Labor Day Weekend Party Planner New York WE Party: Airlines
Launched in Madrid four years ago, WE Party has quickly become one of the most popular party spectaculars of all time, touring the world with elaborate productions. It was founded on the simple principal that every party should be about the people who attend. “WE are the party,” if you will. This Labor Day weekend, the party flies into the Big Apple for an once-in-a-lifetime special event at Hammerstein Ballroom. The legendary concert hall will be transformed into a magnificent airport, with check-in counters, gates, concessions, special loungesand sexy stripping stewards. There will even be a security check. That’s right: There will be baggage claim, terminal announcements (written by the hilarious Bruce Vilanch), their very own Mile High Club, and even T&A Security. We’re sure you’ll enjoy being screened by these agents. The party plans to re-create the airport experience, with some fun twists and turns along the way. Lock your seats in the upright position and prepare to take off for the ride of your life as WE Party: Airlines lands into New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday August 31st. Book your first class or economy tickets now at wepartyairlines.com
Fort Lauderdale & Miami: Black Party & Urge
Labor Day weekend never disappoints in South Florida. Who doesn’t love a nice sandy beach on a hot summer day? Promoter Gary Santis is known for his annual White Party and well as his Labor Day weekend Black Party. Sunday’s Black Party (now in its 15th year), encourages attendees to indulge in their dark side, requesting you to rock your best “sexy wear or fetish attire.” This year’s party is “erotic carnival” themed, so we can only imagine what kind of a party it’s going to be. With live “erotic cirque acts” and adult film stars, you’re going to be entertained from the time you walk in the door until they turn the house lights on. Join host Diva Kitty Meow and DJ Manny Lehman for a wild night you won’t forget. To learn more go to facebook.com/ManorComplex ‘Urge’ took place earlier this year at a very crowded Cameo Nightclub during the Winter Party Festival in Miami Beach. This Labor Day weekend, Urge is returning to Miami Beach for another night of crazy fun. DJ Abel will be back to spin again,

and this time he will be bringing along Grammy nominated DJ/producer, Chris Cox. The tickets are limited and early bird specials are still available, so don’t wait too long. For more information visit urgemiami.com
New Orleans: Southern Decadence
In case you aren’t familiar (shame on you), Southern Decadence is essentially the gay version of Mardi Gras. It’s the largest gay event in New Orleans, and this year marks its 42nd anniversary. The street parties allegedly run nonstop (literally), with various circuit parties taking place each night. Most of the events are in the French Quarter, so staying nearby is a must. While all of the street parties are free, the festival does offer a weekend pass that’s good for admission to The Bourbon Pub and The Parade, two of the biggest Labor Day weekend spots in the area, known for their high-tech production circuit parties. Drag superstar and porn mogul Chi Chi LaRue is even scheduled to host a “strip off” event at club Oz. Yes, Chi Chi LaRue is still a working girl. Ticket pricing and additional information can be found at southerndecadence.net
Washington, DC: Gay Softball World Series 2013 The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance Open Division is a nonprofit, international sports organization made up of men and women dedicated to promoting amateur athletics for the LGBT community. Formed in 1977, NAGAAA was created to “encourage the participation of gay men and lesbians in organized softball competition,” according to the organization’s official site. Over 800 teams across the United States and Canada are members of NAGAAA, and will be representing these leagues as they participate in the Gay Softball World Series. Hosted in a different member’s city each year, the series will be making its stop in Washington D.C. In 2013. The tournament is a great alternative to a typical party scene, especially in a time when gay athletes are finally starting to receive the recognition they deserve. The fact that it’s taking place in our nation’s capital this year makes the tournament all the more empowering. Join fellow baseball fans to cheer on your favorite team and to strengthen bonds with fellow members of your community. Visit dcseries2013.com fore more information. guymagtube

