FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS THE PREZ

SAYS

My FTR family, Our awards ceremony this year topped all our expectations with many outstanding performances both on the stage and around the room. The banquet committee really out did themselves this year as the bar was raised yet again. Also, our volunteers put on one heck of a show as the room was packed with excitement and a festive atmosphere. As the doors opened early Friday morning, the crew walked into an empty room and by 5:00 that afternoon, 90% of everything was done. Being there and witnessing the coordination, planning and the team work was a thing of art. These ladies worked their tails off and darn near worked me and a hand full of guys into the ground. As our vendors started arriving Friday things really started to take shape with some very nice displays and, as you could tell, they have done this before. One of our newest supporters was Klim Motorcycle Gear. They’re display had a KTM 125 suspended by attaching it to a Klim Off-Road jacket and it stayed there all day without even a slightest movement. It was a testament to the quality and workmanship these jackets bring to the off-road world. It was almost like Christmas for many members as several deals were made and deposits were taken on bikes for this season and, hopefully, they went over and visited HBD Moto Grafx or Step Up MX and ordered their graphics kit. All of our vendors and dealerships did an awesome job this year contributing and having some fantastic displays. As we all get ready to go racing in a few weeks, remember those that support FTR and supported our expo when you need parts, accessories and apparel. From apparel, bikes, suspension and even seats, the bases were covered to get you ready for the new season. Thank You to all that helped and contributed to our awards expo, it wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for you. Your unselfish determination makes great things happen as this was a prime example of what giving back is all about. You guys and gals are Awesome! There’s also word of a video going viral with one of the committee organizers up on stage shaking and breaking , if any of you know who that might be, check her heart rate it’s got to be off the chart. Lol Thanks for listening, Randy Faul

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS SPECIAL NOTICE

Record of FTR Executive Committee Decision – August 22, 2016 Location: Electronic vote via email Members participating: Randy Faul (President), Kevin Vaughan (Treasurer), Jack Terrell (Secretary), Randy Rash (HS Chair), Allen Pearce (Enduro Chair), Carol Preston, (MX Chair) Members not participating: Amanda Richardson (Vice President) The Executive Committee has received an e-mail from Amanda Richardson resigning her position as Vice President. The text of the message follow: “It is with a heavy heart that I type this e-mail to inform you all that I will be stepping down as vice president. With my last semester quickly approaching and my current internship, my time for outside activities has been extremely limited. I’m sure all of you can appreciate the transition from kid to adult, trying to plan for the future and how time consuming it all is. I’m on track to graduate in December, at which time I will be house and career searching. It would not only benefit me to step down, but it is without doubt the best decision for the organization. The position of vice president is an important role that needs to be seated with someone involved, passionate and easily accessible. Thank you not only for your consideration, your time and everything you all do for our organization, but also for allowing me to be a part of this great team and organization.” The Executive Committee has accepted Amanda’s resignation with regrets, thanking her for her many hours of volunteer service to FTR. We will miss her and we wish her success in her new occupational pursuits. An electronic vote was taken on a motion to accept Amanda Richardson’s written resignation as Vice President, to declare the position to be vacant, and to call for a special election to fill the unexpired term (1 year) of the Vice President. The election shall be held concurrently with the 2016 FTR general election. The motion was seconded and unanimously passed. Minutes submitted by Jack Terrell, FTR Secretary

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS PITBITS Discover Enduro Fork Armor Ok, so the terrain in Florida isn’t as brutal as the boulder strewn landscape out West but anything can happen, right? Discover Enduro has designed lightweight lower fork guards that keep trail funk and trash from damaging your lower fork legs and brake mounts on your KTM, Husqvarna, Husaberg and Sherco. These very durable guards offer some peace of mind protecting one of the most expensive parts on your bike. Take it from B 200 High Point Champion Jordan Leftwich “I have ridden 3 races and numerous training sessions with

the Discover Enduro Fork Armor on my KTM 200 xc-w and have been really impressed with how these protect my lower forks. Simple installation, it took all of 5 minutes to install. Fit was perfect. If you ride rocky or rough terrain, I would highly recommend these.” GNCC guys will especially appreciate the Fork Armor attacking the rocky terrain of the North East. For more information check them out at www.discoverenduro.net. Retail: $59.99 For the first two KTM riders out there that reads this and can find me at the track I’ve got two sets to give out.

