Fuarlar normalleşmenin ölçüsü oldu Her ne kadar mekanlar ve etkinlikler birer birer açılsa da fuarlar, özellikle de uluslararası fuarlar olmadıkça normalleşme zihinlere tam oturmuyor. Ne zaman ki dolu dolu fuarlar sahne alır, işte o zaman herkes pandemiyi unutur. İktisatta yaygın bir söz vardır: “Problem olmadıkça şirketlerde muhasebe servislerinin değeri anlaşılmaz,” diye.

Demek ki fuarlar da ticaretin de ötesinde, sosyal hayatta bile öyle bir öneme sahip. Her ne kadar öteden beri fuarların ticaretteki önemini herkes biliyorsa da sosyal yaşamda bu kadar yeri olduklarını herhalde kimse bilmiyordu.

Eylül ayının başlarında İstanbul güzellik fuarı ile sezon başladı. Türkiye’de ve yurt dışında çeşitli fuarlar oldu ama esas umudumuz Kasım ayındaki iki gıda fuarı. Yapılabildikleri takdirde esas büyük adım olacak. Gelecek yıl fuarlar belki ziyaretçi açısından yarıya düşecek ama eminim ki fonksiyon olarak en az eski fuarların iki katı iş görecekler. İki yıldır sıkışan taleplerin bu fuarlarda ticarete dönüşmesini bekliyoruz. Gelecek sayımız ile CNR Food ve WorldFood İstanbul fuarlarındaki stantlarımıza bekleriz.

Fairs have become the measure of normalization Although the venues and events are opened one after another, normalization does not fit the mind unless fairs are held, especially the international ones. Whenever fairs take the stage with people flowing in, then everyone forgets about the pandemic.

There is a saying in the science of economics: “Unless there is a problem, the value of accounting services in companies is not valued”. That is to say, fairs have such an importance beyond trade, even in social life.

Although everybody knew the importance of fairs in trade for a long time, nobody knew that they had such an important place in the social life.

The season started with the Istanbul beauty fair in early September. There have been various fairs in Turkey and worldwide, but our big hope is that if two food fairs in November can be held, the real big step will have been taken. Next year, the fairs will be halved in terms of visitors, but I am sure that they will function at least twice as much as the old fairs. We expect the demands that have been stuck for two years to turn into trade at these fairs.

With our next issue, we would be happy to welcome you at our stands at CNR Food and WorldFood Istanbul fairs.

Türkiye, ihracatta Cumhuriyet tarihinin Eylül rekorunu kırdı Turkey hits all-time high September export figure this year, says trade minister Türkiye İhracatçılar Meclisi (TİM), Ticaret Bakanı Ruhsar Pekcan’ın da katılımıyla eylül ayı geçici dış ticaret verilerini, İstanbul’da düzenlediği toplantıyla açıkladı. Türkiye’nin ihracatı eylül ayında bir önceki yılın aynı ayına göre yüzde 4,8 artarak 16 milyar 13 milyon dolara ulaştı.

Türk ihracatçısının olağanüstü koşullarda bile ne kadar başarılı olduğunu tüm dünyaya bir kez daha gösterdiğini belirten TİM Başkanı İsmail Gülle, “Dış Ticaret Fazlası Veren Türkiye’’ hedefimize Hükümetimizin destekleri ve ihracatçımızın alın teriyle, emin adımlarla yürüyoruz” dedi. İsmail Gülle, Eylül ayı ihracat rakamları hakkında şu bilgileri verdi: “Eylül ayında ihracatımız Ağustos ayına göre yüzde 22,1’lik, geçtiğimiz yılın aynı ayına göre ise, yüzde 4,8’lik artışla 16 milyar 13 milyon Dolar oldu.

Turkey this year hit an all-time high in September export figures -- $16.01 billion -- Turkey’s trade minister announced on Friday.

The country’s exports rose 4.8% on a yearly basis and 28.5% on a monthly basis in September, Ruhsar Pekcan said. Turkey’s exports also climbed 34.5% in the third quarter of this year from the previous quarter, she added.

These export figures confirm that Turkey’s recovery and normalization from the pandemic period are continuing successfully, Pekcan stressed. Meanwhile, the country’s imports in September totaled $20.89 billion, with an overwhelming 89.3% made up of raw material and capital goods, she said.

In the first nine months of this year, Turkey’s exports totaled $118.35

Bin 676 firma ise ilk defa ihracat gerçekleştirdi.

TİM Başkanı İsmail Gülle, “Olağanüstü bir performansla Türk ihracatında tarihin en yüksek Eylül rakamını yakaladık. Türkiye İhracatçılar Meclisi olarak, Her zaman ifade ettiğimiz “Dış Ticaret Fazlası Veren Türkiye’’ hedefimize, Hükümetimizin destekleri ve ihracatçımızın alın teriyle, emin adımlarla yürüyoruz,” dedi.

