DJ Riott has been moving crowds for over 10 years. Born in South Bronx, New York and moved to Florida at the age of 16. He has played to all types of crowds. All across the board, he has shown and proved that he has what it takes to move a crowd. With Riott's Latin roots, growing up in the streets of hip hop's home and roaming Florida's wide range of music genre, he learned to play and master most types of music genres. Now on Wheelup radio 93.5 FM the #1 Caribbean station in Orlando, DJ Riott's getting his feet wet in the radio world. "I represent Kissimmee to the fullest and Orlando is my backyard. I rep Kissimmee just because no one reps it and they live here, and if they do rep Kissimmee it's because Orlando kicked them out. "My mentor once told me 'Music is a universal language understood by all, DJ'ing is the method in which one is able to move many.' and radio is my outlet." D
on’t you feel the change in the air? Don’t the cooler temperatures bring about a different partying beast within you? It sure does for me! This is the season where you can find me & my friends looking into different scenes of actions. We spent our entire summer partying with the same folks, and we are now ready for something new & different. I love how the fall seasons bring about the creativeness with our local promoters. They are constantly coming up with clever themes that keep us coming out in the streets. Now with college students fully in their semesters, promoters have lost the majority of their party supporters. It only makes sense that they create events that are more appealing to those who may not go out as much, or to those who may not have ever thought to attend that specific party. Nevertheless, the party doesn’t stop…so why should I? LOL! So here I go to find different vibes & clever promotions…. Studio 54 Orlando @ Kafe Kahlik I mentioned this event in the last issue, and raved about how fabulous the event would be….boy, am I ever wrong? LOL. Such a beautiful production! They had boutiques (The Ego Lab) designers (Neo Fashion Inc) showcased for their “trunk show” (guests may purchase items displayed); such a great idea! Their visual designer, Dwayne Moore of Beyond Human, displayed his creative photographs & sold a couple of his pieces. The venue was filled with fashionistas & fashionistos & those who adore the fashion industry. They made two rooms for partying, with the patio area featuring a live reggae band (The 504 Crew). Dinner reservations were made available, and included a discounted admission into the event. Ladies, you did it again! Toni Ann, Porctia Symone, & Brandi Nikole…something tells me to expect nothing but top quality events with you ladies! And I say YOU GO GIRLS! My fellow party people, be sure not to miss the next one! Calle Orange downtown Orlando
LEGEND KEY Calle Orange, and everything I have ever heard about it was PARTY FAVORS right on point! The Renee Group LATE NIGHT GRUBBING really has this event coordinating ON POINT SERVICE down to a science. I was fortunate enough to be able to see the FLY HUNNIES location while their production HANDSOME FELLAS company was putting up the FRESH SETTINGS stages, tents, & port-a-potties. The production is no joke! This group drink specials really goes all out for this event. DOOR HOOK UPS I recall 4 stages….and 400,000 DOPE SOUNDS Hispanics! LOL. Well, maybe not that many, but these fun loving folks surely came out there in large numbers. It was surely a hot day outside, but that didn’t keep these folks of ALL ages from dancing their hearts out to all the Salsa, Merengue, & Reggaeton music blasting from all areas of the event. One thing I love more than having fun is witnessing those around me having even more fun! I truly enjoyed all the delicious Hispanic cuisine, music, and people. Not to mention all the supporting vendors with their new products & services were extremely informative & I think I may have shopped too much! But, isn’t that what Calle Orange is all about? Food, Music, & Shopping!!! I find myself looking to attend events that I may not normally attend. I also find myself looking for new promoters to support. All this work I do by walking the streets…working the streets. I am guilty of collecting flyers & studying them for all their info. What can I say…I like to party. What I like even more are new parties with fresh concepts & creative themes. With the upcoming holidays, I am sure I will come across many of these. And you know I will be sure to share them all with you. One thing I have noticed at every club are the numbers…they are low in attendance. I am doing a study now on why this is, and right now I am tinkering on the idea that promoters are not utilizing all their promotional mediums. These days, you need way more than a flyer, radio spots, & your social networks like Twitter & Facebook. You need to get more personal, make personal relationships. You may be surprised at how many emails I receive daily from party seekers looking for something to do. You may want to start considering Starlet as your personal friend to the streets. It’s real simple…all you have to do is email me your flyer & event info at starletinthestreets@gmail.com. You know I can’t wait to tell the streets what’s hot & what’s not! Plus you know I like to be where it is hot, and brag all about it! So, let’s get these streets buzzing & LET’S CELEBRATE!
