D

irect from her west coast tour, airhostess Pam Ann returns to Miami with her raunchiest comedy show yet. Described by Madonna as “cruelly funny”, Pam Ann’s one-woman act pokes fun at air travel and all the deliciously alarming incidents plaguing the world’s airline industry. From the grounding of Boeing’s Dreamliner to Emirates Airlines’ door blowing open at 37,000 feet, the airhostess comedian identifies the individual quirks of the biggest international airlines (and their stereotypes) and mixes in a generous dose of camp, humor and, most of all, glamour. See her live for when Pam Ann: Cockpit crash lands into Colony Theatre for two nights: Thursday, June 6th and Friday. June 7th. 16

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Were you funny kid? Pam Ann: Not at all. I was incredibly shy. I wanted to be an Olympic figure skater. When did you begin to think you might be a good comedian? The first time I realized I was funny was in grade school when I played a mute revolving door in an amateur play. The play was so boring, most parents walked out. To give it some “oomph,” I decided to imitate all the cast members as they walked through my revolving door. You could say I upstaged them. I got great reviews! One said, “The play was awful but the revolving door was hysterical”. Were your parents supportive of your desire to make people laugh for a living? They were supportive of anything, really. As long as I was earning money, paying the rent and I was ok, that’s all they cared about. Do you remember the first time you got on a stage in front of an audience? Hell yeah, it was petrifying. I wanted someone to push me down stairs so I would break a leg. Were you an instant smash? It was an instant smash of sorts. The shows sold out and people loved it, although the act needed a lot of work. My first review read “style over substance”. I was thrilled with that and it was true.

Why is Pam Ann so fascinated with sex and drugs? Flying is very lonely. Sex plays a big role in the life of an international airhostess. What is a girl to do on a layover in Rio de Janeiro? Drugs have got Pam Ann through many back to backs from JFK to Singapore. Would Pam Ann get along with Patsy and Edina from “Absolutely Fabulous?” They would get on famously! Imagine the three of them together? It would be like a gay man’s fantasy. You know they’re working on “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.” Wow, that’s awesome! I would love to see it! Is it true you’re working on “Pam Ann: The Movie?” Yes, it is true. Think the “Hangover” meets “Austin Powers” with a splash of “Serial Mom,” set on a 1970’s airplane disaster movie. Oh, and throw in the pilot Whip from the movie “Flight.” Fashion is a big part of Pam Ann. In the new show, she sports costumes by designer Garo Sparo? I heard about Garo Sparo through the very glamorous Amanda Lepore. She always looks flawless, so I knew he would understand Pam Ann. Did he have his own vision for Pam Ann? Yes, it’s a new sexy, fabulous, skinny Pam Ann with lots of color and tits.

How did you develop the character of Pam Ann? Pam Ann has developed over the years as I’ve traveled from country to country. My main source of material is from my own life experiences and observations traveling the world. It’s almost art imitating life now.

How has Pam Ann changed through the years? She never used to swear or be filthy. I know that’s hard to believe! My language has gotten more aggressive and dirty over the years. It’s from working in gay clubs all over London. I’ve developed a lot of bad habits.

Is the sixties influence intentional? Growing up, my mum always groomed herself to an inch of her life, decked out in all the latest fashions. Her look really inspired me, and still does. I have also always loved the women from the golden age of flying. They had a class you can’t emulate today. Boarding a Boeing back then meant style, class and glamour.

What are you most looking forward to in your USA tour? I love American audiences. They are my favorite in the entire world. I just love how positive, confident, optimistic and vocal they are here in America. They come with massive smiles and are ready to have a good time.

Did you expect Pam Ann to be such a hit? No, I actually expected another character I was working on to be a bigger hit. ‘Tragina’ was her name. She lived in the club world. Pam Ann was a back up character.

guymag.net

Will you be bringing along your trolley to Miami? “Touch trolley, run to galley”…yes my trolley will be on board! Pam Ann performs Colony Theatre June 6th and 7th. Great seats still available at Reactionshows.com.

