A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Legacy. What does it take to forge a legacy, and what do that word and concept mean to you? To me, creating and leaving a legacy means putting your essence - heart, soul and passioninto something that will profoundly shape and impact the lives of others.
As we look at this edition of The Bridge, we will explore and celebrate the power and influence of legacy leadership. Our focal point is the distinguished 2023 Legacy Leader Award, the ultimate recognition of exceptional leadership and service. We are honored to name Tom Dawson, former Dakota Chairman at Marsh McLennan Agency, as this year’s Legacy Leader. Tom is the embodiment of this honor, having devoted himself to championing the prosperity of our community and region. His contributions, spanning time, skill, resources and devotion, have enriched lives, careers, nonprofits, churches, businesses, The Chamber and the very fabric of our community. His leadership attributes also shine through his mentorship of individuals of all generations, both within his organization and the greater community.
You’ll also see first-hand the legacies that our businesses are leaving within our region. We are proud of the countless businesses in our region that are leaving their mark, enhancing our community, elevating their people and leaving a legacy for the next generation and future of FMWF.
We are very excited to announce the 2023-24 Leadership FMWF class. These participants, and their employers, have demonstrated a desire to enhance their leadership attributes and individual legacies. Congratulations to this new class, we look forward to engaging with you and witnessing your impact in our community.
When thinking about legacy leaders, oftentimes our minds gravitate toward influential public figures, U.S. Presidents or famous individuals. Today, we proudly introduce our Women Connect Celebration speakers, individuals who’ve personally experienced one such presidential legacy. The Chamber is privileged to present Jenna and Barbara Bush as our September keynote speakers, who will move you with their heartfelt stories, unprecedented challenges, unique perspective and actionable life guidance.
The Chamber works every day behind the scenes to leave a legacy for this region. A legacy that allows us to compete in a global marketplace and be a home for passionate, unique and successful individuals and businesses. As we look ahead to our Annual Celebration, the essence of a legacy becomes apparent – celebrating and honoring the past, as well as looking to the future with energy and foresight. Please join us on November 3, as we share our vision for tomorrow and recognize Tom Dawson and the many other individuals whose contributions have played a role in shaping our community.
Shannon Full President & CEO Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of CommercePLEASE BRIEFLY DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO IN YOUR POSITION.
As the Career Navigator for The Chamber Foundation, one of my main roles is guiding and supporting participants through the Good Jobs Challenge Grant Project and the FMWF Ignite Initiative. Along with this, I help foster relationships with community agencies, education partners and businesses to help provide need-based services and employment or advancement opportunities for participants in these workforce programs.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR ROLE SO FAR?
One of the things that I love about my role and the environment at The Chamber, is the openness to creativity. I have always felt like someone who is coming up with big out-of-the-box ideas, which is very welcomed here. I feel surrounded by likeminded and open people who want to support these ideas and use them to create lasting impacts in our community.

NAVIGATOR FOR THE CHAMBER FOUNDATIONLegacy Leader 20 23
Each year, The Chamber’s Annual Celebration is an opportunity to highlight successes of the past year, recognize and thank our countless volunteers, and outline our priorities for the coming year. It’s a time to reflect, celebrate, laugh and network with community champions and Chamber volunteers as we also make time to honor our Legacy Leader.
The annual Legacy Leader Award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the community. The award recognizes and emphasizes the important role and contributions of long-time local leaders in both shaping and serving the metropolitan community and greater region. This year, The Chamber is proud to announce your 2023 Legacy Leader as Tom Dawson, previous Dakota Chairman at Marsh McLennan Agency.
Tom was born and raised
in Fargo and started his insurance career the day after graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1973. He was proud to be the third generation in a business founded by his grandfather in 1917.
Over the past 50 years, Tom has worked directly with all types and sizes of commercial clients including complex contractors and real estate firms. He takes great satisfaction in helping build a culture at Dawson Insurance, now Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA), that attracts and retains the absolute best people who, in turn, develop their clients into friends. The partnership with MMA has been particularly fulfilling for him.
Tom is a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Dakota and served on the national board of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America for many years. He is also a former member of the
Board of Governors for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.
