COVER FEATURE
THE TEN MOST
R MANTIC RESTAURANTS IN TOWN BY MICHAEL DAVIS
WHAT BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY WITH YOUR SPECIAL SOMEONE THAN WITH A SPECIAL DINNER AT A SPECIAL RESTAURANT WHERE THE AMBIANCE ASSURES ROMANCE IS IN THE AIR. THE CANDLELIGHT, THE FLOWERS, THE CHAMPAGNE AND THE DESSERT ALL COMBINE TO LEAVE NO DOUBT IN THE HEART OF YOUR ONE AND ONLY THAT THE FLAME NOT ONLY HASN’T DIED, IT’S BURNING BRIGHTER THAN EVER. WE’VE NIBBLED OUR WAY ACROSS FORT LAUDERDALE AND WILTON MANORS IN AN EFFORT TO SELECT JUST THE RIGHT SPOTS FOR AN INCREDIBLE MEAL. ALL THE BETTER TO SET THE STAGE FOR A HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER.
1
SERAFINO ITALIAN RESAURANT AND WATERFRONT BISTRO (926 NE 20th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304; 954-4632566) While the Italian food served at Serafino is
fine, it’s the riverfront terrace that says all things romantic. Yes, the kitchen is slow, but each meal is prepared from scratch, so expect to linger a while as you watch the reflection of lights shimmering over the Middle River. A favorite here is Capellini Fra Diavolo Con Gamberi ($22), angel hair pasta with jumbo garlic shrimp. The Fettuccine Con Panna ($18) is also exceptional.
2
KALUZ RESTAURANT
(3300 E Commerical Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308; 954-772-2209) More than just a sophisticated
dining destination, Kalutz Restaurant on the Intracoastal Waterway surrounds you with fine food, fine wine, and one of the best views in the entire city. While not inexpensive, the food is nicely portioned, and festively presented. The visual of multimillion-dollar yachts pulling up to Kaluz’s 300 foot dock is priceless. Especially good: the Traditional Chicken Caesar’s Salad ($12), Thai Noodle & Shrimp ($16), Prime Rib Burger ($16), and the Bar Harbor Crabcake (Market Price). Yum.

3
CASABLANCA CAFÉ
(3049 Alhambra St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304; 954-764-3500) Sitting on two floors right at
the beach, this Mediterranean-style house turned restaurant is a joy for romantics everywhere. In addition to Phyllo Wrapped Baked Brie ($12.95), Baked Onion Soup ($7.95), Duck Confit ($29.95), Casablanca offers up a spectacular Rack of Lamb ($34.95) and Caribbean Lobster Tails ($21.95). A surprise treat that even most locals don’t know about--the smoke-free bar in the rear on the ground floor. Hip and heart-thumping!
4
EDUARDO DE SAN ANGEL
(2822 E Commercial Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308; 954-772-4731) Chef Eduardo de Pria incorporates
the most subtle flavors of his Mexican homeland in some of the most delicious Latin food we’ve every tasted. While Eduardo’s menu is a little on the pricey side, this is Mexican food at its finest set in the charm of dining rooms fashioned after a small hacienda, with fresh flowers, candlelight and unique artwork, transporting you to a village just outside of Mexico City. Be sure to taste the Guajillo Chile Spiced Black Bean Soup. And if you can get the recipe, share the news. theguymag

5
CHIMA BRAZILIAN STEAKHOUSE
(2400 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301; 954-712-0580) Stepping into the outside courtyard
of Chima Brazilian Steakhouse is like stepping back into a fantasy. The terracotta pot fountains, the jazz music, and the giant sprawling banyan tree are nothing short of magic. For $45, you are welcomed at an all-you-can-eat salad bar, and continuous servings of meat, hand carved at your table. Range-free chicken, port sausage, filet mignon, lamb chops, salmon, sword fish, ribeye steak are just some of the tempting taste treats that costumed gauchos slice at the table. This is the place you’ll find my husband and me celebrating on Valentine’s night.
