000 grand prize and was released from prison in 2009 and placed on 3-year supervised release. Conditions of his release were that he filed amended tax returns for the years 2000 and 2001 which he was ordered to do so four years ago. A judge agreed that Hatch was in violation but withheld punishment. Mary McElroy, Hatch’s attorney said he didn’t re-file his taxes because he has an appeal pending in the U.S. Tax Court.H

that the state’s policy that marriage is between a man and a woman and would require that publically-funded programs, laws and regulations that are designed to support families be “carefully scrutinized to ensure that they promote the family.” Brandie Balken, executive director of Equality Utah, said in a written statement that the group is “deeply concerned” about the proposed law. “It could be used to create a filter for public agencies and a way to target laws, services and funding that currently help single Utahns or Utahns with families that differ from Representative Christensen's,” she said. The bill states that a married father and mother and their children are the “fundamental unit of society,” echoing language found in the LDS Church’s “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.” The bill adds, “Marriage and family predate all governments and are supported by and consistent with the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God, the Creator and Supreme Judge of the World, affirmed in the nation’s founding Declaration of Independence.”H

New York – The Human Rights Campaign released a new video in the “New Yorkers for Marriage Equality” campaign featuring Barbara Bush, the daughter of President George W. Bush. In the video she says, “I’m Barbara Bush and I’m a New Yorker for marriage equality. New York is about fairness and equality and everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love. Join us.” “Americans from all walks of life are increasingly supportive of the basic right to equal marriage,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “Barbara Bush’s advocacy shows that equality knows no party label.” The video comes on the heels of two New York polls showing a majority of New Yorkers support marriage equality. A Siena Research Institute Poll earlier this month found 57 percent of New Yorkers support marriage for same-sex couples and another poll last week by Quinnipiac University had support at 56 percent.H

NEW YORK – The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, GLADD, has requested an apology from NBC for a recent skit on “Saturday Night Live” called “Estro-Maxxx”. According to GLAAD, the piece was a mock commercial for estrogen replacement therapy and featured men with facial hair wearing dresses, meant to represent transgender women. “This segment cannot be defended as ‘just a joke’ because there was no ‘joke’ to speak of,” contended GLAAD in a written statement. “The attempted comedy of the skit hinges solely on degrading the lives and experiences of transgender women. Holding people up for ridicule simply on the basis of their identity fuels a dangerous and hurtful climate and puts people in danger, especially given how infrequently the media shines a fair and accurate light on the lives of transgender people.” GLAAD has requested that NBC remove the skit from their Hulu view-on-demand website and any future airings of the show’s episode. Neither NBC/Universal or its parent company, Comcast have responded to the GLAAD request.H

Chick-fil-A boycotted by students across the Country Fort Myers, Fl – Chick-fil-A has come under fire again for its ties to leading anti-gay organisations, this time by students. Earlier this month, students at Indiana University successfully petitioned to drop the chain from being food vendor at the school. Now Florida Gold Coast University, student, Rachad Davis, upon hearing news that a Chick-fil-A has plans to open a location on the school property, has started a Facebook group to put a stop to the move. “We have the right to choose where our money is going. Giving money to an organization that supports anti-gay networks and isn't environmentally conscious is the wrong thing to do. And the more we pay them, the bigger they grow," said Davis. His group now has 200 members and the students behind the group say, “The Student Union is a place where all students should feel safe and welcome. By allowing a company with a history of bigotry and homophobia into our campus, we potentially allow FGCU to place monetary gain above the comfort and safety of the very students who are expected to frequent the Union Building,” The action of the students at FGCU has created a snowball effect that has started to sweep the country as students at the University of North Texas, Texas Tech University Gainesville State College, the University of New Orleans, Indiana University (Bloomington Campus) and Mississippi State University are all launching campaigns, of a similar nature to draw attention to Chick-fil-A’s ties to anti-gay groups. The students vs. Chick-fil-A campaign continues… Check out their Facebook, ‘NO Chick Fil a (sic) at FGCU’H

