Over 200,000 come to see fall colors peaking and celebrate Dahlonega’s 1828 discovery of gold. More than 300 art and craft exhibitors and food vendors gather around the Public Square and Historic District in support of this annual event. The event area is contained within designated locations in the park in a trafficfree area for children to run, play and enjoy the festivities. Following the event, an outdoor movie will be available for viewing, presented by Northside Hospital and Southern Outdoor Cinema. Concessions will be available for purchase at the event. Oct. 21-23, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Moonshine Festival explores Dawson County’s history during the Prohibition era and the Great Depression of the 1930s when liquor was illegal and when running moonshine through the foothills of the Northeast Georgia Mountains was a way of life. Visit an old moonshine still, the new legal moonshine distillery and listen to stories from both the “Trippers” and “Revenuers.” Crafts, food, and entertainment begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday on the square in Dawsonville. Parade begins at 9 a.m. There will be a car show lining the streets, including vintage race cars and their drivers. All proceeds go to help needy children in Dawson County. Admission is free.
