MAY 19, 2016 BARBRA IS BACK Don’t call it a comeback. It was announced that Barbra Streisand’s latest North American tour would begin on August 2 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and continue through August 23 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The tour will come to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the 74-year-old singer was one of the arena’s opening attractions in October 2012. She will also release a new album, “Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway,” pairing Streisand with film actors and singers, scheduled for release before the end of the year. BROKEN HEARTED Who would ever break up with Nick Jonas? The 24-year-old heartthrob has just released the video for one of his most personal tracks yet--"Chainsaw." BARES HIS BUNS Going back on his promise to no longer share nudie pics on his social media, Gus Kenworthy showed off his bare buns on his Instagram last week. While on the Gold Coast of Australia, he captioned the snap, ”I know I said no more kangaroo pictures butt I changed my mind.” And we do not mind. BYE BYE NASHVILLE Nashville is no longer. “You know, I was not necessarily surprised," said Connie Britton who played Rayna James on the once popular ABC hour long drama. "And, so, I try to really put a silver lining on it and just say, 'Hey, we got four years out of it and I really, really value the experience,'” she told Entertainment Tonight at the GLAAD Media Awards. ABC announced that the drama would be dropped from its lineup of programming after its fourth season finale, which airs on Wednesday, May 25. Nashville featured Chris Carmack as gay country star Will Lexington who struggled with his sexuality throughout the series.

Boystown. 12
The soap opera book is a captivating drama set in the gay heart of Chicago, Boystown. Everywhere depicted in the book are real life places and landmarks you would witness in the Chicago gayborhood. Even the situations, although embellished, are realistic occurrences that any given reader could relate to - - or at the least be glued to. Biondi, a native Chicagoan who grew up in a suburban town right outside of the city, first dreamed up the book idea from his love
WHAT’S turns of main characters from the age of 19 to 45 encountering each other in peculiar and life-changing ways. Not to mention, the sensual and vivid sex scenes that line the pages of the book. Whether it’s a hot gay guy being nefarious, a straight couple thrown into the mix, a lesbian fighting for equality or a dreamy Asian appearing on the page, Biondi makes sure the characters are diverse in orientation and ethnicities - - practically every way possible.
for television dramas. He just could never get enough of them. They always seem to provide him with the anticipation and excitement he graved. But there was just one thing lacking and he had the desire to add his take to it. “I’ve always been a fan of TV dramas,” Biondi explained. “And I’ve always wanted to create one with all that excitement but with a gay focus.” And that is just what the English major did in his first Boystown Book in 2013. As a lifelong proud Chicagoan and gay man, Biondi relocated to the enticing Chicago gayborhood over 20 years ago. So when it came time for him to fulfill his desire his surroundings made for the perfect setting. At first, Biondi wrote the book for himself. But it quickly gained in popularity and before the bewildered writer knew it, fans were asking for more. In the past three years Biondi, who describes the book as a cross between Queer as Folk and Revenge, has written five books in the series with the fifth book set to be released June 1. “It’s exciting that they keep asking for more,” the enthusiastic author commented. “It’s a very good type of stress.” Boystown is Biondi’s only published book. However, the sensational series does keep the writer busy with juicey plot twist and
The conscious writer has been known to incorporate current issues and situations going so far as to do his due diligence and investigate situations so his written accounts are realistic, accurate and respectful. He is currently working to add some mentions of the current trans issues in his future books. He also likes to include real characters in his book when appropriate -- cameos made by approved artist, celebrities and public figures. It’s all just a dramatized version of real life. “I feel like there are bits and pieces of myself and my friends in some of the characters,” offered up Biondi. “I think that is true of any author, but there is no one-to-one correlation of a real person to any character.” Biondi encourages his readers to reach out to him with their commits and suggestions. He actually made a promise to himself to answer every reader who has reached out to him. Currently, he is working with Hollywood producers to bring the book series to life on the television screen. BOB THE DRAG QUEEN: ON TOP, NO MATTER WHAT
With the finish line in sight, we quickly catch up with the people's queen. BY ALEXANDER KACALA
L
ast spring, I was sitting outside with some friends enjoying a happy hour seltzer on the corner of Locust and 12th Streets in Philadelphia. I saw my good friend Matt Beierschmitt down the street, so I waved. He had wanted me to DJ a drag show at the gay sports bar Tabu later that evening, so I wanted to find out the details. As I waved, a tall, bald headed, gay, black man with a septum piercing thought I was waving to him. I awkwardly corrected the mistake, and he continued to shake off the blunder with a hilarious facial expression I probably won’t ever forget. When I went upstairs to meet the cast of the show later that night, that same person was busy finishing his nails at the vanity. He was quiet, unassuming and soft spoken. I recently realized who he was; Bob The Drag Queen. I already sort of became a fan from afar, seeing posts about the comedy queen on social media and hearing only great things about the performer. I fanned girl out, and instantly realized my dumb ass gaff earlier that day, recognizing I was in the presence of a true gay great.

