ere we are winding down our schedule with only a couple events left to enjoy. I can’t hardly believe the season is almost over as it seems just yesterday we were traveling to the CFTR event. I guess the old saying,Time fly’s when you’re having fun, certainly applies here. Speaking of fun, I recently did some moto practice with some rippa kid on a 125 (he always picks on me) which lasted until he jumped over me. I’m glad he watches out for his Uncle Randy! I figured it was time to come back to the real deal so I headed south to the TCTR event near Indiantown the following weekend. As the stars and stripes machine was rolled out of the trailer, I kind of let time get away from me. I ended up having to step the pace up as I take forever to get dressed; thank goodness that rippa kid wasn’t there to beat on me about being as slow as molasses running up hill in the winter time! As I signed up, I had to make sure all was ready to go as running through tech my ducks had to be in a row as these guys don’t cut me any slack either, in fact nobody cuts me any slack especially on the course. Practice was in order and after running with my buddy Jerry Curtis I felt we had some pretty sweet lines all tucked back and ready. Of course I’m late to the starting line and found a spot beside my buddy Dave Johnson. After a little playing around to knock the jitters off we heard the famous Uncle Bill quote, “10 seconds” and it was on as we all went into the first corner. As it’s been some
time since I lined up with all these Golden Master A riders, I didn’t know what kind of speed I was up against but soon found out that nobody is out for a Sunday ride, in fact it was game on and the pace was full on from the start. I guess it was time to sprint as elbows were up and play time was over. As we are working each other pretty hard on the first lap, I heard a familiar sound coming which I recognized from previous races as I knew it was my buddy Dave. Sure enough, there he was putting a wheel in on me in one corner and in the next straight away a complete bike comes thumping his way next to me. We're both like, it’s on but with a touch of laughter as we both played chess with nerves of steel or maybe stupidity depending who could hold it on longer! It was great to be back mixing it up with these guys but it looks like I got some work to do if I want to get on the box. I will say I had a great time and can’t wait until the next one in two weeks. `I will also say the course was great as it flowed really well and was challenging every mile. This was a true H/S and the TCTR club did an outstanding job designing this course. Awesome job from the club! Hope to see everyone at the next event Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

t is the weekend before the race… You spend all day Saturday cleaning, adjusting and tuning the bike for the next race. You check your gear, helmet, goggles, boots, protectors and gloves to make sure they are clean, adjusted correctly and in full working order. In addition, you start your hydration regimen and continue your physical workout the whole week. On Saturday, you arrive at the gate entrance pumped, jazzed and brimming with confidence. It is time for your race. You’re on the line, adrenaline pumping. As you hear the 30 second warning you’re staring at the bike. A quick thought goes through your mind from the past remembering how you stalled out at the start. You quickly shake it off. This time, you’re ready and fully prepared. 10 seconds and you’re looking at your holder. You hear the horn, break into a sprint, swing your leg over and launch. This time there is no stall. You twist the wick and the Rekluse grabs hold. You fly off the line like you’ve been shot from a cannon. 20 feet, 30 feet, 40 feet and through the double greens, you got the hole shot! You hit the berms on the back and forth like the bike’s on rails. As you approach the woods, you even remember to close one eye (pirate style) and change once you’re in to adjust to the darkness. Through the trees, over the roots the bike is dancing; it is so smooth. As you break out of the trees you’re wide open, the rear wheel is grabbing, and the front lightly hitting the whoops. Now your gaining on the class ahead and you’re thinking they’re going to move me up to A at this rate. As you clear the chicane you’re cutting 28.5’s while all ahead are running 29.0’s. Three laps later, you see the checker. You’re exhausted but the adrenaline is still pumping because you just made podium top tier at the banquet in August!!!! Preparation… it makes all the difference. In Matthew 25, verses 1-13, Jesus told this story, “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to
meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. Message… One day we will all be called to face God. For those who had confessed their sins and accepted Jesus as their savior, it will be a time of celebration as they enter the gates of heaven. Sadly, for those who never accepted Jesus into their lives, they will hear those haunting words, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ Jesus loves you and wants to be your Savior, King, Brother and best friend. He wants to change your life here and hereafter. “The Good Race” joy service is every Saturday night from 7:30 to 7:45 pm at the CMA tent on vendor’s row. We hope to see you there! Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA

ast issue we got a look at the Mobius X8 Knee Brace, a full blown knee brace on the high end of the price scale. Now we get a look at a some quality knee protection that you can get on a smaller budget. The TP199 Knee Pad from EVS is one of the most popular knee/shin protectors on the market and delivers the quality safety features you would expect from EVS and, if you didn't already guess it, the TP199 was developed specifically for Travis Pastrana. Get it..TP 199? The TP199 Knee/Shin Guards offers everything for those looking for complete support without the bulk of a traditional knee brace. They are perfect for both track and trail riders. The TP199 features: •Cut and abrasion knee cup design utilizing "advanced impact foam" technology. Molded bio-foam upper for increased impact protection. •Silicone strip on inner sleeve helps limit migration while riding. •Integrated internal floating knee sleeve helps give continued support even during brace migration. •Fully breathable mesh backing to help with temperature control. •Low profile, hard molded shin guard slips easily into your boot. FTR racer Chandler Hill had a chance to give the TP199 a try. " From a rider that has never really worn kneepads in the past I was skeptical about wearing them. After riding a two hour race and four laps on a eleven mile track, I
realized that the EVS TP199 Kneepads are my new best friend! Not once did they move around or become annoying, not even a rash was left on my knee or leg. I’d like to thank FTR Magazine For this amazing product they’ve let me demo , I can’t wait to put them on again!" The EVS TP199 Knee pad retails for $99.00, a small price to pay for protecting one of the most fragile parts of your body.

Catching up with Bee!

t's always nice when FTR members keep in touch after they move, especially when the younger riders update us on how their education and future are shaping up. Bryanne Parks has been busy doing just that. Bryanne attended her senior prom with her friend Bailey Morgerson who she met through GNCC racing. He and his parents flew in from Kentucky so she could have the perfect prom with her best friend. Bee will be graduating from Rockledge High School with Honors and an AA degree from Eastern Florida State College and, to start her next adventure, she has been accepted to the University of Florida which she will begin attending in July. Congratulations Bee! All of FTR is proud of you.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS
Back in March, the opening round of the Grand National Cross Country Racing Series was back in Palatka, Florida at the infamous Hogwaller ATV Park. This is where the Florida boys and girls shine. It's the only stop during the GNCC series that has this much sand which the racers north of the border are not used to. As usual there was a very large turn out of FTR members leading the way around the challenging course. There were so many locals that the Florida Trail Riders should be an official sponsor of the event. FTR Magazine got a hold of a small sample of the awesome show of FTR force that took part in this GNCC event. Here are some FTR members that are not pictured that won their classes: Avery Collins, Michael Terango, Michael Ferguson, Wayne Whitehead, Angel Berrios, Jose Alacon, Greg Melka, Ed Higgins, Evelina Peroni, Kasey Moore, Alex Lugar, Bryce Koster, Jesse Ansley, Chris Bach, and Douglas Watson. All photos belong to the photographers.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS Top Three Mistakes When Recovering from an Injury and How to Avoid Them – Part 1
N
obody enjoys becoming injured due to overuse or an unforeseeable impact that happens in less than a second; however, as the old saying goes, as an athlete, if you haven’t already been injured, most likely you will be at some point. Once you cross that fine line, here are three areas – physical, mental and nutrition - that tend to get handled incorrectly making the healing process both difficult and slow. Physical First and foremost, follow your doctor’s and physical therapist rehab protocols and complete the entire duration outlined. Coming back too early will only result in less strength, endurance and long-term ramifications like limited range of motion, joint stiffness and unwanted scar tissue. As an athlete this will also result in less speed, agility, strength and endurance. Unless you have a high impact injury that affects more than one area of your body, you are normally dealing with one area of injury. With this being said, you still