In case you haven’t heard, FMF is selling the DA8 STRONG Tee to help support off-road legend Destry Abbott battle his way through Leukemia. 100% of the proceeds go to Destry’s medical bills which are sure to be enormous. You can get it on the FMF website for $25.

Sept 10-11: The woods are fresh and tight, and covered in that trademark black NY loam. It rains here quite a bit, and the course will get tough due to the soft soil. But it offers better traction when wet than the slippery clay in Ohio. But it doesn’t matter. The New Yorkers are a hearty bunch and they’re not afraid to tackle the mud.

Sept 24-25: Located just outside Morgantown, West Virginia, Marvin’s Mountain Top offers up plenty of the rough terrain that the Wild & Wonderful state is known for. The ground at the Mountain Top is exactly what you would expect from a mountain, it’s rocky! The soil is a mix of clay and excellent top soil in some of the fresher wood sections. The course starts on top of the mountain, and makes its way around the edges, and slightly down the sides of the mountain, don’t worry about any technical hill climbs as many of the hills are a nice gradual incline.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

F

orty five years ago a months rent cost $150.00, a gallon of gas was .40 cents and you could pick up a brand new off-road motorcycle for less than a grand. Forty five years ago the Florida Trail Riders Association was born with names like Ken Keylon Sr and Kevin Stevens dominating the FTR Enduro series and soon after names like Mike Leeson, Marcus Ricketts and Kenny Keylon tearing up the new Hare Scrambles series. Now, in 2016, FTR is stronger than ever with a new generation of talented racers, Bryce Koster, Jesse Ansley, Ron Commo and, of course, ten time overall champ Garrett Edmisten, to name a few. The 2015-2016 Awards Expo Celebration was a tribute to not only all of this years champions but to the whole FTR organization. The whole Expo crew once again raised the bar and put on a flawless event. This year was special in that FTR was graced with the presence of AM Pro Yamaha Owner and Hall of Fame racer Randy Hawkins again but this time he had some company with GNCC pro Quad racers Walker Fauler and Johnny Gallagher and JCR Honda’s Chris Bach. If you attended, you found out what a great family the Florida Trail Riders has become too so many. Here’s to forty five more years of FTR fun.

16 Special Thanks to G2, Dekdef Photos and Tracy Bartlett for capturing all of the memories.

Jesse Ansley shows what it took to take home his A 200 Trophy.

Number One’s all around for Plus 30 Champ Gabriel Ramirez.

I had an amazing time at the EXPO. My favorite part was getting my trophy and thanking my mom, dad, grandma, Ol’ Red and TF Suspension. It was cool to have a pro-rider interview me. I was really surprised I was fast enough to get 2nd place in the championship. The best part of last season was the mud races and helping Dawson Baker at Maxville. We were stuck together in the mud. I look forward to moving up to 85C this season and I will try to take the championship. I would also like to thank HBD for my new graphics. -Gunner Williams 65C

Pee Wee A Champ Jimmy Moore signing covers like a pro.

Pros Johnny Gallager, Chris Bach, and Walker Fowler having fun.

We had a Rhino now we have a Wolverine coming to the rescue. The brand new safety vehicle made is first appearance.

Cristy Ansley, Mary Nutter, Dorothy Dekmar, and Gillian Lugar huddle before the craziness bgins.

The 2016 FTR Awards Expo had a great turnout and provided great memories.

