Bill’s and Georgie’s ALIBI: (Where Everyone Knows Your Name)
F
or some, life can seem like a rollercoaster ride. Others compare their experiences to different carnival attractions. “I served in that Merry-Go-Round called the hospitality industry for more than 25 years,” recalls Jackson Padgett, co-owner—with his life Dance floor at Bill’s and business partner, Mark Negrete—of Georgie’s Alibi and Bill’s Filling Station, both in Wilton Manors. As to his most lasting achievement (prior to laying down stakes in the Gayborhood) Padgett points to a familiar South Florida landmark. “I loved helping to build and establish the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino,” he says. “That was truly one of those things that may only happen once in your life, what I would have to say was the crowning of my career.” “After Mark and I met, I decided it was time to leave corporate America. We wanted something that we could do together, have a couple of drinks, and then go home, prepare dinner, and let the staff do the work until it was time to lock the door at 2 a.m.,” Padgett recalls, then pauses before adding, “Let’s put it this way, if anyone ever comes up to you and asks if you’d like to buy a bar—RUN in the opposite direction.” He lets loose with a hearty laugh. “We purchased Bill’s Filling Station—the original by the railroad tracks [on Northeast 13th Street in Fort Lauderdale]—and we truly did have a blast there,” says Negrete. “But we also knew that we were off the beaten track, and the building really needed upgrading, so we began the search for a new location.” Their search took them to the heart of the Gayborhood, Wilton Drive. “Chardee’s dinner

club had recently closed, so we called Tony Dee,” recalls Negrete. “We inked the deal and started the renovations to transform the former dinner club into our vision. We renamed the piano bar the ‘Mustang Lounge,’ and we still have the baby grand piano there. Each week, we have a great team [Andy Fiacco and Ric Ducosin] host our Karaoke night, and we are consistently packed,” he adds, smiling. Not long after, the couple acquired nearby Georgie’s Alibi, a Wilton Manors staple located right across the Drive, in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors. “We work hard to make people feel welcome,” Padgett says. “We have strived to make people feel at home, and without sounding cliché, we want to be where everyone knows your name, that is the bottom line: If people are happy and have a great time.” Negrete says that Georgie’s Alibi along with great service, they add to the mix great entertainment, including their house VJ’s Barry Browder and Robert Frye, and performers like Nikki Adams, Dame Edna, and (when she’s in town) Cashetta. “An absolute winning combination,” Padgett calls it. “We are in the process of expanding the Manchester Room, taking part of the former Bottoms and Tops [retail location], which will make that side of the bar explode. Couple that with award-winning Chef Ron and our catering division—we are very proud of the Alibi,” he adds with a contented smile. Wilton Wings Waiting in the “Wings” (One Delicious Drumette at a Time)
R
ick Dion is no stranger to the hospitality arena. The owner of Wilton Wings—on Northeast 4th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, just on the outskirts of the Gayborhood—Dion worked at the Las Olas Café for almost a decade. When it came time to renew the lease, owner Paula Pace instead decided to open the Mason Jar on North Federal Highway. “I chose to move along with Paula, because we had a great working relationship. I worked with Chef Ernesto Rand, who was the chef at Las Olas Café, for over 10 years. As a matter of fact, “Chef” is our chef at Wilton Wings.” Really? A wings joint with its own chef? “You wouldn’t think that a simple wings restaurant would have a chef,” Dion acknowledges. “But we are so proud to have him on staff.” The quality of the food reflects that hiring decision. Dion describes the restaurant’s journey to ringing (winging?) reviews and raves. “When ‘Wings and Things’ on Wilton Drive closed, we purchased all of the owners’ recipes. We knew they had a terrific business, and we wanted to continue that tradition. I purchased the business in November 2011, and my entire goal has been to make money and to give back to a community that I love,” he adds. Dion says that the food at Wilton Wings must stand out, something he is proud to have accomplished in less than a year. “I wanted to make sure that our wings were our signature, since it’s in our name. Without a doubt they are the best. And all of our sauces are homemade—