2020 ihracat hedefimiz olan 165,9 milyar dolara da ulaşacağız. Son dönemde, bu başarının sinyallerini zaten halihazırda alıyorduk. Normalleşmeyle gelen son üç aydaki ihracat rakamlarımız, yeni dönemin ihtiyaçlarına hızla adapte olduğumuzu göstermişti. 2021-2023 Yeni Ekonomi Programı’nda da “İhracata ve ithal ürünlerin yerli üretimine dayalı ekonomik dönüşüm ve değişim” hedefi ihracata verilen önemi vurguluyor. Ayrıca, büyüme hedeflerine ulaşmak için “ihracata, katma değerli üretime ve istihdama” çok daha fazla yoğunlaşılacağının ifade edilmesi, ihracat hedeflerimizi yakalamak adına bize önemli güç katacaktır. İhracata dayalı ekonomik büyüme modelinin aktörleri olarak, bizler de, ülkemizin 2023 hedeflerine ulaşması için tedarik ve pazar kurgulamasını buna göre icra edeceğiz.”

1676 firma “İhracata merhaba” dedi İsmail Gülle, eylül ayında bin 676 firmanın “ihracata merhaba” dediklerini ifade etti. İsmail Gülle, “Yılbaşından bu yana aylık bazda ihracat ailesine katılımda da bir rekor kırdık. İhracata yeni başlayan bu bin 676 firmamız Eylül ayında 80 milyon 174 bin dolarlık ihracat gerçekleştirdi. Firma özelinde bakıldığında, Eylül ayı içerisinde Toplam 41 bin 386 firmamız ihracat gerçekleştirdi,” dedi. İhracatçılarımız 207 ülkede bayrağımızı dalgalandırdı Eylül ayında ihracatçılarımızın ülkemizin bayrağını 207 ülkede dalgalandırmayı başardığını ifade eden

billion and imports $156.24 billion, the trade minister added.

The country’s exports to France rose by 12.8%, while Germany (10.6%), the UK (3.2%), and Spain (2.3%) followed it in September, the minister stressed.

Italy and the Netherlands posted drops by 7.2% and 5.9%, respectively, she added. Exports to the EU increased by 5.6%, to America by 22%, to Asia 6.8% and to Africa by 1.7% in September, she said.

Stressing that the pandemic narrowed the world economy at an unprecedented level and reduced demand in important markets such as the EU, Pekcan said Turkey has posted a significant performance in the export side.

Touching on Turkey’s supports for exporters, she said the country’s Eximbank in the first nine months raised its supports by 7% to $30.4 billion. She also said the country organized 24 trade delegations, covering 40 countries this year and made 4,200 business meetings.

Pekcan highlighted that the number of Turkish exporters increased by 6.8% year-on-year in September.

Eylül ayında en çok ihracat gerçekleştirdiğimiz ilk 3 ülke ise 1 milyar 516 milyon dolar ile Almanya; 1 milyar 143 milyon dolar ile Birleşik Krallık ve 947 milyon dolar ile ABD oldu. İlk 10 ülkenin ihracattaki payı, yüzde 48,6 olurken; ilk 20 ülkede bu oran, yüzde 66,1 olarak gerçekleşti. Yılın ilk dokuz ayında ise; en çok ihracat gerçekleştirdiğimiz ilk 5 ülke 11,28 milyar dolar ile Almanya, 7,55 milyar dolar ile Birleşik Krallık, 7,24 milyar dolar ile ABD, 6,24 milyar dolar ile Irak, 5,53 milyar dolar ile İtalya oldu.

Eylül ayında, Ülke gruplarına göre ihracata baktığımızda ise, en büyük pazarımız olan Avrupa Birliği’nin ihracatımızdaki payının Eylül ayında, 6,77 milyar dolarlık bir hacim ile yüzde 42,3 seviyesine yükseldiğini görüyoruz. AB haricindeki diğer Avrupa ülkelerini de topladığımızda, Avrupa kıtasının ihracatımızdaki payı Yüzde 56,5 olarak gerçekleşti. Diğer ülke gruplarına baktığımızda ise, Eylül ayında, Yakın ve Orta Doğu ülkelerine yüzde 4,7 düşüş ile 2,8 milyar dolar; Afrika kıtasının tamamına yüzde 3,7’lik artışla 1,36 milyar

dolar; Uzak Doğu ülkelerine ise yüzde 6,8’lik artış ile 1,23 milyar dolar ihracat gerçekleştirdik.”

