Fetish Fighter
‘Seduction’ Designer Wages War on Unprotected Sex Paul Hutnick Barebacking videos continue to be a controversial topic in the adult community. The latest industry insider to take a public stand against the trend is fetish wear designer Nir Zilberman. His new collection, Seduction, releasing in May, uses a military motif to remind gay men that the fight against HIV/AIDS wages on. “When I see young men in film risking their lives just for more money, it makes me mad,” he says. “What is worse is that the older segments of the community – those who should know better – are supporting the trend by buying the movies. How do we sleep when we know these kids are risking their lives simply so that we can have a few minutes of entertainment?” Supporters for bareback films argue that condoms take away from the fantasy. Zilberman disagrees. “Men can have amazing sex with a condom. Great sex is in our heads, not between our legs.”
by
o
Guy Magazine: Do you worry your stance against the adult industry may hurt sales of your fetish collection? Nir Zilberman: No, I don’t worry. Success comes from emitting good energy and being the best person you can be. There are a lot of gay men that support safe sex and using condoms and I believe they’ll support my brand. Also, my designs, my choice of fabrics, the fit and the extra details in my collections, are all amazing and unique enough to stand up on their own. I trust the collection will thrive. Why do you think the community has become so lax in its fight against HIV/ AIDS?

We don’t remember the millions of people who lost their lives to the disease. We forget the discrimination; how doctors and nurses used to fear treating people with AIDS. How heterosexuals blamed the gay community for AIDS. We must remember the heroes that stood up on the streets in San Francisco and NYC with raised signs begging the world to “save our lives”. Life for many gay men has become about parties, drugs, drinking, dancing, having sex…and that’s ok. I say play hard! But also play it safe. What inspired you to create the camouflage line of Seduction? The inspiration for all of my collections comes from different aspects of my life. The camouflage line reflects my youth in Israel. All of my childhood was about war and terrorist attacks. I was nine years old when eleven of our Israeli athletes were killed in the Munich Olympics of 1972. Every day was a struggle and a fight. Are you ready to fight against barebacking? Yes. It’s time we fight AIDS, hate and ignorance. The way I see it, in life, we have choices. Using condoms is the safer choice. Not using condoms could mean death. The only thing I ask is that people realize the fight is against AIDS, not people with AIDS. People with AIDS need our love and compassion. They are our brothers and sisters and we are fighting this war for them. To shop the Seduction collection, visit www.escollectionusa.com/online_shop

THE WEEK
AIDS Walk, Dining Out for Life Kick-Off and a Stonewall Gallery Preview ____________________ Thursday
3/27
Diva Dinner oLiza Minelli was freaking amazing at The Academy Awards this year. With that nutty electric blue hairstreak, electric blue jump suit, and bizarre selfie, she somehow stole the show. Even Ellen thought the wonderful Liza was a drag queen impersonation of herself. Tonight, though, at Lips, the drag queens themselves with impersonate Liza along with a bevy of other divas. Performances include facsimiles of Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, and many more. Each night at Lips includes a delicious meal served by the divas. Humor, performance, and food all in one place! Come see what all the fuss is about. 7 p.m. Lips. 1421 E Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 33334.

Stonewall and Art Time Tribute oThe Wilton Manors Stonewall Gallery is offering two different exhibits. The first one, The Times of Our Lives: LGBT People and Issues on the Cover of Time Magazine, features the topics and individuals who have been featured in Time Magazine since its debt in 1923. More than eighty figures over the span of eighty years are highlighted, including quoted excerpts of articles when “gayness” and “queerness” are mentioned. The other exhibit, Andrew Epstein—TShirts and Artwork, features original artwork from graphic designer, photographer and author Andrew Epstein. Epstein has been capturing the queer life since the 1960s. His work has been shown at the MOMA in NY and in SF. 12 p.m. Stonewall Gallery. 2157 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, 33305.
LGBT Women’s History Month Art Opening oCloset Talk group and The Pride Center Art Gallery sponsor the LGBT Women’s History Art Opening. The Pride Center Art Gallery is an artistic strategy used as a tool of community mobilization toward empowerment, pride, and health awareness. The Closet Talk group is an LGBT resource for many, discussing topics like politics, love, coming out, religion, culture, film, etc. The show helps their fight against ignorance and hate, moving toward love and equality for all. The show runs until 3/31.