When they say the Spanish know how to party…. boy do they mean it! This was my first year attending www.flyerpromonow.com

by Nick Grace NEPHEWBLAQ, what's good with you homie?
Living life like it’s no tomorrow. New Motto “Live Life Like You Hit the Florida Lotto.” Too many of us dying, too many mothers at the alter crying!! Why you say that?
That’s how I feel, homie. I just lost my lil' brother August this year. I’m more careful of my surroundings now. I watch people in my circle much closer now. I’ve seen too much death these past years, homie. Street life comes with many consequences & sacrifices. I pray my life never step outside of “God’s Grace”. How long have you been in the rap game?
Ever since I was 13, homie. I am Hip-Hop. I’m more into the storytelling. I like music that speaks on situations relevant to my environment. Listen to “Every Day Father’s Day” off my new mixtape “Sponsored By The Streetz 2.” The record elaborates on real life situations. I’m not the typical artist. I’m not big on fabrication. I prefer to make music people can relate too. What are some of your major influences in and out of the industry?
I really don’t pay attention to industry influences. I’m not one of them people who focus on people
14
| www.flyerpromonow.com
already in the industry. A new artist needs to focus on his or her craft. I don’t care about what another artist is doing. A signed artist with industry clout doesn’t care about what an unsigned artist is doing. My primary focus right now is making the best quality street music. Making music that paints a picture of reality. Who are some other artists on your label that might be making a name for themselves in the near future?
John Coffee & Gator Blak. We are working on material right now for their mixtapes releasing 1st quarter 2010. What label are you signed on?
I have my own label, Loudmouf Records which I am the CEO. Right now were looking for a partner. Some offers have been on the table. But we are searching for a deal that works for both parties whether it is an Artist deal or Joint Venture. It’s hard to find organizations in the music industry that conduct business out of good faith. Homie, I had to put that business hat on there. You asked me a question about my company. (laughing) What do you have in store for your fans in the future?
I just dropped a two-disc mixtape last month which is comprised of 30 songs. I dropped “Sponsored
By The Streetz part one, hosted by Dj Smallz. I also dropped “The Bidding War” mixtape. I’m dropping “Sponsored By The Streetz Part 2” this month. Look out for that. You can get it on www.msypace.com/ nephewblaqfl or www.datpiff.com, plus it will be all over the streets of Florida. My 1st official single is “Me & My Boo feat. M.E.W.” To all my fans, call your local radio stations and request this record. To all my beautiful, sexy, independent, women, BlaQ love you baby!! The Single “Me & My Boo feat. M.E.W.” is available on iTunes. Also my 2nd single “Nothing Like Merita ($$$)” is available on iTunes. Support ya boy and go cop that. Also “Nothing Like Merita ($$$)” &“Me & My Boo feat. M.E.W.” Ringtone is available. From your mobile phone: (Text NEPHEWBLAQ To 69937) to download “Nothing Like Merita ($$$) or “Me & My Boo feat. M.E.W.” ringtone!! Are you planning a tour or some type of appearance to promote your music?
speaking to a grown ass man. I feel that every artist needs to sit in a DJ booth and really observed what a DJ does. Just sit there and watch. You will realize “Deejaying” is a real-job. How would you feel if somebody walked up to you while you’re in the booth recording and handed you a CD? I have watched Crazy Yogi & DJ Nasty Deejaying on multiple occasions. It’s real work. Stop begging, stop complaining. Nobody is going to do nothing for you. Trust me!! If you want this, you have to go out there and get it!! New artists should research the music industry before deciding to be a part of it. Read books about publishing, royalties, digital rights, etc. Learn the game before you play it.

Flyer Promo N ow & Talkof Orlando .com presents this week’s Talk of Orlando,
Jessie Maguire.
In Orlando, Florida there are many movers and shakers, but none are quite like Jessie Maguire. This young female is focused and is great at what she does. From her radio show on 91.5 FM every Wednesday to having the title as being the assistant of one of today's well known and respected music producers
The Runners. She serves
as an artists dream when it comes to promotions.