Katma değerli ürün ihracatı artıyor Eylül ayında Kilogram başı ihracat değeri yüksek birçok üründe ihracatın arttığını belirten İsmail Gülle, “Kilogram başı ihracat değeri 10 doların üzerinde olan yüksek katma değerli ürünlerimizin toplam ihracatı eylül ayında artış gösterdi.

Bu ürünlerde, 2019 yılının eylül ayında, 3 milyar 646 milyon dolar olan ihracatımız, bu yılın aynı ayında, yüzde 12 oranında artarak, 4 milyar 92 milyon dolar seviyesine yükseldi. Kilogram başı ihracatı 50 doların üzerinde olan en yüksek katma değere sahip ürünlerde ise eylül ayında ihracatımız 656 milyon dolara ulaştı,” dedi.

Paritenin olumlu etkisi 475 milyon dolar Son dönemde paritedeki artışın etkisi ihracata pozitif yansıdı. Eylül ayında paritedeki artışın pozitif etkisinin 475 milyon dolar olarak gerçekleştiğini görüyoruz. Yılın ilk dokuz ayında ise paritedeki yükselişin pozitif etkisi 38 milyon 521 bin dolar olarak gerçekleşti.

40% reduction in specific carbon emissions achieved in Belgium production facility.

BENEO moves further towards carbon neutrality at Oreye chicory root fibre plant BENEO, one of the leading manufacturers of functional ingredients, has announced a 40% reduction in specific carbon emissions at its Oreye facility in Belgium. This achievement is a result of a 10-year program of energy saving, which closed with an 11 million Euro investment into increased energy efficiency measures.

The reductions at Oreye show the company’s continued commitment to prioritising sustainable practices in all of its facilities. This latest development marks an important step for BENEO as it aims for carbon neutrality by 2050.

As part of the recent investment, a new gas turbine and heat recovery boiler was installed at the Oreye facility. As well as providing for BENEO’s own electricity production needs, the new system also enables the company to export an additional five megawatts to the public electric grid network each year.

Project planning for the system began in 2017.

As well as the installation of new equipment, significant civil works had to be undertaken, including the dismantling of old sections of the building and the erection of a new steel structure in the heart of the factory, to house the system. The gas turbine went into pilot operation in August 2019 and is now running at full capacity.

Philippe Dumont, Operations Managing Director at BENEO’s Oreye facility, comments: “Sustainable development is a cornerstone of our business strategy and BENEO is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The production plant in Oreye continues to contribute to this target with a combination of solutions, including the increased use of renewable energy in future. The integration of the new gas turbine system into our existing steam and electricity production is an important part of

the energy efficiency program that we began 10 years ago. Our aim was to cut specific carbon emissions on site and to date we have achieved a total reduction of 40%, thanks to significant fuel efficiencies and yield gains.”

BENEO has been producing prebiotic natural chicory root fibres at Oreye since 1992, by using a gentle hot water extraction method. The resulting dietary fibres inulin and oligofructose can be used in bakery, cereals, dairy, confectionery and baby food products. The plant has been supported by Oreye’s local agriculture for more than 130 years. Today 700 farmers in the region have a chicory contract with BENEO, and the Oreye facility currently employs 300 people.

BENEO’s sustainability initiative at Oreye comes as part of an overall 61 million Euro investment in Belgium in the past 12 months. The company also recently announced a 50 million Euro investment in BENEO’s rice starch facility in Wijgmaal.

Almost a third of all food produced in the world is never consumed, and 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year.

This covers 45 percent of all fruits and vegetables and 20 percent of meat. Just a quarter of what we mention as the wasted food equals to the need for feeding the world’s 795 million hungry people.

Therefore, food waste appears like a billion-dollar global problem.

With the awareness of the food waste problem, TOMRA Food works closely with farmers, processors and retailers to reduce waste. We strive to be a spokesperson for food waste, address the problem, and offer solutions to improve the supply chain. Sensor-based sorting machines can prevent them from going to waste by selecting second-quality products with visual defects but can be consumed healthily with high success. By combining the right technologies and the product expertise of its local teams, TOMRA develops customized solutions for each food product, working to minimize waste and product loss due to the collection of products from the field and the processing in production facilities.

For example, considering that one person consumes 25 kg of potatoes per year, a yield increase of up to one percent can provide potatoes to more than eight million people without the need for additional resources or additional land. Considering the healthy grains that escape into bad products during sorting, it is a financial loss for businesses and a severe global problem in terms of food waste. With its solutions, TOMRA has managed to reduce this waste, which is called “false reject,” to the lowest levels in products such as hazelnuts (<1%), raisins (<5%), and sunflower seeds (<1%) which are endemic to our country.

Considering the benefit of TOMRA solutions and 4% of waste in hazelnut processing,

we can say that it is equal to 10,000 tons of product per year depending on the yield.

A loss of about 60M dollars is prevented.

