FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS H
ere it is December already and 2018 is just a few weeks away; where has the year gone? Wasn’t it just a month or two ago we just started the season? I’ve had the opportunity to visit several club work weekends and pitch in where I could as it was kind of nice to just go and help without having to worry about all the planning that goes on. All I can say is that these events don’t happen without the dedicated folks that give so much of their time, energy and pride to provide us a place to race. Land is scarce and willing land owners is even more of a challenge to allow such events to take place on their property. At the end of the weekend we all hope and pray that everyone conducted themselves as responsible motorcyclist by leaving the property as you found it and behaving while we are guests on his property. This means from when you come through the gate, it is essential that we keep ourselves in check which includes our pit riding and our pets. Both of these issues can make or break
an opportunity to return and establish a trusting relationship with the land owner. I know some of you are new to FTR and our weekends of camping and competing on new property is a dream come true. Since there are not a lot of opportunities to ride off road in Florida we must all work together to assure that we can return next year and years to come. I would like to wish all of the FTR family a safe and healthy Christmas and New Year. Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

I didn’t change anything before I got an early start at practice. I was comfortable right away aside from the rear end feeling a bit low for my preference. When I was back to the pits the only thing I did was roll to Moto4Play to have the sag set. The EC200 is kick start only but it was extremely easy, with a long kicker and a clutch perch mounted choke lever. I didn’t have to kick the bike in neutral twice all weekend. In gear it was a different story. The clutch was not adjusted perfectly and there was a little drag when starting it in gear. If I would have crashed during the race I would have put it in neutral to restart, instead of wasting energy kicking in gear.
At the start of the race I got a little sideways and ended up behind Kody who got a holeshot on his electric start KTM, and in the first straight Clay walked right by on his YZ450f. This bike’s weakness was wide open throttle in the sand. I struggled quite a bit in the deep sand but I think if the bike were geared down it would have been a better fit. I felt bad abusing West’s clutch trying to keep it on the pipe in the sand so I took it pretty easy. This race had 4 or 5 50+ mph straights each lap. My top speed on the GPS showed 59 mph, and this bike was perfectly stable. I would say it was the most stable race bike I’ve ever had over 50. I finished 2nd in 30+ and 20th overall. Engine 7/10. I don’t see a 200 ever replacing my 250. But I could definitely see it replacing a 125. Brakes 10/10. Suspension 10/10. I set the sag and was done. Perfectly predictable. Here’s my bottom line on the EC200: If you want to race the 200 class, this bike could be a winner. Jacob Gilliam #100 Plus 30

ound 2 of the HS series was at the Hog Waller Mud Bog aboard a 2012 GasGas EC200 loaned to me by West Anderson. Although this bike is older than the 16 Sherco I just raced, it may Jacob Gilliam have less hours. This bike just got its original piston replaced and a new one broken in.

t really sucks to hear that another dirtbike or quad has been stolen...AGAIN! There's got to be something affordable to aid the average person to locate and recover, with the aid of the proper authorities of course, your beloved rides that you have have put your blood, sweat, and tears into...not to mention all of your hard earned money. Well I was reminded of a not so new device that a lot may not know about. It's called the SPOT TRACE tracking device. This tiny unit uses an internal vibration sensor to detect movement and allows you to receive a text message or email any time your protected asset moves. You can also check on the location of your vehicle or follow it using Google Maps on a smartphone or computer. Tracking options can allow you to set a tracking interval from 2 1/2 to 60 minutes. The module is small enough to fit easily in the palm of your hand and weighs just over 3 ounces. It’s robust and can operate in a temperature range between -22 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It should survive in most any outdoor climate. Full disclosure..I have not actually owned or used this device but know some who have and they swear by it. Here are some of the features of the device.
HOW IT WORKS Once activated and powered on, SPOT Trace will acquire its exact coordinates from the GPS network. SPOT Trace sends the GPS location to communication satellites. The satellites relay the message to a ground network, which uses the internet to route the message to your phone or computer. SPOT Trace allows you to monitor your asset and track its movement in near real-time via Google Maps™. Because SPOT Trace uses satellite technology, it can communicate from some of the most remote locations around
the world. Never let your most valuable asset disappear without a trace. You can add direct messaging to multiple email addresses and text message accounts. You can view tracking details and plot track locations on a map online after logging into your account. Additionally, you can share tracking and messaging information online where others can see the location of your Spot Trace. FEATURES TRACKING SPOT Trace's customized tracking features takes your SPOT experience to the next level. SPOT Trace allows you to select 2½, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minute tracking intervals. View your asset's GPS coordinates online in near real-time with Google Maps. MOVEMENT ALERTS Receive text and/or email notifications when your SPOT Trace's vibration sensor detects your asset has new movement. DOCK MODE Configure SPOT Trace to track an asset that is primarily stored on the water. POWER OFF MESSAGE Receive a notification if SPOT Trace is powered off. LOW BATTERY MESSAGE Receive a notification when SPOT Trace's batteries are low. STATUS MESSAGE Receive a daily alert to let you know your asset is secure. The SPOT trace normally runs $99 but at the time of this writing they are offering 50% off. You do have to buy a yearly monitoring plan that starts at $149 or $14.99 per month. It may not be for everybody but this little device can add some needed assistance in returning your property to you before it's destroyed. Learn more at www.findmespot.com .