6 THE MAI-KAI RESTAURANT AND POLYNESIAN ISLANDER REVUE (3599 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308; 954-563-3272) This iconic Polynesian dinner
theater has been successfully packing the Tiki hut since 1956, making it the world’s longest running island review in the US! The food keeps pace with Teriyaki Chicken, Almond Chicken, Panang Curry Chicken, Pineapple Chicken, Thai Red Curry Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Mushroom Beef, Szechuan Beef, Teriyaki Beef, Mai Kai Orange Beef, Spicy Beef with Almonds, Sweet and Sour Pork, Panang Curry Shrimp, Singapore Chili Shrimp, Cantonese Shrimp, Scallops Singapore, and Lobster Cantonese among others. The eight dining rooms and the Molokai Bar are each decorated with Polynesian flare and museum quality artifacts to complete the dining/ show experience. $59.95 for the meal and show with $20 discounts routinely available on-line at DestinationLauderdale.com.
7
15TH STREET FISHERIES
8
CAFÉ VICO
(1125 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304; 954-565-9681) The always romantic Café Vico
has undergone a total remodel, with the bar area now expanded into the once-empty space next door, and turned into a delightful cabaret where Mickey plays the piano at least twice a week to a packed house. The ambiance here is old world Italian, with owner Marco seating each guest like a favorite relative. Count on the Seafood Ravioli ($25.95), stuffed with crabmeat and served with lobster cream sauce; or the incredible Lasagna Bolognese ($22.95), a true showstopper.
9
H2O CAFÉ (101 S Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316; 954-414-1024) Housed in a 1937 Art Deco treasure, the H2O Café is, at first glance, a tourist trap aimed at well-heeled travelers who pose in the packed beachfront outdoor-seating to people watch and view the breaking waves of the Atlantic. Yet, hidden inside is a gem of a restaurant that offers elevated booths and romantic lighting that hints at the past while keeping itself just this side of trending. The menu is a blend of Italian influenced cross-cultural cuisine. Personal appetizer favorites here include Fried Calamari Fritta ($12.95) with a surprise appearance by baby zucchini, and a wonderful Zuppa Costa Brava ($14.95), a light broth flavored by pieces of mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, scallions and mixed fish with a touch of fresh tomato. Recommended entrees include the Chicken Marsala ($19.95) and the always-delicious Rainforest Tilapia ($26.95), with shrimp, spinach, mixed mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes served with a vodka lobster sauce. Romance and flavor.
10 LE PATIO
(1900 SE 15th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316; 954-7632777) Located inside Fort Lauderdale’s landmark
(2401 NE 11th Ave, Wilton Manors, FL 33305; 954-5304641) Life-long partners Vero Leroux and Jean
Lauderdale Marina, 15th Street Fisheries is the place to head for the freshest fish in town. As if to prove the point, as you sit outside directly on the Intracoastal Waterway, fishing boats compete with luxury yachts for your attention. You can even feed the passing tarpon from your seat along the water. A house specialty is Shrimp ‘N Grits ($14) with Applewood Smoked Bacon. We highly recommend the Provencal Diver Scallops ($35) and the enormous Florida Cioppino ($37), with Mussels, Calamari, Shrimp, Bay Scallops, Fish Pieces, Basil & Fresh Tomato Sautéed with Garlic & Shallots then served over Orechiette Pasta. A feast.
Doherty have created what they love to call “the tiniest cutest restaurant in South Florida.” That it is. Take three giant steps and you’ve crossed the small bar area, walked past a few inside tables and arrived at one of the most unique spots in all of Wilton Manors—the patio that gives this restaurant its name. To enter here is to enter a foreign county—perhaps France, perhaps Italy, or maybe Ireland. It’s a romantic hodgepodge offering some incredibly delicious French Onion Soup ($4.75), Lobster Ravioli ($15.95), and a personal favorite—the Real Irish Shepherds Pie ($13.95). You’ll always need a reservation, it’s that good.

INTERVIEW BY GREGG SHAPIRO [PHOTO BY KARL SIMONE]
AN INTERVIEW WITH CHEYENNE JACKSON
LESSONS LEARNED
o In the film version of Richard Alfieri’s play Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks, out actor Cheyenne Jackson plays Michael, a gay man who has suffered a few losses over the years and
attempts to begin putting his life back together by becoming a dance instructor on Florida’s Gulf Coast. As it turns out, he has ulterior motives, beginning with his first student, Lily (Gena Rowlands), the widow of a vehemently anti-gay preacher. Michael thinks he’s going to teach Lily about more than the tango, but in the end both characters learn something about love, forgiveness and friendship. Jackson, who has appeared on Broadway, on television, in film, as well as on record, can also be seen in the acclaimed gay film Love Is Strange, which has appeared on several best of 2014 movie lists. I spoke with Cheyenne about the movie and his career in late 2014.