As a result, TOMRA Food continues to develop sustainable solutions with its customers and many other companies.

The food industry is a vast industry that grows and becomes more and more sophisticated, even in times of crisis.

Since food safety and food waste are among the most critical issues in the industry, the use of technology in the sector increases day by day. Therefore, although the year 2020 has been challenging for all industries, the food sector shows a growth trend despite the pandemic period, differentiating dynamics, and all the difficulties in the food sector.

During the coronavirus epidemic, food demand and production, especially products with long shelf life such as dried fruits, nuts, sunflower seeds, pulses, frozen food, have increased in direct proportion to the world. While there is an increase in the export of agricultural products in Turkey, we, TOMRA Food, continue to support food processors with our sorting machines and technologies.

In 2021, the food sector will continue to change depending on future developments and demands. The decrease in the workforce due to the pandemic reminded us of the importance of mechanization and automation in different areas, both during the collection of products from the field and food production facilities. In future periods, we can say that the latest technology will be used even more in food production.

Seluz obtained Turkey’s leading exporter award in fragrance sector again also this year and carried its success in fragrances to food flavors. Seluz, which made an entry into the food flavor industry that has an annual import input of over 200 million dollars and a total market volume of over 320 million dollars in Turkey, started to produce value-added products for a wide range of food products in its new flavor headquarters that has been built with an additional investment of 20 million dollars over 15,000 m2 just near its fragrance campus located in Istanbul.

“Turkish food producers will compete with world’s leading brands” Seluz debuting the flavor sector with the mission of supporting national production and supply in the Turkish flavor industry carries its successful strategy that it applied in fragrance sector into flavor sector in order to increase the competitiveness of Turkish producers against foreign brands.

Murat Öztürk, Founder and CEO of Seluz, summarizes the issue as follows: “Flavor industry’s market volume is 14 - 15 billion dollars across the world. In Turkey, we foresee a market volume of 320 million dollars. An important part of this amount, which is about 200 million dollars, is unfortunately met through imports. We have invested in flavor sector, because there are too few flavor producers in Turkey, and we know that automation is not well established even in the largest of the manufacturing companies.

On the other hand, we manufacture valueadded products. We have already achieved this in our fragrance business.

Therefore, search for a new field with valueadded products urged us to invest also in the flavor industry in which we can utilize our R&D power. Our first consideration was the safety of our people, and we had to address this in a rapidly changing situation. Our care also extended beyond our own employees, to outsourced services, such as our security teams and workers from trucking companies who deliver for us.

So the cocoa is indeed still flowing and we are still purchasing.”

5am, so we had to address the big question - how do we keep sites and factories running as normal? The first step was to reconstitute the shifts to work around the curfew. So our shift and factory colleagues worked together to organize a totally different shift structure, two shifts of twelve hours, without any impact on the output of the factory.

You mention the immediate challenges, were there examples of creative issue management measures you put into place?

In terms of social distancing, it is relatively easy to do this on-site, but public transport in Africa, typically buses, are exceptionally packed. So you can imagine that it is more of a complex problem to maintain social distancing. Therefore we decided to rent buses to specifically pick up our people to take them to and from their homes to sites in a safe way.

In Ghana, cities such as Accra, Tema and Kumasi were locked down, and we had the situation where key workers, such as our QA colleagues, could not travel from their homes in Accra to Tema. To address this, we took the decision to rent an entire guest house, near our factory in Tema to allow our people stay there safely. Some of our colleagues have been living there for over 3 weeks now.

What is the situation with cocoa sourcing and the delivery of cocoa - is it ‘business as usual’?

In terms of cocoa farming, cocoa has not stopped growing, despite COVID-19. So the cocoa is indeed still flowing and we are still purchasing. Our common aim, however, is to support farmer livelihoods and communities, and second, continuing our sourcing business as usual, without contaminating up-country operations.

Kakao yetiştiriciliği açısından, COVID-19’a rağmen kakao büyümeyi durdurmadı.

Yani kakao gerçekten hala akıyor ve biz hala satın alıyoruz. Ancak ortak amacımız, çiftçi geçim kaynaklarını ve topluluklarını desteklemek ve ikincisi, ülke operasyonlarını kirletmeden tedarik faaliyetlerimize her zamanki gibi devam etmektir.

Genel olarak, kakao yetiştiren topluluklardan daha az trafik geçiyor. Daha az trafik, daha az nakit enjekte edildiği, restoranlar ve dükkanların açık olmadığı anlamına gelir. Bu sebeple yerdeki ekiplerimiz Fildişi Sahili, Gana, Kamerun, Nijerya ve Tanzanya’daki çiftçi topluluklarını desteklemek için çok çalışıyorlar. Mesela, tarım topluluklarına ek gelir sağlayan topluluklardan yerel olarak sabun alıyoruz, el yıkama ekipmanları, koruyucu maskeler, dezenfektan kitleri bağışladık ve COVID-19 önleyici tedbirlerin duyarlılık faaliyetleri ve hijen faaliyetleri konusunda müşterilerimizle ve yerel hükümetle ortak olduk.