She currently works with Orlando's own Kevin Cossom & super group Slaughterhouse. If you Google her name, you will come up with tons
of
So for people that don't know you, let people know exactly who you are and exactly what you do in the entertainment industry. My name is Jessie Maguire. I have my own radio show on WPRK 91.5 FM and I do promotional work for various artists. I work for The Runners, Kevin Cossom, and Slaughterhouse (Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9, Crooked I and Joell Ortiz). I do anything and everything to promote the artists that I work with. Everyone talks about how many haters they have, but really don't have any. Would you say that you have haters? And if so, why would people hate on you? I definitely have “Haters” but I try my best to not pay attention to them. I work extremely hard and have for many years. It took me a while to get where I'm at right now and I tried my best to never lose my morals or integrity. Those that hate just want my place so I just keep on working! Have you ever been star struck by any of the artists you have met? I was backstage at Hard Rock Live after a John Legend concert and was in the elevator with John and could not say a word. I was SPEECHLESS! Thankfully, I got to see him a few months later backstage at Kanye West's Glow in The Dark tour and got to talk to him.
interviews
Who would you say was the one artist that you interviewed that inspired you the most? And how so?
she has done for her radio show as well as for her website at www.themaguire.com.
Jessie has taken her love
for
the
music
and has taken it to levels
people
dream of.
only
The hustle
and the grind that she to not take lightly.
She doesn't do this for the money or the fame; she does this for the love!

possesses is something
I’ll never forget when KRSOne came to the studio and I got to interview him with my cohosts for over an hour. That’s a legend and he was on MY show, it was pretty incredible. However, the artist that inspired me the most was probably Joe Budden. Joe does not care AT ALL what people think about him. By spending some time with him, that characteristic stuck with me. You need thick skin to survive in the music industry and Joey definitely helped me find mine.
I am a huge fan of your radio show on WPRK 91.5 FM with Voice of Da Streetz. How were you able to acquire that situation? The general manager of the station was also one of my teachers freshman year in college and he encouraged his students to be involved on campus. I heard the DJ’s playing Dipset at 4am one morning and I decided to go check the station out. When I went down there, the DJ's told me that they were the only hip hop show. The following day I asked Dan (my teacher/WPRK general manager) how I could be involved and increase the hip hop division of the station. The title of hip hop music director was then given to me. The following semester, I was given my own radio slot. Wednesday nights from 11pm till 1am. People usually have this misconception that in order to be in this industry you have to be a male. Do you feel that your gender has helped or hindered your opportunities in this business? Being young and a female has done nothing but help my opportunities in this business. I look different, so I stand out and people tend to remember me because of it. Being a female and around male rappers and singers all day has blessed me with hundreds of new older brothers. I can only remember two occasions where I was disrespected because of my gender, but I just kept it moving. What one artist in Orlando do you feel is just a step away from blowing up? Explain why. Kevin Cossom. I could write a 20 page answer to this question but I will try to keep it short. Kevin Cossom has everything it takes to succeed from the talent to a wonderful team of people that believe in him. It's only a matter of time before Kevin Cossom blows up and takes over the music world. People are always shouting you out. Do you have any of your own shout outs at this time? Shouts to Voice of Da Streetz and the rest of the WPRK DJ’s, The Runners, Kevin Cossom, Rashad, Ben & Protej. Stay tuned for my upcoming project with DJ Drama and NAHRIGHT.COM. Also Log on to my site at WWW.THEMAGUIRE.COM.

his really isn't the year to be a rapper as Lil Wayne may join T.I. as he plead guilty to attempted weapon possession and is expected to be sentenced to a year in jail this coming February. Wayne confessed to having a .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun on-board his tour bus in 2007 after leaving a show in NY. Lesson: When traveling through the State of NY, remove your ammunition and do not carry guns; New York's gun laws are strict. We've heard of "poppin' bottles", but party goers during Howard's Homecoming took it a little too far. Rapper Fabolous had to duck and cover after bottles were repeatedly being thrown at the club while the artist was trying to depart. R&B singer, Monica’s new reality show, “Still Standing” premieres on BET Tuesday, October, 27th which will follow the star and her family as she begins a new phase in her music. The White House released the Obama's First Family photo which featured the beautiful family looking picture perfect in the Green Room. It's hard to imagine that the election was a year ago! Tameka Foster Raymond is seen here posing at her 'Lost Ones' charity event. Her charity supports women between the ages of 12-18 years old that are at risk of low scholastic achievement, pregnancy, drug use, and other unproductive behaviors, yet the party was sponsored by Hennessy. Tameka also appeared on Atlanta radio stations stating that her and Usher are "still married!" While that may legally be true, clearly she is not trying to face reality. Ten dollars says she'll still try and keep his last name after the divorce. SMH.