Tom’s family and Dawson Insurance have always been passionate about the greater Fargo-Moorhead community, a standard set by Tom’s grandfather, Charles, who served as Mayor of Fargo from 1946 to 1950; and therefore, he has continued a tradition of serving civic and not-for-profit organizations. These include MeritCare Health System (predecessor to Sanford Health), YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties, Plains Art Museum, Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation, Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation, Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce, Dollars for Scholars, Judicial Nominating Committee for North Dakota, and he was a Big Brother for the BBBS program through The Village for many years. He’s also active with the United Way of CassClay, First Presbyterian Church and Fargo Kiwanis Club.
Tom and his wife Georgia have been married for 39 years and have three married sons, Zack (Kelly), Alex (Raime)
and Mike (Brittany) and six precious grandchildren who all enjoy spending time at their lake home year-round. He also enjoys an occasional hunting trip and traveling with his wife Georgia, their family and friends.
Since retiring this past August as Dakota Chairman for Marsh McLennan Agency, Tom’s retirement plans include taking up golf (again), spending lots of time with grandchildren’s activities, traveling, spending more time at the lakes and staying involved in the community.

The cyber and tech landscape is rapidly evolving and it’s vital that our community and business leaders take the time to learn and understand the threats and opportunities that can come along with such advancements. The Midwest Cybersecurity and Technology Summit is hosted annually by The FMWF Chamber with 26 co-hosting chambers across the region who stream the event to their communities and membership bases.
The Midwest Cybersecurity and Technology Summit serves as a crucial platform to convene the brightest minds and leaders, where
experts, businesses and community members can educate each other, work together and keep the region connected, competitive and leading on innovation and technology.
August 17, community members gathered at the Delta by Marriott Fargo to hear from experts from across the region and nation as they hosted a cutting-edge discussion about topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), business attacks and safety, the CHIPS Act, emerging tech and more. Not only was this event available to the FMWF Metro, but it was also available via livestream, bringing in virtual attendees from across the country to listen to and watch this important event. The Chamber is proud to share that we had nearly 500 people in attendance and over 6,000 viewers online throughout the region for this important event.
Michael Mattmiller, Senior Director of State Government Affairs at Microsoft, opened as keynote speaker for the 2023 Midwest Cybersecurity and Technology Summit. Mattmiller began his presentation, AI Revolution: Unleashing the power, shaping the future and embracing responsibility, by diving into the rapid evolution and implementation of artificial intelligence in many companies, schools and governments.
Mattmiller also showed the audience just how intelligent these services can be. With each request getting more and more specific, Mattmiller was able to show how Microsoft Bing Chat would work to write remarks for a specific person in a specific role completing a specific task. AI was able to find everything
online it needed to know about the person’s job and the topic they were focusing on – and create remarks curated to the audience and the speaker himself.
“AI does provide a tremendous amount of potential. It can help us do more with the resources we have today. It can help us solve challenges that we wouldn’t have been able to solve otherwise, and we’re just at the beginning of this AI revolution. The opportunity is yours to lead the AI transformation.”
– Michael MattmillerDr. Behrooz Shirazi, Deputy Division Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF), followed Mattmiller with his presentation, Driving Innovation and Sustainability: The Role of Technology and the CHIPS Act. Dr. Shirazi shared key information about his employer, the NSF, and how they work to support their mission to promote the progress of science; to advance national health, prosperity and welfare; and to secure the national defense, among other things, by providing funding to researchers to enable them to carry out research and technology development.
Dr. Shirazi also went in depth on the CHIPS and Science Act and the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research
MICHAEL MATTMILLER Senior Director of State Government Affairs Microsoft(EPSCoR) Program. He shared the CHIPS and Science Act’s purpose is to bolster U.S. leadership in semiconductors by providing funding towards semiconductor research, development, manufacturing and workforce development; and to strengthen commercialization of research and technology to ensure what is invented in America, is made in America. Attendees also learned about EPSCoR and how it enhances research competitiveness by strengthening science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) capacity and capability through a diverse portfolio of investments.
Following Dr. Shirazi, the expert panel took the stage to discuss how we are Building a Tech Ecosystem in the Midwest. Panelists included Kristi Berg, Department Chair of Business Information Technology at Minot State University; Executive Producer of the Cyber Security Summit; Shawn Riley, Co-founder of Bisblox; and moderator, Kyle Hendrickson, Director of Cybersecurity at Eide Bailly LLP.
The panel explored the tech ecosystem of the Midwest and how it can be developed and enhanced into a sustainable industry in the region. Eileen Manning explained, “To build a true ecosystem, you have to talk across all infrastructures. The diversity of all the different sectors is really critical in building a successful ecosystem.”