Ayrıca muhtaç ailelere gıda paketleri dağıttık ve buna içinde çalıştığımız ve içinde yaşadığımız topluluklardaki aileler de dahil. Gana’da, mesela fabrikamızın yakınında yaşayan yaklaşık 500 aileyi desteklemek için gıda paketleri bağışladık.

In general, there is less traffic passing through cocoa growing communities. Less traffic means there is less cash being injected, restaurants and shops are not open. So our teams on the ground have been working very hard to support farmer communities in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and Tanzania. For example, we have been buying locally made soap from communities which has provided additional income to farming communities, we have donated hand washing equipment, protective masks, sanitizer kits and partnered with our customers and local government on sensitization activities of COVID-19 preventive

measures and hygiene activities.

We have also distributed food parcels to needy families, and this includes families in the communities in which we work and live in. In Ghana, for example, we donated food parcels to support around 500 families living near our factory.

Has there been any silver linings during COVID-19?

What I felt during this period was the entire Region Africa team coming closer together. Our people are really passionate about supporting the operations during COVID-19, of adapting to how they work, adjusting to different shift patterns or staying in alternative accommodation close to our sites.

The creativity and ingenuity of our people has also shone at this time.

The additional washing facilities at our sites, these were hand made. I also saw how the communications evolved during this time. As the situation unfolded, communication was critical to informing our people and for maintaining business continuity. Our issue teams who met every day, discovered that actually the best way to communicate was not via email or notice boards in our sites, but by creating team Google Hangout groups or via text messaging to keep everyone up to date on a timely basis.

We also had a visit from one of the medical officers who is a member of the advisory team working with the Ghanaian government on COVID-19 situation. She reviewed the interventions that we had put in place to support our people and the feedback that we received was that they were so impressed with what we had done - that we could transport our people, provide accommodation to our people, to keep them safe. This is something we can be very proud of.

Durum ilerledikçe iletişim, çalışanlarımızı bilgilendirmek ve iş sürekliliğini sağlamak için kritikti. Her gün bir araya gelen sorun ekiplerimiz, iletişim kurmanın en iyi yolunun sitelerimizdeki e-posta veya duyuru panoları yoluyla değil, ekip Google Hangout grupları oluşturarak veya herkesi zamanında güncel tutmak için kısa mesaj yoluyla olduğunu keşfetti.

Ayrıca Ganalı hükümeti ile COVID-19 durumu konusunda çalışan danışma ekibinin bir üyesi olan sağlık görevlilerinden birini ziyaret ettik. As part of the buyer committee event that we hold with the support of İHBİR, foreign buyers who are unable to attend our exhibition will meet our exhibitors who want to deliver our local delicacies to all over the world, through our Hyve Connect application. Noting that the effects of the transformation process on supply chains will increase and that food safety will gain importance in agricultural policies, Ülgen reminded that the actions that can be taken in Turkey in this regard will be discussed in detail at the events to be organized as part of the exhibition.

He also underlined that they brought exhibitors and foreign buyers together at warm-up tours until the exhibition and held meetings with them through the Hyve Connect application. Ülgen said, “At the virtual trade meetings we held on August 11 and 12, we brought together 25 foreign buyers from 19 different countries and more than 100 exhibitors.

A total of 782 business connections were established in these virtual meetings in 2 days. Thanks to this infrastructure that we provided before the exhibition, our exhibitors developed their business networks,

connected with the right customers, and took advantage of export opportunities.

The goal is to receive certificates for these locations soon.

Anadolu Etap General Manager Bahadır Açık noted that their company had begun taking measures in all their locations against COVID-19 as of January even before the very first case was reported in Turkey and has been stepping them up since. Açık said, “We became the first company to receive this certificate in our sector meeting all the requirements of TSE’s guidelines for the pandemic that steer companies in their actions against COVID-19. We have a great responsibility as a major player in the fruit industry. We safely continue to produce by taking measures at the highest level in order to meet the public need for healthy food since the very outset of the pandemic. We are implementing our precautions to the utmost degree in all phases of our supply chain operations with an eye for the health and well-being of our employees and the public in particular as guided by the Ministry of Health and the agencies concerned.

Thanks to these precautions, our farms continue to harvest, our factories keep processing and our packing houses keep packaging in a healthy and safe way.”