2016 SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR

John Goddard presented the sportsman of the year award by Jenni Lamb

18

John Goddard (Silver Master B) stopped to help a fellow rider within the first mile at the SADRA race, the next to last race of the year. He stopped without regard to his race and his bid for winning the championship. All he knew was that someone was hurt and he needed to help. Since meeting John, everyone that I have met that knows him says the same thing about him -- he has a heart of gold. -Jenni Lamb

Silver Master B Champ Danny Kittell and his wife Wanda having a great time.

Women’s Vet racer Elesa Berard enjoyed seeing lots of friends at the 2016 Awards Expo. Her favorite part of this past season is successfully promoting the 40th Annual Richloam Enduro. Elsa’s looking forward to a new season with no injuries and racing every race.

Glad to see Tom Glancy could make it to receive his 3rd place Master C Trophy.

200 C racer Larry Adams was amazed at the setup of the Expo and was surprised at the size of the youth trophies. Larry really enjoyed battling with his friend Michael Collins at every race. “I’m glad Michael and I are great friends but won’t give up a position for nothing?” Larry’s looking forward to riding his new bike to a 200 B and Overall B championship.

Silver Master A racer Paul Giorgio holds his 3rd place trophy up high for all to see

One way to be taller than GNCC XC1 Pro Chris Bach is to win first place like Mini C Champ Dennis Riggs did. Great job Dennis!

Jenni, Tyler, Alli and Scott Lamb are a true racing family, having fun with all of their new hardware.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS 2016 Pit Mom of the Year Laura Lynn

I

would like to nominate my mom (Laura Lynn) as Pit Mom of the Year. My mom is an amazing, selfless, & supportive mother despite the most difficult of circumstances. My sister was tragically injured in a riding accident and our lives were forever changed. My mom never asked me to stop riding. She continued to support me & my dreams despite the negativity from so many others saying that they would not allow me to continue riding. Even the times my mom was not at the races because she was taking care of my sister, she was still my biggest cheerleader and I swear I could hear her cheering from all those miles away. During this season, my family suffered the devastating loss of my beautiful sister. Despite how heartbroken & sad my mom is she supported my decision to continue on with the season after the funeral. And even though I know the last thing she wanted was to be around other people, she was back out at the races cheering me on multiple times a lap. I am so grateful to my mom for believing in me & being my biggest cheerleader during my struggling season. My mom is a great example of what a pit mom should be!! -Landon Lynn

I

would like to nominate Laura Lynn for Pit Mom of the Year. She is a strong women who has endured so much this past year but she continues to support her son Landon in a sport that has taken something so special away from her. Now that is true strength. I see her out there with her iPad recording and she is always on the sidelines cheering Landon on. She is what this is all about….supporting your youth and guiding them to be great individuals. -Ellen Fleming

2016 Presidents Award Winner : Carol Preston

I

n presenting the presidents award, there were many that were deserving of it but the one that stands out year after year is Carol Preston. The amount of time and unselfishness that continues to be given to our organization from Carol displays the true passion that she exhibits. From being involved with two clubs, an active member of our safety crew both at our Hare Scrambles and the Enduro series, to being our Motocross chair working hard trying to bring the series back. I would like to recognize and present Carol Preston the 2015/2016 Presidents Award. -Randy Faul

Quad PW C racer Avery Collins and GNCC XC1 Pro Chris Bach have a conversation.

It’s all good for Step Up MX’s Troy Downs.

Donny receives a well deserved Safety Team appreciation award from FTR President Randy Faul.

The Helmet Coloring Contest was, as always, a very busy area where some of the coolest helmet design were being created. Payton Willis took home a new helmet from Gable Motorsports of Wesley Chapel for the 9-13 age group and Avery Collins won a new lid from Axis Powersports at Croom in the 4-8 age group. Great job to all the Pee Wee’s that participated and to Tray Bartlett for organizing the event.

Pee Wee A Champ, Logan Crawford, really enjoyed hanging out with friends he hasn’t seen since the season ended and couldn’t get over the size of the trophies. Logan is looking forward to moving up to the big track and plans on staying healthy and competing for the 65 championship. Logan Crawford hanging out with Gunner Williams.