Not only that, but panelists also dove into the workforce and the roles industry partnerships with educational institutions play in fostering the development of a skilled workforce that meets the specific needs of the technology sector. “The student wants to be able to come in and do a good job. The college wants to produce a student who is going to do a good job for you. And you want to hire someone that’s doing a good job,” said Shawn Riley. “We have to make sure we have a closely integrated

communication to make sure those skillsets are being delivered. We have to have partnerships between the university systems, the k-12 systems and the industries.”
To close out the event, Dr. JoseMarie Griffiths took center stage to discuss Power Cyber: The Symbiotic Relationship Among Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing. Dr. Griffiths discussed the different types of cybersecurity threats, both the flaws and potential of artificial intelligence, and the power of quantum computing and how all three can come together to increase the power and compute capabilities of future computers.
“I see all of these three are intimately related together. You put the three together, you get a really powerful combination.”

HORSE-STORY IN THE MAKING: 90 YEARS OF THE BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES
From the Prohibition era to Super Bowl commercials, there is perhaps nothing more iconic in Budweiser’s storied history than its team of Clydesdale horses. More than just a mascot, the Clydesdales have been an integral part of Anheuser-Busch for more than 80 years.
In April 1933, August A. Busch Jr. and Adolphus Busch III surprised their father, August A. Busch Sr., with the gift of a six-horse Clydesdale hitch to commemorate the repeal of Prohibition of beer.
Realizing the marketing potential of a horse-drawn beer wagon, the company also arranged to have a second six-horse Clydesdale hitch sent to New York to mark the event. The Clydesdales drew a crowd of thousands on their way to the Empire State Building. After a small ceremony, a case of Budweiser was presented to former Governor Alfred E. Smith in appreciation of his years of service in the fight against Prohibition.
THE WORLD-FAMOUS BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES: A SPECIAL BREED IS BORN
Shortly after the hitch was first introduced, the six-horse Clydesdale team increased to eight. On March 30, 1950, in commemoration of the opening of the Anheuser-Busch Newark Brewery, a Dalmatian was introduced as the Budweiser Clydesdales’ mascot. Now, a Dalmatian travels with each of the Clydesdale hitches.
A look into the rich, colorful history of the special Clydesdale breed 19th century, along the River Clyde in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The region, “dale,” was known for its rich soil and abundant crops. The farmers needed hauling, plowing, and carting all the necessary farm equipment and workers.
This hitch continued on a tour of New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, thrilling thousands, before stopping in Washington, D.C., in April 1933 to reenact the delivery of one of the first cases of Budweiser to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Today, the Budweiser Clydesdales continue to be an enduring symbol of the brewer’s heritage, tradition and commitment to quality, making hundreds of appearances across the country each year.
One of the Dukes of Hamilton, a local, wealthy landowner imported Horses, a breed that already had been regularly shipped to Scotland to be used for farm work. The Duke made his six prize horses available for breeding Clydesdale breed was born. People from outside Lanarkshire began to refer horses as “the Clydesman’s horse,” a name that eventually became “Clydesdale.”
The early Clydesdales quickly garnered attention as a breed more powerful apable of pulling loads
It was the breed’s hauling power and
In fact, in the early days of brewing, s success was directly related to how far his draft horses could pull
WDAY-TV
70 years of broadcast excellence
HISTORY OF WDAY
June 1, 1953: WDAY TV hits the air as the first tv station in Fargo and eastern North Dakota. WDAY TV grew from WDAY Radio, which started in 1922. WDAY used many of its seasoned radio stars to come over to television, bringing live shows and entertainers. Back in the early days of television, local TV stations only came on in the early afternoons and evenings. Early on, news was often read without any pictures, since film took just too long to process.
Live afternoon shows like “Party Line” were extremely popular, airing every afternoon at 3:00 p.m., starting in 1954. It featured local talent, homemaker segments and much more that kept thousands of viewers tuning in every day, equipped with even a live audience. Peggy Lee and Lawrence Welk were some of the top entertainers at the time.

1958 , Forum Communications became the majority owner.
1967, newscasts in color began.
1979, WDAY moved to its current location at the former Blue Cross Blue Shield building on 301 8th St S in Fargo.