THE WEEK
The Backstreet Boys, Cashetta and Marc Anthony

The Art of Wine and Food o Instead of the traditional food and wine pairing, this month’s ‘Art of Wine and Food’ will feature a surprise treat. The Museum of Art’s monthly event will be hosting a special screening of the film “SOMM,” which the museum describes as “a humorous, emotional and illuminating look into the mysterious world of the Court of Master Sommeliers.” The film follows four sommeliers as they try to pass the prestigious Master Sommelier test, which, if passed, allows them access to one of the most prestigious groups in recent history: The Court of Master Sommeliers. In addition to the screening, certified sommelier and wine educator Stephanie Miskew will host the event, with a special guest chef of the month will pair perfect flavors with fine wines. 6:30 p.m. Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. 1 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 33301.

Mark Anthony oGrammy-winning artist Marc Anthony will be bringing some of his salsa skills to the sunny city of Miami this weekend. Selling 12 million albums worldwide is just one of Anthony’s major successes – to name a few, he also purchased a piece of the Miami Dolphins, had two children with Jennifer Lopez, appeared in various acting roles and performed at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Anthony has been performing for over 20 years now, and is currently touring in support of his eleventh studio album, “3.0,” which is his first original salsa album in over ten years. 8 p.m. American Airlines Arena. 601 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, 33132.

Cashetta’s Psychic Cabaret oLocal drag personality Cashetta is transcending traditional drag boundaries with her magic show, which will be making a special appearance at Alibi’s Manchester Room this weekend (she’s been working on the patrons of Blue Moon in Delaware this summer). Cashetta has opened for Cyndi Lauper and has appeared on “The Today Show,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Outlaugh Festival on Wisecrack” with Margaret Cho. Cashetta’s description for the event promises “a fabulous evening of mind reading, magic and mayhem.” Leave the bad juju at home. 10 p.m. Alibi. 2266 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, 33305.
Johnny’s 33rd Anniversary Weekend oJohnny’s 33rd anniversary is here, and to celebrate, the club is offering a pretty wild deal: Free drinks and free entry from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (and Sunday if you like their Facebook page). The bar has been providing live dancers for over three decades now, and we thank them for it. Who doesn’t like a little meat with their drinks? For access to free Sunday night drinks or for any other information, visit the club’s page at facebook. com/johnnysfans. Open 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. 2 a.m. on Sunday. Opening Reception for Valyn Calhoun’s Exhibit oLocal photographer Valyn Calhoun is an interesting person. His work usually features erotic portraits, and focuses on themes of homoeroticism, fetishism, nightlife and fashion, all highly stylized and eye-catching. For just over a month, a collection based on Valyn will be on exhibit at Boynton Beach’s ActivistArtistA Gallery. The exhibit will feature a series of self portraits as well as some portraits of Valyn taken by photographer Rita Baum. The promotional image, one of Baum’s portraits of Calhoun, is anything but ordinary, and has been causing quite a commotion, even within the artistic community. Naked, wearing an unidentified white fur coat, Calhoun’s hand, covered in blood, rests against his cheek. The image is calming yet disturbing. Peaceful but simultaneously violent. Though the exhibition is the talk of the town, the real party is the opening exhibit. With live music, food and exotic leatherwear and jewels for sale, the exhibit has turned into a fullblown party. 7 p.m. ActivistArtistA Gallery. 422 W Industrial Ave, Boynton Beach, 33426.
Bear Invasion at Boom o The bear invasion is almost upon us. South Florida welcomes back ‘Bear Invasion’ to Boom, where the previous invasion played out to great success. The goal of the event is simple – “to bring together like-minded men and their admirers for a night of hot, friendly, sexy fun,” according to the official event page. The party has four simple rules: Check your attitude at the door, be nice, have fun, and finally, don’t judge them and they “won’t eat you.” Their motto? “Mo’ bears is mo’ better.” 9 p.m. Boom Wilton Manors. 2232 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, 33305.