In her first year of racing, Avery Ennis took home a huge 2nd place trophy in Pee Wee C. This is what it’s all about.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

Bryce Koster had a huge day for Seminole Powersports.

Tom Fleming presented Blake Yahraus with a special TF Racing achievement award.

Quad PW B Champ “Rocky” Raquel Tucker gets a special podium interview from GNCC XC1 Quad Champion Walker Fowler.

Michael Jones takes some pointers from his son, Mikey, and his 2016 Plus 30 KOW Helmet trophy.

Glenn Gardner gets in front of the lens to share the moment with Junior B Champ Josh Tolken.

Quad C Open racer Dalton Ellis had a great time walking around and talking to everybody, that he usually sees only on race days, in a relaxed environment. He was surprised to see the GNCC Pros there. Dalton was most excited about his class win at Maxville he got this past season which was very welcome due to a year of mechanical failures and a rouge tree at Dade City; he lost that one by 27 seconds. This quad racer is really looking forward to the new season of riding, camping, and relaxing with friends and hopes to score a top 5 finish every race.

A special thank you goes out to the following clubs for their gracious scholarship donations: •SADRA-$1000 •Nature Coast Trailblazers- $250 CFTR- $1000 •Suncoast Trailblazers- $500 OSDR- $500 •SEFTR- $500 •DDR- $250 Thank You to Scott Dawson and East Coast for the donation of the very cool FTR T-Shirts.

Tony Livingston was proud of his Vet C Championship trophy and said he was extremely humbled to be the 2016 recipient of the TF Racing Personal Achievement Award. Tony enjoyed the vendor booths and spending time with friends and his nephew/crew chief Lil D. He’s looking forward to a new season of being around motorcycles and having some good wholesome fun with the people that enjoy them. Tony’s moving up to B class and hopes to get a top 5 for the series, if not the championship. He also is aiming to compete in both Hare Scrambles and Enduro’s. Good Luck Tony.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS OFFICIAL BUSINESS

Minutes of July 30, 2016 FTR Board of Directors Meeting Location:Ocean Center, Daytona Beach, FL Meeting called to order at 9:04 AM by President Randy Faul Roll Call was conducted and the President noted that a quorum was present (13 members) Members present: President, Secretary, Treasurer, HS Chair, Enduro Chair, MX Chair, and Directors from Areas 1, 3,6,9,10, 11 and 13 Members not present: Vice President, and Directors from Areas 2 (vacant), 4, 5, 7, 8 and 12 (vacant) Guests: Don and Tiffany St. John, Tim and Lisa Nordle, Elesa Berard, and Dan Aitken President’s Report: Thanked all members for attending this meeting and for serving on the Board during 2016. Asked that officers and board members limit the length of reports and discussions so that all required business could be conducted in time to attend the Awards Expo scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. Reported on the events planned for the Awards Expo and recognized the hard work of Ellen Fleming and all the members of the Banquet Committee. He noted that Ellen Fleming and the same team had performed the monumental task of planning and running the event for multiple years, and he asked for new volunteers to step up for the 2017 year-end event. Lisa Nordle volunteered to be the Banquet Committee Chairperson for 2017. The Board enthusiastically accepted Lisa’s offer and asked the Executive Committee to confirm it. Reported that FTR continues to have problems with some of the content appearing on the FTR Forum and the FTR Facebook page. This content presents a negative image of FTR among FTR members, the off-road public, the off-road power sports industry, and the general public. It also places an unreasonable burden on the FTR volunteers who act as forum moderators/administrators. All FTR members are urged to assist in correcting this problem. If FTR members continue to post inappropriate content, the Executive Committee will take action to limit access to, or shut down, these sites. Treasurer’s Report: Provided copies of latest financial statement Old Business: Carol Preston passed out copies of minutes of the June 18, 2016 Board of Directors meeting. The President thanked Carol for recording the minutes due to the Secretary’s absence from that meeting. A copy of the June 18, 2016 minutes is attached to these minutes. Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes. Motion passed by unanimous vote. New Business: A motion was made and seconded to set the 1-day FTR membership dues (for non-members entering FTR hare scrambles events) at $20 (adults) and $10 (Peewees) for the 2016-2017 competition season. The motion failed to pass by a vote of 4 Yes to 10 No. A new motion was made and seconded to set the 1-day FTR membership dues (for non-members entering FTR hare scrambles events) at $25 (adults) and $10 (Peewees) for the 2016-2017 competition season. The motion passed by a 13 to 1 vote. The Enduro Chair asked the Board to reconsider their previous decision (at June 18, 2016 meeting) to not approve the Enduro Committee’s approval to add a 70+ class to the enduro rules. Since the last Board meeting SETRA has added the class (many of the FTR enduro’s are co-sanctioned with SETRA) and the Enduro Chair has obtained financial support (outside of head tax money) to pay for the additional year-end awards for the class. Motion made and seconded to reconsider the previous decision and to approve the Enduro Committee-approved rule change to add a 70+ class (for 0-Open displacement machines). The motion passed by a 9-2 vote. Note: This rule change applies to Chapter III, General Rules, D. Rider Classifications, 1. Enduro; and Paragraph L. Competition Apparel & Equipment, 6. Enduros; and Chapter IV, Enduro Rules, B. Classification of Riders, 1. (changes number of rider divisions).

