PAUL THINKING THOUGHTS Hey Dudes and Dudettes, I hope my words find you well. I would like to begin this missive by expressing my deepest appreciation to the anonymous donor who generously provided us with some funds from so we can print a few copies of this issue of The Forwardian Gazette. So, if you’re reading a printed version of our magazine, please send a good thought out to this individual. If you’re reading this Magazine on line, please send a good thought out to this individual. In any case, please consider going to our website to make a donation toward the printing of the April 2018 issue of The Forwardian Gazette. It would be much appreciated. So, anyways, it’s been a great February with tons of art related stuff to do. There were even a few days where spirits of the Spring and Summer seasons came to visit the Northeast PA that made it all the nicer to get out and explore what was happening. This is further enhanced by the coming of Daylight Savings time which will provide us with more light to energize our days and the first calendar day of Spring which will bring even more enjoyments as we contemplate all the wonderful things we’ll be doing and experiencing in the coming months. I can’t wait to get out and about. We began accepting submissions for our sister publication of Forwardian which is a Literary and Arts Magazine that comes out Bi Annually. We’ll be taking submissions to consider including in the next is sue due out in July 2018 until May 15th. I look forward to experiencing your work and enhancing our magazine with it included in the pages. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. And, there is our on line Art Competition for the month of March. We’ll be accepting entries until the 14 th and voting will take place from the 15th to the 20th. I hope to see lots of you submitting your art and/or photography and I wish you the best of luck during the voting process. Again, the winner will have a place in the next issue of Forwardian’s Galleria section. Smiles. We’ll soon be going to The Pocono Center for the Arts www.poconocenterforthearts.org community meetings that are currently being planned. I understand everything is still a blank canvas waiting to be touched by the imagination of the artistic community. It is my deepest hope that The Forwardian Arts Society can enhance the endeavor with a few strokes and fully be a part of this is a new adventure. I’ll be sure to let you know through Facebook so you’ll have an opportunity to become involved in this gargantuan project. Well, that’s all from me for now. How are you? Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this publication, The Forwardian Arts Society, or anything at all. I promise to tell you everything. I would make a terrible spy. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I'll keep a good thought for you until then. Going Forwardian with you Paul Adam Smeltz The Forwardian Arts Society

Baba Keino and the Drums at the BookHouse Written by Paul Adam Smeltz In Celebration of African-American (aka Black) History Month, The Eastern Monroe Public Library in Stroudsburg, PA presented Baba Keino and the African American Ancestral Drumming Association on Friday February 2nd as part of their BookHouse Concert Series. A sizable number of music and dance lovers of the tribal cultural of Africa filled the room with their conversations as they awaited the beginning of the performance. This anticipation was broken as the series host, Linnae Cintron, stood before the gathering to welcome them and to introduce the evening’s eagerly awaited performers. Her words were followed by the appearance of Baba Keino who is the founder and director of the African American Ancestral Drumming Association which is a group of men and women who come together to preserve African Folklore as they go into communities using the drum to heal, teach, and perpetuate the African and African-American traditions. Mr. Keino began the evening with some introductory remarks about the Association and the history of the drumming experience. He then introduced members of the Association that included a drummer, a flutist, and a dancer. Together, an entertaining and educational night ensued with communal drumming, dancing, and joyous laughter. It was a great and very enjoyable evening at the Library. The Eastern Monroe Public Library (aka The Hughes Library) BookHouse Series takes place in the Edinger Community Room which is located on N. 9th Street (aka route 611) in Stroudsburg, PA. The Hughes Library is the main branch of the Monroe County, PA library system which includes their Pocono Township Branch in Tannersville, PA and their Smithfield’s Branch in Marshalls Creek, PA. The library offers access to numerous books, DVDs, Audio Recordings, and cultural programs free to the public. The library’s BookHouse series is part of its cultural programming designed to provide a venue for literary and musical events which are outside of the commercial and literary mainstream. The next program in The Eastern Monroe Public Library 2018 BookHouse Series will feature Marc Berger on Friday April 13th beginning at 7:30pm with the doors opening at 7pm. Admission to the event is free, but donations would be gratefully accepted. Refreshments will also be available for a small charge. Please Contact Linnae Cintron at 570-421-0800 extension 312 or explore The Eastern Monroe Public Library Website at www.monroepl.org to learn more information about the library, their BookHouse Series, and all the institution has to offer the community.

WHO THE FORWARDIAN ARE WE?
Festivals
“We share the belief that the arts can inspire our creative dreams to become magnificent worlds of our deepest experiences reminding us who we really are. Therefore, our fellowship shares a desire to support, encourage, and explore the artistic experiences of creative individuals and groups as they go forward toward their dreams.” Mission Statement
The Forwardian Film Festival presents the original cinematic endeavors. The festival includes an Art Show and an Awards Ceremony. The 2016 Forwardian Film Festival received The Monroe County Image Award.
As our mission statement suggests, The Forwardian Arts Society is a fellowship for people who love the arts. We define ourselves as a fellowship as compared to an organization because organization suggests some form of hierarchy exists where some members would have the right (or assume to have the right) to tell other member what to do. On the other hand, a fellowship suggests every member is equal to one another and each member’s conduct in The Forwardian Arts Society is only governed by their love for the arts. We invite everyone who love the arts to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society. It’s free with the only requirements be included is to have a love for the arts and a desire to be a part of The Forwardian Arts Society. The Forwardian Arts Society Friend and Facilitator, Paul (aka The Forwardian Dude), travels all around experiencing a multitude of adventures throughout the artistic community. You can see him almost anywhere there's an artists' reception being held, a play being presented, or a concert being performed with his camera and note pad. He posts his articles and reviews along with the photographs he takes on his Social Networks. He says, "The reason I do this is twofold. One is to help promote the artist and the venue through these sites and second to help people who can't attend these events for whatever reason to still partake of them."
We would like to present more art related festivals to the community. These include The Forwardian Folk Festival to present folk music and folk art, The For-word-ian Festival to present the work of writers and poets, The Forwardian Fringe offering a creative free for all, and The Forwardian Theater Festival presenting well known and original plays. Please feel free to contact us through our Website at www.forwardianarts.org for more information. SUPPORT THE FORWARDIAN GAZETTE