fresh and never frozen.” For specials, the prices are as much a value as the portions. “We offer a half rack of ribs and wings for lunch for only $9.50,” Dion notes. “On Friday, we offer our Fish and Chips, which features an 8-ounce portion with homemade coleslaw and fries. Saturday, you will find me in the kitchen making homemade New England clam chowder,” he adds proudly. “We also feature fresh tuna and fresh tilapia—the only way it could be fresher is if I were on a boat and caught it myself.” After a momentary thought, he adds “I am way too busy to do that, although it sounds pretty good,” flashing a grin. “One of the things that I am so proud of is our service. I am proud of all of my staff. They are dedicated. We grind our own hamburgers, and we always try to have as much on the menu that is homemade. Chef Ernesto really puts his heart and soul into every meal that we prepare,” Dion says. About his hands-on style, “I am the sort of owner that you may find me bussing tables or helping to serve the food. It always makes me smile when I watch people come in and look at the Specials Board: Their eyes literally light up when they see something that they didn’t expect.” For more information, visit wiltonwings.com, and stop in to Wilton Wings, at 1428 NE 4th Ave., Fort Lauderdale. ALEC BALDWIN: Pitchfork Hank Williams, Jr. is a “Racist Coot”
A
fter the recent comments by country singer Hank Williams, Jr., in which he told a crowd at the Music Stockyards Festival in Fort Worth, “We’ve got a Muslim for a President who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays, and we hate him!” and slammed “queer guitar pickers,” actor Alec Baldwin called out the 63-year-old “entertainer:” “If Hank Williams, Jr. wasn’t such a pathetic, wheezing fossil I’d have a talk with him,” the “30 Rock” star tweeted last week. “I think we need to call Hank Williams, Jr. what he is: A broken-down, senile, racist coot.” Williams’ comments last month came less than a year after his comparison last November of President Obama to Hitler. After that appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends,” ESPN pulled Williams’ song “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight” as the theme for “Monday Night Football:” It had been used by the show since 1989.

M
usic blog Pitchfork has issued an apology after videotaped a publishing interview with Chicago rapper Chief Keef that features the 17-year-old hip-hop star shooting a gun at a firing range. The decision follows comments that appeared on Chief Keef the rap star’s Twitter account concerning the death of another young rapper named Lil JoJo. Lil JoJo (real name Joseph Coleman), 18, was gunned down last week in a crime that is still under investigation. Previously, he had been involved in an ongoing battle of words with rival rappers, including Keef (real Lil JoJo name Keith Cozart). Hours after Coleman’s murder, a message appeared on Keef’s Twitter account that seemed to make light of the tragedy: “Its Sad Cuz Dat Nigga Jojo Wanted To Be Jus Like Us #LMAO,” the post read. Pitchfork Editor Mark Richardson called the post “insensitive and irresponsible,” and added, “Many people have pointed out that this episode could be seen as trivializing gun violence, and we feel they have a good point.” Continued on Page 36

Imperial Point
A HOMETOWN Hospital
J
ust like Betty White in an episode of “Golden Girls” trying to hold her breath in a hospital elevator so she wouldn’t get sick, many of us disdain even the idea of visiting a hospital for fear we might catch something that’s airborne. It makes the fear of getting sick worse for some than the potential cure! Fortunately, times have changed, and hospitals are no longer the breeding ground for illness they once were. They have also changed when it comes to serving the disparate members of the community. One case in point is Imperial Point Medical Center (6401 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale). Tom Kester, Regional Director of Surgical Services for Imperial Point—part of the Broward Health system—is a true friend to the LGBT community. He, along with Imperial Point’s new CEO, Abigail Fortey, have established meaningful ties to Greater Fort Lauderdale’s LGBT community, recognizing the relationship between community partnership and trust and providing health care to that community. “One of the reasons that I joined Imperial Point was that we embrace domestic partnership rights,” notes Kester. “That is huge in the medical field. Of course,” he adds, “all of the Broward Health facilities recognize domestic partnerships.” Kester points to the regions changing needs in health care. “At one time we had a huge HIV/AIDS department. Now, thanks to medical treatment advances, we don’t see that need as it was 25 years ago,” he explains. “At that time, Father William Collins of The Poverello Center served as chaplain. He did so much good work,
and he still does,” Kester adds, flashing a smile. He goes over some of the essential services Imperial Point provides. “Women have so many services offered to them, such as mammograms and other health screenings.” And then there’s “the Man Van.” “That is not the official name of the project,” Kester explains, laughing. “The idea behind it is that men have health issues, and this van will operate like some of the HIV screening vans do. We are eventually looking at the following tests to be done on site, or we will refer the patient to the proper specialist for further testing: Gastrointestinal/colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy, urology and prostate exams, cardiac screening, eye exams, diabetes screening, weight control, skin health, low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, and basic health education—and that’s just scratching the surface,” he adds. Imperial Point is about to celebrate 40 years of providing uninterrupted service. The medical center plans to mark the occasion on Saturday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with something for everyone including screenings for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and more. The event will also feature free therapeutic chair massages, a Halloween-themed corner and bounce house for kids, caricature artist and face painting, food, refreshments, all sorts of prizes and giveaways, live entertainment, and the blood bank bus. For more information, call (954) 759-7400, or visit browardhealth.org/40years.