Complex products such as multi-layer desserts or swirled vanilla and chocolate puddings are real eye-catchers in chilled cabinets – and consumers love buying them. To keep things that way, food manufacturers need to constantly adapt and renew their product portfolios. This results

not only in product diversity but also in smaller batches. Dosing systems therefore have to meet very specific requirements while at the same time minimizing machine downtimes during changeovers.

Added to this are increasing hygiene requirements for allergen-free products. These require more intensive cleaning processes when changing products to completely remove even the slightest residue of the predecessor product. In the future, current technological developments such as biomonitoring will help to reduce cleaning times. They determine the degree of soiling of the machine and filler within the production line and initiate cleaning independently.

Versatile, future-proof dosing systems Given today’s extensive requirements and tomorrow’s potential developments, it can be difficult to make the right choice for a dosing system. With a portfolio of well over 50 dosing systems, Bosch Packaging Technology – since January 2020 Syntegon Technology – has been able to precisely meet the most unusual requirements. However, the large number of dosing systems makes the choice very complex for manu-

Esnek olarak seçilebilen beş dozlama sistemi içinde döner sürgü, konik nozül, düz vana ve kesici sürgünün iki türü bulunmaktadır. Her dozlama sistemi, 10 ila 1000 mililitrelik dört farklı hacim aralığı ve daha pek çok özellik ile sunulmaktadır. facturers. With its new modular dosing platform, Syntegon is now consolidating this diversity and making it easier for customers to find their way around, even when they have specific requirements.

With five flexibly selectable dosing systems, the new dosing platform covers around 90 percent of all food products that are filled into containers or bottles.

Depending on the dosing system used, the platform is suitable for a wide viscosity range from 1 to 25,000 millipascal seconds (mPas), covering everything from liquid and viscous products to high-viscosity foods with chunks up to 25 millimeters in diameter.

The five flexibly selectable dosing systems include rotary slide, cone nozzle, flat valve and two versions of the cutting slide. Each dosing system is available in four different volume ranges from 50 to 600 milliliters and more. The rotary slide fills large volumes of liquid and viscous products in a range from 500 to 2,500 mPas at high speed, with and without particles. The cone nozzle and flat valve, each adapted to the product to be filled, are suitable for liquids with fruit flesh and fibrous materials between 1 and 1,500 mPas, whereby the cone nozzle doses evenly and virtually without foaming. The cutting slide covers

a particularly wide range from 1 to 25,000 mPas and can be used for everything from milk to ready meals. It is available in two versions which are characterized by different feeding systems.

High hygiene standards with short changeover times With its different dosing systems, the dosing platform can be variably integrated into all Syntegon filling machines for cups and bottles, including thermoforming machines. It can also be upgraded in hygienic versions from clean and ultra-clean to aseptic. Several dosing systems can be flexibly combined to fill multilayer products, such as puddings with cream toppings, or to create patterns such as a yogurt with dots or swirls of syrup. Changing the dosing nozzles is quick and easy: The dosing plate is height-adjustable by 40 centimeters which improves accessibility for changing of dosing nozzles. The dosing systems can also be retrofitted to different hygiene levels, for example from ultra-clean to aseptic, and thus offer food manufacturers the greatest possible flexibility.

Seal-less alternatives are optionally available for some dosing systems. This guarantees the highest dosing accuracy because there are no seals that could influence the dosing result as a consequence of wear. At the same time, changeover times can be reduced to a minimum as there is no need to replace seals when changing products. The seal-less design also requires just one general maintenance cycle per year.

The future of dosing technology has already begun The system of the future even goes one step further: self-optimizing biomonitoring not only determines the frequency and duration of the cleaning itself, but also becomes part of the overall product and factory planning process.

Within this context, the system learns the optimum product sequence and makes its own decisions – a step into the future that the new, modular dosing platform will be able to take.

Compac, part of the TOMRA Food family, and its partners ICOEL and Sardas were confronted with unique challenges, as the COVID-19 pandemic hit just as they were preparing to ship and install three turnkey cherry grading and packing lines in Turkey and a fourth one in Uzbekistan. They overcame the unprecedented situation with countries under lockdown, travel restrictions and disruptions to goods transport logistics to complete the four projects right on schedule. This achievement required all the ingenuity of the teams involved

in the installation, who were able to leverage Compac’s global supply chain and extreme operational flexibility. The four lines, equipped with Compac’s InVision2 electronic grading platform, were up and running for the beginning of the cherry season and they performed to the respective customers’ satisfaction.

With their new Compac grading and packing lines, Perla Fruit, Karaali, Unifrutti in Turkey and Uz-Segang in Uzbekistan closed the season with resounding success, receiving positive feedback from their customers.

