The Gay Year In Review: Seven Hot Topics that Had Us Talking in 2014 by
Mikey Rox
o
This year the LGBT community laughed together, cried together, and celebrated together as news broke on issues important to us all. To refresh your memory, here are my picks for the top headlines that had us talking in 2014.
Michael Sam (Courtesy of the NFL)
1. MICHAEL SAM BECOMES FIRST OPENLY GAY NFL PLAYER – THEN QUICKLY GETS THE BOOT American football defensive end Michael Sam rocked the sports world when he publicly addressed his sexuality while still a player at the University of Missouri, an admission that spread like wildfire through mainstream media. An NFL draft contender nonetheless, Sam eventually became the first openly gay athlete drafted into the NFL as the 249th overall pick selected by the St. Louis Rams. Sam’s good fortune was short-
10
lived, however, as the Rams cut the buzzed-about athlete at the end of training camp, and the Dallas Cowboys – who picked up Sam after his release from the Rams – sent him packing from the practice team after the first seven weeks of the season. Currently, Sam is a free agent who likely won’t ever play an NFL game – but at least he has a cute shoulder to cry on in boyfriend Vito Cammisano.
2. WORLD PROTESTS RUSSIA’S ANTI-GAY POLICIES AHEAD OF THE 2014 WINTER OLYMPICS
share with us on guymag.net
theguymag
theguymag
As early as 2012, the ire of equalrights advocates was drawn when the notoriously anti-gay Russian government blocked the establishment of Pride House – a designated sanctuary for LGBT athletes, volunteers and other visitors – at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The reason for the smackdown? A Russian judge ruled that “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships” would “undermine the security of Russian society.” Mmmkay, Felicia. By June 2013, Russian lawmakers passed a law to “impose fines for providing information about the gay community to minors,” and foreign citizens

were being taken into custody for violating the bans. It all – pardon the pun – sort of snowballed from there. Thankfully, the world wasn’t taking any B.S. from Putin and his henchmen, and a show of solidarity for LGBT athletes (and the community as a whole) was displayed throughout the games across the globe.
3. COUNTRY MUSIC HAD ITS OWN COMING OUT DAY – BUT NOBODY GOT THE MEMO Country crooner Ty Herndon – who rose to the top of the charts in the mid-1990s – unexpectedly shook things up in Nashville and beyond when he came out in an interview in People magazine this past November to promote his aptly-titled new album, Lies I Told Myself. In the interview, Herndon, who was married twice before to women, came clean about his troubled past (his rap sheet is cray, y’all) and revealed that he’s been all booed up with a man named Matt for the past few years – all the while inspiring another country singer to breakthrough the closet doors the very same day. Fellow artist Billy Gilman, who you might remember as the 11-year-old who wowed the world with his debut single “One Voice” back in 2000, revealed his sexuality in a YouTube video, giving credit for his newfound confidence to Herndon. Country icons Ricky Scaggs and LeAnn Rimes have since publicly supported the duo, who will hopefully inspire other entertainers to step out from the shadows.
4. STRAIGHT DUDES ANONYMOUSLY ADMIT THAT THEY SECRETLY WATCH GAY PORN As if you didn’t already suspect, heterosexual men are watching gay porn in droves – even if they won’t publicly admit it. According to Queerty, Reddit user “father_fig” posted a question to the community asking straight dudes if they “watch gay porn as a fetish rather than an aspect of your sexual orientation.” It didn’t take
long for the thread to explode with anonymous admissions from horny bros who sometimes like to get off watching other dudes get it on. The thread received more than 75 comments/confessions, the awesomest of which came from this straight shooter: “I watch gay porn because my dick tells me that’s what I want to be watching. I’m not gay; I just sometimes get this urge that says ‘watch a man rail another dude in the ass.’” Touché; welcome to the club, buddy.
5. NINETEEN MORE STATES LICENSE GAY MARRIAGE, BRINGING TOTAL TO 35 Since 2004 – when Massachusetts became the first state to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples – the fight for marriage equality steadily made progress, giving homosexual couples in certain states access to wedded bliss. Fast forward 10 years later and the campaign moves along at bullet speed, picking up 19 more states with legalized gay marriage on the books this year alone. As of press time, the total number of states that allow same-sex marriage stood at 35, and five more with stayed rulings will likely follow suit in the near future. At this rate, it won’t be long before the same-sex couples can say ‘I do’ all over the United States, and then go home and fight about who emptied the dishwasher last.
6. SEEMINGLY STRAIGHT CELEBS GET SUPER GAY-FRIENDLY TO WOO DEMOGRAPHIC If it seems like everywhere you went on the Internet over the past few months, Nick Jonas – former boy-bander and purity-ring wearer – was pining for your attention (like grabbing his crotch; don’t act like you didn’t look), you’re not alone. The now-solo artist launched a very gay-friendly campaign to promote his eponymous new album, but while he was winning over some of the LGBT community with his new singles

