FLYERPROMONOW presents

Throughout his career, DJ Slym a.k.a. Mr. Street Buzz has ventured into every facet of the DJ game, and has always emerged as a winner. With a love for hip-hop, R&B and Haitian music, Slym discovered his passion for the world of party starting early in life. Raised in Palm Beach County and residing in Orlando, Slym was exposed to the styles of Florida legends like Uncle Al, Slic Vic and the Jam Pony Express DJs. At 12 years old, Slym was briefly part of a rap group until he went solo. After linking up with Dem Damn Doggs – a prominent promotions group in South Florida – Slym released a Creole version of “Peanut Butter and Jelly” that rapidly spread through the state. Shortly after gaining local notoriety, he decided to expand his MC skills into the realm of DJing. It didn’t take long for him to land a position on underground radio. He says, “There was a station in Delray Beach that I used to listen to and every day I would call and bug the heck out of ‘em to let me DJ. Amazing B from the station kept telling me no, no, no. Finally, he broke down and said yeah. He invited me to the station and it was on from there.” Since then, Slym has been added to the roster at 93.5 Clientell Radio & 91.9 Clientell East Radio in Orlando. He can also be heard on 91.9 Bass Jam Radio in Palm Beach County. In addition to hyping up listeners via radio, DJ Slym is a master at getting a club crunk. “I’m a crowd DJ,” he explains, “I like to move a crowd and talk to ‘em. It’s about playing the right song and everybody goes crazy. At the end of the night when people come up and tell me I rocked it, it lets me know I’m doing my thing.” His crowd consists of a loyal Haitian following that respects him for representing their important heritage. DJ Slym's most recent projects include his Street Buzz Mixtape series and spot as the official DJ on Young Jeezy's Recession Tour. He is currently working with FlyerPromoNow and building his Street Buzz Enterprise. When asked what he enjoys most about his job, he simple states, “I do it for the love of music.” CONTACT INFO: 561-542-8444 • djslym360@gmail.com • twitter.com/djslym

FLYERPROMONOW presents

P

arty People! Party People! I get so excited when October comes around. I look forward to the cooler nights out on the town, and the colder mornings with the hangovers! LOL. But here we are in the middle of October, with temperatures averaging 90˚F! Where they do that at? I thought we said goodbye to summer! Good ole' Orlando, I guess. But, us partyers can’t be choosers. We just accommodate, and still rock those mini-skirts & short sleeve button downs. One thing that surely does change with the oncoming of the fall months are the themes of the parties. October kicks off promoters imaginations with their upcoming Halloween parties. I don’t know about you, but I am already trying to figure out what I am going to dress up as for everyone’s event. Now you know a girl’s gotta have choices! Speaking of choices, here is a couple for you to check out…yes, we stay in the streets!

Nocturnal Mondays @ Tessa Wine & Cigar Bar I was asked to meet a friend out at Tessa on a Monday evening and was expecting a quiet, laid-back atmosphere. What I walked into was a vibrant little party going on. I have always liked this venue for its layout and “intimate” settings. However, on Mondays, Nocturnal Jungle, an upcoming promotional company & social website creator, hosts this intimate, yet rockin’ party! I was greeted by a pretty hostess who not only kindly offered me a drink ticket redeemable for a cocktail, but she also informed me that if I had brought 3 other girlfriends, I would receive a free bottle of champagne! Where they do that at? Talk about service with a smile! The music was perfect, but I knew it would be once I heard that DJ PointBlanc was the man of the hour. I truly enjoyed myself at this party. The venue was surely full, but in a comfortable manner. My friends and I parked ourselves on one of their overstuffed leather couches, with our Hookah’s lit and our cocktails flowing. I strongly suggest this party if you are looking for something to do, without all the extra frills. Good music, good drinks, good hookahs, beautiful venue.

Studio 54 Orlando @ Kafe Kalik They did it again, ladies & gentlemen. These ladies have found that niche of people who can truly enjoy & appreciate a fashionable experience. This event has everyone stepping out their closets! PAUSE! By that I mean, they are actually going out and making the effort in dressing up to attend a chic event. These guests weren’t