have 90-95% of your body left to strengthen and expose to cardiovascular improvement. This usually requires becoming creative with your cardio. If you have broken an elbow or wrist, you can use a recumbent bike, walk in the pool with a pair of sneakers, or use a zero-gravity treadmill. If you Robb with Moto E rider Dylan Greer who have broken an ankle or torn Coach took a tumble at Lorreta Lynn's. an ACL or MCL you can get a vacuum sleeve to cover the injured area and swim. If you are in a wheel chair because of a leg injury, you can use a Concept 2 Ski Erg. Despite being injured, your strength can be maintained and even enhanced with a variety of options: stretch cords, TRX systems, free weights, kettle bells and medicine balls. If you let pain be your dictator and you are not masking the true pain with pain killer medicine, you will keep yourself from doing too much and slowing down the healing process. With regards to pain medicine, it is imperative that you mask the pain and discomfort with over the counter pain medicines, but ONLY while you sleep. The key is to reduce the chances of your body being woken up due to pain. The deeper your sleep, the longer you are asleep, and the more sleep cycles you can complete per night will ensure that your body is repairing itself as quickly as possible. To maximize the probability of quality, pain-free sleep, eat a high-quality snack or smoothie ( www.coachrobbstore.com/ product/coach-robb-smoothie-recipes ) that is rich in protein and
18 www.floridatrailriders.org
good fats to satisfy appetite and then consume your pain medicine. The fat and protein will satisfy your hierarchy of need of hunger and the ibuprofen will mask the pain allowing you to sleep deeper and with less interruptions. When discussing the physical side of an injury, the concept of non-sweating physical elements is frequently MOTO E rider Logan Best recovery from a tumble at the Daytona overlooked. Soft Amateur SX. tissue maintenance such as foam rolling and trigger point therapy changes the consistency of the soft tissue meaning that it will respond to pressure by opening the blood vessels bringing nutrients and oxygen-rich blood into the tissue. Fresh blood flow will speed up the healing process. Another soft tissue modality is contrast therapy where you use cold and hot water to stimulate and change the consistency of the muscle tissue. One of the main reasons why contrast therapy is often discarded is due to the mind set that it has to be so extreme: extremely hot or extremely cold. This is not the case. Think about contrast therapy this way, the bigger the temperate difference, the more effective the therapy is to the tissue. For example, if you have the cold water at 70 degrees and the warm water and 110 the difference is 40 degrees. You can create the same difference if you lowered the cold to 65 and the warm water to 105. Your body doesn’t know the difference in temperature highs and lows, just the difference. If you don’t like extreme colds and you believe that you must be in nearly freezing water and/or it is so cold you feel like your skin is going to burn off your body, you are more prone to avoid contrast therapy. This all or nothing mind set has to be changed. In addition to foam rolling, trigger point therapy and contrast therapy, you can always schedule a therapeutic massage. A qualified massage therapist that works on your muscles, tendons and ligaments can identify muscle patterns associated with pain and limited range of motion. For example, if you have injured your shoulder, a massage therapist can help you identify what muscles in your chest or your shoulder blades are excessively tight and causing unwanted “pulling” on the head of your humerus (the top of your arm in your shoulder) resulting in additional pain and limited range of motion. The same applies to each joint in your body.
The irony of these non-sweating components: creative cardio, sleep quality, contrast therapy, massage therapy, etc., should be part of every athlete’s daily routine; however, these are the components that are frequently left out resulting in being mentally bored, physically stale, reduced range of motion, increased nagging injuries and ultimate frustration.
Coach Robb has been working with riders and racers since 1987 and is the founder of the Complete Racing Solutions Performance System, the Mental Blueprint of Success, the MotoE Amateur Development Program, the MotoE Educational Series and Nutritionally Green Supplements based out of Orlando Florida.
By staying focused on these specific physical components, you will come back from your injury stronger, with enhanced range of motion allowing for better sport specific biomechanics, improved speed, strength and endurance with the areas of your body that are not inured and healing. Once you get clearance from your doctor to resume normal activity with your injured body part, you only have to improve that one area, versus the entire body.