(but mostly his abs), he offended others for his alleged gay-baiting marketing tactics. And he’s not the only one. TV host Mario Lopez, actor James Franco, One Direction’s Harry Styles, and up-and-coming Australian actor Brenton Thwaites have all been accused of the offense recently – which, let’s get real here, if they’re showing a little skin while they’re at it, is it really that offensive?
7. PETITION CREATED TO END THE DUGGARS’ REALITY REIGN AFTER ANTI-GAY ACTIONS Scientific anomalies and selfcontained cult the Duggar Family, whose reality show 19 Kids and Counting is a huge hit for TV’s TLC, came under fire for a number of alleged anti-LGBT moves over the past year. Matriarch Michelle Duggar was accused of recording an automated call urging her hometown voters to repeal a law that would protect LGBT people from being evicted or fired based on their sexual orientation; son Josh has taken a job with the notoriously anti-gay Family Research Center; and the most recent eyebrow-raiser includes accusations that the family deleted Facebook photos of same-sex couples kissing each other, despite the Duggars’ call for Facebook users to post such images to celebrate their daughter Jessa’s marriage. The latter sparked a petition that calls for TLC to cancel the Duggars’ TV show – which probably won’t make a lick of difference considering that that backwoods Duck Dynasty quack is still spreading his hateful gospel all over the airwaves.

The Athletic Man Is Here! 10 Questions with The Athletic Man store! by
RichaRd david chambeRlain
o Walk into The Athletic Man in Fort Lauderdale and you feel like you stepped into a cute little men’s boutique. Beautiful Lucite chandeliers adorn the high ceiling giving touch of sophistication. Tank tops line the walls in every color of the rainbow, from prints to solids. There are shorts for the gym, shorts for running, shorts for swimming, shorts for walking, and of course sexy shorts for answering the door when that hot date arrives at your front door! Oh but wait, they carry jock straps, G-strings, sexy swimwear so it’s more than athletic wear. Recently we caught up with the owners of The Athletic Man, Allen and Jean-Francois for a question and answer session. What makes The Athletic Man store different from other shops? Just walk in and your will understand! We have hundreds of
tanks and thousand of shorts, some amazing swimwear and gym pants from many different great designers who understand a man’s body. Also we are very focused on the way our clothing fits so it’s not just about the look. We really enjoy our customers and we love to give personal attention to each one of them as you would to a good friend! What is the best advice you give to your customers? Take the clothing off the rack and try it on because trying it on is the only way to know how they will fit on you. Different designers have different cuts for the same clothing. All tanks or shorts are not create the same. Designers create clothing with different body types in mind. What is your focus when choosing the lines of clothing you carrying?

Our motto is “Be sexy, be yourself, show it! What that means is everyone wants to be sexy, everyone wants to look good and every one wants to show the parts of their body that are complementary for them. For instance, if someone has very skinny legs you do not want to see him in shorts that are loose around the thigh, a more fitted cut looks better. Before placing an order we chat with the designer to understand his view and we definitively try the clothes to feel the fit. Are your cloths only for the gym? Absolutely not, we live in Florida! Many of your garments can be worn to the gym in the street or in the club. It is up to you. Go out on the drive any night of the week and you will see lots of guys wearing tanks and shorts going to the bars. Showing some skin is always sexy!

A mere thirtyminute drive from the Adrienne Arsht Center’s production of Beauty and the Beast is this touring production of Julie Taymor’s critically acclaimed musical The Lion King. The highest grossing Broadway production of all time is an innovative recreation of the film of the same name. The plot is a reimaging of Hamlet with young Simba having to grow up in order to avenge his father’s death at the hand of sinister Uncle Scar. Simba’s guilt and desire for a carefree lifestyle stand in his way of taking the throne. 8:00 p.m. Broward Center for the Performing Arts. 201 Southwest 5th Ave. Fort Lauderdale. 33312..