Brian Neal “Get Fit Challenge” Making a Difference Cancer Survivor Fights Insurance Company on Road to Recovery By BOB KECSKEMETY “It turned my life upside down,” said Douglas Randazzo, 46 of Fort Lauderdale, originally in response to being asked what his first impression was when he found out he had cancer. “I’ve had 20 years of HIV and it never stopped me. This [the cancer] stopped me dead in my tracks.” Randazzo was diagnosed with hip cancer in July 2009 and started treatment that September and has been having to fight his insurance company for coverage for most of that time. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Randazzo graduated in the top 3% of his high school class. He obtained a Bachelors degree in both Spanish and French from Drew University where he graduated from in 1984. He worked in New York’s garment district where he sold women’s clothing and was a member of the Edward R. Murrow theater group. Randazzo met his current boyfriend in March 2009 shortly after he moved to Fort Lauderdale. Like many Americans facing the healthcare crisis in the United States, Randazzo has had to fight his insurance company. He says that his cancer appears to be in remission and that the last time he was tested, his results came out clean. However, his insurance company, based in New York, has denied him retesting. Furthermore, since his insurance company is not based in Florida, any medical treatment he obtains in Florida is considered “out-of-system” and thus not covered as it would be if he obtained treatment up north. “These couple of months have been a nightmare because the healthcare system down here is so bad,” stated Randazzo. Florida, and each state, gets their money from the federal government and then each state distributes the money in their own way according to their own rules. Randazzo said that coming down to Florida was a “rude awakening” when it comes to dealing with insurance companies and it continues that way. Randazzo’s partner, who has asked to remain anonymous, first noticed the ad for the 2011 Brian Neal Fitness Challenge. The Challenge, a 12-week boot camp to a better life, describes itself as the first step in a thousand-mile journey to a happier and healthier lifestyle, started last month. Randazzo said that he and his partner had only known each other a short time before Randazzo’s cancer diagnosis. Both used to be physically fit but Randazzo admits to having put on about 30 pounds over the last few months. “Brian has been a godsend,” said Randazzo who was raised Catholic. “I try to hold on to my belief in God and I
believe in what I call ‘angels along the way’ and Brian is one of those angels. When you look into Brian’s eyes you can see genuine caring.” Though Randazzo admits that he had never been very buff, but used to work out 4 to 5 times a week as it helped out with his HIV. When Randazzo moved down here, he moved into a complex with a workout room where he regularly took advantage of the facilities and equipment. Eventually he started to feel a pain and thought that he had been overdoing his workout. Over a period of time, the pain increased and his left leg and hip went out as he collapsed in pain. He went to the hospital emergency room and that’s when he was diagnosed with cancer. Randazzo described his cancer treatments as being very difficult and painful mostly because of the underlying location of cancer. One of his New York doctors recommended an associate of his in Florida who is working through Randazzo’s insurance company up north. The main objective was to first get rid of the cancer but the side effects, such as the pain, will last up to seven years. He was eventually led to an acupuncturist to help with the pain and these treatments have helped immensely and helped get him back on his feet. When Randazzo first met with Brian Neal, “he listened and was very compassionate,” said Randazzo. “I had some reservations about doing the program because I felt like my body was betraying me. I used to like to run and I couldn’t even do that anymore. I didn’t want to make matters worse.” Neal assured Randazzo that he will be able to work at his own pace and at different levels. At times, according to Randazzo, Neal would pull him off to the side when he felt that the group would do something that may be risky to Randazzo’s hip and have him do something else. “As I’m getting older, it’s certainly not healthy to be as out of shape as I was. I didn’t realize that during the two years I’ve been away from the gym I would have lost so much stamina, and the extra weight I had gained certainly didn’t help.” Randazzo is also grateful to Island City Health and Fitness in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors for donating their space and staff to the participants of the Brian Neal Fitness Challenge. He realizes that, especially during these hard economic times that a commercial business should care so much about giving back to the community and helping with this lifechanging opportunity. “I’m much better now,” said Randazzo, “though I’m still not 100-percent. Brian opened the door for me. I do believe that things happen for a reason and God himself led me to Brian who I feel took a personal interest in me. I’m trying to get my life back in order and working with Brian has been a giant step and I’ll always be grateful to him for that.”H

Benefitting non-profits in a big way NON-PROFITS continued from Page 1 Floridians who believe in the values of equality and justice." While Corbin Fisher's production offices recently moved from Florida to Las Vegas, the company remains a staunch supporter of the work EQFL does. "We feel their efforts are crucial in leading the fight for equal rights. Much of the country looks to the legal battles in Florida as precedent-setting," said Marc Randazza, general counsel for Corbin Fisher. Corbin Fisher CEO Jason Gibson said, "The legal battles for equality are never over and can be tremendously expensive. As a company, we donate lump sums to help defray EQFL's costs, but we also hope to inspire everyone to donate time and support to EQFL and other local organizations fighting for justice for all gay, lesbian, bi and transgender people." Corbin Fisher employees themselves are encouraged to donate time and money to charitable organizations through a matchingfunds policy and paid time off for volunteer work for accredited groups. Corbin Fisher last year received the Free Speech Coalition Award of Excellence. 2010 also saw the company make news as it spearheaded anti-piracy efforts in the adult entertainment industry. Corbin Fisher has been nominated for two XBiz Awards this year, Web Company of the Year and Gay Site of the Year. Adam Lambert came to our attention in the eighth season of American Idol and came out publically in Rolling Stone after being crowned the runner up. The Times pinpointed the fact that Lambert was one of the few openly gay mainstream pop artists to launch a successful career on a major label in the United States. The multi-platinum selling artist has been a big supporter of The Trevor Project, the California-based non-profit that runs the nation's only 24-hour confidential suicide hotline for gay and questioning youth. In October he released a video for the It Gets Better campaign, in
which he told troubled gay teens to stay strong and proud. The It Gets Better Project is a collection of videos urging troubled LGBT teens to hang in there, because life gets better and raises awareness and funds for The Trevor Project. The national organisations’ mission statement is clear: ‘The Trevor Project is determined to end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth by providing life-saving and life-affirming resources including our nationwide, 24/7 crisis intervention lifeline, digital community and advocacy/educational programs that create a safe, supportive and positive environment for everyone.’ Word about the remix first came out when Adam’s friend Markus Molinari posted on his blog the day after Adam’s 29th birthday party: “Adam introduced a new version of his song Aftermath that he co-wrote with Ferras, Alisan Porter, Ely Rise. Adam went on to say a portion of the remixed tune would go to The Trevor Project. Adam has been a vocal supporter of this charity that speaks out against gay bullying.” The 29 year old Grammy Nominee tweeted on Thursday, “Releasing a revamped version of AFTERMATH,” to his more than 850,000 followers. “Proceeds to benefit The Trevor Project. Wait till you hear it – it's now a hot pop dance anthem.” “No set release date,” he added. “Putting finishing touches on the track. Stay tuned ...” If you would like to get involved and to give back to either of these crucial nonprofit organisations please check out the details below.

