and Number Ones”)

Everything That I Got” is the first single from the soon-to-be-released dance album, “New and Number Ones,” from longtime Dance Chart-topper Kristine W. The song, released yesterday on Fly Again Music, was co-written by Kristine with Lee Dagger and Marc Jacobs of UK dance group Bimbo Jones—best known for their remixes with Pink, Janet Jackson, Usher, Maroon 5, and Britney Spears, among others.

Kristine W—who has recorded 16 Number One Billboard Dance hits, and ties Mariah Carey for most consecutive Billboard Club Play chart number ones—says that “Everything That I Got” is the first of several tracks on the new album to celebrate the overcoming of adversity. “It’s about persevering, not giving up,” she explains. She powerfully echoes the sentiments of lots of people when she sings, “I still got my pride.” The performer—who was named Billboard Number Three Dance/Club Play Artist of the Decade (2000 to 2009), after Madonna and Beyoncé—says, “The secret to longevity is to love what you do and to keep things new and fresh.” “Everything that I Got” features remixes by a whole new team for Kristine, including Bimbo

Jones, Twisted Dee, Subgroover, and Grammynominated Stonebridge. That fresh sound is what keep the performer a fave both internationally and locally (she has performed twice professionally in Greater Fort Lauderdale and the Gayborhood over the past eighteen months, including at this summer’s Stonewall Summer Pride). lthough one of the summer’s most anticipated album releases—“Chapter V” by Trey Songz—doesn’t hit stores until next Tuesday (Aug. 21), an online leak last month gave us an auditory glimpse at two of the tracks, “Dive In,” and “Simply Amazing.” We like what we hear. “Dive In” is a sexy love ballad that has Songz utilizing swimming metaphors to paint a picture of his skills de l’amour. “Girl, I’m about to dive in/Baby girl hold your breath,” he sings. “We about to get so wet/Put me to the test when I dive (splash).” “Simply Amazing” is a charged pop ballad in praise of his special love: “See I’m a man that don’t believe in much/But I’ll be damned if I don’t believe in us.” We believe him.

singer ountry Travis Randy was arrested on Aug. 7, after being found “drunk and naked” near the site of a single-car crash. Travis, 53, who has sold more than 20 million albums, was charged with driving while intoxicated and retaliation—a charge related to his alleged threats against Texas state troopers (it also carries a prison penalty of 10 years, if convicted). Police found Travis— who has 16 Number one hits on the Billboard Country charts—after they responded to two 911 calls, one from a convenience store clerk complaining that a naked man had tried to buy cigarettes. Travis reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer, and threatened to “shoot and kill the officers working the case.” He was released the next morning, after posting $21,500 bail (having left the jail without any shoes). Travis— who is in the midst of a nasty divorce—was also arrested in February, after being found drunk outside a Sanger, Texas church. Ol’ Randy: Diggin’ Up Bones.

ussia’s Deputy Prime Minister says that Madonna is a moralizing “slut.” Dmitry Rogizin called out the diva after she spoke in support of jailed feminist punk band Pussy Riot, during her concert in Moscow on Aug. 7. (Madonna wrote “Pussy Riot” on her back, and performed “Like a Virgin” wearing a balaclava [ski mask] during the show.) “With age, every former ‘--’ tries to lecture everyone on morality,” Rogozin tweeted—using the first letter of the Russian word for whore or slut. “Especially during overseas tours,” he added.

Pussy Riot’s three musicians—Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich—were charged with “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred,” after performing a “punk prayer” in a Moscow cathedral, that was directed as Russia’s autocratic president, Vladimir Putin. They each face a three-year prison sentence. A verdict is expected Aug. 17.

Isn’t That Why It’s Called “Acting?”

D

reamy star Matt Bomer is getting heat (but not the good kind) from another Hollywood name, who says the “Magic Mike” and “White Collar” actor is too gay to star in the much-anticipated movie adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey.” On Aug. 8, novelist (“Less Than Zero”) and screenwriter (“American Psycho”) Bret Easton Ellis (who confirmed last week that he is out of consideration for writing the film’s screenplay) called the idea of casting the openly-gay Bomer as “Shades” lead character Christian Grey “absolutely ludicrous.” Tweeted Ellis: “Okay I’ll say it. Matt Bomer isn’t right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay,” adding that “Fifty Shades of Grey demands an actor that is genuinely into women. Get it?!?” Although Ellis insisted that he has no beef with Bomer’s sexual identity, he objected that the 34-year-old actor “comes off totally gay in White Collar.” Bomer came “out” subtly in February, when he acknowledged his partner during an awards ceremony. This summer, he told E! Online, “I never really endeavored to hide anything.” As for Ellis, he’s played “cute” with his own sexuality for years, telling an interviewer in 2002, “I definitely don’t identify as gay, so I can’t commit an answer.” Uhhuh. Say—isn’t “Bret” a girl’s name?