18 Year Old College Football Player
Kicked Off Team. For Being Gay. After Kissing His Boyfriend. Who is 65.
I
t was an eventful Labor Day weekend for Jamie Kuntz, a student athlete at North Dakota State College of Science. Kuntz, 18, was attending an away game, but, suffering from a concussion, had been placed on the injured list. Asked to film the game from the sidelines, Kuntz and his boyfriend watched the scrimmage from the stadium’s empty press box. Thinking no one was watching, Kuntz and his bf smooched a bit, but thought nothing of it until the student was confronted by the team’s coach about the kiss. The next day Kuntz was kicked off the team. As he told Dan Savage, “[The coach] said he was kicking me off the team because what I did was ‘detrimental’ to the team and I was a ‘distraction.’”
Kuntz said that other players have gotten into far more serious trouble—including criminal charges—without being thrown off the team. But there may have been an additional ‘X-factor’ involved: Kuntz’s boyfriend is 65. “When my coach pulled me off the bus that night and asked me who that was with me in the press box,” Kuntz says, “I said, ‘Oh, that was my grandpa up there with me. I wasn’t kissing my grandpa. I don’t know what you’re talking about.’” He later admitted that the man was his partner, not his pop-pop, and that they met online, after Kuntz aggressively sweated the man. “I definitely pursued him,” Kuntz said. “He’s a great guy. I love him.”
“ Mad Men ” Star Packs Big ‘Hamm’ Around NYC
I
s it real, or is it Memorex? Actor Jon Hamm was spotted last week sporting a heavy “package” around Manhattan, and the subsequent images had hearts (and other organs) a-flutter. The “Mad Men” star was apparently taking in the Big Apple’s sights “commando-style” (what a younger generation might call “free-balling”)—or at least that’s what the pictures seem to ‘reveal.’ Posters to Gawker and other Web sites cried “foul,” claiming the “Hamm” had been ‘Photoshopped.’ I have to defer to my grandmother on this one, who always said “if it looks like a Hamm, and tastes like a Hamm…”

“FALL ” into AUTUMN Fun Ideas to Autumnize Your Home P
ossibly the only downside to living in the most perfect climate on earth is that we South Floridians don’t get to “experience” the change of seasons. (I might add that it’s a small price to pay, but then you’d think me an idiot for stating the obvious.) This is easily corrigible, since the arrival of autumn is a perfect time to snazzy-up your home in a way that evokes the colors, textures—even the smells of fall.
Faux Foliage
THOSE Are Pumpkins?
O
pen bookcases and shelves are perfect spots to place silk fall leaves, available at any local craft store. Strategically placed along the shelves—and pressed inside a picture frame—orange, gold, and yellow autumn-colored leaves will add some free-fall to your spaces.
Pumpkins and Pedestals
P
umpkins (yes, it’s that time of year again) placed on a shelf, on a hall pedestal, or as a table centerpiece, will give a healthy hint of autumn to any zone in your place. Miniature pumpkins stacked near a fireplace, or placed in a bowl, also invoke the memories of fall.
W
hite pumpkins—naturally white, not painted—are a novel (and striking!) way to add some jazz-andsnazz to your autumnal décor. They are also known as Ghost Pumpkins, Snowballs, Luminas, and Caspers— with the tiny ones (about the size of a baseball) called Baby Boos (that’s so sweet, I need an insulin shot now). White pumpkins are a little more expensive than their orange relatives, but their “ghoulish” look makes for an interesting canvas to draw or paint Jack O’Lantern faces, and of course just displayed by themselves, uncarved. (When you carve them, you find that they have orange flesh beneath the white rind, which just adds to their ghostly appeal when you place a candle inside.)
For the Birds