TRAVEL
Most LGBT Friendly Vacation Spots By Rick kaRlin
o
Started nearly 40 years ago by a couple of hippies looking to travel through Europe to Asia, Lonely Planet has gone on to become one of the most respected travel guides. Lonely Planet was also one of the first mainstream companies to include guides for the LGBT community. Each year it compiles its “best of” lists and the most welcoming spots for LGBT travelers is among one of the categories. As we start a new year, following are the top five spots in the world. #1 Copenhagen #2 New Zealand #3 Toronto, Canada #4 Palm Springs, California #5 Sitges, Spain The gay-friendly list, like the rest of the series, was compiled “based on topicality, unique experiences and that ‘wow’ factor and if the destination demonstrated inclusiveness & tolerant behavior toward our community, has progressive equal rights laws and, finally, how safe the selection is for the LGBT traveler,” according to Lonely Planet’s Chris Zeiher. “The list is both consciously diverse and, in some cases, a little unexpected.” Copenhagen, Denmark is known as one of the most open-minded communities in Europe. In 2014 Copenhagen named the square adjacent to City Hall Tower “Rainbow Square” in recognition of the quest for equal rights. Check out the nearby Oscar Bar & Café (Rådhuspladsen 77 1550, +45 3312 0999). For night owls, Nevermind Nightclub is open until at least 6 a.m. (Nørre Voldgade 2, nevermindbar.dk). Visit in August 11-15 for Copenhagen Pride or in October for MIX Copenhagen, a LGBT Film Festival (Date TBA). In 1998, New Zealand was the first nation to adopt the label of “gay/lesbian friendly” when referring to businesses and accommodations. Gay Ski Week, part of Winter Pride, Queenstown, has become a perennial

Copenhagen, Denmark favorite. Don’t forget, that like other countries “down-under” New Zealand’s winter is our summer, so the event takes place in late July or early August (gayskiweekqt.com). In Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, check out Eagle (259 Karangahape Rd., 09-309-4979), which is laid back early, but gets wild late at night, or the ultra-butch, Urge (490 Karangahape Rd, 09-307-2155). Toronto continues to be a beacon for the LGBT travelers in North America. The community is The Village, located at the intersection of Church and Wellesley. Woody’s (467 Church St., 416-972-0887) is a Toronto staple and you may recognize it from “Queer As Folk.” Two of the biggest events are “Halloweek,” a wicked weeklong celebration and June’s Pride Week; ten days of queer celebration that turns streets into parades and parking lots into parties. The highest ranking U.S. city, Palm Springs, is a sun-seekers’ paradise where the sun shines almost all year. In addition to outposts of local favorites Alibi (369 N. Palm Canyon Dr., 760-325-5533) and Hunter’s (302 theguymag

East Arenas Rd., 760-323-0700), check out the campy Toucans Tiki Lounge (2100 N. Palm Canyon Dr., 760-416-7584) or Score (301 E. Arenas Rd., 760-327-0753). Upcoming events include International Bear Convergence, Feb. 12-16. Sept. 17-20, it’s the Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and lesbians from around the world will converge on Palm Springs Apr. 1-5 for the Dinah Shore weekend. Right after that, it’s the Coachella music fest, spanning two weekends, Apr. 12-19. Sitges, Spain is a coastal town that has become one of the “Big Four” destinations for queer travelers. The preponderance of beautiful, often clothing-optional, beaches is one reason, as is the fact that the village enjoys a unique microclimate with more than 300 days of sunshine per year. Often touted as the “St Tropez” of Spain, Sitges is an exclusive but not an expensive resort. There are more than 35 LGBT clubs, restaurants and guesthouses crammed into this relatively small town. The best time to visit is from end of spring, through the end of summer. There are two main gay beaches. La Platja share with us on guymag.net
de la Bossa Rodona, right at the center of town, across from the hotels La Niña and Calipolis. The other, Playa del Muerto, is a nude beach known for heavy cruising. It’s a 45 minute walk from town, or take a taxi to the end of the boulevard (ask driver for club Atlantida), and then walk 15 minutes along the railway track. After a day at the beach party at Club Azul (Carrer Sant Bonaventura, 10), the kinky Dark Sitges Bar (Carrer Bonaire, 14) and the trendy Privilege Music Bar (Bonaire 24). The LGBT event calendar kicks off Feb. 1018 with Carnival and revs up right around Bear Week (Apr. 30-May 4), when all of the bars and clubs are open daily, the beaches are busy and the season is in full swing. Sitges Gay Pride takes place from June 18-22 and a gay beach party is held every Thursday during July and Aug. The summer season winds up with Festa Major at the end of Aug. In our next issue, we’ll look at the remaining five cities rounding out Lonely Planet’s Top 10 LGBT welcoming travel destinations. Until then, have a happy and safe New Year. theguymag