Who was mild mannered and unassuming in the dressing room became larger than life on stage. Her performances only superseded my high expectations. With about 15 people in the audience, a lower turn out than usual, she performed an incredible show that you would think was being delivered to a sold out house at Carnegie Hall. Now, more than a year later, Bob The Drag Queen is on top. She seemingly, swiftly sashayed through the competition on RuPaul's Drag Race with ease and finesse similar to Bianca Del Rio two seasons ago. Whether or not she claims the title this season is yet to be determined, as we go to print the day of the finale’s airing. But regardless, Bob has established herself as the best – something the New York community already knew before the airing of the season’s premiere. We had the opportunity to ask Bob a few questions and find out what she learned this season on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
WHAT’S Your favorite memory from this season? My favorite memory this season was during the episode of “Untucked” when Chi Chi finds out Derrick Barry has two boyfriends. She was just like, “Oh that’s amazing, that really is.” Ha! I say that all the time now, “Oh that’s amazing, that really is.” Looking back, do you regret anything you said on camera? No no no, I think I hold myself to a great level of integrity. I may have spoken incorrectly when I said, “I hate Lorde.” That wasn’t true. I do not hate Lorde (the singer). Tell our readers about your new single "Purse First." My single is available on iTunes now! “Purse First” is inspired by Purse First – she was born on the first episode of Drag Race (season 8). And she stars in nearly every episode. Why do you think NY queens do so well in the competition? What's the competitive edge? Most of us were performers before we did drag, and we were already performing when we discovered drag. So we already had a leg up. We already knew how to be a performer, you know? My favorite quote of yours all season was, "Everything works out in the end. If it's not working out, it's not the end." Who inspired that and looking back, what does that mean to you now that you are here at the end? It’s something I read back when I was in high school, I think I first read it on a magnet. I just immediately thought the meaning is so important. It’s so important to remember that your life will always work out in the end, and that’s still how I feel now. Everything will work out in the end. What do you want your fans to know if you lose? If I lose, it’s not going to change my trajectory or my path. It will only change how I am introduced when I go on stage. What do you want your fans to know if you win? The win is not for me, it’s for the people.

arran Mazaika isn’t just Mr. Ramrod 2015. He is our next International Mr. Leather 2016 (IML) regardless if he wins this Memorial Day Weekend. You’ll understand why once you read his Q&A. Mazaika authentic personality is genuine and caring, which makes it pretty plan to see why the former police officer deserves the title. His time as Mr. Ramrod 2015 also helps to build his case for the potential win. Since Mazaika's win as Mr. Ramrod 2015, the go-getter has proven to be, probably, the most innovative and inclusive Mr. Ramrod yet. He hasn’t just taken the sash and used it as a glorified symbol of his victory. He uses the title to spread a message of courage, strength and love. And he doesn’t just limit that message to the leather community. He shares that message with our whole community as he goes above and beyond his Mr. Ramrod duties by intermingle with othersgroups outside of the leather crowd. He plans to take that message all the way to Chicago for IML. Mazaika doesn’t see his journey up north as a competition against 60 contestants but rather a shared experience with his fellow leather brothers. That’s not to say that he doesn’t want to take home the title. But it’s not necessarily for the bragging rights; it’s more so he can further capture people with his platform of domestic violence in our community - - a real life issue he deeply cares about. What encourage you to enter the Mr. Ramrod competition? I decided to compete for Mr. Ramrod, when I learned Mr. Ramrod 2014 resigned and didn’t complete his title year. Since living in South Florida, I have realized that our community has probably the largest leather community in the country and it needs to be represented. I wanted to create a bridge between the leather and non-leather community and also bring awareness to issues in our community that need to be discussed. I also wanted to make sure Mr. Ramrod was represented at IML this year. What are your duties as Mr. Ramrod? My only duty was to represent Ramrod at their events. I decided that I wanted to bring exposure to Mr. Ramrod by going to various non-leather events and community events. It takes some level of confidence to compete. Have you always been a confidant guy? I haven’t always had self-confidence. Going through the police academy and being a police officer taught me that I needed to have self-confidence in order to survive on the streets. I would flip on a switch within me every time I put on my uniform, badge, and gun to patrol the streets. I use that same method today whenever I have to do something. What are your strong suits? I’m determined when I set a goal, detail orientated and compassionate. What does it mean to you that you will be competing for International Mr. Leather? Competing at International Mister Leather is a huge honor because I will be representing Ramrod, the South Florida leather community and bringing awareness of LGBT Domestic Violence to a national platform. What do you plan on bringing to the table for the International Mr. Leather competition? I am just going to be me and show that I’m not afraid to talk about issues that are controversial or taboo. I have always strived to serve and protect. On a scale from 1-10, how nervous are you? As of right now, my nerves are at about a 4, but come IML, my nerves will probably jump.