Gregg Shapiro: What was it about the character of dance instructor Michael in Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks that made you want to portray him in the movie? Cheyenne Jackson: I liked his balls. He’s a strong guy. He says what he means. He takes what he wants. He’s not afraid of stepping on toes. These are all things I wish I had more of. That’s always fun to play – somebody who embodies something you wish you had more of. GS: With that in mind, what was involved in your process of getting into that character? CJ: You do your research. You go over the script and think about why he’s making the decisions or saying the things he is. All of his anger and sassiness and abruptness socially comes from pain. He’s hurt and he’s bitter. His mom’s dead, his lover’s dead. Everyone has treated him shitty. He has no money. Once you think about all of those things going in, it informs each scene and lays itself out for you. GS: As someone who has danced on Broadway, what do you think of dance studios such as the one where Michael is employed? CJ: I think it’s great. Any kind of bettering yourself, whether it’s through dance or art or ceramics, whatever it is, I think it’s great; especially for older folks. My parents live in a retirement community. They’re very young but their neighbor is 95. She lives by herself and she does classes. It keeps people busy and motivated and gives them stuff to look forward to. I think it’s great. GS: Do you have a favorite dance step? CJ: The cha-cha was fun. I actually learned a lot while doing this. Learning the cha-cha was fun, and making it look natural. GS: What was it like working with Gena Rowlands, who plays your dance student Lily? CJ: Heaven! I’ve met a lot of my idols. I’ve met people I’ve looked up to for years. I just worked with Michael Douglas. I worked with Alec Baldwin for four years. People whose sensibility, as dramatic actors and comedians, are so wonderful. On the female side, Gena Rowlands, my whole life I have loved her work. Gloria share with us on guymag.net
[SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS OPENS IN SOUTH FLORIDA THEATERS ON FEB. 27, 2015. CHEYENNE JACKSON PERFORMS AT THE STONEWALL NATIONAL MUSEUM & ARCHIVES GALA AT PARKER PLAYHOUSE ON FEB. 14, 2015.]
and Opening Night and A Woman Under The Influence, these are all seminal acting moments for me. You have that all built up when you’re going to meet somebody. I was hired after Sean Hayes had to drop out. I literally had about 48 hours before I had to start rehearsals with her. In the first scene, I have to call her a “stupid old cow” or something [laughs]. But she was so gracious. I said, “I have to tell you all these things and I have to worship you for a few minutes before we start.” She was so great. She let me just get it all out. Then we went to work. GS: Michael describes himself as a “passive/ aggressive queen with a bad attitude.” How would you describe yourself? CJ: I’m not passive/aggressive. I guess I’m a queen, by definition. I can be a queen [laughs]. My attitude is bad sometimes. I would say I’m pretty even keel. I’ve always been easygoing. I have my passive/aggressive queen with a bad attitude days, sure. GS: Michael becomes something of an unlikely gay activist when he confronts Lily, the widow of a homophobic preacher. Can you say something about your own activism? CJ: It’s a huge part of my life. I’ve been out for 20 years. That aspect of it was definitely something I could sink my teeth into and I could relate to on a human level. Everybody has prejudices and he’s judging her just like she’s judging him. It’s a two-way street. GS: In Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks as well as Love Is Strange, you performed closely alongside actors of an older generation. What impact does that have on you as a performer? theguymag

INTERVIEW CHEYENNE JACKSON AND GENA ROWLANDS IN SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS [PHOTO BY IAN L. SITREN © ENTPRO INC.]
GS: Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks was filmed in the Tampa/St. Pete area. What did you think of working in that location? CJ: It was great! We didn’t have much time. Every interior scene was shot in Budapest. You can see me running into a building in Florida and as soon as I open the door, we’re in Hungary [laughs]. Also, when Gena and I were there (in Florida), it was really hot outside. When you have long sleeves on and lots of make-up, it doesn’t make for a very fresh day. GS: Gena’s daughter Zoe Cassavettes directed you in the forthcoming Day Out of Days. What was that experience like for you? CJ: Zoe’s great. I did the reading of her screenplay maybe two years ago. Then we shot it last spring. About three weeks ago (in November 2014) we shot some additional scenes. She’s fantastic. She’s smart and driven and wry. Their whole family is so talented. I’m pretty lucky that I got to work with mother and daughter.