Guy Dining By RICHARD DAVID CHAMBERLAIN

T

here was always something so relaxing about SeaWatch on the Ocean, a local favorite since 1974. The nautical ambiance of heavy dock rope, ship lanterns, 12-spoke wheels, and dusty ancient maps and books competing for wall space was a home-away-from-home for many Floridians, who found the restaurant’s fresh seafood as comforting as its sagging red banquettes. All that changed about a year ago, when the popular place closed its doors for months, as its owners remodeled the eatery in what was its first update in its 38-year history. The menu received a full fluffand-fold as well, with the resulting transformation as sophisticated as it is complete. The restaurant sits on the sand some 50 yards from the Atlantic, and on nights of the Full Moon, the joint is packed to capacity to celebrate the lunar experience, as it creeps over the horizon and showcases the jubilant crowd. (The next full moon party is August 30th.) During those parties, there’s an outdoor barbecue and DJ Alex spinning in the booth. While SeaWatch has a multipage menu featuring some top-notch house specialties—Bouillabaisse, a rich soup of lobster, shrimp, scallops, calamari, white fish, mussels, clams, and saffron-chicken broth, with a hint of Pernod ($29.00); a Seafood Paella, heavy with king crab, chicken, shrimp, spicy chorizo, clams, salmon, and mussels served on a bed of Spanish rice ($28.00); and a slow-roasted 16-ounce Prime Rib with a zesty horseradish sauce and flavorful au jus, plus a side of Yorkshire pudding ($32.00)—it’s the lunch specials that have lately kept us smiling. In an off-season promotion running daily between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., SeaWatch offers Sail the $7 Seas, a host of $7 lunch items, including some extremely good paninis. The

grilled and pressed sandwiches range in choice from Salmon BLT with smack-your-lips applewood bacon on multi-grain bread to a Classic Corned Beef Reuben, with sauerkraut, swiss cheese on delicious sliced caraway seed loaf. All the paninis are served with a dill pickle wedge and a bag of Miss Vickie’s Simply Sea Salt Potato Chips. Not in the mood for a Panini? Try Maria’s Tortilla Salad, sliced lean sirloin steak mixed with iceberg lettuce, tortilla chips, beans, chopped tomatoes, and cheddar cheese with a creamy Italian dressing—Maria’s special contribution. Also priced at $7: An amazingly flavored Shrimp Penne Pasta, with grilled pancetta, sundried tomato and arugula. SeaWatch also has a very nice grilled Cheeseburger and Fries with caramelized onions, sliced pickles, tomato and a secret sauce, or a forgetthe-calories Grilled Hot Dog with catsup, mustard and sweet relish. That one comes with fries as well, and plenty of them. For dinner, the vast daily menu is available from 6 p.m. until closing. For those special few who want to see the place as the moon comes up, try Dinner at Dusk from 5-6 p.m. For $20.95, select your choice of 1¼ pound Broiled Lobster, Blackened Mahi Mahi, Roasted Half Chicken, Slow-Roasted Prime Rib, or the Broiled Combination Platter that features shrimp, scallops, and mahi mahi in a garlic, herb and butter sauce that’s a two-napkin taste treat. Be sure to say hi to Mary at the upstairs bar, Jeannette at the door, and Beth, who manages the joint as if it’s her own nightly party. And, as always, tell them Guy Magazine sent you.

Adam & Ease By ADAM STRONG

Host a fabulous

Summer Clambake C lambake—in addition to being a 1967 Elvis Presley film about a beach party in South Florida (although the B-roll footage clearly depicts southern California)—is a traditional and fun way to prepare seafood, especially mussels, steamers (soft-shell clams), quahogs (hard clams—go ahead, make your joke), crabs, and lobsters. The seafood is usually enjoyed with delicious side dishes, including sausages, potatoes, carrots, and yummy corn on the cob—but save room for dessert! The ideal clambake—naturally—should take place at the beach, but check local regulations regarding cooking on public sands (on Fort Lauderdale Beach, there are areas reserved for cookouts and the outdoor fun that goes handin-hand with a clambake). If the beach isn’t your scene, you can create a memorable mood and a killer menu using your own steam (so to speak), cooking in the kitchen or on the grill, and transforming a backyard or other outside spot into a mollusk marvel.

