FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS A

s you read this we are winding down our race season with DDR and RCDR finishing out the schedule and a lot of championships have just been decided at these last two events. Prior to the May races, we visited the Nature coast event with some great weather and a course to bring out the speed gun which proved to be very popular with the riders. Next was the Apollo event which really comes to mind as they got just enough rain on Saturday night to bring their dirt to almost perfect conditions for Sunday. I think Mark was correct when he said the stars and planets were going to align to give us some rain. Speaking of the Apollo event, we experienced a little throwback from the beginning days as somehow we ended up sporting the TF Racing box truck for the weekend along with our spoiled brat Boston Terrier. You would think we were going on vacation for a week or more; we brought everything except for the kitchen sink and I think it was packed in there somewhere. It’s been a long time since we made a workshop on wheels our home for the weekend but somehow we managed thanks to one tough lady as my copilot. The ride back home brought back some real “back in the day” memories as we reminded ourselves of how it was normal to throw the bike in the back of a van and go to the races and didn’t think anything of it. Of course this was back in

his past weekend Betty and I were helping some friends move. While loading my truck, my friend’s neighbor started his car and drove down the road. As soon as he hit the starter, the car’s engine started making a very loud “clang, clang, clang” sound. One of the connecting rods sounded like it was ready to come through the side of the engine at any minute. I was amazed he could even drive the car! I have seen (and heard) this before. I had an early Hodaka 125 Wombat in the 70’s. (yes, I know, they are now in the Vintage class!) The engine had a fatal design flaw called harmonic vibration. The engine would literally destroy itself requiring a complete rebuild from crankshaft bearings to new piston and rings. It took five rebuilds and one completely new engine over a 1-year period before Hodaka got it right. As people, we too have a fatal flaw. It is sin. The word literally means to “miss the mark” as in an archer missing the target. The apostle Paul in Romans 7:15-25 put it this way, "What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise... I decide to do good, but I don’t really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. …It happens so regularly that it’s predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I’ve tried everything, and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions.” Jesus understands the conflict in our hearts and lives. He experienced every challenge and temptation we have and yet

the early 70’s and we were still newlyweds and we didn’t know any better. The word van was not like the Mercedes Sprinters of today. Our van had all the race experiences needed to assure you that you were going racing. The smell of premix going down the road and into the night even though we put the gas can outside. The walls and floor was stained with fuel that kept us all hyped up until race day. Sleeping was a challenge as there wasn’t enough room to stretch out and the sweat running down your face made for only a few hours for quality sleep. Yeah, back in the day we dreamed, "If we only had a box truck we could be like the factory boys." LOL Well, we were factory for this weekend and loved it; well not really loving it but darn close as we didn’t have to smell gas fumes but had a snoring dog that kept us awake! I would say I’m getting too old for all of this but nobody would believe me, especially the owner of the box truck! Thanks for listening Factory RF817

remained perfect, sinless. He is the only One who can pay the price for our sin. All the good things we do as a spouse, parent, family member, friend, employee etc. may look pretty good when compared to other people. But when we compare ourselves to a perfect and Holy God, we all fall short. That fatal flaw raises its ugly head. Bottom line to consider; 1. There is a God. 2. You’re not Him. 3. Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. 4. God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master. (Romans 6:23). Jesus is ready, willing and able to give you that new life, that rebuild, that fresh engine. Only He can overcome that fatal flaw! We have started “The Good Race” joy service every Saturday night from 7:30 to 7:45 pm. We meet at the CMA tent on vendor’s row. Bring a chair and come join us! ello fellow FTR members! It is being held, once again, at the Ocean Center in sunny Daytona Beach Florida on August 4th, 2018! The food at the banquet will be concession style again this year. The concession stand will be solely for the use of FTR banquet attendees, unlike last year. The ticket prices do NOT include any food. Pre-purchased tickets are $10 per person 13 years and older, $5 per person for ages 5 to 12, and any person under the age of 5 will be free. There is a $5 increase for tickets that will be purchased at the door the day of the event. The link for the tickets is on the front page of the FTR website