CJ: I’ve always had older friends. I’m always drawn to the oldest person in the room. When I was shooting Love Is Strange with John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, we were just drawn to each other. My older friends have more to say, they’re more interesting, they’ve seen the world. I’m more interested in talking to them than 20 year old kids. Also, as an actor who started kind of late – I started doing this at 27 – I’ve been doing this for 11 years – that’s been my acting class. Larry Moss is my acting coach, privately. But in terms of acting, on set is when I learn the most. Whoever’s number one on the call sheet, you better believe I’m watching their scenes. That’s how you learn. By watching, by osmosis and asking questions. I’ve been really fortunate in that way.

GS: The day after Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks opens in South Florida in February, you are headlining a benefit for the Stonewall National Museum and Archives in Fort Lauderdale. CJ: I’m absolutely looking forward to it. I love going down there any time I can. If I have any time off, I love to do things like that. GS: After I finish speaking with you, Cheyenne, I’m going to be attending an advance screening of Into The Woods. CJ: I’m so excited for that! I actually did the reading of that screenplay with Anna Kendrick and a lot of those folks. I played one of the princes. I was up for that role for the film, so I have a vested interest. I’m really excited for that movie. It’s going to be great. theguymag

TRAVEL
Far Flung Locations BY RICK KARLIN
o
In the last two columns we took a look at various film locations sites in South Florida. But there’s more to the Florida film industry than that. Of course, Orlando’s film studios offer an incredible output of movies and television programs and that often means that the streets of Orlando are home to exterior shots. Take a long weekend to visit just a few spots or make it a week-long trek to stop by numerous sites in Northern or Central Florida. Cocoon fittingly, was filmed in and around St. Petersburg, Florida, home to many retirees. In the 1985 science-fiction film, a group of elderly people are rejuvenated by aliens. The movie’s locations included the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club (559 Mirror Lake Drive North), Sunny Shores Rest Home (125 56th Ave. South) and the historic landmark, Snell Arcade (405 Central Ave.). Magic Mike was based upon Channing Tatum’s career as a stripper in Tampa, where the majority of the film is set and many exterior shots were filmed. The exterior of Wilson’s Sports Lounge (3030 Fourth St. N., St. Petersburg) represented the strip club, Xquisite. The Amphitheatre (1609 E. Seventh Ave.) is where Mike takes his protégé. Caddy’s on the Beach (9000 W. Gulf Blvd., Sunset Beach) is the beachfront bar where the guys kick back. And of course, many exterior shots were filmed in Ybor City, home to more than just a few gay clubs – none of which figure into the movie. Filming for the sequel, Magic Mike XXL, filmed last November along Ocean Boulevard, the boardwalk around the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel and at Plyler Park. The majority of the sequel is being filmed in Savannah, GA. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom features a scene with Indy boarding a vintage Ford Tri-Motor plane. Although the scenes were filmed on the west coast, the plane is on display at the aircraft collection Fantasy of Flight (1400 Broadway Blvd. SE, Polk City), in Lakeland in central Florida. Many of the buildings along Cholokka Blvd. were used, with the Herlong Mansion (402 NE Cholokka) standing in for the town’s hospital. The Squash Festival Parade scene was also filmed on Cholokka. In Edward Scissorhands, the neighborhood where much of the movie was filmed, is the cul de sac of Tinsmith Circle in the tiny town of Lutz (pronounced Lootz) near Tampa. The shopping mall is Southgate Shopping Center (3100 S. Florida Ave.). While the shopping center still has that frozen in time look, the candy-colored houses of Edward’s neighborhood have since been painted standard colors. Spring Breakers, filmed around St. Petersburg, Tampa and Sarasota, was a 2012 film that starred Vanessa Hudgens in one of her first post High School Musical films. St. Pete rapper Dangeruss performs Hangin’ wit da Dopeboys at Behind the Undertow Beach Bar (3850 Gulf Blvd., St. Petersburg Beach). Although most of Ocean’s 11 was filmed in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Saul Bloom (Carl Reiner) gets recruited while betting at Derby Lane Dog Track (10490 Gandy Blvd.) in St Pete. In The Truman Show, the fictitious town of ‘Seahaven’ is a planned resort, called, generically, Seaside. It’s on the Gulf coast of Florida, off I-98 about 30 miles east of Panama City. In a case of irony, the residents of the town have embraced the film, which makes fun of homogenized life, and proudly identify the Truman House (31 Natchez St.). filmed at the Silver Springs studios owned by Newt Perry, who also founded the Weeki Wachee tourist attraction. Another Florida-based production company; Jacksonville’s Norman Studios, was founded in 1920. It was among the nation’s first to produce films written by, directed and starring African Americans with characters depicted in positive, non-stereotypical roles. It was run by Richard E. Norman, whose five-building studio complex survives in Jacksonville’s historic Old Arlington neighborhood and is the city’s last surviving vestige of its heyday as a wintertime film production hub. Its most successful film, The Flying Ace (1926) starred Bill Pickett, the first black movie star. Efforts are underway to turn it into a museum. For more information, go to www.normanstudios.org. Bocelli also combines famous opera arias with pop songs like “September Mom” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” The prolific artist released the love-song CD Amore and followed it with Under the Desert Sky, featuring live versions of many of the same songs. INTERVIEW BY CLIFF DUNN
Richard Wexler and I should o have been lifelong friends. (I’m sure a lot of guys say that about the owner of Richard’s Men’s Hair Shop, but this is my story.)