A weekly Entertainment, Legal News & Advice column from Shannon A. Ligon, The Entertainment & Legal Diva And on to some much needed advice... Dear Shannon, The holidays are approaching and I am at a lost about what to do for gifts because money is really tight and I'm already in major credit card debt. What are some alternatives I could try for this holiday season? -Gift Giving on a Budget Dear Gift Giving: The economy and personal finances will have us all reconsidering what to do about about gift giving during the holidays. Here are some suggestions if you absolutely have to buy gifts. Try layaway, as the recipient will never know how it was paid for, while allowing you time to earn up to the purchase. Other alternatives include making or baking gifts, but the ultimate gift may be simply donating your time. Lend a helping hand to a friend or family as a unique gift idea; I'm sure they'll appreciate the gesture. Happy Gifting, Shannon “Letting go doesn’t mean giving up, but rather accepting that there are things that cannot be.” - Anonymous Love. Live. And Entertain, Shannon A. ecently every time I browse a sports magazine there is all this hype about the Cavaliers and the Lakers. All the talk is about the Cavs and the Lakers going to the Finals this season. Now everyone is entitled to their opinions and predictions but this reminds me of last season. Every commercial, billboard, and other things of the marketing nature were focused on Kobe v. Lebron. But, King James and the Cavaliers never made it to the Finals. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Lakers will be on top of the Western Conference. Likewise the Cavaliers may also be on top of the East. But with the additions that the Celtics made to their roster, and KG back on the court they could very well be making it to the Finals too. I respect predictions but I just don’t respect total disregard for teams that also have a legitimate chance. People were saying the Magic wouldn’t get to the finals last season but they did. They are the reigning Eastern Conference Champions and they deserve some respect. Furthermore, the Celtics’ second five could be the starting lineup for some other teams in the league. They are without a doubt a force to be reckoned with. My predictions, much like everyone else, are Cleveland, Boston and Orlando, not necessarily in that order, being the top seeds in the East. Let’s just hope that they don’t waste a shit load of money on advertising a team for the finals that never makes it there again. As a matter of fact I’m working on this very article during halftime of Opening night of the NBA. The Cavaliers and the Celtics are playing I’m going to go ahead and predict the Celtics take home a W tonight. The New Orleans Saints snatched a W from the Dolphins during week 7. The still undefeated Saints made a statement that game when they outscored the Dolphins 22-0 in the fourth quarter. Statement or no statement this isn’t the BCS and being on top all season doesn’t necessarily guarantee them a spot in the SuperBowl. The Steelers

handed the Vikings their first L of the season. That game the Steelers defense showed why they say offense sells tickets but defense wins games. Highlight The Central Florida area is home to many champions. Whether they grew up here or just reside here great athletes walk among us. David “D.O.” Oliver is a decorated athlete that now calls Central Florida home. Oliver, a Denver native moved to Orlando after David Oliver graduating from Howard University where he played football and ran the 110m hurdles. After moving to Orlando to Train with Brooks Johnson Oliver’s professional track career began to take off. In 2004 he was ranked the #32 American amongst his fellow hurdlers. By 2006 he was ranked #7 in the world. Two short years later D.O. would become the #1 ranked American. If you watched the 2008 Olympics then you probably saw David Oliver on the Medal Stand. It was in Beijing that he won the Bronze medal in the 110m hurdles. This accolade is actually something Oliver never predicted or even saw in his future. Track was just a way to earn a scholarship to college. If you would have asked D.O. what he would be doing after receiving his degree he would have told you probably working a 9 to 5. But with hard work, diligence and of course raw talent, David Oliver is running track professionally for Nike, and has an Olympic Medal to prove it. I have to say I’m highly impressed. The Olympics are a BFD!. Since winning his medal he was honored in Denver and given his own day, October 3rd. Support our local athletes please. David is currently preparing for World Indoor Championships in 2010 and World Outdoor Championships in 2011 and of Course the 2012 Olympic Games.