Valentine’s Day Tips: Valentine’s Day top 10 Romantic tips & Safe guards to ensure Valentine’s is perfect for you and your partner 1. Take your loved one on a replica of your first date. 2. Don’t go straight for the obvious. This is a holiday to show your partner you know and love them; don’t give them chocolates if they are off carbs or flowers if they are allergic or the worst – jewellery if they don’t even wear watch! 3.
Leave little love post it notes over the house for them to find, in the bathroom, on the coffee filter and on their windscreen. Use pet names or just tell them why you love them.

and can’t believe they chose you? Or, as is so often the case that feeling you get in your throat when you see that the partner you once had has moved on? Either way I believe and hope you do in that old saying; ‘it is better to have loved and lost then to have not loved at all.’ With that in mind, and whilst I wrote this column I started wondering about the nuances of relationships here in Florida. After speaking with many people here, there seems to be a lot of animosity towards the idea of even the possibility of achieving and or maintaining a loving relationship. Is that a reality or do we just comfort ourselves with that as an excuse? My opinion is it’s a bit of both. We are all afraid of love and of commitment in one way or another, and when we complain about there not being the same minded people out there perhaps we should look closer to home and see what we are putting out there. A hook up on from a dating site is not likely to make a relationship; neither is taking someone home from the bar on the first night. This valentine’s day, do something different if you are single. Make a date. Arrange a dinner or cocktails and when you have finished and have that warm feeling of a connection, kiss goodnight and go home alone. Try it the old fashioned way, get to know someone first, find out what they value and see if it matches your value sets. It can’t hurt can it? If you have a lost love, leave them lost, if it was meant to be they will find you, but don’t let that hold you back from moving on. Let’s mend hearts in 2011 not break them.H

It’s a treasure trail and the treasure is you. 8. Get them a gift they wouldn’t get themselves. It shows you know what they need. E.g. a set of wine glasses if they drink wine out of a cup. Or a smart drink stirrer if they always mix drinks with the back end of a knife! 9. Go away for the night; there are plenty of amazing hotels in Florida or places to visit. Take the night and go to a hotel and be on vacation for the one night. 10. MY Favourite which I did once, is arrange to meet your partner at a bar and pretend you don’t know each other, either role play with your fantasy characters or just have a first date without the pressure.H

Who Knew? By SAM KNEW, MSW Nearly 20 years ago the Reality © Female Condom (FC) gave way to a whole new response to the question of responsibility and empowerment regarding who wears the “pants” in a relationship. The FC is a loose-fitting, pre-lubricated, polyurethane pouch intended to fit into the vagina. The FC changed the rules of the game, giving women (initially) a better way of taking control of an intimate experience. Inevitably, much in the likes of the Lifetime channel, Designing Women and handbags (i.e. the murse) – the gays have followed suit; using the sexual barrier devise as a means for safe anal sex. Although not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for anal use, the female condom has been gaining more and more popularity among gay men, as well as anyone one who engages in anal sex. The fact that the device is made of polyurethane means it will adjust to body temperature, so both you and your partner can feel each other’s body heat. Another added advantage is that the recipient (bottom) can place the device in place hours
before hand and not have to interrupt foreplay placing in the devise or negotiating safe sex practices with their partner – allowing the recipients to take control of the situation and their own health. However, there are some critics to this device. First and foremost, there has been little research done on whether or not the FC is an effective means to prevent the spread of Sexual Transmitted Infections (STI) when used anally. The International Rectal Microbicide Advocates (IRMA) is one of organization that had conducted initial studies. It summarized a study done on 100 men who have sex with men using the female condom. It reported: Generally what most participants liked about Reality (FC) were its heightened sensitivity and spontaneity, while insertion difficulties and high cost were the factors least liked. Acceptability was higher among men who were HIV-positive, in nonmonogamous relationships, or who had serodiscordant sex partners. Negative experiences included difficulty inserting (33%), irritation (17%), bunching up (12%), unpleasant texture (10%), and noise (9%). Breakage was reported 3 times in 334