1983, WDAY transitioned from being NBC-affiliated to ABCaffiliated.
1995, WDAY purchased a LIVE satellite truck, the first in the area.
Flash forward a couple of decades, WDAY has expanded in many ways. Gaining a new subchannel called WDAY Xtra in 2014, expanding to six hours of weather and news daily, to becoming the voice of North Dakota State University (NDSU) athletics and North Dakota high school sports.
FUN FACTS
WDAY TV is unique for being one of the westernmost stations whose call sign begins with “W” – most stations west of the Mississippi River Start with “K.”
This is a historical legacy, as WDAY radio was established in 1922, a year before the United States government moved the K-W call sign boundary to the Mississippi River.
At the time of WDAY TV’s launch, television was still a luxury, with the price of basic television sets starting around $200, equivalent to about $1,800 in today’s buying power.
WDAY Television was so popular that it had its own newspaper called “Mike Notes” that featured stories about our on-air talent.
LOOKING AHEAD
Despite how much WDAY TV has grown, the dedication to the community remains unchanged, as it continues to be a locally produced news outlet and locally owned by Forum Communications.
WDAY TV’s 70th anniversary marks the continued commitment of this family-owned station to its viewers and the community. Thank you for making us the most watched news in the region.

HOUSTON ENGINEERING, INC.
50 Years of Engineering Excellence
In 1968, a young man was about to take a major gamble. He was at the start of his career, having worked for an established civil engineering firm for just a few years. At the age of 26, George Houston chose to begin his own civil engineering and surveying firm in Fargo, N.D. – Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI).
Early on, he brought on Bob Muscha and Hank Trangsrud, who would later become partners and key leaders in establishing HEI and its values. The ambition, drive for quality and honesty of our early founders became the bedrock that HEI was built on. We still live by these core values today: being client-focused, committed to excellence and quality, and striving to be the ideal team player who is humble, hungry and smart.
From HEI’s first days, the firm has sought to drive technological advancements and efficiencies. That philosophy holds true today. “Our commitment to being on the cutting edge of technology has allowed us
to provide the highest level of quality that our clients deserve,” says Gregg Thielman, HEI’s President and CEO. “By integrating this technology into each of our services, we are able to deliver cost efficient and sustainable solutions to the communities we serve.” This commitment to seeking and creating new technologies is what allowed us to expand our team and services for clients throughout the Upper Midwest and beyond. We now offer a wide range of services, including water resources, transportation, infrastructure, environmental, technology and more to our clients and communities.
HEI has enjoyed being in business for more than 50 years—a feat that we are proud of. We managed to thrive partially by expanding our services across 11 offices in five states across the Upper Midwest. We also know we couldn’t have gotten this far without the communities we serve. Clients, staff, the public— however one looks at it—people are the heart of everything we do
in this industry. That is something our founders believed, and we hold to it today. “Providing exceptional, high-quality solutions that serve our communities well into the future has always been our goal. We value our long-term, trusted relationships with our clients and don’t take their loyalty for granted. Our work serves, not only the organizations that hire us, but the communities we live in,” says Thielman.
Still proudly headquartered— and growing—in Fargo, we have been privileged to have tackled some of the region’s most complex engineering and environmental challenges. We are grateful to have been entrusted with so many important projects that can improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people for generations. “Our continued expansion has allowed us to serve more communities. We are looking forward to continuing George, Bob and Hank’s legacies of providing innovative services for future generations,” says Thielman.

WOLD JOHNSON, P.C.
a Century of Excellence and Commitment to FMWF
Not only has Wold Johnson, P.C. been around for fifty years, it has been a part of the Fargo-Moorhead community for over a century!
It all started in 1916 when A.R. Bergesen graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and moved to Fargo, North Dakota, to establish a law practice. “Berge,” as he was known, set up a law office on Broadway and went on to become Cass County State’s Attorney, State Representative and Speaker of the North Dakota House of Representatives.
Later on, Bergesen and his partner, Otto Haakenstad, founded Western States Life Insurance Company, which became one of the state’s largest insurance companies. Bergesen eventually left the practice of law to become President of Gate City Federal Savings and Loan Association and presided over its state-wide expansion.
Since that time, the law firm has had a variety of names over the years — “Burnett, Bergesen and Haakenstad,” “Whittlesey and Pancratz,” “Pancratz,
Wold and Johnson,” “Wold Johnson, Feder, Brothers, Beauchene and Schimmelpfennig,” and most recently, “Wold Johnson, P.C.”