We are almost done with the season, so I hope you all have been submitting who you would nominate for Pit Mom/Dad and Sportsman of the year! This year's banquet will be semi-formal attire/business attire!! The banquet will be later in the evening so all attendees can go enjoy the beach and other fun attractions during the day. So NO BEACH ATTIRE! We ask that anyone attending the banquet stays for the entire length of the banquet, out of respect and support for fellow racers (this was an issue last year). Randy Hawkins from Am-Pro Yamaha will be on hand and will be helping with the on stage ceremony. ust four short years ago Logan Stewart and Julia Cone were battling it out in the dirt for the Mini B Class Championship. Logan won by 2 points. Julia kept him on his toes that season and they haven't slowed down one bit. Fast forward to 2018 and the two are headed to Senior Prom together and Logan is graduating from Santa Fe High School. Congratulations to the both of you.

BULLET PROOF DESIGNS RADIATOR GUARDS When it comes to protecting those vital parts of your dirt scooter most will not hesitate to drop some funds on a skid plate or disc guards for the brake rotors. Frame guards and those trick looking carbon fiber guards wrapping exhaust pipe are common place in the pits. What about your radiators? After all, if your radiators are damage during a race from a flying rock or a piercing palmetto or tree branch chances are you're done for the day or, for the diehards, you try to finish only to blow your motor due to overheating. We all know the plastic radiator louvers that come on a dirt bike when you roll it off the showroom floor. They work pretty good for a while but eventually they become a warped, twisted mess from all the hours of abuse and neglect while taking the hits for your cooling system. Radiators are an expensive and a vital part to your ride. Why not give them the protection they deserve. The folks over at Bullet Proof Designs very graciously handed over a couple sets of their aluminium patented Radiator Guards or RAD Guards as they are known. These things are solid. Each set of guards is machined from a block of Aerospace grade 6061-T6 billet aluminum and that sounds as cool as they are strong. They are designed as to not restrict airflow which in turn allows proper cooling of your dirt bike. The first thing I noticed out of the package was how light they were, especially for how beefy they felt. The guards weigh in at a measly 24 oz. Mounting a set on my YZ250 was a snap. Everything lined up just right and I was impressed in the

amount of protection they offered just sitting still. These guards are a little oversized for my bike giving them a decent amount of side protection in case of a spill. I did get a chance to test that out way back at the OSDR hare scramble and they held up fine. The second set of RAD guards the folks at Bullet Proof sent were for a KTM/Husquavarna. Siver Master B racer Mike Pakledinaz put them to the test. " I was given Bullet Proof Designs radiator guards to try on my 2017 Husky FX 450. Install was very easy and the fit was right on. Very clean look. Fortunately I have not put them to an extreme test (tree) but have had multiple low speed earth samples. After one of them I must have tweaked the right side guard and developed a vibration rattle. I have separated the radiator from the guard with an isolator (piece of tire tube) and have had no issues since. Since they are a billet product compared to a cast product they have some forgiveness to them where I have had the cast type break at the mounting tabs in same “tests”. I ride Croom regularly and typically have a problem with dry leaves getting in between the Stock guards and radiator which tend to block air flow. These guards don’t allow that to happen. I would give them an A for install and an A for Performance." The RAD guards are available for many models and come in a few colors depending on your bike. Bullet Proof Designs also makes a wide range of other billet protection for dirt bikes with the same precision and quality as the RAD guards. Kelsey Saltar Name: Kelsey Saltar Age 27 Class Women A & Vintage Bike. 2013 KTM 200 or 2017 KTM 450 & 1972 Yamaha 125 when Chimo doesn’t feel like racing it! Number: 28 Family life: I have a very supportive family, starting with my husband. He drives me to stay in shape and be race ready, he’s a great mechanic and pit crew. My parents are my drive! They have supported my racing for 20+ years, they get us to every race and my dads my biggest sponsor! What got you into racing: My dad, he was racing A Open in the early 90s. I started racing at age 3 Best season finish: 1st place Women A, 2nd Place Evo A 2008 I believe Favorite individual win: 2013 at Samsula. This was the first race back after I had my son and My Dad was starting 3 rows ahead of me. My goal was to win but also to catch my dad. Lap after lap I felt faster but couldn’t catch him until the very last lap where I saw him exiting a field as I was entering. I hammered down to try to catch him before the finish..He ended up coming in 10 seconds before I did, I was the very next bike behind him! It was an amazing ride trying to catch my old man who retired from racing after that race! What do you do to train: I go to a personal trainer 4 days a week focusing on cardio and endurance training Who is your biggest inspiration on the track: Barry McCarty and Dustin Morgan they are awesome, fast, and courteous Off the track: My dad, he runs a successful business, always has fun, and even in his 50s he’s still super fast! Who is your biggest competition on the track: Holly Langford, she has really stepped her riding skills up and gave me a good run! I enjoy racing with her! If you could take personal lessons from someone who would it be: Bryce Koster Biggest change in your racing program that has had the biggest impact on your racing: Switching from my 450 to my 200! Fav track: L-Cross Biggest life lesson learned from racing FTR: “Be kinder, gentler, more finesse” - Donnie Richardson

