Arriving in 1994, Scientific Games was one of the first technology companies in Forsyth County. Today, Scientific Games’ Global Lottery Center of Excellence located on 22 acres just off Ga. 400, supplies the worldwide lottery industry with instant, draw and internet-based games, programs and systems technology. In fact, the company’s MONOPOLY™ Millionaires’ Club game was recently selected by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) as the new lottery national game in the U.S., which will launch in fall 2014 with plans for a national television game show to follow next year. Scientific Games recently hosted a ribbon-cutting at its 355,000-square-foot Forsyth County facility with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and Debbie Alford, President and CEO of the Georgia Lottery Corporation, for Alpha P-7, the company’s newest, most advanced instant game manufacturing technology. The new technology increases the company’s total production capacity to more than 46 billion instant lottery games a year from five instant game manufacturing facilities around the globe. Innovation has always been a hallmark of Scientific Games. The company developed many of its products

and services as customer solutions, which ended up advancing the entire lottery and gaming industry. Scientific Games’ success speaks for itself: the company is a provider to eight of the world’s Top 10 lotteries for total sales – and provides products or services to nearly every U.S. lottery. Scientific Games has supplied the Georgia Lottery Corporation with instant games since the Lottery’s inception in 1993. Following a record-breaking $2.6 billion in instant game sales in fiscal year 2013, the Georgia Lottery is now ranked No. 2 in the world for instant game per capita sales. To date, the Georgia Lottery has raised over $15.3 billion for the HOPE Scholarship and the Georgia Pre-K Program. The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce gave Scientific Games the 2013 Heritage Award, which is given to a business that has been located in Forsyth County for 20 or more years. The company is active in the community and engages in charitable outreach through its SG Cares organization. In 2013, the company added to its portfolio of gaming machines and content with the acquisition of WMS Industries Inc., expanding its market reach beyond serving lottery jurisdictions to serving casinos with groundbreaking gaming machines, content and related services. Local Legislators Receive Top Marks

orsyth legislators have garnered high rankings on the Georgia C h a m b e r o f C o m m e r c e ’s 2 0 1 4 Legislative Scorecard. Each year the Georgia Chamber assigns grades to elected officials on their commitment to growth and the wellbeing of businesses within the state. Legislative issues important to Georgia’s economy were tracked and legislators were graded on how they voted for these key issues. Senator Jack Murphy (District 27) and Senator Steve Gooch (District 51) both received perfect A+ scores. Congressmen that received perfect scores include Mark Hamilton (District 24), Mike Dudgeon (District 25), Kevin Tanner (District 9) and Geoff Duncan (District 9). One of the bills supported by the chamber was House Bill 714, authored by local District 24 Representative Mark Hamilton. The bill amended a loophole in unemployment law that was being abused by a small group of employers and employees. Contractors had been using unemployment funds to lower the cost of paying seasonal workers, who should not have qualified for the funds. HB 714 puts an end to this practice and will save businesses

$8-10 million each year. The chamber also supported HB 697, a bill that allows technical college students to be eligible recipients of tuition through the Hope Grant program. Senate Bill 213, another supported bill, amends the Flint River Drought Protection Act to assist the lower river basin’s agricultural economy during severe drought. High scores bode well for Cumming and Forsyth County. tate Representative Mark Hamilton (District 24) has been selected by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce as the House recipient of the Legislator of the Year Award. The G e o rg i a C h a m b e r p r e s e n t s t h i s prestigious honor to legislators who take their responsibility seriously to improve Georgia’s business community. “I am humbled and honored to receive such an esteemed award from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce,” said Rep. Hamilton. “As a state legislator, one of my top priorities is bringing jobs to the state of Georgia as this is something that affects us all and will shape the economic future for our children and grandchildren. I’m proud that the Georgia Chamber recognizes my efforts, and I look forward to working with them in the future as we continue to create business-friendly policies in our state.”

Over the past year, Rep. Hamilton has authored and supported a number of initiatives that bring jobs and economic growth to the state. He authored House Bills 714, 715, and 1048, and co-authored House Bills 399, 892, 902, 863, 1037, 838, and 176, all of which have been signed into law by Governor Deal. Rep. Hamilton received an A+ rating, the highest possible, on the Georgia Chamber’s legislative scorecard this term. His high score is due to his support of bills that are in the interests of the Georgia business community. The award represents another milestone of Cumming and Forsyth County’s success, thanks to the efforts of Rep. Hamilton and other leaders dedicated to bettering their community. They must learn your business processes, the ins and outs of office procedure, where the extra pens are kept, etc. However; how much time do you spend training your frontline staff members to truly be the frontline of your business? Many times these employees are the first representation your business has to a potential new client. The first step to feeling confident in your frontline staff is to take a good look at your methods and procedures with those employees, from hiring to training and terminating. CBS Comes to Cumming F

rom New York to Reno to Cumming, The Triple Crown/USA National Softball Tournament on CBS is a major event in the amateur sports arena and for our community. This year’s tournament will run from July 14-17, 2014 in various parks in Forsyth County, Alpharetta and Gainesville, Georgia. This is the first softball tournament of such high caliber that the area has hosted, with teams participating from across the United States. The tournament features 184 participating teams from 28 states. The winning team will be presented with a trophy similar to the Stanley Cup. The team’s name is engraved on the trophy which is placed at Triple Crown Headquarters in Colorado until the next national tournament is played and a new winner claims the trophy. The team selection process is based on a ranking system that Triple Crown built which adheres to U.S. Club Rankings and AT-LARGE systems. The top teams in the country are selected for the tournament. Krista Judge, director of Triple Crown/USA Nationals on CBS, believes this is the most competitive national tournament in fastpitch softball. When asked why Triple Crown chose the Forsyth county area, Judge responded, “We felt that Cumming, Alpharetta and Gainesville had communities that would welcome this tournament with open arms. They have top-notch facilities and hotels to host this tournament. We are excited about the future of Triple Crown in the Southeast region.” The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department has successfully worked with Triple Crown regional tournaments for many years. Each

regional tournament has marked a successful partnership for both organizations. In addition, the Atlanta Legacy has a very strong regional showcase and gave its blessing to co-market the events and work together with the Parks and Rec Department. The relationships that Triple Crown has established in this community have been meaningful and will be a great foundation on which to build the future of Triple Crown in Georgia. They have been very happy with the support from all members of the community, parks and hotels. One of these supporters is Children’s Health Care of Atlanta-Forsyth, who will host the tournament coaches’ dinner on Monday, July 14, 2014. The tournament anticipates at least 1,000 hotel rooms per night for Cumming/Forsyth, Alpharetta, and Gainesville areas, creating huge economic impact for the communities. This tournament is a great family activity, so make plans to come out to Fowler Park on Thursday, July 17 at 4:30pm and 7pm for three games that will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