From 7-10 p.m., guests will be able to sample the 16 battling burgers. Wash down your gourmet grub with drinks from Barefoot Winery and Jack Daniel’s or choose from a wide selection of beers, including specialty and craft. Latrice Royale: Diversity Is Fierce oLatrice (expletive) Royale is equal parts fierce and entertaining. The Ru Paul Season 4 drag queen says her motto is, “diversity is the key to captivating an audience.” Thankfully, it works for the performer who is now somewhat rooted in the south Florida scene. Her pit-stop at Boom is between a slew of summer performances, which stretch across the country from New York to Portland. Catch her in this intimate setting before she’s booked solid! 10 p.m. Boom. 2232 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, 33305.

oEnglish rocker Peter Frampton has been performing for over 50 years now. His use of a vocalbox (see “Do You Feel Like We Do”) has seemingly inspired artists such as Daft Punk to recreate the robotic, futuristic sound. “Frampton Comes Alive!” was Frampton’s breakthrough success, which landed him on the cover of Rolling Stones in April of 1976. His 2007 album, “Fingerprints,” earned a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. The “Baby, I Love Your Way” singer’s tour – called “Guitar Circus” – will be making a pit stop here in sunny south Florida, along with support from Grammy-winning artist Robert Cray. 8 p.m. Hard Rock Live. 1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, 33314.

Grand Opening Of Trixie II oTrixie II’s grand opening will be filled with all sorts of tranny goodness. After the original Trixie’s closed down, ideas for Trixie II began to form, and now, two and a half years later, that afterthought has become a reality. The original club was one of south Florida’s biggest transgender clubs, not to mention it was the only one in Hollywood. Trixie’s II hopes to revive the heart and soul that made its predecessor so popular among the LGBT community. 7 p.m. Trixie II 1322 N Dixie Hwy, Hollywood, 33020. DINING

13 Even Great Juju on the Drive BY RICHARD DAVID CHAMBERLAIN

o

There’s a lot to love about 13 Even, the new craft beer and tapas joint that recently opened on Wilton Drive near NE 20th Street. In what was last a performance space called Bailey’s and before that a blink-of-an-eye called Gelato Martini Lounge, 13 Even is the newest offering from New Moon’s Carol Moran and life-partner Nancy Goldwin. Plus, number one: it is a product of love, and you sense that from the moment you walk inside the space. No need for a “Welcome Mat” here. There air itself seems to be saying “hello.” On the other hand, it probably has a lot to do with the craft beers on tap, which we highly recommend you sample and contrast. The Left Hand Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewery in Colorado ($5) is a nearly black brew with a thick head that flavors the room with the aroma of that has a citrus after-taste that refreshes the palate chocolate and coffee and sweet bread biscuits. TRAVEL

Key West’s Island House Resort—Part I A Sinful Climax at the End of the Road BY ROBERT ELIAS DEATON

o

The overseas highway, built in late 1930s, as the southernmost leg of the US 1, is the most colorful way to get to Key West, that last remnant of civilization before hitting a string of uninhabited barrier keys that lay like a necklace dotting the Atlantic and parts of the Gulf of Mexico. For much of its 113 miles of roadway linked by 42 bridges, it’s a one-lane affair where 55 mph is the recommended speed. Not that much goes by the book here. Built on coral bedrock, often atop remains of the Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railroad, the highway itself is an engineering marvel. And the sights along the way to Key West give even the most jaded traveller a sense of freedom. From tiny Key Deer the size of small dogs to incredible Giant Heron with four-feet wingspans, this is a an remarkably fertile seascape of color, form, vegetation and wildlife so active that there isn’t a second that you won’t find something shadowed against a sky so blue that not even the cotton candy clouds can compete. It is somehow appropriate that after the 3 hour and 45-minute journey from Fort Lauderdale, leaving all this bounty of sea and nature behind for the rough-aroundthe-edges Bohemian rhapsody that is Key West would be a let down. And so it would be if it weren’t for the oasis known as the Island House Resort (1129 Fleming St, Key West, FL 33040, 800-890-6284). Drive down the small alleyway streets of Key West, past the tourist vendors and T-shirt shops, the bars with alongside the Conch Train with its tourists, cameras poised and oversized hats shielded from the sun, and arrive at this all-male, private compound of lush tropical gardens surrounding a large clothing-optional pool heated by the sun to the perfect walk in temperature that soothes as much as it invigorates. You reach the front desk of this resort by a short brick path up an alleyway off of Fleming Street just west of White Street. The front desk is contained within a small comfortable lobby and populated with smiling faces that immediately guymag.net