Though its attorneys have changed over the years, what has remained constant is the firm’s dedication to excellence and commitment to serving the community. As with its founding attorney, members of the firm have taken pride in playing active roles in the development of the local community and states through the last century.
From serving as a Justice on the North Dakota Supreme Court to President of the State Bar Association or Foundation, to being a member of state Legislature or The Chamber’s Board of Directors, the possibilities are endless when it comes to what Wold Johnson members can and have done for the community. These contributions have had a lasting impact on the legal profession, as well as the Fargo-Moorhead community.
Wold Johnson has six lawyers presently who reflect a combined 150 years of practice experience in
various areas of law, including estate planning, probate, employment, criminal, real estate and corporate law. Providing this support allows youth to focus on other areas of independence and selfsufficiency. More than 50% of youth are employed at some level . We continue to work with more than 25 other agencies in our community for balancing available services to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. For the past decade, during the winter months, SSRC has provided a program referred to as Extended Hours to this specific youth population. During this time, we see an increase of 75-100 new individuals accessing services. It is our goal to be open for the winter of 2024.

DAKOTAMB
300+ continuous years of baking and milling experience
DakotaMB is a dedicated ingredient supplier of value-added grains, multigrain blends, functional mixes, granola and many specialty ingredients to the wholesale bakery, cereal and snack food industry, with a core focus of milling, blending and toasting.
It would be safe to assume that one of our many specialty ingredients currently resides in your kitchen pantry. Our specialized ingredients include items such as flaked grains, granola, cake blends and baking powders, to name a few. With a long-standing heritage of reliability, passion and trust, customers around the globe call on DakotaMB to deliver the highest quality products from the Heartland of the U.S.
Widely known in the industry as simply “Dakota”, our namesake and history, tied to our Midwest qualities help set the stage for a vibrant future, building on our storied past.
The first Matthaei Bakery opened in Marburg, Germany in 1686. Over the next 300 years, the Matthaei family immigrated to the U.S.; opened
bakeries in Kansas City and Tacoma, Wash.; built Roman Meal bread and cereals into a national brand; and pivoted to milling and blending.
Today, fifth U.S. generation CEO W. Peter Matthaei steers the family of companies, which includes Dakota Specialty Milling, Dakota Blenders and Roman Meal International. In 2022, the company rebranded to unite its multi-faceted identity as DakotaMB, with the “MB” being a nod to the company’s core focus of ingredient milling and blending.
A strategic decision was made in 1968 to move from Tacoma to Fargo, N.D. “We bet our company’s future on Fargo, and it was the best decision we ever made” said Bill Matthaei, DakotaMB’s Chairman of the Board.
In 1969, the first mill opened in Fargo to supply whole grain blends for Roman Meal breads and hot cereals. In 1990, we built a second mill under the name Roman Meal Milling Company, allowing the company to supply the broader grain foods industry. Roman Meal Milling changed
its name to Dakota Specialty Milling to identify its business and location for a growing and diverse customer base in the grain foods industry.
Our Fargo campus is home to 120+ employees in addition to 60+ employees in our St. Louis division. Opportunistically positioned in the central U.S., our business distributes roughly 150 million pounds of ingredients every year. Throughout North America and Asia, we are known through the food ingredient industry as a creative and reliable business, offering solutions to the most complex challenges through advanced research and development.
In 2019, we celebrated 50 years as a Fargo-based business. Throughout that time, we have become deeply rooted in the community and are especially grateful for those who have been a part of our success – most importantly, our wonderful employees! We are compelled to grow; not simply for the sake of growing, but to uphold our mission of being the world’s most trusted supplier of nutritious specialty ingredients.
Gate City Bank: Now & Then
A Century of Better Banking Began in 1923.
At Gate City Bank, we’re honored to celebrate an incredible milestone: 100 years of creating a better way of life. A century of better banking!
The heart of our story has always been our innovative team members – especially when it comes to their unwavering dedication, hard work and philanthropic spirit, which they bring to work every day. Their sincere passion for our customers, communities and one another has always moved Gate City Bank forward, inspiring exciting new chapters, including those yet to come.
Our story started a century ago – in July 1923. That’s when our founder and first president, William D.Gillespie, assembled a small group of tenacious visionaries and led them on an incredible journey, one that would ultimately spark the reimagining of community banking, and the founding of a financial institution like no other.