RICHARD WEXLER LIFE IS MORE THAN JUST ‘HIGHLIGHTS’

His birthplace of Bayside, Queens (New York) is located less than seven miles—via the Cross Island Parkway—from my own humble point of origin in Flushing Meadows. We both attended the city’s P.S. 169, and each of us arrived in South Florida with our mutual families in the distant eons of prehistory (before I-95 connected Florida with the rest of the eastern seaboard). Wexler’s move to South Florida in 1972 beat me and my family’s arrival here by almost a year, and like me he remembers growing up in Lauderdale Lakes when that city’s Six Cinema theater was a moviegoer’s wet dream. Our local school path’s never crossed either (he attended Margate Middle School and Coconut Creek High), but we both remember (very well indeed) the bygone days when the venerable (and closed) Las Olas institution Cathode Ray was still a fern bar (and was still located on the WEST side of 15th Avenue), along with the names of too many mutual friends who made their exit from life’s stage before they turned 30. “That was a crazy time, the 1980s,” Wexler acknowledges. “I did a lot of living, a lot of growing then—but what a great time to be alive—almost as great as it is now.” Wexler’s energy and upbeat guymagtube
worldview are contagious. He brings an almost Zen outlook to the multiple facets of his life. He says that a life spent in his beauty and grooming has netted him more than professional experience and business acumen; it has garnered a lifetime worth of close relationships. “We really make an effort to make people feel welcome, feel at home, like part of our family, from the moment they walk into the shop. “You have to treat people with respect, show them you care about them and their needs, and you make more than a customer—you make a friend,” Wexler explains. At 19 years old, Wexler attended beauty school in Hollywood before taking his first salon job at a shop in Plantation. “I also worked out of my house for a while,” he adds. “That’s when I got my massage license.” In April 1999, Wexler took the plunge and opened his own shop on Wilton Drive, just a couple of doors down from the present location of Courtyard Café. “I was there in that same location just shy of 15 years,” Wexler explains. In January 2014, Wexler uprooted his stakes to a location just down Wilton Drive, in the merchant shops at Gable Wilton Park. “I really loved that spot, but I can’t tell you how happy we are in our new place. The business has really grown to a point where it ‘fits’ perfectly into this location, if you know what I mean.” Among the biggest differences: “I don’t know if this makes sense—but the place has a great energy,” Wexler says. “You can just feel it when you come into the shop I know that this is where I am supposed to be. “It’s bigger, it’s brighter.” Richard’s Men’s Hair Shop offers a full range of body and grooming services for men, including all facets of barbering and styling, fades, hot shaves, manicure and pedicures, waxing, and “sugaring” (a hair removal process which has been around for thousands of years—so why am I only now hearing about it, when it’s too late for me?). With six haircutting stations and a manicure/pedicure station, Wexler says there is a service that will appeal to any grooming share with us on guymag.net
need (even a buzz-job like Yours Truly, who he insists in the perfect candidate for a hot head shave). Remember that massage license? Richard also has an arrangement with neighboring 78 Degree Spa to provide massage services to a select clientele. “John [at 78 Degree Spa] is a lovely guy,” says Wexler. “When he found out that I do massage, too, he gave me the key to his spa. I love working with great people like that. That’s what makes this such a terrific community.” In a storied career, Wexler says he is proud to have made clients from all over. “I have regulars that come to see us from Boston, from New York and Canada, and closer to home,” Wexler says. “We do great hair—but we also have a great a relationship with each of our clients, personally. I am really grateful to have the staff I work with, and to have built such an extraordinary foundation of regular and new customers.” He also credits the support of a community in which he is very much a fixture. “You have to stay involved.” Taking a moment to stop at Fort