In a cherry season that was like no other before, Compac, its distributor ICOEL and Turkish agent Sardas demonstrated how even the most difficult hurdles can be overcome with good teamwork and outof-the-box thinking. The major projects they completed in Turkey and Uzbekistan, installing four turnkey grading and packing lines totaling 42 InVision2 lanes during the pandemic, are excellent examples of their resourcefulness and determination to help their customers succeed.

Careful planning and a global footprint for on-time completion “The COVID-19 pandemic provided an unexpected level of challenge, with significant restrictions on the movement of people and materials,” comments Roberto Ricci, Compac Regional Director EMEA. “In spite of the situation, we delivered in full and on time! How did we do it? First, through careful planning of the logistics with our partner ICOEL, and we leveraged our global supply chain and logistics capabilities.”

All the Compac InVision2 equipment for the four projects was produced at Compac’s facility in New Zealand and at TOMRA Food’s manufacturing center in Slovakia. The company’s global manufacturing footprint, which also includes a plant in China, gives it the scale and flexibility to deliver projects around the world efficiently – even in the complex situation created by the pandemic. All the equipment for the four projects was delivered to each site in time to begin installation and be ready for the beginning of the cherry season.

High quality grading for demanding markets Perla Fruit, Karaali and Unifrutti in Turkey, and Uz-Segang in Uzbekistan are all big exporters that serve some of the most demanding markets when it comes to the quality of cherries, such as China.

Turkey, the largest cherry producer with just over 25% share of the global market, has made the strategic choice to develop its export market and focus on sweet cherry varieties, which are more in demand.

Between 2005 and 2016 alone, its production of sweet cherries increased from 6 mil-

lion to 21.5 million. Perla Fruit was founded in 2019 by a family of pioneers who put the Turkish cherry industry on the map, closed successfully its first season exporting more than 4,000 tonnes to markets in Europe, the Far East and the Middle East. Karaali, a family business established in 1992, has an annual export capacity of around 3,000 tonnes, the majority of which goes to the Russian market. Unifrutti, a wellknown Italian global fruit exporter, established its base in Turkey in 1991 and started operation of its new sorting and packing plant this cherry season processing 3,000 tonnes for the European market.

Uzbekistan is a fast-developing market, which has already risen to be the 5th largest cherry producer in the world.

The government is investing heavily and devoting significant efforts to developing its exports of fruit and vegetables. It has recently signed a protocol with China for the supply of cherries to the market and has undertaken negotiations with South Korea to facilitate exports. Its proximity to China, the world’s biggest cherry import market, is attracting the interest of Turkish cherry export companies who see it as a platform to reach a significant pool of new customers. Uz-Segang grows fruits, vegetables and legumes in the very fertile soil of the Fergana valley. It exports mainly to the Chinese market, benefiting from being located just a 3.5-day truck drive away – and South Korea.

The four companies chose Compac for their grading and packing plants because of the high-quality product they would be able to guarantee their customers with its technology. Compac carefully analyzed their respective requirements and developed tailored solutions for each, all of them featuring its InVision2 platform. The InVision2 platform achieves extremely accurate and consistent grading for size, shape, color and blemishes through a combination of powerful imaging using color and infrared technologies, controlled lighting and cherry rotation. With its partners ICOEL and Sardas, it installed a 16-lane system at Perla Fruit, 10 lanes at Karaali and at Unifrutti, and 6 lanes at Uz-Segang.

Türkiye, küresel piyasanın kiraz ihtiyacının %25ini karşılayan bir ülke olarak ihracat kapasitesini stratejik bir kararla genişleterek daha çok talep gören sofralık tatlı kiraz çeşitlerinin tedarikine yöneliyor. Buna dayalı olarak 2005-2016 yılları arasında sofralık tatlı kiraz üretimi 6 milyondan 21.5 milyona yükselmiştir. 2019 yılında faaliyete başlayan Perla Fruit, ilk sezonunu Avrupa, Uzak Doğu ve Ortadoğu’ya 4,000 tonun üzerinde kiraz ihraç ederek tamamladı.

1992 yılında kurulan Karaali, öncelikli pazarı Rusya olmak üzere 3,000 ton ihracat kapasitesi ile sezonu bitirdi. Türkiye operasyonuna 1991 senesinde başlayan dünyaca tanınan İtalya merkezli global yaş meyve sebze ihracatçısı olan Unifrutti ise yeni sınıflandırma ve paketleme ünitesi ile Türkiye’den Avrupa marketlerine 3,000 ton kiraz ihracatını gerçekleştirdi. Özbekistan ise hızlı gelişmekte olan bir pazar olmasının yanı sıra global ölçekte 5. büyük kiraz üreticisi ülke olma konumunda bulunuyor. Özellikle devletin teşvik ve yaş meyve sebze ihracatını kalkındırmaya yönelik girişimleri Özbekistan’ın sektörde gelişmesine çok önemli katkılar sağlıyor.

