FACE BEHIND THE MIC
FLYERPROMONOW presents
BY KNOWA LOGIC "THE INTERVIEWER"
DJ Scream DJ SCREAM, WOULD I BE CORRECT BY SAYING YOU’RE AN ATLANTA NATIVE, RIGHT? YEP, DECATUR, GA. A-TOWN, RIGHT OUTSIDE, BUT CONNECTED TO THE CITY. WHAT DJS WERE OUT DOING THEIR THING WHEN YOU GOT STARTED HERE? AH, I GROW UP ON DJ JELLY, NABS, EDWARD J, JAY SKI. MAN, IT WAS MANY TALENTED ONES THEN THAT REALLY INSPIRED THE YOUTH HERE. ALL OF THEM DIDN’T NECESSARILY MAKE IT MAINSTREAM, BUT THEY WERE TALENTED AND HELPED SOME TO MAKE IT THERE. DO YOU FEEL THE GROWTH OF THE MIX TAPE INDUSTRY HAS HURT RECORD SALES MAYBE MORE THAN IT HAS HELPED? NO, I THINK YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE AND WHAT THEY ’RE ASKING FOR. IT’S COOL TO PUT AN R&B SINGER ON THE HOOK OR MAKE A COMMERCIAL SOUNDING TRACK EVERY NOW AND THEN, BUT I THINK THE PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR WHAT THESE ARTIST REALLY HAVE TO SAY UNCUT A LOT OF TIMES. THEY WANT TO HEAR THEIR REAL LIFE STORIES. EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE TRYING TO MAKE THESE BIG RECORDS LIKE GUCCI, OUTKAST OR 50 CENT, BUT DON’T UNDERSTAND YOU CAN’T STRATEGIZE MAKING MUSIC. THESE ARTISTS WERE DOING IT NATURAL, NOT STRATEGIZING. DO IT BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT THEN YOU CAN’T GO WRONG. IF I COULDN’T GET ANOTHER GIG AS A DJ TOMORROW, I WOULD STILL BE DOING WHAT I LOVE. I DIDN’T COME IN THE GAME TO MAKE MONEY. I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET KNOWN FOR DOING MIX TAPES. AS A DJ AND BUSINESS MAN, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH? WELL I FEEL I HAVE ACCOMPLISH THAT. I’M PURELY A STREET DJ THAT CAME FROM JUST PROMOTING MIX TAPES TO HELPING ARTISTS GET BUDGETS FROM MY MIX TAPE. TO WORLDWIDE TOURS, WORLDWIDE AND LOCAL RADIO, AND I’M A PARTNER IN A MARKETING AND MANAGEMENT COMPANY. MY VISION HAS EVOLVED. BUT I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT I’M NOT JUST A MIX TAPE DJ. UNTIL PEOPLE SEE ME ROCK A CLUB THEY TEND TO THINK I’M LIMITED. I USED TO DO COMPETITIONS AND ALL THAT. WHERE CAN THE READERS GET AT YOU TO SEE WHERE YOU’RE SPINNING OR WHAT NEW CD YOU’RE DROPPING? THEY CAN CHECK ME OUT TWITER.COM/DJSCREAM, DJSCREAMTV.COM OR JUST GOOGLE ME; THERE’S ALWAYS SOMETHING GOING ON.

BY KNOWA LOGIC "THE INTERVIEWER"
M
of MONOPOLY WYLEKATZ
onopoly Wylekatz is a Paducah, Kentucky based rap group founded in 2004. Its’ youngest member, Juice, is gearing up to take it to the next level with his highly anticipated solo project. The group has been featured in various magazines and recently was awarded the title of Kentucky’s #1 Hip Hip Group by KYMP KAMP, winner of the SOURCE Hip Hop Tour (NYC), and the winner of Tha Hood 2 Hood Tour with Bad Boy/Block Entertainment. Some have even compared them to the first Cash Money/Hot Boyz. I got a chance to sit down with Juice, to hear first hand his mission and intentions with the recent solo project. WHAT’S HAPPENING JUICE? What it is! What it is! HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN ARTIST ON THE GRIND? Well I’ve been out here for about six years. We’ve done shows with Jeezy, Ross, Wayne, and many more. So you see we been making solid moves independently in the game, but now I feel like it’s time for me to take it national. WHAT MOVES HAVE YOU BEEN MAKING TO JUMP OFF YOUR SOLO CAREER? Previously I dropped my last mix tape four months ago called Paid in Full, hosted by DJ MLK from Grand Hustle. We sold a lot of units locally, in the streets. Now I’m releasing my second solo mix tape called The Stimulus Package in March, hosted by Don Cannon. SO WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT ARE YOU RECEIVING FROM THE KENTUCKY COMMUNITY? Ah man, I’m receiving a lot of support from the people all over Kentucky. The DJs are reaching out from here and other needed markets. They are showing me hell of love so that’s why I’m going to make it worth it for the whole region. MAKE SURE YA’LL LOOK OUT FOR THE STIMULUS PACKAGE, HOSTED BY DON CANNON, DROPPING MARCH 13, 2010, AND LOOK OUT FOR JUICE OF MONOPOLY COMING THRU A CITY NEAR YOU. That’s right! Check me on myspace.com/050288rtemrjuice, on Face book and Youtube.com. Just search for Juice of Monopoly. I got like five new videos up that I just dropped. And shouts out to Cannon, Nashville, the whole KY, and any artist out here doing their thing, man!