Innovation and passion have always been paramount to our success and key to remaining the financial leader across our footprint in North Dakota and Minnesota. Indeed, it’s hard not to feel a sense of wonder when thinking about the breadth of these past 100 years. Throughout all that time, we’ve remained committed to creating a better way of life –and we’re just getting started.
How Our Story Began.
With the coming of the railroad in 1872, Fargo, ND, was located in the center of what was then considered the “Gateway to the West,” which is how it landed the nickname, “The Gate City.”
In 1923, Fargo citizens looking for a better way of life thought the name was most appropriate for the newly chartered Gate City Building and Loan Association.

As sure as it will rise each day, we’ll be there for our customers and communities.
Did you know Gate City Bank’s logo inspired sun? This organization started with three team members and quickly grew to eight pioneers. The group originally offered passbook savings and conventional mortgage loans, and by the end of their first year, assets totaled a mere $16,000.
Since day one, Gate City Bank has been committed to helping customers become homeowners. But we didn’t stop there! We innovated constantly throughout the decades, working tirelessly to deliver countless leading-edge products and services that have created a better way of life for so many.
Our free ATMs have allowed customers to enjoy fee refunds anytime, anywhere – worldwide, saving them $53 million. Our one-of-a-kind BetterLife™ Student Loan has helped customers consolidate debt and pay off student loans faster, with no fees and a low interest rate. Our reimagined online and mobile banking experience has made managing finances from anywhere a breeze. The list goes on and on.
Additionally, as industry regulations changed and our innovative offerings grew over the years, we sported different names as a natural part of our evolution as the region’s leading financial institution: Gate City Building and Loan Association, Gate City Savings and Loan Association, Gate City Federal Savings and Loan and Gate City Federal Savings Bank.
What has remained constant, however, is our commitment – to bringing the best for our customers in everything we do, to making communities better and to encouraging team member leadership.
giving and more than 285,000 hours of team volunteerism since 2003. We’ve also been named one of the “50 Best Places to Work” nine years in a row by Prairie Business magazine.
We’ve been busy for the past century, but we’ve stayed true to our roots every step of the way. Throughout all these years, we’ve continued to walk in the footsteps of those talented, passionate and hardworking trailblazers who set our vision in motion, all while fulfilling a beautiful purpose, a perfect destiny – to create a better way of life for customers, communities and one another.
We’ll never grow tired of marveling at the inspiring history that rests upon our shoulders. It’s truly amazing to consider the profound impact we’ve had throughout these many years leading up to today. Our better way of life is everywhere you look!
The warm thank you hug of a food pantry organizer receiving a much-needed surprise donation. The impossible-to-contain smile of a new homeowner grasping the keys to that dream house. The happy tears of a team member and military veteran standing amongst cheering colleagues during a career milestone celebration. The warm aroma of freshly baked cookies awaiting visitors in the lobby.
Indeed, we’ve crafted something extraordinary together throughout the past century – a true masterpiece. Here’s to the next 100 years!

IT SCARED
Melanie IversonJuly 25, Melanie Iverson took the Women Connect stage to present Doing it Scared: Overcoming Fear and Building Confidence. Iverson shared her inspiring story of how she went from living her life in fear as a victim of circumstance to living in confidence and strength – taking risks, becoming an advocate for herself and others and becoming the leader she was meant to be.
While Iverson had experienced pain and fear throughout her entire life, she decided she no longer wanted
wine, but they also learned the art of finding oneself through life’s many trials and tribulations.
Lewis shared her story and the challenges she faced starting a new business as a mother. She shared how she found the perfect pairing with her work and professional life but also explained how it did not come easily.
Bartholomay shared her experience with chasing a dream that led her down a different path and the ups and downs of her professional journey that made her the successful woman she is today.
“If it doesn’t scare you, it probably isn’t something you should do, and it probably isn’t going to help you grow.”
it to control her. Iverson explained how, sometimes, you need to do things scared, because you won’t always feel brave. Women Connect attendees had the opportunity to look within and evaluate what they might be allowing their own fears to hold them back from.
Taking from her last decade of successes, failures and experiences, Iverson developed a curriculum that would transform and empower women to become the women and leaders they were always meant to be.
“What would you do if fear wasn’t reducing you to live a less impactful life?”