Meyve, sebze ve bakliyat üretimini verimli Fergana vadisinde gerçekleştiren Uz-Segang, kara nakliyesi ile 3.5 gün uzaklıkta olan Çin ve de Güney Kore ile çalışıyor Bu dört firma da üstün teknolojisi sayesinde yüksek kalitede ürün elde etme garantisi sunduğu için sınıflandırma ve paketleme ünitesi ihtiyaçlarında Compac’ı tercih ediyor. Bu süreçte müşterilerinin beklentilerini çok iyi analiz eden Compac, Invision2 görüntüleme sistemleri için her bir müşterinin ihtiyaçlarına göre özel çözümler geliştirdi.

Remote installation with round-theclock virtual support The travel restrictions and countries in lockdown due to Covid-19 presented a challenge not only for shipping the equipment, but also for the Compac team to reach the four locations. Roberto Ricci explains: “We leveraged our remote service capabilities with resources located to cover all continents and time zones. These remote resources allowed us to provide support literally around the clock, 24/7, to the three separate technical teams that were on the ground working to install and commission the four lines.”

“Yes, it was 24/7, because of the time zones” adds Mustafa Sakarya, Senior Director of Sardas, Compac agent in Turkey, who conducted all four installations. Compac managed the four projects from its base in New Zealand, supported by its Assistance teams based in the USA, and its importer ICOEL headquartered in Italy. “It was a difficult year, but we had so many gains.

We understood that we can manage the lack of persons on site with a good remote support. We proved that we can complete installations entirely remotely.”

Success also required a close partnership with the customers, who provided fast broadband connectivity in the packhouses. “We also asked them to set up cameras throughout the packhouse so we could follow them round the clock and see the progress on the mechanical and electronic installation,” says Mustafa Sakarya.

“We also used a bit of creativity to overcome the logistic limitations of commercial flights into Uzbekistan,” adds Roberto Ricci. “With the help of Uzbek Ambassador in Rome, Uz-Segang obtained permission to bring ICOEL technicians into the country and chartered a private

flight for them – definitely the most exclusive mode of transport that the technical team has ever experienced! The customer organized accommodation and made eating arrangements at the packhouse for the six ICOEL staff, who never left the site in the almost 4 weeks of the project to respect the lockdown and distancing rules.”

The determination of the customer to run this year’s cherry season on the new line was matched by that of Compac and its partners, who pulled out all the stops to deliver the result he wanted. Their efforts were rewarded when the facility was honored with the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on June 5th.

A successful cherry season for all All 4 lines were commissioned on time and were ready to start in mid-May, when the season usually begins. This year, however, the season was a little late and the cherries started to arrive from the field at Perla Fruit and Uz-Segang on the week of May 25th, and at Karaali and Unifrutti a week later.

“The cherry season started, and the customers needed to run their machines, we were working day and night to complete the installation, but everyone had their lines running on time,” says Mustafa Sakarya.

All four companies closed the season with success and report superior results compared to other systems with respect to the quality of the pack, and the efficiency of the sort process. “They have received great feedback about the superior quality of their pack compared to other suppliers, coming both from their distributors and retailers as well as the quality inspectors who inspect the fruit at the packhouse before it enters the distribution chain,” concludes Roberto Ricci.

Adeta uzaktan destekle kurulum yapabilme yetimizi ispatlamış olduk” şeklinde ifade etti. “Ülkeler arası sevkiyat ve lojistik kısıtlamaların ve Özbekistan’a tarifeli seferlerin yasaklanmasının üstesinden gelebilmek için bir takım maliyetli ancak pratik çözümler üretmek durumunda kaldık” diyen Roberto Ricci; “Roma Özbekistan büyükelçisinin katkılarıyla, UZ-Segang tarafından özel izinle ICOEL teknik ekipleri, özel uçak ile Özbekistan’a seyahat etti ve bu muhtemelen teknik ekibin tecrübe ettiği en özel transferlerden birisiydi. Müşterimizin, 4 haftalık süreçte teknik ekibimizin tesis içerisinde konaklama ve yemek ihtiyaçlarını karşılayarak gerekli önlemleri ve soysal mesafe kurallarını titizlikle uygulaması bizim için çok önemliydi,” dedi.

2020 kiraz sezonunda operasyona başlamak konusunda müşterilerinin kararlılığı, Compac ve çözüm ortaklarınınki ile birleştiğinde bütün zorluklar başarıyla aşıldı ve istenilen sonuca ulaşıldı. Bütün bu çaba, Özbekistan Cumhuriyeti Devlet Başkanı Sayın Shavkat Mirziyoyev’in Uz-Segang paketleme tesisini ziyareti ile mükâfatlandırıldı.