SCREEN SAVOR
14 best of 2014 BY
GREGG SHAPIRO
o
Not the best year for film by a long shot, 2014 wasn’t the worst year either. As in recent years, indie films, ranging from comedies to dramas to docs, were the place to look for the best of what was out at your favorite art house or multiplex. A few big budget Hollywood blockbusters kept us entertained, but they also disappointed in record numbers (Is the Transformers franchise at an end yet? How could Into The Woods get so tangled in its own branches?). Below is a list of the fourteen best movies of 2014, along with some honorable mentions, as well as a few of the very worst of the year.
1 Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (Fox Searchlight) – Don’t call it Michael Keaton’s comeback, call it his breakthrough. Inventive and hallucinogenic,
with potshots at Hollywood and Broadway, as well as a mini-tribute to Raymond Carver, Birdman soars.
2 Boyhood (IFC) – Richard Linklater’s
groundbreaking cinematic achievement is original and epic. Let the imitations begin.
3 The Grand Budapest Hotel (Fox Searchlight) – Wes Anderson’s next logical (and magical) step after Moonrise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next. 4 Love Is Strange (Sony Pictures Classics) – As timely as it is timeless, the second installment in Ira Sach’s New York real estate trilogy, features an Oscar-worthy performance by John Lithgow.
made comic book movies safe for comic book haters and …Peabody… was the most subversively queer kids movie of the year.
8 The Way He Looks (Strand) – A different kind of coming out/love story about a blind gay teen’s first crush. 9 Chef (Open Road) / The HundredFoot Journey (Touchstone/DreamWorks) (tie) – Foodies had a couple of tasty treats this year to satisfy their cravings for epicurean entertainment. Helen Mirren served up snooty French realness in the The Hundred-Foot Journey, while writer/director/actor Jon Favreau shared the screen with a food truck. 10 The Normal Heart (HBO) – No, The Normal Heart never made it to the big screen (thanks to Barbra Streisand), but Ryan Murphy’s brave film adaptation found a home on cable, and in the process probably reached an even broader (and grateful) audience.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (Courtesy of Fox Searchlight)
5 Obvious Child (A24) and The Skeleton Twins (Roadside Attractions) (tie) – Comedy took a bold leap forward in 2014, and these two daring movies are prime examples. Joni Mitchell said it best when she sang, “laughing and crying/You know it’s the same release.” Brava Jenny Slate! Bravo Bill Hader! 6 Ida (Music Box Films) – Pawel Pawlikowski’s post-Holocaust drama is nothing short of a work of art. Almost every black and white frame is worthy of exhibition in a gallery and the screenplay (co-written by Pawlikowski) is haunting and brilliant. 7 Guardians of the Galaxy (Marvel) / Mr. Peabody and Sherman (DreamWorks Animation) (tie) – If you wanted to have fun at the movies, these were the two to see. Galaxy share with us on guymag.net
11 The Fault In Our Stars (Fox 2000) – The perfect antidote to dystopian Y/A lit movie adaptations (see The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Giver, The Maze Runner, et al), Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort play the most appealing star-crossed lovers since Romeo and Juliet.\ Honorable mention: The Imitation Game, St. Vincent, Big Hero 6, Locke, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Belle, Life Itself, Gone Girl, Get On Up, Neighbors Simply the worst: Winter’s Tale (WB): Is there anything worse than an abysmal film adaptation of a beloved novel? Jersey Boys (WB): Is there anything worse than an abysmal film adaptation of a beloved (jukebox) stage musical? Maybe Clint Eastwood should stay away from all cameras, period. Maleficent (Disney): Is there anything worse than a failed attempt at bringing a cartoon character to life in an unpleasant live action film adaptation? Maybe Angelina Jolie should stay behind the camera. America: Imagine the World Without Her (Lionsgate): Pitiful propaganda for Fox News junkies from goony right-wing nut job Dinesh D’Souza. theguymag