Discussion of recently implemented AMA competition rule that prohibits riders under 14 years of age from riding a machine larger than 250cc. It was noted that adequate notice of this change had not been posted on the FTR website to allow the Board to approve this rule change (on second reading) at this meeting. However, the Board suggested that the Hare Scrambles Committee adopt this as an emergency rule change, and that it be presented to the Executive Committee for approval in accordance with emergency rule change requirements, and that a notice be placed on the FTR website advising hare scrambles competitors of this upcoming action. Tim Nordle asked the Board to consider implementation of an online pre-entry system for hare scrambles events. After a short discussion it was referred to the Executive Committee for consideration. Motion made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:54AM. Submitted by Jack Terrell, FTR Secretary Record of FTR Executive Committee Decision – August 4, 2016 Location: Conference Call (8:00 PM) Roll call was conducted and the President noted that a quorum was present. Members present: Randy Faul (President), Kevin Vaughan (Treasurer), Jack Terrell (Secretary), Randy Rash (HS Chair), Allen Pearce (Enduro Chair), Carol Preston, (MX Chair) Members not present: Amanda Richardson (Vice President) Visitors participating: Tim Nordle and Johnathan Lonsdale Old Business: None New Business: Tim Nordle requested (at the July 30, 2016 Board of Directors meeting) approval to contract with I Am Athlete, LLC, a California limited liability corporation (“imATHLETE”), to provide online pre-entry services for FTR hare scrambles events. At the time of that meeting Tim was directed to submit the request to the Executive Committee. Immediately after that meeting Tim submitted via email a copy of the proposed contract to the Executive Committee. Tim requested approval of the contract since the software provided by with the service provides real-time access to entries, provides the data in a format that allows it to be entered automatically into the FTR scoring database, and provides rapid transfer of funds to FTR. After Tim explained the benefits and costs of the service, a motion was made and seconded to approve signing the contract. The motion was approved by a 5-1 vote (Treasurer voting No). Tim was instructed to post information on the FTR website outlining the times and locations where pre-entrants will be able to pick-up armbands and access tech inspection. Motion made, seconded, and approved by unanimous vote to appoint Bill Drymon as 2016 Election Committee Chair. Motion made, seconded, and approved by unanimous vote to appoint Lisa Nordle as the 2017 Banquet Committee Chair. Motion made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote to adjourn at 9:03PM.