Have I Got A Girl For You oGay musical theatre actors usually have problems with two things: drugs and men. Island City Stage’s new production, Have I Got a Girl For You, blends the two. Crazier, the story is true. Have I Got a Girl For You tells the story of a newly sober, gay musical theatre actor who attempts to get his life back on track by running the largest female escort agency on the East Coast. This Soundheim-quoting pimp leaves NYC for Boca Raton, where his life changes hysterically and drastically. After winning the coveted TheatreMania Audience Award in the New York International Fringe Festival, the play arrives in Fort Lauderdale, making its regional theater debut. For tickets, visit empirestage.com. 8 p.m. Empire Stage. 1140 N Flagler Dr, Fort Lauderdale, 33304.
PrideFest of the Palm Beaches oThe 21st annual PrideFest of the Palm Beaches takes place this weekend at Bryant Park up in Lake Worth. Over 12,000 attendees annually participate in one of South Florida’s largest gay and lesbian visibility events. The festival exemplifies the strength and growth of the gay and lesbian community by highlighting more than 140 businesses that stand by our community and welcome out business. A parade, live performances, and entertainment for all ages complete the festival. 12 p.m. Bryant Park. 78 2nd Ave, Lake Worth, 33460.

2014 AIDS Walk oSouth Florida’s obsession with the 1980s continues as The Go-Gos take the stage for the Florida AIDS Walk. This year, the Florida AIDS Walk and Music Festival has three achievable goals: raising funds that support HIV/AIDS services for Florida residents, reminding the community that the HIV/AIDS crisis is still in full-effect, and treating the participants to a magical day of music, fun, and friends at the beach. HIV/AIDS has been a part of our community for over 30 years now. THE WEEK continues on page 42

Moody and Blue oWith album sales of over 70 million spanning a 40-plus years career, the Moody Blues is certainly legendary. Famous songs such as Nights in White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, and Your Wildest Dreams have become cultural touchstones in America. Their major musical innovation was fusing rock with classical music, which can be heard in their 1967 album Days of Future Passed. Tonight, they play the hits. 8 p.m. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. 701 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, 33401.

Dine Out for Your Life oBroward House provides a myriad of services up to and including medical care, substance abuse and mental health counseling, and housing for over 6,000 women, children men and families living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS. Dining Out for Life is a fundraiser that helps continue Broward House’s goals, so that they will never have to turn anyone away from their doors. Unlike most of the workers who spend their hours helping, all you have to do is enjoy a wonderful meal at restaurants including Dapur, Alibi, Mojo’s, 13 Even, Pink Submarine, Rosies Bar and Grill, and many other local favorites. A percentage of each sales goes toward the charity. Tonight, celebrate the Kick Off Party at J Mark’s. (Dining Out For Life South Florida’s official date is 04/24, but this event is a perfect way to give now and still have the funds for meals on the 24th!). Eat and give back to the community - all at the same time. 6 p.m. J Mark’s Restaurant. 1245 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, 33304.

TRAVEL
Summer’s Meant for Cruising by
Rick Karlin
o
What better way to escape the South Florida heat than by sailing away to more temperate climes? And, if you’re going to do so, why not do so with hundreds, if not thousands, of other gay men? Yes, we’re talking gay cruises, and not your little three day excursions down to Mexico or the Caribbean either. We’re talking full-fledged, week longer (or longer!) expeditions. Many men hesitate to take a gay cruise because they feel they won’t fit in with all the hot shirtless men they see in the cruises companies’ ads. While there is plenty of eye candy to be had on gay cruises, men of every age, size and level of furriness abound, so you needn’t feel self-conscious. If you’ve never been on an all-gay cruise, you might be surprised that it isn’t all non-stop partying (although one can do that, if so inclined). You will be equally comfortable sunning by the pool reading a book or taking part in a game or activity. And if you’re going on an all-gay cruise, what could be gayer than the Mediterranean in the summer? Just the color of the water alone screams, “Oh, queen!” There are trips for those seeking a big party, an intimate gathering or a mixed clientele. Atlantis, the grand-daddy of cruises, is offering a ten-day cruise sailing from gay-friendly Barcelona on Aug. 2 with stops on the island of Malta and Sicily. There are three stops in the Italian ports of Naples, Civitavecchia/Rome and Livorno/Florence before hitting the French Riviera/Monte Carlo, where Nice and Cannes beckon nearby. The ship will be docked in prime position for Monaco’s International Fireworks competition before departing for a full day stop at the island of Ibiza and then returning to Barcelona. Prices for the cruise range from as low as $1,800 to the sky’s the limit. You might want to extend your trip by a day to take advantage of the gigantic gay water park party hosted by Circuit Festival in Barcelona. If you prefer an intimate, luxurious trip, Source Events is offering an Aegean Odyssey cruise from Aug. 27 through Sept. 5, on the 49 passenger