If you could change one thing in FTR what would it be: I would make all trophy’s something we could use not just a piece of wood or plastic. Are you in a club: Yes Which one: Daytona Dirt Riders Are you an active member, Help build the track etc: Yes Will you ever run for office in your club or FTR: Maybe if the position comes available at the right time. What are your thoughts on getting the youth more involved to be able to take FTR into a successful future: I believe Dustin Morgan and Team DTR has the right idea. He is taking a few young boys that have never road, providing them with bikes, gear and the experience of racing. This is teaching them discipline, responsibility, and the drive to succeed. One of his youth riders Tydarius Jones won his first season in Mini C last year and is continually working his way up! I am pleased to be so close with these guys! How about an update on your surgery: My surgery was December 2016. I have lost about 100lbs, gained muscle, a good sense of nutrition and learned a lot about me! Explain the attached photo: Brantley was scared after falling, I'm assuming I was telling him to “GOOOO” Whose kid is in your arms: My jacket and my phone, I was face book live recording Brantleys race, no kid. Who are you yelling at: My 4 year old son Brantley who says he wants to be like Ronnie Hames when he gets bigger Do you think you might be scaring one of them? Nah, I only yell to him and then chase him.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS Race report: Amber Trapnell Women A -3rd place got off to a horrible start which was not going to be fun because of the dust. So I was basically last off the line and now playing catch up to everyone. Came across the first wooden bridge and spotted my friend Monika who also races in the women A class and she was stuck behind someone who had fallen. I decided to use my same line from practice which was to the left of the bridge through the ditch. Now I’m in third trying to catch up to second, but knew they were probably way gone at that point. So now I’m just trying to stay consistent and not make any mistakes. Took the hard line 4/4 including practice which I was very proud of. Now I’m in my last lap which I’m starting to get tired, but we get to the field section and I look back and Monika has now caught back up to me and is a turn away. We go into the woods that way and come out the other way. She had found a quicker line than I did and made the pass. So now I’m trying to keep up but at the same time ride smart as well. We split at the hard/easy and I had some trouble at the top but made it without falling. Now I’m not sure who is in front of who now. So I keep pushing to make it to the finish and the off camber turn on the hill I saw Monika’s gear and knew it was the last lap and the chicane was less than a half mile ahead of us. So I pushed and now we are side by side going up the last little hill luckily I didn’t slide out up that last hill. We finished with one second separating us. Honestly I have way more fun racing against someone with it being that close because it’s so much fun to push each other.