The Female Condom – Changing the rules of the game episodes of use. It should also be noted that the lack of scientific research has not prevented many healthy counselors and State Health Departments from encouraging its use for anal sex, to prevent the spread of STIs.
As one health advocate put it in a recent issue of the Washington City, “Even though we do know it can be effective, that’s not something that we can really state yet.” In addition, the DC Department
of Health has placed instructions of how to use the devise anally online. The instructions include a popular practice of removing the inner ring that the device comes with (which is optional, and widely recommended for anal use). The FC shares many of the same risks of traditional condoms, including breakage and skin irritation. One unique disadvantage to the FC includes the possible noise when using the devise; lubricant is suggested to reduce any sounds. A unique advantage of the devise is the comfort and pleasure it provides men who are uncircumcised or have a non-traditional shaped penis in terms of size and shape. The FC is less constricting, does not force the foreskin back over the head of the penis and does not have to fit the penis itself. Needless to say more studies are needed. One representative for the Female Health Company, the producers of the FC, adds it may be years until we see the FDA approve a Class III, insertable condom for anal sex. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait; female condoms are available in most convenient stores and adult stores. The only thing you have to do is take control and use it.H

Bed Death: A Valentine’s Day Resurrection By ARLEN KEITH LEIGHT, PH.D., LLC Valentine's Day is supposed to be about roses and romance, dining and dancing, sensuality and sex. It is unrealized expectations that create a sense of loss and the realization that "my relationship is not what I really want it to be". The hype around Valentine's Day magnifies the emptiness and heightens the desire to have a more complete and fulfilling partnership. The result is often separation and moving on. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe we got involved with someone who was perfect for us when we met, but we have a different world view now. Or, perhaps, the man or women we once knew to be warm and generous is now cold, indifferent or abusive. Often the person who used to bring out the best in us now brings out the worst.

Sometimes it is best to leave behind a relationship that is not working. Then there are times when everything is working quite well, but the sexual connection is just not what it used to be or what it could be. It is true that the hot sex you had when you first met will never be hot in the same way, but that does not necessarily mean it cannot be passionate, new, different and fun. It always starts with communication. Talk about what's going onor what's not going on. Let your partner know something is not working for you. It doesn't get easier with time, so don't put it off. Let your love for one another guide the conversation and not some resentment or hurt. It is important to express feelings without assessing blame. Talk about how TOGETHER you can make your sex life work for you. The old idea of planning a date is a good idea. Do something you really enjoy doing together. It doesn't have to be going out for dinner. Take a walk on the beach, that bike ride you've been meaning to take together or a long drive to a place that has special meaning.
Set the tone for coming home to shower together, candlelight, and music. Shut off those cell phones, unplug the phone at home, and make each other your only focus of interest for the day or evening. Ask yourself if your work or other interests are more important than the connection with your partner. What does it mean to you if the answer is "yes"? Often times our relationships have become so nice, the bed we share feels too sacred or just too boring for some hot, passionate l ove m a k i n g . Plan to go separately and meet at some sleazy hotel. Live out a fantasy. Bring some toys. TALK about what might be fun. Try something you've always wanted to do sexually but were afraid to ask. Step out of your comfort zone. Free yourself from the usual-after all, that's just not working. Find ways to break the rules. Use pornography or create it. Bring a video camera. Be a porn star for an evening. Talk dirty, breath hard, scream loud. Remember what HOT sex was like. Recreate it with your partner. Make out in public. Take it to the

beach or into the woods. Try phone sex with your partner. What about leather and/or lace? Don't be shy; tell your partner what turns you on. Whips? Chains? Restraints? Why waste a good fetish by keeping it to yourself ? Visit the local leather/fetish shop together and find some items that might be fun for one or both of you. There is also the possibility of bringing a third person in to play with you. This option can be very exciting and often works well to reenergize a sexual relationship. However, because of the many issues and challenges that can arise, be certain you have formulated parameters around how it will work, and that includes safe sex. Finally, there are many couples who love each other deeply, but there seem to be too many barriers and/or obstacles to reigniting sexual passion. If it is OK with both partners to agree that the sexual part of their relationship is simply a part of the past, there is nothing wrong or bad about that. However, if one or both would like something more, there are workable steps that can be taken under the supervision of a trained clinical sexologist that may help. Any couple feeling dissatisfied with any aspect of their relationship that they can't seem to work out themselves should seriously consider asking for professional help. What is more important than a healthy and strong loving partnership? And what could be better than a healthy, strong loving partnership with good, fun, passionate sex? Happy Valentine's Day! H