Lauderdale’s Sebastian Beach, I ask Wexler where he would like to see himself 10 years from now. “Living on a tropical island,” he answers with a laugh, before adding: “Wherever I am, I want to be healthy, I want to be happy and free. “My business, my co-workers, my friends and my loved ones—these are what will help take me to wherever I am supposed to be.” I ask Wexler if he has a personal credo under which he tries to live. By way of reply, he offers something that the Buddha said 2,500 years ago: “On life’s journey Faith is nourishment, Virtuous deeds are a shelter, Wisdom is the light by day and Right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life nothing can destroy him; If he has conquered greed nothing can limit his freedom.” A very Zen outlook indeed. theguymag

Working Out: Your Best Investment Strategy by Tom
bonanTi
o
Sure, the price of gasoline has tanked in our favor, but how long until it creeps back up again? Last week, your portfolio was looking mighty favorable, but have you checked it out this week? With so much uncertainty in the world today, I can sure as hell tell you that there is one investment that will payoff big time. When times are tough, what’s a body to do? Hit the gym. Your workout is an investment in your health and sanity—in fact it’s the only sound investment on the market today. Working out and doing cardio are great for building muscle and burning fat. But besides the obvious, regular exercise can play a key role in reducing your risk of medical problems and save you a bundle in health care costs. The rewards of working out are irrefutable. Here’s a list of some of the benefits of exercise if you are willing to invest just a few hours a week. For starters, try resistance or weight training for a minimum of 20 minutes three times a week. Light to moderate cardio vascular training (walking, swimming, cycling, etc.) twice a week for 30 to 45 minutes is great for beginners. • Relief of Anxiety: Exercise triggers the release of mood-altering chemicals in the brain like endorphins and enkephalins which act as your body’s natural pain killers and have a calming effect on both mind and body. A morning workout can help rid you or morning anxiety and panic attacks at work! • Eliminate Back pain: Exercise helps both to strengthen the abdominals and lower back muscles and stretches the hamstring muscles. This combo can really eliminate lower back pain that comes from sitting and being sedentary all day. • Regulate Cholesterol: Exercise helps to raise HDL (the “good” cholesterol) levels in the blood and lower LDL (the undesirable lipoprotein) levels. • Help rid you of Depression: Exercise

helps speed metabolism and delivers more oxygen to the brain; the improved level of circulation in the brain tends to enhance your mood. Plus, when you look better, you feel better, too! Don’t let depression get you down, get up, get active and kick it in the butt. Helps fight Diabetes: Exercise helps lower excess blood sugar levels, strengthens muscles and heart, improves circulation and keeps insulin levels balanced. Fights Fatigue: Just a half hour of walking per day can help eliminate the fatiguecausing effects of stress, poor nutrition and bad posture. Prevents Heart Disease: Exercise helps promote many changes that collectively lower the risk of heart disease – a decrease in body fat, a decrease in LDL, an increase in the efficiency of the heart and lungs, a decrease in blood pressure and a lowered heart rate. Lowers Blood Pressure: Exercise reduces the level of stress related chemicals in the blood stream that constrict the arteries and veins, increases the release of endorphins, raises the level of HDL in the blood stream, lowers resting heart rate, and helps reduce blood pressure through body weight maintenance. Reduces Overweight Problems: Exercise is an appetite suppressant. It also increases metabolic rate, burns fat, increases lean muscle mass and improves self esteem. Prevents Osteoporosis: Working out not only builds lean muscle, it also strengthens your bones in the process.
Your workout is an investment in you and it will pay dividends for years to come. Get off your butt, you’re worth it! Contact trainertomb@aol.com with all of your questions. Call Tom today (954) 557-1119 to schedule a free intake. Check out www.pumpnincgym.com . theguymag
