Forward Thinking for a Brighter Tomorrow
2013 ANNUAL REPORT
FSAE FOUNDATION
Mission: To support education, research, professional development, publications, and public relations efforts for the association management professional.
Greetings Sir Winston Churchill’s statement, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” are appropriate words to introduce the 2013 Annual Report for our Florida Society of Association Executives (FSAE) Foundation. Why an annual report? Simple. It’s to recognize and thank our contributors and patrons for their generosity, provide a summary of the Foundation’s accomplishments and encourage all executive and associate members to make supporting our FSAE Foundation an annual practice. The FSAE Foundation was created in 1984 to support research, professional development, publications and public relations efforts for association management professionals. The FSAE Foundation is much more personal than its mission statement. The Foundation provides a way for individuals to make a difference. The FSAE Foundation allows association professionals to give back to their profession, support the development of the next generation of association leaders and ensure the continual improvement of the association management profession. These accomplishments are possible because individuals involved with FSAE are willing to donate freely of their time, talents and treasures, year after year. The FSAE Foundation, including its donors, patrons, staff and volunteers have much to be proud of. The FSAE Foundation also has much to be optimistic about. With your ongoing support, the FSAE Foundation will continue to be a force for and a leader in the association profession by developing innovative educational programming and providing grants and scholarships to support cutting-edge research and professional development. Please enjoy the FSAE Foundation Annual Report and give generously to support the advancement of your profession.
Sincerely,
Jim Ayotte, CAE 2013-14 Foundation Chair Executive Director, Florida Manufactured Housing Association, Inc.

Think Tank 2013 Think Tank Topic: The Membership Nexus: Positioning Your Association in the Face of Declining Revenue Streams Facilitator: Bill Pawlucy, CAE Association Options, LLC What is Think Tank? The Foundation hosts an annual Think Tank to contribute to the association management knowledge base. The meeting gathers a small group of association decision makers to contemplate an issue, concern, topic, or idea concerning the operation of associations and/or the association management profession. The group, with the assistance of our informed facilitator, draws conclusions and drafts a report to contribute to the association community. White Papers since 1999 are available to download on the FSAE website:
www.fsae.org/ThinkTank
“I would not have missed this Think Tank for anything in the world! I have gotten so much that I am taking back to my association that’s going to help us be more effective, more efficient and provide an even better level of service to our members than we do now. This is more than worth 10, 20 times the price of our membership dues to FSAE.” Deborah Boza-Valledor, CIPS,CRB COO & Chief Marketing Officer Miami Assn of REALTORS

The Membership Nexus:
Positioning Your Association in the Face of Declining Revenue Streams 2013 FSAE Foundation Think Tank This September in St. Pete Beach, 22 association executives committed over one and a half days to the FSAE Foundation’s Think Tank. The goals were to engage in dialogue on the important topic of enhancing the value proposition of associations and to develop actionable and deeply thought out ideas to assist FSAE members to position their associations to grow and prosper in the face of declining revenue streams. The Think Tank was intended to be the start of an ongoing discussion to explore how associations can:
Think Tank Host Sponsor: Sirata Beach Resort & Conference Center
St. Pete Beach, FL
•
Improve non-dues revenue streams
•
Serve a dynamic membership demographic, and
•
Keep our associations vibrant while exploring new possibilities
This White Paper is written so that even if you were not present at the Think Tank, you can still understand what the group discussed and accomplished. The White Paper is intended to summarize discussions, convey ideas, provoke thought and hopefully spur action. Written by Think Tank Facilitator Bill Pawlucy, CAE, MPA, MBNQA Association Options

Funding Professional Development “I was absolutely thrilled to receive the FSAE scholarship. My goal is to sit for the Certified Association Executive (CAE) exam and learn the methods and ideas from some of the most knowledgeable in our profession. The scholarship assisted in paying for the CAE exam application and an intense and focused study session. My sincere thank you to FSAE for this opportunity! The two scholarships, available to any of FSAE members, will be awarded to students attending Institute for the first time to assist with enrollment fees and cannot be combined with any other Institute scholarships.
“Without a scholarship from FSAE to attend the Annual Convention, I would have missed out on a wonderful educational event. The General Sessions were spot-on with today’s needed topics for association executives and associates. The breakouts were equally as informative and gave me a wealth of new or updated tools in our arsenal to share with our staff. As a CAE, staying on top of the cutting edge of association principles is vital. And, the renewal points are essential too! Thank you to FSAE and scholarship sponsors for your dedication to education opportunities that will keep Florida as the best association state in the country.” Elaine C. Mann Carpenter, CAE | Vice President, Operations Florida Retail Federation
“I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship for the FSAE Annual Meeting in Tampa this summer. As a supplier involved in a new venture, I would not have been able to attend this event without it. The FSAE event was excellent! It offered me the ability to network with the association members, there were great speakers, and a very fun wine toss. More importantly, I met someone I did not know at the time, but who is now one of my largest clients! I met so many great people at this event, and I learned a good bit more about working with Associations. Thank you FSAE for the assist! Felice Levy | Director of Sales ITM Mobile