What is the first thing you plan to do after you have settled in Chicago? Lay on my bed in disbelief that I will be one of only 60 contestants in the world competing for the title of International Mister Leather. What is your ritual for winning? I really don’t have any answer other than I repeat “I can do this” over and over again in my head. The more I tell myself that I can do it, the more confidence I get. Are you going to manscape for the competition or the hairier the better? Hairier the better and that saves me a lot of time because I am super hairy. What are the three must-have items you need to bring with you to Chicago? Leather formals, white jockstrap but, most of all, an outgoing personality. What is the one item you have to have for the competition? Guts – It takes some guts to stand in front of thousands of people in only a jockstrap.
What will be your sexiest article of clothing that you bring along with you? My red and black jockstrap. What is your IML platform? I am going to continue my work of bringing domestic violence awareness to the LGBT community, so the topic is no longer taboo and survivors aren’t afraid, shamed, or stigmatized to talk about it or report it. I will continue my LGBT Domestic Violence Awareness to a national/ international level if I win International Mister Leather. Even if I don’t win, I will continue with my LGBT Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign. What is your advice for others who are trying to find their inner confidence? I say a person needs to find their inner strength by becoming someone else if they have to. It’s just like an athlete when they go on the field or a musician when they go on stage. Also, the more you tell yourself that you can do it, the more confidence you’ll get.

A Caribbean Fest For Us Y
ou think with every single type of party our community has that we would have at least one get together that celebrates the Caribbean heritage, right? Well, that “at least one� has finally been conceived by our local social services agency, Sunserve.

FEATURE The nonprofit organization will be hosting their second annual Caribbean LGBT Pride Festival on Saturday, May 28. It all started with a phone call from a Jamaican lady who experienced discrimination with her girlfriend and gay male friend when they went to celebrate their heritage at a Caribbean festival.

Belly dancers, silt walkers, circus ring lyra air suspension, cover bands, a bone breaker and a fire breather are all on deck. Everyone is going to want to join in on the Bonzabai – a parade march that resembles the conga line.
From that one call, Sunserve jumped into action to provide our community a safe haven to celebrate the Caribbean culture. Their first Caribbean LGBT Pride Festival in 2015 was filled with culture and fun. The theme was authentic with tradition carnival dancers and garments. And the music really represented the spirit of the carnival culture.
The free event is guaranteed to give you a culture experience like none other found in our community. In true Sunserve fashion, the event will also feature social services to our community like a HIV testing van provided by AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The celebration gives Sunserve an opportunity to reach out to a segment of our community that usually faces rejection and heighten scrutiny from their cultural peers and family.
"This year, it's going to even be a bit more diverse,” shared Sunserve’s Youth Services Manager Richard Forbes. “It's going to be bigger and better." Sunserve’s Caribbean Fest in 2015 saw about 150 celebrators. This year’s event is expected to draw double that amount. To welcome in the crowd, the Sunserve team has brought the festivities to the Drive at the brand spanking new addition to Richardson Park, the Carriage House. It’s going to be a coronation -- the facility is said to never have been used before. "The Caribbean culture is frequently under looked and supported in our community so it’s great that we can have it on Wilton Drive,” an excited Bryan Wilson, Director of Community Relations, said. “It shows our organization’s dedication to the festival.” The location isn’t the only new bigger and better addition; the festival’s vendors and entertainment will also have a bigger presence. In the mist of a full functional bar and spacious outdoor dance floor will be a slew of vendors ranging from expressive jewelry to ethnic cuisine. Get ready for the delicious jerk and curry explosion on your palate. The event is also family-friendly with a kids' corner. First year's emcee Kitty Sharrod will be back to party with the crowd and Superior Sounds is going to ignite the dance floor
"For me personally, I love the fact that Sunserve is putting on this event because I’m Caribbean myself and I can't hold my girlfriend’s hand at our gatherings,” shared Sunserve Youth Outreach Educator Sobourney Barnes. “Now, I can celebrate openly at a Caribbean event." Party it up carnival style from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Saturday, May 28 at Sunserve’s free Caribbean LGBT Pride Festival. ust when you thought Dancing with the South Florida Stars would be the last time you’ve
seen winner Kaio Nigro, he graces our magazine yet again. This time the titleholder comes to us as the iron-hot sex symbol of Rumors Bar and Grill. With his adorable smile and killer arms, you can see why we brought the Brazilian native back for another peek into his life. Just shy of two years in the states and Nigro is making a name for himself with a lot to celebrate. First his newfound job, then his marriage and now a trophy win. He might be a shy hunk, but he still has the magic touch - must be his Brazilian roots. Whatever it is, he’s happy and humble. And ready to serve you up a great drink while listening to all you have to say.
Describe your personality? I'm a quiet observer guy. I usually listen a lot more than I talk, very easy going and it takes a lot to upset me. I can be very funny, sometimes; at least that's what my husband says. Who has nicer people, Brazil or Florida? That's a trick question because both have nice and not-so-nice people; but overall I would say Florida. Who has better parties, Brazil or Florida? Definitely Florida. What's the naughtiest thing you ever done? Can I make a list? Just kidding. A few things come to mind but I would rather keep them a secret.
Which tattoo on your body is your favorite? My chest one because I did it for my mom to show her how grateful I am for everything she did for me and my siblings. Where will you put your next tattoo? A sleeve on my right arm--I just haven't decided what yet. What’s your ideal patron like? A nice and polite one that comes to the bar to have a good time and doesn't mind having to wait a couple of minutes for a drink when things get crazy. When you first look at a patron, what body part do your eyes first focus on? Usually the eyes unless he’s a hot guy, then I'll look at his arms. I have a thing for arms.