BEACH BLANKET? BINGO!

S

ome of the same setting ideas we discussed last week (August 8, 2012, “The Perfect Alfresco Dinner Party”) can be used to jazz up your clambake environment. Set the tables with red and white checkered tablecloths and napkins. Whether you’re going to the actual beach or not, bring large picnicstyle blankets to evoke that beach setting, and have a place to sit. Bring a little bit of the shore to your table, by decorating with items that “say surf,” like scattering seashells on the table, draping fishing nets (filled with plastic starfish, crabs, and fish) around the setting, and hanging hemp ropes on the backs of

chairs. Place vases filled with white daisies or tall, ornamental grasses on the table and around it. Other cool beach gear like crab traps and fishing tackle add to the ambience. Our August 1, 2012 piece (“BRING THE SURF TO YOUR TURF: Great Beach-Inspired Decorating Ideas”) has a ton of other suggestions for decorating with a beach theme. Another nice touch is to set a beach pail and shovel at each place setting, as both a party favor and decoration. Fill each pail with oyster crackers, Old Bay Seasoning, a lobster claw cracker, and a pick. Lastly, you can bring the sounds of the surf home by using an ocean soundtrack.

SURF’S UP!

T

raditional clambakes begin by gathering seaweed, which is an important part of the food prep. The seaweed has to be kept fresh, so you’ll need a large container that’s big enough to hold both the seaweed and a good amount of sea water. You also need several medium-sized round stones (in colonial times, ship’s cannon balls were used); these will be heated in the fire, and used to re-radiate heat during cooking. Because you will need trapped heat and steam to thoroughly cook the food, a canvas tarp or potato sack that is soaked in sea water makes a perfect cover for your “steamer pit.” Traditionally, after the seaweed and stones are collected, a fire pit gets dug. There are some who start the fire inside the pit, and others who line the pit’s edges with flat stones, as support for a metal grill, upon which the stones are placed. If your locality outlaws building fires on the beach, or if you are having your clambake at home, you need a large pot to accommodate the meal. This is called a New England Clam Boil. (NOTE: You really, REALLY want to check local ordinances for regulations concerning outdoor fires. Like that old therapist told Carmela Soprano, “One thing you can never say is that you haven’t been told.”) After the stones are placed in the center of the pit and a wood fire started, you need to heat the stones until they are glowing hot. Your fire should burn out not long after this. The ashes then need to be swept off the stones, and raked between them, to form an insulating “bed.” Place a layer of wet seaweed that’s been soaked in seawater over the stones, followed by a layer of steamers, quahogs, mussels, and lobsters.

In addition to the seafood, the side dishes are placed in layers that usually include corn on the cob, carrots, potatoes, onions, and Portuguese linguiça sausages. Alternate layers of seaweed and food, and then top off the entire mound with canvas that’s drenched in sea water (to seal in the heat, and keep the canvas from getting burned). You can also soak the canvass in beer, but this will be more for taste than for inebriating effect, so save the suds for your mug). What you’ll need: (Ingredients on next page)

Continued from Page 40

• 3 to 4 pounds of round clams (mussels, steamers, quahogs, etc.) • 6 to 10 large baking potatoes • 6 medium onions, peeled • 6 to 10 ears of corn (husk left on, but silk removed) • 12 live lobsters • 12 lemons cut into wedges • Lots of melted butter • Enough seaweed or rock weed for the fire pit • Cheesecloth • Wire baskets are also helpful to hold everything together, but not necessary • Canvass or tarpaulin Wrap individual servings of the ingredients (clams, potatoes, etc.) in cheesecloth. Tie the corners together, and place in wire baskets (if you are using them). Once the rocks are hot, rake the coals off the fire, and cover the rocks with seaweed. Place the cheesecloth wraps on the seaweed, and layer until filled. Cover with canvass or tarp. Cook for approximately 2 hours. Serve with melted butter, salt and pepper, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.