CHECK OUT SOME OF THE HOTTEST UP-AND-COMING ARTISTS IN ATL Featured Artist: Momio
What's Up, FPN Readers? This ya'll girl Mokah Dimes and this month's featured artist is "Momio." It’s not often you hear a female MC who can keep the club jumping. Well, Momio is that female and one of ATL hardest working in the field. She is focused and dedicated to her craft. Within the next few years, Momio plans on becoming a household name, a top notch radio personality and nothing will deter her from succeeding. Momio let our readers know who you are. Well, the city looks at me like a female in a guy’s arena. I started as a hip-hop artist and I got my first record deal when I was 21yrs. old. The deal was with Teddy Riley’s label LOR Records but things didn't workout. Then I decided to get out of the recording aspect of the Hip Hop game, but I wanted to stay close to the music. So eventually, I moved to Atlanta and became Momio the MC. Where are you originally from and how long have you been in ATL? I am originally from Connecticut but prior to moving to Atlanta I lived in Virginia Beach. I've been here for about 5yrs now. Ok, what's the biggest difference between Virginia and Atlanta and how long did it take before you started seeing results here? The biggest difference that I see is that people in ATL have a real love for the music industry. They have love for people on their grind and even the men show respect for females on their grind. Before moving here, I was working as a host at The Virginia House of Comedy, which was one of the biggest comedy clubs in Virginia. And there I was doing things for people like Cedric "The Entertainer," Ricky Smiley, Bruce Bruce and so fourth. I chose venues that would make a difference in my life. So you see, I came to Georgia with a five-year plan and I got on my grind. This plan included building a fan-base, going to broadcasting school, and getting on the radio. I noticed that no one likes to give the new fish in the pond the worm, ya feel me. You got to like swim, swim, and swim until you catch the worm. So what I did was go from club to club and the 7th club, which was "20 Grand”, gave me an opportunity. Within the first 2 months, I got my first gig. I told the owner, if he gave me a chance to MC at his club and like what I do, I would MC for him however long he wanted me to be there. On the first night, I was so nervous because I was from up North, I didn't know how the people where going to receive me. s

I just started learning how to "lean wit it, rock wit it" LOL, but people in the South really showed me love. I loved that Southern Hospitality. I am not the kind of MC that stays behind the both, I come out and party with the people. I show the men and the women, love. I worked for the first two weeks for FREE and by the second weekend the owner actually came to me and told me I deserved to be paid, it was on from there. I wanted something different, I wanted something big, and people kept telling me to try Atlanta. Someone else saw something much bigger for me in Georgia, so one year I got my income tax check, packed up everything, and moved to Atlanta. I didn't know any one here but I am happy I made that decision. What defining moment made you realize that this was your niche? I can honestly say, I figured out my niche was over the microphone when I was about 25 years and I was in New York City. I was doing an Old School Hip Hop show with Beanie and I believe Grand Master Flash. I was the only female performer in this venue and because I knew the promoters that put on the show, they let me host and perform. Now considering that I was in New York City "the place where people can be your biggest critics," I was so nervous that before going out on stage I got on my knees in the bathroom and prayed for guidance and courage. And when I say your girl rocked it, I got the loudest cheer over everyone there. That was the moment when I really realized that people loved hearing my voice over the microphone. Where do you see yourself 3 yrs. from now? I want to become the biggest name radio ever heard, bigger than Tom Joyner but sometimes it's like being in a long dark hallway. I can see the light from the cracks around the door at the end of the hallway and I am working my way towards it. Eventually I will knock on the door and they have to let me in! So where can people find you? You can catch me at different clubs through out the week but check me out at Club Ritz on Saturday. I host talent shows and various events and I am telling you, If I can't do nothing else, I can make a party jump from here to hallelujah.