Omelette By JEAN DOHERTY/LE PATIO The omelette is thought to have originated in the ancient near-east. Beaten eggs were mixed with chopped herbs, fried until firm, and then sliced into wedges. This dish is thought to have travelled to Western Europe via the Middle East and North Africa, with each country adapting the original recipe to produce the Italian frittata, Spanish tortilla and the French omelette. According to legend, when Napoleon Bonaparte and his army were traveling through southern France, they decided to rest for the night near the town of Bessières. Napoleon feasted on an omelette prepared by a local innkeeper that was such a culinary delight that he ordered the townspeople to gather all the eggs in the village and to prepare a huge omelette for his army the next day. The doctor of Louis XIII, wrote in his diary “often, in the afternoon, the young prince feels very hungry, so my dear wife prepares a small dish of ‘oeufs-meslette’for him (old French for ‘oeufs mélés’ literally translated in English as ‘mixed/scrambled eggs’)”. In other words, this diary would be the starting point of one of the origins of the word ‘omelette’. Omelettes should always be cooked in a nonstick sauté pan. Also, you should always use a heat-resistant rubber spatula. Use 2 to 3 eggs per person.
INGREDIENTS – 2 eggs 2 Tbsp. whole milk 2 Tbsp clarified butter or whole butter (or olive oil ) Salt and ground white pepper, to taste
1. Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl and beat them until they turn a pale yellow color. 2. Heat a heavy-bottomed nonstick sauté pan over medium-low heat. Add the butter and let it melt. 3. Add the milk to the eggs and season to taste with salt and white pepper. Then, grab your whisk and whisk like mad. You're going to work up a sweat here!! If you're not up for that, you can use an electric beater. Whatever device you use, you’re trying to beat as much air as possible into the eggs. 4. When the butter or oil in the pan is hot enough, pour in the eggs. Don't stir! Let the eggs cook for up to a minute or until the bottom starts to set. 5. With a heat-resistant rubber spatula, gently push one edge of the egg into the center of the pan, while tilting the pan to allow the still liquid egg to flow in underneath. Repeat with the other edges, until there’s no liquid left. 6. Your eggs should now be a bright yellow pancake, which should easily slide around on the nonstick surface. If it sticks at all, loosen it with your spatula. 7. If you’re adding any other ingredients, now's the time to do it. Spoon your filling over one side of the omelette. Now gently flip the egg pancake half over, using your spatula. Cook for another few seconds, or until there is no uncooked egg left. Personally I like mine a little runny in the middle, so, as I always say “you are the chef.” There’s no limit to the number of fillings you can use with this basic omelet recipe.H

Traditional Favorites Delight
Courtesy, The Wine Cellar
Make yourself at home at The Wine Cellar. BY TIM SLIVINKI Current food trends suggest that diners are moving to fresher, farm quality ingredients. Organic is a new buzz word to entice people to healthier eating habits. Styles of cuisine are in one month and then quickly out again the next. Keeping up with it all can be enough to make you dizzy. Sometimes we just want those traditional, homey comfort foods that we grew up with that remind of us of traditional Sunday dinner with the grandparents. Thank goodness for restaurants like the Wine Cellar. It will take you back to those days long ago when we just enjoyed the deliciousness of the traditional foods of our childhoods. And if you are of Eastern or Central European background, then the menu items at the Wine Cellar are sure to get you talking about those suppers that mom or grandma used to cook with love and affection. Speaking of which, the restaurant’s dining room is cozy and inviting, just like grandma’s table. After being seated I was greeted with a complimentary potato pancake, or latke, with applesauce and sour cream accompaniment. I already knew from the start I would enjoy this place. The pancake was crisp on the outside, warm and moist on the inside. Perfection! I could have made a dinner of an entire plate of this traditional delicacy. Next, our server suggested that I try the Wine Cellar’s celebrated escargot. Full disclosure here: I am not generally an escargot fan, but I was persuaded. I was treated to a wonderful, aromatic, and generous, crock of snails and mushrooms in a sinful garlic butter sauce. Could this really be escargot? It was, and I loved it. It’s easy to understand why it is a featured item. Being a chilly evening, I opted for soup over salad as it sounded just right after braving the breezy, brisk outdoors. The lobster bisque was a more than ample portion of creamy deliciousness, tasting rich and yet not overly thick or cloying as some bisques can be. I am ashamed to admit that I gladly consumed every spoonful. Next was the real challenge—deciding upon an entrée. I always have a difficult time saying no to Wienerschnitzel when it’s on the menu; it’s a traditional
favorite that I sometimes crave—but not tonight. Instead, I was encouraged to try the Rahmschnitzel once my gracious server discovered I love mushrooms. Once it was served, I knew that I had been steered in the right direction. Two fork-tender cutlets were topped in a white wine cream sauce with hearty chunks of portabella mushrooms, not the overly sliced and diced variety. Each entrée comes with a choice of two accompaniments. I opted for traditional German spaetzle and sweet and sour red cabbage. The cabbage was just spicy enough to offer great contrast to the cutlet. The spaetzle, small traditional German dumplings, were perfect with the sauce that was served with the schnitzel. This was a plate that would make any Mom or grandmother smile. Traditional cuisine done as it should be: flavorful, filling, and homey. As I was dining I also had the opportunity to taste one of the featured items that night: a roasted pork shank. This was truly an entrée to be admired as well as consumed. Beautifully browned, the meat was fall off the bone tender. It had all the aroma and flavors that filled the house on Sunday afternoons. If it’s on the menu, order it as it is a satisfying and beautiful preparation. Quite honestly, I was stuffed, but I did have the opportunity to sample two of the Wine Cellar’s homemade desserts. The Apple Strudel took me back to my childhood. Flaky pastry, tender apples, notes of cinnamon—it was everything strudel should be. The German chocolate cake was another winner. Moist and flavorful with a frosting neither too heavy nor too light, it is easily enough to share. A bonus feature with dinner on Friday nights at 7:00 p.m. is a performance by the wonderful Electra. She vamps around the dining room in her inimitable style that is guaranteed to make you laugh. But be careful as she just might pull you and your entire table into the act, which, of course, is part of the fun. Electra sets the tone for a fun night out, and isn’t that one of the main reasons we go out? H