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS OFFICIAL BUSINESS Please send bid proposals to: Randy Faul 1254 NW Brownville St. Arcadia, Florida 34266 Deadline for bids proposals is May 31, 2018. Electronic Scorekeeping Bid Proposal This bid proposal is for the Independent Contractor position of Electronic Scorekeeper. The Contractor is responsible for providing scorekeeping maintenance for FTR as specified in the contract. The services provided by the Contractor shall be performed for the exclusive benefit of FTR. The Contractor’s official contact with FTR will be the FTR Executive Committee, with the Hare Scramble Committee Chairman as the primary point of contact. Responsibilities and duties include: 1. Maintain FTR trailer, all sign up and scoring equipment, including hardware and software, radios, and any other equipment entrusted to your care. Assure that all equipment is fully operational before each event. Arrange for repairs and/ or replacement equipment, as necessary (as indicated in paragraph 8 above). 2. Keep trailer supplied with all materials needed to sign up and score participants at the Hare Scramble events. 3. Arrive at all Hare Scramble event sites no later than 11:59 PM on Friday night to set up for sign-up and scoring. Provider must remain on-site until all scoring is been completed, all protests settled, and all FTR equipment and supplies have been returned to the FTR trailer. 4. Deliver the radios, fully charged, to the club for their use. 5. Assure that all participants in the Hare Scramble events are scored. In the event of an unseen equipment failure, the hosting club will provide personnel to score the riders, commonly known as backup scoring. Scorekeeper maintenance service will provide own backup scorekeeper to be trained and present at all Hare Scramble events. Provide coordination and personnel for sign-up crew. 6. Work with the Hare Scrambles Chairman, Referees, and Scorekeeper to resolve protests and make the appropriate corrections and revisions to the scores of the series. 7. Collect all FTR equipment before leaving the hare scramble event. 8. Provide all Hare Scramble scores for posting at the Hare Scramble event. Post all scores, including overall scores and promotion points to the website. Provide scores to the FTR magazine editor after each event. 9. Provide to business manager each race statistics for billing and documentation. 10. Generate the advancement letters to all riders in all competition series as advancement criteria are reached. 11. Strive to improve efficiencies and minimize costs. 12. Check membership for riders who have demoted themselves without proper authorization or attempting to ride in an incorrect class. Coordinate with appointed Hare Scramble Scorekeeper on promotion letters. FTR will provide the following: • • • • • • •

Magazine Editor/Advertising Manager Bid Proposal This bid proposal is for the Independent Contractor position of Magazine Editor/Advertising Manager. The Contractor is responsible for providing support services for FTR as specified in the contract. The services provided by the Contractor shall be performed for the exclusive benefit of FTR. Responsibilities and duties include: 1. Provide formatting and layout of the FTR magazine, in a format and fashion acceptable to a commercial printer without intervention or charges for formatting and layout by such commercial printer/publisher to print said publication and/or the webmaster for online publishing. 2. Provide camera ready copy to printer in sufficient time for printing and mailing of the magazine by the 1st of each month being published. 3. Meet with printer each month to go over upcoming magazine. 4. Provide typesetter with copy, check for obvious typos, and ensure the proper ads, race flyers, and articles for that issue are included. 5. Cooperate with the Business Manager, clubs, and committees for timely publication of required items, such as committee minutes, event flyers, election ballots, etc. 6. Provide email reminders to those providing regular columns or pictures to the magazine of upcoming submission deadlines. 7. Review race schedule on a regular basis and provide email reminders to clubs about deadlines for submitting flyers for their events. 8. Work with clubs on updating and/or modifying flyers for upcoming events. 9. Work with Banquet Committee on advertising for the Annual Awards Banquet. 10. Maintain correct contact information in the magazine. 11. Work with advertisers adding, correcting, and changing or canceling ads. Solicit advertising from appropriate businesses and individuals. 12. Marketing the events of FTR to potential clients 13. Creating pricing strategies and deals for advertisers 14. Forming sales contacts and negotiating with clients 15. Provide the Business Manager with a monthly report for ads in each issue. 16. Creating and managing ad contracts, in-bound and outbound advertising correspondence 17. Creating, editing and updating custom ads built in InDesign paid for by the client 18. Managing client relationships and sending follow-up notices/renewals 19. Working with business manager to collect invoices; tracking down contracts 20. Supporting advertising partnerships; creating, editing and updating house ads in InDesign 21. Communicating with clients to assure that ads and editorial content is executed according to contract 22. Soliciting new advertisers; calling upon traditional motorcycle shops, retail shops, dealers, clubs, online vendors and additional special markets 23. Inspect layouts and advertising copy and other promotional material for adherence to specifications prior to publication 24. Coordinating publicity and promotion of online advertising; graphic design of online ads 25. Establishing promotional plans for special events; concept and design of promotional programs with editor 26. Developing sales content, managing copywriting and production of advertisements 27. Pushing content to social media, maintain and grow organizations presence on sites: Facebook, Twitter; enhancing interaction with the community 28. Develop organizations presence on Google+ and maintaining FTR blog 29. Responsible for shipping magazines to new members, back issues, storage issues 30. Research other organizations in the industry to find new ways in which to promote the organizations brand 31. Representing FTR Magazine at events 32. Placing and monitoring pay-per-click advertising 33. Preparing monthly Google Analytics report reflecting statistics of website reviews and site performance, including identify trends, audience profiles