O K C O R TALK OF ATLANTA By Knowa Logic "The Interviewer"
Atlanta-based rapper Rocko is at it again! Proving to the world that not only is he a dedicated family man, which we all witnessed on "Still Standing", the reality show highlighting his family life with his wife R&B super star Monica, but also as a serious artist and businessman. Rocko started as a producer/ghostwriter who received notable success from working with Hitman Sammy Sam. In 2002, he established Rocky Road Productions where he had a hand in producing and developing songs for artists such as Young Dro, Dem Franchize Boyz, Lil Flip and Pastor Troy early in their careers. In 2008 Rocko released his debut, “Self-Made,” under his indie label Rocky Road Records featuring the Top 10 rap hit "Umma Do Me." Currently, he's finishing up his second full-length album, “One Of One” which is scheduled for a June release.

Rocko what’s up man? What’s good? What’s going on? Well, Rocko I think we should clear the air and let my readers know how long you've been out here building your career. What attracted you to pursuing a career in music? Well, I’m like 10yrs. strong in the music business right now. Hanging out at a studio my cousin owned is what made me want to get into the industry. I saw how they were doing it and I fell in love with it from there. My cousin and I started a label at first but one thing led to another and I ended up opening my own called Rocky Road Records. I know you use to ghost write in the past how did that situation come about? Mainly just by being in the studio meeting rappers coming in and out. The opportunity presented itself. As usual the streets are waiting and anticipating the release of your sophomore album. Who are some of the artist or producers featuring on this project and what is it titled? Well, my new album is titled, “One Of One” and it’s scheduled for a June release. I worked with Drumma Boy, Zaytoven, Fat Boy, Cool & Dre, Big Kirk, Lil Neal, Insane Wayne and a few more. Will there be any features from any artist? Man, I’m already a star. What I need a feature for? I got a few R&B features but that’s about it. I’m still working on the album at this point and I’m looking forward to collaborating with Kanye. We’re supposing to link up but I don’t do too many rap features on my album because it’s for my fans. On my mix tapes you may find a couple but I’m selfish about my albums. Do you have a favorite song off the album yet? There are a few up in the air. I think right now I have to say “I can’t help it” is my favorite. Are you currently sign to a major or will you be releasing this album independently? Right now, I’m currently signed to Rocky Road/ Island Def Jam. So apparently, as we have witness on "Still Standing," there are a lot of politics when negotiating with the majors. Were you able to keep creative control? Oh yea, I got creative control over my project. That was one of the key negotiations. I heard thru the grapevine, that you're entering the world of film now and has started a company called Rocky Road Films. Is it true that there is a 35millimeter film in the works? We really have been just working to get everything structured but we’re getting ready to start shooting soon for my movie “Rock Bottom.” I can’t say too much about it right now but it will have a lot of star power with cameos from my rap homies and some key actors. Rocko thank you for answering my questions and inviting me out to the studio. Let everyone reading this article know where they can check up on you online and what they could do to support the movement? Yea, they can look out for my new mix tape “Wild Life” which is in the streets now. I dropped a couple of videos with it too. I’m on myspace.com/rockodadon on twitter @rocko4real but at the end of the day I want everybody that’s been sleeping on me to know that I’m coming.

LIL' ON BANK HEAD TOP OF THE GAME A
t a young age, Lil Bankhead is well on his way to becoming one of the city’s legendary on air personality. He has diligently pursued his dream thru both education and an undying will to succeed. While at “The People's Station” V-103, I had a chance to kick it with my man Lil Bankhead.
Lil Bankhead, I see that you're a busy man but I'm glad we caught up with you. So how are you doing brother? What’s up world! It's your boy Lil Bankhead in the building with my homie. We doing it real big right now live and direct Zone 1 all day. Now in the streets, you're named after the well-known Bankhead in Zone 1. And hit makers like T.I., Shawty Lo, and D4L have popularized this street by repping it in their songs. Do you know why they change the name of Bankhead to Donald Lee Hollowell? Well, I know that Donald Lee was a noted black man from our community. At first, there was a rumor that the name was changing because of the crime in the area but after doing some research, I learned from an elder that it was a part of an effort to honor leaders from our communities. If my understanding is correct, you entered the industry as a street promoter for So So Def, right? How did you get into radio from there?