The Best of Bangkok Southeast Asia’s most illustrious ambassador By PAUL RUBIO On the upper lines of the world’s greatest bucket lists, few destinations garner the unanimous esteem of Southeast Asia’s most illustrious ambassador, Bangkok. The East’s seductive temptress has charmed all who’ve met her and left them wanting more. The main artery of Bangkok, the Chao Phraya River, glistens with the gold sparkle of historic royal temples, unveiling a fast-flowing reflection pond in this frenetic bastion of spirituality. The streets teem with an urban pulse, a splendidly delightful chaos that rages on 24 hours a day. The sights, smells, tastes and sounds of Bangkok awaken and enlighten the senses with vast, foreign offerings. In recent times, modern architects and designers have made the city their muse, constructing funky rooftop bars above the clouds, and rivaling the contemporary vanguard exteriors with artsy and edgy interiors. Indeed, hotels like the skyscraping, minimalist chic Metropolitan Bangkok (+66 (2) 625 3333, www.metropolitan .bangkok.como.bz) have transformed the city landscape. Nevertheless, it’s the city’s classic landmarks that engender the most unabashed global reverence. pampering, Bangkok is also famous for its irresistible cuisine and awesome gay nightlife. Far off the beaten path, Café Ice (www.cafeicethailand.com) triples as a restaurant, art studio, and a functioning home for the mastermind chef, “Ice.” An exceptional combo of French and Thai food, Cafe Ice is a gastronomic tour de force in an innovative, intimate setting. After dinnertime, Silom Soi 2 and Silom Soi 4 teem with dozens of bars, clubs, and pubs, balancing a fair mix of frisky Thai guys and party-going foreigners. With most of the fun happening on the street, it’s hard to miss out on the early evening action. Come late night, gay life converges at DJ Station (www.dj-station.com) for the world famous shows of Bangkok’s remarkable gender illusionists. The queens of DJ station take to the stage at 11:30pm nightly, re-defining Christian Serriano’s term, “Tranny fierce!” The outrageous costumes, predictable choreography, high energy, uncanny female semblance, and the performers’ ability to “lip-synch for [their] lives” without understanding a single word is priceless!

Cupid, Please Take Your Aim at Me! Phil Henricks Talks Valentine’s & Dating—Online. By TROY MAILLIS
buddy sounds really good right now, so they’re out husband hunting!
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and Cupid is taking aim. So what is it that you are looking for this year? Love? Hot sex? A new relationship? Prince charming to come sweep you off your feet? Unfortunately, we don’t live in a fairytale and this is not a Taylor Swift song. Finding love, or even a date, in the gay community can be as challenging as convincing Helena Bonham Carter to dress like a princess come Oscar night. Being single on Valentine’s Day can either be a blessing or a curse. Will you celebrate this day of love by loving yourself, or will you go off the deep end and drink yourself into oblivion? Finding love— or sex for that matter—online is nothing new in our world. You get to pick and choose who you want to talk to and who you ultimately want to meet up with. You are the conductor of your own private symphony of lust and abandon. Phil Henricks, Head Of North American Market, Gaydar.net, recently opened up to Florida Agenda about Valentine’s Day, online dating and the future of finding that someone special in the viral world. Hey, Cupid’s arrow may only be one click away. AGENDA: Does traffic and membership generally increase around Valentine’s Day? If so, how much? PHIL: The beginning of the year is always crazy busy. After 10 years in this business, I can tell you January is always the busiest month for a lot of reasons. New Year’s resolutions (out with the old, in with the new…boys), guys rebounding from holiday blues, the winter blahs and of course, Valentine’s Day right on the horizon. All these things add up to guys getting a bit more serious about romance. More “LTR,” than “NSA.” For a lot of guys, especially up north, a snuggle