Pomander? I Don’t Even Know Her.
A
pomander (from the French pomme d’ambre, “apple of amber”) is a ball made of perfumes, such as ambergris (from whence comes the name), musk, or civet. First mentioned in 13th Century literature, the pomander was worn or carried in a vase, and used both as protection against infection (during times of plague) and as a natural deodorant. Pomanders were also used as an early form of aromatherapy. In modern times, pomanders are made by studding an orange (or other fruit) with whole dried cloves, and then letting it ‘cure dry.’ The modern pomander can be used to perfume and freshen the air, and to keep dresser drawers with clothing and linens fresh, pleasant-smelling—and moth-free. Like Victorians and medieval royals, you can use the sweet-smelling scent of pomanders to mask odors, and to fill your home with citrus freshness.

“Ingredients”
• Small or medium size unblemished fruit (oranges are best, but apples or lemons will work) • Masking tape or elastic bands • Paper bag • 20 to 25 grams of large-headed cloves • 1 tablespoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cloves (for the spice mixture) • Knitting needle, fork, or toothpick (to poke holes) • Thimbles or masking tape (to protect fingers) • 4 drops of sandalwood oil (as a preserver) (Note: In traditional pomanders, orris root is used as a preservative and to enhance the scent. Orris root comes from an Iris bulb that has been dried and ground to a fine powder. Because some people are allergic to orris root, I suggest you use sandalwood oil as an alternative preserver.) In a bowl or bag, mix spices with the sandalwood oil, and set aside. Cover your fingers with masking tape or thimbles when you make the holes for the cloves (otherwise it will hurt afterwards). Use the knitting needle, or something similar, to poke holes on the orange, starting from the top and working down to the bottom, inserting cloves as you go along. Continue until the orange is completely covered in cloves. (Be sure that the hole is about twice the size of the clove stem, since the orange will shrink to about half its original size.) The maximum spacing between cloves should be no more than ¼ inch (the closer together the better). Once the orange is completely studded, place the spices in a PAPER bag (plastic bags prevent the pomander from curing properly). Roll the orange in the spices, making sure that it is completely and evenly coated. Place the orange in the paper bag, and let it sit in a cool, dry spot for between 4 and 6 weeks, to make sure the pomander is completely dried out. Roll the orange daily in the spices. (If you see mold, or notice that the orange is decomposing, throw it out.) When the pomander is dry, it will feel light and sound hollow at the tap of a knuckle. Once dry shake off the excess spices. Pomanders look beautiful placed together, several in a bowl. They last many years. (When the scent begins to fade, add a few drops of clove oil to the spice mixture, and reroll the orange in the spices.) Your pomander is now ready to fill your house with the sweet, spicy scent that has been enjoyed since the days of queens and princesses. Ah well: Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. (“The more things change, the more they stay the same.”)

By ROBERT ELIAS DEATON
San Diego California’s Birthplace
W
ay back in the mid-seventies, which seems like a lifetime ago, we would go to the gaslight district in downtown San Diego for the sailors who hung out there in all the saloons, tattoo emporiums, porn shops and massage parlors that populated the area. It was a run-down fun place in those days, when the city itself was known for its military population, and its proximity to Tijuana, Mexico. Now the area has been totally gentrified, is officially called the Gaslamp Quarter Historic District, and is a colorful and eclectic assortment of restaurants, bars, shops, lounges and live music venues, that is a must-see for any visit to the second largest city in California. Yes, there are gas lights on the streets, as well as historical art deco buildings that take you back to the turn-of-the-(last)-century. Two things you should know about S.D. right from the start: A) you’ll need a rental car. The gay areas and sights are strung throughout the town from one end to the other. B) There are three main gayborhoods here: Hillcrest, University Heights, and North Park. Hillcrest is really the center of all things gay, bordered on the north by University Heights and the East by North Park. Stroll along University Avenue to get a feel for the place, with its coffee shops, stores, and assorted bistros. Rich’s San Diego (1051 University Ave. between 10th and Vermont) is the oldest and most popular dance club in the city. We also love the Brass Rail (3796 5th Ave. at Robinson) with its Latino base and an outside patio, The Brass Rail is great for which allows you people-watching to take a breather as you people-watch out front. For those who like their action on the dirty side, The Loft (3610 5th Ave. at Brookes) is the local dive where hanky-