THE FRIVOLIST
GOING HALFSIES 5 New Year’s Resolutions to Make (and 5 Not to Make) BY
MIKEY ROX
Making New Year’s resolutions is a tradition in which many of us partake but very few follow through. The reason for that annual abandonment of our would-be positive pursuits? We’re setting lofty, hard-to-obtain goals without any real plan of action. This year, think long and hard about your resolutions and how to reasonably achieve them — then chart out your plan of attack. Here are few ideas on what to concentrate on for resolution success in 2015, and a few commonly made goals that aren’t worth your time or energy.
MAKE THESE 5 RESOLUTIONS
1
Save X Dollars by X Date
Instead of this year saying that you’re going to “save more money,” choose an actual dollar amount and make a list of real ways you can reach it. Perhaps you can cut a few non-essential expenses from your budget, have a portion of your paycheck direct deposited to your savings account, or take on a few side gigs or a part-time job if you have the extra time. It’ll also help to assign that savings goal to a specific intention, like paying off debt, making an investment, or going on vacation. By having a well-mapped outline of how you intend to stick to this resolution (with obtainable deadlines to meet), you’re much likelier to stay on track than if you broadly decide to simply “increase your savings.”
2
Read X Books You’ve Never Read
Because I’m at my computer or on my phone all day, I get all of my news and other content online – and I’m
54
share with us on guymag.net
theguymag
sure plenty of you do, too. But while quick clips and snippets of current events are convenient, the Internet doesn’t compare to having a real book in your hands. Last year, instead of saying that I wanted to “read more books,” I set a goal of reading three new books from January to December. That may seem like a low number, but that’s what I decided I could reasonably handle (especially considering that I read zero books the year before). Because I had an actual figure in my head (with start dates for each book), I completed that resolution successfully. If you need more reasons to adopt this resolution and keep it, consider the fact that reading books has several scientifically proven health benefits, like stress reduction, memory improvement, and improved focus and concentration. You won’t hear anybody say that about spending the majority of your time surfing the web. theguymag

3
Set a Fitness Goal – Like Training for a 10K
Like the two resolutions above, generalizing your fitness-inspired declaration as “exercise more” is setting you up for failure. When will you start exercising more? Do you have a workout partner? Why do you want to work on your fitness? Do you even have a gym membership? You can work all these questions out on your own, but the most important part of your resolution to get fit is to have a purpose and a plan for it. For instance, let’s say you want to participate in a 10K this year. If the race isn’t until May, you have five months to get your body ready for the 6.2mile run. To prepare, schedule the dates and times you plan to run (and treat it like any other appointment!) with a mini-goal of how many miles to reach each week. If you’re not in the greatest shape, start with one mile three times a week for a couple weeks, and gradually push yourself farther week after week until you’ve conditioned yourself to run a 10K. You can do it. I was a longtime smoker who only quit earlier this year. When I kicked the habit, I set a personal goal to run a 10K – and I’ve run several of them since the end of last summer. Now I’ve got my eye on a half-marathon this spring or summer, a feat that wasn’t in my realm of possibility a year ago and in which I had no interest, to be honest. What a difference a bit of motivation and commitment make.
4
Pick a Bad Habit to Concentrate on Curbing
Is there something you do that you don’t like about yourself? Perhaps it’s biting your fingernails, only brushing your teeth once a day, or maybe it’s drinking a bit too much. Personally, I’m guilty of the latter, so I know how difficult it is to keep this resolution intact for a week, let alone an entire year. No matter share with us on guymag.net
the difficulty, however, if you want to change something about yourself, you first have to be conscious of it and then make a concerted effort to curb it. For my part, I plan to add more evening gym time to my schedule to reduce the opportunity to hit the bar (I live in NYC, so they’re very easily accessed) or participate in something productive opposed to destructive. That could be baking at home for my neighbors or seeing a movie – whatever it takes to not imbibe. They say it only takes about three weeks to form a new habit, so if you can make your new habit not doing the old one for the first 21 days of January, you’re off to a great start.
5
Repair a Relationship That’s Broken
We’ve all hurt somebody’s feelings to the point that the relationship has been severely damaged (OK, maybe not all of us; I’m sure there are a few people left in the world who aren’t assholes), and most of us have been hurt badly enough that we’ve decided to steer clear of someone. It’s all part of real life. But if you want to repair a broken relationship, it’s possible – considering the other person feels the same way. The first step is to consider the circumstances. Were you the offender or the offended? If you were the former, it’s your responsibility to reach out with your _genuine_ apology, only after you’ve accepted what you’ve done and are committed to keeping your apology free of “but”s. And what I mean by that is that it’s not a valid apology if you haven’t fully accepted the blame. On the flip side, if you’ve been offended and you want someone to say they’re sorry to you, it’s OK to make it known that you’ve been hurt, but don’t expect the outcome for which you’re hoping. The other person’s apology is not up to you, and there’s nothing you can do about it. If they want to be part of your life, they will. If they don’t, good riddance.