ummertime is just around the corner, and you know what that means? Fantastic weather, vacation time, bathing suit season, and a chance to kick back and chill, are all great motivations to pump up the volume on your fitness routine. If you’ve been slacking off these past few months because of work and stress, it’s time you took a little time out for yourself. Getting fit and staying healthy doesn’t have to be complicated or even time consuming. Make it easy and fun by taking a few simple steps on the way to wellness that all healthy people need to follow. GET UP AND GET MOVING. Doctors as well as fitness professionals recommend 20 to 30 minutes of vigorous exercise each day as a great place to start if you want to lower your risk for chronic diseases and keep your mind sharp. Not to worry, you don’t have to live in a gym. Be creative and stay active all day long. Take a brisk walk during your lunch break, or power walk at night after supper. Climbing the stairs at work, gardening on the weekends, taking the dog to the doggie park, are all easy, fun ways to up your activity level as you cross errands off your list. EAT A MORE PROTEIN RICH DIET. The potential benefits of higher protein intake include preserving and building lean muscle tissue, and maintaining a vital, fat burning metabolism. How much protein do you need? Well, it varies upon your age and activity level, but the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. Beef, fish, pork, and chicken (as well as milk, eggs, and cheese) are excellent high quality protein, but so are many plant foods including whole grains, beans and other legumes, nuts and vegetables. Avoid protein sources that are high in saturated fat like processed meats (most lunch meats) and fried foods. LIVE IN THE PRESENT. Be mindful of your blessings and learn
to live in the present. Chronic stress and worry can pose serious threats to your health, including heart disease, weight gain, hormonal imbalances and depression. Stop agonizing over things you can’t change or control. Practice yoga, learn guided meditation. Listen to music, get a massage, take an evening walk along the beach- anything that can help you tame that monster stress. PRACTICE GOOD HEART HEALTH. Arm yourself against the biggest health threats known to men (and women!) by knowing what they are and what you can do about them. Practice good heart health habits (low fat diet, exercise regularly, etc.) and if you have high blood pressure or cholesterol, follow your doctor’s orders and keep it under control. If you smoke, get help and stop now. Also, minimize your exposure to second hand smoke, because it’ll kill you, too. If you feel sad and tired over an extended period of time, want to withdraw from friends and pleasurable activities, you may be suffering from depression. Talk to your doctor about a solution to this chronic problem before depression beats you. KEEP IT SIMPLE. It seems like there is a new health fad every day, but here’s the truth: Keep it simple, keep it fun, and stay consistent. Here’s to a fantastic, fit summer filled with relaxation, adventure and super good health.