Backstreet’s Back oHere it is – the day you’ve been waiting for. You’ve thought about it before. Okay, maybe you’ve been consistently thinking of it. Maybe your boyfriend broke up with you when they walked into your room and saw the posters, but you just can’t help it. You love the Backstreet Boys. It’s okay, we do too. We still have our signed posters framed, proudly displayed on our office walls. We even thought about bringing

back the nylon tear-away pants from the 90s/00s, but we knew it wouldn’t slide on the drive. You are not alone in your addiction to 90s boy bands. Hell, there’s even a Backstreet Boys cruise that departs out of South Florida every year. Well, now you don’t have to be seabound to enjoy the perks. Your favorite boy band is here (you’ll have to patiently wait for that ‘N Sync reunion), and all we can think is, “I want it that way.” 7 p.m. Cruzan Amphitheatre. 601 Sansburys Way, West Palm Beach, 33411.

Gay Games Exhibit oForget the Olympics, the Stonewall National Museum & Archives is currently hosting an exhibit that we should all be atttending--a celebration of the evolution of the Gay Games. Created in 1981 by Olympian Dr. Tom Waddell, the games still continue to this day, every four years, just like the Olympics. Upon inception, Waddell stated, “We feel strongly that the term ‘Olympic’ is integral to what we intend to achieve. Our eight days of cultural events and sport will be a testament to our character and our wholesomeness; arts and athletics within the Olympic format.” The first Gay Games took place in San Francisco August 27 through September 5, 1982, with more than 1,300 participating athletes. To contract how much it has grown over the years, in 2006, over 12,000 participated in the Games. The 2014 Games are scheduled to take place in Cleveland, Ohio. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Stonewall National Museum & Archives. 1300 E Sunrise Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, 33304.

Under Where? o Ramrod’s underwear night is a night for the masses (if you don’t work early Wednesday morning that is). The theme is accessible and fun. Who doesn’t own a decent pair of underwear? Check your pesky clothes at the door (because clothes are so 2012) and get your buns inside for a night of fun. From midnight to 1 a.m., you drink free well liquor and draft beer, just for showing off those skivvies. Seriously. No tricks or strings here (pun intended), just a bunch of men enjoying other men in their underwear. Open until 2 a.m. Ramrod. 1508 NE 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, 33304.

TRAVEL
Jacksonville, FL Out of the Shadow of Fort Lauderdale By Robert Elias Deaton
o
For far too many years, Jacksonville, FL, has been regarded by muscle gods and hairless twinks as the ugly step-sister to Fort Lauderdale. If you haven’t paid a visit up north to our conservative neighbor, it is time to go explore. You’ll find that the party is just revving up with new-found excitement thanks to the gentrification of the Riverside, Avondale and Marco neighborhoods, just teeming with gays and lesbians. Oh, all right, perhaps “teeming” is a bit of an oversell, but as Florida’s largest city, there is absolutely no shortage of sweetie-pies and those who like them. Located along the St. Johns River, the city of 1,300,000 is flourishing economically, with affordable housing, trendy restaurants, and some fine tourist attractions including our favorite the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens (829 Riverside Ave). The Cummer (gotta love that name) has a wide variety of European masters and American impressionists, to be sure. But head outside for the real show. The two-and-a-half acres of outside gardens along the river are a cruising paradise for those in the know. The Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (1 Alltel Stadium Place) was only constructed in 1995, but has recently undergone a $63 million renovation. Among the additions are a 25,000-squarefoot sports bar called the Bud Zone, and a 20,000-squarefoot Patio, as well as newly renovated clubs and suites. Adjacent to the stadium, on the old practice fields (used from 1995 through 2003) is a 400,000-square-foot entertainment zone known as the Pepsi Plaza. For Jaguars game days, this area includes tailgate cabanas for pregame hospitality, a corporate hospitality area, interactive games, and a stage for pregame and postgame entertainment. On our first trip to Jacksonville many years ago, guymag.net
we stayed in the now-defunct Heart of Jacksonville Motel, an absolute dive that served us well for many a one-night stand. We’ve upgraded these days, and highly recommend the Crowne Plaza Jacksonville Riverfront-Downtown (1201 Riverplace Blvd, on S. Main St.). It’s an extremely gay-friendly chain hotel with a 24-hour gym that’s hard to beat for convenience. It’s close to all things relevant, and has an incredibly lavish outdoor pool overlooking the St. John River, complete with glistening bodies from the local muscle set who have taken to using it as their sunning spot du jour. For more diehard training, there is always the dependable Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym (11740 San Jose Blvd) where the men of mass congregate when they’re not showing off their eight-packs on the dance floor at The Metro (849 Willow Branch Ave between Plum and Green) in its Disco Club. Now, here’s the deal. The Metro is actually seven clubs disguised as one, and the dance floor is just the beginning. On weekends, the Boiler Room hosts The Metro’s Dick Dancers, who take it off for tips. In Club Shadows, the fake fems do their impersonations. In the cleverly named Game Room, you’ll find pool tables, arcade and video games. For the more refined gentlemen, there’s the Rainbow Room, a intimate piano bar. Fresh air is a constant at the outdoor Tiki Bar, while Sapphos is The Metro’s very own women’s bar with a full authentically female revue. Don’t ya love it? The one-time Third Dimension 3D has simplified its name and its look. Now called In Cahoots (711 Edison Ave at Park St), the club has a different theme every night, Drag, hip hop, casino nights, and go-go girls should be enough to convince you to check in advance what’s going down. A word to the wise.