LEGEND KEY dressed up like prom, or even like the “Boss Affair”, but rather more PARTY FAVORS stylish, more fashionable, more RED LATE NIGHT GRUBBING CARPET ready. Studio 54 Orlando ON POINT SERVICE featured a trunk show by Ego Lab, which is a hip boutique/salon located FLY HUNNIES downtown. They also showcased HANDSOME FELLAS some local fashion designers, & displayed magnificent visual designs FRESH SETTINGS by Dwayne Moore of Beyond drink specials Human Photography. I really pride DOOR HOOK UPS these three ladies in finding a way DOPE SOUNDS to bring about a DIFFERENT type of vibe in the event life. You surely have never seen anything like it. I was informed they plan on doing this event each season. Well, they appear to keep true to that brand; last season (summer) was held at Senso Supper Club, and this season (fall) was held at Kafe Kalik. Not sure if they are choosing venues to match the season, or their mood, but I am sure that this is going to become a whirlwind of a trend. So I say KUDOS ladies to an amazing concept & follow through. We can’t wait to see where you go to next! Oh, who are these ladies you ask? You may know them or may be able to recognize them by their accomplishments: Toni Ann, Porctia, & Brandi Nikole. This event was hosted by the “newest voice of 102JAMZ”, Shelly Flash. One thing that makes me happy is a well put together, successful event. One thing that makes me even happier…a full woman production! Gentlemen, watch out…these ladies are doing it for themselves! Bring in the fall! It’s a great time to be on the scene. Just think of all the new clothes to be bought! Boots, sweaters, scarves…all the sexy winter-like clothing. I expect great events to occur during this season. We came from one scorching summer and seen some upcoming promoters really making their mark out here in these streets. As I sit here and type this article to my fellow party seekers, I start to think about where did all the heavy hitting promoters go? Have they settled into their weekly events full of mundanity and repetition because they are afraid to try new things? They are just leaving this pool of opportunity available for upcoming promoters. It really doesn’t matter to me, 'cause I will continue to hit the streets and find you the best experience., no matter who the promoter may be. You have an event you want the streets to know about? Or maybe you wanted to air out your frustrations of being a promoter here in Orlando. Whatever the case may be, I am your street instrument…use me! Send me your flyers, requests, suggestions, or just send me a hello to starletinthestreets@gmail.com. Thinking about giving away an ULTIMATE VIP PACKAGE to my loyal readers… tell me what you think about that! Till then…LETS CELEBRATE! www.flyerpromonow.com

then you should know P.I. Bang. Raised in

the streets of Orlando, P.I. has been rapping for about eight years. For the past 3 years he's been taking his hustle seriously and now has a hit record, "Trap Keep Jumpin," produced by Zaytoven.

the bottom to the top where we all see them now have really shaped me as a person. These are the types of people who influence me.

How long have you been in the rap game? I've been rapping going on about eight years. I got real serious around 2005-2006 so roughly three years.

What message or persona are you trying to express with your new album? I'm not trying to glamorize the street life but basically it's a lesson that you can come from rags to riches. That you can be from down and out from going to jail to be a success story. I'm doing more than just rapping I'm also a businessman. My new album is also like a mix tape it is called “Money, Drugs and Jail hopefully it will drop by the end of this month or no later than the first week of November.

What are some of your major influences in and out of the industry? In the industry it's been such artists such as T.I., Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, and 50 Cent just to name a few. Those who worked from the ground up with a hustler mentality are the ones who I try to imitate. The artists who have built an establishment from grinding from

Where did the inspiration for your well known single "Trap Keep Jumpin" come from? It basically came from the street that's what's poppin in the industry these days. I just reached out to Zaytoven and the rest is basically history. The video is on youtube.com it has bout 30,000 hits and about 10,000 views on worldstarhiphop.com What is the name of your label? My label is called Fresh Off Da Block Entertainment. I’m the only artist on the label as of right now. How did your features come about? I got a couple of features on my album mainly Papa Duck. We have a song together called "Mind On My Money". He actually reached out to me when I was doing a show in Cleo's where he provided me with his cell phone number. We made contact he dropped a verse and sent it to back to me and that was how that song came about. What do you have in store for your fans in the future? The video is circulating now and a new single coming out which I have narrowed down to two. The first is "I Ain't The One" ft. Kevin Cossom and the second is "Mr. Break You Off". Are u planning a tour or some type of appearance to promote your CD? I started on the Haitian Fresh tour but it's on stand by right now. I'm about to do a southern region tour from Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and of course Florida to name a few all of the southern states will be included. I'm actually on tour now my next performance in Orlando will be classic weekend for the car show. Who has really helped you stay focused on your music and strive to be as successful as you can? My kids and family first and foremost. My two little boys influence me the most. It's like when you are from the streets and trying to get in the rap industry to support and provide for them is essential. To be quite frank it's costing me more money right now to do what I do rather than making a profit since I'm not mainstream as of yet.