How do you think Valentine’s Day differs for gay couples and straight couples? Not much, really, if we’re honest. Everyone loves a Valentine’s Day card, extra attention, a sweet date and a nice box—of chocolates. Even the most “masc jock” has a soft spot for romance. That said, I don’t think gay couples–in general because frankly, like straight guys, we’re men–take it as seriously as the ladies do. Girls get crazy, whereas guys are pretty low-key or even forget. At least until they get home. Why do you think so many gay men look for love and/or companionship online as opposed to finding it in public? We’re busy. Whether you’ve got a corporate gig, are a personal trainer or waiter, everyone’s strapped for time. A great number of us, regardless of our profession, are online the greater part of a day, so it’s easy to just hop online, sniff around and weed through your likes and dislikes–your preferences–online. It’s also a godsend for guys who are too busy or live in remote areas, as they now have a shot a meeting their true love, in ways they never could before online dating. But once you’ve met that nice guy, it’s all about downshifting from the instant gratification of the internet to the real-time work and patience of dating. How much has online dating increased over the last decade and what does the future hold? Ten years ago online dating was virtually taboo, the wild west of dating. Now, it’s totally respectable and expected. If you meet someone who doesn't have at least one profile on a dating or social network site you wonder what’s up, what’s he hiding? As far as the future goes, it’s all about mobile. We’re no longer chained to a laptop, thanks to devices like iPhones and iPads, both of which support our spanking new Gaydar App (plug, plug), which will be available for the Android this Spring. Do you or have you personally used gay online dating sites to meet “the one”? I have memberships on several sites and have met some of my closest friends, best “dates” and a few exes— all online. It works for me on a lot of levels, and I think this is true for a lot of guys. Do you think online memberships are leaning more towards
legitimate dating instead of just hooking up? Or will online dating always carry a stigma of trolling for sex? I think guys who think online dating is purely for hook-ups haven’t spent enough time checking out the variety of dating sites available to them. There are a variety of sites out there covering the spectrum from frisky “drop ‘em!” “NSA” play, to serious “I want the ring!” Gaydar offers both. Guys who dismiss online dating sites as hook-up sites are as much of a throwback as guys who used to resort to cruising dirty bookstores. As Flannery O'Connor famously said, “A good man is hard to find,” and as Mae West retorted, “"A hard man is good to find”—but ya gotta look!
from Boston that met on Gaydar and got married.
Is gayday.net HIV-positive friendly? Do you think there need to me more online dating sites for HIVpositive men to meet others? Gaydar is very HIV-positive friendly as are most sites. Gaydar handles the HIV+/HIV-/Safe Sex issue somewhat differently than other sites. We don't ask users to state whether he is HIV+ or HIV-. Instead, we have a Safe Sex pull-down tab on our profile pages from which guys can select “Always,” “Sometimes,” “Never,” or “Needs Discussion.” At the end of the day, when you consider issues like frequency of HIV testing, the 3-month window of abstinence to be sure the results are accurate and drug use, the real issue is do you engage in safe sex or not? The choice is yours. HIV-/HIV+ or HIV+/HIV+, with 6,000,000 members, chances are you’ll find a compatible sex partner. And when you do meet, look each other in the eye, put down the cocktail and talk about it: Get comfortable with each other as men, not bodies, even if it’s just a “NSA” fling. No post-orgasmic remorse!
What makes Gaydar.net different or more appealing than other gaymember sites? Well, 6,000,000 members worldwide for starters, as we like to say, “lots of fresh faces from around the world and around the corner." As an international site, it’s not only great for guys looking for local dates, but also for guys planning a trip. Hit the travel button, enter your travel plans and arrange to have a friendly face greet you on your arrival! Gaydar profiles are very flexible and allow members to truly express who they are and what they’re looking for, plus upload up to 26 photos and even videos. Strut your stuff, display some wit, be honest, nice and for God’s sake, smile! We really try to make it as easy to be yourself, because that's the key to dating success. Additionally, our App is fully integrated with its host website, allowing App and web users the exact same access to its profiles and options— pretty cool and convenient. No parallel profiles! We’re in the process of giving the website an extreme makeover, which will be ready for the big reveal this Spring. Finally, the first month is free full access, so for those lonely hearts out there, time to jump on Gaydar and find your honey. Or, er, stud! H
Have any couples written in to thank gaydar.net for getting them together? Yes, we get many emails from happy couples around the world. We even have a photo in the office of a couple
What are some elements of a profile that would render it unapproved? Oh brother! We’re pretty relaxed, but we do have a list. Here ya go, straight (ish) from the approval room: Pedophilia, bestiality, necrophilia, kiddy porn, violence, mutilation, police uniforms, weapons (guns, knives, AK47s, grenade launchers), drugs—basically, all the fun stuff— plus, celebrity photos not posted by the celebrity himself (hello Boy George!) and then, of course, boring practical things like copyrighted material, links to other dating sites and photos containing contact details.