panky and stiff drinks are the order of the night. While in the Hillcrest area, don’t miss a stop at Hash House a Go Go (3628 5th Ave.). It’s our favorite big-portion restaurant, and a legend for breakfast according to locals who have made it an institution. Our favorite item on the menu is the Hash Cobb Salad, served later in the day. Balboa Park, which borders Hillcrest on the South, is a 1,200-acre bounty of hiking and biking, museums, historic expositions buildings, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo (home of the Giant Pandas). Get to it via public transportation or the Cabrillo Freeway. Go early and spend all day exploring this green haven. For the rougher side of gay San Diego, head to North Park, where you’ll find the only real leather bar in town. The San Diego Eagle (3040 Park Way at Ray Street— one block parallel to University) is small, sexy and exactly what you’d expect, which is a good thing. At Pecs (2046 University Ave. The tower at Balboa Park at Alabama), there’s no indication you’re at a gay club. Just look for the “Open” sign and march right in to find the hottest cruising in all of San Diego. Want to find a date? This is the place. If you’re young and posing is your thing, head immediately to Bourbon Street in University Heights (4612 Park Blvd. at Madison). There’s something adorable about watching 22-yearolds trying to look cool. Okay, maybe it’s not so adorable, but this is the place to find it in any case. Regardless of what turns you on, this land of sunshine 300 days-a-year has a bit of it available somewhere or other. San Diego—guaranteed fun.

iPhone 5 Special Edition Taller, Faster, Lighter iPhone 5 is a Techboy Dream
T
his week, Apple introduced the iPhone 5, a smartphone that is lighter, taller, and faster than its previous iPhone models—a device that is on track to becoming the fastest-selling gadget in history.. Some experts predict that over 10 million units of the iPhone 5 will be sold by the end of September—a number that would surpass last year’s record set by the iPhone 4S. And according to a survey by Bloomberg, Apple could sell 58 million units by the end of the year. That’s the good news for Apple. For consumers, the goodies are worth a looksee. In addition to running on faster wireless networks, the new iPhone 5 is wired to handle tasks more quickly. The software that runs on the iPhone has also been upgraded, to include new turn-by-turn navigation and mapping features, as well as tools that make it easier to share content on Facebook. The new device also represents the first time that Apple has changed the screen size, boasting a 4-inch screen (compared with 3.5 inches in the earlier ones).

guy magazine
The iPhone 5’s LTE (“long-term evolution”) data networks—through AT&T and Verizon Wireless, among other providers—are engineered to enable quicker Web browsing, along with faster download speeds for video and music than are available with existing networks. The company says that the iPhone 5’s battery lasts longer than those on earlier models. The device also weights 20 percent less and measures 18 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S. This was accomplished by reconfiguring the design of the charging-dock connector. In order to allow for the use of accessories made for the older dock design, Apple will sell an adapter (but see the companion review, below). Speech-command service Siri has likewise been enhanced, with new features that allow you to do cool things like make dining reservations by speaking into the device. And a new app, Passbook, is a one-stop storage system for digital tickets to movies, sporting events, and concerts, as well as loyalty gift cards. Now who’s organized? iPAY/uPAY: Depending on the amount of memory, the iPhone 5 will cost $199, $299 or $399, sold with a wireless contract. The device became available for orders on September 14, and will hit store shelves in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and elsewhere on September 21.

…But iPhone 5 Accessories/Add-Ons Will Cost Way More Than An Apple a Day
Wii U: Worth Learning to Say (and Play)
W
hile the tarted-up iPhone 5 has loads of new features that are sure to please, one that is almost GUARANTEED to turn even the most smiley-faced emoticon upside-down is the device’s new charging-dock connector, located on the base of the phone. The so-called Lightning Port is smaller and differently-shaped than the similar feature on earlier iPhone models—which has the instant effect of making obsolete millions of charging cords, spare docks, clock radios and audio accessories, and other assorted iPhone-ready googaws that customers have acquired since 2007, when the first iPhone reared its cute screen. Since millions of iPhone users have accumulated—literally—tons of accessories usable on the old systems, this promises to be an expensive proposition (although manufacturers of iPhone gear will be thrilled). Apple also is going to profit from the design change, with a built-in customer base for the new Lightning cables, and $30 adapters necessary to connect the new iPhones to many (but not all) older accessories. The House That Jobs Built explained that a smaller connector allows for a thinner model phone, and a more efficient use of the space inside. Over the past year, iPad, iPod and iPhone add-ons—including speakers, power chargers, and cases—generated $2 billion in sales just in the U.S. You hear that sound? Those are the cash registers at the Apple Stores from sea-to-shining sea. Get ready to iPay. An APPLE for the CEO