Do you have any tips or can you offer some advice to up and coming local artists or teens who like to pursue the music industry as a career? Don't get discouraged basically coming from Orlando it's hard to get acknowledgement. Dj's really don't embrace unknown artist unless it's a hit record. You have to be hands on and in the community passing out your music and staying in contact with radio stations and Dj's. Most people say Orlando Dj's don't show support to the city but that's very untrue because my music is playing all through the city. The main thing is making a hit record and getting your name in the streets. How has the community/city embraced your music? Right now, the Orlando community is behind me every step of the way. I gotta give thanks to DJ Greg G and Disco Jr for being the first on the scene to embrace my record. DJ Prostyle from Power 95.3 and the clubs are showing much love right now. I've had over 200 people show up at my video shoot which shows the city really has my back and are really embracing my music. Do you have any other comments you will like to share with your fans and the readers? Check me out and follow what I'm doing with the music. I'm doing this for the City of Orlando, Orange County, and the whole Central Florida area. I'm doing this for us I'm not being selfish by trying to promote just me. We really don't have a voice right now so get behind me and support me in the game. I have a couple of labels interested in signing me so it might get real serious and big soon. I got the whole city on my back and I'm trying to get all of our voices heard. How can you be contacted outside of your shows? For shows and features I can be contacted at 407731-6271, that's my manager's number. You can call me directly at 407-733-2989. My twitter page is Twitter. com/PIBang and also on myspace at myspace.com/ PiBang. Also check out my video as I stated earlier at YouTube search PiBang-407 and worldstarhiphop.com.

Flyer Promo N ow & Talkof Orlando .com presents this week’s Talk of Orlando,

What is the main goal of The Firm? To merge creativity and experience and cater to those who are looking for something different in their nightlife events. With every strong team lies a motivated group of individuals. Who are the people that make up The Firm and what role does each person play? DJ Caesar - Hitmen Promotions, & 102jamz

handful that really stand out amongst the rest.

This group of humble and determined Orlando with the sexiest & most upscale events the city has ever seen. If you ever stood on the line outside of Tavern on the Lake at 9:00 pm on a Saturday night, then you know exactly what I mean. They bring something brand new and promoters has graced

This team is determined to make

your night at the club something to enjoy as well as something to remember!

What influence do you feel Myspace, Facebook & Twitter have had on promoting events in general? We believe the networking sites have allowed people to become or believe they are promoters without having the knowledge and experience of a true promoter. However, influentially speaking, they have become a great asset in the overall strategy of promotions with the current status of the economy.

When creating a new night at a club, what are some of the things you guys look for in a venue? Ambiance, location, and club management/staff. In your opinion, what makes an event successful? If you think about all of the components that go into something as simple as a party or as extravagant as a major event, a lot of times it comes down to the relationships you form with the people and having a solid team. You can have the best DJ's and the hottest venue, but at the end of the day, if you don’t get out in the street and network, it’s all for nothing. What separates The Firm from other promotion companies in the city? All the good ones strive to give people a good time and be successful doing it. We want to be the innovator. We want to try to take it a step further. We want to do something that hasn’t been done before, or something a little different. Sometimes it may be a big risk, but so far, those risks have paid off and we have made our mark on Central Florida’s nightlife Some promoters feel that flyer promotion is dead. Do you guys agree with that statement? Why? No, we feel that the use of flyers is still a valuable tool for marketing/promotions. People think that you can just throw a flyer together, but the flyer says a lot about your promotional company and the type of events you put together. People tend to think that the life of a promoter is all fun and games. How much of an impact has this line of work had on your personal life? Being a promoter requires a lot of SACRIFICE in your personal life. With that sacrifice comes LOYALTY and DEDICATION. Our personal life has become the foundation to our success through the support of our significant others. You will find this to be true among the greater promoters of Orlando.

If you think that you are the Talk of Orlando, you can submit your information to talkoforlando@gmail.com subject line “I am the Talk of Orlando”

t's official! American reality TV star Khloe Kardashian married Lamar Odom. She is reportedly against changing her last name; wonder why?!? Let's see how long this will last...Nick and Mariah Carey surprised me so maybe there's hope for these two. There isn't much news on this photo of actor Lance Gross except that it's mmmgood. Moving on! Tyra Banks seen on set of her latest photo shoot has something to celebrate about. MSNB reported that the Primetime TV host raked in $30 million with her Bankable Productions company.

After just attending the BET Hip Hop Awards, Soulja Boy, 19, ended up in jail days later. He was charged with obstruction after telling officers that the people gathered at an abandoned Georgia house were shooting a music video. Hopefully, things will blow over for the young artist.