FOR A CHARCOAL GRILL

R

educe the amount of seaweed: You only need a small amount soaking in seawater. Wrap the food in cheesecloth as above, add seaweed, and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil. (It’s important to have something to provide moisture. If you don’t have seaweed, add ¼ cup of water to the food packages, but make sure they are completely sealed. If there isn’t enough moisture, the food won’t cook properly.) Place on a hot grill, and shut the lid. Cook for one hour, and then eat.

AM I MISSING ANYTHING?

S

erve cold beverages: Lemonade, iced tea, cold beer and of course, lots of water. Fresh-baked cornbread is a natural complement to the theme, slices of watermelon are delicious and refreshing, and apple pie is the perfect way to top off (so to speak) your perfect clambake. Cowabunga, baby!

Guy Travel

When

Gay Travel Is Not

Safe Travel

I

t sounded so exciting. A three-day weekend in Acapulco, Mexico, to enjoy the high cliff divers from the top of La Quebrada, with dinner at the El Mirador Hotel (Plazoleta La Quebrada 74, 52 744 483 1155). It was Eduardo’s idea, a friend who flies his own Cessna Citation, and before you can say Ay dios mio, we were checking into the Acapulco, Mexico Fairmont Acapulco Princess (Costera de Las Palmas, 01 744 469 1000), a spectacular hotel that once was home to Howard Hughes. That’s when we heard the first news alert about a decapitation in the neighborhood. And then a second decapitation. We don’t know about you, but to us such turn of events tends to cast a pall over after-dinner-drink-small-talk. On closer examination, it seems these were two of 1,029 murders that took place last year in the Paradise of the Americas. Apparently, a lot has changed since Elizabeth Taylor had her third of eight marriages there, and Edgar Valdez became known as the drug lord La Barbie. Acapulco has become the fourth most dangerous city in the world to visit, with 127.92 murders for every 100,000 inhabitants. On February 8, the State Department placed Mexico on its list of countries too dangerous or unstable to encourage Americans to visit. That places Mexico in the same category as Afghanistan, Iran, and Syria. We have a few more warnings of our own to add to the list, while the State Department plays catchup. We can’t really recommend going to Belem, Brazil, once on our “favorites list,” since it sits at the

44

|

entrance to the Amazon River and is home to the architecturally-significant Belem Cathedral. Last year, there were 1,639 murders in Belem, mainly over the rights to log in the Amazon, where mostly illegal deforestation is occurring at a rate of 10,000 square miles a year. There are also no warning flags cautioning travel to Caracas, Venezuela. While we can’t recommend it right now—there were Market in Belem, Brazil 3,164 murders there—at one time, Caracas’ Paseo de los Proceres was one of our favorite gardens to stroll (and cruise!). Although its lovely lawns, flowers and sculpture are still in place and as magnificent as ever, armed robbery is rampant, as are attacks on gays and lesbians, who in Venezuela are still subject to extreme discrimination. Oh well. Nice house; no furniture. Should you be thinking about taking a trip to Honduras, think again. Though it is home to the Bay Islands (with the second largest coral reef in the world), as well as the Mayan ruins at Copán and the sprawling Lancetilla Botanical Gardens in Tela, Honduras also is extremely anti-gay, with homosexual and transgender murders a frequent occurrence. In 2009, Honduras’ bestknown LGBT leader, 27-year-old Walter Trochez, was assassinated by state security forces after he launched a protest against the murders of gays. In 2011, there were 1,123 murders in Hondoras’ central district. Most of these were never solved, and the killers remain free. While we’re talking Honduras, try to imagine life in San Pedro Sula. The second largest city in the country, home to thriving coffee, banana, tobacco, beet and sugar cane plantations, it also holds the title of Murder Capital of the World. Lovely but deadly, like so much of the world seems to be these days. Robert Elias Deaton is a world-traveling epicure who enjoys the finer things in life.