Love songs By TROY LEFFERSON Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day, courtesy of some of our favorite ladies of the dance floor. It’s not the sweet, candycovered romantic love these girls are singing about. Taking their cue from gay boys who look for love in all the wrong places ─ you know who you are ─ these girls shoot their arrows past the Mr. Rights that treat lovers well. Instead, their songs take aim at the Mr. Wrongs that treat them oh so good.
Emii – “Mr. Romeo”
ding romances. “When you’re young, you feel you need to give all of your self and soul into a relationship,” says Kelli. “But most relationships are bound to end – and oftentimes badly. “It’s important that people embrace who they are before trying to get someone else to love you,” she continues. “It’s so silly to live for a guy or a girl who in the end, you’ll likely realize is not worth the time or tears.”
SARIAH – “All about Sex”
Emii would do well on Manhunt or Grindr. For her, romance is not about landing the guy; it's about taking off, flying high, and enjoying the ride. She sings about it in her explosive new song, “Mr. Romeo”, a high powered dance romp that features one of the original partiers of hip hop, Snoop Dog. “I am no Juliet,” she confirms. “I am strong hearted, fierce, and independent.” About finding her own Romeo this Valentine’s Day, Emii says, “When the love is right, maybe it will last until death and beyond, but I’m not hanging on unless it's right.” She’s also not looking for the fairy-tale. She prefers her guys rough, tough and a little bit dangerous. “Let's just say I have someone in mind when I sing, ‘Come here and bite me like an animal.’”
KELLI – “Gave Up on Love” For a girl who presented herself as independent and in control on the hit Bravo reality show, “NYC Prep”, Kelli admits deep down she is full of contradictions and is extremely sensitive. “I can be guarded and maybe a little over-protective when it comes to relationships,” she says. “I believe maintaining strength requires a strong offense and an even stronger defense.” She sings about the protective walls she has built in her debut single, “Gave Up on Love”, a song she co-wrote that sheds light on the intensity of bud-
“I found my ‘All about Sex’ man on the dance floor,” laughs Sariah, the Queen of Hearts, whose sophomore single about nostrings attached romances releases in time for Valentines Day. “I loved that everything was crystal clear. We both knew what we were there for and there was no baggage.” Inevitably, however, the guy began inquiring about Sariah’s life outside of their arrangement. “That’s when things got tricky. We began to think there might be something more to us so we made an effort to see each other outside of the bed. Our conventional relationship became confusing and worse, it lost the intrigue. Soon after that, I stopped returning his text messages.” “Just goes to show ya, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” concludes Sariah. “A purely sexual relationship can be satisfying.” And it can inspire a great single, too. “All about Sex” is on dancefloors now.H

Strong Arm Tactics g Traininfic Terri ps Trice
BY TOM BONANTI
It’s fun to train biceps (the front of your upper arms) as you watch them bulging and pumping in the mirror. But your triceps (the back of your upper arms) demand even more attention in the gym and having terrific tri’s will set you above the rest! Triceps make up two-thirds of your upper arm, therefore it is logical that the bigger and more defined these babies are, the more massive your arms will look. The triceps are responsible for the movement of extension of the elbow and produce motion of the forearm. Because of their larger size you need to work tri’s a little longer and harder than biceps. Hit triceps once a week using 3-4 exercises of 3-4 sets of 8-12 repetitions for maintenance. Work them at least twice per week using the same formula to build them, especially if the are lagging behind your show-off biceps. Use free weights for triceps to give you a better range of motion and to produce a fuller muscle. Always make sure you get a good stretch for tri’s especially as
you conclude the workout. Stretching helps bring out the separations and detail in the muscle. Here are some dynamite exercises that will leave your triceps feeling pumped after only a few sessions: Whenever you are working a muscle group, always include at least one exercise that will take the muscle group through its full range of motion. Closegrip bench presses will do this for triceps. Lie face up on a flat bench, feet firmly planted on the floor. Take a barbell or E Z curl bar from the rack. Use a narrow grip so that your hands are only 2-3 inches apart. Keeping your elbows close to your body, lower the weight to your lower sternum, and immediately push upwards. Always begin with a light warm-up set. Triceps extensions are a classic. Start this exercise by holding a lat machine bar with your hands 2-8 inches apart. Now press downwards from your chin until your arms are straight. Return and repeat. Most bodybuilders keep their elbows tucked in at their sides during this movement. A few, deliberately hold the elbows out to the sides and lean into the exercise. The choice is yours. This exercise can also be performed with a

rope instead of a straight bar or lat machine bar. Bent-over triceps kick backs are great for isolating each of the triceps. Hold a dumbbell in one hand and hold on to a rack or bench with the other hand. Raise and lower (kick back) the dumbbell at an even rate, keeping the upper arm in line with your torso and parallel to the floor. Keep your upper arm tight against your waist throughout. Be careful not to over use your wrist as you kick the weight back and extend the elbow. Lying triceps extensions or “skull crushers” as they sometimes call them are killers. Lie on your back on a flat bench and hold a barbell or E Z curl bar at arms length above you. Lower it slowly to the forehead and raise the bar
again to arm’s length. During your workouts do not waste time. When you’re working triceps or any muscle group remember to stretch and move around between sets. When you finish a set of triceps extensions, for example, walk briskly around the area and stretch each of your triceps over your head thoroughly, then do a set of off the bench dips before moving on to dumbbell kick-backs.