A weekly Entertainment, Legal News & Advice column from Shannon A. Ligon, The Entertainment & Legal Diva And on to some much needed advice... Dear Shannon, Please help your boy out. I started dating this girl who is really nice and educated; but I've grown to realize she's just not for me. How do I tell her it's not going to work in a nice way? -Looking For a Nice Way Out Dear Nice Way Out: I'm glad to see your considering her feelings as well as your own. And I'm equally glad to see that you are being respectful. Breaking things off with people is hard to do; but as long as you can speak your mind positively and honestly, time will allow her to see the greater good for you both. There's no sense in prolonging the inevitable. Best of luck, Shannon

Gary Gary, what's good with you homie?

I'm doing good just trying to spread the word about what products we have available. How long have you been in business?

We officially opened the store in March 2009. Do you have any other stores in the Orlando area?

We don't have any other stores, but the franchise had other stores in a few local malls. Besides smoothies what other products are sold at your shop?

Salads, pitas, wraps, soups, shaved ice, fresh squeezed juice, and wheat grass. Do you have a special drink that is being advertised as of right now?

Yes, our Too Thick To Sip, which is any smoothie topped with honey granola and your choice of fruit. Where is your business located?

We are located at 3120 S. Kirkman Rd. at the corner of Kirkman Rd and Arnold Palmer Dr. How has your business been embraced by the community such as sales or popularity?

We have been getting positive feedback from our customers, who say our smoothies are better than the competition. UrbanSpoon had also rated us as top smoothie shop in Orlando, with a 92% popularity rate. How do you go about advertising your business whether it be media or paper?

We have two billboards located on Kirkman Rd., FlyerPromoNow, getting involved with local elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges, and word of mouth. How can you be contacted outside of the shop?

We can be contacted through our email at indigosmw@gmail.com. Do you have any other comments you would like to share with the readers?

Always try to support black owned businesses. When you see a black man or woman trying to make it, show some love!

I

did quite a bit of traveling this last week. During my little excursion I was able to catch the Magic vs Dallas preseason game in Dallas. The Magic won by 5, final score 110-105. I have to admit, though, I didn’t watch much of the fourth quarter because the Jack Daniels bar at American Airlines Center was calling me. I did manage to get some stats, Vince Carter had a good preseason opener scoring 15 points in the third quarter. Dru Gooden, a former Magic player, also had a good debut with his new team scoring 18 points. Rashard Lewis, who can play in preseason games Vince Carter but is suspended for 10 regular season games, also had a good night with 18 points. It was the preseason opener and though the Magic looked good and went home with a W, I need to see more to feel 100% confident. Can they compete with the arsenal the Lakers have put together during the off season? With all the new trades I’m excited to see what this NBA season has in store. I definitely think the Eastern Conference battle to the top will be well worth watching. After my trip to Dallas I stopped in Denver for a day or two but didn’t leave until I caught the Patriots vs. Denver game at INVESCO Field at Mile High. It was just about freezing at the game but the excitement kept me warm. Who am I fooling? I sat in a heated suite at the end zone. I had good seats to watch the Broncos upset my team and go 5-0 for the first time since 1998. I hate to see the Patriots lose but it was nice to see

38

University of Central Florida Alum, Brandon Marshall, have a good game. Marshall had the only touchdowns for the Broncos. Similarly to his game winning touchdown against the Cowboys in week 4, Marshall’s second touchdown against the Pats led the Broncos into overtime. The Broncos new head coach, Josh McDaniels, Brandon Marshall was more than ecstatic. He’s doing a good job thus far. Could the Broncos go all the way? The Cowboys also won in overtime against the Chiefs. I’m glad to see Tony Romo winning. If he doesn’t have a winning season or better yet win a play off game I don’t know who the Cowboy franchise can blame it on this time. First it was Jessica Simpson and her bad mojo, then it was T. O. and his bad attitude. It is never that Romo chokes under pressure and makes mistakes at crucial times. Guess I’ll have to keep watching to see what happens. On my flight to Denver I was able to watch the UF vs LSU game, the Georgia Tech vs FSU game, and the Golden State vs Phoenix Suns game. LSU just wasn’t able to get passed the Gators defensive line. Since I was watching three games at once I was doing a lot of channel changing. And every time I returned to the Georgia Tech vs FSU game someone had scored. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Seminoles 49-44. It can be fun and exciting to watch high scoring games, but what does that say for those teams defense? FSU needed to win that game. It may have gotten people off of Bowden’s back for a hot second. Bowden will be 80 years old and some say he’s too old to be coaching. He’s only had two losing seasons in the trillion years he’s been coaching there. My opinion, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