PICTURE THIS: FOAP Helps You Sell Your iPhone Photos

T

here is an ongoing tension in my household concerning my bf Proculus’ habit of snapping pictures (of me) with his iPhone, often at moments of immense inopportunity (for me). This wouldn’t be so bad if there was some financial end in this (for me: Daddy’s image is copyrighted, thank you), and now, thanks to Foap, there is. Foap’s stock image service acts as a sort of aggregator for selling images (think of it as a consignment store for your homegrown photos). The process is fairly simple: You take an image (like the one that Procky took of me last weekend, stuck in a tree with a clan of banana spiders), and send it through the app to Foap. The service offers your image for $10, and splits the take with you 50/50 via PayPal if it sells. Images with effects or filters (like those taken with Instagram, another Procky fave) aren’t eligible for submission (although a gander at Foap.com shows examples, so roll the dice and takes your chances, I guess). The service says that approval takes around 24 hours, but a friend of mine waited two days, so times may be approximate. Something of which budding shutter-bugs should be aware is that once you send an image to Foap, you are giving up your rights to the pic. That means that your cute shots from Friday night’s Pig Dance could end up in a montage for Oversexed Granddaddies Gone Manic, but who wants to live “safe?” SHOOT THIS: Free for iPhone.

Busuu: Gaming Your Language Lessons

A

couple of weeks back, I talked about the Babbel language-learning app, which benefits from its organized simplicity, and exercises that help you retain what you’ve learned. For some app users, simplicity isn’t a selling point, and for them, there’s Busuu. This app utilizes a similar style for teaching words and phrases as Babbel, made more “memorable” through use of images and recordings of native speakers. The developer has also added game elements, such as “busuu-berries,” which are awarded for successfully completing an exercise.

Busuu is interactive, posting writing exercises that you submit to other users, commenting on, correcting, and helping them improve in their own efforts. They can also comment on yours, offering help and suggestions for your own learning efforts. (“They like me—they, they really like me!”) SAY WHAT? FREE for iPhone and Android.

WICKR: Homeland Security Encryption Comes to Your iPhone

T

he Internet is forever. Your private conversations don’t need to be. Today, companies have no legal responsibility to secure their users’ personal data, either from their supporting advertisers or by utilizing hackerproof encryption. That responsibility is very much on the shoulders of We The Users, especially when it comes to opting out of services and understanding obscure privacy policies that regulate how personal info is secured, used, and sold. Wickr, a mobile app designed with technology previously available only to the military and professional spooks, aims to set a new standard for personal data dissemination. The market for this app is huge: Everyone from CEOs to black helicopter-watchers, hackers and hard-hat workers is paranoid to one degree or another about data storage and theft, and about communicating securely and anonymously. With Wickr, texts, images, and videos are secured with military-grade encryption, and never stored. User names and other identifiable information are camouflaged using a mathematical algorithm (what security experts call “salting” and “hashing”), with only the encoded result getting stored.

48

|

guy magazine

The secret agent elements get even cooler, since the app lets you enable a self-destruct timer for messages or data you send, which gives you control of how long a recipient can views an image, video, or texts before it completely vanishes. Still not impressed? In most cases, information that is deleted from a device remains in the form of metadata on the hard drive—something that hackers, forensics specialists, and police can piece back together. Wickr’s anti-forensics feature erases deleted files permanently, by overwriting the metadata with gibberish text. Eat that, KGB agents (and datastealing losers). TRY AND HACK THIS: The app eschews advertising, in favor of a “Freemium” approach. Core services for the app are FREE, but there’s a fee for premium services, like sending large files, or sending files to large groups. For iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Guy Fitness

By TOM BONANTI

ETIQUETTE It’s Not Just For High Tea and Garden Parties!

I

am very lucky to have my own gym, a great private facility where I do one-on-one fitness training with some of the finest guys and ladies in Fort Lauderdale. Yet when I exercise myself, I often like to go to one of the popular commercial gyms in my area just to take a break from my workplace ambience. I usually enjoy my time at these gyms, but at least twice a week I witness things that really tick me off. Before anyone tells me to go back to my own gym and STFU, allow me get up on my soapbox and vent a spell about the need for gym etiquette. A gym is not just a place where YOU go to work out. The gym is a great social outlet for people of all ages and backgrounds to go to exercise and relieve stress. As such, there are some basic and oh-so-essential rules of gym etiquette that I feel I must review. First, remember that you are not the only one in the gym. If you have to carry around your cell phone, put it on vibrate and when you get a call, take it outside or somewhere where you don’t have to share your call with the rest of us! Speaking of not sharing, keep a towel with you to wipe down equipment after using it. No one wants to workout in a puddle of your bodily fluids. Second, the gym is not your private space. This means that you should not push in front of others to get to equipment. Rack free weights once you have finished your sets. Don’t linger at stations while you talk on the phone or waste time. Others are waiting patiently. I was once in a gym where a famous visiting porn star was working out. His ego was bigger than his calf implants! This behemoth pushed and shoved in front of others to hog the weights, and monopolized two and three pieces of equipment at a time. What a gross turn-off for his multitude of fans. A simple “Excuse me,” or “Pardon me, are you using those weights?” is so much nicer