ust in time for the holidays, on November 18, Nintendo will launch Wii U, the successor to Wii, and the very first entry in the eighth generation of video game consoles. According to the manufacturer, Wii U is 20 times more powerful than its predecessor, and supports 1080p graphics, with 1GB of system memory, and the same for game memory. According to Nintendo, the new console will be released in two versions: A basic white edition with 8GB of internal memory and a premium black model with 32 GB of internal memory, including stand and docks and HDMI cable in both. The Wii U GamePad controller has an embedded touchscreen, and allows you to continue playing games even when the TV set is off. A second unit, the Pro Controller, is a more traditional gamepad, and includes two analog sticks. Nintendo says that the system will be backward compatible with Wii, and Wii U games can support compatibility with peripherals, like the Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk. It WON’T be backward compatible with GameCube discs or peripherals (although games can be purchased via Nintendo’s Virtual Console service). Wii ME: The basic bundle will sell for $299; the deluxe bundle for $349. Nintendo TVii is an entertainment service that is bundled into Wii U for FREE.

Kicking your hypertension to the curb
H
ypertension, or high blood pressure, has been a silent killer of many Americans over the years, and its numbers are growing. It is clearly the disease of the modern age. Hypertension is a byproduct of our fast-paced lifestyle that, as a nation, is showing no sign of slowing down. As a result of excess worry and mental tension in our daily lives, we release adrenaline in our bloodstreams, causing the body’s blood pressure to rise, leading to hypertension. Unfortunately, there are very few actual symptoms of the disease, although those with mild to moderate hypertension may feel pain in the back of the head and neck first thing in the morning. This symptom usually disappears relatively quickly on its own. Other signs and symptoms include periods of dizziness, plus aches and pains throughout the arms, shoulder region, back and legs. Heart palpitations, pain in the heart region, nervous tension and fatigue, emotional upset or crossness, tiredness and weariness, nose bleeding and frequent urination are also signs that you may have hypertension. People who suffer from high blood pressure who do not receive treatment experience tiredness and severe bouts of fatigue, and usually cannot handle any sort of serious or physical work. They tend to be short of breath and may suffer from dyspepsia or indigestion. Untreated cases are prone to lead to heart attacks, strokes and other disabilities such as a detached retina. People who suffer from hypertension typically live more than just a high-stress lifestyle. Often they are smokers and heavy drinkers, and often have an extremely poor diet. Typically, the hypertensive patient will eat an abnormal amount of refined sugar, which further stresses the body as it attempts to stabilize insulin levels. The body starts to then fill with waste, unable to properly digest its food intake. This poisonous matter prevents the arteries from becoming slack, and will eventually lead to other conditions and diseases such as hardening of the arteries, obesity, diabetes and severe constipation.

guy magazine
Other known causes aiding in hypertension are excessive use of painkillers, excessive salt intake, and high-fat and low-fiber diets consisting of processed foods with low nutrient content. The good news is that proper diet and nutrition can help stabilize and even correct this condition. High blood pressure sufferers should be eating a diet low in protein. That means reduce your intake of meats and eggs while increasing your consumption of fruits and vegetables. By eating more fruits and vegetables, you aid in all-over body hydration and assist your system to rid itself of toxins. Eating fruits and vegetables in their rawest form is best for this purpose and adds fiber, helping to keep your bowels regular. Fruits such as pineapples, oranges, apples, pears, mangos, guavas and grapes are great choices in hydrating the body and fighting hypertension, and should be consumed at two different intervals daily. Vegetables that combat hypertension include cucumbers, carrots, onions, tomatoes, spinach, radishes and cabbage. Combine these ingredients together with a little dressing and treat yourself to one flavorful salad. Remember that you ARE what you eat, like it or not. Everything you put in your system will either benefit or hurt it. Please choose wisely.