Panorama II. The round trip excursion sails from Athens and visits Santorini, Patmos, Kusadasi, Mykonos, Kea, Cape Seounion, and Marina Zeas. Ocean views begin at about $4,000. Visit sourceevents.com for more info. Pied Piper offers a cruise to the Greek Isles and Turkey on the Celebrity Silhouette from July 15–27. The cruise sails out of Civitavecchia (Rome) to Venice, then through the Mediterranean with stops at Athens, Rhodes, Santorini, Crete and Mykonos. Cabins are priced from $1,750 to $4,000. Go to piedpipertravel.com for a full listing of cruises. Aquafest is a gay & lesbian group cruise organizer that differs from full ship charters, with a host who coordinates social outings, dining onboard, and excursions in ports for a group of GLBT passengers aboard a regular cruise. Its Mediterranean cruise departs Venice on June 21, and after visiting the Greek islands returns June 28. The cruise is aboard the Norwegian Jade. Prices range from a little more than $1000 for an inside cabin to nearly $1,800 for a balcony. To find out more, visit aquacruises.com. Out Adventures offers small group adventure travel to the LGBT community. Its Greek Islands eight-day trip, aboard a private yacht, sails on Aug. 22. The itinerary begins in Athens and the first day includes stops in Delos and Mykonos, where a local guide takes the group on an orientation walk. Other ports include Santorini, Folegrandros and Milos. This trip is, what Out Adventures designates as an, “In Style” trip, meaning an experienced leader accompanying a small group, four star accommodations and private transport. Some meals and sightseeing activities are also included. Prices range from $2,800-$3,500. Go to out-adventures. com for more info on this eight-day Greek getaway. Round trip air fare to Barcelona is about $1,000-$1,500 (coach), $500 more for Athens (about $3,00 to $5,000 first class), from Miami. Add about $750 if you plan to fly out of Tampa. guymagtube

FITNESS
Build Bigger Muscles, Faster by Tom
Bonanti
o
Want to build muscle, but just can’t find the time to hit the gym? Do you get discouraged because your job prohibits you from dedicating endless hours to a bodybuilding regime? Are you one of those rare breed who believe that there is more to life than working out? Well here’s good news for everyone. You can build quality muscle and improve overall fitness in less time than you think! I call this my Slam-Bam Routine and it has two great things in its favor. First, you can get your whole workout done in about 30 minutes. Second, because your testosterone levels start to drop between 45-60 minutes into a heavy weight training session as cortisol (a bad, stressful hormone) levels rise, you can make the most of your natural juices and avoid overtraining! The workout uses “giant sets”, a body building concept that employs a multiple number of sets in a minimal amount of time. Giant sets can be performed in several ways, but with this routine you will do at least 5 sets back to back, each on a different muscle group. Use weight that will challenge you for 12 reps and remember to rest minimally between sets. Now, let’s slam through upper body. The first exercise of the five set cycle is the incline dumbbell press. This exercise works chest. After a 30 second rest, move on to the wide grip lat pull down for that “V” shaped back. Seated dumbbell over-

head presses are next for shoulders. Pump triceps with a set of 15-20 dips. Finish round one of this monster routine with a set of standing dumbbell curls for biceps and forearms. After a two minute rest, perform this giant set two more times. Up your weight on each set by about 2 per cent if you can manage it. Adhere to proper form with each exercise. Perform 8 to 12 reps for each set. You can also perform giant sets for lower body on the same day as upper body depending upon your strength and stamina. Or you can work upper body and lower body on different days depending upon how much time you have. Use squats, leg presses, leg curls, stiff-leg dead lifts, lunges and a high repetition calf raise (15-20 reps) to slam quads, hamstrings, calves and butt. Perform 3 giant sets for legs. Rest minimally between exercises and two – three minutes between giant sets (a little more rest may be needed for legs as compared to upper body). Work abdominals by doing crunches at anytime during these workouts or on off days. Using my Slam-Bam Routine you can train both upper and lower body 2-3 times per week. Always remember to rest 2 days per week For more tips on how to turn up the heat on your workouts don’t hesitate to contact me, TrainerTomB@aol.com .