Wipe down equipment after using it. No one wants to workout in a puddle of your bodily fluids.

than a primal grunt, a surly sneer, and a shove from behind. Don’t forget basic kindness and manners. You expect them from others, why not let others learn from your good example? Another basic rule of gym etiquette has to do with personal hygiene. Primal man-scent may flip your switch at Ramrod, but three-day body odor is not acceptable anywhere. Showers can be used both before and after a workout. If your jock can stand up on its own in your locker, then it’s time to do laundry. Yes, real men bathe, wear a touch of deodorant, and wash the gym clothes. While I’m on this tirade of discussing personal hygiene, let me say a word to those phantoms of the locker room who refuse to flush their mess or wipe off a toilet seat, and those who spit, hock, and dispose of their gum in the drinking fountains. Get with the human race. Learn to flush the toilet! Stop using the drinking fountain as your personal waste receptacle! And while we’re at it, the locker room is no place to trim your toe-nails, shave your head, or iron your clothes. These are tasks to do in the privacy of your own salle de bain, as they say in France. Finally, let me say a word or two about something that really irks me. The locker room and showers are not your private areas to carry on sexually, with yourself or with others. Your sexcapades are not as hot as you imagine them to be. It is illegal, and furthermore, you are putting your club and others in jeopardy for all kinds of trouble. Stop it now! Well, I’ve gotten some things off my chest. For me, and many others, the gym is a way of life. With a few basic rules of etiquette, a little consideration and some politeness, the gym can be a great place for all of us to workout, unwind, and socialize. Love Jones

By JUSTIN JONES

B

ottoming is a lot of work. Being a promiscuous bottom is a WHOLE lot of work (I know this from past experience). Attention to anal hygiene is time well spent, of course—no one wants an accident—but still, it gnaws away at time one might spend doing something more pleasurable, namely: Partying, cuddling, eating, sleeping, cleaning the fridge, walking on hot coals—or doing just about absolutely anything else. For me, the task ranks with folding laundry for the superlative “Most Burdensome.” I suppose most of us have our own style when it comes to this necessity. For me—to be sure extra-spotless—30 minutes to an hour is required lead-time. This carries over from my days as a slut, when the task had greater frequency (and required more detail), and thus took up even more time. I’ve calculated how much time I’ve spent doing this over the years, and it’s comparable to the total time I’ve spent at traffic lights, or walking to classes (from elementary school all the way through college). I’m not obsessive about this, mind you, although my attention to the details of the subject has cost me considerable hours of foreplay, and the price I’ve paid in spontaneous romance has been dear. Still, I derive no pleasure in the preparation (as a chef might, say, basting his turkey—although I am a stickler for cleanliness in the kitchen). When I was with my ex several years ago, I made

sure to anticipate the need. I’d wake up before him to perform maintenance (he enjoyed morning bouts), and I’d prep myself before he returned home from work. The system—his libido was so predictable—allowed me to successfully navigate almost never having to excuse myself, Pre-Main Event. Of course, this wasn’t always the case: In a few instances, he surprised me, and—having tempered his lust, so I could get ready for him— we would engage (although the loss of spontaneity made the engagements less passionate). I bring this up because I met someone recently, an obvious and self-admittedly promiscuous bottom about my age, who said he’d never cleaned himself there. (I can’t recall how the conversation turned in this direction, but he was interested to know more.) How do you do it? He asked me, his eyes wide with wonder. It occurred to me then that he wasn’t alone—that many young men pursue their bottom-ness without knowledge of a staple of the Gay Collective Consciousness: Douching. In a way, I envied him. What an effort it takes to go through so much trouble (time and time again) for so much pleasure. (The agony and ecstasy—the agony and ecstasy.) I walked him through the process: Every time-consuming, graphic detail, just as had been taught to me (albeit at a much younger age), and he took notes on his iPhone, on both the process and name brands. Cute, I thought, now I’ve made Colt more money. So, yeah, it’s a burden. But so is folding laundry. And I’m still waiting for someone to teach me how to do that. Regardless, my closet’s still clean.