Yea, they show me much love! I look at them as people I respect and can learn from. So they kind of just take me under their wings. What do you think about the current state of the ATL music scene? What I would like to see is the artist put out more material. Do you remember when Master P and NO Limit were doing their thing? You had music dropping from P, Mystikal, Silk, and you couldn't wait to hear it. Now an artist may release a record and there’s no real promotion so you might not even know it’s available. More music more promotion for me would be good. Who do you feel is the most under rated artist in the city? Imma say Cyhi the Prynce, Greg Street's artist is pretty hot right now. Streets say he the next 2 PAC and I agree. Big Kuntry, J Money, Yung LA and a lot of cats man. Lil Bankhead is there anything you would like to say in closing? Yea, I want to say if you're going to do music study your craft. To the youth I want to say stay positive and listen to your parents because they’ve been there and know what they're talking about.
Well you're right, I linked up with So So Def thru a guy named Twin. I was 17 sneaking out of my mom’s house to hit Club 112 to pass out flyers. I stayed cool with the company so that lead to other opportunities. The story about how I got into radio is like this. I was working at the Atlanta Car Wash and one day when I was on break DJ WILL from Hot 107.9 came thru to get his car cleaned. He asked me how were things going and I told him that I was tired of this job. Then he invited me to the radio station where he had the mix show and was Lil Jon's official DJ. I was like cool cause I wanted to make another move to put more money in my pockets. To make a long story short, DJ Will got me on interning for the station and after 6 months I had the skills to move on. Then at the same car wash I met Reggie Gay, a Gospel DJ from KISS 104.1 who also invited me to the station where I interned for a year before I was let go because I wasn't in school. The day after they let me go I enrolled in AIU to get my education on so I could get past that wall. After I graduating, landing an internship at V-103 was my goal. So since I qualified I applied and was hired after 2-3 months. Now today you're making noise as one of the youngest on air personality in the game. How does it feel and do the more mature DJs show you love?
You can reach me by searching on Twitter and myspace or my email is ronron3000@gmail.com. I'm on Saturday morning from 2am- 6am and sometimes substituting for Greg Street. atlanta

THE DRAMA-FREE ZONE # Atl 3 With A’ndrea J. Wilson
anta, you have just entered the Drama-Free Zone–NO HATERS ALLOWED! Check in with me monthly, here at Flyer Promo Now Atlanta, to get my top five countdown of the most positive and inspiring current entertainment and lifestyle trends. Here at the Drama-Free Zone, we check the negative press at the door and give props to those deserving of it.
The first few months of the year is always cluttered with a bunch of televised award shows. These events were created with the intentions of honoring those who have contributed to the entertainment industry in a significant way. The problem with these shows is that often it becomes a popularity contest, awarding those who are deemed as acceptable candidates, and overlooking the “real” talent. There are many amazing entertainers who have skills and abilities that exceed the few that always get picked, and in my opinion, it’s a crying shame! So, in this issue of Flyer Promo Now, we’re counting down my top five most underrecognized celebrities. Let’s start the countdown…

#
Jill Scott. Okay, yes, Jill has won three Grammys. But come on! Three? Really? When artists like Beyonce win like eight every year, Jill has won three – total. That’s messed up! Not only is Jill Scott a ridiculously, mind-blowing lyricist with a voice to die for, but have you seen the woman act? As much as I was excited about the premiere of The #1 Ladies Detective Agency on HBO, I wasn’t sure if she could pull off transforming herself into a Botswana native. To my surprised, she killed it! Now when I see her, I don’t know whether to call her Jill or Precious Ramotswe. And let’s not forget how she made us believe that she was an insecure housewife in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? when her musical concerts prove that she is a certified DIVA! Whew! Ms. Scott, today we salute you.

Don Cheadle. Don Cheadle has so many different faces that I am not sure who he is in real life. There is Don as Sylvester in the movie Rosewood, a man who has to fight for the lives of his community amidst racism and injustice. There is Don as Maurice in the movie Out of Sight, a criminal and wannabe boxer who attempts to be the mastermind behind a diamond focused home invasion. There is Don as Basher Tarr in Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen. And finally there is Don as Petey Greene in the movie Talk to Me, a loud-talking felon turned radio disc jockey and comedian. Don Cheadle has played over sixty characters on TV and film and has produced six shows/films. He has been nominated for forty-four awards, only winning eighteen. In 2005, he was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Hotel Rwanda, but of course, he was shut out. Even of they don’t appreciate you, Don, we still love you!