OMIT THESE 5 RESOLUTIONS Pursue a Daily Act of Random Kindness
This is an admirable goal, I admit, but it’s nowhere near remotely pragmatic. There are so many reasons why you can’t keep this up for a year – 365 of them, to be exact – that you’ve lost the battle to be a good Samaritan before it’s even begun. You’ll get sick this year, you’ll be hungover this year, and you’ll have a very bad day this year – and all you’ll want to do is tell people to shove it. Don’t force yourself to do something nice when you don’t want to, and definitely not on a daily basis. Instead, engage in a more realistic charitable pursuit, like deciding to donate your old coats to a homeless shelter, volunteering to serve a holiday meal to the needy, or adopting a pet if you’re ready to be a responsible parent. One good deed may beget another good deed down the line, but you don’t have to press it. Stay Away From Social Media
If you have the resolve to completely abandon social media, I’ll pat you on the back… then call you a liar behind it. The truth is – whether we like it or not – we live in a society that now thrives on social media. This method of communication isn’t going away anytime soon, and any attempts to avoid it altogether are futile. Alas, if you feel like you need a break from social media, take it. Maybe it’s a week; maybe it’s a month. Set whatever goal you think you can handle, remove the temptation to participate from your phone and other devices, and enjoy a yesteryear respite for a spell. You’ll come back eventually, and that’s fine, but you don’t need to beat yourself up about breaking a promise that’s nearly impossible to keep. Quit Smoking and/or Drinking
The struggle is real with these two common resolutions that are made with good intentions but all too often end in disappointment and self-loathing. When you cut yourself off from something you love cold turkey, the psychological (and often times physical) craving for it increases inexplicably. Thus, don’t decide that you’re going to quit drinking or smoking as a blanket goal. Instead, take the initial steps to curb the habit like I mentioned in the first half of this piece. Add more productive activities
56
share with us on guymag.net
theguymag
to your schedule at prime bar times so you’re otherwise engaged, and pick up smoking cessation items from the store or ask your doctor for medication that can help. Commit to smoking and drinking less (with help if you need it; no shame in that) and the ability to quit altogether (if that’s what you want) will come much easier. Eat Healthier
A resolution to consume more nutritious food doesn’t begin with eating – it begins with shopping. If you buy healthier food and only healthier food, it’ll be the only food you have in the house; you have no choice but to eat healthy under that regimen. On the contrary, if you have even one delicious, fatty snack in your house with a goal to eat healthier, you’ll be stuffing your face the first few days of January. Ah, human nature. Additionally, you can create a list of healthy recipes to make during the week – I plan two weeks of recipes on a calendar a few days in advance – and build your shopping list with only the ingredients you need for those dishes. After a few weeks, you’ll find that it’s not very difficult to eat healthy when you’ve planned for it. Stop Obsessing About…
You know what happens when you make a resolution to stop obsessing about something? You think about it even more because you’ve made a big deal about resolving not to do it. This is the definition of counterproductive, and it must be stopped. Whether it’s an ex-boyfriend who dumped you, something mean you said to someone that you now regret, or an upcoming event that’s causing you anxiety, you need to find a solution to the problem instead of trying to put it out of your mind. However you reach a solution will depend on you, but you need to get over whatever it is and move on with your life. You take the good, you take the bad, you take ’em both and there you have… yep, these are the facts of life, folks; accept, resolve, start a New Year.