FITNESS
How to Plan a Perfect Workout! by Tom
Bonanti
o
Pumping iron makes you look and feel better; a one, two punch that is hard to beat. Of course you need to combine weights, cardio and a sound nutritional strategy in order to build muscle mass, burn fat, and improve cardiovascular health. Unfortunately, life continues to become busier and more complicated and just because you want to get to the gym, doesn’t always mean you will get there. That’s why you need a plan to make the most efficient use of your time when you do exercise. Here are some pointers to help you have that perfect workout. So you’ve made it to the gym before you begin your busy day, or you have finally arrived to workout after completing the daily “grind.” Excellent! Now you need a plan that is in line with some of the basic goals that you have for your body. A few bicep curls here, a bench press there, and never doing your legs or cardio won’t help you obtain the body you want. Hit and miss training leads to frustration. First, every great workout requires a plan. When you join a gym, or even if you are already a member, hit up one of the staff or trainers to take measurements. Find out what your target heart rate is for effective cardiovascular training. Know what muscle groups you are going to train on which days and keep a record of the weight that you lift. Learn a variety of different exercises for each muscle group. Prioritizing your training like this will prevent burnout and enable you to work
guymag.net
each muscle group to its maximum potential. Second, always use proper form. When I am in a gym, I often look around and cringe at the number of guys swinging and jerking large amounts of weight. Without using proper form, you are going to get hurt. Muscles contract and shorten to overcome resistance and create motion. A concerted effort must be made to concentrate on the muscle group you want to handle these chores. Simply put, squeeze the muscle as hard as you can during the shortening (concentric) and holding (isometric) phases, then maintain considerable tension as you allow the muscle to return to its initial position (the eccentric portion of the rep). Remember to breathe in during the easier part of the motion and breathe out during the hardest part. Never jerk or swing weights. Execute each movement slowly and with intention. Third, be a gentleman in the gym. It is one thing to train like an animal, it is quite another thing to act like one. Guys who spit in the drinking fountain, dudes who refuse to flush, and jerks who talk on their cell phones while holding up equipment make me angry. Bring a towel and wipe your sweat off the machinery. Wash your hands frequently during workouts. Remember to be a good comrade. The equipment and locker room belong to everyone. For more tips on planning that perfect workout, contact TrainerTomB@aol.com!