Mos Def. Mos Def is most definitely a star! Few Hip Hop artists can rhyme with the poetic soul that Mos Def brings; but he doesn’t stop there! Just when we were ready to put him in a box and label him as “just a rapper,” he hit us upside the head with acting abilities that supersede many hyped-up actors. Who knew? To date, Mos Def has been casted in thirty-seven roles on TV and in film. A few of the most memorable are as Vivan Thomas in Something the Lord Made, Ryrus Cooper in Monster’s Ball, the voice of Gangstalicious on The Boondocks, and performing in various skits on Chappelle’s Show. He has been nominated for fourteen acting awards including an Emmy and a Golden Globe, but has only won two Black Reels. Nevertheless, no matter how you want to feel, Mos Def has the talent to make you laugh, cry, scream, or just bob your head!

Regina King. In my opinion, Ms. King is the most under-appreciated actress in the industry. First of all, she has been out forever. I remember growing up watching her play Brenda Jenkins on 227. Since then Regina has played 35 other characters on TV and in film. Her resume includes roles in Boyz ‘n the Hood, Enemy of the State, Friday, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Friday, Jerry Maguire, Poetic Justice, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Miss Congeniality 2…Do I really need to go on? Most interestingly, she is the voice for both Huey and Riley Freeman on the adult cartoon The Boondocks. Anyone who can be the voice of two different characters on the same cartoon, sound different enough to fool the audience, and convince the public that these are actually the voices of little boys, deserves more recognition than ten nominations and three measly awards. Alright now awards committees; stop hating and give the woman some credit!

…You! Okay, so maybe you’re not a celebrity just yet. But if you are out there making things happen in your home, community, or nation, you deserve recognition too! We all know that everyone will not experience the level of success that they are due, but if you are a positive person trying to live out your dreams then give your own self a pat on the back. Let’s redefine the word success. True success is being authentic and using your Godgiven gifts to make the world a better place. I don’t know about you, but I am a star even if I never win a coveted award; I hope you all feel the same! Believe in yourself and life’s true rewards will always come your way!
And
Until the next time, keep it positive! A’ndrea A’ndrea J. Wilson, PhD is a founding partner of Writing Professionals International and the author of “The Things We Said We Would Never Do” and “My Business His Way.” For more information about A’ndrea, visit andreawilsononline.com

DJ Miami Myztro As a college student, I could remember feeling liberated as I listened to my campus DJ spinning on the ones and twos. Freedom of speech, uncharted music, and real talk are just a few things I loved about college radio. My peers could call into the station and vent about campus issues or had the power to help break new music. Well, in 2010, DJ Miami Myztro is giving college students that authority every time they tune into WSTU 98.1 FM. DJ Miami Myztro is one of the most in demand college radio DJ’s as well as a fixture in the campus and nightlife scene in ATL. Not to mention, his radio show, "The Indie 500," has been rated the number one college mix show for the last two years broadcasting live from Clark Atlanta University. His schedule has him traveling all over the world to play special engagements in clubs, private parties, and corporate events. DJ Miami Myztro has evolved into a prominent music producer as well. This remarkably skilled twenty-fiveyear-old leaves many listeners astonished as they become hooked by the powerful sounds coming from his production catalog. His beats will shock you like loud bolts of energy automatically infecting those listening, invoking a desire to turn up the volume to feel the pulse of Myztro’s music. Miami Myztro has rapidly worked his way up the ranks and is now one of Atlanta's premier DJ's/Record Breakers; his name is synonymous with what’s happening in both urban music and Hip-Hop/Rap culture today. Some key highlights of Miami Myztro’s career have been working with producers and artist such as Rick Ross, Pitt Bull, Piccallo, B. Cox, and DJ Aaries, Cool & Dre, J-Shin, Rome, 45(CTE) and many more. As Miami Myztro begins to emerge more and more into the public eye, he is a "Hitmaker" current and upcoming artists will definitely want on the production credits of their next project. But don’t take may advice; listen for yourself. Make sure to tune in to WSTU 98.1 FM every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday to hear DJ Miami Myztro bless the airwaves of college radio.