Business Manager Bid Proposal This bid proposal is for the Independent Contractor position of Business Manager. The Contractor is responsible for providing business management and support services for FTR as specified in the contract. The services provided by the Contractor shall be performed for the exclusive benefit of FTR. The Contractor’s official contact with FTR will be the FTR Executive Committee, with the FTR President as the primary point of contact. Responsibilities and duties include: 1. All accounting duties will be performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Accounting records shall be maintained using Quickbooks Online software in accordance with GAAP. 2. Perform all purchases and disbursements as directed by the FTR Executive Committee or FTR Treasurer, or directed and approved by the FTR President. 3. Deposit and record all monies (including, but not limited to, paypal and credit card payments) received by FTR. Invoice all charges and fees imposed by FTR and all sales by FTR. 4. Record and maintain accounting records of all financial transactions entered into by FTR. 5. Maintain a current list of accounts receivable and utilize reasonable efforts to promptly collect all receivables. 6. Provide monthly reports and any additional reports and/or analysis to the Executive Committee as requested. 7. Assist the Executive Committee in preparation of the annual budget. 8. Insure that the IRS Form 990 is completed each year, signed and submitted to the IRS by the deadline. 9. File the annual Florida Corporation Report. 10. File all applicable sales tax quarterly. 11. Administer Membership Records – Process new and renewal memberships. Send out membership packets including the membership cards. Provide the sponsors of all FTR sanctioned events with a current membership list and supplies with which to sign-up new members and any pertinent insurance information as directed by insurance provider. 12. Coordinate with the FTR Executive Committee, the FTR Magazine Editor and other FTR Committees to publicize and market the FTR, its programs, and services to appropriate audiences. Work with other organizations, as appropriate, to establish partnerships that benefit the FTR and its members. Complete sponsorship applications and assist in providing necessary scores for sponsors. 13. General Administrative Tasks – Provide phone support for membership questions and complaints. Update rulebook for all rule and constitutional changes properly approved by the applicable Committee, Board, or General Membership. Publish updated rulebook annually or as directed by the Executive Committee. Maintain records of all correspondence. Check post office box on a regular basis, preferably daily, but not less than twice a week. Arrange for insurance for all sanctioned competition events for which the promoter/club elects to use FTR insurance. Ascertain that all sanctioned events have adequate insurance as specified in the rulebook, with FTR listed as an additional insured, in sufficient time to cancel sanction should proof of insurance not be provided. Maintain adequate supplies of FTR stickers, laminating cards, letterhead, envelopes, FTR arrows and scorecards. Keep the information on the FTR web site up-to-date. 14. For FTR events utilizing the FTR AMA Charter, arrange for insurance and provide the necessary forms for the event. Following the event, ensure that the AMA memberships, Referee report, Injury reports, and all releases are sent in within the timelines established by the AMA. Ensure the scores are sent to AMA from the Electronic Scorekeeper within the AMA timeline. 15. Event invoices and any reimbursements will be reconciled and sent to clubs within two weeks of their event by both email and the U.S.Postal Service. 16. Support the Banquet Committee and other volunteers, as needed. This can include assisting in determining a site for the Banquet, negotiating the contract, ordering trophies and awards, and printing the program. 17. Provide suitable office space to conduct the above services (home office is acceptable). 18. Assist with any duties that are within the scope of any positions of the Executive Committee members per the FTR rulebook as requested by the Executive Committee. 19. Attend all Board of Directors meetings unless directed otherwise by the Executive Committee or President. FTR will provide the following: • Postage meter and postage Wireless • 2 Credit card machines • Computer • External Hard Drive for backup • Laser printer and copier • QuickBooks Online for maintaining general fund accounting • Current version of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat or any software program needed to perform the office duties per EC approval.