nurture the road weary traveler in you. Just off the lobby is a completely, if petite fitness center with all the essentials to keep you tight and toned, plus the additional features of a sauna, steam, and Jacuzzi where magic has been known to happen. The rooms are all decorated in a chocolate brown, gold and beige theme that says masculine, sophisticated and luxurious in the same breath. The 300-count ironed linens, the thick towels, the flat screen TVs, the powerful showers, and the L’Occitane bath lotions and shampoos are standard whether you select the smallest accommodations, with shared bath priced at a low-end $99 during the summer months, to a standard room with queen bed and private bath at $259, to the grander double queen rooms with writing desk, sitting area, refrigerator, wet bar and deluxe walkin closet priced at $359 during the off season. We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment, with its own leather sectional sofa and large flatscreen,

full kitchen, king size bed and full bath area, that tallies a sweet $359, or bring the whole family and occupy the two-bedroom apartment with its king and queen beds at $379. Either unit comes with private parking, always at a premium on the tight streets of the Key. Next week, we’ll fill you in on the various free events staged weekly at the “House,” including a Sunday raffle orchestrated by the always friend Richard. Until then…

FITNESS

Stay Healthy and Fabulous: It’s Easy! BY TOM

BONANTI

o

Is there some dynamite magical routine that you can plug into this summer to get super fit and buffed? Is there a miracle supplement or pill you can take to say eternally young and healthy? The answer to both questions is an emphatic “no,” although staying well and looking good is easier than you think. Embrace this summer by adhering to a few simple habits that are guaranteed to deliver excellent results. First, remember to stay active throughout the day. Exercise helps you stay in shape and lose weight. It also helps to lower your risk for chronic diseases and keeps your mind clear and sharp. If you’re just beginning, try a program of light to moderate cardio (cycling, swimming, walking) two to three times a week for 30 - 45 minutes. Weight training for as little as two times per week for 20 30 minutes will help maintain and even build lean muscle. If you’re already exercising, try varying your routine in the gym by adding some new exercises. Add an outdoor activity like interval training in the park or running along the beach to your cardio program. Take the stairs at work. Park your car farther away from the front door so that you have a nice little walk before you start the day. Second, shun cigarettes. Smoking is one topic health experts all agree on, and their advice is clear: Don’t start, or if you smoke already, quit now! Quitting smoking has its advantages whether you’re in your 30s, 40s or 50s. You don’t have to do it alone. There are plenty of stop-smoking resources out there, and many are free. Remember, second hand smoke is also lethal so stay out of clubs and bars where the air is heavy with cigarette exhaust. There’s nothing like clean, fresh air! Third, the way you eat is key to staying healthy and looking fabulous – even more than you know! Cut back on your portions. Consume a wide array of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Eliminate saturated fats, junk foods and processed meats from your diet. guymag.net

Almost immediately you’ll see the results in the mirror, and you’ll reduce the risk for heart disease and cancer drastically. Fourth, learn to beat stress. Constant stress can pose serious health hazards including heart disease, hormonal imbalances, weight gain and depression. Stop stagnating over things you can’t change. This summer get up, get out, and get moving. Yoga, meditation, massage and physical activity can alleviate stress and make you more mindful of your present blessings. Last, have some fun as you try to become more active this summer. Go swimming, attend pool parties, jog on the beach, or take a spa day. Nothing is more important than your own health and well being. This summer contact TrainerTomB@aol. com for more tips on how to rev up your workouts and enjoy yourself while doing it! It’s easier than you think.
